Kenneth Dean “Kenny” Schwindt – LEOTI, KS – The man. The myth. The legend.&nbsp;

Ken
 died on May 11, 2022, at the age of 81 ½ years. Born October 22, 1940, 
in Scott City, KS to Clifford Leslie Schwindt and Lillie May Smith, he 
loved flying, telling jokes (and he remembered EVERY joke he ever 
heard!), hosting Rocky Mountain oyster fries, raising hogs, figuring out
 puzzles and brain stumpers and Dr. Pepper. Not necessarily in that 
order.&nbsp; He hated hypocrites, snakes, and a job poorly done. Not 
necessarily in that order.&nbsp; 

Ken
 was great at, well, just about everything. He was a master craftsman 
who single-handedly built a tilt trailer in high school shop class long 
before this type of trailer was even on anyone’s radar. A skilled and 
self-taught mechanic, he could make any motor purr once again, 
regardless of why it now didn’t run and not charge an arm and a leg or 
the first-born child. But make no mistake, Ken loved kids. Teaching was 
truly his gift and he made a game out of learning. He probably taught 
hundreds of little ones how to tie their shoelaces over the years.&nbsp; 
Actually, you learned from Ken whether you wanted to or not. A seasoned 
carpenter, Ken turned the shattered remnants of a tornado-hit singlewide
 into he and wife Sue’s first family home. &nbsp;He was great at farming, 
growing a garden, making everyone feel welcome, and figuring out an 
easier way to get a job done. He made things work FOR him including 
things like weather and gravity. He figured out how to harness leverage –
 accomplishing an amazing amount of work by himself. When it came to 
grilling Rocky Mountain oysters, he cornered the market in western 
Kansas. He loved hosting this event (much to his wife’s chagrin who was 
often left with the kitchen to clean up). 

Ken
 loved to tell stories (most of them true) but was especially good at 
telling jokes and he was good at it…really, REALLY good at it…a perfect 
delivery every…single….time! 

What
 Ken loved most was flying (second of course to his wife and family).&nbsp; 
During his flight exam, the Captain, so impressed with Ken’s knowledge 
and judgment, offered him a pilot’s job with Continental Airlines simply
 because Ken refused the final taxi until the Captain had closed and 
locked his window.&nbsp; According to the Captain, most guys failed right 
there! But Ken declined, choosing instead to remain on the family farm 
in northeastern Wichita County where he’d invested so much of himself 
over the years. This love of flying was never far from his heart 
however. Not long after, he signed on as a private pilot chauffeuring 
his favorite Uncle Hallie about as he built the High Plains Feedlot 
north of Leoti. But that wasn’t the end of his flying years. Ken knew no
 fear and was ecstatic when asked to join in the Weather Mod cloud 
seeding project.&nbsp; Each time the storm clouds appears, he’d wait 
anxiously for that phone call asking him to load up and fly on the 
leading edge of the thunderstorm to encourage rain and dissipate hail. 
When asked if it was dangerous, he would smile and say, “No, the guys on
 the ground have our back” but then offered no explanation of the hail 
dents on the plane??!! Hmmm, perhaps a little too close to the action?? 
He’d never tell.

Ken’s
 energy knew no bounds, even at an early age. He attended elementary 
school at&nbsp;Pleasant Valley (where the old schoolhouse still stands), 
Lydia and R.B. Stewart. His day started at 4:30 am milking&nbsp;30 plus&nbsp;dairy
 cows, then he’d drive his sister and brother to country school, and 
finally head to town to start his own day at school. Ken was so 
dedicated to the success of the family farm that he literally “raised 
and sold the bacon” to help generate extra income to sustain the family 
farm. But what was learned on the farm didn’t always stay on the farm. 
Ken had an incredible memory and would often take all he’d learned and 
parlay into various small businesses and side gigs. 

Jack of All Trades….Master of Darned Near Every Single One of Them too!

The
 list of all Ken did is impressive: he farmed, ranched, drove truck and 
custom harvested, and ran a trenching and excavating business laying 
miles and miles of water line in the remote Kansas wilderness. He 
mastered butchering and sausage-making long before it was the new 
homesteading-prepper trend. Self-taught master plumber, electrician, 
carpenter and mechanic, he’d even diagnose problems over the phone!&nbsp; He 
made the best popcorn and potato donuts this side of outer space. 
Seriously, what couldn’t he do? Well, he couldn’t stay single and in 
1964 Linda Sue Burkart nabbed him or maybe….just maybe…he talked her 
into marriage? After all, Ken could indeed “sell ice to an Eskimo.” 

