Christine "Chris" Herl,&nbsp;56, of&nbsp;Quinter, Kansas, passed peacefully away on&nbsp;the morning of September 14th, 2022. Chris was born in&nbsp;WaKeeney, Kansas, on&nbsp;April 12th, 1966, to Janice (Jan) and Nicholas (Nick) Arnhold. She&nbsp;graduated from&nbsp;Trego Community Highschool&nbsp;and Kansas State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Education.

Chris was united in marriage to Robert Herl&nbsp;on&nbsp;June 11, 1988; they were married for 34 wonderful years. Her passion in life was teaching and helping students. She taught for&nbsp;34 years; 30 of those years were at Trego Community Schools in WaKeeney, Kansas.

&nbsp;Chris had a kind soul. She always went the extra mile to make sure everyone had the ability to succeed in life. Even as an experienced educator, she felt that there was always more to learn for herself. She had a fascination for exploring and she especially enjoyed the adventures of nature and science. Her hobbies included traveling, working on the interior design of her home, reading, painting, crafting, and discovering life with her family. She was an amazing mother and friend who often put other’s needs before her own.

Those left to cherish Chris’s memory are spouse Robert Herl of Quinter, KS; daughters Bethany Herl of Seattle, WA, and Abby Herl of Lubbock, TX; mother Jan Arnhold of Quinter, KS; sister Kathy Eberle (spouse Terry Eberle) of Cheyenne, WY; brothers Steve Arnhold of Longmount, CO and Mike Arnhold of Quinter, KS; father-in-law Moris Herl of Hays, KS; many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19th, 2022, at Christ the King Parish Hall in WaKeeney, Kansas with Father Charlie Steier as celebrant. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, September 18th , from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Parish Hall. A vigil service will start at 7:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation.

Christine 'Chris' Herl

Leo Francis Beckman, 89, passed away September 15, 
2022, at his home. He was born April 15, 1933, in Norton, Kansas, to Joe 
and LaNeva (Weigant) Beckman.

Leo was married to Mary Lee (Mueting) on November 24, 1960. He was a 
US Army veteran and had worked as a Registered Radiologic Technologist 
for 34 years in Kansas and Nebraska hospitals and Mowery Clinic in 
Salina. Leo was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Leo
 was also an honorary Fourth Degree Knight.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Lee; three 
children, Denise (Kevin) Swiercinsky of Topeka, KS, Evan (Jeanne) 
Beckman of Las Cruces, NM, Lisa (John) Donart of Shawnee, KS; a sister, 
Rita Collette of Concordia, KS; five grandchildren; three 
great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and LaNeva Beckman; and brother, Robert Beckman.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 6 
p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Mass of Christian 
Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a Rosary at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 
September 20th all at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Salina.&nbsp;

Theresa M. Kreutzer, 90, died September 15, 2022, at her home in Larned.

She was born May 18, 1932, at Chase, Kansas, the daughter of Anton and Matilda Zorn Wondra.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society of
 Larned, member of the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary, and 
past member of Larned Garden Club. She was an Avon rep for many years.

On September 5, 1956, she married Victor Kreutzer in Libenthal, Kansas; he survives.

Survivors include her husband; son, Ron (Monica) Kreutzer; step 
granddaughter, Amanda; grandson, Ryan; brother, Steve Wondra; sister, 
Addie Phillips; sister-in-law, Rosemary Wondra; and brother-in-law 
Melvin Dreher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bruce; two brothers, 
Bernard and Gloria, Tony and Jane; a sister, Mildred; and 
brother-in-law, Rex Phillips.

Beverly Ann Goering passed away on November 25, 2021, at the age of 
76. Bev was born October 23, 1945, in Goodland, Kansas, to John William 
and Hazel Violet Tracy. Bev was married on August 23, 1964. She had two 
children, Christopher Scott and Robyn Elizabeth with her former husband 
Richard (Scott) Goering.

Bev earned her Bachelor’s degree in Management Science and her 
Master’s degree in Business Administration from Regis University. Bev 
was a lifetime learner and was always taking classes in various topics 
and earned countless certificates along the way.

Bev worked in the Utilities Department for the City of Fort Collins 
for 29 years. After retirement, she began her next adventure in 
designing and creating beautiful jewelry. This was one of her greatest 
joys. She was quite accomplished with beads, stones, gems, and metal. 
She could often be found at one of her workbenches sketching a new 
design, performing intricate work with a magnifying glass, or pounding 
out copper on an old railroad tie in her garage.

