Maxine (Fisher) Meyer was born January 6, 1924 in Clay Center, Kansas to
 Earl D. Fisher and Carrie (Hahn) Fisher. She passed away on Friday, 
July 1, 2022, at the age of 98.
 	Maxine attended Country Elementary School and graduated from Clay 
Center Community High School in 1941. On September 12, 1942 she married
 Richard Meyer and they celebrated 66 years of married life. She was a 
homemaker until 1964 when she was employed at the Smith County State 
Bank &amp; Trust Company starting as a Teller and retiring as Vice 
President and Trust Officer.
 	She was an active member of the United Methodist Church serving in 
most of the offices in the church and the United Methodist Women. She 
was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Smith Center Business 
&amp; Professional Women and Chapter AE of PEO. She served on the Smith
 Center Library Board for several years. Her focus was always on her 
home and family, and she was very proud of the achievements of her 
children and grandchildren.
 	She was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Joshua Yenne, 
three brothers and a sister. Left to celebrate her life are her 
children Gary (Mary) Meyer, Huntley, IL, Kenneth (Suzanne) Meyer, 
Prescott, AZ, Diane Meyer, Lawrence, Kathy (Jack) Yenne, Smith Center; 
nine grandchildren Yancy (Krista) Meyer, Michael (Kim) Meyer, Chris 
(Becky) Meyer, Sarah Strydom, Bekah Phelan, Kate (Duane) Crafton, Carrie

Judd Thomas Cherryholmes, infant son of Cole Thomas and Nikki Kay (Delzeit) Cherryholmes,&nbsp;Hays,&nbsp;passed away&nbsp;Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

After his parents learned about Judd’s sickness, this little fighter lived for another 118 days in his mommy, achieving the status of “full-term baby."&nbsp; The family wasn’t promised any of this time, but during it, Judd’s family made the most of it. &nbsp;Judd&nbsp;was often serenaded by his big brother Walker and his duet partner Kollins. &nbsp;Judd experienced the zoo, pool, camping, and fishing. &nbsp;He heard constant prayers, conversations, and nightly “special secrets” shared by his big brother and sister. &nbsp;Judd even got the unique opportunity to experience his mommy’s baptism with the rest of the family. &nbsp;

Did Judd live? &nbsp;You bet he did. &nbsp;And, the first time Judd opened his eyes, he looked into the eyes of Jesus. &nbsp;From that moment he has seen and experienced things we couldn’t begin to imagine. &nbsp;Judd’s family is so grateful for the time they had with him, and they are so thankful that God chose them to be his family.

William 'Bill' W. Nelson

Leo John Hall, 87, passed away July 2, 2022, at the University Of 
Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kansas. He was 
born on December 3, 1934, at Great Bend, Kan., to Leo &amp; Bertha 
(Woods) Hall. On January 31, 1971, he married Jane Francis Buser at St. 
Mary's Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Wichita.&nbsp; She died April 3, 
2013.

A lifetime resident of Stafford County, Leo graduated from Great Bend
 High School, then later proudly served his country in the Army, 
stationed at Fort Riley. He spent his professional life as a farmer and 
rancher, especially enjoying wheat harvest, knowing all the other 
harvests were soon to follow, and providing jobs and meals to many. Leo 
was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose, fourth degree 
member of Knights of Columbus, Eucharistic Minister – both in church and
 delivering to those home bound, National FFA Farmer, and a member of 
the North Seward Township for around 25 years. He was a former member of
 the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Seward, St. John the Apostle 
Catholic Church of St. John, committee member for the Prince of Peace 
Parish Endowment and finance council member of the Prince of Peace.

Survivors include a son, Leon Francis Hall of Great Bend, Kan.; a 
daughter, Barbara Jane (Daniel) Hall-Grizzell of Great Bend, Kan.; a 
daughter-in-law, Lea Hall of Great Bend, Kan.; and seven grandchildren, 
Samuel John Hall, Emilee Anastasia Hall, Jacob Francis Hall, Kelli Jane 
Hall, Karen Ann Hall, Kinze Danielle Grizzell, and Kyla Marie Grizzell. 
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Mary 
Elizabeth Sims; and a son, Leonard Carl Hall.

Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, 
July 6, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Knights of Columbus Rosary 
and Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30
 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with 
Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend 
Cemetery.

Delora Mae Donovan was born in 1936 at the country-home of Jerome and
 Lenora Donovan at the end of the dustbowl days in Hoisington, Kansas. 
Delora grew up with her siblings Gerald, Melva and Marvin. A vigorous 
volunteer for many non-profit organizations and an activist for 
progressive social causes, she traveled to China with the Peace Corps, 
helped build a church in Zimbabwe, canvassed voters with the League of 
Women Voters, visited Kazakhstan four times, supported Planned 
Parenthood and donated to classical opera organizations.

Awarded a scholarship from the Hoisington Hospital Women’s Auxiliary,
 she pursued a successful career in nursing at St. Luke’s School of 
Anesthesia, St. Francis University and K-State. She actively lobbied the
 legislature in Topeka in the 1970s on behalf of the Kansas Association 
of Nurse Anesthetists, and also served as its president from 1978-1979. 
She worked at various hospitals around Kansas, delivering hundreds of 
babies and providing anesthesia on surgeries, until finally retiring at 
the age of 77.

In 1996, she became a host-mother to Timur Bekbosunov, who came to 
live with her from Kazakhstan. She legally adopted him in 2011, becoming
 a mom at the age of 75. A passionate fan of contemporary opera and 
classical music, she became a founding trustee of the Art of Opera 
Foundation in 2009.

An avid gardener, she cultivated numerous flowers in her garden and 
spearheaded a community garden in the Riverside. She held numerous 
volunteer positions with the United Methodist Women, the North Riverside
 Neighborhood Association, Open Door, Interfaith Ministries and 
supported the Democratic Party. She was highly active at the Woodland 
United Methodist Church, contributing countless hours over decades by 
serving on every imaginable church committee, the Youth Group, Bell 
Choir and after-school children programs, while creating beautiful 
quilts for over 20 years with her beloved Woodland Quilters group.

She was devoted to her four-legged family members, Brittany dogs. 
Whether it was delivering neighborhood newsletters, serving meals to 
homeless, or supporting women’s rights, Delora firmly believed in the 
spirit of giving back to the society. She was a brave and strong woman, 
who courageously battled her pancreatic cancer for over a year after a 
stage IV diagnosis. This was a testament to her vibrantly inspiring 
perseverance. She passed away on March 24th, 2015, surrounded
 by loving family. Delora is survived by her brother Gerald, son Timur 
and a large multigenerational family. Memorial service was held on April
 26th, 2015.

Services for her final resting place will be held July 8, 2022, with 
family to receive friends at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home beginning at 3
 p.m. At 3:30, there will be a time of sharing and scripture followed by
 the inurnment ceremony at the graveside, in Hoisington Cemetery. A 
memorial service will be held on July 9, at 2 p.m. at Woodland UMC, 1100
 W 15th St N, Wichita, 67203.

Kurt Alan Pechanec, 63, McCracken, Kansas, passed away Thursday, 
June 23, 2022, at the Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.

Kurt was born February 10, 1959, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of 
Frank B. and Mary Ann (Scheideman) Pechanec.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident
 of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1977 graduate of La Crosse High School, La 
Crosse, Kansas, Kurt also received an Associate’s Degree in Animal 
Science from Barton County Community College, Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; He 
was a heavy load truck driver for Skillet &amp; Sons, La Crosse, Kansas,
 for 27 years.

On August 19, 2000, he married Laura Crawford in an outdoor wedding at La Crosse, Kansas.

