Gary I. Cheney was born on July 9, 1943, to Carl and Grace Cheney in 
Colby, Kansas, at the height of wheat harvest.  He grew up on the family
 farm, the “Old Sears” place, always helping his father and mother with 
chores (milking cows or tending chickens), watching over his baby 
brother, C. Duane, or chasing his dog, Beans, up to the neighbors 
--getting switched by Mom most of the way home.  Beans was too fast for 
her!

He went to school in Rexford and graduated in 1961, with many friends and cousins.

Gary always had a quick, almost shy, smile for everyone and always remembered them, no matter how long since he’d seen them.

In
 October 1962, he, and a high school friend, enlisted in the Air Force 
at the recruiting site in Colby, Kansas.  He soon found himself on a bus
 to Kansas City, where he boarded a train for San Antonio, Texas.  He 
and his friend parted company there until the end of his 4-year term and
 he returned home to the family farm, with a wife and baby girl, Carin. 


 The three of them rented a little house in Rexford, where he took a job
 at the local Co-op.  Gary wanted to farm, but there weren’t any places 
at the time, so he applied for a VA benefit under the GI bill and 
enrolled at the new Colby College in a new program through K-State for 
Meat Inspecting.  He earned an associate’s degree and went to work as a 
meat inspector for local locker plants and preparing to move to the “Old
 Woerpel” place north of Rexford.  Gary inspected during the day and 
farmed on the evenings and weekends, where he grew wheat, milo, and feed
 for his small cow herd.  At this time, his wife (a city girl) decided 
she knew how they could expand the herd and Gary listened to her, 
laughing at the idea!  But when they increased the calf crop by almost 
double, they worked at it together.  By then Gary had a son, Matt, whom 
his daughter Carin would watch while helping when she could.  The years 
passed quickly and happily until 1981, when his dad, Carl passed away, 
leaving his mother, Grace alone.  Gary was driving a school bus by then,
 his kids first on and last off, but they didn’t mind because they 
usually stopped at Grandma’s for a cookie.

Life went by all too 
fast for Gary and Kay and as always happens when it gets to the end of 
their lives; illness comes knocking and won’t go away.  Gary fought 
courageously to the end, and we all pray that when God reached out His 
Hand, Gary took it the way he lived his life…. with every piece of 
willpower, he could master and said, “I’m ready, take me home”!  Gary 
will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 
the home Kay, Carin and spouse Aaron Derbonne of Wright, WY; Matt and 
spouse Lyn, granddaughters Amanda Kay and his little Sassy Lassie Amie 
Lynne; brother Duane, spouse Jo; first sister-in-law Marge, nieces Jenny
 Beemer and Shanna Carl; many cousins and friends.

He was always smiling and will be missed dearly by many!

Robert Eugene Goetz

Larry Joseph Kogl, 82, took his final journey and went home to heaven on
 Tuesday evening, December 6th, 2022, at his home in Atwood, KS. He was 
born February 10, 1940, in Atwood, KS to Harry and Alice (Dozababa) Kogl
 and was the oldest of five siblings. 
Larry graduated from Atwood Community High School in 1958. Over 50 years
 later, the longtime bachelor was reunited with his high school 
sweetheart, Janice Schissler. They married on a snowy day, February 10, 
2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood. It was also Larry’s 
78th birthday and he claimed it was the best birthday present ever. 
His Catholic faith grew throughout his life becoming most important in 
his later years and was what he especially held onto after Jan’s tragic 
passing in 2019. 
Larry learned to be a hard worker from his dad and enjoyed being a 
bricklayer, a trucker and a businessman the most. He owned and ran the 
Plainsman Tavern and the Poolhall in Atwood, KS and Cruisers in Colby, 
KS. He drove trucks in many capacities and for various people and 
businesses. He was very proud to become an independent owner-operator 
for Landstar and in 2008 he was honored to receive the Million-Mile 
Landstar Driver award. The “Wolfman” truly loved being out on the road 
seeing different places, hauling different types of loads, visiting 
family and friends and meeting people everywhere he went. 
Larry was one-of-a-kind. He never met a stranger and was always happy to
 greet people with a smile and an unhurried conversation. He was 
perfectionist, and always had to do things the “right” way, or at least 
“his” way. Despite the occasional grumbles of curmudgeonry, he had a big
 heart, enjoyed life and cared about others. 
He was loved and his presence will be greatly missed during family 
dinners, get-togethers, and phone calls. His ready smile, handshakes, 
and conversations will be missed by his family and his many friends from
 Atwood and across the country. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; parents; sister, Vivian 
Bondurant; brother-in-law Dennis Buford and nephew, Trevor Buford. 
He leaves behind many unique and special memories with his family: 
sisters, Mardell Buford, of Atwood, KS; Julian (Woody) Woodward of 
Lenexa, KS; and brother, James (Vicky) Kogl of Atwood, KS, 3 nieces, 5 
nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews, and a step-granddaughter.

