Ethan James Morgan

Elizabeth "Betty" J. Davis, 86, passed away on May 14, 2022, at The 
Dorset Place, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born March 4, 1936, in 
Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Forest and Elizabeth (Korf) 
Newkirk.&nbsp;

She married Emerson J. Davis on October 8, 1953. He died January 2, 2015.

She grew up in the Barton County area.&nbsp; She was a cook for St. John’s
 Catholic School and Hoisington Dairy Queen for several years.&nbsp; She 
worked at Central Kansas Medical Center as a CNA and later joined 
Central Kansas Family Practice in 1975 where she retired in 1998 as 
their practice bookkeeper. She later joined her daughter’s business, 
Employee Benefit Professionals in Edmond, Oklahoma, as their agency 
bookkeeper until 2019.

Survivors include two sons; Jeff (Lisa) Davis of Omaha, NE; and Dave 
(Carla Rodie) Davis of Great Bend; one daughter, Rebecca Vonfeldt of 
Edmond, OK; five grandchildren; Amanda (Chris) Wyatt of Omaha, NE; Jacob
 (Sarah) Wilson of Great Bend; Jake (Karla) Wilkins of Hoisington; 
Brandon Vonfeldt of Edmond, OK and Megan Vonfeldt of Edmond, OK; nine 
great-grandchildren; Sean and Hannah Wyatt of Omaha, NE; Emery and Ryker
 of Great Bend; Jack, Jase, and Olivia Mann of Edmond, OK; Kinley and 
Adler Wilkins of Hoisington; one surviving brother, Don “Mouse” (Diane) 
Newkirk of Great Bend; her beloved dog, “Mitzi.”&nbsp; and many nieces and 
nephews.

&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lucille 
Stout, and Georgia Dyer; three brothers, Gene Newkirk, Jim Newkirk, and 
Frank Newkirk.

Friends may sign the book at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home from 9 am to 8 pm on Friday, May 27th.&nbsp; Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.&nbsp; There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 28th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.

Memorials may be made to the Hoisington Volunteer Fire Department or

Elizabeth 'Betty' J. Davis

Jennifer Lea Dohl, age 57, of Chicago, Illinois, died on May 17, 2022. 
She was born on October 6, 1964, in Lincoln, Kansas, the daughter of 
Herman and Arlene (Blase) Dohl. 
 She attended Bethlehem Lutheran Grade School in Sylvan Grove, KS, 
and graduated from Sylvan Unified High School in 1982. She attended 
Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS, and graduated with a BA degree in 
English Literature. In 1988, she went to work as a graduate assistant at
 Kansas State University, in Manhattan, KS, and studied Theatre 
Performance.
 Jennifer met her future husband, Donald Olsen, while at K-State. 
They were married on February 2, 2002 (02-02-02) at Emmaus Lutheran 
Church in Bonner Springs, KS, during an epic ice storm. However, their 
marriage was always warm. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary
 on February 2, 2022 (02-02-22).
 Jennifer worked for 27 years at a toy invention company in Chicago, 
IL. She was the office manager and served in many capacities. Jennifer 
enjoyed cooking and the entire family delighted in the wonderful parties
 she and Don hosted on their trips to Sylvan Grove. Events were always 
filled with good food, fellowship and a wide variety of their current 
favorite beers. They had a shared passion for motorcycle riding and went
 on numerous road trips. They put many miles on their Harley Davidson in
 the USA and also rode in Canada and Italy. They loved to travel and 
took several trips to Europe and a trip to Hawaii. Neither of them ever 
met a stranger and they made friends quickly in the pubs and bars they 
visited while traveling. Jennifer had a very generous spirit. Whether 
she was treating the nieces and nephews to the latest toys or the latest
 fashions, they always looked forward to her gifts. Jennifer especially 
enjoyed reading and always had boxes of books to lend or give to family 
and friends. 
 In July of 2021, Jennifer became ill with cancer. Despite a 
courageous fight, the cancer quickly overtook her body and life. After a
 brief period on hospice in Chicago, she traveled to Sylvan Grove for 
her remaining days. Don and Jennifer’s family thank Solomon Valley 
Hospice, Beloit, KS, for their compassionate care of Jennifer. Jennifer
 died in the family farmhouse surrounded by her loving husband, her 
family and closest friends.
 Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Arlene 
Dohl; infant sister, Erica Dohl; and older brother, Arthur Dohl; 
father-in-law, Fred D. Olsen; and Don’s half siblings, Mike Albright and
 Gay Cole.
 Jennifer is survived by her husband, Donald Olsen, of Chicago, IL; 
mother-in-law, Betty Olsen, of Rehoboth Beach, DE; Gerald (Barbara) 
Howard of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and Doris Duvall of Millsboro, DE.

