Charles T. “Chuck” Schmidt, 90, of Auburn, Ind., died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at his home. Chuck was born March 14, 1932, in Hays, Kansas, a son of the late Bernard and Katherine Schmidt. 

Chuck was a graduate of Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL, and then received a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and earned his MBA from the University of Chicago. His first job was as a first line supervisor on the manufacturing floor. His second was serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean war, being stationed in the Marshall Islands. From there, he returned to manufacturing and working his way up until he became a Plant Manager for Borg Warner, the company that brought him to Auburn. When the local plant sold, he became President of the new Auburn Gear. 

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn and was a 40-year choir member. He was also the past Chairman of the board at the ACD Museum, past President of the YMCA, co-founder of HOPE (Help Our Pupils Excel), past member of the Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Illinois, had received the Allen Graber Good Citizen Award in 2007 and was an avid golfer at Greenhurst Country Club. 

Survivors include his wife Mary Schmidt of Auburn; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Sonja Schmidt of Macomb, IL, Joe Schmidt of Auburn and Dave and Jennifer Schmidt of Arlington, VA; daughters and a son-in-law, Lorie Schmidt of Alexandria, VA and Nancy and Jim Gramentine of Lake Worth, FL;  five grandchildren, Ben Gramentine, Nate Gramentine, Sam Schmidt, Christopher Schmidt and Nicki Schmidt; sisters and a brother-in-law, Thelma Wagner of Northlake, IL and Jean and Dale Fredricks of Lafayette, CA; brother-in-law, Tom O’ Brochta; sister-in-law, Mary Schmidt. 

 He was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Schmidt and Lawrence Schmidt; and sisters, Edith Mills, Ann O’Brochta and Marie Schmidt. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday with visitation one hour prior at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 500 E. Seventh Street, Auburn. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. with a vigil service starting 4 p.m. at Pinnington Funeral &amp; Cremation Services 502 N. Main Street Auburn. Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Auburn.

Carol Jean Heller, 90, of Salina, Kan., passed away on Wednesday, 
August 10, 2022. She was born on October 2, 1931, in Norton County, 
Kan., to Curtis and Elizabeth (Lathrop) Kelly.

Carol graduated nursing school in 1952 from St. Luke’s Hospital, 
Kansas City. On November 8, 1953, she and Donald Max Heller were united 
in marriage in Norton.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Marlene Edwards (Dennis), 
Sundance, Wyo., Marilyn Rose (Paul), Palmetto, Fla., and Martha Smith, 
Salina; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Don.

A private service and burial will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Bob Cook, 97, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 10th, 2022. 
Bob was born in St. Francis, Kansas, on November 8, 1924, a son of Arthur Robert Cook and Irene (Carlson) Cook Weis. 
He worked in soil conservation, road construction, and owned and operated Cook Mobile Home Service. 
Bob served during WWII in the United States Army as a paratrooper from 1944 - 1946. 
On May 25, 1950, Bob married Beverly M. Shores in Goodland, Kansas. 
Bob and his daughter, Cathy were avid world travelers, specifically to 
Costa Rica, Europe, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and throughout the United 
States. He loved to visit his nieces and nephews and friends at the 
Salina VFW and American Legion Posts. 
Bob looked forward to family get-togethers, holidays, cook-outs, and other events. 
He was also blessed to be able to take the Kansas Honor Flight #12, 
April 30-May 2, 2014, and the Dream Flight on August 26, 2021. 
Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Boll, (Joe Miller) of Salina, 
Kansas; granddog, River; step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; 
and nieces and nephews. 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Fred Weis; 
grandparents, John and Izzy Carlson; wife, Beverly; son, Dale Cook; 
sisters, Jeannette Baxley, and Ruby Morton.

William 'Bill' Dible

Beverly Jean (Bishop) Smith passed away on June 26th
 at her home in Salina after battling Leukemia, surrounded by family. 
Beverly was born on April 18th, 1937, in Wichita, KS to Adelbert “Ebby” 
Bishop and Anna Laura (Winter) Bishop. She grew up in Derby, KS and 
graduated from Derby High School. She went on to get her B.A. in 
Secondary Education from Friends University in Wichita, KS. 

After 
graduating, she accepted a teaching position with Rozelle High School in 
Rozelle, KS where she lived for two years. She then moved to Mankato, KS
 where she became the Jewell County Extension Agent for three and half 
years. This is also where she met her future husband, Jack Smith.

Beverly moved to Salina, KS and worked for the Saline County 
Extension Service for ten years. In this period, she also married Jack 
and obtained her master’s degrees in both Family &amp; Childhood 
Development and Consumer Economics from Kansas State University in 
Manhattan, KS. &nbsp;

After taking a few year years off to raise their two boys, Beverly 
went back to work as an Associate Professor at Kansas Wesleyan 
University where she taught for 17 years. She served on many committees 
and was a faculty member for Kansas State University for 13 years before
 retiring from Kansas Wesleyan. Before she officially retired, she was a
 consultant for Mid-American Nazarene, Baker University, Ottawa 
University and Saint Mary’s University.

