Darrell D. Huber of Flagstaff, AZ,  passed away on  November 21st, 2022, after a brief illness at Flagstaff Medical Center. 

Darrell was born on January 28, 1936, in Hays, Kansas, to parents Oscar and Wilma of Ellis, KS. Upon graduating from high school in 1954 from Hutchinson High School, Darrell went on to study Geology at Kansas State University and attained his Master’s degree. 

Darrell met and wed Ann Stagg in 1958 in Hutchinson, KS and enjoyed 64 years of marriage with her. 

From his youth until later life, Darrell filled his spare time tinkering with cars. First, participating in the earliest drag racing events, and later building hot rods and street rods, including his beloved 1936 Ford Tudor Sedan, which he owned for 45 years. After retiring in 1997 and moving to Flagstaff, he enjoyed studying the geology of the American southwest, and the history and culture of the local indigenous peoples. 

Darrell is survived by his loving wife Ann, children Alan (and his wife Kim), Steven, and Julie. His sisters, Marilyn and Arlene, grandchildren Cody and Ashlee, and great-granddaughter Avery.

Lola Mae Boyd, 82, of Paradise, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022, at her home with her family by her side.

Lola was born November 18, 1940, in Osborne County, Kansas.&nbsp; She was 
one of five children born to Russell and Grace (Finch) Boyd.&nbsp; She grew 
up in Natoma, Kansas, and graduated from Natoma High School.&nbsp;

Lola was a manager for Autozone Store in Omaha, Nebraska, and a 
manager for Radio Shack.&nbsp; Before that she was a draftsman for REMCO.&nbsp; 
She lived in Omaha from 1991 to 2008, then she moved to Paradise.&nbsp; Later
 in life, she helped with the music department for USD 407.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
playing the piano for local schools and churches.&nbsp; She was a member of 
the Melony Cousins that played on the Great Bend Television station.&nbsp; 
She loved her community and was always willing to do whatever she could 
to help.

Lola’s surviving family include her two daughters, Teresa Meyers 
(Rodney) of WaKeeney, Kansas and Stephanie Scheck (Kennith) of Russell, 
Kansas; two sons, Wade Winder of Paradise, Kansas and Stephen Winder 
(Pam) of Garden City, Kansas; six grandchildren and thirteen great 
grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Joan Boyd of Abilene, Kansas.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Catherine Boyd; brothers, Fred Boyd and Rex Boyd.

Celebration of Lola’s Life will be held at 11:30 AM, Monday, December
 5, 2022, at the Paradise United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at
 the Natoma City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held at the Church from 
10:00 AM to service time.&nbsp; 

A Memorial has been established as the Lola

John D. Gregory, 70, of Wichita died on November 25, 2022, from 
injuries sustained in an automobile accident. John was born John DeRoam 
Gregory to Sylvia Patricia Wilhoit and Truman Gregory on October 28, 
1952, in Osborne, Kansas. As an only child, he grew up helping his 
father on the farm in Woodston, Kansas. John attended primary school in 
Woodston, Kansas, and later, John graduated from Stockton High School in 
1970 after Woodston closed due to low enrollment. John attended Fort 
Hays State University from 1970-1973 graduating with a Bachelor’s degree
 in Mass Communications. He was an active member of the Delta Sigma Phi 
Fraternity.

He married his college sweetheart, Kathyrn 
R. Rohrbough of Scott City, Kansas on March 2, 1974. John worked for the
 Great Bend Tribune, Osborne County Farmer Newspaper, Brush Art, and 
Arrow Printing Company.

He is survived by his 
daughters; Robin Gregory of Oklahoma, and Crystal and husband Nathan 
Elliott and two grandchildren William and Halle of Wichita, Kansas.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy on June 9, 2022.

John
 was a member of the Andale Catholic Church. John is known in the Salina
 area community for his work at Arrow Printing Company as an Account 
Executive. He was an active 4-H leader in Saline County in Photography 
approximately from 1990-2010.

Family will receive 
friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 1st, at 
Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 500 S. Ohio St., Salina, 
Kansas.

John D. Gregory

John Dale Apel passed away on November 15, 2022, in Lindsborg, Kansas, at the age of 93. 

Born
 in Wichita, KS, he grew up on rural farms in Chautauqua and Elk 
Counties and graduated from Sedan High School after significant 
involvement in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. 

He earned his 
bachelor of science in agriculture from Kansas State Agricultural 
College (later Kansas State University), and later achieved a master of 
arts degree in communications and social psychology from American 
University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. in adult education from the 
University of Chicago. 

     Dale began his more than 45-year 
career with the 4-H Foundation and the Kansas State University 
Cooperative Extension Service, 4-H and Youth Development Department, 
during his Kansas State College summers when he served as an Emergency 
Assistant 4-H Agent. His interest continued when he was selected as one 
of four Kansan delegates to the National 4-H Camp in Washington, D.C. 

Shortly
 after graduating from K-State, Dale worked as editor of the South 
Dakota Bureau Farming and as a lobbyist for the South Dakota Farm 
Bureau. His 4-H extension service was briefly interrupted when Dale 
served two years in the Korean War effort between 1951-1953. He served 
as a cryptographer in Taegu, Korea, with the U.S. Military Advisory 
Group to the Republic of Korea Army. 

     In 1953, Dale returned 
to Kansas and continued his service to the 4-H Foundation and KSU’s 4-H 
Extension. He worked as an agent in Morris and Saline Counties before 
briefly serving as the editor for the Kansas 4-H Journal in Manhattan. 
He built his adult life in Manhattan, serving 4-H as a specialist and 
most of his career as the associate state leader. His 4-H 
responsibilities included staff (volunteer and professional) development
 and program development, and was focused on building 4-H member 
retention initiatives. His advanced studies at American University and 
the University of Chicago led him to believe strongly in the importance 
of “self-set” goals as the key for 4-H member retention, as well as the 
basis for anyone’s career and life self-fulfillment.  

