Donnie May Verhoeff, 83, of Collinsville, Okla., (formerly of Grinnell) passed away on April 26, 2023, in Tulsa, Okla., at St. John Medical Center after suffering a massive stroke. She was born on June 12, 1939, in Sallisaw, Okla. Her parents were Paul and Opal Regagnon. She had two brothers: Thomas Henry and Daniel Regagnon and three sisters: Peggy Doris (Peg) Hart, Paulette (Polly) Hettinger and Diana (Pooch) Beckley. While in high school in Hays, she met her soul mate Sherman Verhoeff who was attending Hays Community College. They were married on Nov. 7, 1957, and moved to Grinnell where Sherman’s parents lived. They soon acquired their ranch in Grinnell where they farmed and raised Charolais cattle for over 40 years. Donnie and Sherman had two daughters while living in Grinnell, Debbora and Sharon. Both girls grew up on the farm and attended school in Grinnell. Debbora gave them two grandsons and Sharon gave them three grandsons and two granddaughters. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. After many years of farm life, the couple retired to Grove, Okla., where they lived for about 10 years until 2008 when they moved to Collinsville, Okla., to be with Debbora and her son, Jake Allen. Donnie and Debbora opened a beading store in nearby Owasso and were there daily teaching and making beaded jewelry. She was active and living on her own for four years after Sherman's death. Phillipsburg resident Eugene D. Ross passed away April 25, 2023, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 79.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born Jan. 30, 1944, in Rooks County, the son of Dewey and Eula (Sammons) Ross.

Harold John Nye passed away in the early morning of April 26th, 2023. He was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on April 11th, 1941, to Harold John and Dorothy Brown Nye and lived and worked in Kansas for the entire 82 years of his life. 

He completed high school at Leavenworth high school, then attended and graduated with a BA from Pittsburg State University. He later completed his MPA at the University of Kansas. His life work was with the state of Kansas. He retired as warden of the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his son and daughter-in-law, William and Christa Nye and grandson Samuel, as well as his brother, Herb Nye. 

He was preceded by his sister Ruth Bickley as well as his parents.

Graveside services will be held at Mount Muncie Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS in early June. He was a 6th generation Mason and was also a previous chairman of the Kansas Lottery Commission.

Dennis Eugene DeYoung, age 66, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at his home.

Dennis
 was born July 11, 1956, to Stanley Calvin and Betty Jean (Osborn) 
DeYoung in Plainville, Kansas.  He married Diane Elizabeth Geist on 
August 17, 1984, in Hays, Kansas.  She preceded him in death May 2, 2017.

He
 was a self-employed heavy equipment operator in the land field and 
oilfield industry.  In the late '70s and early '80s, he worked for Pan-Am
 Construction in Africa, Liberia and Kenya operating heavy equipment.  
Dennis was a United States Army Veteran, and a member of the American 
Legion.  He enjoyed fishing, watching the OU Sooners, and especially the
 LA Rams.

He is survived by a son, Calvin DeYoung of 
Damar, Kansas; daughter Renee DeYoung, Great Bend, KS; three sisters, 
Terri (John) Richardson, Clairmont, NC; Janice (Dennis) Craven, Wichita,
 KS; and Janet (Mike) Bruna, Plainville, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant daughter, Elizabeth, and nephew, Adam Bruna.

Weber, 66, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, April 24, 2023.&nbsp; Steven was born September 28, 1956, in Hays, KS to Lawrence J. and Betina (Kinderknect) Weber.&nbsp; He graduated from Great Bend High School and was a property manager in the Hutchinson area.&nbsp; He married Terri L. Ediger in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Steven enjoyed the outdoors and spent is free time hunting, fishing and golfing.&nbsp; &nbsp;He had been the president of the Central Kansas Landlord Association. Steven
 is survived by his mother, Betina; wife, Terri; six children, Scott 
(Megan Weber, Kenton Weber, Kyle (Nicole) Weber, Jessica (Mike) Carroll,
 Sara Daugherty and Sierra (Ben) Beckman; six grandchildren; three

