Gloria Long, mother of 7, grandmother of 20, and great grandmother of
 31, won her battle with dementia when she passed away on Thursday, April
 13, 2023.

Gloria was born on April 8, 1931, to Dan and Mollie Sader, in north 
Wichita County.&nbsp; She grew up in the Wichita County community and lived 
her entire life in Leoti.&nbsp; If asked she would say she never wanted to 
live anywhere else. &nbsp;

Gloria met Jim Long while working at the dress shop in Leoti, and 
they married on September 16, 1950.&nbsp; They would go on to be married 61 
years and were blessed with 7 children. &nbsp; Jim had a trucking business 
and after raising the children, Gloria opened the local fabric store, 
The Sewing Box, with her long time friend Marge Elder.&nbsp; After all the 
children graduated from WCHS, and the fabric store closed, Gloria filled
 her time quilting and playing bridge as well as volunteering at the 
community thrift store and working in the kitchen at the WC Long Term 
Care center.&nbsp; She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the 
local quilt guild.&nbsp; She loved having her children and grandchildren 
visit and they loved it when she would make her famous fried chicken, 
fritters and bierocks.&nbsp; She made life fun and wonderful for all of them.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, brother Charles Sader, 
brother Roger Gee, son-in-law Larry Appel and daughter-in-law Sandy 
Long. &nbsp;

She is survived by son Steve (Patricia) Garden City, daughter Bonnie 
Appel, Tennessee, daughter Mary (Neal) Mazer, Albuquerque, son 
Jim (Jeanne) Long, Houston, son Todd (Diana) Long, Leoti, daughter 
Lori (Eric) Batman, Tennessee and son Roger Long, Colorado.&nbsp; Also 
surviving are 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 
brother-in-law Hugh(Judy) Long, Newton.

Memorial services will be Friday April 21, 2023, at 10:30 at the 
United Methodist Church, pastor Tod Anthony officiating.&nbsp; There will be a
 luncheon at the church following the graveside services at the Leoti 
cemetery.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be written to the Wichita County Long Term Care Center.

Clayton Turman, 57, of Norton, KS passed away March 31, 2023, at the 
Norton County Hospital. He was born October 9, 1965, in Oakley, KS to 
Earl and Carol (Clinkenbeard) Turman.

Clayton attended Hinkley 
High School in Aurora, CO and later received his GED. He worked as a 
truck driver for Wesco feed. Clayton loved inappropriate poems and 
crafts and enjoyed yard work and collecting pigs. Most of all he loved 
spoiling Levi and playing chess with him and he loved his pugs and Juno.

Clayton
 was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amanda Turman and 
siblings, Larry “Woody” Wood and Lori Wood-Pinzenscham. He is survived 
by his son, Calob Turman of Norton, KS; siblings, Daina (Jimmy) Knutson 
of Loveland, CO, Darroll (Jenny) Wood of Byers, CO, Brad (Alaina) Smith 
of Las Angeles, CA, Deena Breeden of Greeley, CO, and Shawn Schock of 
Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Levi “Boog” and Elijah, and his ex-wife, 
Belinda Turman.

Cremation was chosen. A Celebration of Life will 
be held at 2:00 pm April 20th, in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Almena, KS.

Clayton Turman

Janice Lucille (Kroeger) Hadley, 83, of rural Ellis, Kansas passed 
away Friday, April 14, 2023, at Trego Lemke Memorial Long Term Care in 
WaKeeney, Kansas, where she had been a resident the past year.  She was 
born on August 20, 1939, to Henry and Agnes (Heroneme) Kroeger in Hays, 
Kansas.  Janice graduated from Trego Community High School in 1957.

On
 June 4, 1957, Janice was united in marriage to Keith Hadley at St. 
John’s Lutheran Church, rural Ellis, Kansas, and they were married just 
shy of 66 years.  Together they raised three children.  Janice enjoyed 
her farm life as a homemaker, she was an excellent cook, and was 
especially talented at crafts, sewing and quilting.  She was a member of
 Ogallah Friendly Dozen and Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis.  
Janice touched many lives through the years with her wisdom and quiet 
nature.