     Dale 
married 4-H Extension colleague Mary Dean Holle in 1961. They settled in
 Manhattan and raised three children, John William, Dean Marsh, and 
Ellen Ann. Dale and Mary Dean divorced in 1990.

     Dale was the 
co-founder of Kansas Evergreens, Inc. What began as a “Christmas tree 
farm” evolved to offer wholesale pine trees and household plant sales to
 major retailers in Colorado, New Mexico, and Kansas. From 1961 to the 
mid-1980s, the entire family was involved in raising trees and plants. 
Apel Road near St. George marks the place where Christmas trees were 
once grown.

     Upon retirement, Dale relocated to Overland Park, Kansas. 

He
 pursued a great number of personal interests including voraciously 
reading books of all kinds, and matting and framing pictures and prints.
 Dale became engrossed in genealogy and worked to develop a written 
history of his mother’s family, the Encells. He also worked for several 
years in tax return preparation. 

Dale developed a specific 
interest in the theatre and met his second wife, Shirley Tucker, while 
ushering for a dinner theatre. They married in March 2002, at Village 
Presbyterian Church and settled into her home in Overland Park. They 
shared a passion for day-trading, small dogs, their church, and the 
Kansas City Chiefs, but Dale never quite adopted Shirley’s passion for 
fishing. 

     Shortly after Shirley’s death in 2021, Dale moved 
to Lindsborg, KS, to be closer to family. While in Lindsborg he enjoyed 
being near Saline County (one of his first areas of responsibility as a 
4-H County Agent), being surrounded by Swedish culture, and pursuing a 
discipline of daily visits to the gym.

     Dale is preceded in 
death by his parents John George Apel Jr. and Eleanor Dryden Encell 
Apel, first wife Mary Dean Holle Apel, wife Shirley Tucker Apel, brother
 (Paul) Encell Apel and sister-in-law Deloris Hoskins Apel. 

He is
 survived by his children John and Regina Apel (Soldier, KS), Dean and 
Ann-Christin Apel (Lindsborg, KS), Ellen Apel (Minneapolis, MN), and his
 six grandchildren Yeremiah Apel (Vännäs, Sweden), Yohannes and wife 
Cecilia Apel (Lund, Sweden), Maria Apel (Lund, Sweden), Lukas Apel 
(Hays, KS), Frederik Apel (Soldier, KS), and Phillip Apel (Soldier, KS).


     A memorial service and time of fellowship will be held in the 
chapel at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, KS, at 2 p.m., Sunday, December
 18. A short graveside ceremony will be held the preceding day at 11 
a.m., Saturday, December 17 at the Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, KS. 


     Instead of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be
 directed to the Kansas 4-H Foundation, Dale Apel Leader-in-Training 
Campership Fund, 1680 Charles Pl., Ste. 100, Manhattan, KS 66502. Gifts 
will support the Leader-in-Training program, a teen leadership 
development experience held at Rock Springs.