Bev was a longtime member of the Colorado Archaeological Society and 
the Fort Collins Rockhound Club. Bev had a love of travel and new 
experiences. She was a member of the Friendship Force and had traveled 
to 38 different countries. Bev had a passion for genealogy. She was a 
member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to share 
stories about her family's heritage.

Bev was proceeded in death by her parents John and Hazel Tracy. Bev 
is survived by her partner Dean Grogan of Fort Collins, son Chris 
Goering of Windsor, daughter Robyn (Scottie) Moore of Fort Collins, 
granddaughters Mary Goering, Emily Goering, Evelyn Moore, and Madelyn 
Moore, sister Jolene (Rich) Miller of Goodland, KS, and many nieces and 
nephews.

As many of you know, Bev loved to share stories.&nbsp; These stories were

Beverly Ann Goering

Kenton Leon Donovan, 63, died September 16, 2022, at the University 
of Kansas Hospital, Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born August 28, 1959, in
 Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Marvin Lee and Roberta Emily (Deichen) 
Donovan. Kenton graduated from Hoisington High School in 1979.

He served in the Kansas Army National Guard serving from 1977 to 1997
 during the Persian Gulf War, in Belgium, Switzerland, Holland and 
Germany.

Kenton was a longtime Hoisington resident, working for Fuller Brush, 
and as a custodian for USD 431 and Walmart.&nbsp; He also had a part time 
business doing landscaping.&nbsp; Kenton was a car enthusiast, he helped 
start the Mid-America Mopar Club in Great Bend with his beloved Super 
Bee.&nbsp; He loved roller skating, gardening and collecting white tigers, 
matchbox cars, and angels.

On April 15, 1989, he married Kimberly M. Sander, they later divorced.

He is survived by his two daughters; Delora Claire (Ben) Erwin of 
Woodward, Oklahoma and Larissa Terra (Darin) Eggers of Russell; two 
sisters, Sherri K. Donovan and Vonda M. (David) Wigal, all of Wichita; 
four grandchildren, Blake Donovan Wigal, Bentlee Michael Smith Donovan, 
Anastazia Rayne Erwin, and Terra Jayden Eggers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Roberta Donovan, 
his grandparents, Jerome &amp; Lenora Donovan, a brother, Terry L. 
Donovan, and his Aunt Delora M. Donovan.&nbsp;

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, with family to greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kenton Leon Donovan

Keo O’Rourke, née Keo Helmke, was born August 17, 1932, to George 
Helmke and Rosa Bergner in a farm house 3 miles northeast of Iuka, KS. 
She was the youngest of five siblings, Dorothy Bales, Florence Curley, 
Flossie Ukena, and Ruth Lord, all deceased, and Benjamin Helmke of Ann 
Arbor, MI. She was raised during the depression on the family farm where
 she enjoyed singing hymns with her family and spending time outdoors. 
After graduating from high school in Pratt, she attended Bethany College
 in Lindsborg. It was at Bethany that she met Robert O’Rourke, and they 
married in 1953. They lived initially in Russell before moving to Iuka, 
Marion, Partridge, Galva, and eventually, Smith Center. In 1963 they 
added their son Michael to the family, followed soon thereafter by their
 son Kerry in 1965.

Keo earned her teaching certificate from Sterling College and began a
 career as an elementary school teacher, teaching several different 
grade levels during her career. After teaching in Canton, she spent most
 of her career in Smith Center. She was a creative and talented teacher 
who cared about her students and influenced many students over more than
 three decades of teaching.

In a life dedicated to service, Keo provided support for people 
through church and other organizations. She was a member of Bethany 
Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, becoming a Stephen Minister and visiting 
fellow parishioners and others in hospitals and skilled nursing 
facilities. After retiring, she would regularly read with elementary 
school children in Lindsborg, helping them develop their reading 
ability. For most of her adult life, she supported people of all ages 
who were struggling with family crises. After retiring from teaching, 
she expanded these efforts and took on several statewide leadership 
roles to further support those in need.