Janice is survived by her husband, Keith of the
 home; daughter Karen Howland (Jim) of rural Ellis, Kansas; sons, Kelly 
Hadley of Huntsville, Alabama; and Evan Hadley (Rhonda) of Hays, Kansas;
 grandchildren, Cody Howland (Becky), rural Palco, Kansas; Kate Howland,
 rural Palco, Kansas; Jennifer McDaniel (Jason), Gallatin, Tennessee; 
Chase Hadley, Portland, Tennessee; Kelsea Roberts (Joey), Birmingham, 
Alabama; Jessica Brazda (Brad), Salina, Kansas; Kyle Hadley (Katherine),
 Hays, Kansas.  Great-grandchildren, Jaxin and Morgan Howland; Liam and 
Rory McDaniel; Brady and Brendan Hadley; Hadlee, Jace and Jett Brazda 
and two great grandchildren due this fall; sister, Carole Hasenkamp 
(Stanley) of Beattie, Kansas and sister-in-law, Maralene Balthazor, 
Wichita, Kansas; five nieces and two nephews, many cousins and friends. 
 She was preceded in death by both parents, a nephew, John Hasenkamp and
 brother-in-law, Arthur Balthazor.

Funeral service will
 be held at the Christ Lutheran Church, 106 E 8th Street, Ellis, Kansas 
67637, Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. with visitation at the 
church from 9 a.m. to service time.  Burial will follow the service at 
Pleasantview Cemetery, Palco, Kansas.

Janice Lucille (Kroeger) Hadley

Janis Elouise Brack, 77, passed away April 14, 2023, at the 
University of Kansas Health System-Great Bend Campus. She was born 
December 22, 1945, at Hoisington, to Bryan &amp; Sadie (Kaufman) 
Stalcup.

A lifetime area resident, Janis was a homemaker and managed Stop 2 
Shop in Hoisington for many years. She enjoyed tending to her flower 
gardens, traveling, puzzles, and the challenge of a good crossword 
puzzle. Janis especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, three daughters, Shannon King and husband Greg and
 Sherri Brack both of Great Bend and Sandra Brack and wife Tammy of 
McPherson; a brother in law, George Benedick of Decatur, Tex.; two 
grandchildren, Morgan King and husband Cody Schridde and Ryan King; two 
great grandchildren, River Schridde and Fisher Schridde; and many nieces
 and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, 
Glen Stalcup and Farrell Stalcup; three sisters, Lorraine Miller, 
Darlene Benedick and Jeanetta Deutsch; and her long time companion, Ed 
Peterson.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023, 
at Great Bend Cemetery North with Pastor Lacey Bonine presiding.

Cleta Mae Herren was born April 5, 1936, to Joseph and Clara (Mazanek) 
Vacura. She passed away April 13, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center, 
Colby, KS, at the age of 87 years and 8 days. 
She attended the local country school, District No. 33 Jackson, in 
Jennings Township. Cleta attended Jennings Rural High School and 
graduated from Decatur Community High School, Oberlin, in 1953. 
On August 26, 1956, Cleta married Claude Herren at the Jennings 
Methodist Church. They made their home on the Herren family farm south 
of Colby, with their son, Roger. 
Cleta was a long-time member of the Colby Royal Neighbors and Rebecca 
Lodges and a member of the First Christian Church of Colby. She enjoyed 
being a farm wife, homemaker, gardener, mother, and grandmother. Cleta 
also loved spending time with family, friends and neighbors and was 
always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. 
Cleta was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of nearly 56 years. 
Survivors include her son, Roger Herren, of Colby, KS; grandson, Gavin 
Herren, of Goodland, KS; brother Dean (Dorothy) Vacura, of Jennings, KS;
 three nephews, Bill (Amy) Vacura, Norton, KS, Brad (Jody) Vacura, Point
 of Rocks, MD and Blake (Crystal) Vacura, Omaha, NE; four great nephews 
and four great nieces. 
Visitation is 4-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary,
 Colby. The Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday,