But
 the favored story begins like this: Ken was a Sunday School teacher and
 a youth group sponsor at the Assembly of God church where the entire 
family was baptized together. Ken believed God was responsible for an 
encounter he had with a rattlesnake (one of literally hundreds he’s 
slain over his lifetime) while farming in the Lamar, CO area. The area 
was full of abandoned cisterns and rattlesnakes and at least 30 minutes 
from civilization. The rattlesnakes were so bad that it wasn’t even safe
 to walk from the pickup to the tractor. The safest entrance in and out 
of the tractor was crawling through an open window from the bed of the 
pickup, feet never touching the ground. Early one fall morning, Ken 
drove up to the tractor, decided to open the pickup door, and get out, 
thinking the cool, brisk morning had surely stalled the slithers. He 
took his first step and as he lifted his foot for the second, he heard a
 strange noise that sort of sounded like a rattle. He looked back and 
realized that his first step had been planted squarely on the head of a 
rattler and that the twist in his step had dislocated the snake’s jaw, 
preventing what would have been a deadly bite. Truly God had protected 
him exactly as his wife had prayed every morning: “He that dwelleth 
in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the
 Almighty.....Thou shall tread on the lion and the adder, the young lion
 and adder shall thou trample underfoot .” (Psalm 91: 1 &amp; 12) Whew! God’s Protection!!

Ever
 compassionate and kind (well, not to rattlesnakes), Ken never&nbsp;met a 
stranger. He truly loved visiting with everyone. Generous to a fault and
 always glad to help, no strings attached, he believed the best in 
people. He always went out of his way when he discovered someone 
in&nbsp;sincere need, and even if it took extra effort on&nbsp;his&nbsp;part, he made 
sure they felt like they were earning their way rather than being given a
 mere handout.

When
 Ken boarded the plane for his last and final flight, he left his wife, 
Linda Sue (Burkart) Schwindt of the home, eldest daughter Kendra (David 
Kennelly) Schwindt of Marienthal, KS, youngest daughter Lynda (Allen) 
Brockmeier of Hays, KS, grand-daughter Dr. Megan Swope of Beaverton, OR,
 sister Lois Tucker of Wellington, CO, sister Norma (Bob) Marsh of 
Phoenix, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews who all know how to tie 
their shoes. &nbsp;

Kenneth Dean 'Kenny' Schwindt

Elinor Jean Scott, age 96, of Hays, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022.

She was born on the family farm May 10,
 1926, to Albert and Nellie (Rychel) Yost.&nbsp; Growing up near Downs with 
her two brothers, she endured the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, 
learning early on about hard work and thrift and perseverance. &nbsp;She 
maintained these qualities for the rest of her life. &nbsp;

She attended Downs High School, 
graduating in 1945. &nbsp;On August 3, 1946, she was united in marriage with 
Ralph W. Scott at Williams Air Base in Chandler, Arizona.&nbsp; Upon Ralph’s 
release from the Army Air Corps, both Elinor and Ralph attended the 
University of Kansas, where Elinor earned her Bachelor’s degree in 
Education, and Ralph earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. 
Following their graduations, they raised their four children in Smith 
Center and Hays, Kansas.

Elinor delayed her teaching career 
until all four children reached grade school. &nbsp;She then taught fourth 
grade at Wilson Elementary school for 25 years, retiring in the early '90s. In retirement, she remained active with her responsibilities at 
the First Presbyterian Church of Hays and enjoyed bridge club, KU 
basketball, travel, socializing with friends and attending family 
gatherings.

Elinor is survived by two daughters and
 two sons: Barbara Lambert (Dennis) of Hutchinson, Martin Scott of 
Florida, Diane Scott (Dan) of Hays, Dane Scott (Nora) of Colorado 
Springs, grandchildren: Lance Lambert (Sarah), Meghan Carafano (Luke), 
Troy Lambert (Lacy), Alicia Pino (Marc), Matthew Tucker, Tyler Scott, 
Hope Hamlin, Grace Hamlin, and Mason Hamlin, and ten great 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her 
husband of 61 years Ralph Scott, her brothers: George Yost and Larry 
Yost, and her parents Albert and Nellie Yost.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on
 Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church, Hays, with 
Rev. Christine Wagner officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be at at 2:30 pm in the 
Downs Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 8:30 am until service time on 
Wednesday at the church.&nbsp;

