Anna
 Lou (Heth) Brown, age 99 and four months, left this earth for her 
Heavenly Home from Gove County Medical Center’s Long Term Care Unit, 
Quinter, KS on April 20, 2023.&nbsp; She had lived in the Independent Living 
Facility the past 5 ½ years in Quinter, moving there from her home in 
Mullinville, Kansas.&nbsp; She and her husband taught school and resided 
there together from 1955 until his death the summer following their 70th&nbsp;wedding anniversary in Jan. of 2014.

Born on Dec. 13, 1923, Anna’s education was fast tracked as she began 1st&nbsp;grade at age 5 and was moved up to 2nd&nbsp;grade
 after 1 week.&nbsp; She had learned all the first-grade material the year 
before going through her older brother’s papers!&nbsp; Anna was a 16-year-old
 graduate of Williamsburg High School in 1940, going on to attend 
Emporia State University, majoring in business with a minor in English. 
While at college she worked as a secretary in offices on campus and in a
 local attorney’s office.

Anna
 married Lt. Ralph Brown on Jan. 22, 1944, in Florida where he was 
stationed and then Mississippi before he was sent overseas to the 
European Theater. She went back to college in the fall of 1944 intending
 to complete her bachelor’s degree that semester but ended up teaching 
business courses instead on a provisional certificate back in 
Williamsburg when a teacher failed to appear for the year.&nbsp; Ralph was 
discharged from the service in the fall of 1945 and they moved to Topeka
 where he attended college and Anne worked for the KS. Bankers Assoc. 
Deciding to complete her degree, Anna commuted to Emporia to finish the 
14 hours needed to graduate in 1947 at the same time as Ralph.&nbsp; They 
both then taught 3 yrs. in Haviland and 1 yr. in Ensign before moving to
 Garden City to begin their family with Anna taking a break from 
teaching.&nbsp; 

Kathy and Dennis were born in Garden City before the move to 
Mullinville in 1955.&nbsp; Alan joined the family in 1957 and once he was in 1st&nbsp;grade
 Anna decided to go back to school at Hays.&nbsp; There she earned a Master’s
 degree in Speech in 1965 which allowed her to work in a special 
education co-op in Kiowa and Comanche counties as an itinerant 
specialist, teaching children with speech language and hearing 
impairments. Anna holds the distinction of having taken 
Speech/Language/Hearing summer workshops in all of the Kansas colleges 
and universities.&nbsp; She retired from teaching in 1985 to travel with her 
husband on several cruises and used their small motor home to become 
winter Texans, making summer trips to the mountains of Colorado plus 
visiting family in several states and do some “kid keeping” of 
grandchildren.&nbsp;

Anna
 enjoyed crafts, gardening, cooking, reading and watching TV.&nbsp; Family 
was very important to her as she recently spent many hours watching the 
uploads on a screen of all her grandchildren, trying to keep track of 
who belonged to who!&nbsp; She was a member of the Mullinville United 
Methodist Church, Quinter United Women in Faith, Delta Kappa Gamma 
Society and NEA.

Survivors
 include three children, Kathy (Ron) Koehn of Quinter, KS, Dennis (Sue) 
Brown of Plattsmouth, NE and Alan (Tamara) Brown of Ingram, TX; eleven 
grandchildren Dean (Chelsey) Koehn, Lynn (Tiffany) Koehn, Renee (James) 
Thomas, Chelsey (Doug) Evans, Dustin (Courtney) Brown, Ryan (Anna) 
Brown, Lauren (Joseph) Chevalier, Tyler Brown, Nolan Brown, Chris Brown 
and Derek Brown; providing her with sixteen great-grandchildren; and one
 great-great-granddaughter.&nbsp; She also has two step-grandsons, Chris 
Briggs of Courtland, NE and Jamie (Trisha) Briggs of Lincoln, NE., and 
five step-great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She
 was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Brown, parents, Irwin Heth 
and Faye Hall and stepfather, Walter Hall, infant sister, Patty Heth and
 brothers, Warren and Gene Heth.

A
 celebration of her life will be held on May 6, 2023, at the Quinter 
United Methodist Church, Quinter, Kansas at 11:00 a.m. Graveside 
services will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in 
Mullinville, Kansas.

The

 Mullinville United Methodist Church both in care of Minnis Mortuary,

Anna Lou Brown

James “Jim” Collins Weems, died May 22, 2023, at Trinity Manor in Dodge City, Kansas.

He was born on February 7, 1951, the son of John Wylie Sr. and Thelma (Robertson) Weems in Memphis, Tennessee.