M. Andrew “Andy” Phillips, 56, passed away from cancer on December 13, 2022, at home in Denver, Colorado.

Andy was born February 4, 1966, in Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; He 
graduated from Goodland High School in 1984 and graduated from Northwest
 Kansas Vocational Technical College in 1986.&nbsp;

On July 13, 1985, he and Jennifer McKnight were married.&nbsp; They moved 
to Denver in 1986 where he worked for Carroll &amp; Lange until the 
owners retired. He worked for Manhart for a short time before joining 
and finding a home with the Redland.&nbsp; He was an active member and leader
 of the Denver area Scouting community.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Andy is survived by his daughter Gessica Phillips and grandson Nosyah
 Phillips, his son Mathew (Maria) Phillips, Mother Peggy Phillips, and 
sister Amanda (Chris) Ross.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jennifer (McKnight) Phillips, 
father Martin Phillips, grandparents Paul &amp; Grace Phillips, and

Grace Nadine (Tuttle) Schlegel, age 85, passed away April 24, 2023, at the Cedar Village Care Center in Ness City, KS.&nbsp; Grace was born September 6, 1937, in Rozel, KS, to Louis and Lucy Jane (Countryman) Tuttle.&nbsp; As a young child, Grace grew up on the family farm across the drive from her grandmother, Ada Tuttle.&nbsp; 

Many happy memories were made spending one on one time with her grandma and playing with cousins when they came to visit.&nbsp; Grace
 attended school in Rozel until her parents bought a small farm in 
Hodgeman County, east of Jetmore, where her brother Harry was born. 
Grace graduated from Jetmore High School and attended Fort Hays State 
University.&nbsp; She and Wesley “Pete” Schlegel were married on February 12, 1956, in Jetmore, KS.&nbsp; Pete often told the story of how he picked his wife up when she was walking the streets in Jetmore.&nbsp; To this union three daughters were born, Jan, Pat and Jo.&nbsp; The girls were raised on the family farm southwest of Ness City.&nbsp; Pete passed away on Christmas Day, 2014.&nbsp; 

Grace had a strong faith that defined who she was, and she passed that faith on to her family.&nbsp; She was a member of the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; She was involved in United Methodist Women at the local and district levels.&nbsp; She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and attended Bible Study Groups.&nbsp; Grace looked forward to the days when she worked at the United Methodist Thrift Store.&nbsp; She enjoyed working with the other volunteers and meeting the customers that came in the store.&nbsp; Grace’s
 family is very grateful to those who recognized she was failing, but 
continued to have patience with her, helping her to stay involved with 
the Thrift Store for as long as she did.

First a homemaker, but never one to sit idle, Grace kept busy with other organizations as well.&nbsp; As a member of the Tri-Circle Jaynes Extension Unit, she held various offices and was involved with many projects.&nbsp; When the unit chose to disband, the ladies continued to meet monthly to sew lap blankets for residents of Cedar Village.&nbsp; Grace was presented with one of the blankets that she had helped sew, when she moved to Cedar Village.

Grace was an accomplished seamstress.&nbsp; She
 was always up for a challenging project and made countless wedding 
dresses, bridesmaid dresses, cheerleading uniforms, men’s suit coats and
 anything else that might be asked of her.&nbsp; Her daughters were blessed to each have a one of a kind wedding dress, made with love.&nbsp; Grace
 made sure that each of her daughters, grandkids and many nieces and 
nephews learned the basics of sewing. Many times the house on the farm 
would be full of girls and sewing machines.&nbsp; Grace, the 4-H sewing leader, would move from one girl to the next instilling in them her knowledge and love for sewing.&nbsp; She
 enjoyed getting to know each “student” and they would finish off a 
sewing session with her freshly baked chocolate chip cookies or Kingla.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, her younger brother Harry and her son-in-law Jake Rider.&nbsp; Survivors
 include Jan Rider, Jo (Neil) Pfannenstiel, Ness City, Pat Schlegel 
(A.J. Bosco), New York City; seven grandchildren, Tyler (Becky) Rider, 
Tanner (Stephanie) Rider, Trevor (Amber) Pfannenstiel, Brodie (Samantha)
 Pfannenstiel, Kendra Pfannenstiel, Anna Bosco and Chiara Bosco; and 
twelve great grandchildren.