Presbyterian Church or Hospice of HaysMed, in care of Hays Memorial

Steven J. Thomas, age 53,&nbsp;of Hays, Kansas, died&nbsp;Friday, May 27, 2022, in Barstow, California. &nbsp;

He&nbsp;was born&nbsp;November 9, 1968, in Hays, Kansas, to John Harland and Patricia Ann &nbsp;(Leikam) Thomas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He married Carrie Christine (Silva) on February 14, 2009 at Las Vegas, Nevada.&nbsp;

He was a truck driver for over 30 years working for L-K Wireline and Acid in Hays, UPS Freight of Salina, and recently a driver for The Fleener Brothers Trucking&nbsp;of Carthage, Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;He grew up in Hays and was a 1988 graduate of Hays High School. &nbsp;He&nbsp;had a love for fast cars, loud music, fishing with his grandchildren, target shooting with his children, and time with his family. &nbsp;He was a great friend, a loving husband,&nbsp;an amazing father, and a proud Papa, wonderful&nbsp;brother, and a funny uncle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Carrie Silva-Thomas, Hays, KS; his children, Brandon Silva and fiancé Alessia Radeker,&nbsp;Hays, KS; Jordan Silva and wife, Tressidy, Hays, KS;&nbsp;Rhiannon Silva, Hays, KS; Nicholas Silva, Hays, KS; Elizabeth Silva-Thomas, Plainville. KS; Lauryn Silva-Thomas, Hays, KS; Ayva Silva-Thomas, Hays, KS; Ashley Thomas, Topeka, KS; five grandchildren; Matix Silva; Maverick Silva; Penny Dobson;&nbsp;Lily Dobson; Olivia Dobson; his brother, Sean Thomas and wife, Darcie, Wichita, KS; his mother-in-law, Christi Hoffman, CA; and his nieces, Jennifer Swenson; Haley Thomas; Mackenzie Thomas; Tyler Farnsworth; Katie Farnsworth.

A Celebration of Life Service&nbsp;will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday June 20, 2022, at&nbsp;Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd&nbsp;Street, Hays, Kansas 67601&nbsp;with Rev. Troy Miller. &nbsp;A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Monday, at the mortuary.&nbsp;

Jesse V. Gill, 80, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS. Jesse
 was born on August 12, 1941, in Thrall, TX, the son of Miguel "Mike" 
and Concepcion "Chone" (Vargas) Gill.&nbsp; On November 22, 1968, he married 
Stella Camargo in San Antonio, TX.&nbsp; To this union they were blessed with
 two girls, Velma and Lori.&nbsp; Jesse
 was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1960 to 1968, when he was 
honorably discharged after serving two tours in Vietnam.&nbsp; He joined the 
Kansas National Guard after being discharged from the Army and served 
for several years. &nbsp;&nbsp;He was a member of the American Legion Post 9, VFW 
and GI Forum all of Garden City.&nbsp; After the military, Jesse became an 
equipment mechanic for the Kansas Department of Transportation and truly
 enjoyed his job retiring after 20 years of service.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Stella on December 23, 2021, and several brothers and sisters. Jesse
 is survived by two daughters, Velma J. Gill and Lori M. Gill; two 
granddaughters, Kylie and Kayla Gill and several brothers and sisters. Funeral
 Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 20, 2022, at All 
Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with Pastor
 Bob Sinclair officiating.&nbsp; Visitation will be held on Monday, June 20,

Kenneth J Giebler, 83, of Hays passed away on June 13, 2022, in Hays.

Ken was born in Catharine on Dec. 15, 1938, to Robert M. Giebler Marcella (Leiker) Giebler.

He was a graduate of Hays High School class of 1956. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in May 1956 immediately after graduation and proudly served until honorably discharged in December 1959. On Sept. 10, 1960, he was united in marriage to Nancy R. (Chew) Giebler in St. Joseph Church in Hays. To that union, two sons, Mark and Steve, and a daughter, Christine, were born. After his navy service, he was employed by R.C. Williams Inc. in the truck and equipment maintenance department for 32 years until the company disbanded. Ken retired from Midwest Drug in December 2005 as a shipping and receiving clerk.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home, two sons, Mark F. Giebler and wife, De of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Steve Giebler and fiancé Yancy of Cimarron; Kan., daughter, Christine McGuire of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Wayne Giebler and wife Carol, Summerfield, Fla.; Dennis Giebler, Springfield, Mo., and five grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents and brother Bob Giebler. Ken was a proud American conservative who had utmost respect for the men and women serving in the military, law enforcement, first responders and the servants in the medical field, taking care of the suffering. He loved God, family and country and was a faithful fan of the Kansas State Wildcats.