Cynthia Darlene Schetrom, age 62 years, lifelong Great Bend, Kansas 
resident, passed away on Thursday afternoon, April 13, 2023, at 
Diversicare of Larned in Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; 

“Cindy” was born on August 7, 
1960, at Delhart, Texas, to James and Anna May (Raybern) Walker.&nbsp; She 
provided child care from her home and dearly loved her nieces, nephews, 
great-nieces and great-nephews.&nbsp; Cindy also loved her coffee and 
cigarettes.

Survivors include three brothers:&nbsp; Michael Bradley (&amp; Angie) 
Kramer of Larned, Kansas, Ross (&amp; Jennifer) Kramer of Kansas City, 
Kansas, and Billy Ray Morrison of Hays, Kansas; three sisters:&nbsp; Becky 
Lloyd of Larned, Kansas, Sandra Thompson and Rose Lind, both of Hays, 
Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cynthia Darlene Schetrom

Kenneth Burdette “Ken” Stueve, 90, passed away April 12, 2023, at 
Stoney Brook of Copperas Cove, TX. &nbsp;He was born on October 14, 1932, in 
Wisner, NE, to Otto &amp; Gertrude (Schulz) Stueve. He married Agnes 
Stoecklein September 13, 1958, in Great Bend, KS.&nbsp;

A longtime Great Bend resident, Ken worked at Halliburton and Welex 
prior to taking a position as a supervisor at Fuller Brush and then the 
terminal manager for Terra Chemical. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran
 Church in Great Bend, American Legion Post #180, and the Central Kansas
 Coyote Hunters Association. He served as an Army Sergeant in the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War.

There wasn’t much Ken could not do.&nbsp; From welding, to woodwork, he 
could repair anything that needed fixing, make jerky, sauerkraut, and 
salsa.&nbsp; A born storyteller he could spin a few tales from time to time 
and entertain anyone who would listen.&nbsp; Ken was a champion marksman at 
black powder rendezvous events, loved fishing, hunting, camping, taking 
care of his lawn and garden.

His ninety plus years of this earthly life were guided by his faith 
and trust in God. He had a resilient faith in Jesus Christ, and it 
showed in how he took care of anyone who needed extra help, his constant
 daily prayers, how he handled close personal and family losses, and 
most of all how he raised his children.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Agnes Stueve of the home; daughter Susan 
Tyson (Kim) of Copperas Cove, TX;&nbsp; and son, Vincent Stueve (Holly) of 
Round Rock, TX; eight grandchildren, Dustain Stueve (Susan), Sallie 
Stueve, Trista Taylor (Ty), Augustus Stueve (Kristen), Matthew Leach, 
Nicholas Tyson (Alexis), Rose Stueve and Wyatt Stueve; five great

