Freda Bell Sutton, age 95, of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, was born on June 21st, 1926, in Liberal, Kansas, to James M. Lewis and Jesse E. (Cone) Lewis.&nbsp; She was number 8 in line of 10 children and by the time she was born her parents were letting the older siblings name the younger ones, one of her older brothers happened to have a girlfriend named Freda. She was the first to be born in a hospital because she was born near wheat harvest and her farmer father didn’t have time to tend to her mother.

She grew up on a farm in the Oklahoma panhandle, in the Baker community on land that had been in the Lewis family.&nbsp; She lived in that home until she married then returned to it later to raise her family there for a time.&nbsp; When she was 4 years old, she wanted to go to town with her dad, but he said no.&nbsp; Determined to go anyway, she squatted on her knees on the running boards of his 1928 Nash and rode 20 miles to Liberal because she was wanting new shoes and some candy.&nbsp; She did get candy, a dad that collapsed and had to go to the hospital and a headline in the Wichita Beacon Newspaper.

On July 4, 1943, she told her parents she was going to a rodeo but instead eloped to Tucumcari, New Mexico, to marry the love of her life, Robert Lee Sutton.&nbsp; He passed away on October 1st, 2001, after 58 years of marriage. This union was blessed with 3 children: Geraldine (Delvin-deceased) Simmons; Margaret (Jerry) Barlow; Lonnie Sutton. One of her greatest joys was her family especially her 7 grandchildren: Tamie Simmons-deceased; Barry (Leslie) Barlow; Stacey (Debbie) Simmons; Jera Chovanec; Brady (Denise) Barlow; Shannon (Shawn) Henderson; Amanda (Corey) Uhl.&nbsp; Her pride and joy were her Great Grandchildren: Tyler (Caitlin) Simmons; Gabe Addington; Trever Simmons; Joey (Kaylie) Addington;&nbsp; Haupe (Derrick) Lanham; Caleb (Danica) Uhl; Ryanne Henderson; Preston (Corinne) Chovanec; Colten Uhl; Reese (Kayli) Chovanec; Bailey Barlow; Mackinzie Simmons; Cade Uhl; Bode Barlow; Elise Barlow; Rhett Barlow; Addison Barlow. She was also proud to have 11 GREAT-GREAT Grandchildren. She has one surviving sibling, Helen Parnell, her daily “words with friends” buddy on the internet.

Freda spent her life involved with her family’s activities; she had even attended ballgames of some of the great-great grandchildren.&nbsp; She was her family’s biggest supporter.&nbsp; She spent her life being a homemaker and there was never a white glove test that her house couldn’t pass.&nbsp; She was an amazing cook and is famous in the family for her hot rolls, chicken and homemade noodles, enchiladas and chocolate pies.&nbsp; Freda would be known to spend the morning cooking for the harvest hands and the afternoon hauling grain to the elevator, working just as long and as hard as the men. She was the master of crossword puzzles and could beat anyone at the Wheel of Fortune. Freda had a green thumb unlike any other.&nbsp; She could grow flowers anywhere, in fact, one year a volunteer petunia grew in the crack of her driveway to prove that fact.&nbsp; She was the Queen of cards, and she taught her grandchildren and most of her great-grandchildren to play spades. She never sat still for very long (unless she had her ipad in hand) even well into her 90s. She had a quick wit and was still cracking jokes on the day she passed.

Freda leaves behind a legacy of love.&nbsp; She was the cornerstone of her family and gave an abundance of unconditional love.&nbsp; She has shaped many lives/families by her example and will be forever missed.

Graveside services will be held in Oklahoma at a later date.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to&nbsp;Ellsworth County Medical Center, in care of the Funeral Chapel.