Kurt was a very dedicated worker. He took pride in his work at 
Skillet &amp; Sons, along the way logging in more than a million miles 
and was working on his second million. While at home he enjoyed working 
in his yard, spending time with his family while working with the 
cattle. He was an excellent horseman, team roper and cutter. Kurt grew 
up in 4-H and enjoyed helping his kids and others during the fair. He 
was always willing to lend a hand. &nbsp;

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Laura Pechanec, McCracken, Kansas; one 
daughter, Kassandra Pechanec, McCracken, Kansas; one son, Garrett 
McCormick (Maddy Key), McCracken, Kansas; one granddaughter, Harper Jean
 McCormick, McCracken, Kansas; his mother, Mary Ann Pechanec, La Crosse,
 Kansas; and one sister, Pam Rose (Sam), Gainesville, Texas

Per Kurt’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation.

A private family inurnment will take place in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

The family will be celebrating Kurt’s life at a gathering to be held 
at the Rush Center Township Hall, Rush Center, Kansas, on Sunday, August
 14, 2022, at 2:00 P.M.

Marilyn Morgan, 91, La Crosse, Kansas, formerly of Bison, Kansas, 
passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Rush County Memorial Hospital 
Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Marilyn was born May 3, 1931, in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, the 
daughter of Merle Markley and Ruth (Stotts) Markley.&nbsp; She was a resident
 of Bison, Kansas, since 2003, moving from Lincoln, Kansas, where she 
lived from 1967 to 2003.&nbsp; A 1949 graduate of Cottonwood Falls High 
School, Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.

On April 8, 1951, she married Jesse Clinton “J. C.” Morgan in Strong City, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death July 2006.

Marilyn worked with her husband, J. C., as co-owners/co-operators of G
 &amp; H Auction, Ellsworth, Kansas, for many years.&nbsp; Through the years,
 she also worked in the screen printing department of Century 
Manufacturing, Lincoln, Kansas, and JJ’s Country Store, Lincoln, Kansas.

She was also well known to be quite the artist and did many 
beautiful, no two the same, and very detailed, hand painted gourds, wood
 spindles, and a wide variety of unique creations.

She had a heart of gold and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Survivors include:&nbsp; one son, Michael Morgan (Angee), Lyndon, Kansas; 
three daughters, Linda Achterberg (Duane), Hays, Kansas, Gail Nielander 
(Wray), Kinsley, Kansas, and Sally Williams, Bison, Kansas; nine 
grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one 
grandchild, Darren Achterberg; two brothers, Maurice Markley, and Monty 
Markley; and one sister, Marcheta Ginther.

Betty Maxine Kirk (Sowers)

Ruth Arlene (Dixon) Williams, 67, passed away on June 13, 2022, in 
Marion, Ind., surrounded by her kids and grandkids. She was born in 
Centerline, Mich., on June 13, 1955, to Gerald and Alice Dixon, and 
raised in Great Bend, Kan., by her father and mother, Helene Freeman. 
Ruth was the only daughter and oldest sibling to brothers Albert “Bert” 
and Gerry Dixon.

Ruth moved to John Day, Ore., and graduated from Grant Union High 
School in 1975. She married Arnold Morin, with whom she had a son, 
Jason. Ruth later joined the Navy in the late 1970’s, where she met and 
later married Clayton Exferd, with whom she had a daughter, Kelly. She 
then married Kenny Miller and became a stepmother to Karen. In 2002, she
 married Ken Williams, and they remained married until his passing in 
2016.

After moving back to Great Bend, Ruth worked in the Great Bend 
Tribune Classifieds Department during the late 1980’s. In 1990, she 
moved with her children back to Oregon and worked different jobs to 
support her family. Starting in 1999, Ruth took on her favorite role in 
life as a grandma and was blessed with her grandkids: Madison, Kendall, 
Faith, Hope, Ryan, Jonas and Molly. Aside from spending time with her 
family, she enjoyed traveling and never met a stranger. Ruth had many 
adopted kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she 
cherished.