Throughout her life she volunteered for many groups including being a
 camp counselor for 20 years, and a 4-H community leader. She was an 
administrator for the Salina Track Club/Junior Olympics and took many 
groups of students on trips to New York and 4-H members to Washington 
D.C. Beverly was also a member of the First Christian Church in Salina, 
where she taught Sunday School and served on the board.

Her interest included travel, cooking, sewing, sports and attending 
community theatre. She spent her last few years, taking care of her 
husband and adoring her grandkids.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Jack A. Smith, both of 
her parents and her siblings Paul Bishop and Juanita “Bishop” Meissen.

She is survived by her son’s Jeffrey Alan Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Matthew Lynn Smith of

Overland Park, KS and her four grandchildren: Ethan Alexander Smith, 
Rachel Louise Smith, Owen Jeffrey Smith, and Nathan William Smith. Along
 with her nephews Greg Meissen of Wichita, Steve Meissen of 
Fayetteville, GA and Gerald Winkle of Puyallup, WA.

Memorial Service will be held for Beverly and Jack on August 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Beverly Jean (Bishop) Smith

Harold Dallas “Bud” Wolfe, 86, passed away August 11, 2022, at the 
University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. He was born on 
November 20, 1935, at Lorraine, to Harold &amp; Thelma (Reed) Wolfe. He 
met the love of his life Lois Marie Bowman in the spring of 1965 on a 
blind date. On July 4th, 1965, Bud asked Lois to marry him and on November 20, 1965, they were married in Galesburg, Kan.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Bud worked in the oilfield for many 
years and loved to talk about it. He also worked in the gym at Barton 
Community College and for the City of Great Bend until his retirement in
 1991. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and loved his 
church family. Bud especially loved to spend time with his family. &nbsp;

Survivors include, his wife, Lois Wolfe of the home; two children, 
Tina Curran (Tom) and Tim Wolfe all of Great Bend; four grandchildren, 
Rosie Berger (Dagan), Kyrie Bair (Mal), Logan Wolfe and Lakin Wolfe; 
three great grandchildren; and a very special cousin, Patti Wolfe Bailey
 (Vernon). He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard 
Wolfe; and a sister, Shirley Ewald.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 15, 
2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to
 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 
16, 2022, at First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend, with Pastor 
Josh Foster presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.

Thomas Charles Cape, 29, of Colby, died Monday, August 9, 2022. He was 
born in Las Vegas, NV, on February 17, 1993. Thomas loved to sing and 
participate in Choir. He graduated from Colby High School in 2014. He 
also enjoyed sports and bowling. Thomas was very friendly and loved 
being around people, which served him well at his job as a Walmart 
Greeter. 
He is survived by his parents, Mark and Sheila Lavigne, of Levant; 
sisters, Pari Pearson, Maia Cape, Kacee Lavigne and Randee Lavigne; 
brother Tyler (Assunta) Lavigne and niece and nephew, Alex and Jace 
Harper.

Thomas Charles Cape

Stephen Garrison, 66, of Fort Dodge, died August 4, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
 Stephen James Garrison, son of James and Lois (Brown) Garrison, was 
born June 2, 1956 in Smith Center, KS. He graduated from Osborne High 
School in 1974 and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from 
Kansas State University. He was employed with Iowa State Extension which
 brought him to Fort Dodge, IA in 1979. For a time, he sold Apple 
Computers and later owned and operated a flooring business, Floor 
Doctors.

He’d be remembered as the tall FD Dodger fan who always wore a 
cowboy hat. Steve didn’t know a stranger, was very funny and 
intelligent. He loved being around dogs, working with his hands, as he 
was a master woodworker, carpenter and an excellent cook and baker. He 
enjoyed car racing in all forms. Steve loved his family and time spent 
together. He was an active member of New Covenant Church until his 
health declined.
 Survivors include his stepchildren: Rachel (Mike) Reavis of Newton, 
Colin (Ashley) Panzi of Ankeny, and their children Braxton and Bates, 
Chris (Baylie) Panzi of Clive and their children Veda and Callahan, his 
siblings: Tom Garrison of Indianapolis, Becky (Robert) Jones of 
Amarillo, TX, and his nieces Allison Jones of Amarillo, TX and Abigail 
Jones of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 
sister-in-law Regina Garrison.

 brought him to Fort Dodge, IA in 1979. For a time, he sold Apple 
Computers and later owned and operated a flooring business, Floor 
Doctors. He’d be remembered as the tall FD Dodger fan who always wore a 
cowboy hat. Steve didn’t know a stranger, was very funny and 
intelligent. He loved being around dogs, working with his hands, as he 
was a master woodworker, carpenter and an excellent cook and baker. He 
enjoyed car racing in all forms. Steve loved his family and time spent 
together. He was an active member of New Covenant Church until his 
health declined.

