 Margaret Durand, 94, died February 14, 2023, at Town Hall Estates in 
Arlington, TX. Born September 17, 1928, in Hoisington, KS, she was the 
daughter of Emil &amp; Helen (Remley) Pflughoeft.&nbsp;In 1946 she graduated 
from Hoisington High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married the love of her life, George Leroy Durand, on July 20, 1947. 

Glennis
 lived in Great Bend, KS and was a dedicated secretary for the General 
Adjustment Bureau for over 30 years. Her passions in life included being
 a wife &amp; mother, crocheting, crafting, collecting antiques, 
preserving family memorabilia, and spending time with friends &amp; 
family. Mrs. Durand was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, local
 square-dancing club, &amp; an active participant in the American Legion
 with her husband.

Survivors
 include her two daughters, Kathy Hancock &amp; husband Randy of 
Arlington, TX &amp; Colleen Stevenson of Rockledge, FL; six 
grandchildren, Kelly Schmitt &amp; wife Kim of Wichita, KS, Dawn

Wanda Jane (Hess) Davis was born on December 22, 1938, to Francis Elwood
 Hess and Carmen Ena (Hobble) Hess in Colby, Kansas. She attended Colby 
Public Schools graduating in May of 1956. Wanda was not interested in 
pursuing a college education as her parents offered but opted instead to
 continue working at the Chamber of Commerce as a secretary for a year 
and a half, before marrying her sweetheart of four years, Don Albert 
Davis. Wanda continued secretarial positions for the next 37 years for 
various lawyers and as administrative assistants at Colby Community 
College AED and finally PTA/Nursing programs. 

Wanda valued becoming a 
mother and took 3 years off in this time to raise her two daughters, 
Lori Ann, and Joni Lynn. Her hobbies included financing antique 
auctions, sewing most of her young daughters’ clothes as well as the 
outfits of their dolls, quilting, plants, water aerobics, and supper 
with friends. In retirement, reading became her #1 hobby. Wanda was a 
passionate fan of her KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs. 
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Lori Davis Russell (Martin), Gretna,
 Nebraska, and Joni Ketchum, Colby, Kansas; grandson Andrew Jace Ketchum
 (Kaileigh) of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and granddaughters, Jenna Rae 
(Ketchum) Wark (Kaid), Rexford, Kansas, and Grace Lori Russell, Gretna, 
Nebraska; sister Marilyn (Hess) Wiley, Sun City West, Arizona, and 
sister-in-law Betty (Williams) Hess, Winfield, Kansas, as well as 
numerous extended family members and friends. Her biggest joy this last 
year was the addition of great-grandson Wyatt Nelson Wark born in May 
2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and 
brothers, Hazen Dean Hess and Ronald Dale Hess, as well as sister-in-law
 Donna (Garrett) Hess and brother-in-law Don Wiley. Her pursuit of doing
 things right, of integrity, and of having a high sense of 
responsibility were never more apparent than this last year when she 
achieved her goal of moving back to her beloved home after a triumphant 
battle with oral cancer. 
Visitation will take place from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 
2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. The Funeral Service will be at 10:30 
a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the mortuary, with burial in Beulah
 Cemetery, Colby.

Phyllis Lorene Gardenhire, 92, of Salina passed away, Friday, February 17, 2023.

She was born April 29, 1040, in Oakley, Kansas, to the late Laurence and Leona (Tinsley) Jones.

She had worked for Westinghouse/Phillips Light as a lamp group operator for 40 plus years before retiring.

Phyllis will be remembered as someone who loved to cook, crochet and play gospel music on her organ, she will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Laurence and Leona 
(Tinsley) Jones; her beloved husband: Thomas O. Gardenhire, her sons: 
Thomas Odell Gardenhire, Jr. and Alan Ernest Gardenhire; 3 sisters: 
Billie Gardenhire; Valerie Cooley and Margaret Ann Kirtley; two 
brothers: Gene Jones and Jesse Jones.

