Betty M. Swartz, age 67 years, longtime Great Bend, Kansas, resident, passed away at her home in Great Bend on Tuesday afternoon, October 18, 2022. Betty was born on October 18, 1955, at Danville, Illinois, to Leon and Ileta (Morgeson) Burton, and raised by Willard and Ileta Schuckman. She worked as a Machinist for FMC Corporation at their plant in Hoopeston, Illinois, for 11 years, after moving to Great Bend in 2003 was employed by Oversize Warning Products Inc. in Great Bend for many years. Betty was an accomplished quilter and seamstress, and also sewed and sold handmade quilts. She loved quilting and sewing, puzzles, and outdoor activities including Sand Rails.
Survivors include her longtime companion Leland “Lee” Zerr of Great Bend, Kansas; one son Jason Grove of Great Bend, and one daughter-in-law Amy Grove of Great Bend; one grandson Tyler Grove; two sisters: Donna Brazda of Hoisington, Kansas and Kim (& Keith) Frank of La Crosse, Kansas; nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Mont Burton.
According to her wishes, cremation has been chosen and inurnment will take place in the La Crosse Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas, at a later date.