Colin (Ashley) Panzi of Ankeny, and their children Braxton and Bates, 
Chris (Baylie) Panzi of Clive and their children Veda and Callahan, his

Amarillo, TX, and his nieces Allison Jones of Amarillo, TX and Abigail

Joseph Andrew Dreiling, 85, died Monday, August 8, 2022, at Halsey Hall 
at the Kansas Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge, Kansas. He was born March 10,
 1937, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Joseph P. &amp; Anna (Burgardt)
 Dreiling. 
 Joseph grew up as a young child in Holcomb, Kansas. In the early 
1940’s, he moved with his family to Garden City where he attended Garden
 City Schools. Joseph served in the United States Army from 1959 to 
1961. After the service, he returned to Garden City. On November 29, 
1962, he married Janis Elaine Breit in Garden City. In 1970, they moved
 to Deerfield, Kansas where they have lived since. Joseph worked in 
various jobs throughout his life including the Garden City Telegram, the
 Sugar Beet Factory, Kempers, served as manager at Western Alfalfa, 
worked for various farmers, and for the Garden City Great Western 
Railroad. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2795 in Garden 
City, and enjoyed spending his time hunting, shooting and reloading 
ammo, and boxing which he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren. 
 Survivors include five children Joey Dreiling of Great Bend, 
Kansas, Becky &amp; husband Kim Norton of Ankeny, Iowa, Chris &amp; wife
 Susan Dreiling of Deerfield, Kansas, Terry &amp; wife Birgit Dreiling

Yancy Allen Feck, 56, passed away August 9, 2022, at his home in 
Great Bend. He was born on February 21, 1966, at Amarillo, Texas, to Bobby
 &amp; Shirley (Surface) Feck. He married Michelle Blankenship on 
January 29, 1999, at Great Bend. &nbsp;&nbsp;

A longtime resident of Great Bend, Yancy sold chemicals throughout 
the Midwestern United States to oilfield companies. He enjoyed riding 
his Harley Davidson and going to the lake. He also could be found 
working on his rental properties and flipping houses. Yancy’s main joy 
in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and spouse 
but he also developed an inseperable bond with Yodi his Schnoodle over 
the last several years.

Survivors include, his wife, Michelle Feck of the home; a son, Wyatt 
Feck and two daughters, Shania Feck and Mallory Damon and husband 
Brenden all of Great Bend; his mother, Shirley Feck of Ellinwood; three 
brothers, David Feck and his wife Diane of Conway, SC, Monte Feck and 
his wife Lori of Winfield and Shannon Feck and his wife Samantha of 
Eureka; a sister, Cynthia Patterson and her husband Keith of Great Bend;
 two grandchildren, Myah and Brantley Damon; numerous nieces and 
nephews; and two great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, 
Bobby Feck.

TJ Reever, 46, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, died Thursday, July 28, 2022, at his home from COVID-19.

He was born September 15, 1975, in Hays,
 Kansas, the son of Richard and Janet (Myers) Reever.&nbsp; TJ graduated from 
Thomas More Prep-Marian High School and attended Fort Hays State 
University.&nbsp; He worked in IT security for several corporations in Kansas
 City, and although he called Kansas City home for 25 years, his heart 
was always in Hays.

Survivors include his five children who
 were the light of his life: Ethan, Marissa, Delilah, Payton, and 
Brooklyn, five siblings: Dale Reever, Traci Burney and husband Jim, 
Marci Handley and husband Steve, Jami Reever and husband Kim Simons, and
 Kyle Reever and wife Heather, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Mike Reever.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm

LaVone Perkins, 80, died Monday, August 8, 2022, at her home in Dodge City, Kansas.

She was born on December 21, 1941, at Dodge City the daughter of James
 and Philomena “Minnie” (Windholz) Perkins. She was a lifetime area 
resident. She owned and operated “Big Nasty’s” in Dodge City and worked 
as a paralegal for Judge Reynolds.

LaVone loved to joke around and be onery with everyone, even if it 
was your very first-time meeting. She enjoyed being with her family and 
spending time with them.

Survivors include: 3 children, Eva Crouse and Fletcher, Kingsdown, 
Kansas, Winston Crouse and wife Georgia, Salinas, California and James 
Crouse, Concord, North Carolina; 3 sisters, Alice Moore and husband 
Dennis, Texas, Lorraine Trent, Dodge City, and Barbara Perkins, Dodge 
City; 2 brothers, Jim Perkins and wife Jeanni, Dodge City and Donnie 
Perkins and wife Donna, Hutchinson, Kansas; 8 grandchildren and 11 great

LaVone Perkins

Dr. Terry D. Smith, 81, passed away August 9, 2022, at Diversicare of Larned, Larned, Kansas.

He was born June 2, 1941, in Argonia, KS, the son of T. Dale Smith and
 Faye Weist Smith. He graduated from Larned High School in 1959. He 
attended Pratt Community College from 1959-1961. He became the National 
Junior College Singles’ tennis champion in 1961 for which he was 
inducted into the Pratt Community College Hall of Fame in 2021. He then 
attended the University of Kansas for 1 year before entering dental 
school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City from which he 
graduated in 1966.