Ruth is survived by her son, Jason (Michelle) Morin of Converse, 
Ind.; a daughter, Kelly (Joel) Jones of Union, Ore.; a brother, Gerry 
(Carrie) Dixon of Hopatcong, N.J.; grandchildren, Madison Exferd, 
Kendall Exferd, Ryan Jones, and Molly Grimm; a niece, Kathrine Dixon; a 
nephew, Blake Dixon; life-long best friend Jody (Craig) Bucl; and 
numerous cousins and relatives. She was preceded in death by her late 
husband, Ken Williams; her parents, Gerald and Helene Dixon, Alice 
Hatchel; a brother, Bert Dixon; grandchildren, Faith, Hope, and Jonas 
Morin; all of her grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

Graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, 
July 9, 2022, at Browns Grove Cemetery in Burdett, Kan., with Reverend 
Dick Ogle presiding and United States Navy and American Legion honors 
performed. A celebration of life will follow from noon to 2:00 p.m. at 
the Eagles Club in Great Bend, Kansas.

Fritz K. Kramer, 93, Ellis, died June 29, 2022 at Hays, KS.

He was born February 7, 1929, in Berlinchen, Germany, to Otto and Pauline (Domke) Kramer.

He attended basic schools and music school in Tönning, Germany.&nbsp; Fritz migrated in 1951 to the USA, staying at Nekoma, Kansas.&nbsp; He then attended Fort Hays State University for two years and taught Music for one year in Liberal, Kansas, after which he was drafted and served as an interpreter at the US Army Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany.

Returning to the US, he finished his Master’s Degree and taught Orchestra in Hutchinson, Kansas for six years.&nbsp; In 1960, Fritz married Glenda Heany at Clayton, Kansas.&nbsp; He worked toward a doctoral degree at Greeley University, after which he taught Music at Lamar County Community College. &nbsp;

The family bought a campground in Colorado.&nbsp; Fritz taught Music in the small Colorado town of Cotopaxi.&nbsp; In 1981, the family moved back to Hays, Kansas where Fritz taught Orchestra for several years, even after retirement.

At Lamar, CO, he directed several musicals and two small operas.&nbsp; His groups in Hays received consistent high ratings.&nbsp; He also directed the First Presbyterian Church choir at Hays for 23 years. In 2008-09, Fritz received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kansas Chapter of the American String Teachers Association – National School Orchestra Award.

Fritz is survived by his wife, Glenda, three children and ten grandchildren; son, Eric (Charol) of Johnson, KS; grandchildren Jacob Kramer of Norton, KS; Diedre Kramer of Pratt, KS;&nbsp; William Mechem of Grand Island, NE;&nbsp; Ron Charles Andrade of Johnson, KS; Ronnie Andrade of Johnson, KS;&nbsp; daughter, Christiana (Todd Lynd) of Hays, KS; grandsons Trey Lynd of Fort Collins, CO; Chase (Becca) Lynd of Severance, CO; daughter, Kara (Micah Howery) of Liberal, KS;&nbsp; grandchildren, Alaura Howery, Tirzah Howery, Kai Howery of Liberal, KS; &nbsp;and one sister, Edie (Kramer) Thomm of Ponca City, OK.

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Sharon (Struthers) Lovitt, the morning of June 26, 2022, at the age of 84.&nbsp;

Sharon
 was born to Cecil and Frances (Pat Stegman) Struthers of Rozel, KS, in 
1938. She attended Rozel High School and Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; 
Sharon married William (Bill) Lovitt of McCracken, KS in 1958.&nbsp; The 
couple owned and operated Lovitt’s Propane and Appliance in Ransom for 
many years while also farming in Rush and Ness Counties.&nbsp; Sharon was a 
true woman of faith and deeply involved in her church.&nbsp; Mom cherished 
her friends throughout the community, but her greatest love was her 
family.&nbsp; In our eyes, she handled all situations with grace, class and 
compassion.&nbsp; We all hope to live up to her fine example. &nbsp;