Larry Joseph Kogl

Nancy Ann (Spears) Earl, of Stockton, KS, passed away on December 8, 
2022, at her home, with her husband and daughters by her side, at the 
age of 62. She was born on April 6, 1960, to Charles Sr. and Bernice 
(Burba) Spears in Springfield, OH. She was married to Douglas Earl on 
July 15, 2000, in Pine, CO.

Nancy grew up in 
Springfield, Ohio and graduated from South High School in 1978, where 
she was a member of the South High Marching Band and played clarinet 
fluently. She later went on to attend night school at the local 
community college and attained a degree related to business in data 
processing. She and her family moved to Colorado in 1991 eventually 
moving to Bailey, CO. She worked for several data processing companies 
with the last being Countrywide Mortgage Co. until 2008 when the 
mortgage crisis hit. This helped push her and Doug’s decision to move 
back to Doug’s roots in Stockton where they started their business, DNA 
Transmissions (Doug &amp; Nancy’s Affordable Transmissions). Doug did 
the messy work, and she worked the books and front for several years 
until her illnesses took hold.

Nancy was an avid 
bowler. She and her husband played on a League for many years. Her other
 passions were camping, fishing, and football — especially the Dallas 
Cowboys but most of all, her grandkids.

Nancy is 
survived by her husband, Douglas Earl of the home in Stockton; 
daughters, Stephanie Spears of Stockton, Angela (Noah) Dixon of 
Stockton, and Christine Spears of Westminster, CO; brother, Ronald 
Spears of Springfield, OH; sisters, Carolyn Smith of Stockton and 
Barbara Rose of Springfield, OH; 8 grandchildren, Skyler Taggart, 
Charles Towers, Braeden Alvis, Thomas, Bailey, Kaylyn, Matthew, Emmalyn,
 Adam, and JoyAnna Dixon; and 1 great-grandchild, Bexley Dixon. As well 
as her best friend, Ruth Dixon of Springfield, OH.

She 
is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Sr. and Bernice Spears; 
brother Charles “Charlie” Spears Jr.; and honorary daughter, Cleola 
Dixon.

Nancy will be greatly missed by those she leaves
 behind. Although she left us too soon, we are rejoicing with the angels
 as she enters her heavenly home, anticipating the time when we will see
 her again, and be reunited together in eternity.

A 
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 
2022, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home in Stockton. Visitation will be 
held on Tuesday, 3PM until 8PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow 
at the Woodston Cemetery.

Myra was a devoted mother who enjoyed time spent with her family. She
 also enjoyed sewing, crafting, painting, cooking, and floral arranging — at one time owning her own floral shop.

