Alice Marie Walters, 85, Hays, died Sunday, April 24, 2022, at HaysMed.

She was born February 26, 1937, in 
Munjor, the daughter of Joseph A. and Agnes (Rohr) Gross.&nbsp; On July 26, 
1975, she was united in marriage to Gary L. Walters in Miami, Oklahoma.&nbsp; 
They were married 46 years before he died on September 21, 2021.&nbsp; She 
enjoyed painting, wallpapering, watching old westerns, and drinking 
coffee.&nbsp; She also loved being outdoors, mowing, and helping Gary work 
around the yard.

Survivors include her son: Howard Krug 
of Hays, one sister: Rosie Williams of Laurie, MO, four sisters-in-law: 
Doris Dinkel, Rozine Lamberston and husband Harry, and Debbie Bohm and 
husband Tom, all of Hays, and Barbara McCauley of Topeka, and numerous 
nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary, and two brothers: Marvin and Larry Gross.

Graveside services for both Alice and 
Gary will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 10, 2022, in St. Joseph 
Cemetery, with Fr. Richard Daise officiating.&nbsp;

Janice Lee (Robinson) Legere was born April 4, 1935, in Hill City, 
Kansas to H. Leo and Mildred E. (Allen) Robinson. She passed away 
peacefully on April 21, 2022, in Hill City at the age of 87. She was a 
1953 graduate of Hill City High School. She then studied nursing at 
Fort Hays Kansas State College, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1957. 
Janice began her nursing career in obstetrics ~ she loved helping to 
bring babies into the world! She finished her nursing career working in
 geriatrics with a passion for providing elder care. However, nothing was more important to Janice than her family! She 
met the love of her life at a Hill City high School basketball game. 
February 10, 1957, Janice and Bob R. Legere were married at the Hill 
City Methodist Church. To that union three daughters were born: Beth, 
Lora, and Kelly. Janice and her family resided in Kansas, Illinois, 
and Colorado. Later in her life, Janice and Bob returned home once 
again to Hill City. A highlight for Janice was when she and Bob took their grandchildren
 on a special trip when they turned 12 years old. She treasured that 
they were able to experience this adventure with each grandchild! Janice is preceded in death by her parents, H. Leo and Mildred 
Robinson; husband, Bob R. Legere; two sisters, Lois Frey and Rita 
Stricklin; son-in-law, Roy E. Moxley; and a great-grandson, Zachary 
Rahden.

 She is survived by her daughters: Beth D. Moxley of Firth, 
Idaho, Lora K. (George) Lawrence of Windsor, Colorado, and Kelly A. 
(Randall) Coleman of Loveland, Colorado; a sister Carol (Amil) Ablah of 
Wichita; grandchildren: Christopher (Marla) Moxley, Rachael (Adam) 
Daniels, Jessica (Douglas) Rahden, Sarah (Kelvin) Reynolds, Kimberly 
(Steven) Lawton, Jillian (Ryan) Edmundson, Christina (Aaron) Powell, 
Rebecca Stamp and fiance' Blake Bennion, Thomas (Ellie) Coleman, and

Janice Lee Legere

Jacob "Jake" Zimmerman&nbsp;passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26. 2022, at the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in Quinter, KS. He was born on January 14,&nbsp;1918,&nbsp;on a farm in rural Grainfield, KS&nbsp;to the&nbsp;late George and Theresia (Lovenstein) Zimmerman.&nbsp;He was the second oldest in the family of six daughters and two sons.&nbsp;He attended school in Grainfield through part of the seventh grade.&nbsp;He worked on the family farm, for neighbors and the Conn Hogan family in Colorado for a couple&nbsp;of years.

Jake served in the U.S. Army, 7th&nbsp;Infantry Division, 17th&nbsp;Regiment, H Company from March of 1941 through October 1945.&nbsp;He served as a heavy machine-gunner in the Pacific Theater Campaigns in the Aleutian Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Philippines and the 82-day battle for the Rkukyus Islands of Okinawa, Japan.&nbsp;He was awarded&nbsp;a Bronze Star, two Bronze Service Stars and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal.&nbsp;Sgt. Zimmerman was discharged at Ft. Logan, CO and returned to Grainfield in October of 1945.

On April 15,&nbsp;1947,&nbsp;he was united in marriage to Helen (Pfeifer) Zimmerman at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Peter, KS.&nbsp;To this union five sons were born.&nbsp;They enjoyed 66 years of marriage.

Jake was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park, when he was younger and then a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Grainfield.&nbsp;He was a member of the Grainfield Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign War, Post #2864,&nbsp;Grinnell,&nbsp;and the American Legion Post #301, Grainfield.&nbsp;He was a faithful Legion stag/stagette worker and served on the military funeral detail.

He enjoyed farming on the family farm southeast of Grainfield until retiring and moving into Grainfield in 1980. He enjoyed watching the crops grow and raised wheat, sorghum, barley, oats, soybeans, feed,&nbsp;cattle,&nbsp;and chickens.

Jake enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren coming to visit him.&nbsp;He was honored with a 100th&nbsp;Birthday party and special program honoring his years of service during WWII on January 14,&nbsp;2018,&nbsp;with&nbsp;many relatives and friends in attendance.&nbsp;He enjoyed the day immensely and loved all the gifts and cards filled with well wishes.&nbsp;Jake enjoyed living in this own home through the assistance of his family providing daily meals and night supervision until his move into the&nbsp;Long-Term&nbsp;Care Facility in April of 2021.