Jim
 was proud to be an Air Force brat who lived in many places including 
Tennessee, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Japan. He 
graduated from Ardmore High School, Ardmore, Oklahoma. Eventually he 
earned his Commercial Driver’s License and loved to drive a rig over the
 road for many years. He retired from Kindsvater Trucking in Dodge City.
 Jim found joy as a volunteer of Kairos Prison Ministry for several 
years while living in Enid, Oklahoma.

He
 is survived by his 2 sons, Jim Weems, Hoxie, Kansas and Steve Owens, 
Indiana; 3 daughters, Misti McCreary, Ft. Worth, Texas, Delana 
Whisenhunt, Dodge City, Kansas and Kristen Tinoco, Garland, Texas; 3 
brothers, John Wylie Weems Jr., Florida, Lee Weems, Texas, and Steve 
Weems, Oklahoma; and one sister, Sharon Erikson, Missouri; and several 
grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Weems of 33 years and his father, John Weems, Sr.

Graveside
 services will be at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery, Woodward, 
Oklahoma where he will be inurned next to his beloved wife, Sandra. 
There will be no public viewing, as cremation has taken place.

The family suggests memorials to Tunnel to Towers Foundation in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.

Darla Ann Boyd, 69, of Oakley, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at the 
Sheridan County Hospital, in Hoxie, KS. She was born in Leoti, KS, on 
August 1, 1953, to James Alvin and Viola (Schwindt) Moore. She attended 
school in Leoti and Winona, KS before graduating high school from 
Phoenix, AZ. Darla married Eddie Boyd, in Oakley, KS, on July 21, 1973. 
Darla was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jack Fitzgerald, 
Frank Fitzgerald, and Wayne Fitzgerald; sister Marilyn Alley and 
grandson Adam Kuhlman. 
She is survived by her husband Eddie; daughters, April (Tony) Kuhlman, 
of Monument, KS, Amy (Dustin) Klein, of Hays, KS and Amber (Lukas) 
Wolak, of Goodland, KS; 13 grandchildren, Andrea, Jamie, Craig, Levi, 
Seth and Zach Kuhlman, Abbey, Katherine and Andy Klein, Makayla, 
Benjamin, Noah, and Owen Wolak; brother LD (Donna) Fitzgerald and two 
sisters-in-law, Hellen Fitzgerald and Janie Fitzgerald. 
A graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 26,

Darla Ann Boyd (Moore)

Carolee “LaVada” (Stillwell, White) Campbell was born on October 12, 
1931, in Laton, Kansas, to Grover Stillwell and Luella McCall Stillwell. 
She died April 21, 2023, at Prairie Senior Living Center in Colby, 
Kansas. She graduated from Sheridan Community High School in 1949. She 
married Herbert Woodrow White on January 31st, 1950. They had seven 
children. They lived in multiple places including Hoxie, Menlo and 
Rexford before settling in Colby in 1960. They divorced in 1963. 

LaVada 
worked as a waitress in several restaurants in Colby including The Chief
 and Murphy’s Cafe. While working at Murphy’s, she met Harry “Bob” 
Campbell, and they married in February of 1968. She began working at 
Colby Community College in August of 1968 in Food Service. In August of 
1975, they had a daughter Tracy and she stayed home for two years. She 
then returned to work at the college until she retired in 1993. 
In her younger years she enjoyed camping and fishing. Attending plays 
and musicals that were performed locally was a great source of 
entertainment. Her trip to New York City with her two daughters to see 
some Broadway musicals was one of her favorite trips. She was an awesome
 cook at work and at home. Well known for her fried chicken, homemade 
noodles and homemade bread. She always made everyone’s favorite food and
 dessert for their birthdays. Every family holiday was held at her house
 and homemade potato and oyster soup as well as her Christmas sugar 
cookies and no bake cookies were always a favorite.

Doing puzzles was 
also another pastime as a puzzle was always in progress at her house. 
She was an avid reader. She later got into many different types of 
crafting and making quilts. Everyone got a set of embroidered tea towels
 for wedding gifts. She collected beanie babies and McDonald toys 
resulting in a huge collection at the time of her death. Whenever we 
needed a quick bite to eat, we had to go to McDonalds so she could get a
 Happy Meals for the toy to add to her collection. She enjoyed studying 
and doing extensive research on the genealogy of the Stillwell, White 
and Campbell families. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Lavern LaRue, 
Maxine Hoey and Maurice Stillwell, her infant daughter Luella, her 
husband Bob, son Jerry White, grandson Adam Goalden and great grandson 
Bryce Colgan. 
She is survived by her children Linda and Wes Rummel of Goodland, John 
and Dona White of Colby, Grant and Rhonda White of Colby, Debbie and 
Bill Messamore of Wichita, Karen Harper of Holdrege NE, and Tracy 
Campbell of Colby, 16 grandchildren 34 great grandchildren and many 
extended family members. 
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 
Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral services will be held on Thursday 
April 27, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Baalmann Mortuary Colby, with burial at 
Beulah Cemetery. Immediately after the family will meet at The Gathering
 Place to provide time to visit with extended family and friends.

