Ronald Wayne Cummings went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, April 2nd, 
2023, surrounded by family at his home in McKinney, TX. Ron was born in 
Hays, KS on March 2, 1949, to Alfred and Irene (Spitsnaugle) Cummings, 
and was raised on their family farm north of Morland, KS. 

He graduated 
from Morland High School in 1967 and went on to play football at Fort 
Hays State University, where he graduated in 1971 with a degree in 
Pre-Law. 

Ron married his high school sweetheart, Marietta Teel, in 1970.
 He began his walk with the Lord on the same day they celebrated their 
eighth wedding anniversary, when he accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. 
Together, they raised three children; Nicole, Joshua, and Andrew. 

Ron 
wore many hats throughout his early working years, including farmer, 
rancher, custom harvester, house flipper, sale barn owner, car lot and 
variety store owner, and general barterer for just about anything! The 
latter part of his career was spent looking for oil. 

In 2011, Ron &amp; 
Marietta switched gears and started chasing grandkids around. Ron 
cheered them on exuberantly, shouting out his signature "Git 'em! Git 
'em! Git 'em!" at countless sporting events. Through it all, Ron knew 
scarcity, and he knew abundance. He knew how to find as much pleasure in
 a bologna sandwich as he did in a good T-bone! 

Regardless of whether 
times were rich or lean, though, he was always extremely generous with 
his time and resources. Many a restaurant wait staff were scared for 
their lives as fights broke out to be the first to grab the ticket after
 a meal with friends and family! 

He passes on this legacy of generosity 
to his loving wife of 53 years, Marietta, of McKinney, TX; daughter, 
Nicole (Kyle) Herrman, of Garden City, KS; son, Joshua (Natalie) 
Cummings, of Kansas City, MO; and son Andrew (Jan) Cummings, of 
McKinney, TX; along with his six grandchildren, Jordan &amp; Kyler 
Herrman, of Manhattan, KS; Rhett, Avington and Gane Cummings, of 
McKinney, TX; and Kaden Cummings, of Kansas City, MO. He is also 
survived by a brother, Charles (Kay) Cummings, of Kansas City, KS, and 
two nephews. 

A celebration of life will be held at Community North 
Baptist Church, 2500 Community Ave., McKinney, TX, on Saturday, April 
15th, 2023, at 11:00 am.

Marie
 Evelyn (Brown) von Forell was born September 4, 1920, to Bernard V. and
 Ethlyn (Hartman) Brown.&nbsp; The doctor said not to name her because she 
wouldn’t live more than a couple of weeks.&nbsp; She entered into eternal 
life April 3, 2023, at the age of 102 years, 7 months.

Marie
 was born in Hebron, Nebraska, the second of four children.&nbsp; At a very 
young age, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and then back to Hebron
 in 1928.&nbsp; She grew up during the depression with multiple generations 
living together at her grandparents’ home. Marie graduated from Hebron 
High School in 1938.

Marie
 was married to Drexel G. von Forell on November 24, 1938, (Thanksgiving 
Day).&nbsp; They farmed at Hebron through World War II.&nbsp; In the late 1940s, 
Drexel was called into the ministry and attended Manhattan Bible 
College.&nbsp; Marie became a supportive pastor’s wife.&nbsp; As she and Drexel 
moved from church to church, she held jobs as a bookkeeper at several 
banks in Nebraska, a hospital in Wisconsin; worked for the newspaper in 
Smith Center, Kansas, and Boss Motors in Marysville, Kansas. She raised 
four children in Kansas and Nebraska and participated in church life as 
the pastor’s wife for most of her married life.&nbsp;

After
 their retirement, Drexel and Marie moved to Waterville, Kansas, and 
started renovating a 100-year-old home.&nbsp; They later moved to the Kansas 
Christian Home in Newton, Kansas&nbsp; Marie kept busy with her doll 
collection; began quilting and made quilts for each child and 
grandchild.&nbsp; She also made many quilts for charity and was the 
coordinator for the Kansas Christian Home sewing group which provided 
residents with gowns and bibs.&nbsp; If you had a baby, you probably received
 a Raggedy Ann doll.&nbsp; She made hundreds of these for gifts and for the 
church bazaars.&nbsp; In 2015, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas, to live with 
her daughter and son-in-law, as her glaucoma was getting worse.&nbsp; She 
continued making her charity quilts until she was 98.

She
 was predeceased by Drexel, her husband of 58 years; her parents, 
Bernard and Ethlyn Brown; siblings, Gene Brown, June Hainlen and Melvin 
Brown; and granddaughter, Rayna von Forell.

She
 is survived by her children, Gene von Forell (Brenda), Donna Copeland 
(Lee), Margaret Zimmerman (Bob), and Nancy Schurle (Fred); 
granddaughters, Deborah Copeland, Rebekah Palmero, Beth Hewes, Kaitlin 
Witt, Joelle von Forell and Danielle von Forell; great-grandchildren, 
Terran Copeland-Garcia, Aric Garcia, Allegra Garcia-Oliver, Bennett and 
Audrey Witt; great-great-grandchildren, Rowan and Gage Copeland-Garcia 
and Baby Boy Garcia (on the way); and 13 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2023, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Funeral
 services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the 
Keats United Methodist Church with Pastors Sandy Ferguson and Gary Bell

Marie Evelyn (Brown) von Forell

Richard L. Bell, 91, of Junction City, formerly of Denison, Texas, 
passed away Tuesday, April 4th, 2023, at the Via Christi Village in 
Manhattan.  He was the owner of Bell Mobil and Wrecker Service in 
Richardson, Texas, for over 40 years.

Richard was born 
in Osborne, Kansas, on September 6, 1931.  He was the son of the late 
Floyd Logan and Zelma Diane (Coppock) Bell.  He attended and graduated 
from the Downs High School in Downs, Kansas.  He was the husband of 
Evelyn (Darcangelo) Bell,  they were married on Aug. 15, 1953, in 
Quantico, Virginia. He served in the U.S. Marines as a 1st Lt. during the
 Korean War.  As he and Evelyn traveled for his jobs, they fell in love 
with the Richardson, Texas, area and made it "their home." Richard 
enjoyed the outdoors, which allowed him to be an Assistant Boy Scout 
Leader of BSA Troop 720.

Richard is survived by his 
wife Evelyn of their home; two daughters, Julie M. Bell (T. Bryan 
Darrah), of Junction City; Vikki Potts, of Prosper, TX; a son, Kenneth 
E. Bell, of San Marcos, TX; a sister, Joann Bell, of Topeka; a brother, 
Larry Lee, widower of Lois Bell, of Me'Rida, Yucatán, Mexico; 6 
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  Richard is preceded in death 
by his parents; two sons, Richard F. Bell &amp; Mark A. Bell.

Richard L. Bell

Edward Seaton, who died Dec. 26, 2022, at age 79, wouldn’t have 
wanted to bury the lede. He was, first and foremost, a man who wanted 
all the facts, wanted them unvarnished; he wanted to face the tough 
problems head-on, believing in his core that there was always a solution
 if you got all the facts and worked hard enough to understand them 
correctly.

So it would be his wish that you know he
 died sometime in the middle of the night, evidently falling at the foot
 of his bed, never to rise again. Since the death of his wife Karen 30 
months ago, he had lived alone in their home at the top of Delaware 
Avenue in Manhattan, eating dinner by himself at a small table with nine
 photos of her facing him.

He had a medical alert 
necklace, a common-sense arrangement for a guy who didn’t want any more 
help, wanted to stick to his routines, wanted to remain in his own home.
 The fact that he never pushed the button — and the fact that there was 
no evidence of any other trouble — would indicate that he died quickly, 
and did not suffer in that moment. He would also want to point out that 
we don’t know that for sure, since he’s the only guy that did the dying,
 and, as he would assert, he ain’t talkin’.