 is survived by her five children, Kathy (Jeff) Hurd, Brad Lovitt,

 </figure>It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Sharon (Struthers) Lovitt, the morning of June 26, 2022, at the age of 84.&nbsp;Sharon
 was born to Cecil and Frances (Pat Stegman) Struthers of Rozel, KS, in 
1938. She attended Rozel High School and Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; 
Sharon married William (Bill) Lovitt of McCracken, KS in 1958.&nbsp; The 
couple owned and operated Lovitt’s Propane and Appliance in Ransom for 
many years while also farming in Rush and Ness Counties.&nbsp; Sharon was a 
true woman of faith and deeply involved in her church.&nbsp; Mom cherished 
her friends throughout the community, but her greatest love was her 
family.&nbsp; In our eyes, she handled all situations with grace, class and 
compassion.&nbsp; We all hope to live up to her fine example. &nbsp;Sharon
 is survived by her five children, Kathy (Jeff) Hurd, Brad Lovitt, 
Jennifer Lovitt, Teresa Lovitt and Lora (Scott) Faiman as well as her 5 
grandchildren; Rae, Eric, Clay, Austin and Audra. &nbsp; She is preceded in

Sharon (Struthers) Lovitt

Willard Darrow Riggs, 97, passed away June 23, 2022, at Garden Valley 
Retirement Village, Garden City, Kansas. He was born in Warren, Ohio, 
January 22, 1925, to Ralph W. and Blanche (Cryer) Riggs. 
 	When he was six years old the family moved to Kansas, north of Hill
 City. In 1933 they moved to Louisiana, returning to Kansas later that 
same year, living southwest of Hill City. Willard attended grade school 
at the Miller District 32 School. He graduated from Hill City High 
School in May of 1943 and then joined the United States Army Air Corps 
in September of 1943, serving during World War II. Stationed in 
Norfolk, England, Willard was a tail gunner on a B-24 named the “Shack 
Rabbit”. He successfully completed 35 missions over Germany, a number 
far exceeding the average. 
 Willard was introduced to Betty Marie Critchfield by a 
mutual friend at a 4-H party in 1940. He was a freshman in high school,
 and she was an eighth grader. Willard courted Betty with trips made to 
the Morland area on his homemade scooter with a Maytag motor. They 
shared letters sent to each other on the same day, when the train which 
traveled east to Hill City later returned to Morland. The couple also 
corresponded throughout World War II. After the war they were united in 
marriage June 1, 1947, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church near Studley, 
where they faithfully attended services until they moved to Hill City.
 Their first home was southwest of Hill City. While living 
on the farm their two daughters, Linda and Pat, and a son, Arnold, were 
born. In addition to farming Willard also sold Cowvita, a supplement for
 calves. He was so busy with those sales that he eventually sold the 
farm in 1956 and the family moved to Penokee. About four years later, 
Willard took a job with the Douglas Chemical Company out of Kansas City,
 selling fumigants to grain elevators. Willard also became licensed to 
apply it. He was extremely successful, earning “Salesman of the Year” in
 1959. After spending so much time on the road and away from his 
family, he quit the Douglas Chemical Company to spend more time with his
 family. Every summer they vacationed in Colorado, doing lots of 
camping and fishing, which the entire family enjoyed. In 1974 Willard 
and Betty moved to Hill City. Willard opened an antique and used 
furniture store. He was also a licensed auctioneer.
 After retirement, among other things, Willard and Betty 
spent their time traveling, often mixing pleasure with business by 
selling grandfather clocks in malls along the way. They also enjoyed 
camping with the Good Sams Camping Club. Following Betty’s death in 
February of 2018 Willard remained in Hill City for a time. By late fall 
of that year, he decided to move to Garden City. He was closer to his 
children and could lean on them for some help if needed. One of 
Willard’s favorite pastimes was playing pinochle every Tuesday at the 
senior center. He was very competitive, hoping to win the traveling 
trophy awarded each week, and very proud when he had the high score and 
had possession of the trophy until the next week. 
 Willard was preceded in death by his parents and his 
brother Allen. Survivors left to honor his memory include his two 
daughters Linda Lansdon and Pat Landon and one son Arnold Riggs, all of 
Garden City; five grandchildren: Tracy Collins and husband Mark, 
Michelle Myers and husband Eric, Ryan Herrman, Trisha Lewis and husband 
Dan, and Adam Riggs; six great grandchildren: Mackenzie Collins, Cameron
 Collins, Amber Myers and husband Landon, Karter Myers, and Tulsyn and 
Kreaton Riggs; and two great-great grandchildren Vincent and Aurora.