Catherine Marie “Katie” (Gerhardt) Rohr, age 91 years, 11 months and 29 days, of Hays, Kansas, died Monday, May 16, 2022, at Via Christi Village Care Center in Hays.

She was born May 17, 1930, on the family farm at Emmeram, Kansas to Michael and Florence (Coon) Brungardt Gerhardt.&nbsp; Katie’s mother Florence was brought to Kansas on the Orphan Train in the early 1900’s and was raised by the Anton and Barbara Brungardt family.&nbsp; Katie married Clarence J. Rohr on May 27, 1948, at Emmeram.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on December 22, 2003.&nbsp;

Katie worked as a cook at St. John’s New Horizon and Via Christi Village Assisted Living for over 20 years, and retired in 2009.&nbsp; She also was at Travenol for 17 years and was there until they closed.&nbsp; She grew up on the farm at Emmeram and attended the Emmeram Grade School.&nbsp; In her early years she worked at The Lammer Hotel, and the old St. Anthony Hospital both in Hays.&nbsp; Katie and Clarence raised their family on their farm South-West of Hays, and then in 1980 they moved into town.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.

Katie enjoyed dancing, playing cards, cooking and baking, making noodles, bingo, and her family.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children, Linda Height and husband, James, Hays, KS; Wanda Oborny and husband, Paul, Hays, KS; Gary Rohr and wife, Vivian, Peoria, AZ; her nine grandchildren, Lisa Dudenhoeffer (Dan); Lori Brungardt (Glenn); Lambert Schlyer; Melanie McCoy (Casey); Kevin Storm (Missy); Scott Rohr (Niki); Mike Rohr (Jean); Mindi Stahl; Brandi Oakley (Seth); her one step-grandchild, Trent Oborny (Kayli); her 20 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild on the way.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 20, 2022, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine, Hays, Kansas with Father Nick Parker Officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

A vigil service and a Hays Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Friday, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church

Katie Rohr

Dr. James “Jim” L. Holder, age 88, passed away on May 16, 2022. He was 
born on February 22, 1934, in rural Dacoma, Oklahoma to James Lee and 
Edith (Thomas) Holder. Being a child of pastors/teachers, brought 
several relocations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa before 
returning to western Oklahoma. Jim’s younger brother was born while they
 lived in Kansas.
 Jim married Lilas Flanagan in rural Texhoma, Oklahoma on June 25, 
1954. To this union two children were born, a son, Kendall, and a 
daughter, Karmalene.
 Jim earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education in 
1956 from Northwestern State College, Alva, Oklahoma; a Master of 
Science Degree in School Administration in 1960 from Ft. Hays State 
College, Hays, Kansas, and a Doctor of Education Degree in School 
Administration in 1968 from the University of Northern Colorado, 
Greeley, Colorado.
 Jim taught Business Education, Mathematics, Music and Industrial 
Arts at Nashville, Kansas from 1956 to 1959. He served as school 
administrator at Barnard, Kansas from 1960 to 1962 and at Goodwell, 
Oklahoma from 1962 to 1967. After earning his doctorate degree Jim 
served nine years as Assistant Superintendent for Business at Goodland, 
Kansas and two years as Superintendent of Schools at Sublette, Kansas.
 In 1979, Jim left the education field and joined Kennedy &amp; Coe, a
 regional C. P. A. firm, as Business Manager, serving 15 years. 
Following certification in 1995, Jim became a financial advisor with 
Waddell &amp; Reed retiring after ten years as Senior Financial Advisor.
 Jim was a member of the First Covenant Church. Through the years Jim
 served several churches in lay leadership roles such as treasurer, 
financial secretary, board member, Sunday School teacher, and music 
director.