Myra is survived by: her children, Ava Manche of Colorado, Sandy 
Bowlby and husband Jerry of Burrton, Kenny Manche and wife Pamela of 
Hutchinson, Shelly Stephens and husband David of Arkansas, Sonny Bray of
 Hutchinson, Mark Bray and wife Sarah of Hoisington; 15 grandchildren; 
17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale Pitchford of Hutchinson, Mandean 
Pitchford and wife Barbara of South Hutchinson, RC Pitchford, Jimmy

Phillipsburg resident John E. Rockey passed away December 7, 2022, at the Harlan County Hospital in Alma, NE at the age of 60.

John was born August 4, 1962, in Belleville, KS the son of William O. and Kathleen Joan (Kovich) Rockey.

He was united in marriage to Janet F. Dressen on April 14, 1986, in Stockton, KS.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter Cyrstal O’Rourke and husband Kevin
 of Phillipsburg; daughter Natasha; son Jason; brother Robert Rockey and
 wife Andrea of Hutchinson, KS; sisters Lorie Campbell and husband Max

John E. Rockey

Kirwin, Kansas, resident Gary S. Davis, age 77, passed away Friday, 
December 9, 2022, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS.

He was born August 30, 1945.&nbsp; We believe he may have originated from 
the Chicago, Illinois, area and that he had worked in Florida as a 
Fishing Mate on fishing charter boats.

He was a Marine and had served in Vietnam, receiving the Purple Heart for his sacrifice.

Mary Louise Erlich, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her 
loved ones in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on December 20, 
1939, in Claflin, Kansas, to Walter and Anna (Heinz) Kaiser.

After raising her family in Great Bend, Kansas, Mary moved to 
Colorado Springs, Colorado. She spent her working years as a caregiver 
for the elderly in retirement communities. Mary Lou enjoyed playing 
cards, reading, completing her crafts, and especially spending time with
 her family.

Survivors include: a son, Randall Drees of Hoisington; three 
daughters, Carma (Rick) Strayer of Hoisington, Kelly Anthony of Calhan, 
Colorado, and Christy Harmon of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven 
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Kaiser of 
Pratt. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Royce, 
Melvin, and Jerry Kaiser; and a sister, Carmen Kaiser.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Mass of 
Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 
2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin, Kansas, with

Barbara Lenora Koelling, 87, of Paradise, Kansas, died on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Barbara was born on August 27, 1935, in rural Osborne, Kansas, the daughter of George and Gladys (Cadorett) Conway.&nbsp;&nbsp;She grew up in the Osborne County area and graduated from Osborne High School. &nbsp;She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Koelling on May 5, 1957, in Osborne, Kansas. &nbsp;From this union, Barbara and Lawrence were blessed with 3 sons Keith, Kirk and Kyle. &nbsp;She worked hard as&nbsp;a homemaker and&nbsp;a farm wife working closely with&nbsp;Lawrence, helping work&nbsp;the family farm. &nbsp;She was a member of the Natoma City Cemetery board and the Jayhawk CB club. &nbsp;She enjoyed cooking&nbsp;and sewing and loved her chickens. &nbsp;She was also well known as a wonderful cook and was famous for cooking the best fried chicken and&nbsp;cinnamon&nbsp;rolls. &nbsp;Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Surviving family include her sons Keith Koelling and wife&nbsp;Jill of Paradise, Kansas; Kirk Koelling and wife Judy of Russell, Kansas and Kyle Koelling and wife Becky of Natoma, Kansas; 3 brothers Raymond&nbsp;Conway and wife Carol of Beloit, Kansas, Bill Conway and wife Coleen of&nbsp;Osborne, Kansas and Pat Conway and wife Lillian of Alton,&nbsp;Kansas; sister&nbsp;Carol Knott of Salina, Kansas; 2 grandchildren Ethan&nbsp;and Hannah&nbsp;and&nbsp;numerous&nbsp;step grandchildren. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence on February 21, 2009; sister Georgia James and brother John Conway.

Isabella graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 2015 as Co-Valedictorian and then attended Sterling College to study Art.

