Ralph Hansen, 83, of Colby, died Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Hays Medical 
Center, in Hays, KS. He was born October 26, 1938, to Ernest and Eunice 
Hansen, Otis, Colorado. Ralph was the third of eight children. He 
graduated from Lone Star High School in 1956. He then attended 
Northeastern Junior College, Sterling, Colorado, where he met Betty 
Einspahr in 1958. He then went on to Colorado State University and 
married Betty on December 29, 1959. Their son Craig was born November 
1960. Ralph graduated with a degree in Agriculture from Colorado State 
University in December 1961. The young family moved to Colby, Kansas for
 his first post college job working as a Loan Officer for Production 
Credit Association where he worked for 10 years. During that time, they 
had a son Rod in August 1963, and adopted their daughter Lynae in May 
1968. In 1972 Ralph began working for the State of Kansas where he 
dedicated 30 years of his career. 
Throughout his life he devoted 25 years of service to the Boy Scouts of 
America as a volunteer Scout Master, District Executive and numerous 
other roles. He was recognized for his service with the rare Silver 
Beaver award. As a role model for the boys, he guided numerous young men
 to the rank of Eagle Scout. 
He dedicated countless hours of service to many organizations associated
 with the Lutheran Church, to include the local congregation, and the 
International Lutheran Laymen’s league. 
Ralph was preceded in death by his father and mother; older brother 
Roscoe; older sister Mary Evelyn and younger brother Ronnie. 
Ralph is survived by his sister Caroine, and brothers Kenneth, Donnie 
and wife Twila, and Dwain. He is also survived by his wife Betty; son 
Craig and wife Renae, their daughter Leshia and husband Matt Bruneel and
 their daughters Eleanor and Genevieve; son Rodney and wife Kalie and 
their son Ryan; daughter Lynae and her husband T.J. Douthit and their 
sons Jacob, James, and Justin. Also survived by numerous nieces, 
nephews, and their families. 
Ralph will be remembered as a hardworking, honest, Christian man, who 
cared deeply for those who were part of his life, always placing the 
needs of others first in his priorities. 
Visitation will take place from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2022, at 
Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, 
June 4, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Colby, with burial in Beulah

Ralph Hansen

Jay Anderson, age 87, died on June 1, 2022, in Oberlin, Kansas. He was 
born in Norton, Kansas, on February 4, 1935, to Arnold and Mary (Doubrava)
 Anderson.
 He graduated high school in Paradise, Kansas with the class of 1953 
and went on to Kansas State University for his bachelor’s degree. While
 there, he departed two years to serve in the Korean War. He then went 
on to K-State Veterinary School and graduated in 1962. After that he and
 his first wife and three children moved to Oberlin where Dr. Anderson 
began his veterinary career. A fourth child was born in Oberlin.
 After practicing many years, he retired and married his second wife,
 Ann Leake. They raised greyhounds for a few years and traveled the 
country in a fifth wheel. They moved back to Oberlin to settle down.
 Dr. Anderson participated in many community events and was active on
 many local boards, including Fair Board, City Council, Library and 
Rotary to name just a few. He was proud of coming from a public-minded 
family that worked for the interests of northwest Kansas, including a 
father who was a legislator and a grandfather who was an early Decatur 
settler. He was always strategizing and making notes on ways to further 
the development of Decatur County. It was rare to not see him with a 
yellow note pad in his retirement days, making notes about many things. 
 He also loved talking to people and telling many stories of the 
successes of past Kansans in bettering the community and of his own 
experiences as a country veterinarian and traveler. 
 Dr. Anderson also loved reading and collected a personal library 
focused on military and plains history. He frequently gifted his 
grandsons books and educational magazines and also took them on a trip 
to visit Little Bighorn Battlefield.
 Dr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Ann Anderson and three 
children, Jill (Anderson) Reichert and husband, Wilbur, Dresden; Amy 
Anderson and partner, Mark Webster, Oklahoma and Jane Anderson. His 
brother, Jon Anderson and wife Dorothy, San Francisco, CA. Also, three 
grandsons, Grant Reichert, Wenatchee, WA; Gannon Reichert and wife Mary,
 Oberlin and Gage Reichert and wife, Cole, Hill City and four great 
grandsons, Conner, Creo, Dean and Owen.
 He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Gatlin Reichert.
 Memorials are designated to the GROW Foundation. Jay would have 
also encouraged everyone to give their time and energy to the Decatur 
County Fair where he was one of the original volunteers involved in 
getting the Ferris wheel for the home-grown carnival and felt it was a 
very important part of keeping Decatur County strong.&nbsp;