 </figure>Dr. James “Jim” L. Holder, age 88, passed away on May 16, 2022. He was 
born on February 22, 1934, in rural Dacoma, Oklahoma to James Lee and 
Edith (Thomas) Holder. Being a child of pastors/teachers, brought 
several relocations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa before 
returning to western Oklahoma. Jim’s younger brother was born while they
 lived in Kansas.
 Jim married Lilas Flanagan in rural Texhoma, Oklahoma on June 25, 
1954. To this union two children were born, a son, Kendall, and a 
daughter, Karmalene.
 Jim earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education in 
1956 from Northwestern State College, Alva, Oklahoma; a Master of 
Science Degree in School Administration in 1960 from Ft. Hays State 
College, Hays, Kansas, and a Doctor of Education Degree in School 
Administration in 1968 from the University of Northern Colorado, 
Greeley, Colorado.
 Jim taught Business Education, Mathematics, Music and Industrial 
Arts at Nashville, Kansas from 1956 to 1959. He served as school 
administrator at Barnard, Kansas from 1960 to 1962 and at Goodwell, 
Oklahoma from 1962 to 1967. After earning his doctorate degree Jim 
served nine years as Assistant Superintendent for Business at Goodland, 
Kansas and two years as Superintendent of Schools at Sublette, Kansas.
 In 1979, Jim left the education field and joined Kennedy &amp; Coe, a
 regional C. P. A. firm, as Business Manager, serving 15 years. 
Following certification in 1995, Jim became a financial advisor with 
Waddell &amp; Reed retiring after ten years as Senior Financial Advisor.
 Jim was a member of the First Covenant Church. Through the years Jim
 served several churches in lay leadership roles such as treasurer, 
financial secretary, board member, Sunday School teacher, and music 
director.

Barbara Jo Landis, Age 88, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 
the Wichita County Long Term Care Center in Leoti, Kansas. She was born 
to James Robert &amp; Mary Jo Faherty Byrd on April&nbsp;21, 1934, in Denver,
 Colorado.

Barbara moved to Leoti in May 2011 from Longmont, Colorado. She was a
 member of the Abundant Life Church in Leoti, Kansas and lived her life 
in service to her family and as an occupational therapist. She 
volunteered as a Girl Scout and Brownie troop leader. For several years,
 she was the director for the Meals-on-Wheels program in Longmont, 
Colorado.

Survivors include, one son, Christopher &amp; Tammy Landis of Leoti, 
Kansas, two daughters, Susan Herrel of Yoder, Colorado, Jennifer &amp; 
Robert McMann of Sun City West, Arizona, one granddaughter, Shealene 
&amp; Mark Downey of Fort Drum, New York, four grandsons, Sean Landis of
 Boulder, Colorado, Jeremy &amp; Andrea Landis of Arvada, Colorado, Joel
 Landis of Leoti, Kansas, Anthony &amp; Sara Landis of Willow Springs, 
North Carolina, and seven great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Steve Landis, and one sister, Beverly Grissom.

Mary Lou Rex, 81, passed away Friday May 13, 2022, at here home in Larned, Kansas.

She was born December 2, 1940, in Naples, New York, the daughter of Kenneth and Genevieve Hennessey Hall.

Moving from Naples, New York, she was an area resident since 2002. 
She was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed playing Mahjong, painting 
watercolor pictures and colored pencil drawings, especially for her 
grandchildren. She loved animals and was a former volunteer at Pawnee 
County Humane Society. She enjoyed music, gardening, and taking pictures
 of her family. She was a real kid person and her grandchildren adored 
her.&nbsp; She was a loving mother and grandmother whose kindness and joy of 
family was shared by all.

On April 4, 1959, she married Charles Rex at Naples, New York; he 
preceded her in death in 2001.&nbsp; She never stopped missing his 
companionship.

&nbsp;Survivors include: two daughters, Bethany (Dennis) Smith, Larned; 
Sandra (Robert) Gates, Dansville, New York; one son Carl (Colleen) Rex, 
Shawnee, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Emmons, Aaron Scott, Tracy
 (Nick) Daniels, Dillon (Jessica Monro) Gates, MacKenzie (Ryan) Shigley,
 Cameron (Summer) Rex, Keaton Rex, Bryce Rex and Jacob Smith; 8 great 
grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Lowell D. Whitlock III, 76, Wichita, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Larksfield Place, Wichita, Kansas.