Luella Theresa Herrman, age 89, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at HaysMed. Luella was born July 20, 1933, in Hays to Fidelis and Thecla (Ruder) Dinges. She graduated from Schoenchen High School. On October 15, 1951, she married Maynard Herrman in Hays. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2015. Luella was a homemaker and had worked at Travenol and Fort Hays State University. She was a woman of strong faith, and her family was truly important to her. She loved to keep a beautiful home, garden and maintained impeccable flower beds. She had participated in Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. &nbsp;Luella is survived by a son, Steven Herrman and wife Deborah of Rockport, TX; a daughter, Trudy Leikam and Husband Robert of Hays; a brother, Robert Dinges and wife Darlene of Dalton, Georgia; two sisters, Doris Lang of Overland Park, Kansas and Judith Withers of Hays; a sister-in-law, Mildred Dinges of Hays; seven grandchildren, Joshua Herrman and wife Jessica, Jacob Herrman and wife Carol, Lucas Herrman, Quinton Herrman, Sarah Fischer and husband Shawn, Annie Bollig and husband Preston and Chrissy Driscoll and husband Tony; ten great grandchildren with one on the way, and one great-great grandchild. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Herrman; a brother, Laverne Dinges and a sister, Verlee Schmidt. &nbsp;Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th in Hays. Barry Keith Doane, age 79, was born July 31, 1943, in Beloit, Kansas to Ralph and Eileen Doane, and passed away peacefully from this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at his farm near Downs, Kansas. The oldest of four sons, Keith grew up northwest of Downs, Kansas and lived in the area his whole life.&nbsp; During his early years growing up on the family farm he discovered the joy of his lifelong passion for farming at an early age.&nbsp; The family farm was typical of the area during the post-war era raising wheat, feed crops, dairy and beef cows, hogs, and chickens.&nbsp; Playing ball with his brothers, tending the livestock, riding horses and swimming in the farm ponds were some of his formative experiences, together with the seeds of faith that were sown by the family through their regular participation in the Rose Valley United Methodist Church. He attended the Downs public schools from elementary through high school.&nbsp; During high school he was active in sports, especially enjoying football, and the FFA vocational agriculture programs, earning his State Farmer degree.&nbsp; Graduating high school in 1961 he enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard and attended basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.&nbsp; He was later trained in munitions at the U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Ground receiving the highest honors in his class.&nbsp; He served six months active duty and four years in total from 1961-1965 in the Kansas National Guard as the Vietnam War was intensifying. Keith started his farming pursuits while he was still in high school, renting cropland from his grandfather and purchasing a John Deere Model A tractor.&nbsp; He continued farming under the mentorship of his parents, grandparents, and other area farmers after high school before graduating from the Kansas State University short agricultural course in 1965.&nbsp; As his brothers returned to the area, and they all farmed together for many years sharing equipment and chores while they each eventually started and managed their own farms in the Osborne County area. During this time, Keith served as a youth leader at the Rose Valley church and was active in Kansas Farm Bureau. On June 2, 1972, Keith was married to Marsha Jean Dibble, the youngest daughter of Everette and Dorothy Dibble of Alton, Kansas.&nbsp; They would go on to celebrate 50 years of marriage while raising four sons and farming together through good times and bad.&nbsp; She shared fully in his enthusiasms, and they jointly provided a stable family environment focused on farm chores, church, education, community service, sports, and hunting – not necessarily in that order. Keith’s farming career spanned over 65 years and saw significant technological changes.&nbsp; As a young boy he drove a team of horses raking hay and cultivating crops.&nbsp; As times changed, he embraced new farming techniques such as no-till planting, precision management and GPS guided equipment to improve the farming operation.&nbsp; He was talented mechanically and a continuous learner who enjoyed the challenge of repairing equipment even more so than running it.&nbsp; He almost always had livestock in his care starting when he was gifted a heifer calf at the age of seven and through to the cattle herd that is still on the farm today.&nbsp; Soil conservation was always a priority for Keith and his often-stated goal was to pass along his farms in better condition than when he received them.&nbsp; He was awarded the Kansas Bankers Association Award for Soil Conservation in 2012 and 2019.&nbsp; Keith and Marsha were recognized as a Century Farm by Kansas Farm Bureau in 2020 and as a Kansas Master Farm Family by K-State Extension in 2021.&nbsp; Keith and Marsha achieved their goal of passing the farm operation to their family and their associates operating today as Doane Family Farms and Legacy Farm Partners.&nbsp; Keith was always active and interested in community affairs.&nbsp; He served on the USD 272 school board for fourteen years, including President of the board for five years.&nbsp; He also served in volunteer leadership for Kansas State University Extension, Kansas Farm Management Association, ASCS/FSA Committee, Osborne County 4-H and Fair Board and the Centennial Village Housing Board.&nbsp; Always interested in other cultures, Keith and Marsha hosted three AFS foreign exchange students in their home – Antonio Tejada (1989-90), Tomoko Murakami (1992), and Yuri Konukov (1995-96). Keith enjoyed time away from the farm with two primary hobbies.&nbsp; He raised and sold Muscovy ducks as a youngster, allowing him to raise enough money to buy his first shotgun.&nbsp; Always eager to go hunting, he forged lifelong friendships as they pursued their quarry.&nbsp; He delighted in organizing local pheasant and deer hunts with neighbors and reveled in the storytelling of hunts from the past.&nbsp; His other love was flying.&nbsp; He became a small aircraft pilot in 1989, flew a Cessna 150 and enjoyed attending airshows and talk to other pilots. Anybody who knew Keith well understood his faith walk was the most central and organizing aspect of his life.&nbsp; He was a lifelong member of Rose Valley and served in numerous service and leadership roles there over his lifetime.&nbsp; He also took a great deal of interest in spreading God’s written word, serving actively in Gideon’s International.&nbsp; One of his favorite activities was organizing and attending the Downs Men’s Prayer breakfast every other Saturday morning, an ecumenical gathering that he would often utilize to introduce men to the community of faith. Keith is survived by his loving wife Marsha who cared for him until his last day following a long battle with cancer.&nbsp; He is also survived by his four sons – Michael Doane (Julie) of Parkville, Missouri; Rodney Doane (Lindsey) of Alton, Kansas; Brett Doane (Chandra) of Downs, Kansas; and Craig Doane (Shawna) of Downs, Kansas; three brothers – Brent Doane (Linda) of Portis, Kansas; Gary Doane (Glennys) of Downs, Kansas; and Steve Doane (Heidi) of Downs, Kansas; and twelve grandchildren – Madison (Alex), Sarah and Weston, Morgan, Ean, Krina, Reed, Sophia, Cohen, Emmett, Amelia and Briggs; and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and special friends of the family. A visitation service will be held at on Wednesday, November 30 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rose Valley United Methodist Church 107 County 685 Avenue, Downs, Kansas.&nbsp; The funeral and celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 1 at 10 a.m., also at Rose Valley.&nbsp;

Ronald Lee Haremza

Victor Vogler Jr., age 79, died November 27th, 2022, at Swedish Medical 
Center in Englewood, Colorado. He was born to Victor and Rosa 
(Wassemiller) Vogler Sr. on November 21st, 1943, in Colby, Kansas. He 
grew up on the family farm a mile South of Monument. 
He married Maysel Ruppe on May 27th, 1963, and they began their married 
life on that same farm where Vic grew up. They lived there for 26 years 
before moving to a home on the South side of Monument where they were 
still living until his death. Vic and Maysel had three children, Bridget
 (Kim) Denigan, Stephanie Swart, and Kyle Vogler. The couple were 
involved in farming and during the early years of their marriage Vic 
worked at the Bertrand Elevator in Monument during the winters. He had 
also spent a year before their marriage working construction with Lewis 
Mershon where he learned many skills from that master craftsman. 
Vic enjoyed working with his hunting dogs, and just sitting on the porch
 in the summer watching the newborn calves play. He liked all kinds of 
hunting, but goose hunting was his favorite, with quail hunting a close 
second. The most important aspect of his hunting though was the 
fellowship with good friends. Trap shooting was another hobby where he 
won medals and enjoyed reloading his own shells. Vic was baptized in 
August of 2012. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vic Sr. and Rosa Vogler and his
 daughter Kim Denigan. He is survived by his wife Maysel; his daughter 
Stephanie (Terrall) Swart; son Kyle (Sandra) Vogler; his grandchildren, 
Chelsea (Ryder) Eakin, Paige (Alex) Nuss, Braedon and Brooke Vogler; 
three great grandchildren Callie and Carsyn Eakin and Easton Nuss; Kim's
 husband Dale Denigan and his sister Betty (Jim) Bartlett and their 
family. 
Private graveside services will be held in the Monument Cemetery. A 
memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022, 
at the United Christian Church, 117 Center Ave in Oakley, Kansas.