Jay Arnold Anderson

Elwin Leland Fair, the second child of Elmer Leland and Sophia Lucille 
Fair, was born November 5, 1927, in Oxford, Nebraska. He passed away on 
May 28, 2022, at the age of 94 in Corvallis, Oregon. 
 Elwin attended elementary and middle school in a one-room country 
school and graduated from high school in Lebanon, Kansas, in 1946 where 
he was active in both football and baseball. After graduating, Elwin 
helped his folks farm the Fair Family Homestead until 1951 when he 
joined the Army as a mechanic stationed in Korea, where he had to make 
field repairs between battles. After his tour of duty, Elwin attended 
college in Klamath Falls, Oregon, at the Oregon Institute of Technology 
(OIT), receiving his degree in auto and diesel mechanics. After 
graduating, Elwin worked at Georgia Pacific as a mechanic in Logsdon, 
Oregon. During this time, he married Judy Aslin in February 1959 in the 
state of Washington and later that year, they welcomed daughter, Renee 
Fair, born in Toledo in September 1959. Elwin and Judy later divorced. 
Elwin then moved to Boise, Idaho, where he worked for a heavy equipment 
company for several years. Because of his father’s ill health, Elwin, 
along with his daughter Renee, moved back to the farm in Kansas to take 
over from his father, being the fourth generation to farm that tract of 
land. During this time, Elwin also worked in road construction in 
Hasting, Nebraska. 
 After Renee graduated high school, Elwin and his mother Lucille 
would make the drive west to visit his older sister, Betty (Fair) Mahler
 in Oregon and younger sister, Wilma (Fair) Shewey in Idaho, returning 
during the summers to the farm in Kansas. After Lucille’s passing, the 
family farm was sold and Elwin moved in to live with his sister Betty in
 Albany, Oregon, until December 2021 when she fell and broke her hip. He
 then moved to Lebanon, Oregon, to live with his daughter until his 
health started to decline, and in April was moved into a nursing home 
and was there until his death. 
 Elwin is survived by his daughter Renee Fair of Lebanon, Oregon, 
granddaughter Amanda (Monie) McLaughlin and husband Nic of California, 
and their two sons Paul and AlexZander, grandson Ethan Monie and fiancé 
Tracy of Albany, Oregon, and sister Betty (Fair) Mahler of Albany, 
Oregon. Elwin was preceded in death by his father Elmer Leland Fair in 
1982, Mother Sophia Lucille Fair in 2010, and younger sister Wilma

Elwin Leland Fair

Laura Elaine (Getty) Casper was complex. Rooted in small town Kansas, 
she was the sixth child born into a household of seven. The place, 
Downs, Kansas, is a speck of a town just off Highway 24, where everyone 
listened on the party-line and knew what an ornery and impetuous Elaine 
Casper was up to—even before her doting father and stern mother found 
out—unless they too were listening. The community was tight knit and so 
were the Gettys. It was this environment that shaped her loyalty to 
family and a consciousness that kept her anchored and resilient during 
her most difficult life challenges. Elaine was musically trained in both
 the saxophone and piano, entered College at Fort Hays State University 
(FHSU) with aspirations to teach, become a sorority girl with Delta 
Zeta, and maybe find a husband. She fulfilled all of her aspirations. It
 was at FHSU where Elaine met Jim Casper on the steps of Sheridan Hall. 
She was neither impressed or interested in going for coffee with Jim. 
When he declared that she would marry him one day, Elaine laughed and 
walked away. His dogged persistence eventually won her over. Their 
54-Year marriage was one of devotion, negotiation, confrontation, 
teamwork and love.

Elaine could see herself in all of her children—the good and the 
complicated. She knew how to push all of their “buttons” which often 
resulted in her end-goal—to manage the chaos created by equally ornery 
and willful children. An often-heard declaration when she was at her 
breaking point: “Wait until your father gets home.” She learned this 
well from her mother and watching the world from a younger sibling 
vantage point. Elaine did become a teacher but left the profession for 
an equally noble career as Mom. She was her children’s first and best 
teacher, educating them in the basics (reading, writing and arithmetic) 
and guiding them to navigate the world with humility, humanity, 
resilience and introspection. She was stern and yet soft, intensely 
loyal and awed by the intellectual curiosity and adventure inherent in 
her children and grandchildren. Her six children, (with their mother) 
have been an eclectic cabal, fiercely loyal to each other and to the 
larger Getty/Casper family. With Elaine’s passing the family has lost 
its anchor and its haven.