Jake will be dearly missed by many friends and family including his five sons: Darold (Beverly) Grainfield, Elmer (the late Yvonne), Hoxie, Melvern (Darlene) Grainfield, Ronald (Jo Ann) Grainfield and Reuben (Dighton).&nbsp;Eighteen grandchildren and&nbsp;thirty-one&nbsp;great grandchildren.&nbsp;Two sisters; (JoAnn Engel), Oakley and Magdalena (Mactie) WaKeeney.

Those preceding him in death were his parents (George and Theresia) and brother, Joseph (Joe) and sister-in-law (Pauline) Zimmerman; sisters&nbsp;and&nbsp;brother-in-laws: Raymond and (Margaret) Deges,&nbsp;Nicklaus and (Frances) Zerr,&nbsp;Henry Engel,&nbsp;Dominic (Victoria) Zerr and Valentine and (Anna Mary) Heier and George Uhrich.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2022, at St. Agnes Education Center, with vigil and rosary to follow.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May&nbsp;2, 2022, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Father Mitchel Zimmerman and Father James Thomas as&nbsp;concelebrants.

Jacob 'Jake' Zimmerman

Laura Augusta Kirkwood, 67, passed away April 27, 2022, at her home in Larned.

She was born August 21, 1954, in Larned, the daughter of Adolph and Patricia Howe Stueckemann.

A lifetime area resident of Larned and Garfield, she was a school bus
 driver for USD 495, a cook at Larned High School, and later worked in 
medical coding at Larned State Hospital where she retired in March of 
2020. She was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed traveling with her 
friends, being a farm wife, checking baby calves, gardening, and baking.
 She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

On August 14, 1976, she married Kent A. Kirkwood at Larned; he preceded her in death on January 20, 2017.

Survivors include: two sons, Levi (Lila Metzker) Kirkwood, Afton, OK,
 Ross Kirkwood, Larned; daughter, Tasha (Scott Honey) Starr, Fairland, 
OK; two sisters, Lee Anne Williams, Larned, Layna Dechant, Phoenix, AZ; 
aunt, Jo Ann Stueckemann, Apple Valley, MN; six grandchildren, Tristen 
Kirkwood, Brooke Tudor, Lane Tudor, Taryn Kirkwood, Treyton Kirkwood, 
and Jesse Starr; and a host of extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022, at Larned 
Cemetery with Chaplain Jeff Johnson presiding. Visitation will be 1:00

Laura Augusta Kirkwood

Alice K. (Meis) Sander, 70, died Monday, April 11, 2022, surrounded by her family at her home in Murdock, KS, after fighting cancer for 6 months like a warrior, while maintaining dignity and grace throughout her courageous battle.

She was born November 18, 1951, in Hays, KS, the daughter of Gilbert and Velma (Eidson) Meis. She graduated from Hays High School in 1969. On October 19, 1974, she married Alvin B. “Brad” Sander in Kinsley, KS. She was a longtime resident of Victoria, KS before moving to Kingman, KS.&nbsp;

Alice loved quilting, sitting on her porch swing, cooking for her family and friends, traveling with her husband, spending time with her grandchildren and beloved bulldogs, and sending cards to those she loved. She was an avid sports fan and a loyal fan of her beloved Kansas Jayhawks. She always put others before herself.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband Brad; two daughters Shannon Sander of Hays, KS and Mandi Stephenson of Cheney, KS; two grandchildren Connor Stephenson and Madilyn Stephenson; bulldogs Gertie and Roxie; brother Gilbert “Bill” Meis and wife Betty of Hays, KS; sisters Joan Schoendaller and husband Leonard of Colorado Springs, CO, Shari Dreiling and husband Alex of Hays, KS; sisters-in-law Gladys Swindler, Patty Billinger, Sandra Sander-Crawford; brother-in-law Darrell Sander, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was proceeded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law Alvin P. and Bonnie Sander; and two brothers-in-law Irwin “Irv” Sander and Marty Sander.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be held on April 30, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Livingston’s Funeral Home, 1830 N. Main, Kingman, Kansas.

Alice K. (Meis) Sander

Charles A. "Bud" Romey, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, died April 25, 
2022. He was born October 30, 1934, in Hays, Kansas. After graduation 
from Dighton High School, Bud moved to Kansas City where he worked for 
the Union Pacific Railroad Company. He married Mildred J. Nick on 
January 12, 1957. Shortly after their marriage Bud was drafted into the 
Army where he served in Verdun, France, for two years. Mildred joined 
him and they enjoyed touring Europe during the time Bud was stationed 
overseas. Their first daughter was born while they were stationed in 
France.

The couple returned to Kansas City where Bud started his 
own business, Romey Electric Company, with the help of his wife, 
Mildred. They had four sons and another daughter over the next 15 years.
 The couple co-founded Romey Enterprises, Inc., in 1967, which Bud ran

In
 1976 the family moved to a farm in Trimble, Missouri. For 26 years they
 lived on their farm until all the children were grown and they returned
 to Kansas City. During those years, Bud grew his business, at one time 
owning and operating five branches of his store, The Lighting Center.