He enjoyed, “Old-time country and country gospel music.” He took a knee for God and always stood for the American flag, national anthem, and the Pledge of Allegiance. He believed every conception was God’s creation and should have a chance to live as God intended. Cremation was chosen. A private graveside service is planned for a later date at the Kansas State Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney. In lieu of flowers, please donate to HaysMed Hospice in Ken’s memory. Sadie Jo Louise Arnet, 27, of Russell, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, June 10, 2022.

Sadie was born March 30, 1995, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Fred 
and Angie (Kaufman) Arnet. She grew up in Russell and graduated from 
Russell High School in the Class of 2013. She graduated from Fort Hays 
State University with a Bachelor Degree in Social Work. She then 
attended and graduated from the University of Kansas with a Master’s 
Degree in Social Work. While in school, she had an internship with St. 
Francis Ministries; after school she continued her employment with St. 
Francis Ministries as an Integration case worker and for the last year 
or so was an Adoption Specialist.

Sadie was known for her great sense of humor, her enjoyment of 
fishing, traveling, swimming and spending time at the lake, collecting 
music concert band t-shirts, being with her family and friends, and 
taking care of her families and “her kids” at work. She had no children 
of her own, but had hopes of adopting several some time in the future.

Surviving family include her parents, Fred and Angie Arnet of 
Russell, Kansas; three sisters, Rose Bender, Lee Arnet and Erica Arnet 
all of Russell, Kansas; three brothers, Nicholas Arnet, Elias Arnet and 
Benjamin Arnet all of Russell, Kansas; nephew Jaxon Arnet-Prewitt; and 
four nieces, Vanessa Arnet-Lazono, Alexandra Arnet-James, Madelynn 
Arnet-James and Isabella Arnet-James. Sadie was preceded in death by her
 maternal grandmother Norma Jean Rupp and her paternal grandparents 
Charles and Anna Arnet.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday, June 24, 
2022, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. A Celebration of her Life will 
be held with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 
PM, Friday, June 24, 2022, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler.

Dottie&nbsp;was born January 19, 1927, in Snyder, Texas. &nbsp;She was the daughter of Albert and&nbsp;Gladys M. (Gibbons) Beaty. &nbsp;Dorothy’s mother Gladys raised her two children during the depression on her own. &nbsp;It was hard times and they moved&nbsp;allot. &nbsp;Her favorite town growing up was&nbsp;Goldsmith,&nbsp;Texas. &nbsp;In the 1940s, she attended Snowden, Texas, dramatic school and studied&nbsp;acting and voice training. &nbsp;While in college, she worked as a carhop at the&nbsp;“Triple Ex”&nbsp;drive-in.

Dottie was united in marriage to Kenny Dole on June 22, 1947, in Russell. &nbsp;They were&nbsp;blessed with two children; Nancy&nbsp;and William.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were&nbsp;divorced&nbsp;after 20 years of marriage. &nbsp;Later, she was united in marriage to Marvin Brown on July 14, 1979, in Estes Park, Colorado.&nbsp; They lived in Sterling, Colorado until&nbsp;Marvin’s&nbsp;death on September 19, 2002.

Dottie&nbsp;was a member of the&nbsp;largest&nbsp;sorority&nbsp;of&nbsp;women, a Homemaker.&nbsp;In her words,&nbsp;“She tried to give her kids what she didn’t have, a home.”&nbsp;She attended Methodist Churches&nbsp;all of her life. &nbsp;She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Ladies&nbsp;V.F.W. Post #6240 Auxiliary. &nbsp;She enjoyed reading&nbsp;and staying up with the latest fashions, films&nbsp;and hair styles, collecting antiques and spending time with her family and friends.&nbsp;She created a fashion and film library for her grandson Dustin to use in his studies&nbsp;in college.