Stoney Brook of Copperas Cove, TX. &nbsp;He was born on October 14, 1932, in 
Wisner, NE, to Otto &amp; Gertrude (Schulz) Stueve. He married Agnes 
Stoecklein September 13, 1958, in Great Bend, KS.&nbsp;A longtime Great Bend resident, Ken worked at Halliburton and Welex 
prior to taking a position as a supervisor at Fuller Brush and then the 
terminal manager for Terra Chemical. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran
 Church in Great Bend, American Legion Post #180, and the Central Kansas
 Coyote Hunters Association. He served as an Army Sergeant in the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War.There wasn’t much Ken could not do.&nbsp; From welding, to woodwork, he 
could repair anything that needed fixing, make jerky, sauerkraut, and 
salsa.&nbsp; A born storyteller he could spin a few tales from time to time 
and entertain anyone who would listen.&nbsp; Ken was a champion marksman at 
black powder rendezvous events, loved fishing, hunting, camping, taking 
care of his lawn and garden.His ninety plus years of this earthly life were guided by his faith 
and trust in God. He had a resilient faith in Jesus Christ, and it 
showed in how he took care of anyone who needed extra help, his constant
 daily prayers, how he handled close personal and family losses, and 
most of all how he raised his children.&nbsp;Survivors include his wife Agnes Stueve of the home; daughter Susan 
Tyson (Kim) of Copperas Cove, TX;&nbsp; and son, Vincent Stueve (Holly) of 
Round Rock, TX; eight grandchildren, Dustain Stueve (Susan), Sallie 
Stueve, Trista Taylor (Ty), Augustus Stueve (Kristen), Matthew Leach, 
Nicholas Tyson (Alexis), Rose Stueve and Wyatt Stueve; five great 
grandchildren, Graede, Brooks and Regaen Taylor, Peyton Wells and Kami

Kenneth Burdette 'Ken' Stueve

Patrick Andrew “Pat” Seeman, 83, passed away April 13, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Pat was born November 23, 1939, the oldest of 6 children, to Junior 
and Maudie (Hill) Seeman in Larned, KS. He attended a country school 
north of Larned close to his family farm. Later, he lived with his 
grandparents while attending Larned High School, graduating in 1957.

Pat received track and football scholarships to Garden City Community
 College. Shortly before graduating, a new coach at Garden City 
Community College recruited him to play at Oklahoma State University. 
However, the National Guard called him to serve. He spent several months
 at Ft. Smith in Arkansas. He later attended 1 year at Fort Hays State 
University. He met and married Laurie Niedens, they were married for 
over 56 years, later divorcing.

Pat began his long banking career with BIC in Great Bend, KS. He was 
transferred around the state as he worked his way up. In 1976, he was 
hired by the First State Bank of Larned and was able to return to his 
home town as a loan officer, primarily focusing on ag lending.

He enjoyed over 20 years of refereeing football and basketball. Pat 
was an avid hunter and trapper, actually being appointed by the State of
 Kansas to trap nuisance animals. He spent time volunteering with 
Pheasants Forever.

After his retirement, Pat spent years attending Carr Auctions buying 
and collecting antiques, particularly enjoying art glass and pottery.

He is survived by: two children, Shellie Thill, husband David, of 
Bella Vista, AR, Michael Seeman and wife Leigh Anne of Larned, KS; four 
grandchildren and three step grandchildren: Emilie Thill, fiancé Brad 
Carlson, Kansas City, MO, Ashlie Nevola, husband Dylan, Kansas City, MO,
 Thomas Thill, wife Haley, Derby, KS, Katie Carlton, husband Brian, 
Larned, KS, Tyler Stelter, Orlando, FL, Megan Stelter, Salina, KS, and 
Jack Stelter, Manhattan, KS; two great grandchildren, Emmett and Jocee 
Carlton, Larned, KS; two brothers, Steven (Michelle) Seeman, Larned, KS,
 Mark (Becky) Seeman, Salina, KS; two sisters Jody (Don) Crosby, Diamond

Genevieve O. “Geneva” Wendler, 91, passed away April 13, 2023, at 
Good Samaritan in Olathe, Kan. She was born November 9, 1931, in Bazine,
 to Joseph &amp; Clara (Werth) Stoecklein. She married Anthony “Toney” 
Wendler August 8, 1949, in Ness City. He died March 3, 1981.