When she was Elaine, she was a funny, sarcastic, irreverent, moody 
and a curious aficionado of whodunnits. When she was Laura, she was 
intellectual, well-read, observant, an attentive listener, steeped in 
good etiquette, and a thoughtful caregiver. Her best self was when her 
Laura and Elaine merged together—which was most of the time. She was 
wonderfully, amazingly, frustratingly, complex.

Laura Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hazel 
Getty; three sisters, Jeannie, Helen and Liz; her beloved husband Jim, 
and grandsons Nicholas and John Patrick Short. She is survived by 
brothers, Bill and Steve Getty and sister, Patricia Steen. Elaine’s 
legacy is her six children: Stephanie Grinage (Richard), Sarah Short 
(John), Timothy Casper (Jennifer), Todd Casper (Julie), Suzanne Steele 
(Walter) and Thomas Casper (Heidi). She was smitten with her 
grandchildren Katherine and Alaura Short and Jaxson and Rylinn Pross; 
Andie Stalder (Garrett), Allie, Abigail and Charlie Casper and Gracie 
and Ayden Crozier; Matthew Casper (Shannon); Mike Lowe (Laura); Sturling
 Steele (Tara); Trisha Schumer (Scott); Hannah Bradbury (David), Sophie,
 TJ, Sadie, Michael, William and Drew Casper. Elaine’s great 
grandchildren Shiloh and Silas Stalder and Brytnee Berthot; Lyla Steele;
 and Wilkes Schumer were her joy. Elaine influence extended to her 
nephews Scott Hesse (Anne) and Greg Hesse (Trish); Brent (CJ) and Marc 
Getty (Angela) and niece, Lynne Getty.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 3rd, 2022, at 3:00 PM

James Eugene “Jim” Rogers, 77, was born in Reno, Nevada on September 8, 
1944 to H.E. Rogers and Anogene (Mumm) Rogers. He departed this life on 
May 30, 2022 in North Platte, NE after a hard fought battle with cancer,
 he had his girls by his side.
 He attended Rexford School District graduating in 1962. He then 
attended training in Denver, CO for Automotive Training, he worked in 
Oberlin for Reliance Motor Company, which he loved. He also owned his 
own Mechanic Shop for a number of years, working with his brother for 
the last part of his working years.
 He was drafted into the United States Army in 1966, he served in the
 Vietnam War as a helicopter gunner and a heavy wheeled mechanic with 
the 161st Helicopter Assault Company. He was very proud of his service 
and his Country. Receiving the Quilt of Valor in 2017.
 He met and married Jeannine Brown in April of 1969, to this union 2 girls were born, later divorcing in 1980. 
 Over the years Jim spent his time raising cattle, which he loved, 
restoring antique tractors and entering them into many parades with his 
dad and brother, throughout the state. He was very proud of them and 
loved showing them off and talking about them! 
 He served as the “family historian” he knew almost everything about 
the family. If anyone had a question, he would be the one to ask! He 
was very proud of his roots and where he came from.
 Left to mourn his passing and honor his memory are his loving 
daughters: Michelle (Todd) Gutschenritter, Shawna (Johnny) Naranjo; 
sister: Eileen (Harold) Murphy; brother: Steve (Judy) Rogers; 
grandchildren: Kendal, Jake, Levi and Regan; nephews: Chris Murphy, Dan 
Rogers; niece: Kari Moore and their families. He also leaves behind 
many aunts, uncles, cousins that were more like siblings. He had many 
friends and care givers at the Sheridan County Long Term Care facility

Caroline Maxine Manis

George Ruzicka was born February 1, 1933, in rural Decatur County to Joe 
and Emma Hruska Ruzicka. He passed away at Decatur Health hospital on 
May 27, 2022, at the age of 89.
 George grew up on the farm and graduated from Decatur Community High
 School with the class of 1951. He married Willa Jean Synder on March 
10, 1956, in Colorado Springs, CO. They moved to the farm Southeast of 
Oberlin. They had four children. He farmed and worked on the oil rigs, 
then started at the Decatur County Road and Bridges, where he retired in
 2002 at the age of 70. He continued to work for the Jennings Township 
until he was 85 years old when he had to give up working the road grader
 and mowing. 
 George loved to hunt, fish, and go to all kinds of animal sales and 
auctions where he brought many “treasures”. He enjoyed to garden and 
took pride in his veggies and watermelons; he loved going to the 
farmer’s market. He loved his family and friends and always enjoyed 
visiting with everyone. 
 George is the oldest Ruzicka to be buried in the Big Timber Cemetery, he was also the longest living Ruzicka to live to date. 
 George was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Erma; wife, 
Willa Jean Synder; sons, Dennis, Doyle, and Darrel; daughter, Georganne 
Johnson; brother, Premysl “Bud” Ruzicka, and sister, Violet Myers.