Dottie’s surviving family&nbsp;include her&nbsp;son, William Dole of Russell, Kansas;&nbsp;two grandchildren, Shane Poche’&nbsp;of Russell, Kansas and Dustin Poche’&nbsp;of Russell, Kansas; great grandchildren Hanna Chandler, Savannah Barlow and Taylor Barlow.

Pamela Sue Starbuck Patrick, age 72, passed away June 12th, 2022, at 
her home in Broomfield, Colorado. She was born on February 9, 1950, in 
Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Paul and Frances (Bendon) Starbuck. 
She married Ian Patrick on September 1, 2000, in Vancouver, British 
Columbia, Canada.&nbsp;

Pam graduated from Great Bend High School in 1968 and Kansas State 
University in 1972. She retired from The University of Colorado at 
Boulder as a Property Accountant. Pam was a lover of many things: her 
family and friends, animals, architecture, travel, and genealogy to name
 a few. She was an avid supporter of our military veterans having been 
influenced by the service of many family members, especially her father.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-daughters Sterling 
Creager and Tracy Patrick, and brother-in-law Colin Patrick. Survivors 
include her husband, Ian Patrick, loving pet companion, Rigby, brother 
Mike (Rhonda) Starbuck of Oologah, Oklahoma, nephew Andy (Trish) 
Starbuck of Colby, Kansas, niece Audrey (Craig) Dye of Oologah, 
Oklahoma, nephew Michael Patrick of Reno, Nevada, and niece Kelley 
Odriozola of LaVerne, California; great-nephews and nieces Drew and Anna
 Starbuck, Colby, Kansas, and Elliott, Darcy and Quinnlyn Dye, Oologah, 
Oklahoma, as well as numerous dear friends and family.

Celebration of life and graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., 
Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Great Bend Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, 
memorials are requested to the Great Bend Humane Society or the Great 
Bend American Legion Post 180, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Creager and Tracy Patrick, and brother-in-law Colin Patrick. Survivors 
include her husband, Ian Patrick, loving pet companion, Rigby, brother 
Mike (Rhonda) Starbuck of Oologah, Oklahoma, nephew Andy (Trish) 
Starbuck of Colby, Kansas, niece Audrey (Craig) Dye of Oologah, 
Oklahoma, nephew Michael Patrick of Reno, Nevada, and niece Kelley 
Odriozola of LaVerne, California; great-nephews and nieces Drew and Anna
 Starbuck, Colby, Kansas, and Elliott, Darcy and Quinnlyn Dye, Oologah,

Jesus Lopez Garcia, age 87 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, and formerly 
of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, passed away at the home of his daughter
 in Great Bend on Saturday morning, June 11, 2022, with his daughters and
 son and their families at his side.&nbsp; 

Jesus was born on November 20,

his life, and also worked as a security guard in Mexico.&nbsp; Jesus loved to
 tell jokes, loved to get up early and get his work done, and was very 
dedicated to his family.&nbsp; He loved to barbecue and enjoy his cooler with
 cold drinks, and loved to sing, dance, and play his guitar.&nbsp; Above all,
 Jesus loved life.

Dustin enjoyed going hunting, fishing and playing disc golf and 
softball in his spare time. He was a huge dirt track racing fan and a 
super fan of the Mizzou Tigers. Dustin worked as a scale technician for 
Fairbanks Scale Company.

He is survived by his mother Dee Ann Rodriguez of Dodge City; father 
Bill Niles of Branson, Missouri; three sisters Leticia Rodriguez and 
Sierra Rodriguez both of Dodge City; Christina Rodriguez of Amarillo, 
Texas. He is also survived by the love of his life Allyson Staab of 
Dodge City; three sons Lindon Staab and JaVon Sullivan both of Dodge 
City: Kayden Plante of Hays, Kansas as well as his grandmother Imogene 
Haddock of Dodge City and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his son Rougie Niles; grandfather John Copeland and stepfather Raul Rodriguez.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Saturday, 
June 25, 2022, at 10:00 AM with Scott Tilley presiding.&nbsp; Inurnment will

Loreta Jo “Reta” Brack, 87, passed away June 13, 2022, at Wesley 
Medical Center in Wichita. She was born July 13, 1934, at Earlsboro, 
Okla., the daughter of Willard and Lorene (Alfrey) Hill. The family 
moved to Hoisington in 1943. She attended school in Hoisington, 
graduating in 1952 and attended Business College in Oklahoma.