While Grace was small in stature, her presence and personality were not.&nbsp; She was devoted to God, her faith and her family.&nbsp; She always did what she could for her family and friends.&nbsp; She truly was “Amazing Grace."

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 8, 
2023, at the United Methodist Church in Ness City at 11:00 a.m. 
Contributions may be given to the United Methodist Church, Alzheimer's 
Research and Prevention Foundation, or Cedar Village.

the Thrift Store for as long as she did.First a homemaker, but never one to sit idle, Grace kept busy with other organizations as well.&nbsp; As a member of the Tri-Circle Jaynes Extension Unit, she held various offices and was involved with many projects.&nbsp; When the unit chose to disband, the ladies continued to meet monthly to sew lap blankets for residents of Cedar Village.&nbsp; Grace was presented with one of the blankets that she had helped sew, when she moved to Cedar Village.Grace was an accomplished seamstress.&nbsp; She
 was always up for a challenging project and made countless wedding 
dresses, bridesmaid dresses, cheerleading uniforms, men’s suit coats and
 anything else that might be asked of her.&nbsp; Her daughters were blessed to each have a one of a kind wedding dress, made with love.&nbsp; Grace
 made sure that each of her daughters, grandkids and many nieces and 
nephews learned the basics of sewing. Many times the house on the farm 
would be full of girls and sewing machines.&nbsp; Grace, the 4-H sewing leader, would move from one girl to the next instilling in them her knowledge and love for sewing.&nbsp; She
 enjoyed getting to know each “student” and they would finish off a 
sewing session with her freshly baked chocolate chip cookies or Kingla.Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, her younger brother Harry and her son-in-law Jake Rider.&nbsp; Survivors
 include Jan Rider, Jo (Neil) Pfannenstiel, Ness City, Pat Schlegel 
(A.J. Bosco), New York City; seven grandchildren, Tyler (Becky) Rider, 
Tanner (Stephanie) Rider, Trevor (Amber) Pfannenstiel, Brodie (Samantha)
 Pfannenstiel, Kendra Pfannenstiel, Anna Bosco and Chiara Bosco; and 
twelve great grandchildren.While Grace was small in stature, her presence and personality were not.&nbsp; She was devoted to God, her faith and her family.&nbsp; She always did what she could for her family and friends.&nbsp; She truly was “Amazing Grace."A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 8, 
2023, at the United Methodist Church in Ness City at 11:00 a.m.

Janet Marie (Weber) Ziegler, age 60, died on April 25, 2023, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Jan. 6, 1963, at Hays, daughter of Joseph and Evelyn (Wittman) Weber.

Janet met Ron Ziegler on a blind date in Colby, KS. They both worked at the nursing home there. On July 1, 1993, they married in Ellis, KS – moved to WaKeeney in 1995. Janet was a very sweet wife &amp; friend to all who knew her. She worked at many places; from Ellis nursing home, to her last job at Western Kansas World in WaKeeney.

Janet &amp; Ron were married 30 years. Since they were never blessed with children, they filled their home with fur babies – Odie, Murry, &amp; Louie.

Janet is survived by her husband Ron of WaKeeney, brothers Bob (Shirley) of Colby &amp; Harry (Rita) of Hays, father-in-law Louie, sister-in-law Terri, and brother-in-law Don, all of Collyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Jerry, one sister Norma Jean, and mother-in-law Margaret.

Catherine was born April 2, 1927, in 
Greeley, Kansas, the daughter of Toney and Stella (Baker) Miller.&nbsp; She 
graduated from Greeley High School in 1945.&nbsp; On April 19, 1950, 
Catherine was united in marriage to Ralph Taxter in Greeley, and they 
shared 72 years of marriage.&nbsp; Together they were loving and supportive 
parents of two sons: Mike and David Taxter.&nbsp; Catherine loved gardening, 
working on the lawn, and was an avid fan of Kansas Jayhawks basketball 
and the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.

Survivors include her two sons: Mike 
Taxter and wife Marlene and David Taxter, two grandchildren: Shawn 
Taxter and wife Mary and Kelley Pulis and husband Jeremy, and four great
 grandchildren: Ashley, Michael, Brady, and Brooklynn.