Edward 
had a rough last year, catching pneumonia last winter and spending a 
month in the hospital. COVID put him back in the hospital for a week in 
the spring, but he made it up to the family vacation spot in Bay Lake, 
Minnesota, for a couple of weeks in the summer. He had, the year before,
 made it through open-heart surgery. He also survived throat cancer in 
the late 1990s and a traumatic brain injury in 2015, after falling 
backwards on the tennis court in the twice-a-week late-afternoon doubles
 game he played for 40 years. He was a man of diligence, of routines, 
and refusal to give in.

Edward had spent Christmas Eve 
at his home with his son Ned and daughter-in-law Angie, and his 
grandkids Jake, Hannah and Brett Seaton, and his 
grandson-in-every-way-but-genetically Kirkland Lambert. He made a fire, 
and suggested swapping out a couple of CDs in the stereo – bought in the
 1970s, still functioning competently — for Mormon Tabernacle Choir 
Christmas collections. He did his research on that stereo system — he 
still had an active subscription to Consumer Reports magazine — bought 
intelligently, and then kept gizmos forever. He asked for help this 
winter fixing the tuning knob on a short-wave radio.

Don’t
 get dazzled by flashing lights and buzzers, he said; technology is just
 a black box that either makes your life better or it doesn’t. Other 
common refrains: No need to reinvent the wheel. Don’t build any Taj 
Mahals. Don’t build monuments. Take care of the pennies and the dollars 
will take care of themselves.

He knew his health 
was declining, and he was under no illusions about that. But he truly 
had a pleasant Christmas Eve, watching kids open presents, opening a few
 himself. On Christmas Day, he watched “Love Actually,” Jay’s favorite, 
which he said was OK. He watched “Christmas Vacation” at Ned’s 
suggestion, which he thought was just dumb. He planned to watch “It’s a 
Wonderful Life;” it’s not entirely clear if he got around to that one.

Edward
 was born in Manhattan Feb. 5, 1943, to Richard M. Seaton and Mary 
Holton Seaton; they lived in a home on Longview Drive. He was the 
youngest of their four children: Richard H., David and Elizabeth came 
before him, in that order. They moved to Coffeyville before Edward went 
to school, so he grew up entirely in that town. His father was the 
publisher of the Coffeyville Journal. His grandfather, Fay N. Seaton, 
had bought the Manhattan Mercury in 1915.

He was a 
natural-born entrepreneur, according to family lore, gathering up 
trinkets donated by family members and re-selling them to other family 
members. He held his own church services, passing the plate. He was in 
4-H and Boy Scouts, eventually earning his Eagle Scout.

Edward
 went away to Harvard, following both of his brothers. All three were 
competitive college swimmers. Edward roomed all four years with David 
Abramson, a New Yorker who became his best friend. His last trip, in 
November, was to see David receive an award in New York.

He
 also developed an interest in Spain, sparked by some early European 
travels with his parents and by the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War 
and the rise of the Franco regime there.

He 
traveled to Madrid for the summer between his junior and senior years of
 college so as to study the language and gather information toward a 
senior thesis he planned to write. It was there that he met Karen 
Mathisen, a Vassar girl from New York who, by happenstance, lived with 
the same host family in a home on Calle Alcala.

The 
fact that there remains, to this day, a coffee cup in his kitchen 
cabinet imprinted with the name of that street tells you about as much 
as you need to know. Karen and Edward fell in love, and were married 
Sept. 4, 1965, three months after Edward’s graduation from Harvard.

Karen
 died in June, 2020. Edward said half of him was gone after that, but 
the force of habit and the belief in the value of work kept him busy. He
 swam routinely this past summer, and walked on a treadmill, as recently
 as a week before his death.

The doctors had sent him 
for an echocardiogram, which revealed a narrowed aortic valve — a 
problem that the surgeons had chosen not to address in his heart surgery
 a year and a half ago. If that valve was ultimately the cause of his 
demise, then it would be accurate to say that he died of a broken heart.
 It was, at least, symbolically true.

Karen and Edward 
spent their first year of marriage in Quito, Ecuador, on a Fulbright 
Scholarship Edward had won. That began a lifelong love affair with Latin
 America, where they traveled together many times.

Edward
 joined, and eventually led, the Inter American Press Association and 
its efforts to secure freedom of the press across the Americas. In the 
largest sense, that effort succeeded, culminating in the signing of the 
Declaration of Chapultepec, a free-press document signed by nearly every
 country in the hemisphere. Along the way, he engaged in a public 
five-hour debate with Fidel Castro — in Spanish. In his later years, he 
wrote a book about his work in that crusade called “Heroes and 
Scoundrels.” His last major undertaking was writing the story of Karen’s
 life, which he completed a few months ago.

Edward 
had a lifelong love affair also with good food and wine, and became a 
very good cook. He and Karen turned meals into special occasions. At the
 family gathering in Minnesota in August, he annually brought in fancy, 
often stinky, cheeses, which he would describe in great detail for his 
grandchildren, who came to love the whole production. Granddaughter 
Hannah hit the nail on the head when asked what she thought of the 
cheese: “Awful but good.”

He kept detailed spreadsheets
 — handwritten, of course — detailing when the wines in their basement 
storeroom would be at their peak.

After Quito, they 
went to Columbia, Mo., where Edward pursued a master’s degree in 
journalism. Their first son, Edward (Ned) Merrill Seaton was born there 
in 1967; Karen always said Edward never quite finished his graduate 
degree work because he was too fascinated by Ned. Ned eventually 
succeeded his father as the Mercury’s publisher, inheriting from his dad
 not only a career but his joy in the written word. Ned also became a 
decent tennis player, following in his dad’s footsteps. They had titanic
 ping-pong battles in the basement of their house on College Heights 
Road that ended with at least one hole punched in a wall. The tennis 
battles ended once Edward lost to Ned a few times in a row. He always 
blamed a pre-match martini, but he was mostly joking. Tanqueray, up, 
with a twist.

They moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where
 Edward got a reporter’s job with the Courier-Journal. Then, in 1969, he
 joined the family business as the general manager of The Manhattan 
Mercury. He became the publisher and editor-in-chief and effectively ran
 the newspaper for the next 53 years.

His younger 
son, John David (Jay) Seaton, was born Nov. 20, 1970, in Manhattan. Jay 
inherited Edward’s cooking prowess, his attention to detail, his sense 
of adventure and his mechanical aptitude, which was considerable. Edward
 could tie good knots, he was an excellent fisherman, and he was capable
 of operating a printing press. Jay also followed in his father’s 
footsteps, leaving a Kansas City law firm to become publisher of The 
(Grand Junction, Colo.) Daily Sentinel, the largest newspaper between 
Denver and Salt Lake.

In 1988, Edward and Karen hosted 
Beatriz Parias, an Amity Aide teacher from Spain who spent a year at 
Manhattan High. She became a would-be daughter to them. Edward traveled 
for two weeks in Spain this fall to visit Beatriz, where, among other 
places, he revisited Calle Alcala.

Along with his 
father, his uncle Fred Seaton and then his brother David in Winfield and
 his cousin Don in Hastings, Neb., Edward built a collection of 
companies that operated newspapers in Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, 
Wyoming, Colorado and Oklahoma. The family also owned Manhattan 
Broadcasting, which has expanded to include five stations in the 
Manhattan region, as well as a broadcasting enterprise in Grand 
Junction, Colorado. Although they were a collection of affiliated 
companies, it would not be a stretch to say that Edward was a driving 
force in all of them. He always read the reports, and had handwritten 
notes, and would ask the difficult questions.