The oldest of four boys born to Dr. Lowell D. Whitlock, Jr. and Oneta
 Nadine (Moore) Whitlock, of Glencoe, Oklahoma, Lowell was born on July 
23, 1945, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.&nbsp; He was a resident of Wichita, 
Kansas, for three years, moving there from Hesston, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a 
1963 graduate of Altus High School, Altus, Oklahoma.&nbsp; Lowell was a 1968 
graduate of Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, majoring in
 marketing with a minor in psychology.&nbsp;

After graduation from Oklahoma State University, Lowell was employed 
as a buyer at Foley’s Department Store in Houston, Texas, prior to 
owning and operating a men’s clothing store, The Surrey Shop of 
Weatherford, Oklahoma, for eight years.

In 1978, Lowell began his career with Southwestern Bell 
Corporation/AT&amp;T.&nbsp; After retirement from AT&amp;T, he accepted a 
position in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as President of Vanion, a Koch 
Industries investment for three years.

After retirement, Lowell volunteered at Fort Hays State University, 
Hays, Kansas, as Advisor to the Dean of Business and Executive in 
Residence for several years.

He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard for eight years.

On October 25, 1980, he married Rebecca Stejskal at Shangr-la, Oklahoma.

A devout Christian, Lowell was born and raised in the Baptist faith.&nbsp;
 Later, honoring Rebecca’s Roman Catholic faith, and his respect of 
Catholicism, he and his wife, Rebecca, were confirmed and attended the 
Episcopal Church.&nbsp; He was a former member of St. Martin’s Episcopal 
Church Vestry Board, Houston, Texas; and the San Antonio Symphony Board,
 San Antonio, Texas.&nbsp; He was also a former member of Rotary Clubs in the
 various cities in which they resided.

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Rebecca Whitlock, Wichita, Kansas; two 
daughters, Wende Wayne, and her husband, Peter, Houston, Texas, and 
Stacy Miller, and her husband, Roddrick, Atlanta, Georgia; six 
grandchildren, Madelyn, Parker, and Travis Wayne, all of Houston, Texas,
 and Karston, Gracyn, and Braxton Miller, all of Atlanta, Georgia; and 
two brothers, Mark Whitlock, and his wife, Joy, Altus, Oklahoma, and 
Reverend Dr. David B. Whitlock, and his wife, Lori, Lebanon, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dougie Whitlock.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 
P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family

from a&nbsp; vehicle accident in Gray County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on March 
10, 1972, in Fort Eustis, Virginia, the son of Marlin Dean and Christine
 Mary Roberts Woosley.&nbsp; A resident of Garden City, Kansas since 1998 
moving from Des Moines, Iowa, he worked for Cargill in Dodge City, 
Kansas.

He was a member of the Bible Christian Church in Garden City, Kansas, NRA, and was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout Leader.

On July 11, 1991, he married Sarah Jane Dawson in Des Moines, Iowa.&nbsp; 
She passed away on November 11, 2021, in Garden City, Kansas.

Donald L. Woosley II

Larry Lee Winterscheidt, age 80, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. 
He was born September 6, 1941, in Hiawatha, Kansas to Lyle and Madelyn 
(McGinty) Winterscheidt. He married Amelia (Millie) Boos in Ellis at St.
 Mary’s Church on August 6, 1962.

After graduating high school, he 
enlisted in the United States Air Force. After 8 years of service was 
honorably discharged in January of 1968. One of his deployments included
 Thailand in 1966 during the Vietnam War, he was stationed at the Royal 
Thai Air Base at Takhli, Thailand.&nbsp;

After his military service, he 
graduated from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, in the fall of 
1970 with a B.A. degree in economics. He spent his career in the 
insurance industry, first in Colorado, then in Kansas. He also obtained 
his stock broker’s license to further his career. During his insurance 
career, he received several awards as top salesman which earned him a 
Caribbean cruise and several other vacations including trips to Hawaii, 
Puerto Vallarta, and Yellowstone National Park.&nbsp;&nbsp; 
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, playing cards with family and playing games with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Millie, of 
the home; his children Jerry (Cindi) Longmont, CO; Jodi, Hays, and Larry
 Lee II (Alison) Cedar Falls, IA; his five grandchildren Dustin 
Winterscheidt, Windsor, CO; Corey Winterscheidt, Longmont, CO; Ashlee 
Winterscheidt, Hays, KS; Kaylee and Drew Winterscheidt, Cedar Falls, IA;
 his three step-grandchildren, Lauren Vis, Tiffany (Nick) Kruger and 
Josh Vis, Cedar Rapids, IA; his six step-great grandchildren, his 
sister, Debra (Bruce) Campbell, Oakley, KS.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marie; his parents, and sisters Darlene Colglazier and Norma Burrows.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held&nbsp;&nbsp;at 10:00 AM on&nbsp;Wednesday, May 18, 2022,&nbsp;at
 St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis, Kansas,&nbsp; with family receiving 
visitors at 9:00 until time of service. Inurnment will follow 
services&nbsp;in St. Mary's Cemetery with Military Honors.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Church, Ellis VFW Post 9139, or Midwest Organ Transplant Network.