Survivors include her daughter: Marla (Thomas) Humphrey of Salina,

Katherine Marie “Katie” Leiker, 36, and 
Emmett James Leiker, her unborn son, of Munjor, Kansas, died Friday, 
February 17, 2023, at their home.

She was born December 30, 1986, in Enid,
 Oklahoma, the daughter of Todd and Terry (Washtak) Smith.&nbsp; In 2005, she
 graduated from the Galena School District in Alaska, and in 2010, 
graduated from Magdalen College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal 
Arts.&nbsp; On January 3, 2015, she was united in marriage to Jeff Leiker in 
Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; Katie worked for St. Francis Ministries, was a devout 
Catholic, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.&nbsp; She was an avid 
reader, writer, published author, and a talented artist at sketching and
 painting.&nbsp; This creativity flowed into special activities with her 
sons.&nbsp; She enjoyed nature, oceans, marine life, singing, acting in 
theater productions, and drinking tea.&nbsp; Family trips to zoos, museums, 
and historical landmarks were always special to her.

Survivors include her husband Jeff and 
three sons, Elliot, Ewan, and Edward Leiker of the home in Munjor, her 
parents, Todd and Terry Smith of Nebraska City, NE, a brother, Ben Smith
 and wife Breeana of Vacaville, CA, a sister, Betsy Sharp of Syracuse, 
NE, and a niece Olivia.

Katherine Marie 'Katie' Leiker

Paula Jo Wilson was born December 3, 1953, in Abilene, KS, to the 
late Paul Edward &amp; Pauline Bethel (Kohart) Hazelton.  She died on 
Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at her home in Davis, OK, at the age of 69
 years, 2 months, and 2 days.  Paula and Earl Dean Wilson were married 
on December 16, 1984, in Abilene.  He preceded her in death on September
 18, 2009.

Paula grew up in Abilene.  Following her 1971 
graduation from Abilene High School, she attended Fort Hays State 
University, in Hays, KS.  After college, she spent a few years working 
in hotel management, where her main job was coordinating conventions. 
While working in this field, Paula was fortunate to meet several 
well-known celebrities, professional singers, and musicians.  After 
leaving her position in convention coordinating, she spent five years 
working in hotel software logistics.  This position allowed her to 
travel about, assisting with the opening of new hotels.   After she and 
Earl married, Paula became a full-time mom.  She spent her time caring 
for her children and being active in Cub Scouts, PTA and many other 
interests that her children had.

Paula and her family 
moved to Oklahoma in 1995, where she continued her role as a very active
 mother.  Once the children were older, she attended East Central 
University in Ada, OK, where she earned a Bachelors degree in nursing.  
After graduating from ECU, Paula became employed with Mercy Health in 
Ardmore, OK, where until only a few months prior to her death, she 
worked as a registered nurse in the ICU.

Paula was 
known to be extremely creative. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and 
tutoring children with their reading skills.  Paula was also very active
 with the Pathway Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School 
Superintendent for several years, as well as taught Sunday School 
classes.  Her desire to serve God, allowed her to witness to others, 
bringing many to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior, just as she
 knew him.

Survivors include her daughter, Rebekah Wilson 
of Davis; three sons, Erik Wilson of Davis, Paul Wilson &amp; wife Regan
 of Stratford, OK, and Neil Wilson &amp; wife Allison of Healy, KS; five
 grandchildren, Genesis, Jericho, Neo, Tyndale and Jay Wilson; three 
sisters, Judy Kohardt-Hazelton &amp; Jamie Davidson of Abilene, and 
Ellen Locke of Newton, KS; and one brother, David Hazelton &amp; wife 
Becky of Hutchinson, KS.

In addition to her parents and husband, Paula was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Riffel.

Funeral
 services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at 
the Pathway Methodist Church, in Davis, OK with Pastors Ben Williams and 
Robert Harrison officiating.  Interment will follow at the Green Hill 
Cemetery in Davis.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Pathway Men’s Breakfast Group.