Carolee LaVada Campbell (Stillwell)

Jean Louise Dilcher, 49, passed away on April 23, 2023, in Oberlin, 
KS.  She was born on June 25, 1973, in Batavia, NY to Richard and Pamela 
(Horine) Dilcher.

Jeannie grew up in Batavia, NY.  As a young girl
 she loved to talk on the phone and play with her dog and 2 cats.  As an
 adult she really loved to fish and had a couple of good spots at Norton
 Lake.  She enjoyed being out in nature and watching all the animals.  
She also had a huge heart and would help anyone who needed it.  In her 
spare time, she loved to read.

Jeannie is survived by her mother: 
Pamela Dilcher; sister: Tammie (William) Ribbeck of New York; niece: 
Katie Ribbeck of New York and many cousins all of New York.  She was 
preceded by her father: Richard Dilcher, grandparents, aunts, and 
uncles.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023,&nbsp; at Pauls Funeral Home at 10:30AM.  There will be a reception 
immediately following the service at Faith Lutheran Church.

Jean Louise Dilcher

Dale Norman Schulze, 74, of Norton, KS passed away April 20, 2023. He
 was born January 11, 1949, in Norton, KS to Leo C. and Alma E. (Wudtke) 
Schulze.

Dale grew up in Norton and graduated 8th grade from 
Farview Country School and was a 1967 Norton Community High School 
graduate. On August 10, 1969, in Norton, Dale married Rosalie L. Adrian. 
After high school, he helped father-in-law at the West Sale Barn. He

loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

 was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Alma; wife, Rosalie and 
brothers, Dennis and Lonnie Schulze. He is survived by his sons: Brian 
Schulze of Norton and Brandon (Teresa) Schulze of Norton; daughter, 
Carey (Brian) Steinhauer of Sutton, NE; sister, Donna Molzahn of Agra, 
KS; brother-in-law, Gary Adrian of Colby; grandchildren: Adrian Follum, 
Tymerie and Shane Steinhauer, and Kadon Schulze and many nieces, 
nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 
10:30 am Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will 
follow at the Norton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm 
Tuesday, April 25, 2023, also at the funeral home.

Kan.. She was born October 9, 1964, in Wichita, Kan., to Conrad &amp; 
Wanda (Vickery) Richey. She married William VanWinkle April 24, 1999, in
 Wichita, Kan.&nbsp;

Shelly
 moved to Newton in 2016, from Great Bend, Kan. She was the scale master
 for the Barton County Landfill then Harvey County Landfill. Shelly had 
many other certifications as well, like her CDL. She loved getting her 
nails done and attending family get togethers.

Survivors
 include, her husband, William “Kent” VanWinkle of the home; two sons, 
Kevin Richey and wife, Sarah of Wichita, Kan., and Nicholas Thomas of 
Mount Pleasant, Iowa; stepdaughter, Darline VanWinkle of Springfield, 
Mo.; four grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Konnor Richey, Ivy Peterson, and 
Arianna Jackson; two brothers, Kenny Richey and wife, Janet and Brian 
Richey and wife, Chris, all of Wichita, Kan.; and three sisters, Evelyn 
Cheek and husband, Bill, Linda Diggs and husband, Bill, and Connie Wiss,
 all of Wichita, Kan.

She
 was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Thomas; stepdaughter, Shawnda 
VanWinkle; her parents; two brothers, Gerald and Darrell Richey; and a 
brother-in-law, Doug Wiss.

 will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 
Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00

Shelly Lynn VanWinkle

It is with very heavy hearts, that we share the loss of Gene Leon 
Theleman. Our Lord called him home on April 21, 2023, doing what he 
loved. Born to Fred and Leona Theleman of Natoma, KS, on August 29, 
1955, in Hays, Kansas, Gene remained a resident of Natoma throughout his
 life. He attended and graduated from Natoma High School in 1973.  Gene 
met his wife Luanne in Hays, Kansas, and soon married in 1976. They were
 blessed with three boys in 1984, 1987, and 1989. Gene was a believer in
 Christ and joined the Catholic Church.

Gene 
began farming at the young age of fourteen and continued in his 
profession for fifty-three years until his untimely death. Gene and 
Luanne, in conjunction with their sons, founded Triple T Trenching in 
2001 to help their sons earn their way through college.