He is
 survived by his daughter-in-law, Nancy Vath of Oberlin, KS; son-in-law,
 Greg Johnson of Tok, AK; grandchildren, Derek (Madelyn) Morel of Las

Leila Jean Stevens passed away Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Smith 
County Health &amp; Rehab in Smith Center, KS at the age of 88.&nbsp; She was
 born August 9, 1933, in Winfield, KS, the daughter of Russell and Edith 
(King) Reisinger.

The family lived in Winfield until Jean was 12.&nbsp; They then moved to Kansas City where she graduated from Northeast High School.

In 1951, she was united in marriage to Walter Wells and to this union 3 daughters were born.&nbsp; The couple later divorced.&nbsp;

She then met and married Warren Stevens in 1964.&nbsp; To this union a son &amp; daughter were born.

The couple lived in Albuquerque, NM for several years where she 
worked as a secretary.&nbsp; They then moved back to Phillipsburg to help 
care for Warren’s mother.&nbsp;

Jean enjoyed doing word search puzzles and was a Hospice volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren, her 
sister, Lorene Higgs, granddaughter, Danielle Brown &amp; great 
grandson, Mark William Aaron.

Survivors include her son Jerry of Amarillo, TX; her daughters: 
Brenda Younts of Phillipsburg, Bonnie Wells of Leadville, CO, Kristine 
Kersh of Denver, CO, Vanessa Montoya of Albuquerque, NM; her 
step-daughter, Shirley McNew of Texas; her brother, Wesley Reisinger of 
Valley Center, KS; 18 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren &amp; 3

Marion Lavonne Reeder,&nbsp;age&nbsp;91,&nbsp;passed away on&nbsp;Tuesday, May&nbsp;31, 2022,&nbsp;in Springfield, Missouri.&nbsp;She was born February 15, 1931, in Hill City, Kansas, to Clark and Jessie (Wallace) Pierson.&nbsp;

Lavonne graduated from Salina High School in 1949 and attended Kansas Wesleyan.&nbsp;She married Carl&nbsp;Reeder on October 8, 1950, in Salina, Kansas&nbsp;and they moved to the WaKeeney area shortly thereafter.&nbsp;He preceded her in death September 12, 1978.&nbsp;

Music was a big part of&nbsp;Lavonne’s&nbsp;life.&nbsp;She sang many solos and duets in church and for weddings and funerals.&nbsp;She directed both the children's and adult church choirs&nbsp;for the Methodist Church, the latter for over 50 years. Lavonne was a member of the First United Methodist Church, participated in Harmony Club and EHU, was a former board member of Keeney Village and the Senior Center,&nbsp;former co-director of the Trego County Food Pantry,&nbsp;and&nbsp;crusade chairperson and former president of the Trego County Cancer unit,&nbsp;all in WaKeeney.

Survivors include four daughters, Cheri Watson and husband Gary, Springfield, MO; Joleen Nimz and husband Mark, WaKeeney, KS; Jeanine Welli and husband Mike, Wichita, KS; and Rhonda York and husband Dave, Leavenworth, KS; a sister, Ilene Jones, Springfield, MO; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband,&nbsp;and son,&nbsp;Darryl Reeder.

Martin "Marty/Mark" Yunker Jr., 71, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022.&nbsp; Marty was born in Salina, Kansas, on September 20, 1950, to Lydia (Staab) and Martin Yunker Sr.&nbsp; Marty is best remembered for his kind and generous heart, his ingenuity, and his love of history.&nbsp; He was a loyal friend and shared his love of life, humor, and hospitality with all who knew him.

After graduating from Hays High School, Marty enlisted in the National Guard, serving in the Russell Maintenance Company until his honorable discharge in 1976. Marty was a machinist by trade, skilled in fabrication. He worked for Texas Instruments and several local machine shops before joining Colorado Springs Utilities. After thirty years, he retired from the Colorado Springs Utilities Weld/Machine shop in 2017.&nbsp; He is remembered by his friends and coworkers for his problem solving and innovation.&nbsp;

Marty had a love of the outdoors, hunting, and firearms.&nbsp; Marty could be found roving the local gun shows visiting with the exhibitors and was a walking encyclopedia on the history and value of firearms. He was active in the Colorado Wildlife Hunter's Education program instructing over 15,000 students.&nbsp; Students loved his stories. He was recognized in 1998, 2001, 2003, and 2005 as Colorado Instructor of the year.&nbsp; And in 2013, he was recognized as Mentor for Hunter Education Instructors.&nbsp; He was a certified Range Safety Officer.&nbsp; Marty especially enjoyed working with kids/young adults.&nbsp; He volunteered teaching outdoor skills to Young Marines, Boy Scouts, and 4-H students. Survival and safety were two skills he always emphasized.&nbsp; He was recognized in 2008 with the President's Volunteer Service Award.