Reta married Karl L. Brack on September 28, 1958, and they resided in
 Great Bend. He died December 7, 2014. She worked as a secretary in the 
oil industry for many years. Reta was a member of First Christian Church
 and was an active participant in the ladies organizations of the 
church, American Legion Post #180 Auxiliary, RSVP, Great Bend Food Bank 
and the Barton County Historical Society. She was an avid golfer and was
 also a member of Lake Barton Ladies Golf Association. She delivered 
Meals on Wheels for over 20 years and was awarded Volunteer of the Year 
in 2012.

Survivors include, two sons, Brad Brack and wife Phyllis of Great 
Bend and Scott Brack and wife Rhonda of Wichita; five grandchildren, 
Ashlea Noonan and husband Ryan, Andrea Bauer and husband Rob, Lexie 
Miller and husband Karl, Zachary Brack and wife Jessica and Taylor 
Brack; and six great grandchildren, Aubrey Noonan, Ellie Noonan, Claire 
Noonan, Brock Bauer, Wesley Bauer and Mason Bauer. She was preceded in 
death by her parents; and husband, Karl Brack.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June

Joseph “Joe” L. Yeager, 73, passed away June 14, 2022, at Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas.

He was born April 6, 1949, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of James and Phyllys Sweetland Yeager.

Moving from Overland Park, Kansas, he was an area resident since 
2017. He worked in manufacturing with a career ranging from welding and 
plastics production to design and sales. Joe was a lifelong artist, 
focusing on photography, screen printing, and woodwork. He was a member 
of the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps of Great Bend, Kansas from 
1965 to 1970, marching in the corps’ color guard and rifle squad. Joe 
also served on the corps’ instructional staff during the early 1970’s.

Survivors include: his son, Patrick Yeager, Riva, Maryland; brother, 
Jeff (Jan) Yeager, Omaha, Nebraska; ex-wife, Joyce, Pasadena, Maryland; 
two granddaughters, Audrey and Lucie; two nieces, Leah (Michael) Yeager 
Schmit, Omaha, Nebraska, and Laura Yeager, Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Phyllys Yeager.

Cremation has taken place and pending arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Joseph 'Joe' L. Yeager

Clinton Duane Ream, son of George and Geneva (Reitz) Ream, was born January 9th, 1925 in Smith County, KS.  He passed away on June 10, 2022 at the Sunporch in Smith Center at the age of 97. 

Duane attended school in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School.  After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He served his country for 4 years, being honorably discharged as a Staff Sgt.  He then attended photography school in Connecticut.

On June 24, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joan Olliff.  The couple made their home in Lebanon where he was an electrician and owner of C &amp; R supply.  In 1959, the couple adopted their daughter, Kristi. 

Duane &amp; Joan Loved traveling, camping &amp; boating.  After retiring, Duane became the Mayor of Lebanon.  He was a lifelong member of the Lebanon Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald &amp; his granddaughter Alicia.

Survivors include his wife Joan; his daughter Kristi; grandson Travis Unruh; his great grandsons. Caleb, Carson, Carter &amp; Cameron Unruh; his brother-in-law, Norman Olliff &amp; many nieces &amp; nephews.

A graveside service will be held Sat. June 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sweet Home Cemetery, Smith County, with Lance McDowell officiating.

Duane attended school in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country for 4 years, being honorably discharged as a Staff Sgt. He then attended photography school in Connecticut.On June 24, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joan Olliff. The couple made their home in Lebanon where he was an electrician and owner of C &amp; R supply. In 1959, the couple adopted their daughter, Kristi. Duane &amp; Joan Loved traveling, camping &amp; boating. After retiring, Duane became the Mayor of Lebanon. He was a lifelong member of the Lebanon Christian Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald &amp; his granddaughter Alicia.Survivors include his wife Joan; his daughter Kristi; grandson Travis Unruh; his great grandsons. Caleb, Carson, Carter &amp; Cameron Unruh; his brother-in-law, Norman Olliff &amp; many nieces &amp; nephews.A graveside service will be held Sat. June 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sweet Home Cemetery, Smith County, with Lance McDowell officiating.Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00Memorial contributions may be made to the Sun Porch or the Alzheimer’s Association

Joseph Yanda, of Ellis, Kansas, died 
Sunday, June 12, 2022, at his home in Ellis.&nbsp; He was born in Quinter, 
Kansas, on October 14, 1950, to Theodore Sebastian and Lugarda 'Lou' 
(Ziegler) Yanda.