She was preceded in death by her 
husband Ralph, grandparents: Anthony and Theresa Miller, Morris and

Carl Tobias&nbsp;“CT”&nbsp;Radke, 87, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday,&nbsp;April 25, 2023, at the Wheatland&nbsp;Nursing Home in Russell.

Carl was born in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Tobias and Amelia (Bitter) Radke. &nbsp;He grew up in Milberger, Kansas, and graduated&nbsp;from Russell High School in 1954. &nbsp;After&nbsp;high school, he joined the United&nbsp;States&nbsp;Navy serving on the USS&nbsp;Battleship&nbsp;Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;After serving his country, he met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Margaret JoAnn Boele on December 26, 1971. &nbsp;From this union Carl and Margaret&nbsp;were blessed with&nbsp;two children, son Michael and daughter Pam. 

Carl worked with Radke Implement in Milberger from 1955 to 1965.&nbsp;&nbsp;Later, he&nbsp;worked as owner and operator of his own contract pumper business&nbsp;and also worked&nbsp;as a farmer and rancher. &nbsp;He was a&nbsp;longtime member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger&nbsp;and was on the church council. &nbsp;He was also a member of&nbsp;the Russell&nbsp;V.F.W. Post&nbsp;#6240&nbsp;and manager of the rural water district&nbsp;#3. &nbsp;He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, camping and singing in the church choir. &nbsp;Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving family include his son Michael Radke and wife Jodi of Russell, Kansas and daughter Pam Rowell of Milberger, Kansas; brother Vernon Radke of Russell, Kansas; sisters Norma Koehler of Kansas City, Missouri, and Rosalinda&nbsp;Addington and husband Dale of Topeka, Kansas; 4 grandchildren&nbsp;James Rowell, Kasey Radke, Michaela Suchy and&nbsp;husband&nbsp;Kelton and Jonae Radkeand great granddaughter&nbsp;Layla Suchy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret on January 04, 2010 and sister Doris Steinert.

A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at&nbsp;10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;Burial will follow at the Milberger Cemetery in Milberger, Kansas. &nbsp;Military honors will be presented by the Russell V.F.W. Hays, KS resident, Carolyn L. States, age 76, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at her home.

She was born January 14, 1947, in Quinter, KS the daughter of Henry and Dorothy (Lerew) Duncan.

Carolyn was united in marriage to Alan E. States on September 1, 1966, in Logan, KS.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include sons David of Colby and 
Ryan of Hays; a daughter Sarrah Schneider and husband Scott of Hays; 
brothers Jon Duncan and wife Gretchen of Eugene, OR, and Jan Duncan and 
wife J.C. of Florence, AZ; and 5 grandchildren Savannah and Summer 
Schneider, Ana Bonilla and husband Jaime, and Cora and Donovan States.

Marcella Mae "Sally" (Hoffman) Flax, 88 of Ellis. Kansas passed away April 24, 2023, at Trego County Lemke&nbsp;LTC in Wakeeney.

Sally
 was born on April 17, 1935, in Odin, KS to Michael and Margaret (Feltis) 
Hoffman. She attended Great Bend High School and graduated in 1953. 
Sally met the love of her life, Paul Flax, at her cousin’s wedding. They
 were married on August 24, 1954, in Great Bend. The following August 
they welcomed a son, Jerome, and the following fall, a daughter, Julia. 
Having to move many times with the railroad, Sally and Paul always 
returned to Ellis, calling it home. They were married for 53 years 
before Paul's passing in 2007.

Sally was always ready 
to take a vacation or bus trip with an occasional stop at the casinos. 
Her travels allowed her to see much of the United States and some 
European countries. She enjoyed morning coffee with the ladies, playing 
bingo, bridge or pinochle with family and friends. But one of her 
greatest joys was being with her grandchildren.

She was a member of St Mary's Church and the D of I in Ellis.

She
 is preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; Son, Jerome; sisters
 Mercedes Huslig (Arthur), Anna Koester (Joseph,) Dolores Schneweis 
(Bernard) and Sister Mary Lawrence.