Allen A. Lehmann, 77, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS. 
 Allen was born December 31, 1944, in Smith Center, KS, the son of 
Alvin Reinhold Wilhelm and Alma Von (Frieling) Lehmann.&nbsp; On August 17, 
1969, he married Gladys O'Connor at St. John Lutheran Church, Athol, 
KS.&nbsp; Allen was a United States Army Veteran serving from June 22, 1967,&nbsp;
 to January 24, 1969, when he was honorably discharged. &nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 
member of American Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1141 and Smith Center 
Country Golf Club all of Smith Center, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Irene Meyer, Thadene Haas, and Lavern Meyer. 
 Allen is survived by his wife Gladys Lehmann of Smith Center; a son, 
Todd (Amy) Lehmann of Woodinville, WA; two sisters, Wilma (Denis) Sweat 
and June Homan, and two grandchildren. A celebration of 
Allen's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at All
 Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS.&nbsp; There 
will not be a public visitation as cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Inurnment will
 take place in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS.&nbsp; Memorials may be 
given to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral

Carol Jean Wood, 74, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Carol was born on October 2, 1947, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of John and Marge (Henn) Johnson. &nbsp;She grew up in Hays and graduated from Hays High School. &nbsp;After high school she attended Ft. Hays University where she met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Gale Ray Wood on June 3, 1967, in&nbsp;Ellis, Kansas. &nbsp;From this union Carol and Gale were blessed with two children a son Kelly and daughter Cindy. &nbsp;The family lived in several towns in Kansas and eventually moved closer to home and moved to Russell in 2000. &nbsp;She was a very artistic person and&nbsp;enjoyed working with various crafts, scrap booking photo albums and cake decorating. &nbsp;She also enjoyed sewing and making clothes for her children and her&nbsp;daughters&nbsp;dolls. &nbsp;Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving family include her daughter Cindy Jury and husband Rod of Russell, Kansas; brothers Tom Johnson and wife Joyce of Hays, Kansas; sisters Leigh&nbsp;Mabb&nbsp;and husband Gary of Ellis County, Kansas, Becki Johnson&nbsp;of&nbsp;St. Paul, Nebraska&nbsp;and Chris Dietz and husband Perry of Ellis County, Kansas; granddaughter Sadie Wood and husband Bobby Elliott of Russell, Kansas and great grandchildren Ronan Elliott and Hayden Ruiz. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gale on November 04, 2020&nbsp;and son Kelly Ray Wood.

Cremation has been selected by the family.&nbsp;A&nbsp;memorial service&nbsp;to celebrate Carol’s life will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday,&nbsp;May 13, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;Family will greet guests the day of the service. &nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Rowena Arlene Sheraden, 90, passed away May 6, 2022, at County Living Memory Care in Larned.

She was born September 17, 1931, in Larned, the daughter of Charles and Lillian Clark Dipman.

Returning to the area from Wichita in 2015, she was of the Christian 
Faith. She worked as a secretary for Midland Supply and was also a 
school teacher.

On September 30, 1961, Robert Sheraden in Larned; he preceded her in death on October 8, 2015.

Survivors include two brothers, Damon Dipman, Holly, Colorado, and Allen (Mary) Dipman, Larned.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Donald Dipman.

Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Larned
 Cemetery with Pastor Daryl Riffel presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 
a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial 
will be in the Larned Cemetery.

Robert L. Stockton was born December 24, 1940, to Leo B. and Neva 
Billings Stockton. He was born in Smith Center, KS and lived in the 
Kensington area for his entire life. He attended Hardilee Rural School, 
Kensington Grade School, and graduated from Kensington High School in 
1958. He attended Fort Hays State University and served in Kansas 
National Guard.
 On June 4, 1961, he married Margaret Rayburn Gilliland in 
Phillipsburg. Their daughter Katherine Ann (“Anne”) was born December 
26, 1965. Sadly she preceded her parents in death in June 1985 at the 
age of nineteen. Margaret passed away October 13, 2009.
 Bob and Margaret were very involved with Anne’s sports and 
activities. They were always very supportive of Anne’s friends and all 
youth in the community.
 Bob was a farmer his entire life. He was a very creative person. He 
could build and fix anything. His projects included beautiful furniture,
 working on farm equipment, doing carpentry and many other things. At 
one point, he built a train from barrels for the children of the 
Kensington community. He loved antique cars and would often participate 
in local parades and car shows. Restoring antique cars was a hobby of 
his.
 Bob is survived by his Sisters, Shirley Powell and Sharlene (John) 
Sampson, Nephews Mike (Ramona) Powell and Gary (Wendy) Powell and Niece 
Sharlyn (Chris) DeWeese. Many members of the Gilliland Family also 
survive him. Bob is survived by his dear dear friends Annette and Tim 
Riley. The Family wants to thank the Rileys (Annette, Tim) and Sherry 
Newbrey for all they have done as friends and caretakers. He was also 
preceded in death by his parents, Infant brother Kenneth (1936), 
Margaret’s parents Edwin and Florence (Dixon) Gilliland, Brother-in- Law
 Jack Powell and many members of the Gilliland Family. Many cousins who 
were dearly loved.