Church building fund or the House of Hope Orphanage in San Lucas,

Lela Deloris Fortkamp went home to her maker on November 26th, 2022, at 
Bird City, Kansas, in her second home, her beloved motor home, while 
celebrating the holiday and her birthday with family. Lela was born
 to Sallie (Ellis) and Merl Teeter on November 27th, 1934, in Benkelman,
 Nebraska. She grew up on the farm with her parents and sister, Vada, in
 rural Benkelman where she helped her mother and learned how to cook the
 excellent food that she was known for. She was baptized and raised in 
the Christian faith. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran 
church in Palisade and current member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church of 
Wauneta.

She married Donald Fortkamp May 6, 1951, and made her home south
 of Wauneta. When Don entered the US Army and was eventually sent to 
Germany, she followed him with their infant son, Dee, where they lived 
with a German family in Berlin and enjoyed seeing Europe as a young 
couple. After Don’s time in the service, they returned home to a farm 
north of Palisade where their daughter, Tina, was born and she spent her
 life. She was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, farm helper, truck
 driver, jewelry saleswoman, card player, cake decorator, she loved to 
dance, and was an active member of her community over her lifetime. In 
1976 they remodeled a home in Palisade and once retired, she and Don 
spent their winters in southern Texas where she and Don made many close 
friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merl and Sallie Teeter, sister Vada Manning, and great-grandson, Shepherd. 
 She is survived by her husband, Don, son Dee and wife Jennifer of 
Lincoln, daughter Tina and husband, Denny Vrbas of Benkelman, brother in
 law Harold Manning of Stratton, granddaughter, Tifany and husband Terry
 Glasco of Bird City, KS, granddaughter, Brenna Fortkamp of Lincoln,

Phillipsburg resident Johnny Smith passed away November 21, 2022, at
 the Logan Manor in Logan at the age of 85.&nbsp; He was born November 4, 
1937, in Bogue, KS.

Survivors include his daughters, Teresa Lewis of Grinnell, KS. &amp; 
Robin Smith of Smith Center; his brothers, Carl &amp; Stanley of Logan,

Phillipsburg resident Eleanor “Lorrie” Simmons passed away Nov. 22,
 2022, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the 
age of 86. She was born Nov. 16, 1936 in Lenora, KS.

Survivors include her brothers, Raymond of Great Bend and Bob of Goodland and several nieces &amp; nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10:00 a.m. in the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Becky Saddler officiating.&nbsp; 
Burial will follow in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Thursday &amp; 9:00 to 9:00 Friday at the Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County Retirement Center.

Eleanor 'Lorrie' Simmons

Edna Mae (Fry) Stithem, of Stockton, KS, passed away on November 24, 
2022, in her hometown at the age of 85. She was born on February 13, 
1937, to Ernest and Famy Elizabeth (Butler) Fry in Stockton. She married
 Dale Bretton in Glade, KS and they were blessed with four daughters: 
Doris, Darlene, Dorothy and Dixie. They later divorced and on June 7, 
1970, she married Jerry Stithem in Plainville, KS.

The 
family then grew by three with Mike, Shelly, and Missy.  Edna Mae grew 
up in Woodston and graduated from Woodston High School in 1955. She 
always kept busy with various jobs throughout her life along with 
raising her kids. She was a bartender at Bob's Place/Red Kitten, the 
Country Club, and the VFW which she later became the manager.  She 
worked at the Stockton schools, mowed lawns, and cleaned houses.  She 
worked security at the open class building at the Rooks County Free 
Fair.

She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary 
and a member of the Red Hat Society. Edna Mae loved her family - 
especially Christmas time with her family, and decorating for all the 
holidays. Edna Mae's house was always a favorite for kids to trick or 
treat at. She loved spending time with her friends, pranking them and 
having a good time. She was the life of the party but also a grandmother
 to many. Edna Mae was an avid bowler winning many trophies. She enjoyed
 her indoor pet pig named Rick, her chickens, geese, peacocks and 
guineas. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great 
grandchildren and was lovingly referred to as "Grouchy Grandma."&nbsp; She 
loved to bake, especially cakes for birthdays, graduations, baby 
showers, or any other occasion you could think of.

Edna
 Mae is survived by her daughters: Doris Willey of Park City, KS, 
Darlene (John) Walker of Stockton, Dorothy Bretton of Stockton, and 
Dixie (Bill) Dibble of Woodston, KS; Mike (Connie) Stithem of Stockton, 
Shelly (Dale) Wilkerson of Zurich, KS, and Missy (John) Patocka of 
Kansas City, MO; a sister, Ernestine (Jim) Kee of Stockton; 14 
grandchildren: Dale Willey, Dawnite (Tim) Colburn, Dusty (Wendy) Walker,
 Damian (Misty) Dibble, Derry (Erin) Dibble, Dylan (Kalie) Dibble, Darla
 (Bryan) Plante, Jesse (Michelle) Stithem, Julie (Nathan) Glendening, 
Jordan (Megan) Stithem, Travis (Ciara) Double, Trenton Double, Amber 
(Patrick) DeBey, and Adryan DeBey; and 31 great-grandchildren.

She
 is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Famy Fry; husband, 
Jerry Stithem; brother, Harvey Fry; and grandson, Devin DeBey; 
son-in-law, Bart Willey; brother-in-law Delbert Swaney and sister-in-law
 Linda Fry.

Edna Mae will be greatly missed by all who 
knew her, but the celebration of her life and memories will never be 
forgotten.  For to each one of us who had the privilege of knowing and 
loving her, she leaves a legacy of true kindness, deep caring, and 
devoted love.