A longtime area resident, Geneva was a CNA for 35 years at Central 
Kansas Medical Center and at Great Bend Manor. She also worked in the 
Walmart Deli department for several years. She was known for her 
seamstress abilities. She enjoyed all sports and loved to follow her 
grandchildren around to their events. Genevieve especially loved 
spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her daughter, Lora Olivier and husband Bob of 
Gardner; two brothers, Earl Stoecklein and Tom Stoecklein, both of Ness 
City; five grandchildren, Angie Olivier Kramer (Michael), Trent Olivier 
(Kala), Alicia Wendler, Aaron Wendler (Jill) and Mark Wendler; a 
grandson in law, Jered Gorney; ten great grandchildren, Jeryn Gorney, 
Ian Gorney, Cade Olivier, Cole Olivier, Jeramie Kramer, Jordan Kramer,

Mass of Christian burial for Leon A. Romme, 77, Lawrence was held at 
10 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2023, St. John Catholic Church in Lawrence.&nbsp; &nbsp;
 Leon passed peacefully March 1, 2023, at LMH Health in Lawrence.

Leon was born September 2, 1945, in Victoria, Kansas, the son of Ray and Magdalena (Kuhn) Romme.

Leon began working for EMR, Inc. as a Project Manager in 1991 in 
Lawrence until the company transferred him to Fort Worth, TX. in 1997. 
Upon his retirement in 2016, Leon and Jolene moved back to Lawrence to be
 close to family.

Leon was proud of his service as a United States Marine and served 
during Vietnam. He was his son’s and their friend’s Biggest Fan.&nbsp; He was
 extremely proud that his two sons had the opportunity to play for the 
storied Lawrence High Football program.

He was an avid sports fan.&nbsp; He enjoyed NASCAR, playing cards and 
dominos, wood working and yardwork. He was very proud of his lawn!

His passion for dogs was evident with his three Boxers (Buster, Gordy
 &amp; Deuce) which gave him joy.&nbsp; He was a reader and loved and 
practiced his Catholic Faith.

Leon married Jolene Steinbacher on September 18, 1971, in Great Bend, KS.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Bradley and Brett Romme both of 
Lawrence, KS, his sister Dolores Schmeidler of Hays, KS; several 
brother-in-law’s and sister -in-law’s and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was 
preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Vera 
and Paul Schmidtberger who helped raise him, his brothers, Robert, 
Thomas and Donald; his nephews, Steven Schmidtberger and Thomas Romme, 
Jr. and several brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s.

Leon loved his immediate family, his extended family, and his 
friends.&nbsp; There is nothing he would not do for them when someone was in 
need.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, 
at Great Bend Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the United 
States Marines.

Raymond Kent Frick, 69, passed away April 10, 2023, in Topeka, Kansas.

He was born July 30, 1953, in Larned, the son of Raymond George and Alma Mae Debes Frick.

A lifetime area resident he was a farmer-rancher and a member of 
Larned United Methodist Church. He attended Zook Consolidated School 
until the 6th grade and graduated from Larned High School in 
1971. He was a member of Garfield Lions Club and Garfield COOP Board. He
 was one of the first members of the Pawnee County Fair Board and was 
instrumental in the construction of the fair buildings. Kent was a 4-H 
supporter, member and project leader of the Zook Zippers 4-H club. He 
enjoyed helping with livestock sales, shooting sports and the bucket 
calf project. He was a Pheasants Forever committee member and instructed
 hunter’s safety courses. Kent was a lifetime hunter and traveled to 
various states to hunt deer, elk, antelope, and bear. He had a passion 
for the land and farming which he shared with his children and 
grandchildren. Kent loved attending his kid’s and grandchildren’s 
sporting events and livestock shows.

On May 11, 1974, he married Karen Kay Fyler at Larned; she survives.

Other survivors include: four children, Dr. Christina Frick (Brent 
Maxwell), their children, Grayson, Kole and Addison Maxwell, Larned, 
Melissa (Matt) Brossard, their children, Harley and Carter Brossard, 
Topeka, Kurtis (Holly) Frick, their children, Chayse, Kaden and Paisley 
Frick, Larned, and Audra (Dustin) Geiger, their children, Natalie and

Raymond Kent Frick

Gregory “Greg” Edward Mott, of Stockton, KS, passed away peacefully 
surrounded by family on April 10, 2023, at the age of 52 after a brief 
illness. He was born on April 27, 1970, in Rockford, IL to Thomas and 
Judy (Olson) Mott.