Willard D. Riggs

Carlos Dean Murphy, 89, died June 25, 2022, at Hospice House. He was 
born July 28, 1932, in Dighton, to John and Ella (Walters) Murphy, the 
youngest of 12 children.

Carlos graduated from Dighton High School in 1950 and received his 
bachelor’s degree in business and master’s degree in economics from Fort
 Hays State University. He served in the United States Navy from 
1952-1956. A Hutchinson resident since 1963, Carlos was a vocational 
rehabilitation counselor for SRS for over 30 years, retiring in 1996. He
 was named Counselor of the Year and Regional Counselor of the Year for 
the State of Kansas. Carlos loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed playing 
cards, especially Texas Hold ‘Em. Carlos was a member of Park Place 
Christian Church, a lifetime member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post
 #68, and a member of the city horseshoe league and was instrumental in 
organizing the pits at Rice Park. He also worked at the Kansas State 
Fair every year for 25 years and volunteered at the NJCAA basketball 
tournament for 40 years.

On June 15, 1958, Carlos married Barbara L. Hamby, in Hays. They shared 64 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are: his sons, Shannon Murphy of Hutchinson, Scott 
Murphy and his wife Dr. Marieke Wolfe of Wichita; daughter-in-law, Jo 
Murphy of Overland Park; grandsons, Kyle Murphy, Sean Murphy, Ryan 
Murphy, Nigel Murphy, Seamus Murphy and fiancé Chenin Wilson; and many 
extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, son, Kelly Murphy (who died in 2020); and 11 siblings.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. 
Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams, 
Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. David Dubovich officiating. To view

Carlos Dean Murphy

Patsy Ann Barnard, 87, was reunited with her beloved husband of 66 
years, Jack Barnard, on March 2, 2022.&nbsp; Jack passed away on March 27, 
2020.

Patsy passed away peacefully at Whispering Pines Retirement Home in 
Norton, Kansas.&nbsp; With her at the time of her passing were her daughters,
 Judy and Jennifer, and her son, Carter.

Patsy was born on May 19, 1935, in Smithville, Missouri, the youngest
 of three children of Thomas and Gladys Witt. She was preceded in death 
by her husband, Jack, her parents, her brother, Richard Witt, her 
sister, Doris Moore, and one great-great granddaughter.&nbsp; She is survived
 by four children, and their spouses, Jennifer and Greg, Judy, Carter 
and Jeanne, Kelly and Tracy.&nbsp; In addition, she is survived by nineteen 
grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and four great-great 
grandchildren.

Patsy grew up in Harrisonville, Missouri. &nbsp;As a young girl, she 
perfected her tree climbing skills, and was the only girl allowed in the
 Monkey Club.&nbsp; In high school, she went on to become a standout 
basketball player, as well as the homecoming queen.&nbsp; On July 10, 1954, 
at age 19, she married Jack Barnard.&nbsp; They lived briefly in&nbsp;Troy, 
Lancaster, and Cameron, Missouri, before moving&nbsp;to Norton, Kansas in 
1973. &nbsp;Patsy worked as a dental hygienist, and in a sewing factory.&nbsp; She
 used the skills she learned from the sewing factory to make beautiful 
dresses and clothes for her children.&nbsp; She became especially experienced
 at mending the knees in her boy’s jeans.&nbsp; She also worked as a nurse’s 
aide, again, frequently applying the knowledge she learned to patch up 
her raucous children.&nbsp; Finally, she worked at First State Bank for 25 
years where she retired as Head Teller.&nbsp; In addition to working at the 
bank, she served her community as a school board member for several 
years.