She is survived by a
 daughter Julia Hillman, WaKeeney; six grandchildren, Angela Flax (Geoff
 Martin) Olathe;&nbsp;Dustin Mattheyer (Mara) Ellis; Audrey Bates (Noel)

grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

Melvin Hines, 89, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at Southwind at Spearville.

He was born March 30, 1934, on the family farm north of Spearville, the son of Michael “Joe” and Charlotte S. (Schaffer) Hines.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Spearville High School and a lifetime area farmer.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, 4th Degree member and past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council #1539 and Lions Club all in Spearville.&nbsp; He also served on the Spearville Recreation Committee.&nbsp; He enjoyed skiing and boating at Cedar Bluff, was a licensed pilot and had travel to 48 states.&nbsp;

On August 17, 1954 he married Florence Stramel at Dodge City.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on March 1, 2019.&nbsp;Survivors
 include: 7 children, Athena Moen and husband Dennis, Garfield, Kansas, 
Dale Hines and wife Sandy, Spearville, Alan Hines and wife Julie, 
Spearville, Gary Hines and wife Joleen, Dodge City, Rick Hines and wife 
Karla, Hays, Kansas, Connie Schuette and husband Mike, Wichita, and 
Sandra Junge and husband Tom, Adel, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Susan

Melvin Hines

Robert Ray LaRue, 83, passed away April 23, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born November 16, 1939, in Portageville, Missouri, the son of William Bryant LaRue and Mabel Maxine Hudgens LaRue.

Moving to Larned in 2015, he was a 
Billing/Accounting Clerk for an independent oil company. He attended 
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, was a member of the Knights of 
Columbus, volunteered at the movie theatre and Gateway Medical Center. 
He was very active at his church and was a Boy Scout Leader in Granite 
City, Illinois.

On June 19, 1961, he married Patricia June Barunica at Granite City, Illinois; she survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Christine 
(William Chapman) LaRue, Larned, Cheryl LaRue, Granite City, Illinois; 
two sons, Robert (Jasmin) LaRue, Elkgrove Village, Illinois, Walter 
LaRue, Ferguson, Missouri; sister, Shirley Kellerman; brother, Donald 
LaRue; and two grandchildren, Joshua LaRue and Justin LaRue.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five 
sisters, Dorothy Patillo, Juanita Downey, Gladys Eurene Phillips, Betty 
Winchester, and Aline Buie; two brothers, William LaRue and Herman 
Eugene Mitchell.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding.

Robert “Bob” William&nbsp;&nbsp;Willesden II, 75, passed away April 25, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center in 
Wichita. He was born July 9, 1947, in Queens, New York, to Robert 
William Willesden and Lillian Elizabeth (Alger) Willesden. He married 
Dianne (Dolezal) Ewing June 23, 1979, in Great Bend. 

&nbsp;A
 longtime Great Bend resident, Bob retired as a Lt. Disciplinarian 
Administrator in 2014, after 28 faithful years of service, at Larned 
Correctional Facility.&nbsp; Previously,
 he had been employed as a machinist and welder for 11 years in the 
oilfield industry, and through the course of many years, he demonstrated
 his skill as a horse farrier. Bob was a member of Faith Community 
Church, was a motorcycle enthusiast and avid gun collector, enjoyed 
four-wheeling, and enjoyed watching western and action movies, as well 
as the History Channel, Tucker Carlson Tonight, and other current 
political news. 

&nbsp;Survivors
 include, his wife, Dianne Willesden of the home; two sons, Robert W. 
Willesden III, and wife Debbie of Hoisington and Brian Ewing of Great 
Bend; three daughters, Tiffany Nily and husband David of Great Bend, 
Aimee Farris and husband Bill of East Troy, Wisc. And Brandy Gaddis and 
husband Mark of Wichita; a brother, George Gorsline Jr. and wife Debbie
 of Gulfport, Miss.; two sisters, Edith Barton of Topeka and Joyce 
Burnham and husband Mike of Great Bend; a sister in law, Evyonne 
Willesden of Fort Worth, Tex.; sixteen grandchildren; and five great 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W.