Greg grew up in Rockford and 
graduated from Boylan High School, Class of 1988. Greg played on 
Boylan’s football and basketball teams and was selected to the NIC-10 
All-Conference football teams his junior and senior years. Following 
high school, Greg attended the University of Iowa and Colorado State 
University. He then decided to follow in his father’s footsteps into the
 wholesale supply business, working his way up to Industrial Sales 
Manager for Ferguson Enterprises Inc. He spent over 20 years working 
for Ferguson before moving on to his dream job of owning his own

restaurant and named it Mott’s Steak &amp; Chop. Greg worked 
tirelessly on the restaurant for the past couple years before he passed 
away.

Greg was an accomplished bow and rifle hunter who
 enjoyed countless hunting excursions with his friends to Africa, 
Canada, and throughout the United States. He was even featured on the No
 Limits Hunting TV program where he bow-hunted black bear. If “Tiny” 
wasn’t hunting, you could find him with his friends on the ranch in 
Fairplay, CO, where he spent many weekends helping out with ranch duties
 during the day and living it up at night. Greg also enjoyed skiing, 
fishing, golfing, and cooking. Greg’s nephews meant the world to him. He
 would brag about their sports accomplishments to everyone who would 
listen. He and his father Tom, aka Grandpa M, are now their #1 fans in 
the VIP section in heaven.

In his 52 years, Greg blazed
 his own trail through life living every minute to the fullest. We are 
fortunate there are so many legendary stories about “Mott” that will 
last a lifetime. He was the life of the party and the leader of “The 
Mott Squad." We will always remember his humor and unmatched ability to 
tell a story. To say Greg will be missed by his family and friends is an
 understatement.

Greg is survived by his mother, Judy, 
of Rockford, IL; his three sisters, Sarah (John) Zilinskas and Kelly 
(Jeremy) Aldrich of Denver, CO, Melissa (Tyler) Smith of Portland, OR; 
nephews, Gus, Hank, &amp; Ned Zilinskas and Henry Aldrich.

He is 
preceded in death by his father, Tom, uncle Merritt, his grandparents, 
and his beloved animals, horses (Cash and Dakota) and dog (Duke).

starting in Stockton, KS (May 17), Denver, CO (May 21) and Rockford, IL

high school, Greg attended the University of Iowa and Colorado State 
University. He then decided to follow in his father’s footsteps into the
 wholesale supply business, working his way up to Industrial Sales 
Manager for Ferguson Enterprises Inc. He spent over 20 years working 
for Ferguson before moving on to his dream job of owning his own 
restaurant. In 2021, Greg moved to Stockton, Kansas, to open a

Verlin Jay Bell

John D. Snedden, also known as "JD”, son of John D. 
Snedden Sr. and Evelyn V. (Hobbie) Snedden, was born on February 28, 1939,&nbsp; in Osborne, KS. He went to be with our Lord on April 11, 2023.

He grew up in Beloit, KS and graduated from Beloit High School. After
 graduation he joined the Navy. He served his country from November 
14, 1957, until October 30, 1961. His duties were served on the USS 
Currituck. His occupation was Hydrualics Assembler.

On March 26, 1960, he married Janet Heidrick and later divorced. To 
this union 4 children were born. Daughters; Chris (JB) File, Gina 
(Robert) Chitty, Kimberly Kay, (deceased) and a son, Shannon.

During his lifetime, he drove a truck for 7-up in Beloit, and a local 
Co-op in Beloit. He worked for Archer Daniel Midland, ADM, as a welder, 
in Salina, and retired for about 6 months and went work for Ellsworth 
Correctional Facility, as a guard. He also did a short stint as a guard 
at the Minneapolis jail.