He was 
involved in his hometown of Manhattan in several ways, serving as the 
chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, the president of the Rotary Club 
and the chair of the United Way. He supported Kansas State University in
 many ways, including leading the fundraising effort to build Bramlage 
Coliseum. He also created and oversaw the YES Fund, raising millions of 
dollars to support after-school programs for local kids. Those wishing

To attempt to 
enumerate all his positions and the organizations that he helped would 
be foolhardy, and it would belabor the point. The point is, as he told 
Ned and Angie on Christmas Eve, “I just tried to do the right thing.”

At
 a broader level, he served as the president of the American Society of 
Newspaper Editors, and he served on the board that awards the Pulitzer 
Prizes, including a term as its chairman. He read every word of all the 
entries. He’s in the Kansas Newspaper Hall of Fame.

He’s
 survived by Ned and Angie and their kids: Jake, Hannah, Brett, 
Kirkland, Grant Geyer, Megan Geyer and Adam Geyer; and by Jay and his 
spouse Ann Groves and their kids: Katherine Seaton, Beck Seaton and Rio 
Groves, all of Grand Junction, Colo. He was proud of Katherine, a 
visually impaired young lady who turned 21 Dec. 27, who is attending the
 Berklee College of Music in Boston. Among her many original 
compositions was a hip-hop number, “The Stinky Cheese Rap,” obviously an
 ode to her grandpa, where the extended dinners often led to 
conversations that veered from politics to what to do about intelligent 
life elsewhere in the universe. The opening line of that song: “Sittin’ 
round the table with grandpa’s rants…”

Edward left this
 world only a block from the home where he came into it. But the world 
he left behind is better than the one he came into, from his hometown to
 the halls of power across the western hemisphere, to newsrooms across 
the country and the world. And more than anything, of course, in the 
hearts and minds of his kids and grandkids.

A 
celebration of the life of Edward L. Seaton is scheduled for 11 a.m. on 
Saturday, April 15, 2023, at All Faiths Chapel on the campus of Kansas 
State University. All are invited.

There will be 
speakers and music. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to 
the YES! Fund, a charity he helped establish and run for 30 years. It 
benefits after-school programs for kids in the Manhattan area.

 </figure>Edward Seaton, who died Dec. 26, 2022, at age 79, wouldn’t have 
wanted to bury the lede. He was, first and foremost, a man who wanted 
all the facts, wanted them unvarnished; he wanted to face the tough 
problems head-on, believing in his core that there was always a solution
 if you got all the facts and worked hard enough to understand them 
correctly. So it would be his wish that you know he
 died sometime in the middle of the night, evidently falling at the foot
 of his bed, never to rise again. Since the death of his wife Karen 30 
months ago, he had lived alone in their home at the top of Delaware 
Avenue in Manhattan, eating dinner by himself at a small table with nine
 photos of her facing him.He had a medical alert 
necklace, a common-sense arrangement for a guy who didn’t want any more 
help, wanted to stick to his routines, wanted to remain in his own home.
 The fact that he never pushed the button — and the fact that there was 
no evidence of any other trouble — would indicate that he died quickly, 
and did not suffer in that moment. He would also want to point out that 
we don’t know that for sure, since he’s the only guy that did the dying,
 and, as he would assert, he ain’t talkin’. Edward 
had a rough last year, catching pneumonia last winter and spending a 
month in the hospital. COVID put him back in the hospital for a week in 
the spring, but he made it up to the family vacation spot in Bay Lake, 
Minnesota, for a couple of weeks in the summer. He had, the year before,
 made it through open-heart surgery. He also survived throat cancer in 
the late 1990s and a traumatic brain injury in 2015, after falling 
backwards on the tennis court in the twice-a-week late-afternoon doubles
 game he played for 40 years. He was a man of diligence, of routines, 
and refusal to give in.Edward had spent Christmas Eve 
at his home with his son Ned and daughter-in-law Angie, and his 
grandkids Jake, Hannah and Brett Seaton, and his 
grandson-in-every-way-but-genetically Kirkland Lambert. He made a fire, 
and suggested swapping out a couple of CDs in the stereo – bought in the
 1970s, still functioning competently — for Mormon Tabernacle Choir 
Christmas collections. He did his research on that stereo system — he 
still had an active subscription to Consumer Reports magazine — bought 
intelligently, and then kept gizmos forever. He asked for help this 
winter fixing the tuning knob on a short-wave radio.Don’t
 get dazzled by flashing lights and buzzers, he said; technology is just
 a black box that either makes your life better or it doesn’t. Other 
common refrains: No need to reinvent the wheel. Don’t build any Taj 
Mahals. Don’t build monuments. Take care of the pennies and the dollars 
will take care of themselves. He knew his health 
was declining, and he was under no illusions about that. But he truly 
had a pleasant Christmas Eve, watching kids open presents, opening a few
 himself. On Christmas Day, he watched “Love Actually,” Jay’s favorite, 
which he said was OK. He watched “Christmas Vacation” at Ned’s 
suggestion, which he thought was just dumb. He planned to watch “It’s a 
Wonderful Life;” it’s not entirely clear if he got around to that one.Edward
 was born in Manhattan Feb. 5, 1943, to Richard M. Seaton and Mary 
Holton Seaton; they lived in a home on Longview Drive. He was the 
youngest of their four children: Richard H., David and Elizabeth came 
before him, in that order. They moved to Coffeyville before Edward went 
to school, so he grew up entirely in that town. His father was the 
publisher of the Coffeyville Journal. His grandfather, Fay N. Seaton, 
had bought the Manhattan Mercury in 1915.He was a 
natural-born entrepreneur, according to family lore, gathering up 
trinkets donated by family members and re-selling them to other family 
members. He held his own church services, passing the plate. He was in 
4-H and Boy Scouts, eventually earning his Eagle Scout.Edward
 went away to Harvard, following both of his brothers. All three were 
competitive college swimmers. Edward roomed all four years with David 
Abramson, a New Yorker who became his best friend. His last trip, in 
November, was to see David receive an award in New York.He
 also developed an interest in Spain, sparked by some early European 
travels with his parents and by the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War 
and the rise of the Franco regime there. He 
traveled to Madrid for the summer between his junior and senior years of
 college so as to study the language and gather information toward a 
senior thesis he planned to write. It was there that he met Karen 
Mathisen, a Vassar girl from New York who, by happenstance, lived with 
the same host family in a home on Calle Alcala.The 
fact that there remains, to this day, a coffee cup in his kitchen 
cabinet imprinted with the name of that street tells you about as much 
as you need to know. Karen and Edward fell in love, and were married 
Sept. 4, 1965, three months after Edward’s graduation from Harvard.Karen
 died in June, 2020. Edward said half of him was gone after that, but 
the force of habit and the belief in the value of work kept him busy. He
 swam routinely this past summer, and walked on a treadmill, as recently
 as a week before his death.The doctors had sent him 
for an echocardiogram, which revealed a narrowed aortic valve — a 
problem that the surgeons had chosen not to address in his heart surgery
 a year and a half ago. If that valve was ultimately the cause of his 
demise, then it would be accurate to say that he died of a broken heart.
 It was, at least, symbolically true.Karen and Edward 
spent their first year of marriage in Quito, Ecuador, on a Fulbright 
Scholarship Edward had won. That began a lifelong love affair with Latin
 America, where they traveled together many times.Edward
 joined, and eventually led, the Inter American Press Association and 
its efforts to secure freedom of the press across the Americas. In the 
largest sense, that effort succeeded, culminating in the signing of the 
Declaration of Chapultepec, a free-press document signed by nearly every
 country in the hemisphere. Along the way, he engaged in a public 
five-hour debate with Fidel Castro — in Spanish. In his later years, he 
wrote a book about his work in that crusade called “Heroes and 
Scoundrels.” His last major undertaking was writing the story of Karen’s
 life, which he completed a few months ago. Edward 
had a lifelong love affair also with good food and wine, and became a 
very good cook. He and Karen turned meals into special occasions. At the
 family gathering in Minnesota in August, he annually brought in fancy, 
often stinky, cheeses, which he would describe in great detail for his 
grandchildren, who came to love the whole production. Granddaughter 
Hannah hit the nail on the head when asked what she thought of the 
cheese: “Awful but good.”He kept detailed spreadsheets
 — handwritten, of course — detailing when the wines in their basement 
storeroom would be at their peak.After Quito, they 
went to Columbia, Mo., where Edward pursued a master’s degree in 
journalism. Their first son, Edward (Ned) Merrill Seaton was born there 
in 1967; Karen always said Edward never quite finished his graduate 
degree work because he was too fascinated by Ned. Ned eventually 
succeeded his father as the Mercury’s publisher, inheriting from his dad
 not only a career but his joy in the written word. Ned also became a 
decent tennis player, following in his dad’s footsteps. They had titanic
 ping-pong battles in the basement of their house on College Heights 
Road that ended with at least one hole punched in a wall. The tennis 
battles ended once Edward lost to Ned a few times in a row. He always 
blamed a pre-match martini, but he was mostly joking. Tanqueray, up, 
with a twist.They moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where
 Edward got a reporter’s job with the Courier-Journal. Then, in 1969, he
 joined the family business as the general manager of The Manhattan 
Mercury. He became the publisher and editor-in-chief and effectively ran
 the newspaper for the next 53 years. His younger 
son, John David (Jay) Seaton, was born Nov. 20, 1970, in Manhattan. Jay 
inherited Edward’s cooking prowess, his attention to detail, his sense 
of adventure and his mechanical aptitude, which was considerable. Edward
 could tie good knots, he was an excellent fisherman, and he was capable
 of operating a printing press. Jay also followed in his father’s 
footsteps, leaving a Kansas City law firm to become publisher of The 
(Grand Junction, Colo.) Daily Sentinel, the largest newspaper between 
Denver and Salt Lake.In 1988, Edward and Karen hosted 
Beatriz Parias, an Amity Aide teacher from Spain who spent a year at 
Manhattan High. She became a would-be daughter to them. Edward traveled 
for two weeks in Spain this fall to visit Beatriz, where, among other 
places, he revisited Calle Alcala.Along with his 
father, his uncle Fred Seaton and then his brother David in Winfield and
 his cousin Don in Hastings, Neb., Edward built a collection of 
companies that operated newspapers in Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, 
Wyoming, Colorado and Oklahoma. The family also owned Manhattan 
Broadcasting, which has expanded to include five stations in the 
Manhattan region, as well as a broadcasting enterprise in Grand 
Junction, Colorado. Although they were a collection of affiliated 
companies, it would not be a stretch to say that Edward was a driving 
force in all of them. He always read the reports, and had handwritten 
notes, and would ask the difficult questions.He was 
involved in his hometown of Manhattan in several ways, serving as the 
chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, the president of the Rotary Club 
and the chair of the United Way. He supported Kansas State University in
 many ways, including leading the fundraising effort to build Bramlage 
Coliseum. He also created and oversaw the YES Fund, raising millions of 
dollars to support after-school programs for local kids. Those wishing