Terry served 2 years in the United States Navy. He was honorably 
discharged as a Lieutenant Commander in 1968. He then returned to Larned
 with his wife and family where he established his dental practice. He 
retired in 2018.

On June 24, 1962, he married Charlene Rae Stewart in Larned, KS. She 
passed away November 20, 2001. On July 19, 2003 he married Jill Rochelle
 Christensen in Larned, KS. She survives.

Survivors include: one daughter, Doris (Jack) Tebow, Quinter, KS; 3 
sons, Troy (Cindi) Smith, Larned, KS, Dr. Trent (Julie) Smith, Larned, 
KS, Tad (Tara) Smith, Shawnee, KS; 12 grandchildren; and one 
great-grandson. Other survivors: two brothers, Theo (Linda) Smith, 
Logandale, NV, Clay (Judy) Smith, Larned, KS; one sister, Bonita Meyers,
 Wichita, KS.

Terry was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Larned, KS. 
He was a longtime member and past president of the Noon Lion’s Club. He 
achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a Boy Scout and later served as a 
troop leader. He enjoyed an active lifestyle including tennis, bowling, 
shooting sports, racquetball, golf, running, and bicycling. His other 
hobbies included hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He was an avid 
life-long bird watcher. He loved the Lord, his family, and the KU 
Jayhawks. He was truly BLESSED.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Beckwith Mortuary, 
Larned on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ryan

Dr. Terry D. Smith

Cynthia Rae Wittman, age 72, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 19, 
2022, at her home. She was born January 28, 1950, in Russell, Kansas, 
the daughter of Albert F. and Helen L. (Frederick) Wittman. 
Cindy was raised in Russell and graduated from Russell High School. She
 continued her education at Ft. Hays State University and earned a 
Bachelor of Science Degree in Education; a degree which she used for 40 
years. Cindy taught first grade for one year and then devoted her time 
and energy into being a librarian. She began her career in Arlington, 
Nebraska, then Cozad, Nebraska, Hutchinson and Ulysses, Kansas. Cindy 
was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, KNEA and GCTA, and donated her time 
at Loaves and Fishes. She also worked part-time at Pioneer 
Communications and the Grant County Library for many years.

Cindy lived
 her life for her faith, family, and friends. She was a longtime member
 of Grace Lutheran Church. She was very active in the church and helped
 wherever she was needed. Cindy’s family and friends were everything to
 her. Her nephew, nieces, great-nephew and great-nieces were the apple 
of her eye. She doted on them constantly. If you ever met Cindy, you 
were soon her friend. She cherished her friends. They would meet 
regularly for meals, and she kept in touch with them all. She will be 
remembered as a very generous and loving person with a heart of gold. 
Cindy is survived by her sister, Jane Vanek of Hays, Kansas; nephew, 
Justin Vanek and wife Sami of Hays, Kansas; nieces, Jennifer Gronniger 
and husband Glen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jessica Mobilia and 
husband Adrian of Frankford, Delaware; great-nephews and great-nieces, 
Jacob, Gwenyth and Jayce Gronniger, Maci and Miley Vanek, and Reilly 
Mobilia and a host of friends. 
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen Wittman; sister, Karen Sue Wittman; and brother-in-law, James Vanek. 
Memorial service will be held Friday, August 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM at 
the Grace Lutheran Church in Ulysses with Reverend Santi Keinbaum 
officiating. A family inurnment will be held at the Russell City 
Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.

 </figure>Cynthia Rae Wittman, age 72, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 19, 
2022, at her home. She was born January 28, 1950, in Russell, Kansas, 
the daughter of Albert F. and Helen L. (Frederick) Wittman. 
Cindy was raised in Russell and graduated from Russell High School. She
 continued her education at Ft. Hays State University and earned a 
Bachelor of Science Degree in Education; a degree which she used for 40 
years. Cindy taught first grade for one year and then devoted her time 
and energy into being a librarian. She began her career in Arlington, 
Nebraska, then Cozad, Nebraska, Hutchinson and Ulysses, Kansas. Cindy 
was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, KNEA and GCTA, and donated her time 
at Loaves and Fishes. She also worked part-time at Pioneer 
Communications and the Grant County Library for many years. Cindy lived
 her life for her faith, family, and friends. She was a longtime member
 of Grace Lutheran Church. She was very active in the church and helped
 wherever she was needed. Cindy’s family and friends were everything to
 her. Her nephew, nieces, great-nephew and great-nieces were the apple 
of her eye. She doted on them constantly. If you ever met Cindy, you 
were soon her friend. She cherished her friends. They would meet 
regularly for meals, and she kept in touch with them all. She will be 
remembered as a very generous and loving person with a heart of gold. 
Cindy is survived by her sister, Jane Vanek of Hays, Kansas; nephew, 
Justin Vanek and wife Sami of Hays, Kansas; nieces, Jennifer Gronniger 
and husband Glen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jessica Mobilia and 
husband Adrian of Frankford, Delaware; great-nephews and great-nieces, 
Jacob, Gwenyth and Jayce Gronniger, Maci and Miley Vanek, and Reilly 
Mobilia and a host of friends. 
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen Wittman; sister, Karen Sue Wittman; and brother-in-law, James Vanek. 
Memorial service will be held Friday, August 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM at 
the Grace Lutheran Church in Ulysses with Reverend Santi Keinbaum 
officiating. A family inurnment will be held at the Russell City 
Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the
 Grace Lutheran Church or Loaves and Fishes in care of Garnand Funeral