A Celebration of Life Reception will be 
held at the VFW in Stockton, 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM (come-and-go) on 
Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Edna Mae (Fry) Stithem

Derek Brent Sheffer, age 71, of McCook, NE, formerly of Hutchinson, 
KS, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Community Hospital 
in McCook.

Derek was born on June 21, 1951, in Phillipsburg, KS to Winton Lott 
and Peggy Jeanne (Stice) Sheffer. He received his education in Stockton,
 Kansas where he graduated from high school.

Derek was united in marriage to Paula Suzanne Schmidt on September 1, 1984, in Enid, OK.

Derek worked for AutoZone for many years in Hutchinson, KS until his retirement in 2016.

Derek received his pilot’s license and loved to fly. He especially 
enjoyed flying a Cessna 172. Derek loved to cook, put puzzles together, 
but his greatest joy was his grandchildren. He was a member of the 
McCook Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cella Gregg; 
brother-in-law, Homer Schoeller; and parents-in-law, Jakie and Beverly 
Schmidt.

Those left to celebrate his memory are his wife, Paula Sheffer of 
McCook; children, Darin Sheffer of Ellsworth, KS, Joey Ciarla of Fort 
Collins, CO, Patty (Jeff) Tidyman of McCook, NE, Janae (Ryan) Gorman of 
Edmond, OK; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Karla 
Schoeller of Halstead, KS; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 
Elliott Mortuary with Pastor David Stevens officiating.&nbsp; The family will

Derek Brent Sheffer

Harold Franklin “Bud” Beck Jr., 74, of Russell, Kansas, passed away 
Friday, November 25, 2022 at the Lawrence Medical Health Center in 
Lawrence, Kansas.

Bud was born August 14, 1948, in Plainville, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the son 
of Harold F. Sr., and Reva (Rigby) Beck.&nbsp; He grew up in Natoma, Kansas,&nbsp; and graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of 67.

Bud served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.&nbsp;

Bud was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Quinley on July 25, 1975, in 
Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three sons, Nicholas, 
Christopher and Philip.&nbsp; They made their home in Great Bend until 1992 
when they moved to Russell.&nbsp; Peggy preceded him in death on April 20, 
2012.

Bud was a Serviceman for the Kansas Gas Service for many years.&nbsp; 
Earlier in life he was a plumber with Pease Plumbing.&nbsp; He was a member 
of St. John Lutheran Church, Russell American Legion Post #99 and the 
Russell Elk’s Lodge.&nbsp; Sports was a big part of Bud’s life. &nbsp;When his 
kids were younger he would umpire baseball and softball games.&nbsp; He 
enjoyed watching sports especially Kansas State University, Kansas City 
Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bud’s surviving family include two sons, Nicholas Beck (Tracey) of 
Lawrence, Kansas and Philip Beck of Lawrence, Kansas; sisters, Beverly 
Hachmeister of Natoma, Kansas and Anita Griffin (Gail) of Alton, Kansas;
 four grandchildren, Sullivan Beck, Quyton Younker, Jessica Beck and 
Emilie Crawford; brother-in-law, Lawrence Becker of Plainville, Kansas.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; son, Christopher Beck; and sister, Deanna Becker.

Celebration of Bud’s Life will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, 
November 30, 2022, at the St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow 
at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to

Harold Franklin 'Bud' Beck Jr.

Luceda Ann “Lucy” Hager, 84, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away November 23, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born September 23, 1938, on the family farm in Rush County, Kansas, the daughter of Wendelin and Rose Mary Leiker Urban. Lucy has resided in Lyons for the past eleven years, formerly of Geneseo, Kansas. She was a homemaker. 

Lucy was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, and the St. Paul Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, was an excellent cook and baker, and most of all loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

On November 12, 1957, Lucy was united in marriage with John A. Hager in LaCrosse, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2009. 

She is also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Norbert Urban and Justin Urban; two sisters, Bernita Clair and Alice Heeps; six brothers-in-law, Jack Clair, Leo Heeps, Ken Geibler, Millard Schloemer, Loren Frank, and Jim Flashon; and three sisters-in-law, Wilma Frank, Betty Lou Young, and Gloria Hager. 

Lucy is survived by her three children, Randy Hager of Geneseo, KS, Rick Hager and wife Jo Ann of Lyons, KS, and Rhonda Hunt and husband Brad of Lyons, KS; three sisters, Edna Geibler of Hays, KS, Charlene Kreutzer and husband Bob of Stafford, KS, and Doris Armstrong of Springfield, MO; four sisters-in-law, Mary Urban of LaCrosse, KS, Elsie Urban of LaCrosse, KS, JoAnn Hager of Salina, KS, and Marlene Flashon of Moundridge, KS; two grandchildren, Tara Reyes of Hutchinson, KS, and Taylor Lowe and husband Scott of New Bern, NC; two great-grandchildren, Jameson Reyes and Carver Lowe; and numerous niece and nephews. 

Funeral mass will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Monday, November 28, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with family present. A Parish Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M.

Luceda Ann 'Lucy' Hager

Troy&nbsp;Joseph&nbsp;Dreiling,&nbsp;age&nbsp;55 of Victoria, Kansas, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

He was born on&nbsp;July 6, 1967, at&nbsp;Hays, Kansas, to Julius J. and Darlene Marie (Brungardt) Dreiling.

Troy was a paint and body technician working at Lewis Paint and Collision and before that he worked at Paul McDonald Chevrolet. &nbsp;He grew up in Victoria and was a 1986 graduate of Victoria High School. &nbsp;During high school he worked at the Victoria Coke Plant. &nbsp;He was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis.