Edward Seaton

Bernice V. Tedford, age 97, of Goodland went to be with her Lord and 
Savior, Jesus Christ on April 5, 2023. She passed away in her home. 
Bernice was born September 10, 1925, to David P. Unruh and Anna (Jantz) 
Unruh on the family farm in Ochiltree County, Texas. She attended&nbsp;grade 
school in a country school in Ochiltree County and then attended 
Spearman High School and Perryton High School, graduating in 1942. She 
attended Oklahoma Bible Academy graduating in 1944. Bernice attended 
Bethel College in Newton, KS and Teacher’s College in Greeley, CO. She 
taught in a one room school house in Haskell County, KS, and later in 
Ulysses and Greensburg, KS.

On August 27, 1954, Bernice married Max I. Tedford of Minneola, KS. 
After their wedding in Perryton, TX they moved to Vona, CO where Max 
farmed and Bernice taught in the Vona School. They farmed in the Vona 
area for ten years. On February 19, 1965, they moved to a farm northwest 
of Goodland, KS. They farmed there for more than 50 years. Bernice was a
 homemaker and worked beside Max on the farm. Max and Bernice were 
married 63 years.

In her youth, Bernice accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior 
and continued faithfully&nbsp;serving her Lord in the work of the church and 
as a prayer warrior. For many years she attended Goodland Bible Church. 
In her latter years she was homebound and enjoyed many good Biblical 
sermons on the TV. Bernice enjoyed spending time with her family, church
 activities, scrapbooking, and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max; 
brothers, Eli, Allison, and LeRoy; and sisters-in-law, Marjorie and Kay 
Unruh.

She is survived by her son, Myron (Penny) Tedford of Goodland, KS; 
son, Gary Tedford of Farwell, TX, daughter; Karen (Ron) Garrett of 
Peculiar, MO; sister, Helen Bussey of Goodland, KS, sister-in-law, Ruby 
Unruh of Topeka, KS; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Bridgeport, NE resident Glenda L. Walinder passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2023, in Bridgeport at the age of 68.

She was born May 12, 1954, in Fayetteville, AR the daughter of Keith K and Edna I. (Clark) Watson.

On November 16, 1973, in Wichita, KS she was united in marriage to Michael L. Walinder.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include her daughters Angie Simmonds and husband 
Lonnie of Bridgeport, NE and Melissa C. Walinder of Fort Collins, CO; 3 
grandchildren:&nbsp; Jeremy, Kyle, and Tami; four great grandchildren; Emmah,
 Madisyn, &nbsp;Railynn, and Kristin; a brother Larry Watson and wife Brenda 
of Springfield, MO; and a sister Freda Cornfield and husband Charles of 
Erie, PA.

He was preceded by his parents and a brother Kenneth Alan Watson in 1980.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. Burial will follow in the 
Agra Cemetery, Agra, KS.

Mrs. Walinder will lie in state from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023 at the funeral chapel.

Karen M. (Augustine) Allison, 71, of Salina, Kansas, passed Wednesday April 5, 2023, at the Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp;

She was 
born March 20, 1952, to Johnny Augustine and Delores (Freitag) Augustine
 in Hays, KS.&nbsp;She married Darrell Allison on May 29, 1971, at Sacred 
Heart Cathedral.&nbsp; In her earlier years,&nbsp;Karen worked as a waitress at 
the Big Key, Busy Bee and Woolworth; she also was a stay-at-home mom 
for over 13 years.&nbsp; Karen worked at Wyatt’s Cafeteria, K-State of Salina
 and Senior companion care with individual ladies.

Karen was
 part of the Hedville ladies club, FCE group for 14 years, EHU club for 
10 years, senior center, card playing group and so much more.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Delores Augustine and son,&nbsp;Donnie Allison.&nbsp;

Survivors
 include: her husband, Darrell Allison of Salina; four daughters, Ali 
(Hollis) Wagner of Wichita, Ami Allison of Salina, Angie Allison of 
Salina, and&nbsp;April Allison of Texas;&nbsp; son,&nbsp;Darren Allison of Park City; 
10 grandchildren, Mia, Rakeen, Haley, Casey, Alyssia, Aliyah, Arianna, 
Johnathan, Darren and Tishanti; two great-grandchildren, Keanu and 
Isaac; two brothers, Steve (Betty) Augustine of Hesston and Danny Jo 
(Dana) Augustine of Overland Park; and three sisters, Janet Augustine of
 Goodland, Carolyn Augustine and Marilyn Augustine both of Salina.