Isabella was a creative artist, with a big smile and positive 
attitude even in hard times, who found a way to paint sunshine into her 
interactions with so many. She loved Jesus, art, music, memorizing the 
Bible, animals, and her friends and family. Isabella made us all want to
 be better.

Isabella is survived by her parents: Kent &amp; Kerri Footh of 
Phillipsburg; siblings: Hope (Eric) Padilla of Smith Center, KS, Eddie 
(Austyn) Werner of Phillipsburg, KS, Sebastian (Danielle) Footh of Hays,
 KS, Levi Werner of Phillipsburg, KS, and Christina Footh of

 in Abilene, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on October 17, 1922, in Scott County,
 Kansas, the daughter of Harry &amp; Rhonda Simmons Crist.&nbsp; A lifetime 
resident of Scott City, Kansas, until moving to Abilene, Kansas, in 2005, 
she was a mother &amp; homemaker.

She was a member of the Church Of The Brethren in Friend, Kansas and 
was very active at the Brethren In Christ in Abilene, Kansas.&nbsp; She was 
also a member of HGL Club, El Quartelejo Saddle Club and Kolorful Kansas
 Art Association.

On December 9, 1942, she married Raymond Daniels in LaJolla, 
California.&nbsp; He passed away on January 30, 2005, in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include her Two Daughters - Donna &amp; Mike Samples of 
Abilene, Kansas, Linda Jo &amp; Ron Weatherbie of Princeton, Kansas, One
 Grandson - Caleb &amp; Alisha Stroup of Princeton, Kansas, One

Richard Roy Wheeler, 85, died December 7, 2022, at his home with his 
wife at his side.&nbsp; He was born June 14, 1937, in Norton, Kansas, the son
 of Hazel Wheeler.&nbsp; Rich spent his early childhood years in the 
Northwestern Kansas area, moving to Hoisington in the 1950’s.&nbsp; An oil 
field worker for over 50 years, Rich was a roughneck and a tool pusher, 
working for Woodman &amp; Iannitti Drilling Company and Duke Drilling 
Company.

On July 24, 1995, he married Cynthia L. “Cindy” Kaiser in Deadwood, South Dakota.

A man of many interests, Rich’s hobbies included playing cards and 
tinkering on different projects around the house, specifically his 
tractors and lawnmowers – which he took pride in keeping his yard 
pristine. He loved to travel: whether that was on back roads driving 
with his wife, going to casinos, taking cruises with his wife or with 
his extended family members, or to his favorite destination, Hawaii. He 
lived life to its fullest and at times even on the edge.&nbsp; True to his 
nature, he had an open heart and was extremely generous, always ready to
 lend a hand.&nbsp; He enjoyed spending time with his family hosting many 
holiday’s, barbequing, camping, watching the younger children hunt 
Easter eggs followed by the adults hunting those “special” eggs. Many 
fun times and forever memories were given by him freely.

Rich was a dog and cat person, especially to his furry fur babies 
Jaxson and June Bug, who both survive. His four grandsons, Dallas Jr., 
Royce, Braeden &amp; Alex brought him tons of laughter and unlimited 
priceless moments and love.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cindy Wheeler of the home; 
and his three children, Rory Wheeler of Holyrood, Natasha Cole (Kenny) 
of Hoisington, and Dallas Sleezer Sr. of Lochbuie, Colorado; four 
grandchildren, Dallas Sleezer Jr., Royce Sleezer, Braeden Sleezer and 
Alex Cole; mother-in-law, Pauline Kaiser of Salina; sisters-in-law, 
Coletta Gisick of Odin, Connie Hatten of Great Bend, Christine Morrison 
of Wichita, Cindy Kaiser of Newton, Clara Oborny and Camille Straub both
 of Wichita; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by; his mother, Hazel Wheeler; son, Kelly 
Wheeler; sister, Shirley Bell; father-in-law, Royce Kaiser; and 
brothers-in-law, Curtis Kaiser and Duane Oborny.

Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 12,
 2022, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel. Family will greet friends
 prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. Per his request, cremation 
has taken place and there will be no viewing.

Thomas&nbsp;J.&nbsp;“Tom”&nbsp;Pitner, born on August 22, 1933, near Atwood, Kansas, a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son, farm boy, friend, banker, S.J.M.A. Cadet, seeker of truth and understanding, FHSU booster, community pillar, and fellow sufferer,&nbsp;passed away&nbsp;in his sleep on December 5, 2022, in his 90th year, supported by his wife Carol and their extended families. &nbsp;

Tom loved Carol and his family. Tom loved life. Tom had great faith. Tom loved a shot of whiskey in the evening. &nbsp;Tom loved his work, and Tom loved working his plan. &nbsp;The strong-willed son of strong-willed Czech and Polish parents, Tom never chose his path because it would be easy. &nbsp;Rocks, roots, and unbroken land never kept his furrow from being straight and true. &nbsp;When, as happens, the first pass wasn’t right, Tom put his plow back in the ground and stopped only when his work met the exacting standards of John and Beulah, Tom’s exacting parents, whose standards became his own.

Blocked from a military career by a high school football injury, blocked from college by the responsibilities of early marriage and children, Tom’s resilience, drive, intelligence, and will led him to a career in insurance, and then, with the help of friends and mentors, into banking.  After learning banking at the School of Grab a Shovel and Start Digging Hard Knocks in Ames, Iowa, Tom and Carol returned to Kansas, that is, Ad Astra per Aspera.

Befitting a farm boy with neither capital, family connections, nor a college education, Tom was given the hardest job, turning around banks in distress. Tom embraced his opportunities. Demanding excellence from himself and others, and with Carol’s unwavering support, made banks in WaKeeney and Hays both successful businesses and community leaders. &nbsp;Because no good deed goes unpunished, and because finding a person who is both a good banker and a good Democrat is a rare thing in Kansas, Tom was appointed by the Governor to be a member of the Kansas Banking Commission.

Tom cared not about a person’s family pedigree, skin color, political affiliation, religion, or sexual orientation. Like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Tom judged his fellows by the content of their character (and of their business plan), though he also admired anyone who could hit a long tee shot or cook a good ribeye steak (the latter being a requirement for marrying his daughters).

In his nearly 90 years, Tom experienced the full measure of joy, sorrow, successes and disappointments. &nbsp;Preceded in death by his son Tim, who suffered from untreatable depression and who died from suicide, Tom turned his own suffering to action. &nbsp;Tom became a champion for those with mental illness, was on the Board of NAMI, and brought support and comfort to many by telling Tim’s story, and his own, in the Hays newspaper.

It is said that the story of a person’s life need not be long for it to be good. &nbsp;The story of Tom’s life is both long and good. &nbsp;Still, Tom wanted more. &nbsp;More time with Carol. &nbsp;More time to see how the stories of the lives of his grandchildren and great grandchildren would unfold. &nbsp;More sunrises and sunsets. More time to watch wheat ripen and birds sing. And more time to develop his short game. &nbsp;In a real sense, Tom’s death does not bring his story to an end. &nbsp;Tom’s influence, both as an inspiration and warning, will live on in those of us who knew him. &nbsp;Whenever we look to ensure our furrow is straight, see the opportunities in obstacles, or enjoy a delicious meal, we will feel Tom’s influence. &nbsp;And, too, Tom’s life will remind us not to wait too long to work on our own end games.

Davy E. Rothe, 86, of Hutchinson, died December 2, 2022, in 
Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born September 14, 1936, in Great Bend, Kansas, the 
son of Martin W. and Mabel A. Petersilie Rothe of Ness City, KS.