Bud
 earned a pilot’s license and enjoyed traveling to hunt and fish. He 
also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad with his family 
and later, after retiring, with his wife, Mildred, and occasionally with
 his grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Kansas City from 1959-1976 and again from 2002-2014.

Bud
 is survived by his six children: Linda Romey, OSB, Erie, Pennsylvania, 
Steven Romey (Kathy), Kansas City, Richard Romey (Debbie), Leawood, Gary
 Romey (Kasumi), Sandy, Utah, Cindy Romey (Eric Barroso), Kansas City, 
Robert Romey, Kansas City; nine grandchildren, Josh (Holly), Zach 
(Ciera), Nicholas, William, Alana, Kaylin, Sho, Koichi, and Kaito and 
five great-grandchildren, Kael, Kameron, Kennedi, Kassius, and Kruz. He 
also leaves one brother, Larry, three sisters-in-law, Rosalie Kelly, 
Elizabeth Nick Stafford, and Rita (Mike) Crubel, and two 
brothers-in-law, William Nick, CSC, and Joseph (Elaine) Nick, and many 
nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Mildred, his 
loving wife of 57 years, in 2014, and his parents Adolph and Beatrice 
(Brull) Romey, and brothers, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

 Saturday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, 
Kansas City, Missouri, Rosary at 10:45 a.m. followed by Mass of 
Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial following at Resurrection 
Cemetery.

2022. He was born October 30, 1934, in Hays, Kansas. After graduation 
from Dighton High School, Bud moved to Kansas City where he worked for 
the Union Pacific Railroad Company. He married Mildred J. Nick on 
January 12, 1957. Shortly after their marriage Bud was drafted into the 
Army where he served in Verdun, France, for two years. Mildred joined 
him and they enjoyed touring Europe during the time Bud was stationed 
overseas. Their first daughter was born while they were stationed in 
France.The couple returned to Kansas City where Bud started his 
own business, Romey Electric Company, with the help of his wife, 
Mildred. They had four sons and another daughter over the next 15 years.
 The couple co-founded Romey Enterprises, Inc., in 1967, which Bud ran 
until he retired in 2021 and turned the business over to his children. In

Charles A. 'Bud' Romey

Mandy L. Odle was born on April 14, 1975, in Connecticut, and died&nbsp;April 24, 2022, at the Salina Regional Health Center very peacefully surrounded with love.&nbsp;

Mandy is the strongest person to ever walk on the face of the earth.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mandy and Todd were united in marriage on June 6, 2006, and have enjoyed a very happy life together.&nbsp;

She faced many battles throughout her life and took every one in stride.&nbsp;

Mandy had a love for writing and filled 
many notebooks full of her stories that are located throughout the 
house. Dancing and singing were a big love also. The Twilight Movies and
 Book Series were another big love of hers. She so enjoyed to be 
surrounded by all that came to be with her throughout her life. She had a
 passion for making friends and turning them into family. She enjoyed 
the company of others. She loved with everything she had. She didn’t 
consider anyone a stranger. Her door was always open and her shoulder 
was always there to lean on. She always had a story to tell. She enjoyed
 spending time with family especially her grand babies. They were her 
world.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Her other enjoyment was the dirt track 
racing world of going to the races with Todd to&nbsp;enjoy a night out under 
the stars with the cars running loud and fast. The number on Todd and 
Mandy’s race car was picked for their date of union in marriage of June 6th of it being car 63. &nbsp;

She is survived by her husband Todd 
Odle of Glen Elder, her mother Diane Riley of Hays, her daughter Kristin
 Amon of Beloit, her son Dustin west of Cawker City, her grandchildren 
with all of her close friends, and brother in laws and sister in laws, 
aunts, uncles and so many more that love her till eternity.&nbsp; &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by many family and friends. May they all rest in peace.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Thursday, April 28, at the Glen 
Elder Friends Church. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with family present

Norman Ray Sumpter was born on March 28th, 1962, in Beloit Ks to Wayne 
and Ernestine (Lawson) Sumpter and passed away at Downs Health and

Austin James Heier was born on December 7th, 1994, to Ron and Nancy Heier. He passed away April 21st, 2022. 
Austin grew up in Wisconsin and Kansas graduating from Quinter High 
School in 2013. After high school Austin proudly served his country in 
the United States Army for five years. During his time with the military
 he earned many accolades, spent time deployed to South Korea, and made 
lasting friendships. After returning from the Army, Austin enjoyed 
seeing the country through the windshield of a semi. He spoke of the 
many beautiful sites he’d seen and people he met along the way. 
The absolute light of Austin’s life was born on October 1st, 2013, in 
the form of a little girl named Harper. Austin grew to be an amazing and
 caring father, always going above and beyond to make sure Harper was 
taken care of and spoiled. More than anything, he loved her with his 
entire being and always put her first. They shared a love of Pokémon, 
everything outdoors, and the same orneriness.