The 
Memorial Mass will be at 11:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 
Sacred Hearth Cathedral, Salina, with the Rev. Fred Gatschet 
officiating. The rosary will be recited at 11:10 A.M.

flowers, the family has set up an Honor fund in Karen Allison’s memory 
for donations towards FCE (Family and Community Education). Karen has 
served in all the unit's leadership offices, president, vice-president,

for over 13 years.&nbsp; Karen worked at Wyatt’s Cafeteria, K-State of Salina
 and Senior companion care with individual ladies.Karen was
 part of the Hedville ladies club, FCE group for 14 years, EHU club for 
10 years, senior center, card playing group and so much more.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Delores Augustine and son,&nbsp;Donnie Allison.&nbsp;Survivors
 include: her husband, Darrell Allison of Salina; four daughters, Ali 
(Hollis) Wagner of Wichita, Ami Allison of Salina, Angie Allison of 
Salina, and&nbsp;April Allison of Texas;&nbsp; son,&nbsp;Darren Allison of Park City; 
10 grandchildren, Mia, Rakeen, Haley, Casey, Alyssia, Aliyah, Arianna, 
Johnathan, Darren and Tishanti; two great-grandchildren, Keanu and 
Isaac; two brothers, Steve (Betty) Augustine of Hesston and Danny Jo 
(Dana) Augustine of Overland Park; and three sisters, Janet Augustine of
 Goodland, Carolyn Augustine and Marilyn Augustine both of Salina.The 
Memorial Mass will be at 11:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 
Sacred Hearth Cathedral, Salina, with the Rev. Fred Gatschet 
officiating. The rosary will be recited at 11:10 A.M. In lieu of

Karen M. (Augustine) Allison

Janel A. Moore, 70, Hays, died Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at HaysMed surrounded by family.

She was born April 20, 1952, in Hays, 
the daughter of Larry F. and Laurine F. (Werth) Werth.&nbsp; She was a 
graduate of Marian High School in the class of 1970 and attended Fort 
Hays State University for two years, studying interior design.&nbsp; On May 
19, 1972, Janel was united in marriage to Orville G. Moore in 
Schoenchen, and they celebrated nearly 51 years of marriage.&nbsp; 

She worked
 at U-Save and Food Bonanza, was a dental assistant, and retired as a 
teller at Golden Belt Bank.&nbsp; She was a devout Catholic and member of 
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, past president of the 
Sunflower Chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from 
Russia, vice president of the Volga German Society, and historian for 
the Oktoberfest Committee.&nbsp; 

She enjoyed oldies music, singing and 
dancing, attending concerts, and any opportunity to travel.&nbsp; She loved 
her horses, mules, and being a farmer’s wife, especially during wheat 
harvest when there were family gatherings.&nbsp; Janel was like a mom to 
many, family meant everything to her, and she was a loving and proud 
grandma.

Survivors include her husband Orville 
of the home in Hays, three sons, Russ Moore and wife Jana of Topeka, 
John Moore and wife Chelsea of Hays, and Curtis Moore and wife Staci of 
Hays, a daughter, Leigh Ann Edmonds and husband Casey of Hays, three 
brothers, Michel Werth of Schoenchen, Todd Werth of Udall, and Nicolas 
Werth and wife Katie of Schoenchen, thirteen grandchildren, Jace Moore, 
Branen Moore, Georgia Edmonds, Carson Moore, Jett Edmonds, Maddox Moore,
 Kaden Moore, Easton Moore, Kipton Moore, Claire Edmonds, Alivia Moore, 
Preston Moore, and Vivian Moore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Henry Moore.

 Church with Fr. Joshua Werth officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St.

Melvin Norbert Metzen, age 75, passed away
 on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on 
October 3, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, The son of Leo Matthias and Agnes 
Caecilia Bayer Metzen.&nbsp; 

Melvin was a resident of Scott City, Kansas 
since 1973 moving from Larned, Kansas.&nbsp;

Melvin attended and majored in animal husbandry at Kansas State 
University.&nbsp; He made a career in Scott County working for multiple feed 
yards.&nbsp; After a brief retirement from the feed yards, he took a position
 with Circle C Farms which became the job he enjoyed the most.&nbsp; He was a
 Member of the Knights of Columbus, coached multiple youth sports, and 
was an active volunteer in beef 4-H projects for over 20 years.&nbsp;

On February 7, 1970, he married Janice K. Sanchez in Wichita, Kansas.

Survivors include his Wife - Janice Metzen of Scott City, Kansas, Two
 Sons - Melvin B. &amp; Cammi Metzen Of Garden City, Kansas, Daniel L.

Carmelita M. Pomeroy, a beautiful soul flew up to Heaven on Tuesday, 
April 4, 2023. Carmelita (Wedman) was born December 19, 1932, in 
Danville, Kansas, the daughter of Francis &amp; Laura (Oliver) Wedman, 
where she was raised on a farm and grew up with 7 siblings. 
 She married Carl Pomeroy on November 26, 1951, in Danville, Kansas.
 They lived in Stockton, Kansas, for a short time before moving to 
Garden City in 1967. They have lived in Garden City and Lakin since. A
 homemaker, Carmelita was a wonderful mother and fantastic cook, and 
loved to spend her time cleaning, gardening, fishing, camping, and 
enjoyed going to the casino. She had a love for little children and 
were the light of her life. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic 
Church in Garden City and the Altar Society. 
 Survivors include her three children Carolyn (John) Shanley of 
Thornton, Colorado, Marilyn Tucker of Garden City, Kansas, and Michael 
(Diane) Pomeroy of Newton, Kansas; 7 grandchildren; 11 
great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Carmelita is preceded
 in death by her husband Carl who died on December 7, 2015. She is also
 preceded in death by a son-in-law George Tucker; and as the last 
surviving member of her siblings, she is also preceded in death by 5 
brothers Bob Wedman, Donald Wedman, Gerald Wedman, Dennis Wedman, &amp; 
Dale Wedman; and 2 sisters Mary Kathryn Moritz and Julia Ann Moritz.

Carmelita M. Pomeroy

Ruth Eleanor (Vogel) Liston, 94, passed away on March 30, 2023, at 
Weston Country Hospital, New Castle, Wyo. She was born on April 26, 
1928, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Charles and Alma (English) Vogel, and was
 raised on a homestead ranch south of New Castle, Wyo. On May 16, 1950, 
she was united in holy matrimony to John L. Liston in Topeka, Kan. He 
passed on June 26, 2006.

A Great Bend resident for 61 years prior to moving to New Castle, 
Wyo., in 2011, Ruth worked for the USD 428 Central Kitchen for 11 years 
as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish 
at St. Rose in Great Bend, Altar Society, and Church of Corpus Christi 
in New Castle. Ruth’s life was her family and she cherished time with 
them.

Survivors include two sons, John C. Liston of New Castle, Wyo., and 
Matthew P. Liston (Kim) of Larned, Kan.; three daughters, Mary Ellen 
Liston of Resda, Calif., Kathleen M. McGhee (Michael) of Woodstock, Ga.,
 and Patricia Neybert (Ken) of Ellijay, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Sean 
McGahee, Jennifer Conley, Anna Wilbanks, Daniel Liston, Richard Liston, 
Sarah Betzen, and Patrick Liston; and four great-grandchildren. She is 
preceded in death by her husband; a son, Kevin M. Liston; her parents; 
and son-in-law, Frank McDonald.

Cordelia “Corky” Monroe passed away on March 29, 2023, at the Aspen 
Leaf Assisted Living Center in Stratton, 
CO.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Corky was born to Clyde and Emma Mullis on July 2, 1945, in 
Burlington, Colorado. She was the youngest of 4 children. She got the 
name Corky from her oldest brother because he couldn’t say Cordelia.&nbsp; 
During high school, Corky babysat and later worked at William’s Café on 
Main Street in Burlington. She spent her money on the movies and Elvis 
Presley albums of which she had many. She saw every movie that he made 
more times than you can count. As a young girl, she enjoyed “dragging 
main” with her girlfriends, roller skating and going to the movie 
theatre. &nbsp;She was a member of the Four Square Church in Burlington. It 
was at one of the church skating parties where she met Loran Monroe. The
 two got married in June of 1963 after Corky graduated from High school.
 &nbsp;They lived in Goodland, Kansas until after their first daughter was 
born when they moved back to Burlington where their other 3 daughters 
were born. While in Burlington, Corky babysat for a friend. She was a 
member of the Rebekah’s for many years.