Paul Hendrich, 94, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023, at SunPorch of Smith County, Smith Center, KS. Paul
 was born on November 16, 1928, in Sylvan Grove, KS, the son of Louis

Bradon Lee Brack, 44, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, in 
Glendale Arizona. Bradon was born December 9, 1978, in Great Bend, 
Kansas, the son of Brenda Suiter Brack and Brad Brack.

Bradon was a Great Bend High School graduate and a resident of Great 
Bend until 2002 when he moved to Arizona. Bradon was known for his witty
 one-liners and a joy to be around. He loved life and being around 
people. He loved his family above all else, even through difficulties 
and struggles.

Survivors include his mother, Brenda Brack; his father, Brad and his 
wife RaeAnn Brack; one daughter, Chandi Marissa; two sons, Bradon 
Bradley and Asher Lee and grandmother, Joyce Suiter.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joan and Bill 
Kephart and Lee Suiter; paternal grandparents, Edward and Virginia Brack
 and a sister, Chandi Lee Brack.

Bradon Lee Brack

Katlyn Marie Klima, of Oberlin, KS, passed away February 18, 2023, at 
the age of 26. She was born March 22, 1996, in McCook, NE to Brian and 
Lori (Shaffer) Klima.

Katlyn grew up in Oberlin and was a 2014 
graduate of Decatur Community High School. During Katlyn's time at DCHS 
she was actively involved in Basketball, Volleyball, Cheerleading and 
was on the honor roll. After high school, Katlyn became a mother to two 
beautiful children, Kelsen and Heidi Kane. Katlyn had a passion for her 
children that was undeniable. She was always involved in the kids’ 
afterschool activities and attended to their every need. Katlyn was a 
free spirit who loved life and kept things exciting, when she wasn't 
listening to music she was singing (or attempting to). Katlyn was always
 one of those kindhearted souls to help those around her and made 
friends everywhere she went. Our lives will forever be changed both by 
her presence and now by her loss.

Katlyn is survived by her 
children, Kelsen Ezra Kane and Heidi Marie Kane both of Oberlin, KS; 
parents, Brian Klima of Oberlin, KS and Lori Shaffer of Andrews, TX;

Wanda H. Davis (Hess)

Wanda Sue Cook, age 61, of Lake City, Florida, passed away on the 
morning of February 18, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born August
 18, 1961, to Archie Otis Farr Jr. and Mary Pinkard Farr in Lake City, 
Florida. On December 19, 1980, she married Dallas “Buddy” David Cook Jr.

Wanda was employed by Winn Dixie Supermarkets for the past 
twenty-three years. She was of the Methodist faith. Wanda loved spending
 time in her yard, watching her many plants and flowers grow. She 
enjoyed walks with her sisters. She was known for her artistic abilities
 and her love for floral arrangements. She always looked forward to 
family cookouts, holidays, and gatherings.

She is survived by her children Laura Cook, Lake City, Florida; 
Archie Cook and wife, DeAnna of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Dallas Cook, 
III and wife, Angel of Lake City, Florida, her mom, Mary Farr of Lake 
City, Florida; and two sisters, Lisa Rowe (Tony) of Lake City, Florida; 
and Donna Lubbers (Don) of Hays, Kansas;&nbsp; 4 grandchildren, Tyler and 
Haley Cook of Lake City, Florida; and Kaelyn and Landyn Cook of 
Knoxville, TN. She is, also survived by her nephew, Derek Davis 
(Chelsea); and three nieces Brittany Davis (Chris), Allison Lubbers, and
 Autumn Hohmann.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas “Buddy” Cook Jr., and dad Archie Farr, Jr.

A Viewing will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at
 Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Lake City, Florida, and services 
will follow immediately after at 11:00 AM. 