Dalen Eldon Ratliff

Junior Lee Deutsch, 89, died Monday April 25, 2022, at Country Place 
Senior Living, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born November 18, 1932, at 
Susank, Kansas, the son of Fred and Emelia (Bitter) Deutsch.&nbsp; Junior was
 a graduate of Hoisington High School.&nbsp; He &nbsp;grew up in the St. John 
Lutheran Church at Susank and later was a member of the Concordia 
Lutheran Church, Hoisington.&nbsp; He served is the U.S. Army in 1954-56 
during the Korean Conflict as a carpenter and was stationed in 
Fairbanks, Alaska.&nbsp; Junior attended the Kansas School of Barbering in 
Wichita and then became a barber on Main Street Hoisington during the 
‘60s.&nbsp; He then became a brakeman and later an engineer with Missouri 
Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad from 1966 until March 1991 when a serious
 train accident allowed him to retire from the railroad after 25 years 
of service.&nbsp; He so enjoyed working with all his railroad buddies and 
talked of them frequently. Junior was a member of the American Legion 
Post #286 and the V.F.W. of Hoisington.

Junior’s hobbies included fishing trips to Lake Wilson with his best 
buddies and many hunting trips with relatives and friends.&nbsp; He also was a
 skilled handyman and could fix everything.&nbsp; He enjoyed time at KSU 
events especially attending football games and tailgates with friends 
and family.

On April 25, 1954, he married Wilmetta Katie Mai at Bender Hill 
Church in Milberger, Kansas.&nbsp; Junior passed away on Monday, their 68th
 wedding anniversary.&nbsp; Wilmetta survives at Country Place Senior Living 
in Hoisington.&nbsp; Other survivors include; their children and spouses, 
Johnny Deutsch and Carma of Topeka, and Kimberly Emert and John of 
Mission;&nbsp; four grandchildren Sara Jones (Chris), Ryan Deutsch (Holly), 
Frank Emert (Anne) and Molly Campbell (Michael); six great-grandchildren
 Camden and Julia Jones, McKenna, Kaia and Mila Deutsch, and Claire 
Ferne Campbell.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Armin, 
Raymond, Paul, Leland, Dean, Edwin, Edward and Robert; sisters, Helena 
Mai, Theresa Dumler, Irene Bitter and Wilma Miller.

Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral 
home. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place per Junior’s
 wishes.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m.,Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 
Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington with Pastor Gary Wolf presiding.&nbsp; 
Family will greet friends prior to service starting at 10 am at the

Junior Lee Deutsch

Donald Duane Ganoung passed away on April 24, 2022, at the Hays Medical 
Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 92. He was born on April 29, 1929, 
in Rural Rooks County, Kansas to Herman and Mary (Novotny) Ganoung. Don 
was united in marriage to Earlene (Miller) Ganoung on April 12, 1959, at
 the United Methodist Church in Plainville. The couple was blessed with 
three sons: Randy, Richard and Doug.
 Don was a lifetime resident of Rooks County and a fifth-generation 
farmer on his family’s homestead. He graduated from Plainville High 
School with the class of 1947. Following High School he went to work as 
an assistant manager at Mackwelling Lumber Company before enlisting in 
the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as an Airforce policeman. Don 
was honorably discharged and returned to Rooks County to work for the 
lumber yard and to help his father on the family farm and formed a 
partnership, Ganoung Charolais with his brother Herman Jr. Don retired 
at the age of 87.
 He loved tending to the land and raising Charolais. Don rarely left 
home, but when he did it was to take his family to Estes Park and other 
national forests camping, going on bus trips with his wife and friends, 
or square dancing at a local dance. He didn’t know a stranger and 
thoroughly enjoyed visiting with his friends, neighbors, and cattle 
customers. Don was a member of the United Methodist Church in 
Plainville.
 Don is survived by his wife Earlene Ganoung of Plainville, KS; sons,
 Randy (Denise) Ganoung of Plainville, KS, Richard Ganoung of Paola, KS,
 and Doug (Kim) Ganoung of Valley Center, KS; fourteen grandchildren and
 eighteen great-grandchildren.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mary Ganoung; 
siblings, Herman Ganoung Jr., Angela Denio, and Raymond Ganoung; and one
 great-grandson.
 A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 10:30 
AM at the United Methodist Church in Plainville. Visitation will be on 
Thursday at the funeral home from 2 PM until 8 PM with Family Receiving 
Friends from 5 PM until 7 PM.

 </figure>Donald Duane Ganoung passed away on April 24, 2022, at the Hays Medical 
Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 92. He was born on April 29, 1929, 
in Rural Rooks County, Kansas to Herman and Mary (Novotny) Ganoung. Don 
was united in marriage to Earlene (Miller) Ganoung on April 12, 1959, at
 the United Methodist Church in Plainville. The couple was blessed with 
three sons: Randy, Richard and Doug.
 Don was a lifetime resident of Rooks County and a fifth-generation 
farmer on his family’s homestead. He graduated from Plainville High 
School with the class of 1947. Following High School he went to work as 
an assistant manager at Mackwelling Lumber Company before enlisting in 
the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as an Airforce policeman. Don 
was honorably discharged and returned to Rooks County to work for the 
lumber yard and to help his father on the family farm and formed a 
partnership, Ganoung Charolais with his brother Herman Jr. Don retired 
at the age of 87.
 He loved tending to the land and raising Charolais. Don rarely left 
home, but when he did it was to take his family to Estes Park and other 
national forests camping, going on bus trips with his wife and friends, 
or square dancing at a local dance. He didn’t know a stranger and 
thoroughly enjoyed visiting with his friends, neighbors, and cattle 
customers. Don was a member of the United Methodist Church in 
Plainville.
 Don is survived by his wife Earlene Ganoung of Plainville, KS; sons,
 Randy (Denise) Ganoung of Plainville, KS, Richard Ganoung of Paola, KS,
 and Doug (Kim) Ganoung of Valley Center, KS; fourteen grandchildren and
 eighteen great-grandchildren.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mary Ganoung; 
siblings, Herman Ganoung Jr., Angela Denio, and Raymond Ganoung; and one
 great-grandson.
 A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 10:30 
AM at the United Methodist Church in Plainville. Visitation will be on 
Thursday at the funeral home from 2 PM until 8 PM with Family Receiving 
Friends from 5 PM until 7 PM.
 In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the United Methodist 
Church or Redbud Estates and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease

Sister Kevin Clavin, 83, died April 20, 2022, at the KU Med Center in
 Kansas City, KS.&nbsp; She was born May 8, 1938, in Kilbeggan, Ireland, the 
daughter of James and Molly Mulligan Clavin.&nbsp; She entered the Dominican 
Sisters Community in 1955 and pronounced vows in 1958.&nbsp; Sister Kevin 
celebrated sixty years of religious profession in 2018.

Sister Kevin ministered as an elementary school teacher for 52 years,
 serving in several schools in Kansas and Colorado, ending her career 
after serving 27 years in Durango, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp; She retired to the 
motherhouse in Great Bend in 2011 where she served her Sisters in 
numerous ways.

Sister Kevin was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bro.
 James Clavin.&nbsp; She is survived by four brothers, Pat (Evelyn) Clavin, 
John (Susan) Clavin, Lian (Fidelma) Clavin, all of Ireland, and Rev. 
Oliver Clavin of Springfield, MO, and two sisters, Joan Young of 
Overland Park, KS, and Evelyn (Richard) Hefferan of Ireland, numerous 
nieces and nephews, as well as the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 28.&nbsp; The 
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 on Friday, April 29.&nbsp; Both 
will take place at the Sisters’ Convent.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Sisters’
 Resurrection Cemetery.

Sister Kevin Clavin

Paul Anthony Huslig, 87, passed away on April 24, 2022, at Catholic 
Care Center in Bel Aire, Kansas. He was born on October 25, 1934, at 
Great Bend, Kansas to Anton F. &amp; Louise A. (Maneth) Huslig. Paul 
married Berniece C. Schneweis on May 9, 1964, at Great Bend, Kansas. She
 died November 14, 2020.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Paul was an operator technician for 
West Plains Energy. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. 
Patrick Catholic Church, a Third Degree Knight for the Knights of 
Columbus Council #862, a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Coronado 
Assembly member, member of the American Legion and the 13th Engineer 
Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Wierman and husband Tom of 
Wichita and Ruth Huslig of Great Bend; two brothers, Jerome Huslig of 
Ellinwood and Charles Huslig of Ellsworth; a sister, Helen McBurney of 
Kingman; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Molly and Justin Wierman 
and Hope Huslig. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, 
Bernice Huslig; a son, Maurice Huslig; four brothers, Arthur, Marcus, 
Larry and Ervin Huslig; and a sister, Mary Ann Wondra.

Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. with vigil and 
Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 
Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30

Paul Anthony Huslig

SUDBURY, Mass. — Dr. Homer Reed died peacefully on April 20, 2022, at Newton Wellesley Hospital during a brief illness.

He was born in Hays, Kansas, on January 30, 1930, the youngest child of Homer B. Reed and Elma Carey Reed.

Dr. Reed was the beloved father of Lynne Reed of Leicester, N.C., John Reed and his wife Beth Webb Reed of Holmes Beach, FL, Alexandra Reed and her husband&nbsp;WulfdieterKlemm of Glendale, CA and Mark Reed of San Francisco, CA. He is also the loving grandfather of Carey Pettaway of Leicester, NC, Lauren Reed of Washington, D.C., and Mathew Reed of Los Angeles, CA. He also leaves his nephew Patrick Reed of New York City and 20 (estimated) other nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his brother James Reed, his former wife Dorothy Reed, and his sisters Mary Elizabeth&nbsp;Seruto, Kathryn&nbsp;Daughaday, Margaret&nbsp;Schweinand Anne Jansen.

Dr. Reed was raised in Hays,&nbsp;Kansas, where his father was a professor in psychology at Fort Hays State College and his mother was an avid antique collector and part time antique dealer in addition to&nbsp;being&nbsp;a homemaker. He was a gifted child who was frequently asked to participate in psychology studies or experiments, and he graduated from high school at the age of 16. He went on to obtain his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Ft. Hays, then he entered the doctoral program in psychology at Purdue University and received his Ph.D. in 1955.&nbsp;

Dr. Reed was on the faculty at Florida State University from 1956-60, but he spent two summers learning neuropsychology from Dr. Ralph&nbsp;Reitan&nbsp;at Indiana University Medical Center, and this became his passion. He obtained a faculty position at IU in 1960 and worked with Dr.&nbsp;Reitanuntil 1966. He was then recruited to develop a Neuropsychology Service at Tuft’s New England Medical Center, and he directed their neuropsychology program until 1997. Subsequently, he worked privately as president of Medical Psychology Associates until 2006, and afterwards, he continued to do some part time work in the practice of his colleague, Dr. Allan Rooney, until January 2020. He trained and mentored&nbsp;post doctoral&nbsp;fellows throughout his career, conducted research, especially in pediatric neuropsychology, and he was author or co-author of 29 articles published in professional journals.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Reed was a competitive bridge player who most often partnered with his brother James at tournaments. He also loved fly fishing, he was a voracious reader, from professional books to philosophy to Westerns and Mysteries, and he was known for his sense of humor, which was often mischievous.