Belva Virginia Robertson, 98, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Homestead Assisted Living in Russell.

Virginia was born January 20, 1925, to Lee and Opal (Armstrong) Buck on the family farm in Smith County, Kansas.&nbsp; She attended&nbsp;high school at Smith Center, Kansas and Central College in McPherson, Kansas, where she received her degree in 1942.&nbsp; She continued her education at Fort Hays State College majoring in Elementary Education.&nbsp;

Virginia's teaching career began in a one room school in Smith County. She later taught elementary students in Smith Center, Waldo, Paradise, and Russell Kansas, totaling 48 years. She treasured contact with past students and keeping up with their lives.&nbsp;

Virginia married&nbsp;Clifford L. Robertson on April 25, 1946, in Smith Center.&nbsp; They moved to Paradise and remained there until 1965 when they moved to Russell. She lived independently until 2018.

Virginia's surviving family include her son, Jerry (Cindy) Robertson of Spring Hill, Kansas: daughter Janise (Scott) Cotton of Lexington, Kentucky: six grandchildren, Jordan (Dawn) Robertson, Lindsay (Seth) McConnell, Haley (Justin) Thomas, Ben, Bryce and Von Cotton; two great grandchildren, Cooper and Eden McConnell; sister, Betty Ayres of Sammamish, WA; brothers Von (Nancy) Buck, Colfax WA and Bob (Kerry) Buck, Yakima, WA, sister-in-law, Janet, Seattle, WA and brother-in-law, Marvin&nbsp;&nbsp;Mclaughlin, Spokane, WA. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Katie Sue Haag, 70, of Hays, died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, after the results of a fall at her home.,

She was born on July 3, 1952, in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Vernon and Eunice Steele Witwer. Katie graduated from Abilene High School in 1970 and later attended Fort Hays State University where she met Dale Kent Haag. They were married on January 15, 1973 in Abilene.&nbsp;

Katie and Dale returned to Hays in 1983 where she was a Supervisor at the ALCO Store for 20 years and a Co-Manager at Tandy’s Hallmark for 10 years.

While in college, Katie was a member of Tri Sigma, in recent years she enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Ladies and having coffee with her friends. You could always find Katie on the phone with either family or friends.&nbsp;

Please remember Katie each time you are drinking a Starbucks coffee or listening to a George Strait song.

Katie Sue Haag

Rebecca "Becci" Mari Rothfuss, age 58, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, 
passed away on April 20, 2023, at the Circle of Life Hospice in 
Springdale, Arkansas, after a short battle with cancer. 

Becci was born 
to Donald &amp; Ruth (Sandoz) Rothfuss on July 8, 1964 in Phillipsburg, 
Kansas. She grew up in the Kansas towns of Ottawa, Topeka, and 
Manhattan, where she graduated with honors from high school. She also 
graduated with honors with her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan 
University, obtained her Master’s degree from Oklahoma State University,
 and her PhD from Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas. 

Becci 
served as Resident Director/coordinator of Student Development at her 
alma mater, Oklahoma Wesleyan University for 6 years. She then accepted a
 position at John Brown University as Associate Dean of 
students/director of leadership and student activities, and later joined
 the faculty at JBU as associate professor of leadership studies. While 
at JBU, she designed and developed the Leadership Scholar Institute 
program. She led that program for 14 years, mentoring and teaching 
hundreds of students in key leadership skills. For many years she also 
served at JBU’s international studies program in Ireland. Growing up in a
 pastor’s home, she was introduced to her Savior, Jesus Christ, at a 
young age and continued to minister Christ’s love in a multiple of roles
 throughout her lifetime. Becci was well-known for her great 
gourmet cooking and hospitality, as well as artistic decorating shown in
 her lovely home. Hardly a week went by but what she hosted guests for a
 meal. Her pies were legendary. She loved to work with flowers and owned
 a florist shop for a few years after college. She prepared the floral 
arrangements for dozens of weddings, including most of her ten nieces 
and many friends. Becci never married and had no biological children, 
but in the greater sense, she served as mother to hundreds of students 
on the campuses she served and was a mentor to many. She also became 
like a second mother to all her nieces &amp; nephews. She is 
survived by her sisters, Marcia DePriest and husband David of Ottawa, 
Kansas; Linda Radaker and husband Greg of Dewey, Oklahoma; Patty Leach 
of Dewey, OK; and one brother Eugene Rothfuss and wife Joy of 
Independence, Missouri. Becci’s nieces &amp; nephews include Dr. Kirk 
(Kate) DePriest, Lara (Paul Douglas) DePriest, Katie (Robert) Wright, 
Kristen (Luke) Sheafer, Kyla (Christopher) Radaker-James, Karissa 
(Channing) Marvin, Wende (Tyler) Cassabaum, Cyndi (Andrew) Myers, Mysti 
(Garret) Mayse, Joey (Jen) Leach, J’llyssa Baker, and Jade Leach.