In lieu of flowers, the

Wanda Sue Cook

Johna Marie Hornung, 52, died February 14, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital 
in Wichita, following a nine-year battle with cancer. She was born on 
July 20, 1970, in Russell, the daughter of Carl and Phyllis (Ott) 
Klinzman. During her childhood, the family moved frequently 
throughout Kansas and some in Oklahoma following her father's work. The 
family eventually made their home in Ford. Johna graduated from Bucklin 
High School in 1988. After graduation, Johna attended Brown Mackey 
College in Salina. She later worked at the Marriott in Vail, Colorado. 
Johna returned to Dodge and worked at several places including Dillions,
 Arrowhead West, the Center for Independent Living, and as a para for 
USD 443. On October 22, 2011, Johna was united in marriage to 
Christian Hornung. They made their home in Dodge City. Johna returned to
 school, first at Dodge City Community College and then at Wichita State
 University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She then went to 
work at USD 443 as a sixth-grade social studies teacher at Comanche 
Middle School. Johna showed amazing strength and dedication as she was 
able to accomplish these goals while undergoing cancer treatments and 
dialysis. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her 
nieces and nephews. Johna is survived by her husband, Christian 
of Dodge City, three sisters, Nita Simonton and husband Marvin of Belle 
Plaine, Lenette Varnell and husband Gaylen of Ford, and Lee Walker and 
husband Henry of Salina; parents-in-law, Don and Christy Hornung of 
Dodge City; step-mother, Linda Klinzman of Columbus, brother-in-law, 
Matt Hornung and wife Victoria of Dodge City; nieces and nephews, 
Randall, Jeremy, Levi, Keith, Cody, and Nikita; great nieces and 
nephews, Zaine, Callie, Trivitt, Ayden, Livia, Jody, Brady, and Hannah. 
She is preceded in death by her parents; aunts and uncles, Bob and 
Thelma Klinzman, Bob and Dorothy Vise, and Pete Pasquale. Visitation
 will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Friday, February 
24, 2023, from 12:00 to 7:00 PM. with a Vigil Service starting at 7:00 
PM. Funeral service will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 
Dodge City on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 10:00 AM with Rev. Wesley 
Schawe presiding. Burial will follow at Ford Cemetery.

Elizabeth A. “Beth” Huston,&nbsp;age 72,&nbsp;of Hays&nbsp;passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born on July 9, 1950,&nbsp;in&nbsp;Hays, Kansas, to Julius J. and Lillian (Gerstner) Rohr. &nbsp;She married Douglas E. Huston on August 22, 1970, in Hays, Kansas.

She worked at Hays Travel, Hays&nbsp;State Bank, cleaned house for a few years, and was a homemaker.

Beth&nbsp;grew up in Hays, and was a 1968 graduate of Marian High School. &nbsp;She loved being a mother and was wonderful at it.&nbsp;She&nbsp;was always there for her children,&nbsp;and her husband. &nbsp;Beth was a pillar of strength, and determination for her family. Whatever life threw at her she was always able to stand up,and forge ahead. &nbsp;She will be sorely missed by all that knew her.&nbsp;

Beatrice Roberts, age 58, passed away late Thursday evening, February 16, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born December 5, 1964, at Mora, Minnesota, the daughter of 
Roy and Patricia Langenbau. As a young girl, she attended school in 
Mora, graduating from Mora High School. A resident of Lakin, Meade and 
Scott City, Kansas, she was a certified nurses aide and a homemaker.

On February 27, 1990, she married Terry Lee Roberts at Lakin, Kansas. He precedes her in death on April 4, 2009.

She is survived by her children, Wendy Boyer of Oklahoma City, 
Oklahoma, Kurt Boyer of Gothenburg, Nebraska, and Jessica Willet of 
Medford, Oklahoma; two brothers, Roy Langenbau and James Langenbau; a 
sister, Jennifer Langenbau; and six grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9:00 until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 
2023, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Memorial graveside

Marvel June Mitchell Castor, 87, of Russell, Kansas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Russell Regional Hospital with her children by her side.