Dr. Homer Reed

Ronald Lee Blaesi of Sharon Spring, KS, 72, passed after a brief 
illness on April 23, 2022, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.&nbsp;

Ron was the son of Dwight Duane and Vlasta (Holsan) Blaesi.&nbsp; He was 
born in Emporia, KS on May 28, 1949, and lived in many small towns in 
Kansas before graduating from Scott City High School in 1967.&nbsp; He earned
 a B.A. in History from Kansas State University in 1971.

After graduation Ron joined his father farming in Sharon Springs and 
then purchased land of his own.&nbsp; Ron and Dwight farmed together for many
 years, until Dwight’s retirement, and Ron assumed management of the 
farms.

Ron married Shirley Ann Eilert on September 2, 1978, in Sharon 
Springs.&nbsp; Four children were born to this union:&nbsp; LeAnn Renee (Jeremy) 
Hansford of Strong City, KS, Duane Ray Blaesi of Omaha, NE, Jacqueline 
Marie Blaesi-Freed (Ryan) of Alexandria, VA, and Elizabeth Jean Blaesi 
of Phoenixville, PA.&nbsp; Ron enjoyed spending time with his three 
grandchildren, Heidi Agnes (11) and Addison Ava (7) Hansford and Owen 
William Freed (8). &nbsp;&nbsp;

Ron was a current board member of Western Plains Energy, LLC Oakley, 
KS; Western Plains Wind, LLC, Oakley, KS; and Fort Wallace Memorial 
Association, Wallace, KS.&nbsp; He was a past board member of Wallace County 
Farm Bureau, Kansas Corn Commission, and Kansas Wheat Commission.

Ron and Shirley enjoyed traveling to see their children and 
grandchildren and exploring the southwest and northwest parts of the 
United States.&nbsp; Recently Ron had a newfound interest in stargazing as a 
result of spending reunion time with his brother and sister.&nbsp; He was 
also known for his dowsing abilities and called upon frequently to find 
water or graves.&nbsp; He was an avid reader, especially of western novels by
 Zane Gray and Louis L’Amour.&nbsp;

Ron was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a few of his cousins.&nbsp;

Ron is survived by his wife Shirley of the home, his children, LeAnn,
 Duane, Jackie, and Beth, sister LaVon Blaesi of Ft. Collins, CO and a 
brother John (Mary) Blaesi of Bartlesville, OK.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Phillipsburg resident Larry F. Ott passed away April 17, 2022, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 87.  He was born December 28, 1934, in Hooper, NE.

Survivors include his son Darrel of Phillipsburg; 2 daughters, Jodie Derr of Phillipsburg &amp; Brenda Pfannenstiel of Glade; 8 grandchildren &amp; 6 great grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Lee Bennight officiating.  The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Larry F. Ott

Orva Jean Wolfe, 96, died April 23, 2022, at Wesley Towers.&nbsp; She was 
born February&nbsp;24, 1926, in Otis, KS, &nbsp;the daughter of Ben and Dena 
(Hergert) Scheuerman.

Orva Jean graduated from La Crosse High School and went on to receive
 her Bachelor of Arts degree from Fort Hays State, in 1948. &nbsp;While at 
Fort Hays, she met, fell in love, and was united in marriage with 
Charles (Jack) Wolfe January 24, 1947, in Bazine, KS. They were blessed 
with two children, Kent and Kathy Jo.

Orva Jean was a devoted wife and homemaker to her children. She 
worked as a bookkeeper at the Bolinger Agency in Bucklin, Curtis Machine
 Company of Dodge City, and retired as a bookkeeper at Bucklin Co-op in 
1988.&nbsp; She also belonged to several Federated clubs in Bucklin and the 
Bucklin UMW, where she served as secretary&nbsp;for many years.&nbsp;

In 2007, she moved to Hutchinson to be closer to family. Orva Jean’s 
biggest enjoyment was spending time with family, especially her 
grandson, Dakota, and watching him grow up to be a caring&nbsp;soul like 
herself.&nbsp;

While in Hutchinson, Orva Jean resided at Wesley Towers. She enjoyed 
her time there, made many dear friends, and was loved by all.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Orva Jean is survived&nbsp;by: son, Kent Wolfe and wife, Sonya; grandson, 
Dakota Wolfe, all of Hutchinson; and a brother, Paul Scheuerman, of 
Otis.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Ben and Dena Scheuerman; 
husband, Charles; daughter, Kathy Jo Wolfe; and brother, Gail 
Scheuerman.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers,&nbsp;memorials are suggested to Wesley Towers Library 
Fund (to carry on Orva’s love of reading), in care of Elliott Mortuary,