JD’s favorite pastime hobbies were hunting with his cousins in Smith 
Center, and fishing with his son and a couple friends out in Assaria. 
Making furniture was also something he liked doing. He also liked going 
to our local racetrack once in a while. He attended several cooking 
seminars and was a great cook.

He married Carol Snedden on June 23, 1983.&nbsp; Rob McKown was also brought into his family at that time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kimberly; 
brothers, Frank (George), and Larry, and father-in-law Max Slothower.

He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters, Chris (JB) File, Gina 
(Robert) Chitt; son, Shannon (Kelly) Snedden and stepson Rob McKown; a 
sister, Nancy Heiman and 7 grand kids, and 6 great grandkids and a host 
of nieces, nephews and friends and family.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, 
April 17, 2023, at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. 
Inurnment will be in the All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina. 

Memorials

John D. 'JD' Snedden

William Frederick Schick, son of Max and Norma (Wagner) Schick was 
born at the Phillips County Hospital August 10, 1955.&nbsp; He passed away on
 April 10, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 67.

He was baptized August 28, 1955, and confirmed May 17, 1970, in the 
Lutheran faith at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Stuttgart where he 
currently was a member.

He graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1973, 
Barton County Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in 
1975, Fort Hays State University with a Bachelors of Music in 1978 and 
Fort Hays State University with a Masters of Music in 1979.

After graduating from Fort Hays State University, he taught 
instrumental music at Plainville for 21 years. His last four years at 
Plainville he also taught high school and seventh grade vocal music. 
During these 21 years at Plainville he sponsored the Crimson Cardinal 
Dance Team. His 1993 and 1999 bands were selected to perform in the 
Citrus Bowl Parade at Orlando, Florida.&nbsp; William then had the 
opportunity to move back home to Phillipsburg where he served as band 
director for 19 years.&nbsp; He looked forward to taking the bands to the 
State Fair at Hutchinson every year where they were awarded first 
division ratings for at least 22 consecutive years.&nbsp; 

William enjoyed 
teaching from fifth to twelfth grade and watching the student’s progress
 as musicians and young adults.&nbsp;&nbsp; His favorite times were teaching in 
the classroom, the concerts and the fifth graders excitement in being 
able to play Mary Had A Little Lamb for the first time.&nbsp; William taught 
music to hundreds of students and enjoyed seeing them succeed at contest
 or being selected for various honor groups.&nbsp; He was just as happy for a
 student receiving a two or three rating as he was for the first 
division ratings.&nbsp; William served as guest conductor or woodwind 
instructor for many honor bands and taught for many years at the Hal 
Palmer High Plains Band Camp.&nbsp; He was director of the Chime Choir at 
Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Stuttgart and First Lutheran Church, 
Plainville and sang with the choirs. He served as a guide and conductor 
for the C &amp; R Railroad Museum, Phillipsburg. &nbsp;He held memberships in
 the following organizations: Phi Beta Mu, national band directors 
fraternity: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, professional music fraternity; Kansas
 Music Educators Association, where he served as President for the 
Northwest District chaired numerous district events and served two years
 on the state board; Music Educators National Conference; Kansas 
Bandmasters Association; National Educators Association; Barton County 
Community College Alumni Association and a lifetime member of the Fort 
Hays State University Alumni Association. 

His most recent honor was 
being inducted into the KMEA Hall of Fame in 2021. In 2023, a ceremony 
was held at Phillipsburg High School to permanently hang his picture and
 plaque to commemorate this accomplishment. William retired from 
teaching in 2019 but continued to substitute teach in the Phillipsburg 
and Logan school districts until his time of death.

William enjoyed being active in his church, spending time at the shop and attending his nieces and nephews activities.