Family was fundamental for Keo. Along with Bob, she would travel to 
visit their sons and grandchildren, devoting most of their vacation time
 to building snowmen, making hamburger pie, and reading storybooks. She 
was excited about traveling around the United States, first with Bob and
 her sons and later with her niece and traveling companion, Pamela 
Bales. One of her last trips took her on a cruise to Alaska, which had 
long been a dream of hers. Music was also an important part of her life.
 After retiring from teaching in Smith Center and moving to Lindsborg, 
she sang alto in the Messiah choir for many years. Keo was a foodie, and
 cooking and baking were two central ways she communicated love to those
 around her. She was also essentially curious, always interested in 
learning about others and trying new things. Her curiosity led her to 
take courses at Bethany College after her retirement, including courses 
in philosophy, literature, and history.

Those who knew Keo admired her for her selflessness and concern for 
others. She was also known for her wry sense of humor, clever wit, and 
insight – she would on occasion talk trash during card games with her 
grandchildren, and she always gave as good as she got. Another trait 
that defined Keo was her fierce independence. It was this that helped 
her survive and recover from a head-on collision at highway speed in 
2002. This car accident almost killed her, but she bounced back from it 
and continued to help others and make the world a better place.

Keo lived the last four years of her life at Riverview Estates in 
Marquette. She died in her sleep on Sunday, September 11, 2022. She is 
preceded in death by her husband, Robert O’Rourke. She is survived by 
her sons, Michael O’Rourke (Liela Rotschy) and Kerry O’Rourke, her 
grandchildren Sarah O’Rourke (Kerry) and Joshua, Lukas, and Natalie 
O’Rourke (Michael O’Rourke and Rebecca O’Rourke), and her great 
grandchildren, Lukas Jr. (Lukas O’Rourke and Yvette Carrillo) and Elijah
 (Joshua O’Rourke and Molly Schumer).

Her life will be celebrated in a service to be held at Bethany 
Lutheran Church in Lindsborg on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 10:30 
am, followed by interment with Robert at Elmwood Cemetery.

 career as an elementary school teacher, teaching several different 
grade levels during her career. After teaching in Canton, she spent most
 of her career in Smith Center. She was a creative and talented teacher 
who cared about her students and influenced many students over more than
 three decades of teaching.In a life dedicated to service, Keo provided support for people 
through church and other organizations. She was a member of Bethany 
Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, becoming a Stephen Minister and visiting 
fellow parishioners and others in hospitals and skilled nursing 
facilities. After retiring, she would regularly read with elementary 
school children in Lindsborg, helping them develop their reading 
ability. For most of her adult life, she supported people of all ages 
who were struggling with family crises. After retiring from teaching, 
she expanded these efforts and took on several statewide leadership 
roles to further support those in need.Family was fundamental for Keo. Along with Bob, she would travel to 
visit their sons and grandchildren, devoting most of their vacation time
 to building snowmen, making hamburger pie, and reading storybooks. She 
was excited about traveling around the United States, first with Bob and
 her sons and later with her niece and traveling companion, Pamela 
Bales. One of her last trips took her on a cruise to Alaska, which had 
long been a dream of hers. Music was also an important part of her life.
 After retiring from teaching in Smith Center and moving to Lindsborg, 
she sang alto in the Messiah choir for many years. Keo was a foodie, and
 cooking and baking were two central ways she communicated love to those
 around her. She was also essentially curious, always interested in 
learning about others and trying new things. Her curiosity led her to 
take courses at Bethany College after her retirement, including courses 
in philosophy, literature, and history.Those who knew Keo admired her for her selflessness and concern for 
others. She was also known for her wry sense of humor, clever wit, and 
insight – she would on occasion talk trash during card games with her 
grandchildren, and she always gave as good as she got. Another trait 
that defined Keo was her fierce independence. It was this that helped 
her survive and recover from a head-on collision at highway speed in 
2002. This car accident almost killed her, but she bounced back from it 
and continued to help others and make the world a better place.Keo lived the last four years of her life at Riverview Estates in 
Marquette. She died in her sleep on Sunday, September 11, 2022. She is 
preceded in death by her husband, Robert O’Rourke. She is survived by 
her sons, Michael O’Rourke (Liela Rotschy) and Kerry O’Rourke, her 
grandchildren Sarah O’Rourke (Kerry) and Joshua, Lukas, and Natalie 
O’Rourke (Michael O’Rourke and Rebecca O’Rourke), and her great 
grandchildren, Lukas Jr. (Lukas O’Rourke and Yvette Carrillo) and Elijah
 (Joshua O’Rourke and Molly Schumer).Her life will be celebrated in a service to be held at Bethany 
Lutheran Church in Lindsborg on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 10:30 
am, followed by interment with Robert at Elmwood Cemetery.