Deeply
 involved in his community, Gene was a prior school board and Lion’s 
Club member, and a deputy of Natoma, (Who would have thought it?). Gene 
was a friend to many and a neighbor to all.

Gene
 was often a man of few words. Yet, he made a lasting impact on this 
world. One would be hard pressed to find a man who better embodies the 
words: determined, self-taught, self-made, and reliable. Gene also 
defined what a hard-working man truly is and drew admiration from all 
who knew him. He was headstrong but also very loving. At family 
gatherings, he was often seen with one of his five grandchildren in his 
arms, tickling, smiling, and exhibiting the tender warmth of a loving 
grandfather. Most importantly, he built a beautiful family that he cared
 for deeply and protected fervently. His impact will last beyond his 
years on earth in the form of his three amazing sons who have learned 
from his example what it means to be a good man, husband, and father.

Gene
 is survived by wife, Luanne of 46 years; son Brian and granddaughter 
Cassidy; son Clayton and daughter-in-law Melissa Noel, grandchildren 
Noah and Ava; son Justin and daughter-in-law Melissa Elise, 
grandchildren Colette and Preston; sister Susie and husband John Price, 
and brothers Larry and Darrell. He was preceded in death by his parents,
 sister Lois, and brother-in-law Duan Talley. All of these he loved and 
touched deeply.

the life of Gene Theleman at 10:00 AM, April 27, 2023, at the Funeral 
Mass at Sacred Heart Plainville Church.  Visitation will be held 2:00 -

Patricia “Patty” Ann Borchert, 70, passed away on Friday, April 21, 
2023, surrounded by her loved ones at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center,
 Hutchinson, KS. She was born November 22, 1952, in Ness City, KS to Glen
 and Gertrude (Werner) Cavenah.

Patty attended McPherson High 
School and graduated in 1971. In 1976, she married Russell D. Borchert. 
They had two children, Adria and Brian. Patty and Russell later 
divorced. She is a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church in Hutchinson. 
She enjoyed spending her time outside, whether it was to garden, swim, 
or work on her tan. Patty also loved to spend time with her family, and 
especially her grandchildren. Patty loved taking care of young children 
and spent many years working at the Hutchinson Children’s Emergency 
Center. She also spent many years working for Hutchinson Hospital and 
Home Instead Senior Care.

Patty is preceded by her parents; three 
brothers, Kenneth, Larry, and David Cavenah; and two sisters, Ramona 
Kincaid and Juanita Cavenah.

She is survived by her daughter, 
Adria Jackson and her husband, William; son, Brian Borchert; siblings, 
Charles, Dennis, and Collette Cavenah; her three grandchildren, Jillian 
Tobin, and Jacob and Rhys Jackson; and multiple nieces, nephews, great 
nieces, and great nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, 
April 27, 2023, from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 
E. 30th Ave, with a rosary to follow at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 
E. 5th Ave, at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, April

Patricia 'Patty' Ann Borchert

The Lord took Lynette Kay Clements home on Saturday, April 15, 2023, 
at Elk Ridge Health and Rehab with family by her side. She was 84 years 
old.

Lynette was born March 18, 1939, in Quinter, Kansas, to Fred Rufus Barrett and Velma Vivian Blackwell.

She lived in Quinter until graduating high school and then attended 
Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kansas. She then moved to the eastern 
slope of Colorado, until moving to the western slope in 2007, and 
eventually calling Montrose, Colo., home.

Mom had a wonderful sense of humor, sense of style, and was 
quick-witted with everyone she knew. She brought so much joy into 
everyone’s life. She enjoyed traveling, her dog Pebbles and most of all,
 she adored her family. She was a wonderful Mother, Sister, Grandmother,
 Great Grandmother, and friend.

Mom is survived by daughter Tami (Steve) Hale of Olathe, CO; daughter
 Michelle Nicks of Mead, Co; sister Rhonda (Rod) Fisher of Johnstown, 
Co; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and
 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Vicki 
Clements Carpenter.

She loved her job as a flight attendant for 30 years.&nbsp; Her career 
took her many places and met many people. Her amazing personality made 
her a perfect fit for the job that she loved so much.

She was stunning and beautiful in every way. She walked through life 
with a beautiful smile and huge dimples. With beautiful eyes of green 
and a heart as big as the deep blue sea.

Her body grew tired. The time had come when God sent a heavenly plane
 to pick her up. The Angel put out her hand and said, “It’s time to go, 
you have so many people excited to see you at home.”

She glanced back at her girls and said “this isn’t goodbye, it’s a see you later. I have my wings, now it’s time to go.”