Jerry Lee Winter was born January 5, 1935, in rural Kit Carson County, Colorado, just southwest of Kanorado, Kansas, to Wayne and Sylvia (Armitage) Winter.&nbsp;Jerry lived his entire life in the Kanorado area&nbsp;where&nbsp;he attended school and graduated with the class of 1953.

On July 14, 1953, he married Melba Coons. &nbsp;They lived on a farm southeast of Kanorado and eventually moved their house to a half mile south of Kanorado where they raised their three sons. &nbsp;Jerry and Melba milked cows for a few years, farmed and Jerry&nbsp;began aerial spraying with his father. &nbsp;He&nbsp;continued to run Winter Flying Service after his father retired and&nbsp;was an aerial spray pilot for&nbsp;over 45&nbsp;years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jerry enjoyed building things&nbsp;and&nbsp;incorporated that with his passion&nbsp;of aviation when he built a&nbsp;snowplane&nbsp;utilizing an aircraft engine.&nbsp;He&nbsp;later&nbsp;built a&nbsp;flat bottom&nbsp;boat,once again using an aircraft engine.&nbsp;

While in&nbsp;high school&nbsp;he participated in football, basketball and baseball&nbsp;and later played town team&nbsp;basketball and summer softball. &nbsp;He spoke often of these experiences. &nbsp;Jerry and Melba were proud supporters of their children and grandchildren and spent many hours and miles following their&nbsp;activities.

He was proceeded in death by&nbsp;wife Melba (Coons) Winter&nbsp;in October&nbsp;of 2021,&nbsp;his parents A. Wayne&nbsp;Winter and Sylvia&nbsp;(Armitage)&nbsp;Reynolds, brother Don&nbsp;(Joyce)&nbsp;Winter. &nbsp;He is survived by sons Gary (Deb) Winter of Kanorado; Larry (Janet) Winter of Fairbury, NE; Terry Winter of Parker, CO. &nbsp;Six grandchildren: &nbsp;Sean (Shawndra) of Colorado Springs, CO; Blake (Molly) of Wheat Ridge, CO; Jonathan (Emily) of Fairbury, NE;&nbsp;Aubrea&nbsp;(Beto) of Goodland, KS; Lane (Britney) of&nbsp;Castle Rock, CO; Shane (Carly) of Fairbury, NE. &nbsp;Twelve great-grandchildren also survive.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 10 AM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home.

Maurilyn Denise "Deni" McConnell accepted her Divine invitation to a celestial home on August 5, 2022, in Oklahoma City. 
 Born in 1945, Deni graduated from Hays High School in 1963 where she 
was active playing trumpet in multiple bands and orchestras, and from 
FHKSC in 1968. She taught high school for a year in Herrington, KS and 
was a legal secretary for several law firms after moving to Oklahoma. 
She was assistant editor of Sister Advocate newspaper for three years 
and in 1983, published her poem “Avengin’ Annie” in Patriarchy Malarkey 
while working to pass the ERA. She also helped produce Olivia Womens 
Music concerts and donated time and energy to Herland Bookstore in OKC. 
She was a lifelong feminist, rock hound, astronomy and animal lover. She
 is survived by best friend and tireless caregiver, Sandra Jones, 
sister Vicki P. McConnell (Denver), and longtime friends Teresa Madden 
and Carol Miller of OKC. Previously deceased are her parents Wayne J. and Dorothy R. Mitchell McConnell, both of Hays, Ks.

Maurilyn Denise 'Deni' McConnell

Dale G. Pelton, 63, died Monday, August 8, 2022, at his home in Wilroads Gardens.

He was born December 3, 1958, at Oceanside, California, the son of Ted
 and Josephine (Dailey) Pelton.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Hanston High 
School and a Dodge City resident since 2007.&nbsp; He worked in maintenance 
at Park Plaza Towers, Dodge City and currently at Dodge City Community 
College.