Keo Rosine (Helmke) O’Rourke

Vada Ladean Unruh was born to Sam I. and Agnes (Smith) Unruh on 
February 19, 1932, in a small country home near Copeland. She was the 
fifth child of her parent's 11 children. She went to her reward on 
September 16, 2022, at Bethel Home in Montezuma, reaching the age of 90 
years.

Vada grew up in Haskell County and received her education at Colusa 
School. Many were the days that her and her siblings walked home from 
school with her cousins joining part way. At the age of 12, Vada felt 
the call of God and was baptized December 12, 1944, by Minister F.C. 
Fricke. Her faith brought her through life's challenges and it was her 
sincere desire to remain faithful until the end.

Vada helped her parents on the farm. She helped her mother with 
washing, making soap, and other house chores. During the war and with 
her older brothers in 1-W service, she become her dad's hired hand. She 
learned to operate the farm equipment, not always successfully at first.
 Despite this, Vada loved to farm.

Singing played a big part in her life. She would sing while driving 
the tractor and most every night she would sing with her sisters into 
the wee hours of the morning. She also loved to sing with her youth 
friends.

Later in life, Vada began working outside the home. She helped her 
sister and brother-in-law in their country store for nine years. From 
there, she took a job as a caregiver for an elderly lady in Garden City.
 Her caring heart reached out to others in need. She would much rather 
have been a giver than a receiver. As time went on, it found her at St. 
Catherine Hospital working in medical records for 22 years.

Life went on but seemed a bit empty. Her dad invited a widower with 
four children, Melvin Unruh, for Sunday dinner. She knew that this was 
what the Lord had in mind for her. She and Melvin were married in 1985 
and shared 13 wonderful years together. It gave her such a security and 
sense of belonging. This fulfillment made her very happy. Many fond 
memories were shared together in travels to California and to Canada. 
Vada loved family life. Her loving husband passed away rather suddenly 
and she felt such a loss but was thankful God gave them a few short 
years together.

She later entered Bethel Home where she received excellent care for several years.

Those left to cherish the memories are her siblings, Maxine and Eldon
 Schmidt, Sylvia and Delton Wedel, Eugene and Janice Unruh, Jeanette and
 Devern Nightengale, and Sam and Jan Unruh all of Montezuma; Melvin's 
family, Les and Linda Unruh of Copeland, Gloria and Milton Arnold of 
Pierceville, Marilyn and Daymon Yost of Sublette, and Maynard Unruh of 
Oakley. Her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews
 all also meant so much to her. She is preceded in death by her loving 
husband, Melvin; her parents; two brothers, Cecil and Louis Unruh; three
 sisters, Luella Koehn, Juanita Nightengale, and Shirley Unruh; 
brothers-in-law, Obed Koehn and Ervin Nightengale; sisters-in-law, Ruby 
Unruh, Elizabeth Unruh, and Ruby R.Unruh; and a step granddaughter, 
Rosalyn Arnold.

Funeral service will be held at Salem Mennonite Church on Tuesday, 
September 20, 2022, at 10:30 AM with Ministers Ryan Nightengale, Steve 
Unruh, and Stan Smith presiding. Burial will follow at Salem Mennonite 
Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma on 
Monday, September 19, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 P.M.

John Carl Barnum

Carrie Lynn Heiderscheidt, 64, passed away on September 11, 2022, in 
Hutchinson. Carrie was born in Salina, Kansas, on July 29, 1958, to 
Betty Lou and Wesley Nichols.

Carrie grew up traveling the nation and abroad with her Air Force 
Sergeant dad, Glenn Schuster, mom, Betty Schuster, and two sisters, 
Beverly Schuster and Diana Ferguson. Carrie’s early adult years were 
spent being connected to the land, raising Great Danes and studying 
holistic health. She always held an amazing memory, and loved to tell 
stories. She will be remembered for her fiery red hair and spirit.

Carrie enjoyed riding motorcycles with her lifelong companion, Jerry 
Heiderscheidt of Hutchinson. Carrie had two children, Crystal Pennington
 Mittel and Russell “Rusty” Pennington; and three grandchildren, Kadin, 
Trey and Bailey Pennington. Carrie also has a brother, Stan Nichols. 
Carrie valued spending time with family and is now reunited in the next 
cycle with her father, Wesley; her dad, Glenn; and her sister, Beverly.

Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at the Great Bend Cemetery.

She was born June 11, 1937, in Capulin, Colorado, to John and Mary Malouff. Margaret was a farmer and owned the Red Vest Inn restaurant in Plainville. She enjoyed decorating especially at Christmas time, cooking, fishing, and time with her family. Survivors include: Her son, Robert Reilly and wife Jennifer of Denver. Their children, Samuel and Frankie Reilly. Her son, Daniel Reilly of Denver. His children, Jacob, Paige and Joshua Reilly. Her daughter, Patricia Kitzman of Ellis. Her children, Jamie Linden, Erin Hobbs and Joseph Kitzman. Her daughter, Pamela Gnad and husband John of Ellis. Her children, Zachary Gehring, Matthew Gehring, Nicholas Gering, Step daughter, Madelynn Rudzik and step son, Maverick Gnad. As well as 14 great grandchildren. Kent Gale Kriley passed away on September 14, 2022, at the Hays 
Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 75. He was born on June 16,
 1947, in Sterling, Kansas to Gerald and Feliceine (Parker) Kriley.

Kent was a lifelong Kansas resident and lived in several Kansas towns before his family settled in Plainville.

Kent
 attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Plainville High School. After 
high school graduation with the class of 1966, he went to work as a 
roustabout in the oil field. He then drove for J.J. Auto Sales and sold 
snake root. Kent was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed KU Basketball, KSU 
Football and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was known for his humor and 
didn’t pass up an opportunity to make those around him laugh at his 
jokes.

He is survived by his brother Darrell Kriley of 
Plainville, KS; sisters, Margaret Kriley of Lenexa, KS, Gerri Potter of 
St. Joseph, MN, nephew Sean (Sarah) Potter of Washington, D.C., niece 
Krista Potter of St. Joseph, MN, great-nephew Ethan Potter of Washington
 D.C., cousins and friends.

Kent is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Feliceine; and a brother Michael Kriley.

Maxine M. Josefiak, 88, of Rush Center, Kansas, passed away on 
September 14, 2022. Maxine was born in Rush Center, December 16, 1933, 
to William and Alma (Meier) Renz. She graduated in 1951 from La Crosse 
High School, La Crosse, Kansas.

Maxine married Merle Josefiak on October 25, 1951, at the Hope 
Lutheran Church in Rush Center by Rev. Ray Saathoff. Maxine worked as a 
telephone operator in La Crosse. While her husband served in the Navy, 
she worked as a telephone billing clerk In Oakland, California. She also
 worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmers &amp; Merchants State Bank in La 
Crosse.

She is survived by two children, a son, David Josefiak (Neil Sauder) 
of Wichita, Kansas, and a daughter, Lynne Fahrney of Ponca City, 
Oklahoma, three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren, brother Ray,
 and many nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, both her parents, brother Harley, and sisters Wilma and Marjorie.

Maxine has been cremated and will be buried in Locust Hill Cemetery, 
Rush Center. No services are scheduled at this time. Donations can be 
made to Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center.

Joyce Ann Staab, 76, passed away peacefully on September 8,
2022, at The Waldron Place, Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;
She was born April 10, 1946, in Hays, to Lawrence and Felicita Staab.


In 1964, Joyce graduated from Marian High School in
Hays.&nbsp; She attended Fort Hays State
University and graduated in 1968 with her Bachelor’s Degree.&nbsp; She went on to Medical Technology Training at
St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, from 1968-1969.&nbsp; In 1982, she graduated from Fort Hays State
University where received her Master’s Degree.&nbsp;
Joyce worked for Hays Pathology Laboratory from 1969 to 1978 where she
was a Microbiology Supervisor.&nbsp; She later
worked for Hutchinson Hospital Corporation for 21 years and retired in 2006 as
a Microbiology Supervisor-MT (ASCP)M.&nbsp;
She was a member of The Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.&nbsp; 

Joyce is survived by a niece, E. Page Cunningham;
grandnephew, Darren D. (Yumiko) Hudson; and twin great-grandnieces, Abby and
Emma Sejima-Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Patricia
M. Bissing and a nephew, David W. Bissing.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2022,
followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of the Holy
Cross, 2631 Independence Rd., Hutchinson with Father Aaron Spexarth

Laurene Marie (Olson) Dempewolf, 75, of North Platte, NE passed away 
peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Linden Court Nursing Home.