Robert L. Stockton

Charles O. Stones, 96, died Sunday, May 8, 2022, at St. Catherine 
Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born February 25, 1926, on the 
family farm in Smith County, Kansas, the son of Glen &amp; Henrietta 
(Steward) Stones. 
 Charles started teaching in one-room country schools in Smith 
County right out of Lebanon High School with a “Normal Training” 
background. After many summer schools and correspondence courses at 
Fort Hays State University, Charles earned a Bachelor’s degree and a 
Master’s degree in Education. On May 1, 1949, he married Ardith Nadine 
Craig in McDonald, Kansas. They lived in Bird City, Ks., St. John, Ks.,
 and Hugoton, Ks., before moving to Garden City in 1973. They have 
lived in Garden City since. Charles taught school while living in Bird 
City. He became Elementary Principal in St. John and Hugoton. Charles 
then went on to become Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for 
Garden City Public Schools until his retirement on June 29, 1991. He 
also served 1 year as Interim Superintendent for USD #457 in Garden 
City. The Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center in Garden City is a 
tribute to his contribution to the education of students in the Garden 
City district. 
 Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden
 City where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member 
of the Builder’s Sunday School Class, Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo, the
 Finney County Library, Western Kansas Community Foundation, the Masonic
 Lodge, and served for many years as a director of Peoples State Bank of
 McDonald, Colby, and Manhattan. He loved to spend his time collecting 
bells, gardening, bird watching, and spending time with his children, 
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 
 Survivors include two daughters Judy &amp; husband Rich Steinbrink 
of Garden City and Gaynelle Beasley of Garden City; a brother Harold 
&amp; wife Patty Stones of Topeka, Kansas; four grandchildren Brynn 
&amp; husband Jim Shellenberger, Melissa &amp; husband Alex Stofer, 
Mekayla &amp; Husband Dustin Petrus, &amp; Britny Sweeney; and six 
great-grandchildren Keely, Kambri, Kaia, Isaiah, Kolby, &amp; Brody. 
Charles is preceded in death by his wife Ardith who died on November 30,
 2021. He is also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Leatta 
Sue Stones; and two sons-in-law Donald Ridder and David Beasley. 
 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022,
 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City Rev. Joel Plisek

 </figure>Charles O. Stones, 96, died Sunday, May 8, 2022, at St. Catherine 
Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born February 25, 1926, on the 
family farm in Smith County, Kansas, the son of Glen &amp; Henrietta 
(Steward) Stones. 
 Charles started teaching in one-room country schools in Smith 
County right out of Lebanon High School with a “Normal Training” 
background. After many summer schools and correspondence courses at 
Fort Hays State University, Charles earned a Bachelor’s degree and a 
Master’s degree in Education. On May 1, 1949, he married Ardith Nadine 
Craig in McDonald, Kansas. They lived in Bird City, Ks., St. John, Ks.,
 and Hugoton, Ks., before moving to Garden City in 1973. They have 
lived in Garden City since. Charles taught school while living in Bird 
City. He became Elementary Principal in St. John and Hugoton. Charles 
then went on to become Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for 
Garden City Public Schools until his retirement on June 29, 1991. He 
also served 1 year as Interim Superintendent for USD #457 in Garden 
City. The Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center in Garden City is a 
tribute to his contribution to the education of students in the Garden 
City district. 
 Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden
 City where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member 
of the Builder’s Sunday School Class, Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo, the
 Finney County Library, Western Kansas Community Foundation, the Masonic
 Lodge, and served for many years as a director of Peoples State Bank of
 McDonald, Colby, and Manhattan. He loved to spend his time collecting 
bells, gardening, bird watching, and spending time with his children, 
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 
 Survivors include two daughters Judy &amp; husband Rich Steinbrink 
of Garden City and Gaynelle Beasley of Garden City; a brother Harold 
&amp; wife Patty Stones of Topeka, Kansas; four grandchildren Brynn 
&amp; husband Jim Shellenberger, Melissa &amp; husband Alex Stofer, 
Mekayla &amp; Husband Dustin Petrus, &amp; Britny Sweeney; and six 
great-grandchildren Keely, Kambri, Kaia, Isaiah, Kolby, &amp; Brody. 
Charles is preceded in death by his wife Ardith who died on November 30,
 2021. He is also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Leatta 
Sue Stones; and two sons-in-law Donald Ridder and David Beasley. 
 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022,
 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City Rev. Joel Plisek