Marty was an adventurer and enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed Canyonlands in Utah and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. After retirement, he made two trips to visit friends in Brazil. He often supported charities and was an active supporter of less fortunate families in Brazil.

Marty married Karen (Weis) Yunker on May 27, 1972. They were celebrating 50 years of marriage in May.&nbsp; In 1977, they followed their dream to live in Colorado.&nbsp; Weekends were spent exploring Colorado and summer vacations were spent camping.&nbsp; His two children and grandchildren were the center of his life. He loved sharing in their lives. He enjoyed having nephews visit for summer barbecues and holiday meals.

Marty is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Amy Roberts (John), and Son, Shaun Yunker (Jaime) of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda Roberts; brothers Robert Yunker (Salina, Kansas), Chuck Yunker (Tecumseh, Kansas), James and Shirley Yunker (Hays, Kansas), Daniel and Joan Yunker (Andover, Kansas);&nbsp; sisters Mary Alice Weed (Salina, Kansas) and Janice Koshiol (Hays, Kansas); and&nbsp; sister-in-law Lois Yunker (Munjor, Kansas).

Left also to cherish his memory are brothers and sisters-in-laws John and Carol Weis (Schoenchen, Kansas) and Cindy Weis and Jon (Durham, North Carolina) Mark and Carol Richmeier (Norton, Kansas), Michael and Emma Weis (Akron, Colorado), Linda Pope (Hoxie, Kansas), Leon Weis (Hoxie, Kansas), and Brian and Josie Weis (Colby, Kansas).

Marty is preceded in death by his father and mother, Martin Sr. and Lydia; in laws, Hermine and Leo Weis; Brothers Thomas and David Yunker; Brothers-in-law, Russ Pope, David Weed, and Patrick Koshiol; Sisters-in-law, Charlene Vinquist, Mary Weis, and Kathy Yunker; nephew, Matthew Yunker; and friend and mentor, Harlan Day.

Visitation and rosary will be held 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, May 30, at Dove-Witt funeral home in Fountain, Colorado.

Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 am, Tuesday, May 31, at St. Dominic Church, Security, Colorado.

He was recognized in 1998, 2001, 2003, and 2005 as Colorado Instructor of the year.&nbsp; And in 2013, he was recognized as Mentor for Hunter Education Instructors.&nbsp; He was a certified Range Safety Officer.&nbsp; Marty especially enjoyed working with kids/young adults.&nbsp; He volunteered teaching outdoor skills to Young Marines, Boy Scouts, and 4-H students. Survival and safety were two skills he always emphasized.&nbsp; He was recognized in 2008 with the President's Volunteer Service Award.Marty was an adventurer and enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed Canyonlands in Utah and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. After retirement, he made two trips to visit friends in Brazil. He often supported charities and was an active supporter of less fortunate families in Brazil.Marty married Karen (Weis) Yunker on May 27, 1972. They were celebrating 50 years of marriage in May.&nbsp; In 1977, they followed their dream to live in Colorado.&nbsp; Weekends were spent exploring Colorado and summer vacations were spent camping.&nbsp; His two children and grandchildren were the center of his life. He loved sharing in their lives. graduated from Great Bend High School in 1949.&nbsp; She worked as a

 Goodland in 2004 to live with her niece Helen Elliott.&nbsp; She was a

Dale Charles Kratochvil, 87, of Greeley 
passed away in his home on Thursday, May 26, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Hays,
 Kansas, to Adolph and Carrie Kratochvil on December 23, 1934.&nbsp;

He moved with his family to Topeka, 
Kansas, while he was in elementary school.&nbsp; It was fascinating for him to
 travel to Topeka on the train as his family didn’t have a car.

Dale graduated from Topeka High School in
 1952.&nbsp; He worked at WIBW Radio and TV while attending classes at 
Washburn University, Topeka.&nbsp; He graduated with an accounting degree in 
1963.&nbsp; He continued working at WIBW TV in the accounting department and 
as a Master Control Engineer.