Laurene was born on November 20, 1946, in McCook, NE the daughter of George and Laura (Bruggeman) Olson.

In her early years, Laurene grew up in the rural NW Kansas area of 
Selden and Dresden.&nbsp; Following the passing of her father in 1958, her 
family moved to Oberlin, KS.&nbsp; She attended Leoville Grade School; Jr. 
High in Oberlin, KS; High School at the Apostolic School of the Sisters 
of St. Joseph in Concordia, KS and completed her CNA training at Good 
Samaritan in Oberlin later in life.&nbsp; 

On April 22, 1967, she married 
Donald L. Dempewolf and to that union four children were born.&nbsp; Laurene 
babysat, took in ironing, cleaned homes and worked at the Dairy Inn 
during the years while her own children were young. She continued 
cleaning homes weekly for many elderly and working women and babysat 
with a good friend off and on through the years. She worked at Sacred 
Heart Catholic Church as secretary for nine years. She worked as a CNA 
at Cedar Living Center; worked in the thrift store in Oberlin; and at 
the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for twelve years. She, along with her 
husband and daughter, also cleaned the Oberlin Clinic nightly for five 
years.&nbsp; 

She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin
 where she served as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Parish Council, and 
President of the Altar Society three times.&nbsp; She took Communion to the 
homebound and sick, and her family cleaned the church for several 
years.&nbsp; She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Widows and
 Friends in Oberlin.&nbsp; On November 5, 2016, she moved to North Platte, NE 
and became very active in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.&nbsp; She was a 
member of the Without a Spouse group, Catholic Daughters, the Rosary 
Group, and the Golden Girls.

Laurene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; son, 
Michael; 16 brothers- and sisters-in-law and many other loved ones.

Those left to cherish Laurene’s memory are her son, Larry Dempewolf 
of Central City. NE; daughters, Donna (Kevin) Juenemann of Kansas City, 
KS and Jennifer (Tony) Krajewski of North Platte, NE; brothers, Jim 
(Dari) Olson and Bernard Olson both of McCook; sister, Georgene (Lyle) 
Carstenson of Newton, KS; sisters-in-law, Marian Dempewolf, Jean 
Dempewolf, and Dianne Kleidosty; brother-in-law, Myron Kleidosty; six 
grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, 
and friends.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17th,
 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Kadaprayill 
as celebrant.&nbsp; Graveside service and burial will follow at 7:00 p.m. at 
Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Colby, KS.&nbsp; Visitation will be on 
Friday, September 16th, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the 
family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial 
Chapel followed by The Rosary and Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.

Goodland, Kansas, resident&nbsp;Craig Wayne Holmes&nbsp;was born&nbsp;November 28, 1965, in&nbsp;Garden City, Kansas,&nbsp;to&nbsp;Robert and Frankie (Harp) Holmes.&nbsp;He passed away on September 10, 2022, at the Aurora Medical Center&nbsp;in Aurora, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was 56 years old.

He&nbsp;attended school in Sheridan Lake and graduated from Plainview High School in 1984.

Craig worked for approximately 30 years with Caldwell Furniture and Garcia’s Furniture as a delivery and repairman. &nbsp;In his free time, he enjoyed going fishing, playing video games and watching football.

He was&nbsp;preceded&nbsp;in death by&nbsp;his parents.

He is survived by&nbsp;his siblings Debra (Joe) Bennett of Goodland, Kansas, Larry Homes of Goodland, Kansas, and Roger (Cindy) Holmes of Salina, Kansas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Abby was a Kansas City, Mo. resident. She was a graduate of Great 
Bend High School and of Washburn University, receiving a bachelor’s 
degree in marketing and international business, and was a member of 
Alpha Phi sorority. After graduation, she worked as a product operations
 specialist at Old Navy. Abby enjoyed listening to music, going to 
concerts and movies, traveling (even with Mom and Dad), and spending 
time with her family and friends, especially spoiling her nephews.