The Angel walked with her to the majestic plane and said “where we 
are going, the gates have pearls and the streets are of gold and there 
is no more pain”

As she boarded her last flight with a smile on her face, she turned 
back to her family to say one more thing. “I love you; you stayed with 
me and held my hand. I felt your kisses and hugs. But it’s Ok, God has 
me now. I will always be with you.”

Lynette Kay Clements

Charmaine L. Morris, 85, Hays, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Logan Manor in Logan.

She was born May 31, 1937, in Honolulu, 
Hawaii, the daughter of Robert and Rose (Hose) Kamai.&nbsp; Charmaine grew up
 in Hawaii and it was there that she met Vernon J. “Vern” Morris Sr., a
 U.S. Marine stationed in Hawaii.&nbsp; Charmaine and Vern were united in 
marriage on July 13, 1957, in Honolulu, and they moved to Hays, Kansas, in
 1958.&nbsp; They were married nearly 65 years before he preceded her in 
death on March 17, 2022.&nbsp; 

Charmaine worked at Travenol and for 
International Mailing.&nbsp; She was a devout Catholic, a loving homemaker, 
and her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, and embroidery.&nbsp; She 
loved flowers and flower gardening, sharing bulbs and plants with family
 and friends, and creating beautiful arrangements with flowers grown in 
her garden.&nbsp; Charmaine enjoyed animals, shopping, traveling, and 
listening to country music.&nbsp; Most of all, she adored her family.

Survivors include her two sons, Vernie

 in Hawaii and it was there that she met Vernon J. “Vern” Morris Sr., a
 U.S. Marine stationed in Hawaii.&nbsp; Charmaine and Vern were united in 
marriage on July 13, 1957, in Honolulu, and they moved to Hays, Kansas, in
 1958.&nbsp; They were married nearly 65 years before he preceded her in 
death on March 17, 2022.&nbsp; Charmaine worked at Travenol and for 
International Mailing.&nbsp; She was a devout Catholic, a loving homemaker, 
and her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, and embroidery.&nbsp; She 
loved flowers and flower gardening, sharing bulbs and plants with family
 and friends, and creating beautiful arrangements with flowers grown in 
her garden.&nbsp; Charmaine enjoyed animals, shopping, traveling, and 
listening to country music.&nbsp; Most of all, she adored her family.Survivors include her two sons, Vernie 
Morris and wife Sue of Logan and Verlon Morris of Spring Hill, three

Charmaine L. (Kamai) Morris

Barbara Ellen (Brown) West, of Plainville, Kansas, entered into 
her heavenly home on April 20, 2023,  at the age of 73 after a 
courageous fight with pancreatic cancer.

She was born 
on December 27, 1949, in Natoma, Kansas, to Kenneth and Viola (Baum) 
Brown. She graduated from Plainville High School in 1968. After 
graduation, Barb went to beauty school in Salina, Kansas, and this was 
also where she met the love of her life, Larry.

Barb 
and Larry were united in marriage on July 2, 1971 in Plainville, Kansas,&nbsp; and were inseparable for the next 52 years. They were blessed with three
 children; a boy, Travis, who died 5 days after birth, and two 
daughters, Jenny and Jaymme. Barb was a secretary for many years for her
 husbands welding service as well as her parents oil business, Kenny 
Brown Enterprises. Later on, she worked as a receptionist and was known 
as "the voice" of Dessin Fournir.

Barb was a beautiful 
and sweet soul and a woman of faith. Her family was her pride and joy 
and everything she did revolved around them. Whether it was playing 
cards with them, making food for them, or traveling for her grandkids’ 
sporting events every weekend. She was the best wife, Mama, Grandma, 
teacher, and biggest supporter of all. Barb loved to be outdoors and 
spent many years outside planting flowers and going fishing. She was an 
excellent fisherwoman, even known to out-fish Larry. Barb also had a 
knack for crafting, making wreaths, and crocheting blankets to name just
 a few more things that she loved and truly did well.

Barb
 is survived by her husband, Larry of Plainville; daughters, Jennifer 
Lynne Plante, Plainville, Jaymme Marie (Grant) Arnold,  McPherson; Five 
grandchildren; Chelsey West, Hays, Taylor Meitler, Bonner Springs, Jared
 Plante (Marissa Befort), Plainville, Justin Plante (Emma Humphrey), 
Plainville, Dawson Arnold, Manhattan.  Three brothers; Kenny (Rhonda)

Barbara 'Barb' Ellen West

Donald E. “Velvet” Deines was born July 26, 1936, in Hays, Kansas to Adam and Miriam Deines. “Velvet” passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 20th, 2023 at the age of 86 years. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church south of WaKeeney, KS. He spent his formative years helping on the family farm. He graduated from Trego Community High School in 1955. He served his country in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. He married Marjorie Coleman on October 24, 1959. They moved to Beatrice, NE in 1964. 

