Iris Emma Schafer, 69, of Gorham, Kansas, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the Russell Regional Hospital E.R. in Russell, Kansas.
Iris was born on July 29, 1953, in Mesa, Arizona, the daughter of Louis A. and Emma (Hardt) Schroeder. She lived in Mesa at an early age and spent most of her childhood living in Yates Center, Kansas, graduating from Yates Center High School. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Geary Schafer on October 04, 2001, in Russell, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2021. She enjoyed cooking and worked for many years as a cook at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell, Kansas. She was known for making the best bierocks but because they took so much time to make, she often had her family begging her to make them. She loved playing and spending time with her four precious dogs. She especially loved spending time with her family and spending quality time with her grandchildren.
Surviving family include sons Loren Schroeder and wife Shannon of Junction City, Kansas, and Wayne Light and wife Julia of Jacksonville, Florida, and daughter Tammie Krayca and husband Bob of Wilson, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, Victoria, Emma, Jordan, Christina, Michael, Ava, McKenna and Mason; and one great grandchild, Delaney.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Geary.
A celebration of Iris’ life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Dorrance City Cemetery in Dorrance, Kansas. Viewing will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Monday evening.