In 1973, the family moved to a farm north of Stratton where she 
helped with the dairy and farming. She also raised 300 chickens for 
family members and gardened. Corky also enjoyed sewing and crocheting.&nbsp; 
She was a 4-H leader for 16 years when her children were in 4-H.

In 1993, she and Loran separated and she moved back to Burlington 
where she went to work for Alco. She worked there for over 20 years 
until they closed and she retired.&nbsp; She enjoyed her job and visiting 
with the customers. She always said she missed the people after she quit
 working.

Corky enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was very proud of all of them.

Corky is preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Emma, son-in-law 
Terry Brachtenbach, &nbsp;sister Eileen Weis, sister-in-law Jeanette Mullis, 
&nbsp;niece Georgie Ann Mullis, nephew David Mullis, brother-in-law Bernard 
Clark and niece Cathy Sevrin.

She is survived by her daughters Darla (Verlan) McDonald of Kirk, CO.
 Donna (Sheldon) Tatkenhorst of Stratton, CO. Deena (Roger) Peck of 
Wiggins and Debra (Donnie) Voss of Burlington.&nbsp; She is also survived by 
her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great- grandchildren,

CO.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Corky was born to Clyde and Emma Mullis on July 2, 1945, in 
Burlington, Colorado. She was the youngest of 4 children. She got the 
name Corky from her oldest brother because he couldn’t say Cordelia.&nbsp; 
During high school, Corky babysat and later worked at William’s Café on 
Main Street in Burlington. She spent her money on the movies and Elvis 
Presley albums of which she had many. She saw every movie that he made 
more times than you can count. As a young girl, she enjoyed “dragging 
main” with her girlfriends, roller skating and going to the movie 
theatre. &nbsp;She was a member of the Four Square Church in Burlington. It 
was at one of the church skating parties where she met Loran Monroe. The
 two got married in June of 1963 after Corky graduated from High school.
 &nbsp;They lived in Goodland, Kansas until after their first daughter was 
born when they moved back to Burlington where their other 3 daughters 
were born. While in Burlington, Corky babysat for a friend. She was a 
member of the Rebekah’s for many years.In 1973, the family moved to a farm north of Stratton where she 
helped with the dairy and farming. She also raised 300 chickens for 
family members and gardened. Corky also enjoyed sewing and crocheting.&nbsp; 
She was a 4-H leader for 16 years when her children were in 4-H.In 1993, she and Loran separated and she moved back to Burlington 
where she went to work for Alco. She worked there for over 20 years 
until they closed and she retired.&nbsp; She enjoyed her job and visiting 
with the customers. She always said she missed the people after she quit
 working.Corky enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was very proud of all of them.Corky is preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Emma, son-in-law 
Terry Brachtenbach, &nbsp;sister Eileen Weis, sister-in-law Jeanette Mullis, 
&nbsp;niece Georgie Ann Mullis, nephew David Mullis, brother-in-law Bernard 
Clark and niece Cathy Sevrin.She is survived by her daughters Darla (Verlan) McDonald of Kirk, CO.

Cordelia 'Corky' Monroe

Dr. Ali Bülent Manguoglu, 69, of Salina, KS passed 
away peacefully at home surrounded by his daughters and wife on April 
4th, 2023, with the support of Gentiva Hospice. Dr. Manguoglu was born 
in Izmir, Turkey, on May 12th, 1953.

He graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine, Ankara, 
Turkey in 1976, and then attended Ankara University School of Medicine, 
Ankara, Turkey, Dept. of General Surgery as a 1st year resident. Ali’s 
journey in the United States started at Baystate Medical Center, 
Springfield, Massachusetts, Dept. of General Surgery, then onto the 
University of Kansas School of Medicine, KC, KS, Dept. of Neurological 
Surgery (rock chalk!) for his Neurosurgery Residency. Ali then ventured 
to the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, Dept. of Neurosurgery, 
Registrar/Fellow, and finally the University of Maryland, Baltimore, 
Maryland, SHOCK-TRAUMA Unit, Neurotrauma Fellowship. &nbsp;

Dr. Manguoglu’s board certifications include the American Board of 
Neurological Surgery and Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, UK in 
Surgical Neurology (SN.) Ali established “Salina Neurological Surgery” 
practice in 1985, and then established (with Salina Regional Health 
Center) “Salina Regional Neurosurgery.” He retired in 2019 due to health
 conditions. He proudly served Salina and surrounding communities for 
nearly 35 years. &nbsp;

Not only was Dr. Manguoglu a world-renowned Neurosurgeon, but lived 
each day to the fullest, as if it were his last – travelling the world 
with his family and creating an endless book of stories. His favorite 
hobbies included listening and dancing to music, cooking, skiing, 
gardening, and rescuing animals.

Unfortunately, Dr. Ali B. Manguoglu lost his battle with terminal 
cancer and Parkinson’s disease after he fought hard to continue normalcy
 and create as many memories as he could in his final year, such as 
visiting his daughters and grandchildren, taking a final trip to Turkey 
and a memorable weekend in Kansas City at Tasso’s and Arthur Bryant’s.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Manguoglu, daughters Ayse 
Heisdorf and Safiye Williams, their husbands John Heisdorf and Mark 
Williams, and stepdaughter Heather Jones. Ali is also survived by his 
grandchildren Kai and Koa Williams and Ayla Heisdorf, as well as 
brothers Enis and Turgut Manguoglu. Ali was preceded in death by his 
stepson Steven Jones, and parents Fetih Manguoglu and Ahter Alkum.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 7th, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N
 8th St., Salina, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a graveside service will be 
held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8th, at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox foundation for 
Parkinson’s research, care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth Street,

Donald H. Pratt, age 85, of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023.

Don was born in Hays, KS to Donald and Ida Pratt on December 2, 1937. He grew up in Hays with his two brothers, Lawrence (deceased) and Steve. He developed a passion for airplanes much like his father. He first started flying airplanes at age 14 and was a crop-duster during summer breaks. He attended Wichita State University earning a civil engineering degree and bringing the national fraternity Beta Theta Tau to WSU and becoming its first chapter President. He spent three years in the United States Air Force as a Base Civil Engineer at Otis Air Force Base in Wareham, Massachusetts He was disappointed that he was unable to fly for the Air Force, as it was determined that he was green/gray color blind. After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended Harvard University and earned his MBA.

Upon graduation, he went to work with Butler Manufacturing. Don spent 36 years at Butler building an illustrious career. He started as an industrial engineer in Galesburg, Illinois, and after several years was brought to the headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. Over the next three decades he became the President and then Chairman of the Board, growing the company both nationally and internationally. After his retirement he served as the Independent Chairman of the Board at American Century Investments for seven years and considered his time at American Century to be both fulfilling and rewarding.

While at Wichita State, Don met George-Ann Hinkle and they were married June 7, 1960. They were married for 61 years prior to her passing in 2021. He and George-Ann raised their family of two children, Jacqueline and Donald, in Kansas City. Don generously shared his knowledge and time in his community as well; serving on the Nelson Gallery Board of Trustees, and the Union National Bank Board in Wichita, Ks. He was a longtime member of Mission Hills Country Club and the River Club. In his retirement, Don and George-Ann adopted Shelbyville, TN. as their second home. While George-Ann pursued her equestrian passion with Tennessee Walking horses, Don became an active member of the community. He was very involved with St William Catholic Church as well as the Riverbend Country Club. Don was an avid golfer and particularly enjoyed time spent on the course with his son, and life long friends. He was particularly proud of his club tournament wins and the opportunity to play in several pro-am events with American Century.