Longtime St. Francis, KS resident David G. Rogers, 64, passed away at his home in rural Cheyenne County, on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

David was born January 6, 1958, in Wray, Colorado, to Kenneth&nbsp;Gale&nbsp;and Betty Jo (Huff) Rogers. &nbsp;He was one of&nbsp;6&nbsp;children. &nbsp;He attended school in Wray and graduated from Wray Community Schools in 1976.

In the following years, David married&nbsp;three times in his life. &nbsp;He married Kay who gave birth to two children. &nbsp;He later moved to St. Francis, KS, married Teresa and blended their families. &nbsp;Histhird and final marriage&nbsp;was with Patty. &nbsp;They combined their families and much loved was shared amongst the family.

David enjoyed farming, gardening, carpentry, rock climbing, wrestling,&nbsp;and football. &nbsp;David had great love for family, friends, and strangers alike. &nbsp;One of his greatest joys was leading people to&nbsp;and following&nbsp;Jesus.

Preceding him in death were&nbsp;his&nbsp;sister&nbsp;Debborah&nbsp;Gale Rogers and&nbsp;daughter Lindsey Rogers.

He is survived by his wife Patty of the home, his parents Kenny Rogers of Meeker, CO and Betty Rogers of Wray, CO, his children Russell (Kristi&nbsp;McRedmond) of Thornton, CO, Vanessa Wieck&nbsp;Stortz&nbsp;(Crockett&nbsp;Stortz) of St. Francis, KS, four grandchildren; Morgan Haines of Colby, KS,&nbsp;Taylynn&nbsp;Wieck of St. Francis, KS,&nbsp;Emberlynn&nbsp;Stortz&nbsp;of St. Francis, KS and Kinley&nbsp;McRedmond-Fisher of Thornton, CO. &nbsp;He is also survived by 2 brothers Doug (Tammy) Rogers of Burlington, CO and John&nbsp;Rogers&nbsp;(Jane&nbsp;Turnburke)&nbsp;<a></a>of Meeker, CO, and 2 sisters Cindy&nbsp;Buol&nbsp;of Florida and Julie (Tim) Trahern of&nbsp;Centennial,&nbsp;CO. &nbsp;

David G. Rogers

Rolland Bernard Haselhorst, 85, passed away Sept. 24, 2021, at Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, Colo. Rolland was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Hays to Joseph and Philomena (Ryjewski) Haselhorst.

Rolland graduated from St. Josephs Military Academy in 1954 in Hays. On Sept. 10, 1957. He married Betty Honas at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. They celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Rolland enjoyed watching sports, attending his favorite Bronco games, especially the Elway years. He also enjoyed the Colorado Rockies. His favorite of all was golfing.

Rolland worked in the oil fields in the late '50s. He spent time in Oklahoma on various bridges, and lock and dams in Arkansas. In 1968, Rolland moved his family to Colorado, working on high-rises and in hospitality. The majority of his more than 50 years was in commercial construction, building health care facilities. After retiring at the age of 77, he took up a hobby of golfing. He spent numerous hours on the golf course practicing or playing nine holes by himself or with anyone who was up to the game.

Rolland is survived by his wife Betty of Parker, Colorado; sons Dr. Joseph Haselhorst and James Haselhorst of Naperville, Ill., and Jeffrey (Lisa) of Parker, Colo. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren Dr. Christine Haselhorst of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Leah Haselhorst, Lauren Haselhorst, Sarah Haselhorst all of Chicago; Mike (Joselyn) Haselhorst, Mark (Lucy) Haselhorst, Andy (Hailey) Haselhorst, and Jake Haselhorst all of Parker, Colo.; Chris (Hannah) Haselhorst of Marion, Indiana; and Sara Beth Haselhorst of Texas. Five great-grandchildren Eleanor, Ephraim, Nolan, Clarie, and Sammy. His brother Orville Haselhorst of Hays; sister-in-law Rosalina Haselhorst of Fredricksburg, Va.; brother-in-law Marvin Honas of Hays. Many nieces, nephews and friends also hold memories of Rolland.