Marvel was born March 28, 1935, on the family homestead near Covert, Kansas, the only daughter of Albert Lyle and Helen Lorene (Orr) Mitchell. She lived her early years on the family farm with her parents and older brother, Doyle and younger brother, Gerald. Marvel enjoyed her life on the farm. She loved to ride horses and was known for doing trick riding on her pony. Marvel also helped with her father’s cattle herd and continued this passion later in her life.

Marvel attended Covert schools, Osborne Junior High and graduated in 1953 from Osborne High School. In high school, Marvel was a dedicated student and participated in many clubs and activities. Marvel treasured her friendships from her early school years throughout her lifetime. After high school, Marvel attended Fort Hays State College and she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma. In January 1957, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology. In August of 1962, Marvel earned her Master of Science in Counseling. As a continuous learner, Marvel earned advanced graduate credit in psychology, educational curriculum and building/district administration certification. She held teaching certifications in Zoology, Psychology, Botany, Biology, and English.

While growing up in Osborne, Marvel met her life partner, Derril Lee Castor, when she was in junior high school. Their friendship continued throughout high school and college. Marvel and Derril were married on November 21, 1959 at the First Christian Church in Osborne, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children; L’Mitchell (Mitch) and Lezlee. They have made Russell their home since 1963.

Marvel’s 43 year teaching and counseling career began in Phillipsburg, Kansas from 1957-1960. She worked at Green Valley High School and Osborne High School. In 1963, Marvel started working at Russell High School as the guidance counselor until her retirement in 1999. From 1979-1999, Marvel served as the coordinator for Barton County Community College Outreach classes in the Russell area. During her years in education, Marvel served as a teacher, mentor, motivator, trusted listener, and pep talk giver. She could provide a shoulder to lean on or the voice saying, “keep your chin up and get going”. For Marvel, the relationships she cultivated throughout her career served as her true measures of success and the unique achievements of the lives she encouraged.

During retirement, Marvel and Derril didn’t slow down. They arguably worked harder and were busier than most of their employed friends and family. They traveled abroad several times, made hundreds of trips of Kansas City, and devoted thousands of hours refurbishing Marvel’s family farmhouse and property. Going to the farm was a daily occurrence for many years for Marvel and Derril and one that brought them both so much happiness.

Marvel also loved going to auctions, refinishing furniture, planting flowers-especially irises and peonies, working and checking cattle, reading, and volunteering. She was a member of DKG International Society of Women Educators, Chapter HD P.E.O., Russell’s Original Art Review (ROAR) Committee, Russell County Area Community Foundation, and Friends of Deines Board President for the Deines Cultural Center. Marvel was an active member of the Fort Hays State Alumni Association. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church of Russell and later attended the St. John Lutheran Church.

Marvel’s love for her family was unmatched. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother. She offered sound advice and wanted only the best for those willing to work for it. Marvel loved attending the events of her children and grandchildren, as she was always their most passionate and dedicated supporter.

Marvel’s surviving family includes her son, Mitch Castor of Prairie Village, Kansas; daughter, Lezlee Ivy (Eric) of Parkville, Missouri; and four grandsons, Connor Castor, Nick Castor, Brock Ivy and Tate Ivy; sister-in-law, Kathy Mitchell (Gary Chubb) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and her sons, David (Shabnam) Mitchell and Phil (Lauren) Mitchell; nieces Jolene (Rex) Kats, Joyce (Joe) Matal, and Dodie Mitchell. She also leaves behind a host of loving and dear friends.

Marvel was preceded in death by her husband Derril, her parents and brothers, Doyle Mitchell and Gerald Mitchell.

A celebration of Marvel’s life will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 11:00 A.M.&nbsp; Private burial of ashes will take place at a later time.&nbsp;

Memorials may be given to the Marvel and Derril Castor Fund at the Russell County Area Community Foundation and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service.