Charles O. Stones

Gary Leroy Butler was born May 19th, 1940, to James and Madeline Butler in Chadron, NE. When he was only five years old, his mother passed away and he went to live with his paternal grandparents, T.J. and Grace Butler in Chadron, Nebraska. Gary grew up working in their large garden with his grandmother and grandfather. A trout stream ran through their farm, so Gary had an early start for his love of fishing.

Gary graduated from Chadron High School in 1958, where he was a star quarterback for the football team.

He joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1960-1964 before returning to Nebraska, where he worked and attended Chadron College. He received a Master's Degree in School Administration. He married Shirley Johnson, a young widow with three little boys.  Gary was a devoted father, raising Larry, Jerry and Gene along with the twins, Tim and Tara, who were born to his union with Shirley.

Gary loved sports, serving as a coach at the high school in Agra, Kansas, where he taught business classes in addition to his coaching duties. later he began his banking career. He began at the Farmers National Bank in Agra, preceded to Rocky Ford, Colorado, then moving to Milan, Missouri, and Savannah, Missouri. 

Gary married Wilma Gower in the Methodist Church in Agra December 16. 1979. They enjoyed 42 years together. After his retirement in January of 2001, Gary and Wilma moved to a rural home by Trimble, Missouri, near Smithville Lake, where he could indulge full time in his passion for fishing. They joined the Methodist Church in Paradise and were active members there. Gary also enjoyed playing pool and sharing food at the Senior Center in Smithville.

Gary passed away peacefully at his home on May 1, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; his sons Larry (Gail), Jerry, Gene (Danette), and Tim (Amy), and his daughter Tara. Other family members include eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, his brothers, Dale, Scott, Curt and Criss.

His memory will be cherished by his many friends and family members.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. in the West Cedar Cemetery with Rev. Rob Ernest officiating with Military Honors by the Agra American Legion.

Thomas Alfred Lewand Jr., age 82, of 
Ellis, Kansas passed away Friday, May 6, 2022, at Trego Lemke Memorial 
Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas. He was born May 10, 1939, in Denver, 
Colorado, to Thomas Alfred and Margaret (Youngster) Lewand. He graduated 
from Bethany college and earned a Masters from Fort Hays State 
University.

Thomas was a longtime music teacher 
having taught for 4 years at Kensington, 13 years at La Crosse and 3 
years at Sedgwick. After his teaching career Thomas worked as a 
salesclerk at Von Maur and Dillards. Thomas enjoyed antiques, musicals 
and especially operas.

He is survived by a son, Thomas “Tony” Lewand of Houston, Texas and a daughter, Tara Frey of Ellis.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel in Ellis.

Thomas Alfred Lewand Jr.

Randy L. Miller, 68, passed away May 7, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

He was born November 26, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Donald Richard Miller and Beatrice “Pat” Drill Stonebreaker.

A longtime area resident, he was an electrician at Larned State 
Hospital. He was in the United States Navy where he served on the 
submarine USS Patrick Henry. He was a member of the First United 
Methodist Church, Great Bend and he enjoyed square dancing and 
woodworking.

On May 19, 2007 he married Judith Nemechek McCune at Great Bend; she survives.