Survivors include his children, Chris Dreiling and wife, Katie, Victoria, KS; Tyler Dreiling, Victoria, KS; his granddaughter, Hollie Dreiling; his parents, Julius J. and Darlene Dreiling, Victoria, KS; his brother, Terence Dreiling, Hays, KS; his sisters, Debi Cline and husband, Kirk “Cookie”,&nbsp;Hays, KS; Deanna Dreiling, Hays, KS; Dori&nbsp;Smalley and husband, Keaton, Frontenac, KS; his former wife, Marcia Dreiling, Victoria, KS; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas James Dreiling; his nephew, Garett Vincent Dreiling Stimpson; his grandparents, Dionysius P. and Mary (Paul) Dreiling; Ben and Ida (Meis) Brungardt.

Troy Joseph Dreiling

Margaret Schmidt died at her home in Newcastle, Oklahoma, on the evening of Monday, November 21, 2022,
at the age of 94, with her family around her. The Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be held on
Monday, November 28, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Porter Avenue, Norman, where she
and her husband, Willard, and family had been parishioners since 1951. Visitation on Sunday, November 27,
5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and rosary and vigil prayer service from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. will be held at
Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street, Norman. Following her funeral, she will be laid to rest
beside her husband in Calvary Cemetery, Elk City, with burial rites scheduled for 3:30 p.m.


Margaret was born on a farm outside Elk City, Oklahoma, on February 1, 1928, to Aloysius “Allie” and Flora
(Walker) Schachle. Her paternal grandparents, Stephan and Katherine (Klein) Schachle were immigrants from
Liechtenstein and Germany who settled first in Kentucky and Ohio in 1882 before moving to Oklahoma in
1909. Her maternal grandparents, William and Dorothy (Rogers) Walker trace their ancestral roots back to the 1700s in Virginia. She was one of five children and attended Merritt Public Schools just outside Elk
City, where she excelled both as a student and athlete, receiving conference and state recognition as a superb
basketball player. After graduating from high school, Margaret attended Ursuline College in Paola, Kansas,
where she earned an associate’s degree in Medical Records, training she used as Medical Librarian at Elk City
Community Hospital.


In the summer of 1948, she drove her parents and younger sister, Beth, across country to visit her brother,
George, who was playing minor league baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals system in Ontario, Canada. His
roommate was a handsome young pitcher from Hays, Kansas. Willard and Margaret were married on January
14, 1950, in Elk City and were together for 57 years before Willard passed away in 2007. As a young wife and
mother married to a professional baseball player, Margaret traveled throughout the country and to Cuba and
Puerto Rico, which she described as pretty exciting for “just a farm girl from western Oklahoma.”


In 1951, Margaret and Willard moved to Norman, Oklahoma, to raise their children in a college town. They
joined St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was active in Women’s Club, Altar Society, St. Monica’s Guild,
RCIA (adult religious instruction in the Catholic faith), and Golden Agers. For decades she baked her famous
pies for St. Joseph’s Thanksgiving community dinners. In 1991, Margaret and Willard moved to a small farm
in Newcastle, Oklahoma where they could have horses, big gardens, lots of dogs and host big family events
and barn parties for family, friends and neighbors. She loved to read and read history, fiction, art books,
spiritual works and biography right up to the last days of her life. She was always open to new technology. Her
children remember that some of the first e-mails they received were from her and their dad, who were among
the first users of the Internet at Newcastle Library in the early 1990s, and Margaret never stopped using her
computer to keep in close touch with family and friends. Her favorite thing in life was to spend time with her
children and grandchildren. Throughout her long life she was beautiful in appearance and in spirit, and her
strength never wavered.


Margaret Schmidt had friendships that lasted a lifetime. She fiercely loved our family, who will remember her
strength and steady guidance, her wit and gentle voice. and her devotion to our dad.


She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers, Bill, Jack and George. She is survived
by her daughter, Layne Evans and her husband, Deane, Norwalk, Connecticut; son Paul Schmidt and his wife,
Sheryl, and their daughter, Katy, Norman; daughter Lisa Schmidt, Norman; son Kent Schmidt, his wife Lisa
and their two children, Sarah Schmidt (Tom Goheen), Austin, Texas, and Zachary Schmidt, Norman; daughter
Meg Schmidt, Norman; daughter Madeline Schmidt, Oklahoma City; sister, Beth (Harry) Hufnagel, Okarche,
Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Nancy (George) Schachle, of Lexington, Virginia, and many beloved nieces,
nephews, and cousins.

Ruth Elaine Miller, 93, Stockton and formerly of Hays, died Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton.

She was born February 28, 1929, in 
Webster, the daughter of Charles J. and Eunice (Selby) McCormick.&nbsp;&nbsp;She 
was a graduate of Webster High School, and on December 11, 1947, was 
united in marriage to Charles A. “Buck” Miller in Osborne.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were 
married over 45 years before he preceded her in death on April 5, 
1993.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ruth and her husband were residents of Oakley from 1961 until 
1983 when they moved to Hays and owned and operated The Bridal Shop.&nbsp;&nbsp;In
 2011, Ruth moved to Stockton.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of First United 
Methodist Church in Hays, loved her volunteer work with Hospice and the 
ARC of Central Plains, and enjoyed sewing, clothing alterations, and 
traveling.

Survivors include her son Carl Miller 
and wife Janet of Gem, daughter Rachelle Miller of Salina, four 
grandchildren: Dustin Miller, Lindsey Herndon, Joel Shuler, and Brandon 
Conrad, eight great grandchildren: Maggie Shuler, Elijah, Noah, 
Meredith, and Emma Herndon, Macy, Serenity, and Miles Shuler, three 
great-great grandchildren: Asher Shuler, William and Kristina Martin, 
and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, and three sisters: Mabel Lowry, Neva Holcomb, and Beulah Waters.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on
 Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 
Pine Street in Hays, with Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will