He attended Abundant Life Family Church in Dodge City and enjoyed 
fishing, grilling outside, chopping firewood, gardening, and spending 
time with his wife, kids, grandkids and his dogs. He loved reading the 
word of God and listening to messages on TV by Kenneth Copeland 
ministries. He was a devoted Christian and shared the love of Christ 
everywhere he went.&nbsp;

On February 14, 1996, he married Lynn Cryer at Garden City.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include: 7 children, Kyle Pelton and wife Melissa, 
Littleton, Colorado, Krystal Crist and husband Dan, Deerfield, Kansas, 
Andy Thayer and wife Brittney, Hays, Kansas, Gilbert Thayer and wife 
Heather, Springhill, Kansas, Jeff Thayer, Grand Junction, Colorado, Mark
 Groneman and Mary Dawn, Amarillo, Texas and Millie Spicer and husband 
Rick, Samburg, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren, Madisyn Groneman, Mason 
Groneman, Lane Archie, Elizabeth Archie, Taylor Jackson and husband 
Justin, Jocelyn Thayer, Myles Thayer, Bowen Thayer, Easton Thayer, 
Scottie Thayer, Levy Crist, Gabriel Crist, Erica Crist, Bailey Crist, 
Damian Pelton and Devin Pelton; 1 great granddaughter, Brinley Jackson; a
 brother, Dan Pelton, Lansing, North Carolina; and a sister, Joyce 
Johnson, Santa Cruz, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Bill Mahr and Ted “Butch” Pelton and a sister, Marjorie Mahr.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 am Monday, August 15, 2022, at 
Abundant Life Family Church, Dodge City with Pastors Jim and Lydia Ames 
officiating.&nbsp; There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken 
place.&nbsp; Friends may sign the register Friday, August 12, 2022, from 10:00
 am to 5:00 pm Friday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.

Elmer D. Svaty left this life surrounded by family Aug 7th, 2022, which 
was his and Karlene’s 66th Wedding Anniversary. Elmer was born October 
25, 1934, on the farm in Ellsworth County, Kansas. The son of Victor and
 Ruby (Belt) Svaty. Elmer spent his early years on the farm south of 
Sylvan Grove, the family later moved to Lucas where Elmer lived the 
remainder of his life. Elmer graduated from Lucas High School in 1952. 
 He married Karlene Sheets in 1956 and the couple was blessed with 5 
children, Tina, Jim, Jean Ann, Lynette and Tom. 
 Elmer enlisted in the army in 1955, and was stationed at Fort Bliss 
El Paso Texas, and Mainz Germany. He was honored to participate in the 
Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2018. After his military service, Elmer
 returned to Lucas where he worked for his father at Quality Oil Co and 
became the owner/operator of that business in the early '70s.
 In 1959 Elmer joined his father-in-Law working at Lucas Motor 
Company. He became the owner/operator in 1966, selling cars to many 
people across the country. Most of Elmer’s customers became lifelong 
friends. During his years as a Ford Dealer, Elmer served on the Ford 
Dealers Advertising Fund (FDAF) Board of Directors and achieved many 
awards and accolades. 
 Elmer loved his community and took pride in serving Lucas and the 
greater area. He was a member of the Lucas Lyons Club, Chamber of 
Commerce, the Bank Board, Director of the Library Board, Official Board 
of the United Methodist Church and City Council. Elmer held the record 
for many years for being the youngest mayor in Kansas at age 21. He 
also was a member of Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Russell 
Shrine Club, Shriners Clown Unit and served on the USD 407 School Board 
for 15 years. He was the Republican Committeeman for Fairview Township, 
Lucas Sunflower group and the Mr. &amp; Mrs. Club.
 Elmer was a car enthusiast. His pride and joy was his ’66 Red 
Mustang Convertible. He loved driving it in parades and escorting the 
queens for Homecoming and the Czech Festival for many years. 
 He was preceded in death by his Parents Victor and Ruby Svaty, 
In-laws Bill and Kris Sheets, Sisters Doris Cooper and Dodie Smith, 
Brothers-in-laws John Sheets and Dean Cooper, Granddaughter Julie Gier, 
Son-in-law Rodney Dick.
 Elmer is survived by his Wife Karlene of the home. Children: Tina 
(Paul) Simpson, Hays, KS; Jim Svaty, Lucas, KS; Jean Ann (Kevin) Thayer,

Elmer D. Svaty

Family members are sad to announce the passing of Steve Rome of Hugoton,
 Kansas. Steve was 69 years old and died on August 8th at St. 
Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He passed from this life 
surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. 
 Steve was born on March 7, 1953, in Garden City to Dave and Evelyn 
Rome. The family moved to Hugoton, Kansas to begin a farming operation 
when Steve was one year old. He was a graduate of Hugoton High School in
 1971 and went on to complete an Agronomy degree from Fort Hays State 
University in 1975. He was a member of Delta Sigma Chi Fraternity while 
attending school there. He began his career by going to work for the 
Kansas State Extension field and research center in Garden City, and 
then went on to be the Agronomist for the Garden City Cooperative.