Don was a thoughtful, wise and gracious man who was always willing to listen and provide guidance. Don is survived by two children, Jacqueline P. (Matthew) McGuire and Donald A. (Kathy) Pratt; two grandchildren, Kevin (Courtney) Crawford and Grant (Alivia) Crawford; and a great-granddaughter, Lilliana Lynn Crawford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 11 at St. Ann Catholic Church Chapel, 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208. A Celebration of Life will be held 3-5 p.m., Thursday, May 11 at Mission Hills Country Club, 5400 Mission Dr., Mission Hills, KS.

Luetta B. Harrell, 93, passed away April 1, 2023,&nbsp; while under hospice care at Presbyterian Manor. Luetta was born May 15, 
1929, in Ellis, Kansas, the seventh of ten children belonging to Walter 
and Eva (Sauer) Haneke. 

Luetta graduated from Ellis High School in 1946 
and went on to marry George Harrell of Barnard, Kansas, on February 22nd,
 1948. They were married fifty-one years and spent most of their married
 lives in Salina. Luetta began her career as a receptionist at Waddell 
&amp; Reed and worked her way up to Financial Advisor where she helped a
 multitude of people manage their finances for over thirty years.

Luetta was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and 
was active in the Ladies Elks Club of Salina. As a first generation 
American, she enjoyed cooking Austrian recipes her mother, Eva, brought 
with her when she immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island.

Luetta was preceded in death by her husband, George Harrell in 1999; 
three sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by her daughter Joleen
 Stein (Steve) of Gypsum; grandchildren, Melynda McCabe (Chris) and 
Thomas Stein (Elane); great-grandchildren, Jack, Jace, Addie, Ellyanna; 
granddaughters, Bailey Harrell, Madison Harrell; son Mike Harrell; and 
siblings Donna Henderson and Don Haneke.

A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers,

Frank Eugene Lee was born July 23, 1972, to Donald and Betty (Perrin) 
Lee in Great Bend, Ks and passed away April 3, 2023, in Smith Center, Ks.
 He graduated from Larned High School in 1990. He met and later married 
Jennifer Park in Hays, Ks on November 20, 1997. To this union were born 
three children; Andrea, Brendan, and Addisyn. Frank worked as a CNA and 
was a sales associate.&nbsp;

He enjoyed coaching his girls 
in youth softball over the years. He followed his son in wrestling and 
football. Frank enjoyed watching sports on TV with his kids when they 
were grown.

Frank is survived by his three children, 
Andrea Lee, Brendan Lee, Addisyn Lee, and their mother Jennifer Lee; a 
sister Michelle Lee. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee, 
and his mother, Betty Lee.

Frank Eugene Lee 

Dolorsis R. "Dee" Scheetz, age 85, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away 
April 3, 2023, at Round Rock Assisted Living in Round Rock, Texas, with 
her son Christopher Scheetz by her side. Dee was born on January 
13, 1938, in Oakley, Kansas. Her parents were Gabriel Scheetz and 
Bernadine (Ecclesfield) Scheetz. She graduated from Oakley High School 
Class of 1956. For college, she graduated from Loretto Heights Academy 
near Denver, Colorado. She retired from IBM after 33 years of service, 
where she worked on numerous technologies that changed our daily lives. 
Early in her career, she was a proponent who fought for equal pay for 
women and racial equality in hiring. She was heavily involved in 
charitable work and the Catholic church. As one of the founding members 
of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Austin, Texas, she founded 
the high school youth group. She served on numerous committees, 
including building the church and new parish hall. Dee was an active 
Dame of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, where she achieved 
the highest promotion to Lady of the Grand Cross. Serving an 
organization that she loved, she is a past State Regent of the Catholic 
Daughters of the Americas. In 2019, the Diocese of Austin awarded her 
the Lumen Gentium Award. She donated not only her time, but her wealth. 
Dee gifted the church many items such as the grand piano, the 
audio-visual system, and numerous pieces of artwork. She had a passion 
for sports, charitable giving, cultural activities, entertainment, 
family, and the sanctity of life. Preceding her in death was her 
father, Gabriel Scheetz, her mother, Bernadine (Ecclesfield) Scheetz, 
and her brothers, Bernard, Richard, and Philip Scheetz. Surviving
 Dee is her son Chris Scheetz, brother Dennis Scheetz and his wife 
Phyllis (Ostmeyer) Scheetz, sister-in-law Sally Scheetz, nieces, and 
nephews, Melissa (Scheetz) Romme, Mary Ann (Scheetz) Rabe, Stanley 
Scheetz, Kathy (Scheetz) Davis, Sherry (Scheetz) DiGiovanni, as well as 
their spouses and children along with an abundance of dear friends. A
 visitation, vigil, and rosary for Dee will be held Monday, April 10, 
2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral 
Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A funeral 
mass will occur Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 10:00 am, at St Albert the 
Great Catholic Church, 12041 Bittern Hollow, Austin, TX 78758. After, 
she will be transported to Oakley, Kansas. In Oakley, KS, a 
visitation, vigil, and rosary will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, 
from 5 pm to 8 pm, vigil at 7 pm at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, 217 
Freeman Ave, Oakley, KS 67748. On Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10 am the
 funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 625 Freeman 
Ave Oakley, KS 67748. Fr. Luke Thielen will be officiating with burial

 </figure>Dolorsis R. "Dee" Scheetz, age 85, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away 
April 3, 2023, at Round Rock Assisted Living in Round Rock, Texas, with 
her son Christopher Scheetz by her side. Dee was born on January 
13, 1938, in Oakley, Kansas. Her parents were Gabriel Scheetz and 
Bernadine (Ecclesfield) Scheetz. She graduated from Oakley High School 
Class of 1956. For college, she graduated from Loretto Heights Academy 
near Denver, Colorado. She retired from IBM after 33 years of service, 
where she worked on numerous technologies that changed our daily lives. 
Early in her career, she was a proponent who fought for equal pay for 
women and racial equality in hiring. She was heavily involved in 
charitable work and the Catholic church. As one of the founding members 
of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Austin, Texas, she founded 
the high school youth group. She served on numerous committees, 
including building the church and new parish hall. Dee was an active 
Dame of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, where she achieved 
the highest promotion to Lady of the Grand Cross. Serving an 
organization that she loved, she is a past State Regent of the Catholic 
Daughters of the Americas. In 2019, the Diocese of Austin awarded her 
the Lumen Gentium Award. She donated not only her time, but her wealth. 
Dee gifted the church many items such as the grand piano, the 
audio-visual system, and numerous pieces of artwork. She had a passion 
for sports, charitable giving, cultural activities, entertainment, 
family, and the sanctity of life. Preceding her in death was her 
father, Gabriel Scheetz, her mother, Bernadine (Ecclesfield) Scheetz, 
and her brothers, Bernard, Richard, and Philip Scheetz. Surviving
 Dee is her son Chris Scheetz, brother Dennis Scheetz and his wife 
Phyllis (Ostmeyer) Scheetz, sister-in-law Sally Scheetz, nieces, and 
nephews, Melissa (Scheetz) Romme, Mary Ann (Scheetz) Rabe, Stanley 
Scheetz, Kathy (Scheetz) Davis, Sherry (Scheetz) DiGiovanni, as well as 
their spouses and children along with an abundance of dear friends. A
 visitation, vigil, and rosary for Dee will be held Monday, April 10, 
2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral 
Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A funeral 
mass will occur Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 10:00 am, at St Albert the 
Great Catholic Church, 12041 Bittern Hollow, Austin, TX 78758. After, 
she will be transported to Oakley, Kansas. In Oakley, KS, a 
visitation, vigil, and rosary will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, 
from 5 pm to 8 pm, vigil at 7 pm at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, 217 
Freeman Ave, Oakley, KS 67748. On Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10 am the
 funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 625 Freeman 
Ave Oakley, KS 67748. Fr. Luke Thielen will be officiating with burial 
to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Instead of flowers, we ask that donations be made to St. Joseph's School in Oakley, Kansas, or the ALS Association.