Wanda H. Limper, age 72, died Saturday, February 18, 2023, at her home 
in Ulysses. She was born August 9, 1950, in San Diego, California, the 
daughter of John Werner and WaDean (Miller) McClung. 
Wanda grew up in California and graduated from Grantville High School in
 El Cajon. She moved to Ulysses to marry Ronald Limper on October 20, 
1978. Wanda was always busy and worked as a bartender, accountant, real
 estate agent, recorder at the Grant County Court House Register of 
Deeds office, and was a payroll clerk for WT Contractors. She had her 
abstract license and owned and operated Grant County Land and Title 
until she retired. After retirement, she and Ron traveled all over the 
United States for two years seeing the sights and visiting family. 
Wanda also enjoyed vegetable gardening. 
Wanda is survived by Ron, her husband of 44 years; son, Randall Berry of
 Quinter, Kansas; daughter, Mitziauna Newland and husband Isaac of 
Blane, Washington; sisters, Mary Monk of Cottonwood, Alabama, and Pat 
Texler of Fortuna, California; two grandchildren, Giaus and Elliott 
Newland; sister-in-law, Sharon Wickwar of Ulysses; cousin, Lana and 
Terry Anderson of Ulysses; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and 
great-nephews. 
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, John and WaDean McClung; and her brother, John in 1973. 
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time.

She dedicated her life to her family, her community, and her Church. She
 was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church in Marienthal, Kansas.

On October 21, 1952, she married Albert Biel Jr. in Marienthal, Kansas. He passed away on February 8, 2020.

Surviving family include her children- Ron &amp; Verla Biel of 
Callaway, Nebraska, Stan &amp; Sherry Biel of Marienthal, Kansas, Bonnie
 &amp; Perry Owens of Minneapolis, Kansas,&nbsp; and Delores Hembree of 
Amarillo, Texas, one brother Hilary &amp; Connie Kessler of Scott City, 
Kansas, one sister Juanita Dinges of Ness City, Kansas, one

Dennis "Joe" Pflaum, age 75 of Hays, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at HaysMed. Joe was born on November 5, 1947, in Falls City, Nebraska to Albert and Leola (Wissman) Pflaum. On October 5, 1969, he married Vicki (Furnas) in the Falls City Methodist Church. Joe was the owner of Brown’s Shoe Fit in Hays for 41 years. In addition to owning the store he drove an Athletic Bus for Fort Hays State, drove a flagger vehicle for Hess Services moving oilfield tanks, as well as helping with car transports for local car dealerships. Joe was an avid outdoorsman particularly hunting and fishing and enjoyed traveling the country. His greatest joy was being able to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, Vicki Pflaum of Hays; his son, Aaron Matthew Pflaum and significant other, Stacy Budig and his children, twin girls, Brooke and Brittany and his son, Blake all of Hays; his daughter, Lindsay Hart and husband Jamie and their son, Braxton all of Hays; two sisters, Rosie Wanchisen of Denver, Colorado and Joyce Neilsen and husband Jim of Broomfield, Colorado as well as his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,; a brother, Kenny Pflaum and his wife Lori; and a brother-in-law, Tom Wanchisen. Maurice Earl Phelps, 81, was born on the family farm June 4, 1941, at Quinter, KS. He died February 17, 2023, in Colby, KS. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Edith Phelps; siblings, Wrex, James, Kay and Don; and wife Janet. 
One sister, Shirley (Julius) Bohl, of Florida, and several nieces and nephews survive him. 
Maurice graduated from Quinter High School in 1959. He served in the 
United States Army at Fort Lee, VA. He returned to Colby, KS and

Maurice also volunteered with the Colby Fire Department for 
several years. His family’s farming operations was closest to his heart 
as part of the 4th generation of farmer’s in Quinter, KS. During his 
last years, Maurice made his home at Fairview Estates.