Steve enjoyed using his expertise and friendly personality to work 
alongside many farmers in the Garden City area. While working at the 
Coop, he met his future wife, Robynn Ridenour, and they were married in 
Garden City on April 3, 1982. When his father retired from farming, the 
couple moved to Hugoton, and Steve continued the irrigated farming 
operation along with his brother Keith Rome. A few years later, another 
brother Dave Rome joined the farming operation and over the next 40 
years, they built a very successful and large irrigated farming 
operation. 
 Steve and Robynn raised two children – Jennifer, born in 1984 and 
Justin, born in 1986, both of which graduated from Hugoton High School. 
The family are members of the First Christian Church in Hugoton where, 
through the years, Steve was active in Sunday school, children’s church,
 bible study and various church committees. He also served as Deacon for
 the church. 
 Steve’s civic duties were numerous. He served on the Stevens County
 Extension Board, City Council and the Economic Development Committee in
 Hugoton and won the Shakers and Movers award for his work on leading 
the development of independent gas utilities for area irrigated farmers.
 Realizing this need and benefit for area irrigation farmers was a 
passion for Steve at the time. He made numerous trips to Topeka to 
testify before state congress, and worked with countless resources, 
lawyers, lawmakers and the state groundwater and natural gas agency to 
see legislation and regulations passed for the benefit of the area 
irrigated farmers. 
 Steve also represented the agricultural profession by serving 20 
years on the Kansas Corn Growers Association and the Kansas Corn 
Commission where he used his experience and expertise in agriculture to 
benefit farmers across the state. 
 Steve will be remembered for his unfailing work ethic, his friendly 
personality, his professionalism and fortitude in seeing effective 
issues accomplished, and his willingness to come at any time to help a 
neighbor or friend in need. 
 Steve is preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and Dave Rome, and 
his sister Diane Johnson of McPherson, KS. He is survived by his wife, 
Robynn, of Hugoton, his daughter Jennifer of Omaha, NE, and his son 
Justin of Hugoton. He is survived by his three brothers – Richard Rome 
and wife Connee, Keith Rome and wife Lisa, and Dave Rome and wife Lori, 
all of Hugoton, along with his two sisters Carol Birdsell and husband 
Bill of Kansas City, MO and Mary Rome of Louisville, KY. He will be 
greatly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews, along with many 
extended family members and friends who will greatly miss him. 
 Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Steve’s 
life on Thursday, August 11th, at 2 PM at the First Christian Church in 
Hugoton with a graveside service to follow at Hugoton Cemetery. 
Visitation is Wednesday, August 10th from 2 PM until 8 PM with family 
greeting friends from 6 PM until 8 PM at Garnand Funeral Home, 920 E. 
11th St., Hugoton.

Steve Rome

Gary Lee Durland, 82, passed away on August 6, 2022, at Kentwood 
Plaza, in St. John, Kan. Gary was born in Lindsborg, Kan. on March 1, 
1940, to Olin and Mabelle (Peterson) Durland, who also gave him a 
brother, Bobby Jack. The family later moved to Lyons, Kan., where Gary 
graduated from Lyons High School and then continued his education in 
Kansas City, where he graduated from auto-mechanic school.

Following graduation, Gary moved to Dodge City, Kan., where he met 
the love of his life, Mary Louise Kohn. They married on November 17, 
1962, and shared 7 children and 54 wonderful years of marriage prior to 
her passing on January 14, 2018. After moving to Great Bend in 1964, 
Gary worked at Big A/Car Quest Auto Parts Store and Sanko Motors, and 
later drove bus for the Center and the Senior Center. Along with work, 
he spent many hours enjoying his woodworking hobby. He was extremely 
talented and, at one time, had 81 wood carvings in the house - excluding
 the ones he enjoyed giving away. Gary was a man of deep faith and love 
for the Lord and showed this as a member of Prince of Peace Parish, 
through worship, being a religious education teacher, and a communion 
minister.

Survivors include two sons, Ron (Diane) Durland of Great Bend and 
David (Angela) Durland of Spring Hill; four daughters, Barbara (Delbert)
 Downey of Wright, Jeanette (Brian) Standlee of Belvue, Linda Durland 
and Carla Durland, both of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; three 
great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Galen (Doris) Kohn; sister-in-law 
Sandy Kohn (Jerry Hale); cousins, Betty Ludwig and Eldon Peterson; and 
several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; a son, 
Gregory; his parents; and his brother.

Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, 
August 11, 2022 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving at 6:00 
p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be
 held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2022, at St. Rose of Lima 
Catholic Church with Father Bob Schremmer presiding. Interment will 
follow at Great Bend Cemetery.

Gary Lee Durland

Kenneth Leroy Hanson Sr., age 83, of Randolph, passed away Saturday August 6, 2022, at the Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born on March 25, 1939, in Manhattan, the son of Kenneth and Leona (Jensen) Hanson.&nbsp; He graduated from old Randolph High School in 1957.

On June 1, 1958, in Salem, Missouri, he married Bonnie Jean Burkman.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Kenneth graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University with a teaching degree and began his career at Lewis, Kansas, for two years, Randolph for two years and then Logan, Kansas for 27 years.&nbsp; During this time, he earned his master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; In 1997, he returned to Blue Valley to become the Middle and High School principal, retiring in 2004.&nbsp; Following his retirement, he continued to substitute teach and drive a school bus until he turned 80.