On August 8, 1965, Dale married Delores 
Roller in Holton, Kansas.&nbsp; They lived in Topeka and later, Kansas City 
before moving to Greeley in March 1974.&nbsp; As a member of the First United
 Methodist Church in Greeley, he served on the finance committee for 
several years.

Most important in Dale’s life was his 
family.&nbsp; Through the years, he enjoyed many family get-togethers, trips 
to the mountains and attending various events and activities for his 
children and grandchildren.&nbsp; He was also an avid reader and watched a 
variety of sports on TV.&nbsp; Gardening and yardwork were the perfect 
balance for his job as an accountant.&nbsp; His kindness, devotion and sense 
of humor will be remembered by all.

Thankful to have shared his life are his 
wife, Delores (Dee); daughter, Janice Gibson (Greg); son, Brian 
Kratochvil, son Keith Kratochvil (Linda); sister, Carolyn Fitzgerald 
(Jim); grandchildren, Evan Kratochvil (Grace), Leah Gibson, Avery, 
Hayden, and Griffin Kratochvil.

Betty Irene (Bradley) Hendershot passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022. Betty was born in Quinter, KS to Charles “Buck” and Ruby (Galloway) Bradley on July 16, 1929.

Betty graduated from Trego County High School in WaKeeney, KS. She married Donni<a></a>e Riedell and had two sons, Jim and Chuck. They both preceded her in death. Betty and Don were divorced and she later married Roger Hendershot. To this union, Roger and Betty had three girls, Colleen (Richard) Wolf,&nbsp;Larned; Tracey (Terry) Berry, WaKeeney; and Ginny Parker (Randy Schmitt), Hutchinson.

Betty was a homemaker all of her life and as Roger would sometimes say “could make a pound of hamburger, feed a family of seven”, and none of us ever went hungry. Betty also liked to knit for family and friends, displaying very intricate colorwork in her knitting skills. She also liked to garden and can, and taught her children to do the same.

Betty is survived by her three daughters, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Roger, sons Jim and Chuck Riedell, parents Charles and Ruby, brother Harold Bradley, and sister Maxine Hacker.

Judith Smith Ogle was born on September 4, 1942, and went to be with 
the Lord on May 28, 2022, at the age of 79, at Victorian Gardens&nbsp;in 
Eureka, Missouri. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Judy, the daughter of Dan and Pauline (Welch) Smith, was raised on a 
farm near Pawnee Rock, Kansas, and was a 1960 graduate of Pawnee Rock 
High School.&nbsp;

After high school graduation, Judy was a telephone operator in Great 
Bend, Kansas, and a stay-at-home mom while her children were small.&nbsp; 
After moving to Missouri, she was an owner and operator of a Dairy 
Queen; an Administrative Assistant at an accounting firm; and an 
Assistant Administrator at Pension Administrators &amp; Consultants 
where she remained until her retirement.&nbsp;

Judy married Dan Ogle; they later divorced.&nbsp; This marriage was 
blessed with three children:&nbsp; Joe, Scott and Krista.&nbsp; She is survived by
 her daughter, Krista Ogle Rezek (Joe); daughter-in-law, Sandi Ogle; two
 grandsons, Erik Ogle and Ryan Ogle; sister, Marilyn Haynes (Chuck Sr.);
 nieces Kim Heath (Dan) and Kelly Dahl; and nephew Chuck Haynes Jr. 
(Dana); and many other cherished relatives and friends.&nbsp; She was 
preceded by her parents, her two sons—Joe and Scott Ogle; and a 
great-niece, Kaitlyn Dahl.

Judy was a life-long member of the New Jerusalem Church in Pawnee 
Rock and the Church of the Open Word in St. Louis, Missouri, where she 
served on the board for many years.&nbsp; She also volunteered her service to
 Rainbow Village, a charity that enhances the lives of individuals with 
developmental disabilities; and was a member of the Eureka Missouri 
Historical Society.&nbsp; Judy’s hobbies were taking pictures, family 
genealogy and she was an avid baker with friends and family frequently 
requesting their favorite dessert.&nbsp;

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 31, at Kutis Funeral Home 
in St. Louis, Missouri, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with service 
following at 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, 
June 4, at Great Bend Cemetery in Great Bend, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m., 
with Vivan Bright presiding.

Steven J. Thomas

Michael Eric Neiman, 60, died May 29, 2022, at his home in 
Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born August 24, 1961, in Bad Axe, Michigan, 
the son of Wilbert “Willie” and June (Toner) Neiman.