On August 5, 1978, he married Jean K. 
Morris in Oakley, Kansas. She preceded his in death just 7 months ago, 
on November 7, 2021.

Joe was a custodian at Fort Hays State 
University and was considered a jack of all trades, performing odd jobs 
and handyman work for many of his friends and family.&nbsp; He enjoyed his 
association and membership in the High Plains Longrifles and was a 
master gunsmith.&nbsp; He took pride in his family and was also a man of 
faith.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 
Friday, June 17th at 2 PM at St Mary's Catholic Church - Ellis with Rev.
 Dana Clark officiating, inurnment will follow the services in the 
parish cemetery.&nbsp;

Visitation will be Thursday, June 16th 
from 6 PM&nbsp;to 8 PM with a parish vigil service at 7 PM at Keithley 
Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637.

He is survived by a son: Dean Yanda of 
Ellis; two daughters: Jessica Smith and husband Jon of Mons, Belgium and
 Amanda Cross and husband Casey of Hays; as well as two 
grandchildren:&nbsp;Ayden, and Ella Yanda; one sister: Leaette Bandy and her 
husband Bruce of Colby, Kansas; and&nbsp;a sister-in-law: Elaine Yanda.&nbsp; He 
was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John; and his 
sweetheart, Jean.

Lester (Les) Burgardt, 73, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on June 12, 2022.&nbsp; Les was born in Hays, Kansas on September 10, 1948. He graduated from St. Francis Seminary in Victoria, Kansas, and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Psychology and a Master and Specialist Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Fort Hays State University. Les was united in marriage to Carol Ann Herl on September 27, 1968; they were married 54 years.&nbsp; He started his teaching career in McDonald, Kansas. After teaching for one year, he joined the United States Air Force. He served from 1972 to 1976. During this time, he was stationed in Washington, D.C. where he worked at the Pentagon. When the family returned to Kansas, he began his 29-year teaching career at Trego Community High School in WaKeeney. He taught social studies and coached boys’ tennis. He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, hiking, riding his bike, and playing pickleball. He was also actively involved in his church and community. Les was on Parish Council for Christ the King Catholic Church where he also served as a lector and sang in the choir. He was a member of Lion’s Club since 1976 and had served as secretary for many years. Les belonged to the local Knights of Columbus chapter. He worked at the Blood Mobile and gave blood frequently. After his long teaching career, he continued his service to education through the Trego Community Foundation for Educational Excellence of which he was a board member and was president for many years. Les is survived by his wife, Carol Burgardt, his two children: Bobbie Dinkel and husband Danny of Hays, Kansas, Jeff Burgardt and wife Christine of Catharine, Kansas, four grandchildren: Tyler (Ashley) Dinkel, Danielle (Austin) Spencer, Kade Burgardt, Asher Burgardt, three great-grandchildren: Evelyn Dinkel, Tucker Spencer, Lorelei Dinkel, his sisters, LeeAnn Zielinski of Port Saint Lucie, Florida and Linda Schmidt and husband Kevin of Bradenton, Florida, his brother Dennis Burgardt and wife Janet of Salina, Kansas, his brother-in-law Tim Schmidt of Hays, Kansas. Lester Burgardt

Jack T. Dunn Jr., 80, passed away on June 13, 2022, at University of
 Kansas Medical Center – Great Bend Campus in Great Bend, Kansas. He was
 born on October 21, 1941, to Jack T. &amp; Bessie (Pease) Dunn in Welch,
 Okla. Jack married Cheryl Thompson; they later divorced. On December 
17, 1965, he married Janet Mullen in Great Bend, Kansas. She passed away
 in 1981. He then married Joann Boling on November 9, 1990, in Great 
Bend.&nbsp;

A long-time resident of Great Bend, Jack worked for many years as a 
chemical engineer for Davis Mud and Chemical, Inc., followed by 35 years
 in IT for Doonan Trailer. He loved spending time riding his motorcycle 
and with his family.

Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Bradley (Teri) 
Thompson of Elk City, Okla., Jack T. (Jennifer) Dunn, III of Eudora, 
Kan., Michael (Cathy) Dunn of Leavenworth, Kan., and Dusty (Dusty) Davis
 of Ennis, Tex.; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. 
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Mullen; his parents; a 
daughter, Michelle Dunn; and a brother, James Dunn.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A funeral 
service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Bryant 
Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Inurnment 
will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to