Rolland was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Minnie; brothers Walter, Evarist, Merlin, Emil in infancy, and Dennis. In addition to Rolland’s sister-in-laws Agedia, Alice, Theresa, and Dolores. At Rolland’s request cremation has taken place.

Rosary will be by Dean and Julie Haselhorst at 9:30 am. Mass to follow.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ellis. A luncheon will follow at Knights of Columbus Hall in Ellis.

Rolland Bernard Haselhorst

John Benjamin “Ben” Muci, 80, died May 14, 2022, at Hospice House. He
 was born November 14, 1941, in the family home in St. John, to John S. 
and Ruth (Rellez) Muci.

Ben graduated from St. John High School and Sterling College. 
Following college, he began a life-long career in public service: 
serving in the Army Reserve, as a Hutchinson Police Officer and Juvenile
 Detective for 20 years, and then as a Community Corrections Officer for
 13 years. Ben’s passion throughout his career focused on the safety and
 welfare of children.

On June 8, 1968, Ben married M. Jeannene Tucker, in Hutchinson. They 
shared nearly 54 years of marriage and she has been his loving and 
steadfast primary caregiver for the past several years as Ben’s health 
declined.

He is survived by: his wife, Jeannene of the home; children, Karen 
Ekberg (Scott) of Great Bend, Kevin Muci (Shelley) of Ceres, CA, Lynn 
Tyson of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Christopher, Justin and Samantha 
Ekberg, Stephanie and Jessica Muci, Marcus and Larissa Jackson; 
great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Ethan Ekberg; brothers C.F. Muci 
(Marlene) and J.R. Muci (Rhita) of Wichita; sister-in-law, Helen Muci of
 La Habra, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Stanley Muci; 
sisters, Elvira Peters, Raquel Patrick, Emelia Kittel, Ruth E. Muci; and
 brothers-in-law, Jerry Patrick and Norman Kittel.

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held
 at a later date in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may sign his memorial 
book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday thru Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Betty Lou Sanders Meyers, 84 went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, after a battle with COPD.

She was born on December 9, 1937, in Merritt, North Carolina to 
tobacco farmers Arthur Benjamin and Dora Paul Sanders and was the baby 
of seven. Bet spent her youth building houses out of tobacco sticks with
 her sister Gentry. On one occasion, it was a windy day and they built 
one under the house and started a fire to cook. It scared Mama Dora to 
death. She also worked on the farm until she graduated from Pamilco 
County High School in 1955. She attended East Carolina College in 
Greenville. Her life’s work was bookkeeping, and she passed that down to
 her daughter. Bet worked for Can Car / Tree Farmer for 14 years in 
Waycross, Georgia and then for Continental Eagle in Prattville, Alabama 
for 20 years when she retired and moved to Killeen, Texas to be near her
 daughter. She later moved to Kansas in 2020 until her death.

She was an avid reader and never missed a Charles Stanley sermon.

Bet, Betty Lou, Mama, Mimie, Grandma Betty is survived by her 
children Gene (Sherry) Arthur and Paula (Troy) Moseley; five 
grandchildren: Angel (Chris) Dixon, Michael (Brandy) Arthur, Erin (Erik)
 Daniels, Zach Moseley and Victoria Moseley; seven great grandchildren: 
Drew Hill, Paige Dixon, Kylie Dixon, Chandler Arthur, Jackson Daniels, 
Allie Daniels, and newest great grandson, Colson Bryan. She is also 
survived by her sisters, Wilma Whorton and Gentry Jones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and their 
wives: Randolph and Geraldine Sanders, Dalton and Sarah Sanders, Horace 
and Florence Sanders; her sister, Pamilla Sanders and brothers in law 
S.G. Whorton and Guy Jones.

gathering Sunday, May 22, 2022, anytime from 1-3 pm at the Concord

Bertha Mae Martin, 91, died May 16, 2022, at Locust Grove Village, La
 Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born December 29, 1930, in Broken Arrow, 
Oklahoma, the daughter of Arnold and Caroline (Reinhardt) Kunze. Bertha 
was a graduate of Broken Arrow High School.