A Barton County resident since the early 1980s, Michael was a truck 
driver, with over a million miles on his record, and a diesel mechanic.&nbsp;
 He worked for R&amp;S Repair, Firemaster, and most recently Outlaw Tank
 Service.

Michael was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in 
Bad Axe, Michigan.&nbsp; He loved showing horses in his younger days with his
 father (who was especially proud of this hobby), mother, and brothers 
for 12 years and was an avid hunter. Family was the most important thing
 to him and their home was the hangout, where he would be known to be 
“burning up food” or grilling and was reknowned for his caveman potatoes
 and beans.&nbsp; His 12 grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was 
affectionately known to them as Papa Bear.

On March 22, 2008, he married Karla J. Roat in Chase, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on November 6, 2019.

He is survived by his children; Rachel Dove and husband Trent, and 
Michael J. Neiman and wife Alicia, all of Great Bend, and Jesse Roat and
 fiancee Brittany Van Scyoc and Kayla Godfrey and husband James, all of 
Hoisington; parents, Willie and June Neiman of Geneseo; brothers, Mark 
Neiman and wife Connie of Cass City, Michigan and Rick Neiman and wife 
Nancy of Harbor Beach, Michigan; grandchildren, Justin Dennis, Brayden 
and Treyton Dove, Matthew, Andrew, and Zachary Neiman, Preston, Adley, 
and Ryland Roat, and Klara, Jayda, and Jensen Godfrey; and his fur 
babies, Sadie, Twinkie, and Bella.

He was preceded in death by his wife Karla Neiman; nephew, Mark Neiman, Jr.; and their beloved dogs, Darby, Nora, and Fancy.

There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

Friends may sign the book prior to the service, with the family 
greeting guests starting at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the

the son of Wilbert “Willie” and June (Toner) Neiman.A Barton County resident since the early 1980s, Michael was a truck 
driver, with over a million miles on his record, and a diesel mechanic.&nbsp;
 He worked for R&amp;S Repair, Firemaster, and most recently Outlaw Tank
 Service.Michael was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in 
Bad Axe, Michigan.&nbsp; He loved showing horses in his younger days with his
 father (who was especially proud of this hobby), mother, and brothers 
for 12 years and was an avid hunter. Family was the most important thing
 to him and their home was the hangout, where he would be known to be 
“burning up food” or grilling and was reknowned for his caveman potatoes
 and beans.&nbsp; His 12 grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was 
affectionately known to them as Papa Bear.On March 22, 2008, he married Karla J. Roat in Chase, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on November 6, 2019.He is survived by his children; Rachel Dove and husband Trent, and 
Michael J. Neiman and wife Alicia, all of Great Bend, and Jesse Roat and
 fiancee Brittany Van Scyoc and Kayla Godfrey and husband James, all of 
Hoisington; parents, Willie and June Neiman of Geneseo; brothers, Mark 
Neiman and wife Connie of Cass City, Michigan and Rick Neiman and wife 
Nancy of Harbor Beach, Michigan; grandchildren, Justin Dennis, Brayden 
and Treyton Dove, Matthew, Andrew, and Zachary Neiman, Preston, Adley, 
and Ryland Roat, and Klara, Jayda, and Jensen Godfrey; and his fur 
babies, Sadie, Twinkie, and Bella.He was preceded in death by his wife Karla Neiman; nephew, Mark Neiman, Jr.; and their beloved dogs, Darby, Nora, and Fancy.There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.Friends may sign the book prior to the service, with the family

Della Nora Deatherage, 88, passed away Tuesday, May 
24, 2022.&nbsp; On February 20, 1934, Della took her first breath as the 
daughter of Albina and Miles Lantz.&nbsp; She was the tenth of eleven 
children.

Della grew up to be the Rodeo Queen of Sylvan Grove, KS and graduated
 from Sylvan Grove High School in 1952. She then worked at the Tower 
Café in Russell, KS where she met Donald, her lifelong partner of 66 
years. They moved around chasing oil wells and ended up in Salina with 
three kids in tow.&nbsp; Della became manager for Gibson’s Hardware on 
Broadway. She started injecting and spraying trees which developed into 
Greenburst Lawns where she never stopped working.

She loved to go to bingo and the casino when she could and also loved
 shopping and auctions. She had her dogs to keep her company when her 
husband and daughter passed. I think the memories got the best of her 
and in the early hours on May 24th she took her last breath and left us 
peacefully.

Della was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Deatherage; daughter, Cheryl Deatherage; and all her siblings.