Frederick “Dwaine” Shorman passed to his heavenly choir on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the age of 91.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dwaine was born on July 22, 1930, the second son and third child of 
William Frederick and Lauretta Victoria Sumners Shorman in Morganville, 
Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

His elementary years were spent at Morganville and Clay Center 
Schools.&nbsp; He was president of his senior class and enjoyed sports, 
drama, and music. Dwaine graduated from Wakefield High School in 1948. 
He earned his private airplane pilot’s license in 1968 and later earned 
an Aircraft and Powerplant Mechanics license from Kansas State Tech 
Institute.&nbsp;

In 1953, he married Rosalie Woellhof of Clay Center and farming 
continued to be their way of life.&nbsp; He was a farm owner, manager, 
operator and mechanic for 53-plus years. &nbsp;Dwaine and Rosalie lived on 
their family homestead for 64 years, the same farm his 
great-grandparents owned. He enjoyed remodeling and upgrading their 
family home which was built in 1874. &nbsp;He took much pride and 
satisfaction in continuing this farming tradition of over 100 years.&nbsp; 
Other work accomplishments: worked ten years for the ASCS, represented 
Vigortone Feed and Archer Oil, and worked at Fullington 
Lumber.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Music was the enjoyment of his life and a song was always on his 
lips.&nbsp; His music career began in high school and developed into solo 
work, quartets, church choir, leading the singing and fulfilling 
requests at weddings, funerals, churches and community events.&nbsp; Playing 
the trombone and cornet was an added compliment to his musical 
accolades.

Dwaine enjoyed sharing his love of sports with his three boys.&nbsp;&nbsp; The 
family enjoyed flying, baseball, basketball, boating, waterskiing, snow 
skiing and riding motorcycles.

Some of Dwaine’s most memorable experiences involve a missionary work
 tour to Kenya, Africa, ministering along with his wife Rosalie, with 
the local Marriage Encounter group called “Flame," and members of the 
Holiday Ramblers Sunflower RV Club.

As a young man of 19, he committed his life to Christ.&nbsp; Dwaine was a 
member of the First Baptist Church and was a spiritual leader. He was 
involved in the music and drama ministry, taught Sunday school classes, 
and served as a deacon.

Dwaine loved being a family man.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was so proud of their three 
sons, Gary, Darcy and Mark, their wives, grandchildren, and great 
grandchildren.&nbsp; He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, 
brother, a good friend and neighbor.&nbsp;&nbsp; He will be missed by those who 
knew him as a friendly, kind, helpful, and caring person.

Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Betty Jean, 
and brothers Don and Robert. &nbsp;He is survived by his wife Rosalie, his 
three sons and their families, two sisters, sister-in-law, and numerous 
nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Friday, April 29, 2022, at the 
First Baptist Church in Clay Center with Pastor Matthew Coleman 
officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until 10:30 am
 on Friday at the church. Burial will be at 3 pm in the Fairview 
Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or to Voice of the 
Martyrs and may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Frederick 'Dwaine' Shorman

Danna Jean was born September 28, 1928, in Sylvan Grove, Kansas, to 
parents Hilda and Ray Ulrich.&nbsp; She was the oldest of four children with 
siblings Darrel, Wanda, and Dee.&nbsp; She grew up in Kansas living in Sylvan
 Grove, Lincoln and Ellsworth.&nbsp; It was at Ellsworth in the Senior High 
School that she met Donald McCracken, who became her husband and best 
friend.&nbsp;

On September 2, 1949, Danna and Don were united in marriage in 
Ellsworth.&nbsp; Their marriage was founded on their love of their Lord and 
Savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; They joyfully and faithfully served Christ 
together as they raised their family and worked in ministry.&nbsp; Their 
family included two sons, Clyde and Duane, and one daughter, Janet.&nbsp;

She was a loving mother who, through example, taught her 
children grace, forgiveness, humility, hospitality, respect and love for
 others.&nbsp; She not only enjoyed cooking for her immediate family, but for
 all family at holidays and gatherings. Family was her first priority, 
whether it was conquering her childhood fears so she could learn how to 
water ski with her children or making sure each child was tucked in bed 
with nighttime prayers.

Danna was the quiet strength that supported Don in his role as 
pastor at La Cygne, KS. Calvary Baptist, The Baptist Church of 
Concordia, First Baptist Church of El Dorado, and The First Baptist 
Church in Liberal. Danna not only hosted many church dinners in their 
home, she on more than one occasion opened up her home and mealtime to 
stranded travelers.&nbsp; She also served as “host mother” to two 
international college students.&nbsp; While in El Dorado she taught at the 
First Baptist Daycare and Pre School for several years.&nbsp; She looked at 
her time in the daycare as an opportunity to minister to both the 
children in her care as well as their families.

Upon retirement, Don &amp; Danna moved to Ness City, Ks where 
they enjoyed serving as lay leaders in the First Baptist Church.&nbsp; Danna 
served on the leadership board and loved being a part of the children’s 
ministries. &nbsp;Retirement also gave her the opportunity to pursue her love
 of reading.&nbsp; She was a frequent visitor to the Ness City library as 
well as her monthly reading of several Christian magazines that kept her informed of God’s work throughout 
the world.&nbsp; She and her husband shared a personal commitment to and 
interest in the ministry in India.&nbsp; Danna and Don made several trips to 
India, leaving behind a legacy of God’s outreach.&nbsp;

Preceding Danna in death was her beloved husband, Don; infant 
son, Robert.; brother Darrel Ulrich, sister Wanda (Ulrich) Anderson; as 
well as several sisters and brothers-in-law.