He was a member of the Alert Covenant Church and enjoyed riding horses, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp; During his many years of teaching and coaching, he made a positive impact on many of his students and athletes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Kenneth Hanson Jr. and wife Debbie of Salina, Christine Marshall and husband Cullen of Solomon, John Hanson and wife Lee Ann of Baldwin City and Julie Weidenhaft and husband Brandon of Hays; three brothers, Melvin Hanson of Hutchinson, Gene Hanson of El Dorado and Steve Hanson of Manhattan; two sisters, Shirley O’Quinn of Bartow, Florida and Wanda Murphy of Milwaukie, Oregon; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sons, Stephen and Karl Hanson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Alert Covenant Church with Pastor Dwight Diller officiating.&nbsp; The family encourages all in attendance to wear clothing from their favorite sports team.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery.

Kenneth Leroy Hanson Sr.

Warren L. Landauer, 61, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Hays, KS to Milfred and Twila (Rohr) Landauer. &nbsp;

Warren’s faith was important growing up in the Catholic Church.&nbsp; He 
was an altar boy in his youth and went on a six-week mission trip to 
Brazil in 1979.&nbsp; He was a Boy Scout and a member of the Order of the 
Arrow honor society. &nbsp;

Warren was a self-proclaimed jack of all trades, master of none. He 
was a CNC operator and maintenance supervisor but most of all loved 
being a farmhand, herdsman and cowboy. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents. &nbsp;

He is survived by his daughters, Sophie Landauer and Amanda Yonker; 
son, Wesley Landauer; and sisters; Donna Mays Wanda Mitchell, and Rhoda 
Jo Wray.

A rosary and vigil service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, 
August 11, 2022, with a Funeral Mass following at 1 p.m. all at St. 
Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Salina.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in All

Warren L. Landauer

Constance Lucille “Connie” Eulert, 81, of Russell, Kansas, and former
 Paradise, Kansas resident, died on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the 
Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Connie was born on July 11, 1941, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter
 of Donald and Nova (Alderson) Stamey.&nbsp; She grew up in and attended 
school in Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She met fell in love and was united in 
marriage to Harold Otto “Harry” Eulert on January 23, 1960, in Hays, 
Kansas.&nbsp; Connie and Harry made their home in Paradise, Kansas and from 
this union they were blessed with 2 daughters Corianne Lea and Sherri.&nbsp; 
She helped Harry work the family farm but also worked at the Russell 
County Court House Appraiser’s Office and worked as a travel guide for 
Please Go Away Vacations.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of the Peace 
Lutheran Church in Natoma, Kansas and enjoyed traveling and watching 
survivor with her daughter Sherri.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending 
time with her family, she especially enjoyed spending time and spoiling 
her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her daughter Sherri L. Glenn and husband 
Ken; her sister Pam Herrman and husband Stan of Littleton, Colorado; her
 5 grandchildren Chris and Heather Glenn, Breanna Eulert, Sara Fattig 
and Ashley Jones; and &nbsp;5 great grandchildren Parker Jones, Ambree Glenn,
 Wyatt Fattig, Morgan Fattig &amp; Daylin Glenn-Homewood and nieces and 
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry on September 
15, 2007, and daughter Corianne Lea Eulert on March 19, 2017, 2 infant 
children, brother Gary Stamey and sister Lila Johnson.

A gathering service will be held from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. on 
Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in 
Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Open visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. on 
Thursday, August 11th with the gathering service and family 
greeting guests Thursday evening.&nbsp; 

Memorials may be given to the 
Fairport Cemetery and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp;

this union they were blessed with 2 daughters Corianne Lea and Sherri.&nbsp; 
She helped Harry work the family farm but also worked at the Russell 
County Court House Appraiser’s Office and worked as a travel guide for 
Please Go Away Vacations.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of the Peace 
Lutheran Church in Natoma, Kansas and enjoyed traveling and watching 
survivor with her daughter Sherri.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending 
time with her family, she especially enjoyed spending time and spoiling 
her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Surviving family include her daughter Sherri L. Glenn and husband 
Ken; her sister Pam Herrman and husband Stan of Littleton, Colorado; her
 5 grandchildren Chris and Heather Glenn, Breanna Eulert, Sara Fattig 
and Ashley Jones; and &nbsp;5 great grandchildren Parker Jones, Ambree Glenn,
 Wyatt Fattig, Morgan Fattig &amp; Daylin Glenn-Homewood and nieces and 
nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry on September 
15, 2007, and daughter Corianne Lea Eulert on March 19, 2017, 2 infant 
children, brother Gary Stamey and sister Lila Johnson.A gathering service will be held from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. on 
Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in 
Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Open visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. on 
Thursday, August 11th with the gathering service and family 
greeting guests Thursday evening.&nbsp; Memorials may be given to the 
Fairport Cemetery and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp; 
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the 
funeral service arrangements.&nbsp; A reception dinner will be held after the
 gathering service on Thursday evening at Meridy’s restaurant in 
Russell, Kansas.