Davy graduated from Ness City High School in 1954.&nbsp; He proudly served
 in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954-1957 as a radio operator, achieving
 the rank of Sergeant.&nbsp; He moved to Hutchinson in 1957 and attended 
Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; Davy spent his career as a floor 
installer.&nbsp; He enjoyed camping, boating, hunting, carpentry, collecting 
toy tractors, playing cards, attending his grandchildren’s activities, 
games, concerts and recitals and spending time with his family.

On January, 30, 1976, Davy married Rebecca J. Koestel in Oklahoma.&nbsp; 
He is&nbsp; survived by: wife, Rebecca of Hutchinson; son, Clay (Karen) 
Rothe, Hutchinson; daughter, Laura (Andy) McReynolds, Hutchinson; 
daughter, Jayne Ediger, Partridge; daughter, Amy (James) Fletcher, 
Wichita; and son, David (Robyn) Rothe, Goddard; 13 grandchildren; 11 
great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Private services are pending.

Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 4th, 2022, in the presence of 
his beloved life Partner Kathy Blue. Glen was born December 7th, 1958, in
 La Crosse, KS the son of Virgil and Eldora Jacobs.

Glen is survived by his Mother Eldora Mae Lindt. Partner in life 
Kathy Blue. Brother’s Tom Jacobs, Harlan Jacobs, Dennis Jacobs. Daughter
 Jermae and Son Dylan. Stepchildren Katie Young (Josh) of Canon City CO,
 Heidi Blue of Canon City CO, Peter Blue (Shelly) of Beloit KS. He had 
15 grandkids. Ty (Megan), Breanna, Mason, Kylie, Leslie, Brendan 
(Lizzy), Ashley, Tanner, Landen, Jasmine, Evan, Maddie &amp; Benny. 8 
great grandkids. Aiden, Harper, Nash, Bruce, Kaybri, Tytan, Jace and 
Darius.

Glen was preceded in death by his father Virgil Jacobs, younger brother Joseph and several other family members.

Glen never knew a stranger and his home was always open to all. He 
loved working with his hands and was an amazing artist. He helped build 
our family church in Lincoln KS along with our church in Beloit. Glen 
also enjoyed working on his family farm.

Annie Wauneta Parsons was born March 5, 1927, in Logan, Kansas, at the 
Hutchinson Farm to Willie “Bill” Carl and Annie Josephine (Fisk) 
Hutchinson and passed away peacefully December 5, 2022, at Norton County 
Hospital.

Waunnie was 8th out of 10 children, she and her siblings had a 
special bond and shared many fun times.&nbsp; Waunnie graduated from Logan 
High School in 1945 and then enjoyed teaching at the country school.

On October 9, 1947, she married her loving and devoted husband, 
Johnnie Parsons. They raised four children, DeeAnn, Max, Paula and Jill.

Waunnie was a homemaker, active member of the United Methodist Church
 and American Legion Auxiliary. She was very proud of her families 
military service. Waunnie was known for her baking and the many, many 
beautiful cakes she made for all occasions. She enjoyed the outdoors and
 shared the love of gardening and canning with many people.&nbsp; Her yard 
was a great place to sit, drink coffee and enjoy her love of flowers and
 birds. Waunnie also enjoyed quilting and she shared her beautiful 
hand-made quilts with family and friends. If there was a ballgame on tv,
 she was watching! Definitely never missing the KC Royals and Chiefs!

She is survived by son, Max (Karen) Parsons, Ness City, daughters, 
DeeAnn Ward, Hays, Paula Stutterhiem, Prairie View and Jill (Ray) Lampe,
 Tonganoxie. Grandchilden, Annie Diedrich, AJ Ward &amp; Cathy, Dustin 
&amp; Aimee Parsons, Barry &amp; Nikki Parsons, Heather &amp; Mark 
Solberg, Brandy &amp; Jeremy Coozennoy, Will &amp; Jamie Stutterheim,