graduated with honors with her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan 
University, obtained her Master’s degree from Oklahoma State University,
 and her PhD from Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas. Becci 
served as Resident Director/coordinator of Student Development at her 
alma mater, Oklahoma Wesleyan University for 6 years. She then accepted a
 position at John Brown University as Associate Dean of 
students/director of leadership and student activities, and later joined
 the faculty at JBU as associate professor of leadership studies. While 
at JBU, she designed and developed the Leadership Scholar Institute 
program. She led that program for 14 years, mentoring and teaching 
hundreds of students in key leadership skills. For many years she also 
served at JBU’s international studies program in Ireland. Growing up in a
 pastor’s home, she was introduced to her Savior, Jesus Christ, at a 
young age and continued to minister Christ’s love in a multiple of roles
 throughout her lifetime. Becci was well-known for her great 
gourmet cooking and hospitality, as well as artistic decorating shown in
 her lovely home. Hardly a week went by but what she hosted guests for a
 meal. Her pies were legendary. She loved to work with flowers and owned
 a florist shop for a few years after college. She prepared the floral 
arrangements for dozens of weddings, including most of her ten nieces 
and many friends. Becci never married and had no biological children, 
but in the greater sense, she served as mother to hundreds of students 
on the campuses she served and was a mentor to many. She also became 
like a second mother to all her nieces &amp; nephews. She is 
survived by her sisters, Marcia DePriest and husband David of Ottawa, 
Kansas; Linda Radaker and husband Greg of Dewey, Oklahoma; Patty Leach 
of Dewey, OK; and one brother Eugene Rothfuss and wife Joy of 
Independence, Missouri. Becci’s nieces &amp; nephews include Dr. Kirk 
(Kate) DePriest, Lara (Paul Douglas) DePriest, Katie (Robert) Wright, 
Kristen (Luke) Sheafer, Kyla (Christopher) Radaker-James, Karissa 
(Channing) Marvin, Wende (Tyler) Cassabaum, Cyndi (Andrew) Myers, Mysti 
(Garret) Mayse, Joey (Jen) Leach, J’llyssa Baker, and Jade Leach. 
 Memorial funds will be established to support scholarships for family 
&amp; friends through the Sandoz legacy scholarship fund and a general 
leadership scholarship fund to be established in Becci’s memory.

Lawrence W.&nbsp;Ehrlich, 96, of Russell,&nbsp;Kansas, died on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp;

Lawrence was born on July 17, 1926, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Gotfred and Ida C. (Strecker) Ehrlich. &nbsp;He grew up in Russell and attended Russell schools. &nbsp;He joined the United States Armyduring the Korean war&nbsp;and was inducted in October 1944. &nbsp;After serving his country, he met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Victoria B.&nbsp;Michaelis&nbsp;on November 16, 1947, in Russell, Kansasat the St. John Lutheran Church. From this union, Lawrence and Victoria&nbsp;were blessed with two sons Tim and Thomas. &nbsp;He worked&nbsp;as a salesman&nbsp;for Shannon’s appliance&nbsp;for 20 years and also worked for the city and county of Russell. &nbsp;He was a longtime member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. &nbsp;He was a member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #624 and the Russell American Legion Post #99. &nbsp;He&nbsp;loved dancing polka with his wife and especially enjoyed&nbsp;spending time with his family.