“Velvet” was a grocer and former owner of Grant Street Grocery.  Following the sale of Grant Street, he was employed by Beatrice Super Market, Encore MFG and Deines Pharmacy. “Velvet” was a people lover, a fun lover and loved to be around his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.  He especially loved spending time at the family home at Lake of the Ozarks.  

He is survived by his wife Marjorie; his sons, Mitch (Colleen) Deines of Beatrice, NE; Scott (Geri Ann) Deines of Fremont, NE and his daughter Jill (Kelly) Hedlund of Hays, KS.;  Grandchildren: Jonathan (Danielle) Deines, Beatrice, NE; Jessica (Devon) Wegner, Lincoln, NE; Benjamin (Natalie) Deines, Bennington, NE; Blake Deines, Lincoln, NE and Conner Deines, Lincoln, NE; Kelsey (Jared) Wasinger, Manhattan, KS and Kyle (Marina) Hedlund, Gretna, NE.; Great Grandchildren: Mia, Leo, Collins, Merritt, Dallas, Reid, Larson, Scarlett, Jetson, Jaxton &amp; Kinsley; sisters, Rosetta Jamison, Russell, KS; Gladys Feist, Great Bend, KS; Sister-in-Law, Nancy Tomanek, WaKeeney, KS as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

The service may also be viewed at www.ghchapel.com. Burial with military honors by Nebraska Army National Guard and the Legion Riders will follow at Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. The body will lie in state Monday from 11:00-8:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30, and in state at the church on Tuesday one hour preceding the service. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 AM Tuesday at the church.

Lawrence W. Ehrlich, 96, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, April
 19, 2023, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell, Kansas.

Lawrence was born on July 17, 1926, in Russell, Kansas, the son of 
Gotfred and Ida C. (Strecker) Ehrlich.&nbsp; He grew up in Russell and 
attended Russell schools. He joined the United States Army during the 
Korean war and was inducted in October 1944.&nbsp; 

After serving his country,
 he met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Victoria B. 
Michaelis on November 16, 1947, in Russell, Kansas, at the St. John 
Lutheran Church.&nbsp; From this union Lawrence and Victoria were blessed 
with two sons Tim and Thomas.&nbsp; 

He worked as a salesman for Shannon’s 
appliance for 20 years and also worked for the city and county of 
Russell.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of the St. John Lutheran Church in 
Russell.&nbsp; He was a member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #624 and the 
Russell American Legion Post #99.&nbsp; He loved dancing polka with his wife 
and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving family include his two sons Tim R. Ehrlich of Clearwater, 
Kansas and Thomas J. Ehrlich of Hutchinson, Kansas; 2 grandchildren and 3
 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Victoria on September 22, 2005, and his brother Alvin Ehrlich.

A private burial has taken place at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; 
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the 
funeral service arrangements.

Earl Ray “Benny” Benedick, Plainville, KS, passed away on April 
19, 2023, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, at the age of
 72. He was born on July 21, 1950, to Earl P. and Emma I. (Hrabe) 
Benedick at the Harwood Home in Stockton, KS. He married Janice K. 
Schmidt on March 14, 1970, in Plainville. They were blessed with four 
children: Phillip, Lori, Wayne and Andrew.

Benny grew 
up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School with the 
Class of 1968. He began working at a young age and as an adult worked at
 Dugan Oil, Schulte Mobile Homes, Northwestern Supply, JB Oil Company, 
and he worked with his father-in-law for several years after purchasing 
the business he owned and operated for over 40 years, Bennie’s Tank 
Service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Plainville Rescue 
Squad, and Plainville Fire Department.

Benny enjoyed 
gardening, fishing, golfing, coffee with the guys at Short Stop, running
 the football scoreboard, and square dancing. But mostly, he loved 
spending time with his family and friends. While he was a hard worker, 
he also knew how to enjoy life along the way. We all have so many 
memories, stories, and wonderful times with him. Those are the things 
that we will cherish forever.