Ronald “Ronnie” K. Parks, 85, left this earth in quiet and peaceful 
comfort on December 6, 2022, at the Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, 
Kan.. He was born September 29, 1937, in Stafford, Kan., the only son of 
Charles K. and Elizabeth G. (Logue) Parks. He married Joan 
(Gallaugher) in Enid, Okla. on April 17, 1959. They would welcome their 
first child, Kenneth J. Parks in November of that year. Their second 
child, Julie Parks was born July 12, 1961, and they completed their 
family with the birth of their third and final child, Ronald “Stony” L. 
Parks on October 2, 1962. Ronnie was a man for his time and place,

 beginnings, he built a life and raised a family with his wife, Joan. 
They lived in Medicine Lodge, Kan., Ellis, Kan., Ellinwood, Kan., and 
eventually settled in Woodward, Okla. after his retirement. He 
built his career in the oilfield, working for Gabbert &amp; Jones 
Drilling Company and eventually Cheyenne Drilling Company until his 
retirement in 2002. His work ethic was revered by all those he worked 
with and it subsequently propelled him through the ranks of the drilling
 industry. After his retirement, Cheyenne Drilling would go on to name a
 rig after him. He was the foundation and stronghold for his family
 in good times and otherwise. He was strong and quiet, but full of love 
and support. He was the ultimate provider to those he loved. 
He is survived by his eldest son, Kenny and wife Tonya of Elkhart, Kan.;
 grandson Tyler Parks of Hugoton, Kan.; grandson Chance and wife Chelsey
 Parks of Ratliff City, Okla. and their children, his 
great-grandchildren, Andria and Kenneth; granddaughter Whitney Parks of 
Hays, Kan.; grandson Cole Parks of Elkhart, Kan., grandson Caleb Parks 
of Woodward, Okla.; and sister Velta Youngblood of Tucson, Ariz.; and 
numerous nieces and nephews. Ronnie is preceded in death by 
his parents; wife Joan Parks; daughter Julie Parks; son Ronald “Stony” 
Parks; grandson Brent Parks; and sister Shirley Carmin. 
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 
Larrison Funeral Home, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Interment will follow 
at the Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS. Visitation will be from 
1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, at Larrison Funeral Home.

 </figure>Ronald “Ronnie” K. Parks, 85, left this earth in quiet and peaceful 
comfort on December 6, 2022, at the Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, 
Kan.. He was born September 29, 1937, in Stafford, Kan., the only son of 
Charles K. and Elizabeth G. (Logue) Parks. He married Joan 
(Gallaugher) in Enid, Okla. on April 17, 1959. They would welcome their 
first child, Kenneth J. Parks in November of that year. Their second 
child, Julie Parks was born July 12, 1961, and they completed their 
family with the birth of their third and final child, Ronald “Stony” L. 
Parks on October 2, 1962. Ronnie was a man for his time and place, 
finding success through his hard work and determination. From his humble

Ronald 'Ronnie' K. Parks

Darrell Tegarden, 73, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born February 26, 1949, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Norman Raymond and Lois May Dover Tegarden.

Moving from Rogers, Arkansas, he was a Larned resident since 2009. He
 was contractor and built approximately 400 homes. He played softball, 
baseball, basketball, and football and was All American Kansas, played 
semiprofessional baseball, and was inducted into the Wichita West Hall 
of Fame for football and baseball. He was a member of the First Southern
 Baptist Church, Larned, served as a church deacon and loved fishing, 
hunting, guns, and knives.

He married Cathy L. O’Conner on August 25, 1968, in Wichita, Kansas.

Other survivors include: 2 daughters, Kari Moreton, Larned, and Amy 
(Paul) Carrington, Pratt, Kansas; sister, Elaine Tegarden, Texas, 
brother, Terry Tegarden, Dodge City, Kansas, Five grandchildren Austin 
(Kaylee) Carrington, Sara Beth Carrington, Max Moreton, William 
Carrington, and Seth Carrington; and 1 Great Grandchild Reuben 
Carrington.