She is survived by her sons, Don Ray and Edward Dean; three 
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and
 friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at First Christian Church.

Lloyd Henry Gemaehlich “Shorts” was born December 20, 1931, in Akron, 
Colorado, to William and Mary (Grauerholz) Gemaehlich.  He passed away on
 May 30, 2022, at the age of 90 at Smith County Memorial Hospital. 

He 
was confirmed at St John’s Lutheran Church on March 25, 1945. Lloyd 
attended and graduated from Kensington High School in 1949. He enlisted
 in the U.S. Army in April 1952 and served during the Korean War in 
Alaska until discharge in 1954. Lloyd was united in marriage to 
Margaret J Malik on August 4, 1957. He worked at the grain elevator in 
Scott City for many years. While living in Hays worked at the DMV until
 he retired and they relocated to Estes Park, where he was employed part
 time at the YMCA. 
 Preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret J, sisters Leona 
(Reinhardt) Kuhlmann, Clara (Vernon) Beckmann, brothers LeRoy (Margaret 
C) and Kenneth Gemaehlich. 
 Survivors are son Donald Gemaehlich of Chandler, AZ and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.&nbsp;

Erica Joan Murphy, age 42, of Oakley, passed away May 29, 2022, at Logan
 County Hospital from a 14-month fight with cancer, with her loving 
family at her side. On March 19, 1980, she was born in Eureka, KS to 
Jack and Carol (Lumley) Deniston. She was a graduate of Scott Community 
High School in Scott City KS, she attended Colby Community College where
 she studied to be a vet tech. She was a member of the Oakley Christian 
Church in Oakley, KS. 
Erica was united in marriage to the love of her life, Michael James Murphy on June 19, 2020. 
Erica worked for Dr. Bowers, veterinarian, in Colby; Loves, in Colby; as
 a para for the school system in Oakley, as a CNA, and a Certified 
Medical coder for Logan County Health Services and her most recent job 
as a Certified coder for Logan County Hospital in Oakley. 
Erica enjoyed the outdoors. She loved to play softball each summer. 
Hunting was the highlight of her winter activities and fishing was the 
thing she enjoyed most in the summer. She and Mike could sit on the boat
 on a lake from sunup to dark fishing. Most days they would catch their 
limit. 
Erica loved gardening and canning the vegetables she grew. She also 
raised goats. On her birthday in 2021, one of her expectant mamma goats 
was sick and about to die, which would have caused the unborn baby goats
 to die. With the help of a vet over the phone, she was able to do a 
C-section and deliver three small but healthy baby goats that she named 
Three, Nineteen, and Eighty, her birthdate. 
She loved all animals. Malaika, a german shepherd, was one of her 
favorite dogs, though she has long since passed. Last year, Erica needed
 a support animal to help her get through cancer. She got Todd and he 
gave her so much joy. 
She loved her house plants and she had several in her office at work. She even managed to grow an avocado tree from a seed. 
As the children, Chloe, Jakob, Taylor, and Wyatt grew up, Erica and Mike
 spent a lot of time attending their activities such as Cross Country, 
Forensics, Choir, Football, and Wrestling. She loved her kids and was 
very proud of them. She also enjoyed her grandchildren, Paxton, Aviah, 
Theodore, and Jonah. 
Her loving family includes her parents, Jack and Carol Deniston; 
husband, Mike; sister, Elise, and niece Hayla Edwards; daughter, Chloe 
Bley; son Jakob Bley; stepsons, Taylor Murphy (Nikki) and Wyatt Murphy 
(Baylee); second daughter Avery Evins; and grandchildren, Paxton, Aviah,

 W. Marlett Jr., 73, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on 
Friday, May 27, 2022, surrounded by family at Wesley Medical Center, 
Wichita.&nbsp; He was a master machinist at Midwest Industries. &nbsp;He also was a
 master gunsmith, and in his younger years, he worked at his father’s 
A&amp;W Restaurants in Hays, McPherson and Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; John 
served in the United States Army Reserve.

He
 was born on March 16, 1949, in Larned, KS, the son of John William 
Marlett, Sr. and Betty Janiel (Brack) Marlett.&nbsp; He graduated from Hays 
High School and attended Salina Vo-Tech.&nbsp; On June 7, 1968, John was 
united in marriage to Joyce A. “Jo” Shearhart in Hays, KS.&nbsp; 

John was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors
 include: his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Jo of the home; sons, John
 Marlett, III (Nicole) of McPherson, KS, Michael Marlett of Council