Benny is survived by his 
wife, Janice of the home; children: Phillip (Francie) Benedick, 
Plainville, Lori Benedick (Casey Lee Sharp), Natoma, Wayne Benedick 
(Misty Record), Plainville, and Andrew Benedick (Stacy Beiker), 
Plainville; 21 grandkids: Aaron, Caleb (Naomi), Kelsey (Byron Bittel) 
and Kristen Wyatt (Brandon St. Clair), Dalton Benedick, Darion (Tanner 
Mitchell), Ethan (Hannah Rempe), Jillian and Boden Podrybau, Starzyn 
Sharp, Mercedes, Keelea (Taylor Spears), Levi Paul, Dodge and Phoenix 
Benedick, Taryn and Avryn Beiker; and 11 great-grandkids: Kaytlynn 
Butler, Rowen, Brevyn, Haezin, Sarah and Riven Wyatt, Khloe Tweedy, 
Braylon and Chasey Bittel, Kelsie St. Clair and Weston Mitchell.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, and grandson Acetin Benedick.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 
10:30 AM, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will
 follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday,
 2-4:30 PM at the funeral home, and 6-8PM at the church with a Vigil and
 Rosary Service at 7PM.

April 11, 2023 marked the passing of (Shirley) LaVerne Graham.&nbsp; Eldo Graham, her husband of nearly 70 years had passed away the previous year on February 10, 2022.&nbsp; Theirs was a story of love, family &amp; friends.

LaVerne was born July 7, 1931, to Vadis &amp; Lyndell Thomas.&nbsp; She had four sisters; Patricia, Mary Lou, Elouise &amp; Linda.&nbsp; LaVerne grew up on a farm north of Long Island, KS.&nbsp; All of the children worked together with both household &amp; farm chores.&nbsp; At six, LaVerne started school in a one room schoolhouse &amp; later finished school in Long Island.

Eldo was born July 22, 1929, to Elsie &amp; Forest Graham.&nbsp; He had two brothers &amp; two sisters; Darrel, Dolores, Eudora &amp; Leo.&nbsp; Eldo grew up on a farm west of Long Island, KS.&nbsp; As he helped with the farm, he became quite adept at figuring out how to fix most anything.&nbsp; Eldo finished school in Long Island.

Their first date was to the circus &amp; from there, they eventually married.&nbsp; They “tied the knot” on May 3, 1950.&nbsp; They had four children; Patricia, Timothy, Kent &amp; Greg.&nbsp; They were never rich, but were hardworking &amp; frugal.&nbsp; There was always a garden, a well-kept home &amp; yard, &amp; a reliable car.&nbsp; Eldo
 worked long hours operating a gas station for many years while LaVerne 
cooked, cleaned, preserved fruits &amp; vegetables &amp; took care of 
the children, often making &amp; repairing clothes.&nbsp; Later, they bought the grocery store in Almena, KS where they moved in the early 1980s &amp; lived for over 40 years.

They loved each other, their families, their friends &amp; their communities.&nbsp; Eldo was known for his BIG hugs &amp; the Tootsie Rolls he kept in his pocket.&nbsp; LaVerne was known for her wonderful cooking &amp; quiet humor.&nbsp; They will be missed.

Eldo &amp; LaVerne had four children, 12 grandchildren &amp; 19 great grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service for both on Saturday, April 29th, at 10:30 a.m. in the Long Island Cemetery with Pastor Ron Martin officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Shriner’s Hospitals.

Eldo & LaVerne Graham

John Steven “Steve” Petersen Jr., 77, passed away Tuesday, April 18,
 2023, in Hays, KS. He was born July 8, 1945, in Salina, KS to John 
Petersen Sr. and Virginia (Jorgensen) Petersen. Steve married Vicki 
Nelson in WaKeeney, KS on March 30, 1967. He retired as a heavy 
equipment operator for KDOT.

Steve is survived by his wife, Vicki Petersen of Lincoln, KS; son, 
Sean Petersen (Shawn) of Ellsworth, KS; sisters, Carla Petersen of Port 
Charlotte, FL and Wenny Plunkett of Salina, KS; step-grandchildren, 
Mitch Wolf (Tyler) of Kansas City, MO, Cheyenne Hellebust (Kaden) of 
Fairview, TX, Savannah Hellebust of Ellsworth, and Nash Hellebust of 
Ellsworth; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; brother-in-law, 
Richard Nelson (Karen) of Lucas, KS; and sister-in-law, Jan Leach (Tim) 
of Topeka, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and 
brother-in-law, Dennis Nelson.

As most of you know Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman.&nbsp;He 
thoroughly enjoyed his and his family and friends’ time spent at Wilson 
Lake. He would often teach countless kids how to waterski after a 
morning spent fishing.&nbsp;He was always there for anyone who needed help 
and would give the shirt off his back or lend a hand to any task 
necessary.

As one friend put it… “All I can say is if you knew him he will be 
missed. And if you didn’t know him, you have no idea what you missed.”&nbsp;

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Parsons Funeral Home – Hall Chapel, Lincoln.