He was preceded in death by: his parents and two sisters Judy Wallace and Janis Tegarden.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, 
2022, at the First Southern Baptist Church, Larned, with Brother Benny 
Thompson presiding.&nbsp; Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, 
December 12, 2022, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the

Darrell Ray Tegarden

Ben W. Keith, 93, passed away October 16, 2022, in Pharr, Texas. He 
was born August 17, 1929, in rural Graham County, Kansas, the first of 
two sons of William J. and Ethel L. (Fawcett) Keith. He grew up two 
miles west of Penokee along the Solomon River where he and his brother 
John ran barefoot, had a goat swing that swung out over a big embankment
 and chased lots of rabbits. He had always celebrated his birthday 
August 18th until he found his birth certificate and it stated he was 
born the 17th. His mom must have been in shock! His parents called him 
Benny until he started school when someone suggested that they shorten 
that to Ben, which sounded more grown up.

He attended Morland 
grade and high schools graduating in 1948. The boys rode with neighbors 
who drove Model A Fords and once had a ride in a 1926 Chevy. Ben enjoyed
 racing cars with John and their friends, wrestling and going to dances.
 Believe it or not, in high school he referred to himself as a 
“wallflower” because he was too shy to ask a girl to dance. He worked at
 the A.T. Sanger farm through high school, continuing working for the 
Sangers until joining the Armed Forces in June of 1954. He completed his
 basic training and schooling in Arkansas at Camp Chaffee. He was later 
stationed in Korea and was honorably discharged in June of 1956. He was 
proud to have served in the military and felt extremely honored when he 
received a Quilt of Valor in 2016. The quilt was on his chair and used 
every day.

When Ben returned to Graham County, he met and married 
Charlotte Riggs in 1959. Two daughters, Donna and Billie, were born to 
this union. The couple later divorced. In the mid-'60s, he joined his 
brother in a farm partnership and later owned his own farm. His favorite
 part of farming and ranching were the cattle. He would train them to 
come with a honk of his pickup horn. They would come running in great 
anticipation of a grain treat and the girls remember that if you weren’t
 fast enough to dump the grain, you would be surrounded by steers 
licking their lips! Farming and ranching were an integral part of Ben’s 
entire life and he was very proud when the farm received the recognition
 of a century farm. Ben was a member of the Masons for 70 years. He was a
 past Master of the Morland Lodge and later an active member of the 
Millbrook Lodge in Hill City. As an active community member,  he served a
 stint as Mayor of Morland, served on the cemetery, water district, and 
township boards.

Ben beamed with pride whenever he was with his 
grandson, Jay. On his summer visits from Texas, he was always amazed at 
how fast Jay was growing. Grandpa Ben had a plethora of gophers in his 
yard and taught Jay how to trap them, which Jay took great pleasure in 
showing his favorite aunt. There were several great nephews and young 
guests in town that got their first trapping and driving lessons from 
Ben. Jay has many memories with his grandpa, but a favorite is when they
 were catching minnows in the river and Grandpa just jumped right in. 
Ben’s laugh was contagious and couldn’t help a good laugh-out-loud every
 time he watched Jay’s dog and cat play hide, seek and attack!

Ben
 loved to travel and see new places. On one bus trip, he met Karen 
Stettes and together they enjoyed 25 years traveling and dancing. Their 
travels took them to Mexico, Alaska, New York and many bus trips 
throughout the United States. When they were home in Texas, they would 
have morning coffee and play a couple of dice games, of which he became 
quite proficient. In fact, he said he was almost ashamed that he kept 
winning! He also enjoyed playing cards and games, talking politics and 
made many friends especially if they were Republicans.

Preceding 
Ben in death were his parents, brother, John and sister-in-law Wilma and
  his niece Laura. Left to mourn his passing are his partner, Karen 
Stettes; daughters: Donna (Alex) Leslie and Billie (Mike) Frakes; and 
grandsons: Cody and Jay Frakes.