Most people knew Patsy as Pat, a lot of people called her mom, and 
she always had love to share with anyone who was in need.&nbsp; Pat was as 
tough, kind and intelligent as she was beautiful.&nbsp;

There were numerous times she taught young men twice her size a 
lesson in humility.&nbsp; If they were feeling their oats, being a bully or 
just trying to show how tough they were, she would take them to the 
ground and tell them, “An old lady just put you on your butt, don’t make
 me do it again”.&nbsp; If you were on the receiving end of that take down, 
you always knew it was with love, but the point was made.&nbsp;

Pat was a wise and caring person, and she was always ready to extend a
 helping hand.&nbsp; She had a framed saying on the back porch.&nbsp; It said, 
“All are welcome. Leave your dirty shoes and language at the door”.&nbsp; 
They were words she lived by; all were welcome with open arms and no 
judgement.&nbsp; At one time, there were six children living in her house, 
only three were her own.&nbsp; All she asked of them was to pick up after 
themselves. &nbsp;She always made time to listen to your troubles and always 
had words of encouragement.&nbsp; When life was difficult, she would say, 
“Just keep on keeping on, don’t give up."&nbsp; Let there be no 
misunderstanding of her kind heart, she was also a person of principle, 
and would let you know if you might need to rethink things.

Pat had a great sense of humor and a mischievous streak.&nbsp; She could 
give a good ribbing and go back and forth with the best of them.&nbsp; She 
loved a good joke, usually the naughty ones, which she heard a lot of 
through the years working at the bank.&nbsp; She loved to tell a good joke as
 well and would laugh out loud with such joy after telling them.&nbsp; She 
also liked to burn rubber every now and then in the family’s hot rod van
 with the three on the tree.&nbsp; She would light the tires up in first 
gear, catch second and third with a screech, then grin ear to ear and 
say, “don’t tell your dad." She did this all while wearing a dress and 
heels. Yep, she was quite a dame.

Pat was an accomplished cook and baker. She had to be to feed her 
ravenous boys, all their friends and Jack’s appetite for sweets, 
especially fudge.&nbsp; Pat had many hidden talents.&nbsp; She could tickle the 
ivories like no body’s business and sing like a bird, although, she 
would only sing in church.&nbsp; She sang with such clarity, her voice 
sounded like a bell ringing with perfect tone. &nbsp;Regularly, people in 
front of her would turn around and tell her what a beautiful voice she 
had.

Pat, Christian, Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great Great 
Grandma, Friend, Beauty Queen, Tom Boy, Class Act, Beautiful inside and 
out, truly one of a kind.&nbsp; Her heart and spirit were so large; she was 
full of everything good, what a wonderful human she was.&nbsp; She will live 
in our hearts forever and we are better for it.&nbsp; If you knew her, you 
were blessed.&nbsp; If you wronged her or cut her out of your life, shame on 
you.&nbsp; But know that she would smile and say, “it’s alright, I will 
always love you”.

Jack was born in Archie, Missouri, on the family farm January 3rd, 1932.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patsy Ann (Witt) Barnard and their four children and spouses, Jenifer and Greg, Judy, Carter and Jeanne, Kelly and Tracy.  In addition, he had 14 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, with another one on the way, and 2 step great great grandchildren.

He graduated from Archie Highschool in 1948 and joined the naval reserves in 1950 where he served until 1958.

He graduated from Kansas State University in 1954 with a BS Major in Agronomy and a minor in Ag Economics.  He went on to get his Masters of Science from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1967.

Jack’s given name was James Erwin Barnard.  James, being a prominent Barnard first name, he legally changed his name to “Jack”, after he continued to receive other James Barnard’s mail.  When the clerk asked him what he wanted his middle name to be, he said, “Jack, just Jack, no middle name needed”.  That was Jack, matter of fact.  If you knew Jack, you know he always had a smile, something positive to say and probably a good story to go along with it.  Jack was good to the marrow.  He was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, hunter, marksman, fisherman, scholar, athlete, salesman, TV weatherman, gardener, story teller (all true), jokester, driver (no more than 2 miles per hour over), although in later years his foot seemed to grow heavier…  A quick story Jack probably never shared, but one that we’re proud to tell of him.  Jack was at a large agricultural convention in Denver Colorado, with both domestic and foreign agricultural secretaries present.  The main speaker was not able to appear, so they asked Jack if he could step in and say a few words on the subject.  Without any preparation, he gave a 45-minute oration that ended with a standing ovation.