On December 11, 1949, she married Leon L. Martin in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.&nbsp; He died June 3, 2010.

A Barton County resident since 1952, Bertha was a homemaker and 
cashier at Town &amp; Country Supermarket for 26 years. She was a member
 of Emmanual Lutheran Church, Emmanuel Sewers, Clara Barton Foundation, 
Clara Barton Hospital Auxiliary, Clara Barton Pink Ladies and the Kan 
Colo Credit Union.

She is survived by four children; Shari (Craig) Weeks of Topeka; 
Jozet (Mike) Littrell of Hoisington, Mark (Sandy) Martin of Hoisington, 
and Alesia (Tim) Roccia of Ballwin, Missouri; sister-in-law, Evelyn 
Kunze of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and; seven grandchildren, Aaron &nbsp;(Kali 
Brazeel) Weeks of Dallas, Texas, Kara (Kim) Gardner of Hoisington, Ami 
(Heath) Klein of Atwood, Amber (Derek) David of Hoisington, and Justin

She was preceded in death by her mother, Caroline Kunze, father and

Bertha Mae Martin

Leona Bell, 94, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Hays 
Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born December 24, 1927, in rural 
Graham County to Wallace Frederick and Lena Alice (Kaufman) Kerbaugh. 
She attended the Miller District 52 Country School until the summer of 
1936. Then the family moved to Loveland, Colorado, hoping that her 
father could find work. The summer of 1937 their family returned to 
Graham County where Leona again attended the Miller School. In 1939 they
 moved to Hill City and in 1942 they returned to Morland where Leona 
finished school. She graduated from Morland High School in 1946.
 On October 10, 1948, Leona was united in marriage to Lawrence Bell. 
Following her high school graduation Leona had worked in a post office, 
as a waitress, cook and grocery store clerk, before she became a 
full-time partner and farm wife. Three children were born to this union:
 Larry Wayne, Carol Jane and Janet Kay. They raised their family on a 
farm north of Morland. 
 Leona drove the tractor, hauled grain to the elevator, tended to the
 cattle, was the chief cook and parts runner, and did everything else 
that was needed. And she still found time to raise a huge garden! She 
always said if you had meat and potatoes, you didn’t need much else to 
feed a family. 
 Loving to cook, she hosted many family holiday dinners. You never 
left her house hungry. She was her children and grandchildren’s biggest
 fan, no matter what sport they were participating in. She was an avid 
Chiefs, Royals and KU Jayhawks fan. Leona watched her beloved Jayhawks 
win the national championship game and then quit watching TV because all
 they ever did was advertise. 
 After Lawrence passed away January 2, 1989, Leona continued to run 
the farm. She had no desire to leave that farm to seek a city job. She
 stated many times, there was no better place to die than in her garden 
under her tomato plants. She almost got her wish, as she was still 
living alone on the farm until she went into the hospital on Mother’s 
Day, May 8, 2022.
 She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, her parents, her
 two brothers, Wayne and Rex Kerbaugh, and two sisters, Bernita Bell and
 Jean Nickelson. 
 Surviving is her son, Larry Wayne Bell, Morland; daughters Carol 
Jane Bedore, Hill City and Janet Kay and Ace Billips, Hill City; a 
sister-in-law, Delores Kerbaugh, Hill City; nine grandchildren: Lynette 
and Mike King, Lance Bedore (Julie Brown), Layne and Katie Bedore, Bruce
 and Roseanne Billips, Brett and Michelle Billips, Roger Billips 
(Chelsie Wolf), Dr. Jordan Bell, Kayla and Tyler Waggoner, and Chase 
Bell; 21 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. 
 Although we are sad she left us, she had told us several times, and 
again on Mother’s Day, “I am tired and just want to go to sleep and not 
wake up. After all, I am almost one hundred years old, and no one lives
 forever.” But she will forever live in our hearts.&nbsp;&nbsp;

failure. His 30-year radio career as Dan Michaels was the extension of

mother-in-law Faye Gargis; his siblings, Jeanne and John Lubbers,

Manuel Rios Jr., age 79, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at the 
Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on January 7, 
1943, in Laredo, Texas, the son of Manuel Rios Sr. and Hortencia Garcia 
Rios.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1991 moving from Holcomb, 
Kansas, he was a retired farming mechanic.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On November 30, 1963, he married Virginia Camacho in Stamford, Texas.&nbsp; She passed away on April 7, 2008, in Scott City, Kansas.