Surviving family include his two sons Tim R. Ehrlich of&nbsp;Clearwater, Kansas and Thomas J. Ehrlich of Hutchinson, Kansas; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death&nbsp;by his parents, wife Victoria on September 22, 2005, and his brother Alvin Ehrlich.

A&nbsp;private burial has taken place&nbsp;at the Russell City Cemetery. &nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Rita Merle Shelton, 96, of Olathe, passed away on April 22, 2023, with 
loving family at her side. Mother indicated her greatest and most 
loving accomplishment was her three daughters. Although she loved her 
family beyond measure, she definitely touched the life of many other 
family and friends. She was born on May 31, 1926, to 
William and Blanche (Brosa) Thompson at Moorcroft, WY. At an early age,
 Rita moved to Norton, Kansas, with her parents where she grew up and 
attended Norton schools. Rita was united in marriage to James P.
 Shelton in Goodland, Kansas. To this union, three daughters were born,
 Wilma Wilcox, Jody Stephen and Jeannie Peterson. Rita and James made 
their home in Norton until 1972. Rita returned to Norton High 
School to complete her work and graduated in 1965. Later she attended 
Fort Hays State College to take courses in Library Science. In 1975, 
she became Librarian at the Norton Public Library. She worked there for
 13 years. In October of 1983, Rita and James made their way to
 Olathe, Kansas, where they retired to be with their three daughters and 
families. They eventually moved to live with their daughter, Jeannie and
 husband, Larry, as extra care was needed. Rita loved to 
travel. She traveled extensively in the United States, Europe and Saudi
 Arabia and celebrated when she made it to all 50 states. She was a 
member of the First Baptist Church, Ladies Reading Circle Federated 
Study Club, Salvation Army Auxiliary, a Johnson County Extension 
Homemaker’s Unit, and Rebekah Lodge. With her love of books, she was an
 active member of the Friends Group at the Olathe Public Library, and 
with her faith in God, she was always active and supportive in her 
church. Rita is survived by her loving daughters, Jeannie 
(Larry) Peterson, Jody (Jim) Stephen, and Wilma Wilcox, grandchildren, 
Jeremy Peterson, Erica Del Monaco and David Wilcox, great grandchildren,

Jeanette Ann Harris of Mead, Colo., passed to her heavenly home on April 19, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society of Loveland, Colo. She was born Dec. 19, 1939, in Walker to Ed and Sally (Roth) Wellbrock.

One of 12 children (six boy and six girls), Jeanette graduated from Victoria High School in 1957. After graduating, she moved to Salina. There, she met the love of her life, Arthur Harris, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They married Jan. 20, 1962, and recently celebrated their 61st anniversary.

Jeanette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved anything that involved family and was always up for planning family events. She and Art made their home at many different Air Force bases in their early married years as Art made a career in the military, and Jeanette kept the home fires burning.

Jeanette and Art have four children: Kim Holley (huband Michael), Hugoton, Cindy Redfield (Denny Craddick, Utica, Neb., Linda Pennock (Husband Doug), Berthoud, Colo., and Bryan Harris, Dacono, Colo. They have seven grandchildren: Matt, Amanda, Ashley, Andrew, Aaron, rebecca and Susan and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jeanete loved to sing and play various instruments. She was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church of Mead, where she was involved in the women's group and helped with numerous events.

Jeanette was always walking to see the beauty of God's creations and for exercise. She took part in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, walking 60 miles from Fort Collins to Boulder. She and Art went on many adventures and traveled extensively.

Jeanette always said, “life is beautiful” and “all girls need huggies." She lived her life by those mottos. She saw the beauty in all things and gave hugs freely.

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Art, of the home. In addition to her immediate family, Jeannette is also survived by her bothers and sisters: Lee Wellbock (Bonnie Dolata), Dianne Paciello, Jim Wellbrock (Jan), Dennis Wellbrock (Theresa), Kathleen Cooper, Better Woodruff (Dennis) and Brenda Gross (Gary), and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Guardian Angels Catholics Church, Mead, on May 8, 2023 at 11 a.m. at 109 S. Third St., Mead. A Rosary will be said beginning at 10:30 AM at the church. A Celebration of Life Mass will follow at 11:00.