Jack was the most honest, ethical man I have ever known, he was the greatest example of outstanding morals and character anyone could be, and something everyone should aspire to be.  I am so proud to be able to have called him my dad.  He was a man of few opinionated words, often his support and caring were not spoken but shown through his actions, he was always ready to lend a hand.  Jack walked the walk rather than talk the talk. 

Jack, who had never been to a doctor until he was in his 80’s, went through very intrusive medical procedures the last few years of his life.  Even through all of his pain and uncertainty, he still joked with his doctors and nurses and made them smile.  They all stated what a joy it was to care for him, and our family thanks them all.  A really good human has left us, his indelible smile and patriarchal personality will be with us always.

Jack was cremated and asked to have part of his ashes spread on his family farm in Archie Missouri where he grew up.  He will be buried on a hillside overlooking the farm.

Norman Hansen, 90, of Colby, KS died June 29, 2022, surrounded by his 
loved ones. Norman was born to Louis and Annabelle Hansen in rural 
Howard County, NE, on December 12, 1931. He was baptized and confirmed 
on January 26, 1947, at Peace Lutheran Church in Nance County, NE. He 
attended rural grade schools in Howard and Nance County, NE, and 
graduated from Belgrade High School in 1949. 
Norm married Edna Oltmanns at Peace Lutheran Church on January 13, 1952,
 and together they celebrated 70 years of marriage this past winter. To 
this union three sons were born: Bruce (1953), Brian (1954) and Brad 
(1956). 
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church since moving to Colby in 1966. 
Throughout his career Norm worked at, owned, and/or managed numerous 
local businesses, including: JM McDonalds, T&amp;W Electronics, Hansen 
Electronics/Radio Shack, C.R. Anthony, London Fog, and Colby Canvas. 
Norman is survived by wife Edna, sons Bruce (Tina) Hansen of Colby, KS, 
Brian (LouAnn) Hansen of Andover, KS and Brad (Sebrina) Hansen of 
Brewer, ME; grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron, and Audra Hansen, Chandi 
(Kevin) Reed, Tyson (Robyn) Reed, and Maura (Aaron) Geist; 
great-grandchildren, Jayden Reed, Raeth, Thorin and Xavien Worthy, Lynk

Norman Hansen

Peggy A. Muffitt, 82, was called by her lord and savior on Monday June 
27, 2022, at Emerald Nursing Home in Cozad, Nebraska. She was born on 
November 9, 1939, at Dodge City the daughter of Charles &amp; Mattie 
(Morehead) Garton, Jr. She married Fred E. Muffitt on March 4, 1959, at 
Dighton. He died on January 10, 2018. 
Peggy graduated with the class of 1957 from Dighton High School. She 
enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WACS). After her discharge two 
years later married and became a homemaker. 
She loved family time, especially playing games such as wahoo, 
horseshoes and kick the can. She enjoyed canning, gardening, music, her
 walks, dancing and bowling. She was a tremendous cook and a friend to 
many people. 
She is survived by her Daughter Mattie Duckworth of Lexington, Nebraska,
 Son- Fred Lee Muffitt of Dighton, 3 Grandchildren- Justin Emerson of 
Dighton, Dennille Borell of Arnold and Sheridan Schaben of Ness City and
 5 Great-Grandchildren- Kain Emerson, Seth Emerson, Drake Woods, Hudson 
Woods and Aiden Shull. She is preceded in death by her Parents, 
Husband, 2 Daughters- Linda Schaben and Lolene (Elly) Emerson and 
Sister- Linda Lou Hayden. 
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at First Christian Church 
in Dighton with Pastor Steve Payne officiating. Burial will be in 
Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM 
Friday at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton.