Funeral service: 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2023, at Parsons

John Steven 'Steve' Petersen Jr.

Betty Ann Byers, 89, passed away on April 19, 2023, at Azria Health 
Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kan. She was born on June 1, 1933, in Sayre, 
Okla., to Sanders and Wynona (Jackson) Titsworth. On September 11, 1953,
 she married Ray Lee Byers in Clayton, N.M. He passed on April 29, 1998.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Betty worked as a cook, most 
recently, for American Legion Argonne Post 180, previously working for 
Shaney’s, Ralph Wallace and V.F.W. Post #3111. She was of the Christian 
faith and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and American Legion 
Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed cooking and cake decorating, crafts, silk 
flower arranging and was a voracious reader.&nbsp; She will also be 
remembered for the love she had for her Boxers.

Survivors include a son, Steven (Karma) Byers of Great Bend, Kan.; 
two daughters, Tresa (Ken) Mayfield of Bennington, Kan. and Lee Ann 
Byers (Bert Esfeld) of Great Bend, Kan.; four grandchildren, Ray Byers, 
Jessica (Spencer) Unruh, Charles (Alexandra) Mayfield, Jamie (Bryant) 
Lovin; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janell Fisher of Branson,
 Mo.; and, Sandra Schneweis of Beaver, Kan. She is preceded in death by 
her husband; a grandson, Ryan Byers; her parents; two brothers, W.C. and
 Vernon Titsworth; two sisters, Clara Titsworth and Virgina Fuqua; and a
 half sister, Laquita Borg.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Graveside 
service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023, at Great Bend
 Cemetery with Pastor Adam Wutka presiding. Memorials have been 
designated to Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral 
Home.

Betty Ann Byers

Connie Christine Wharton, 71, of Clay Center, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023, at her residence.

She was born on November 4, 1951, in La Crosse the daughter of Harold Dean and Mary Jane (Johnson) Dalton.

On June 6, 1971, in Bison, she married Lyle Douglas Wharton.&nbsp; He survives of the home.

Connie worked as a bookkeeper in accounting for department and 
hardware stores.&nbsp; She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Clay 
Center and Job’s Daughters International.&nbsp; She was an avid sewer and 
reader and enjoyed traveling.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her 
grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Staci 
Smith of Houston, Texas and Stephanie Lagerman and husband Todd of 
Riley; two grandchildren, Lily and Logan Lagerman of Riley; two 
brothers, Jerry Dalton and wife Rhonda of Wichita and Robert Dalton and 
wife Mary of Bison, and one sister, Lonnie Call of Arlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Terry Dalton and Jimmy Dalton, and one sister, Norma Giesick.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023,&nbsp; at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson 
officiating.

Memorials may be made to HIKE (Hearing Improvement Kids Endowment 
Fund) and St. Jude Children's Hospital.&nbsp; Contributions may be left in

Connie Wharton

Judy Lynn Morgan, 77, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Judy was born November 3, 1945, in Ellsworth, Kansas, the daughter of
 Everett and Alice (Galliart) Steinle.&nbsp; She was a resident of Rush 
County, Kansas, for 50-plus years.&nbsp; She was a 1963 graduate of Dighton High 
School, Dighton, Kansas, and graduated from Cosmetology School in Hays, 
Kansas, as a cosmetologist.

Judy owned and operated House of Beauty Salon, La Crosse, Kansas, for
 more than 50 years.&nbsp; She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, and
 a former member of the Lions Club, both of La Crosse, Kansas.

Judy loved attending as many of her grandchildren’s sporting events 
as she could.&nbsp; She had a passion for bowling, and enjoyed participating 
in the church bible study group.

She married Lonnie Morgan. To this union, two sons were born, Steven and Heath.&nbsp; Judy and Lonnie later divorced.

Survivors include:&nbsp; two sons, Steven Morgan (Jolene), La Crosse, 
Kansas, Heath Morgan (Michelle), La Crosse, Kansas; three grandchildren,
 Taylor Morgan (Zach Stejskal), Hunter Morgan, and Madison Morgan; two 
brothers, Jay Steinle (Kathy), Bullhead City, Arizona, Kent Borell 
(Carrie), Dighton, Kansas; and one sister, Kay Conrardy, Dodge City, 
Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Steinle; and her mother and step father, Alice and Gene Borell.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 
P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family 
receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Monday, April 24, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 P.M. at the First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Monday, April 24, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at the 
First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Phyllis Burdge 
officiating.

Interment will be Monday, April 24, 2023, at 1:30 P.M. in the Dorrance City Cemetery, Dorrance, Kansas.