Roy Lee McFrederick, 74, passed away on March 29, 2023, at University
 of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kan. He was 
born on March 1, 1949, in Wichita, Kan., to Roy Lewis and Josephine Mary
 (Chan) McFrederick.

An area resident of Ellinwood and Great Bend coming from Wichita, Roy
 worked as a mechanical engineer. He was a veteran of the United States 
Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Roy was a member of Prince of 
Peace Parish – St. Rose of Lima Church and VFW, and enjoyed watching 
T.V., collecting DVDs, and especially loved his dogs.

Survivors include a son, Adrien McFrederick of Hume, Mo.; three 
sisters, Ruth McFredrick of St. John, Kan., Sr. Amy McFrederick of South
 Bend, Ind., and Nita (Randy) Trantham of Leeds, Ala.; nieces and 
nephews, John, Stephanie, Leslie, Terri, Billy, Chaz, Audrey, Michael, 
Brigette, and Mark. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, 
William “Bill” McFrederick; and infant sisters, Mary Evangeline and Rita
 Jane.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Funeral 
services will be held at a later date. Memorials have been designated to
 the Dominican Sisters of Peace, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Roy Lee McFrederick

Phillipsburg resident Lois Ann Haas passed away Tuesday, April 4, 
2023, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Lois was born on August 7, 1954, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, to Milo and Norma (Stevens) Gitchel.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents Milo and Norma, brothers Allan and Elbert Gitchel, and sister Kathy Willis.

Survivors include her husband Larry Haas of Phillipsburg, daughters 
Eula Runnion and husband Brian of Wichita, Kansas, and Monica Wagner and
 husband Wade of Smith Center, Kansas, brother Delbert Gitchel of 
Wilcox, Nebraska, sister Eileen Branstetter of Salina, Kansas, 
brother-in-law Dennis Willis of Smith Center, and her faithful dog 
Missy.

A funeral service for Lois will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, 
10:30 a.m., at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, with 
Pastor Bud Gillett and Pastor Jay Brandon officiating.

Lois will lie in-state on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday

The Rev. Robert M. Ziegler, 88 years old, longtime Pastor for Trinity 
Lutheran Church, was called to his heavenly home following the early 
service on Sunday, April 2, 2023. 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 
the Trinity Lutheran Church, 603 N. Eighth St, Atchison, KS. Graveside
 services and burial will be held at 3:30 pm Tuesday, at the Vesta 
Cemetery, Vesta, NE. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 
10th, 2023, starting at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran 
School Gymnasium. Pastor Ziegler will lie in state at the church one 
hour prior to services on Tuesday.

 to the Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Fund, the Trinity Lutheran 
Church Endowment Fund, the TLC Mission Endowment Fund, or the Trinity

Robert M. Ziegler was born on April 14, 1934, in Vesta, NE the son of 
Robert M. and Esther J. (Jobst) Ziegler. He went to grade school and 
high school in Vesta, NE. He was called by the Lord to enter the 
Ministry and attended St. John’s Lutheran Academy and College, Winfield,
 KS. He then attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. He completed
 his work at the seminary and served his vicarage at Our Savior’s 
Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota. He was ordained on July 19, 1959
 and served at Zion Lutheran Church, Claflin, KS for ten years. He 
received and accepted a call to Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison and 
was installed as Pastor on September 14, 1969. During this period of 
time he had served as vacancy pastor in seven different congregations; 
Russell, Ellinwood, Hoisington, Lyons, Holyrood, Nortonville, and 
Wathena, KS. He had served as Circuit Counselor for the Great Bend and 
Atchison Circuits and served several years as a member of the Kansas 
District Board of Directors LCMS. Pastor Ziegler had also worked as a 
chaplain at Valley Hope Treatment Center, Atchison KS from 1971-1988. 
Pastor Ziegler enjoyed attending musical programs, a Christmas Carol, 
the KC Renaissance Festival, any kind of lecture, all things Husker, and
 was an avid reader and learner. 
He was married to Esther Johnson on October 18, 1959, in Claflin, KS. 
Esther preceded him in death on June 25th, 2000. After many years Pastor
 Ziegler was married to Charlotte (Pinnt) Teuscher on April 17, 2020. 
They had been college classmates at St. John’s College and found each 
other at a class reunion. Charlotte survives of the home.

survivors include a son Andrew Ziegler, Cleveland OH, two daughters Anne
 (Preston) Compton, Elgin, SC, and Allison (Ron) Arends, Melvin, IL 
son-in-law Rick Williams, Cleveland, OH,  two sisters Nancy Nelson, 
Marcus, IA and Virginia Thomas, Beatrice, NE, seven grandchildren and 
one great grandchild, five step children, Terri McLean, Dallas, TX, Tom 
Teuscher, Springfield, MO, Tracy Lawson, Eldorado, KS, Tamara Morin, 
Leawood, KS, and Ted Teuscher, Lenexa, KS, fourteen step grandchildren, 
thirty three step great grandchildren and one step great great 
grandchild, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Rev. Robert M. Ziegler

Jerry D. Stupka, of Trenton, Neb., was born August 10, 1938, on a farm 
north of Stratton to Mary (Sis) and William Stupka. He attended country 
school and Stratton (Neb.) High School.&nbsp;

On May 28, 1959, Jerry married 
Rita Janousek at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton, Nebraska, of 
which he later became a member. Three children were born to this union. 
Jerry and Rita built a rich life together in Trenton. Jerry and Rita 
enjoyed their travels to visit friends and family across the country and
 were blessed to journey to Mexico, Canada, the Czech Republic, and 
Ireland. Jerry loved the soup in Ireland.&nbsp;

Jerry was active in 
community affairs and served on the Trenton Fire Department, Trenton 
Village Board, and the El Dorado Nursing Home Board. At the time of his 
death, he was serving on the Hitchcock County Museum Board, the Court 
Street Villa Board, and the Trenton Planning Commission.

Jerry 
wore many hats during his lifetime, including farmer, service station 
owner, over-the-road truck driver, oil field worker, and grocery store 
owner. Collecting and restoring John Deere was a passion for many years.
 He loved dogs, especially his special pal, Brandi the border collie. He
 was an excellent mechanic and an accomplished welder. He was able to 
repair nearly anything.

Jerry passed away at his home in Trenton on Sunday April 2, 2023. He was 84 years of age.

He
 was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and William; and 
sister, Irene Maybell. Surviving are his wife, Rita; sons, Scott 
(Brenda) of Anselmo, Nebraska and Stuart (Melissa) of Hays, Kansas; 
daughter Stacy of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren: Brandon of Greeley, 
Colorado, Danielle Gilligan (Tyler) of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Keenan of 
Anselmo, Kassandra Speer of Long Island, Kansas, Kelsey Schoen (Jason) 
of Hays, and Cecilia and Tristan Burda of Lincoln; eleven 
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Jerry 
never met a stranger, he had a keen sense of humor and loved to laugh 
and joke with friends and family. He was a favorite person of many and 
we shall miss him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, 
April 9, 2023, from 5PM-7PM at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton.&nbsp; A 
rosary will be recited following the visitation at 7PM.

Mass of 
Christian burial will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 
St. James Catholic Church in Trenton with Father Gary Brethour 
celebrating.&nbsp; Interment will follow services in St. Cemetery in Trenton.