1st this year when he became the owner of Legacy Wild Outfitting and 
Guide Service.  He enjoyed hunting, really anything outdoors.  He even 
spent some time horseback, being what every little boy dreams of a 
cowboy.  He worked cattle, did some brandin’ and cuttin’.  With all this
 excitement in his life, nothing brought him more joy or pride than 
spending time with his boys, Kalon and Kase.

Sister Jolene Geier, 84, died September 14, 2022, at the Dominican 
Sisters of Peace motherhouse in Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born January 1, 
1938, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Anthony and Josephine 
Lavenstein Geier.&nbsp;

She entered the Dominican Sisters community in 1952 and pronounced 
vows in 1955.&nbsp; In 2020, she celebrated sixty-five years of religious 
profession. Sister Jolene began her ministry as an elementary school 
teacher, serving in Kansas and Colorado schools. A call to pastoral 
ministry took her to St. Joseph Memorial Hospital as well as Sacred 
Heart Parish, both in Larned, Kansas. In the 1970s, she began developing
 what would become the Associates of the Kansas Dominicans. She also 
served the congregation as justice promoter. Her final years in ministry
 were spent on the staff of Heartland Center for Spirituality, Great 
Bend, Kansas.

Sister Jolene was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp; She is survived 
by brothers Alan, Danny and Larry Geier, sisters Barbara Jean Schartz, 
Katherine Rhodes and Lola Wilson, several nieces and nephews, as well as
 the Dominican Sisters of Peace.&nbsp;

A Wake Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 17.&nbsp; 
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 on Saturday, September 17.&nbsp;

Robert Lee Nolan Jr., 51, Hays, died Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at HaysMed.

He was born August 3, 1971, in Great 
Bend, the son of Robert L. and Wanda (Burress) Nolan.&nbsp; He graduated from
 Hays High School in 1989 and from Barton County Community College.&nbsp; 
Robert dedicated his life to service and saving lives.&nbsp; He was a Captain
 with the Hays Fire Department then worked for Ellis County EMS and was a
 flight paramedic with EagleMed.&nbsp; In 2019, he received the AAMS Critical
 Care Ground Award.&nbsp; Robert was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra 
Catholic Church, an Ozzy Osbourne fan, and car enthusiast.&nbsp; Most of all,
 he loved his dogs and helping with wheat harvest.

Survivors include his partner: Patrick 
(Meyeres) Nolan of Hays, Mother and step-father: Wanda and Ron Dodson of
 Hays, step-mother: Mary Nolan of Wichita, four brothers: Scott Nolan 
and wife Denise of Moses Lake, WA, Stacey Nolan of Hays, Les Nolan and 
wife Elizabeth of Great Bend, and Dustin Nolan and wife Sarah of

 </figure>Robert Lee Nolan Jr., 51, Hays, died Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at HaysMed.He was born August 3, 1971, in Great 
Bend, the son of Robert L. and Wanda (Burress) Nolan.&nbsp; He graduated from
 Hays High School in 1989 and from Barton County Community College.&nbsp; 
Robert dedicated his life to service and saving lives.&nbsp; He was a Captain
 with the Hays Fire Department then worked for Ellis County EMS and was a
 flight paramedic with EagleMed.&nbsp; In 2019, he received the AAMS Critical
 Care Ground Award.&nbsp; Robert was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra 
Catholic Church, an Ozzy Osbourne fan, and car enthusiast.&nbsp; Most of all,
 he loved his dogs and helping with wheat harvest.Survivors include his partner: Patrick 
(Meyeres) Nolan of Hays, Mother and step-father: Wanda and Ron Dodson of
 Hays, step-mother: Mary Nolan of Wichita, four brothers: Scott Nolan 
and wife Denise of Moses Lake, WA, Stacey Nolan of Hays, Les Nolan and 
wife Elizabeth of Great Bend, and Dustin Nolan and wife Sarah of 
Goddard, and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father.Mass of Christian Burial will be at

Robert Lee Nolan Jr.

Mickey Yvonne Jones, 79, died September 13, 2022, at Legend of 
Hutchinson. She was born December 3, 1942, in Kingman, to Eugene E. and 
Elizabeth “Dixie” (Dixon) Fisher.