Wilmetta Katie Lee Deutsch, 88, died Monday, May 16, 2022, at Country 
Place Senior Living in Hoisington, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Wilmetta was born December 24,
 1933, in Russell County, the daughter of John J. Mai and Katherina 
Elizabeth (Maier) Mai.&nbsp;&nbsp; She grew up in the Bender Hill area, attended 
Bender Hill Schools and graduated from Russell High School with the 
class of 1952.

Wilmetta married Junior Lee Deutsch April 25, 1954, in rural Russell 
County at Bender Hill Church. They recently celebrated 68 years of 
marriage.&nbsp; From this union they were blessed with two children, Johnny 
Deutsch and Kimberly (Deutsch) Emert.

Wilmetta lived all her life in the Hoisington area.&nbsp; She was a 
homemaker and worked at the Hoisington Hospital and for Dr. Robert 
Moore, MD and for Cardinal Pharmacy.&nbsp;

Wilmetta was a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the 
Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and church choir.&nbsp;&nbsp; She especially 
enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with her husband 
camping on fishing trips and attending family golf outings and 
tournaments.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was very fond of her grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time at gatherings with many 
friends and relatives and traveling to Topeka and Kansas City.&nbsp;&nbsp; She 
enjoyed time at KSU events especially attending football games and 
tailgates with friends and family.

Wilmetta was preceded in death by husband Junior, her parents, one 
sister Viola Bender, five brothers, Leo Mai, Walter Mai, Clarence Mai, 
Earlin Mai and Howard Mai.

Survivors include a son, Johnny Deutsch (Carma) of Topeka,KS,&nbsp; 
daughter, Kimberly (Deutsch) Emert (John) of Mission, KS;&nbsp; Four 
grandchildren; Sara (Deutsch) Jones (Chris); Ryan Deutsch (Holly); Frank
 Emert (Anne); Molly Ellen (Emert) Campbell (Michael); Six 
great-grandchildren; Camden and Julia Jones of Bartlesville, OK;&nbsp; 
McKenna, Kaia and Mila Deutsch of Dodge City, KS; and Claire Ferne 
Campbell of Manhattan, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp; Many nieces and nephews.

Friends may sign the book at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home from 9 a.m.
 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.&nbsp; There will be no viewing as cremation has 
taken place per Wilmetta’s wishes.

Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 
Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington with Pastor Gary Wolf

Moore, MD and for Cardinal Pharmacy.&nbsp;Wilmetta was a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the 
Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and church choir.&nbsp;&nbsp; She especially 
enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with her husband 
camping on fishing trips and attending family golf outings and 
tournaments.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was very fond of her grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time at gatherings with many 
friends and relatives and traveling to Topeka and Kansas City.&nbsp;&nbsp; She 
enjoyed time at KSU events especially attending football games and 
tailgates with friends and family.Wilmetta was preceded in death by husband Junior, her parents, one 
sister Viola Bender, five brothers, Leo Mai, Walter Mai, Clarence Mai, 
Earlin Mai and Howard Mai.Survivors include a son, Johnny Deutsch (Carma) of Topeka,KS,&nbsp; 
daughter, Kimberly (Deutsch) Emert (John) of Mission, KS;&nbsp; Four 
grandchildren; Sara (Deutsch) Jones (Chris); Ryan Deutsch (Holly); Frank
 Emert (Anne); Molly Ellen (Emert) Campbell (Michael); Six 
great-grandchildren; Camden and Julia Jones of Bartlesville, OK;&nbsp; 
McKenna, Kaia and Mila Deutsch of Dodge City, KS; and Claire Ferne 
Campbell of Manhattan, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp; Many nieces and nephews.Friends may sign the book at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home from 9 a.m.
 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.&nbsp; There will be no viewing as cremation has 
taken place per Wilmetta’s wishes.Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 
Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington with Pastor Gary Wolf 
presiding.&nbsp; Family will greet friends prior to the service starting at 
1:00 p.m. at the church.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow the service in 
Hoisington Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial&nbsp; gifts may be made to Clara Barton 
Hospital Foundation, Concordia Lutheran Church or Kindred Hospice all in
 care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS&nbsp;