She is survived by her eldest son Clyde McCracken and wife Kay 
of Ness City, grandson Christopher (Katie) and three great grandsons of 
Andover and grandson Philip (Lindsey) of West Palm Beach, FL;&nbsp; her son 
Duane (Trena) of Overland Park, grandson Clark (Lindsay) and three great
 granddaughters and one great grandson all of DeSoto and granddaughter 
Danae McCracken Rus&nbsp; (Darren) and two great granddaughters of Overland 
Park; her daughter Janet McCracken Wittwer (Dan) of Dawson, NE, 
granddaughter Alicia (Jordan) Andrew and two great granddaughters, all 
of Auburn, and grandson Nathaniel (Chelsea) Wittwer and two great 
grandsons all of Lenexa, KS.

She also is survived by her youngest brother, Dee (Helen) Ulrich of 
Colorado Springs as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

Danna believed that God’s most important work for her was that 
of being a loving wife, mother and grandma.&nbsp; She knew that to love her 
family in the best way possible was to love Christ first.&nbsp; And she did.&nbsp;

Saturday, April 23, 2022, she left this earth to live life to the fullest in heaven for eternity with her Lord and Savior.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be Friday, April 29, 10:00 – 11:30 at Fitzgerald
 Funeral Home in Ness City Kansas.&nbsp; An opportunity for family and 
friends to share memories and Danna’s influence upon their lives will be
 from 11:00 – 11:30.&nbsp; All are invited to the graveside service that will
 follow.&nbsp; Family and friends are then invited to share together at a 
luncheon at the First Baptist Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Danna Jean McCracken

Clarence L. Herrman, age 91, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022,
 at Reflection Living in Dodge City.&nbsp; He was born on May 23, 1930, in 
Liebenthal, the son of Bart and Dorothy (Schaffer) Herrman.

Clarence graduated from Ensign High School in 1949 and continued his 
education at Dodge City Community College where he played football.&nbsp; He 
loved telling his children and grandchildren that the area sportswriters
 referred to him as “jet-legged” Herrman. He married Neola Reinert on 
January 2, 1950, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City.&nbsp; Clarence and 
Neola raised their 4 children on farms near Ensign.&nbsp; He retired from 
farming in 1999.&nbsp;

Clarence loved playing town-team baseball in his early married life.&nbsp;
 He was also a member of the Ensign Implement Bowling Team.&nbsp; Clarence 
enjoyed hunting trips to Colorado and Wyoming with his friends and 
father-in-law, but his greatest sporting passion became the game of 
golf.&nbsp; He was a member of Mariah Hills Golf Club and Cimarron Golf Club,
 where he made many life-long friends, accumulated a host of tournament 
trophies and became known as the “Ensign Golfer."

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the 
Knights of Columbus of Dodge City.&nbsp; He also served as a board member of 
the Ensign Farmer’s Cooperative and Dodge City Cooperative.

Clarence is survived by his wife of over 72 years, Neola Herrman.&nbsp; He
 is also survived by three daughters, Susan (Nancy) Herrman of 
Manalapan, New Jersey, Janet (Ed) Thompson of Shawnee, and Beverly 
(Mike) Arel of Olathe; and a son, Ron (Lea) Herrman of Dodge City.&nbsp; He 
leaves 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren to carry on his 
legacy.&nbsp; He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded 
in death by his parents and three brothers, Gerald, Les and Donnie.

Funeral mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 
Dodge City on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Wesley 
Schawe presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Ensign Cemetery, two miles 
south of Ensign.&nbsp; Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge 
City on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with the 
family present during that time.&nbsp; A vigil service will also be held on 
Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the church. 

Memorials are suggested to 
Alzheimer’s Association or Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund in care of

golf.&nbsp; He was a member of Mariah Hills Golf Club and Cimarron Golf Club,
 where he made many life-long friends, accumulated a host of tournament 
trophies and became known as the “Ensign Golfer."He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the 
Knights of Columbus of Dodge City.&nbsp; He also served as a board member of 
the Ensign Farmer’s Cooperative and Dodge City Cooperative.Clarence is survived by his wife of over 72 years, Neola Herrman.&nbsp; He
 is also survived by three daughters, Susan (Nancy) Herrman of 
Manalapan, New Jersey, Janet (Ed) Thompson of Shawnee, and Beverly 
(Mike) Arel of Olathe; and a son, Ron (Lea) Herrman of Dodge City.&nbsp; He 
leaves 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren to carry on his 
legacy.&nbsp; He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded 
in death by his parents and three brothers, Gerald, Les and Donnie.Funeral mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 
Dodge City on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Wesley 
Schawe presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Ensign Cemetery, two miles 
south of Ensign.&nbsp; Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge 
City on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with the 
family present during that time.&nbsp; A vigil service will also be held on 
Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the church. Memorials are suggested to 
Alzheimer’s Association or Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund in care of