Ruth Elaine Miller

Helen L. Ostmeyer, 101, of Oakley, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 
the Logan County Hospital, in Oakley, leaving a legacy of love and 
kindness behind her. She was born to John and Clara (Lockard) Rhea in 
rural Saline County, KS on January 31, 1921, the second of six children.
 The family moved to Northwest Kansas in the early 1930s. Helen told 
many stories of the dust storms of those years and how her family and 
others survived. She attended country schools, then Oakley High School, 
graduating in 1938. She then attended business school in Salina during 
the WWII years. She fondly told stories of attending USO dances, in 
particular one where she wore her favorite red dress and danced every 
dance! When she returned to Oakley she worked as a bank teller at 
Farmers State Bank. 
Helen married James Ostmeyer on May 11, 1947. The couple had two sons 
and three daughters. After her fifth child Helen would recall hearing a 
visiting family member say, “another red head”, as they all inherited 
their father’s hair color. Helen was a wonderful mother who enjoyed 
working and staying busy. She particularly enjoyed working for the City 
of Oakley as a billing clerk. She said she had the best coworkers, and 
it was so nice to interact with the people of Oakley. Helen truly just 
enjoyed people. 
After retirement, Helen and Jim enjoyed travelling, visiting family all 
across the United States, and wintering in Arizona. They took a cruise 
out of Florida to the Bahamas, saw Niagara Falls in New Yok and Phantom 
of the Opera in Toronto. After the death of her husband in 1995, Helen 
continued to travel with her family. Some of her favorite places were 
Branson and Las Vegas, where the family went to celebrate her 90th 
birthday. She proudly wore a sash that read “Birthday Girl” and was 
thrilled as complete strangers wished her a happy birthday and marveled 
that she didn’t look her age, which she never got too old to hear. 
Helen was addicted to coffee. She started every day with it and liked it
 black and hot. She had many hobbies. She taught herself to crochet, 
creating many beautiful doilies and doll clothes. She also learned to 
quilt and had a quilting rack built in her basement where she and her 
sister Mildred would create beautiful bedspreads and wall hangings. In 
her nineties she decided she wanted to play the piano better, so she 
started piano lessons. Helen was always open to learning new things. One
 of her favorite pastimes was playing cards. She enjoyed playing at the 
Country Club and always had a deck of cards in her suitcase, so whoever 
she visited had card playing on the agenda. Helen was a wonderful human 
being with an innate kindness to her. Her favorite saying to her family 
was “I love you a bushel and a peck” and that sentiment was returned to 
her a million-fold. 
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; son John; 
brother Merrill Rhea; sisters, Dorothy Davis, Virginia Read and Hazel 
Daniels and sisters-in-law, Toni Whitson, Rose Teeter and Betty Keller.

Frank Arthur Ohlrogge, 88, of Colby, died Friday, November 25, 2022. He 
was born in Thomas County, KS, near Mingo, on June 24, 1934, to Wohler 
and Mae (Rogers) Ohlrogge. The family moved to Levant in 1940, when 
Frank was six years old. He graduated from Levant High School in 1952 
and then furthered his education at the St. Paul Bible Institute in St. 
Paul, Minnesota, for a semester. Frank married JoAnn Marrs on August 28,
 1955. The couple had seven children. 
Frank worked for several plumbers and the City of Colby before opening 
his own plumbing business which he ran from 1961 to 1990. He was also a 
volunteer firefighter in Colby for 25 years. In 1973, Frank began 
farming for his father-in-law Stanley Marrs. Then, in 1985, he and JoAnn
 went into the cattle business along with raising pigs and sheep. The 
couple started making pets of all the animals and named each one. They 
enjoyed doing this very much and made a hobby of it.

Harvest time was 
always a big time for family, and everyone would help out. Frank and 
JoAnn enjoyed when the grandkids would come out to the farm. One special
 time was when they had some buffalo, a cow called “Big Girl”, a pig 
named “Petunia” and two donkeys some of the grandkids liked to ride. In 
2005, they started renting out the farmland and then began downsizing 
the animals, getting rid of the last in 2015. 
Frank will most be remembered for his love of making people laugh, 
telling jokes or asking people if they had a clean joke. He had a 
beautiful singing voice and especially enjoyed singing hymns. He had a 
knack for whistling with vibratos and even in his last days was heard 
whistling a favorite hymn. Being in church was important to him and he 
instilled a strong moral code into his family. He loved hunting and 
vacationing in Colorado and his family has many fond memories and 
stories of these trips. 
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, all nine of his siblings and son-in-law Leland Davisson. 
He is survived by his wife JoAnn; children Mark Ohlrogge, Marlis 
Davisson, David (Nancy) Ohlrogge, Steven Ohlrogge, Paul Ohlrogge, Joel 
(Denise) Ohlrogge and Deena (Bill) Bowles; grandchildren Dustin (Amber) 
Davisson, David (Jennifer) Davisson, Shera (Esteban) Ortiz, Shawna 
(Aaron) Stoney, Todd (Genevieve) Ohlrogge, Eric (Valerie) Ohlrogge, 
Mitchell (Kayla) Ohlrogge, Shane Ohlrogge, Bailey Bowles, Mason (Blair)

Frank Arthur Ohlrogge

Josephine M. Wiesner, age 91, of Concordia, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, November 17, 2022, at Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS.

She was born on March 27, 1931, in Hays, KS to John P. &amp; Josephine C. (Orth) Pfeifer. She graduated from Girls Catholic High School, Hays, KS on May 24, 1948, and married Marvin R. Wiesner on August 10, 1948. They built a home and farmed in Ogallah, KS and moved to Ellis in 1962, to Salina in 1965, now with eight children, and then to Concordia in the fall of 1967.

She
 was an affectionate loving mother and grandmother. Always of strong 
Catholic faith, she was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic 
Church and a Eucharistic Minister. She served her community as a 
longtime Red Cross Blood Donor Coordinator (Volunteer of the Year Award 
for Central Plains Blood Services Region) and a Hospice Volunteer. She 
managed the Shaklee Health Supplement Retail Store and later worked as a
 bookkeeper for the Cloud County Co-Op Elevator until she retired in 
December 1994.