Other survivors include: his mother, Patricia Stonebreaker, Great 
Bend; two brothers, David John Miller, Omaha, Nebraska, Bernard “Bernie”
 Neil Miller, Boise, Idaho; sister, Patricia Wheeler, Albuquerque, New 
Mexico; step-daughter, Juliana (Max) Murphy, Manhattan, Kansas; 
step-son, Wayne Eberle, Largo, Florida; five step grandchildren, two 
step-great grandchildren, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and 
nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Richard Keith Miller.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Carol (Dyer) Blackwell was born on Sept 26, 1938, to Denny &amp; Fern Dyer in Lucas, KS.
 Carol went to all twelve grades at Lucas, KS graduating the class of
 1956. Following high school Carol joined the United States Air Force. 
She did her basic training at Lackland Air Base in San Antonio, TX. She 
studied in key punch. After basic she went to Kansas City to Richards 
Gebaur air base where she met her future husband Eugene E. Blackwell. 
They were married on Sept 28, 1958. They would have celebrated 50 years 
on Sept 28, 2008. Carol worked for the Air Force as a civilian.
 In 1963 Blackie had orders to go to Guam. They spent 2 years there. 
They came back and finished his service at Travis Air Base in 
California. Retiring there and moving back to the Kansas City area. 
Carol worked for the IRS in Kansas City.
 In 1974, the Blackwells purchased a home in Lucas. Blackie worked in 
Osborne &amp; Russell. Carol liked to cook and was a very good cook. 
They enjoyed living in Lucas. They opened Blackies Pub and ran it for a 
few years before selling it to Gene &amp; Linda Jepsen. Blackie passed 
away on April 16, 2008. Carol maintained their home there.
 Carol’s health started to decline in later years. She passed away on January 18, 2022.
 Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Blackie; 
sister Barbara; brothers Chester &amp; Billy; Sister in laws Ruby &amp; 
Joyce; her nephew Billy G Dyer Jr.
 She is survived by her sister Mary (Jim) Williamson, her nephews 
Mike, Denny, John, Jeff, and Jay. Numerous great &amp; great great 
nephews. Her nieces Marcia, Cathy, Becky, Terri, and Susan. Numerous 
great &amp; great nieces. She will be solely missed by all that knew 
her.

Freda Sutton

Ervin Otto Bohl was born September 14, 1922, in Phillips County, KS to 
Carl and Martha (Klotz) Bohl. He passed away May 6, 2022, at the Norton 
County Hospital at the age of 99.
 Ervin grew up in Phillips County and attended two rural schools. He 
loved mechanics, so in his late teens he went to work for Vogel 
Implement in Phillipsburg. Ervin married Gertrude L. Wodtke on Sept. 3, 
1946, in Norton. They lived in Phillips County from Sept. ’46 to Nov. ’47
 then they moved to the family farm west of Norton, where they farmed 
and raised their family. Ervin stayed active on the farm into his early 
90s because he truly loved the work. He was a member of the Immanuel 
Lutheran Church and then the Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in 
Norton, attending services until this last month. 
 Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Martha; wife, 
Gertrude in 2008; daughter-in-law, Cathy Bohl; brothers-in-law, Michael 
Preuss, George Seipp, and Rolland Vogel; and sisters-in-law, Mary Jo 
Wodtke and Irene (Ted) Friebus. He is survived by his children: Ivan 
(Pat) Bohl of Norton, KS, Twila Bohl of Topeka, KS, and Tim (Rose) Bohl 
of Oxford, NE; brother, Raymond (Gerline) Bohl of Phillipsburg, KS;

Ervin Otto Bohl

Phyllis Elaine Archer, 68, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away on April 
28th, 2022.&nbsp; Phyllis was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on March 13th, 1954.
 Phyllis graduated from Lamar High School and continued on to receive a 
business degree from Ottawa University.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Mike Archer on August 10th, 2011. 
They were married 10 years.&nbsp; Phyllis worked as a credit manager for the 
Garden City Co-op for 17 years and retired in 2019.&nbsp; Phyllis enjoyed 
cooking, crocheting, spending time with her grandchildren and great 
grandchildren, riding motorcycles, and spending time on the lake.

Phyllis is survived by Mike, her husband, her children Scot Orozco, 
Patty Cordoba-Marentes, Selyna Brown, Luie Orozco, &amp; Felip Orozco. 
18 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, and other family and 
friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by Her first husband Luiz