 </figure>Maurice Earl Phelps, 81, was born on the family farm June 4, 1941, at Quinter, KS. He died February 17, 2023, in Colby, KS. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Edith Phelps; siblings, Wrex, James, Kay and Don; and wife Janet. 
One sister, Shirley (Julius) Bohl, of Florida, and several nieces and nephews survive him. 
Maurice graduated from Quinter High School in 1959. He served in the 
United States Army at Fort Lee, VA. He returned to Colby, KS and 
developed several businesses. He especially enjoyed operating UPac

Floyd Dennis “Denny” Cornwell, 64, of Luray, Kansas, died on Friday, 
February 17, 2023, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Denny was born on December 06, 1958, in Osborne, Kansas, the son of 
Keith B. and Eleanor R. (Walls) Cornwell.&nbsp; He grew up in rural Luray, 
Kansas on the family farm and graduated from Lucas-Luray High School in 
the class of 1978.&nbsp; He lived in the Luray area all his life and worked 
as a farm laborer on a local farm and also worked for many years at 
Heartland Hay.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of the Luray United Methodist 
Church.&nbsp; He was an active member in the Russell Muzzle Loaders and Luray
 Fire Department.&nbsp; He loved to hunt, trap, fish, cut firewood and 
enjoyed cutting and carving limestone stone posts.&nbsp; Most of all he 
enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed hanging out
 with his many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Surviving family include his sister Linda Dolton and husband Joe of 
Luray, Kansas;&nbsp; nieces Amy Leiker and husband Marc and Sara Eckinger and
 husband Brett and nephew Benjamin Dolton and wife Rebecca.&nbsp; He was 
preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service to celebrate Floyd’s life will be held at 11 A.M.
 on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the Osborne City Cemetery in Osborne,
 Kansas.&nbsp; There will be no public viewing before the service.&nbsp; 
Immediately following the graveside service, the family would like to 
invite family and friends in the community to a luncheon at the Luray 
United Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. to 2:30 
P.M.. The family will enjoy food and fellowship and share stories with 
those who attend.&nbsp; 

Memorials may be given to the Luray Fire Department 
and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of 
Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Floyd Dennis 'Denny' Cornwell

Kay Lyn Dumler Dinkel, 67, passed away Wednesday February 15,&nbsp;2023, at her home in rural Russell, Kansas, surrounded by her family.&nbsp;

Kay was born March 12, 1955, in Russell to Carl A Dumler and Florence E (Keil) Dumler. She lived her entire life in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1973. She married her forever best friend and love, Bryan on August 10, 1974. They were very proud parents of Brent and Todd. They were the absolute pride and joy of their lives. Kay and Bryan were involved in all of the activities that the boys took part in, and Kay often said that those boys, now young men, fathers and husbands, were the greatest and proudest accomplishment of her life.&nbsp;

This union also brought them four wonderful grandchildren: Braden, Jordyn, Brooklynn and Preston Dinkel. Kay cherished and loved being a grandmother, because she never really had the opportunity to have grandparents in her life, as they passed when she was very young. So, she tried her best to make the most of being a grandmother and being involved in their lives as well.

In her spare time, Kay served as a Den mother for local Cub Scout groups, was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church Altar Guild and taught Sunday School. She also served as a County Board Member for the Russell Regional Hospital, and on the Kansas Center for Assisted Living (KCAL) Board.&nbsp;

Kay was actively involved in the Healthcare industry in and around Russell for over 40 years. She earned her Associates Degree in Health Information Technology in 2001 from Hutchinson Community College, and her Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management and Leadership in 2004 from Friends University. She loved her healthcare colleagues, and especially the patients and residents who touched her life. She always tried her best to be a good friend, co-worker, family member and citizen.

Kay loved her farm and animals, raising oak trees, and was happiest and complete when she and Bryan built their new home on the farm in 2021. They worked side by side together to make it a loving family home.

Kay is survived by her husband Bryan Dinkel of the home; son Brent Dinkel wife Stacy, and children Braden and Jordyn of Manhattan, KS; and son Todd Dinkel wife Andrea, and children Brooklynn and Preston of Hays, KS. Her surviving family also includes sisters Jean Naegele, Rita Forsyth, Jody Myers and brother Carl Dumler Jr.

Celebration of Kay’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, 24, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; 

Memorials have been established with&nbsp; Dreiling Schmidt Cancer Institute or Amazing Grace Home Care.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