She
 was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and their children: 
Ellen L Wiesner, Ruth A Hillman and Gregory J Wiesner; brothers, Albert 
and Walter Pfeifer and a sister, Alice Eichelberger.

 is survived by her children, Virginia M “Jean” Bachand (Lonnie),

Luella Theresa Herrman, age 89, of 
Hays, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at HaysMed. Luella
 was born July 20, 1933, in Hays to Fidelis and Thecla (Ruder) Dinges. 
She graduated from Schoenchen High School. On October 15, 1951, she 
married Maynard Herrman in Hays. He preceded her in death on June 3, 
2015.

Luella was a homemaker and had worked 
at Travenol and Fort Hays State University. She was a woman of strong 
faith, and her family was truly important to her. She loved to keep a 
beautiful home, garden and maintained impeccable flower beds. She had 
participated in Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers and was a 
member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

&nbsp;Luella is survived by a son, Steven 
Herrman and wife Deborah of Rockport, TX; a daughter, Trudy Leikam and 
Husband Robert of Hays; a brother, Robert Dinges and wife Darlene of 
Dalton, Georgia; two sisters, Doris Lang of Overland Park, Kansas and 
Judith Withers of Hays; a sister-in-law, Mildred Dinges of Hays; seven

Donald B. Williams (Commo Willy), 80 years old of WaKeeney, Kansas,
 passed away on November 20,2022. Don was born in Nassawadox, Virginia 
on July 24, 1942.&nbsp; e graduated from Norview High School in Norfolk, 
Virginia.&nbsp; 

Don was united in marriage to Teressa Meier on December 28th,
 1990, they were married 32 years. He served in the United States Army 
for 21 years, in Special Forces for 20 of those years.&nbsp; As a Green Beret
 Master Sergeant, Don received numerous awards and decorations which 
include the Combat Infantry Badge, Master Parachutist Wings, Bronze Star
 Medal, 3 Awards of Army Commendation Medal with V device for Valor, 3 
awards of Army Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry 
w/Bronze Palm, Ranger tab, Republic of China parachutist wings, Thai 
Parachutist Wings, Vietnam Parachutist Wings, Legion of Merit, 2 
Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 11 
Campaign Stars, SCUBA Badge, National Defense Medal, Civil Action Medal 
First Class, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, 
Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Rifle Badge, 6 Good Conduct Medals, 3

 He also served with the 7th&nbsp;and 10th&nbsp;Special 
Forces Groups and also was a Special Forces SCUBA instructor, and a 
Special Forces Ski instructor. Despite already being a Special Forces 
Green Beret, he successfully passed Ranger training. He was honorably 
discharged from the military at 43 years of age due to a gunshot wound 
to the thoracic spine. His subsequent paralysis and being wheelchair 
bound did not slow him down. Don remained self- driven, he always 
expected excellence from himself and those around him.&nbsp; 

Don never gave 
up despite the challenges he faced in the last years of his life. Don 
was an avid animal lover, when choosing a new dog recently at the humane
 society he wanted all of them! He was compassionate and loved to laugh 
and enjoyed making others laugh.&nbsp;

Don is survived by his wife Teressa; his children Y Gol (A Gan) of 
Charlotte, NC, Sherry Hodgson (Sean) of Lawrence, KS, Tracy Hammond 
(Kris) of Rupert, Idaho, and Amerie Cavasos (Leo) of Highlands Ranch, 
Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and his brother 
Clinton Mclain of Morriston, Florida. Don is preceded in death by his 
parents William Lilliston and Georgie Lou Polk Williams.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 26th, at
 Schmitt Funeral Home. Harold Demoret of Bethany Baptist Church will be 
officiating.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the 
funeral service.&nbsp;

Donald Bruce Williams

Alta Ruth Cochrane passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022, in 
Lawrence, Kansas, at the age of 98. Ruth was born In Hoisington, Kansas,
 on January 28, 1924, to Robert Leroy and Mary Alta Peterson. In her 
childhood Ruth lived briefly in Bushton, Kansas, and Galva, Kansas, but 
lived most of her life in Hoisington. She graduated from Hoisington High
 School in 1942, then from Chillicothe Business College later that year.
 Ruth was the first woman hired at First National Bank in Hoisington. 
While working there, she met her future husband, Joe Cochrane, who had 
joined his dad at the Ben Franklin store. They wed on March 24, 1945, 
and had four children.

Ruth was a bookkeeper for Manweiler Chevrolet and Bressler Heat and 
Air and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, First United Methodist Church 
where she sang in the choir, bowling leagues (including local and state 
championship teams), a pinochle club and several bridge clubs. Ruth also
 played golf, delivered Meals on Wheels, and knitted baby caps and lap 
blankets for RSVP. Ruth was an avid traveler and enjoyed trips in the 
US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean. Ruth moved to 
Lawrence, Kansas in 2021.

Preceding Ruth in death were her parents, her husband, Joe Cochrane, 
and her sister, Carol Seek. Ruth is survived by her four children, 
Barbara Osborn (Ed) Okmulgee, Oklahoma; Bob Cochrane (Merry) Dowagiac, 
Michigan; Larry Cochrane (Alison) Wimberley, Texas; Cindy Swanson (Dave)
 Lawrence, Kansas; her sister Dorothy Huddleston, Lampasas, Texas; five 
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington 
on Thursday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. to be followed by a short 
graveside service and a luncheon in the fellowship hall at First United 
Methodist Church in Hoisington.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Meals on 
Wheels, Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, or your favorite charity, in

Lawrence, Kansas, at the age of 98. Ruth was born In Hoisington, Kansas,
 on January 28, 1924, to Robert Leroy and Mary Alta Peterson. In her 
childhood Ruth lived briefly in Bushton, Kansas, and Galva, Kansas, but 
lived most of her life in Hoisington. She graduated from Hoisington High
 School in 1942, then from Chillicothe Business College later that year.