Phyllis E. Archer

Dennis Gene Kuhlmann Sr. passed away on May 7, 2022, in Wichita, KS, at
 the age of 73. He was born on February 16, 1949, to Clarence “Sam” and 
Geraldine (Prosser) Kuhlmann in Athol, KS. He married Sherry Mauck on 
September 20, 1968, in Hill City, KS. They were blessed with 5 children:
 Mark, Dennis, Danny, Mitchell, and Amanda.
 Dennis grew up and attended school in Athol, KS. After school, he 
joined the workforce in construction. After being drafted, he joined the
 U.S. Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1970. He worked at 
Schult Mobile Homes as a supervisor until he was injured. He was a 
member of VFW Post #8873. 
 Dennis enjoyed cars, fishing, woodworking, traveling, and family 
time; especially being a grandpa and getting to babysit his grandkids. 
He was a good-hearted man who enjoyed life and cherished his family and 
friends. He will be remembered in love.
 Dennis is survived by his wife, Sherry Kuhlmann of Stockton, KS; 
sons, Mark (Janet) Kuhlmann of Stockton, Dennis Jr. (Lisa) of Bonne 
Terre, MO, Danny (Natasha Riffel) Kuhlmann of Wichita, and Mitchell 
Kuhlmann of Stockton; daughter, Amanda (Chris) McNulty of Stockton; 
brothers, Bob (June) Kuhlmann of Osborne, KS and Larry (Pat) Kuhlmann of
 Stockton; sister-in-law, Karen Kuhlmann of Osborne; 16 grandchildren; 
and 9 great-grandchildren.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Geraldine Kuhlmann; and brothers, Jim Kuhlmann and infant Jackie Kuhlmann. 
 A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 10:30 AM 
at the United Methodist Church in Stockton. Burial to follow in the

Carroll James “Butch” Owens, age 76, passed away at the home in Park, Kansas, on Thursday, May 5, 2022. He was born in Quinter, Kansas, to John and Angelita (Weigel) Owens on May 29th, 1946.

Butch graduated from Quinter High School. He was United in marriage to Carolyn Rumback on September 2, 1967. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving in the Vietnam War. Butch worked as a farmer, retired form Oneok Gas company, and returned to farming until his death.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Tammy (Tommy) Rich of Kansas City, and Tanya (fiancé Phil&nbsp;Marciniak) of Paola; three grandchildren, Justin (Emily) Munden, Tara (Jason) Wandtke, and Jessica Owens of Olathe; and one great-grandchild Hudson.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at&nbsp;10:00&nbsp;AM on&nbsp;Friday, May&nbsp;13th, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, Kansas&nbsp;with Father James Thomas as celebrant. Burial will take place at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kansas, following the services.

Carroll James 'Butch' Owens

Frances A. Marrs, age 92, passed away early Saturday morning, May 7, 2022, in Fowler, Kansas.

She was born November 27, 1929, in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter 
of Forrest and Mary (Reekie) Trent. As a young girl, she attended school
 in Dodge City. Frances was the first of her family to finish high 
school, graduating from Dodge City High School in 1947.

On November 27, 1947, she married Ralph LeeRoy “Roy” Marrs in Dodge 
City. After their marriage, the couple made their home in rural Fowler, 
Kansas. A longtime Fowler resident, she was the secretary for Meade 
County Extension. At work, she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of both 
home economics and agriculture with Meade Co. residents. She continued 
on as the Meade Co. Fair Board secretary for many years post-retirement.

She was a member of the Fowler United Methodist Church, serving in 
many different capacities. She was also a 4-H leader for many years and 
held fond memories of all the 4-H members she worked with. As a couple, 
Roy and Frances enjoyed going out dancing in their spare time. She also 
enjoyed crocheting, needlework, cooking, gardening, cake decorating, and
 spending time with her family and friends. Frances was also an avid 
doll collector.

She is survived by two sons, Duke Marrs and wife Donna of rural 
Fowler, and Doug Marrs and wife Pat of Hays, Kansas; a daughter, Garalee
 “Lee” Roberts of Yukon, Oklahoma; a brother, Jesse (Shirley) Trent of 
Dodge City; eight grandchildren: Macara (Shawn) Jacobs, Brett (Amber) 
Marrs, Breanne (Tyrel) Nilhas, Bryce Marrs, Aaron (Audrey) Maxwell, Cody
 (Alli) Cottengim, Cheyenne (Steve) Federau, and Marshall Marrs, along 
with eighteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by young son, Forrest LeeRoy “Forry,” her husband Roy; her parents; and a brother, Jim Trent.

Viewing will take place on Wednesday at the funeral home with the 
family present from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 
held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman 
Mortuary, Meade, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Fowler Cemetery.

Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, Wichita.&nbsp; He was born February 8, 
1953, in Great Bend to Maurice Charles and B. Marie (Pfiefer) Schwartz.&nbsp;
 Danny married Stacy Stinemetz Nov. 17, 1979, in Great Bend.

Danny, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, owned and operated Mr. 
Burger and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War
 Era.&nbsp; He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and enjoyed time spent 
with family, never missing his children's and grandchildren's 
activities.

Survivors include his wife, Stacy of the home; four sons, Mitchell 
Schwartz and wife Kris of Otis, Chris Schwartz and wife Sarah of Great 
Bend, Joshua Schwartz of Hoisington, and Brett Schwartz and wife Allison

Daniel Maurice 'Danny' Schwartz

Ernestine F.  (Eilert) Mick was born January 18, 1923, in Osborne, Kansas, the third of nine children born to Ted and Leah Mick. She died Thursday, May 5, 2022, in Manhattan, Kansas, at the age of 99.

   She went to country grade school, and later graduated from Osborne High School in 1941. She worked at the Telephone Office in Salina for about a year before moving to California.

   She married Harold Eilert on January 14, 1943, in Ocean Beach, California. Ten children were born to this union. Harold had been drafted into the army and was stationed overseas, so Ernestine, who was with child, moved to Tipton, where she lived with her Grandma Kleeman. When Harold returned from war, they settled in a home on the west side of Beloit. In 1955, they were able to trade their home and some cash to buy a farm north of Beloit. While Harold farmed with his brother Paul, Ernestine ran a dairy business, selling milk by the gallon to customers from town. Harold passed away suddenly in 1969, and Ernestine sold the dairy cattle and moved back to town.

   In 1977, she married Frowin Mick and lived near Downs, helping him on the farm and raising lots of produce in her amazing, large garden. When Frowin died in 2002, she returned to Beloit, where she lived many years enjoying her church, volunteering, and playing cards and dominoes with her many friends and family.

   Faith and prayer have always been very important, and her family has been blessed by her saying many rosaries dedicated to any one in need of prayer.

   She moved to Manhattan in 2018 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, followed by time residing at the Resident Care Center in Beloit, then her final year back in Manhattan under the loving care of her daughter.

   Ernestine was a member of the St. John’s Ladies Guild, Legion of Mary, and the VFW Auxiliary. She also volunteered at the Hospital Gift Shop, Food Pantry, and led the rosary at the Resident Care Center for many years.

   In addition to her husbands, Harold and Frowin, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jim and Melvin; and her son-in-law, Michael Marks.

   Ernestine is survived by her children, Steve and wife Sandy Eilert of Sedgwick, John and wife Sharon Eilert of Beloit, Larry and wife Karen Eilert of Wichita, Jan Marks and husband Bob Bramhall of Manhattan, Becky Braley and husband Bill of Manhattan, Marti McElroy and husband Wayne of Randall, Judy Tracy and husband Bob of Wichita, and Ted and wife Sabra Eilert of Derby; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, with twins on the way; and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Funeral services will be at 10 AM Thursday, May 12 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. A rosary service will be at 7 PM Wednesday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home, &amp; visitation will be from 1 PM until the rosary service begins on Wednesday at the funeral home. Rebecca Sue Dudrey, 83, passed away on May 6, 2022, at Specialty 
Select House, Wichita, Kansas. She was born on May 18, 1938, at Preston,
 Kansas to Floyd &amp; Mary (Coburn) Leroux. Rebecca married Donald Lee

Coming from St. John since 1960, Rebecca was a Great Bend, Kansas 
resident. She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in 
Music Education and worked as an elementary school music teacher. 
Rebecca was a member of the Church of Christ, and after retiring became 
active in the Kiwanis Club, Pilot Club, League of Women Voters, Etudion,
 Gardening Club, Central Kansas Association of School Professionals, and
 Kansas Music Educators Association, holding board positions for each 
organization at one time.

Survivors include two sons, Byron (Marie) Dudrey of Erie, Colo. and 
Thadd Dudrey of Denver, Colo.; a daughter: Ayren (Mark) Huslig of 
Austin, Tex.; five grandchildren, Conner, Karis, and Collin Dudrey, 
Ellie and Evan Huslig; and one great-grandchild, Penny Jaymes Dudrey. 
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a sister, 
Phyllis Spade.

Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 
May 11, 2022, with the family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 
p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral Service will take place on 
Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ with John 
Turner presiding, following an open lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. 
Interment will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John, Kansas. 


Memorials have been designated to Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, in care of 
Bryant Funeral Home.

Dennis Gene Kuhlmann

Venus Mershon Jones, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, 
at the Lane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on April 
19, 1950, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Dwight Case and Claire
 JoAnn Norman Smith.&nbsp; A resident of Dighton, Kansas, since 1984 moving 
from Scott City, Kansas, she was a Registered Nurse.

Mershon was a member of the Community Christian Church in Scott City,
 Kansas, and was part of a musical group called Homestead.&nbsp; She loved 
the outdoors, and enjoyed skiing, hiking, camping, and gardening.&nbsp; She 
was also an avid hammered dulcimer player and enjoyed the Walnut Valley 
Festival in Winfield, Kansas, as well as helping organize workshops for 
other dulcimer enthusiasts.&nbsp; She was also a member of PEO Chapter GF in 
Dighton, Kansas since 1983.

On March 12, 1972, she married Rickey Dale Jones in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on March 9, 2006, in Wichita, Kansas.

Survivors include her Two Daughters - Angela Mershon &amp; Chris 
Preston of Manhattan, Kansas, Amanda Claire &amp; Brent Perusse of 
Basalt, Colorado, One Sister - Deandra Dawn &amp; Rick Stump of Luna 
Pier, Michigan, Two Grandsons - Joshua Preston of Manhattan, Kansas, and
 Brayden Perusse of Basalt, Colorado, and numerous nieces &amp; nephews.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, and Husband.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 10:30 
a.m. at the&nbsp;Community Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas with Gerald
 Koehn &amp; Ron Hess presiding. &nbsp;Funeral services will be live-streamed

Virginia Mae Lee, age 95, passed away at The Cottages in Garden City,
 Kansas on Saturday, May 7, 2022.&nbsp; She was born on May 30, 1926, in 
Wichita County, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph F. and Hattie E. 
(Schwindt) Gerstberger.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Kansas, 
she moved to Garden City, Kansas, in 2012.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and 
rancher/farmer’s wife.&nbsp; She was a caregiver to many, enjoyed dancing, 
gardening, and spending winters in Yuma, Arizona

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas, a 
60-year Order of the Eastern Star member, and a Rebekah Lodge member.&nbsp;

On December 1, 1949, she married Donald D. Lee in Leoti, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on September 5, 1990, in Garden City, Kansas.

Survivors include her three sons - Walton Lee of Anthony, Kansas, 
Charles &amp; Sherry Lee of Manhattan, Kansas, Terry &amp; Carol Lee of 
Garden City, Kansas, one daughter - Tana &amp; Donnie Emick of Lamar, 
Colorado, one sister-in-law - Phyllis Gerstberger of Gainesville, Texas,
 seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son - Gary, and three brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at
 the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas with the Rev. Tod Anthony 
presiding.

Stephen “Steve” Kisner Jr., age 94, a 
former Pfeifer, Kansas, resident died Friday, May 6, 2022, at Hays 
Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born August 19, 1927, on the farm 
at Pfeifer, Kansas, to Stephen Kisner Sr. and Anna Marie (Dome).&nbsp; He 
married Jane (Kronewitter) on August 1, 1949, at Pfeifer.

He was a farmer and a cattleman 
all of his life.&nbsp; He grew up on the farm at Pfeifer, he attended the 
Pfeifer Grade School, and was a graduate of Schoenchen High School.&nbsp; He 
served on the Bison CO-OP Board, and the Holy Cross Catholic Church 
Parish Council.&nbsp; He was a board member and clerk of the Freedom Township
 Board.&nbsp; He attended Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Hays, and was a
 former member of The Holy Cross Catholic Church of Pfeifer.&nbsp; &nbsp;Steve 
enjoyed working on the farm with his family, playing cards, listening to
 country music, dancing, and an avid Kansas City Royals fan.

Survivors include his wife, Jane 
Kisner, Hays, KS; his children, Gloria Dinkel, Hays, KS; Wanda 
Pfannenstiel and husband, Steve, Hays, KS; Linda Goetz and husband,