Mickey graduated from Fairfield South High School, Turon.&nbsp; She 
received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Fort Hays State 
University, where she was certified to teach both instrumental and vocal
 music. After graduation, Mickey found her true passion as an elementary
 school vocal music teacher.&nbsp; She instilled her infectious love of music
 to her students and two children.&nbsp; Mickey also taught in her home both 
private voice and piano lessons, and prepared hundreds of students for 
music contests. Prior to moving to Hutchinson, Mickey was active in the 
Bucklin United Methodist Church, where she served as choir director, and
 was a member of the Dodge City Sweet Adelines.&nbsp;&nbsp; In addition, Mickey 
was the director for the 21st Century Learning Academy in 
Mullinville, helping countless students receive their high school 
diploma.&nbsp; Mickey enjoyed collecting Hummels, and was member of Delta 
Kappa Gamma, Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson and DOERS 
Sunday school class.

On December 22, 1963, she married John Paul Jones, at College Hill United Methodist Church, Wichita.

Mickey is survived by:&nbsp; her husband of almost 59 years, John Paul of 
Hutchinson; children, Jason Jones (Tracy) of Hesston, Jacque Wilburn 
(Darren) of Overland Park; sister, Donna Fisher of Wichita; 
grandchildren, Alexander Eckhoff (Kayla), Nicholas Eckhoff, Jace Jones, 
Chrision Wilburn, Alayna Wilburn, Kyra Wilburn, Dalyn Wilburn, and 
Quinton Wilburn; great-grandson, Elliott Eckhoff; great-granddaughter, 
Adelaide Eckhoff; niece, Suzi Casement (Bert Boden); seven foreign 
exchange students; and her beloved dog, Joey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Julie Michele Jones.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, at 
Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the 
Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating.&nbsp; Graveside service will follow at 
1:30 p.m. at Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, KS.&nbsp; Friends may call from 
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with the

Mickey Yvonne Jones

Gladys M. Nettleingham, 92, died September 14, 2022, at Medicalodges,
 Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born February 27, 1930, on the farm near 
Susank, Kansas, the daughter of Emanuel and Alma E. (Miller) Ehrlich.

On May 17, 1948, she married LaVerne Eugene Nettleingham at the Emmaus Lutheran Church, Hoisington, Kansas.

Gladys was a tried and true farm wife, working along side LaVerne and
 raising their four children together on the farm near Galatia.&nbsp; She was
 a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School 
for over 40 years.&nbsp; Gladys was also active on the Election Board and as a
 project leader for 4-H. She was talented with needle and thread, 
enjoying embroidery work and being part of the Nifty Needleworkers Club.
 She loved bowling, time outside gardening, watching her birds, and 
cheering on her Royals team.

She is survived by; two sons, Kent Nettleingham and Kevin 
Nettleingham, both of Galatia; daughter, Colette Keeler and husband Ray 
of Great Bend; son-in-law, Steve Bilyew of Claflin; brother, Leonard 
Ehrlich of Great Bend; and sister, Irene Jacobs of Great Bend; eight 
grandchildren, three step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, six 
step great grandchildren, and two step great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne Nettleingham, 
daughter, Coleen Bilyew, daughter-in-law, Suzy Nettleingham, and a 
brother, Roland Ehrlich.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 
Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, with Rev. Gary Wolf presiding.&nbsp; 
Burial will follow in Hoisington Cemetery.

the Methodist N. Hospital, Memphis, TN.&nbsp; Calvin was born south of 
Bazine, Kansas, on May 17, 1942, the son of Theodore and Wilma Hoersch 
Wittman.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022, 10:00 
a.m. at the St. Paul's Congregational Church, Bazine followed by burial

Calvin James Wittman

Phyllis Ann Thon, 78, passed away on January 31, 2022, at the Prairie 
Senior Living Complex in Colby, Kansas.  She was born on July 15, 1943, 
in Lacrosse, Kansas to Carl and Rosa (Michel) Cheney. 

She graduated 
from Dighton High School and then went on to marry Carrol Bryant. To 
this marriage was born four children. Lance Bryant, LaRae Bryant, Layne 
Bryant, and LaTasha Bryant. Phyllis and Carrol divorced in 1990. 
Phyllis married Clifford A. Thon in May of 1991. They lived in Dighton,
 Kansas until moving to Park Lane Independent Living in Scott City, 
Kansas in 2013. They later moved to Prairie Senior Living Complex in 
Colby, Kansas in 2014. 
Despite all her health issues, Phyllis tried to make the most of each 
day. She never met a stranger and loved to talk to people and tell them
 about her very interesting life story. 
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, her son Lance, her sister Margie, and her husband, Clifford Thon.