William is survived by his parents, two brothers Merlyn and Steven 
Schick of Phillipsburg, two sisters Anita Powell and her husband Joel of
 Colby, Nancy Jenner and her husband Mike of Prairie View, three nephews
 Travis Powell and his wife Athena of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Trenton 
Powell and his wife Ashley of LeMars, Iowa, Trevor Jenner and his wife 
Nichole of Phillipsburg; four nieces Tara Powell of Salina, Trista Cline
 and her husband Brandon of Derby, Tori Jenner of Overland Park and Toni
 Jenner of Wichita; three great nieces Madison and Molly Powell of 
LeMars, Iowa, Callista Powell of Wheat Ridge, Colorado and two great 
nephews Nolan and Ryan Cline of Derby.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the 
Huck Boyd Community Center, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lee Bennight 
officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve 
Memorial Chapel Facebook page.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Emmanuel 
Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Stuttgart.

Mr. Schick will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. 
to 9 p.m. Friday in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with
 the family receiving friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for

Daniel Leroy Bixenman was born on October 12, 1950, in Denver, CO. At 
age five, Dan found himself in St. Joseph’s Orphanage in El Dorado, KS 
with his siblings. In 1958, he and his three siblings were adopted by 
Bob and Mary Helen Bixenman. That was his introduction to farm life, on 
the family place near Levant, KS. The remaining years of Dan’s life 
would be centered in and around Thomas County. 
Dan spent time in the service, both in the United States Navy and 
Air Force, but always returned home. It was a full life he lived in 
Northwest Kansas. He worked as a farm hand and a harvest hand for 
several local farmers. He worked for the railroad and on oil rigs. He 
also painted houses. Dan had one short marriage and a longer deep 
friendship with his ex-wife. Dan became sober and at his death had been 
30+ years sober. 
Dan ultimately found his home at Sacred Heart Parish, in Colby. He 
worked in the Parish for years, both in the school and in the church. 
Parish life was a touchstone for him. The Parish supported and cared for
 him, and in turn, he made important contributions to the Parish. 
Dan died peacefully on Thursday morning, April 13, 2023, at the age of 
72. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Mary Helen and his 
sister Pauline. He is survived by his sister Maureen; his brother Louis;
 numerous cousins and many good friends. 
The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 6:00 
p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. A Memorial 
Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2023, at Sacred 
Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with inurnment in the church cemetery.

Daniel Leroy Bixenman

Galen Duane Smith, 81, Hill City, Kansas, passed away April 9, 2023, 
in Hill City, with his family present. Galen was the youngest of three 
children born February 18, 1942, in Hill City to Lee and Maggie (Post) 
Smith.  He attended the local schools and graduated from Hill City High 
School.

After graduation, Galen went to work doing small jobs with 
his dad and quickly worked his way into a position learning electrical 
work so he could become a lineman. He soon met his bride-to-be, Mary 
Scott, at a small-town dance in Lenora. He spoke many times of the trips
 he made from Hill City to Lenora to see her, laughing about his 
speeding there in either his smoking old Oldsmobile or on his 
motorcycle.

Galen and Mary were married September 27, 1959, in 
Norton. Their first child, James, was born in 1960 and Joseph arrived in
 1963. Galen moved his family into parts of Colorado, Western Kansas, 
and Nebraska where he worked building and helping supply power lines 
across rural areas to several communities. In 1965, their daughter 
Jennifer was born in Hill City. A year later their daughter Julie was 
born. The family moved to Clifton, Colorado, to be closer to Mary’s 
family. Galen worked as a cabinet maker and on a local drilling rig. 
After returning to Hill City, Galen went to work for the city. Then he 
worked for a local electrical company putting his lineman experience to 
use. As the need for electrical work slowed down in the area, Galen took
 a job in the oilfield checking pumping units for local oil companies. 
With the birth of their son Jason in 1974, their family was complete. 
Galen remained in Hill City working as a contract pumper until his 
retirement.

Galen had a zest for life. Keeping busy was the key to
 his happiness. He was always there to help his children and 
grandchildren with anything from pulling them in wagons, teaching them 
to ride a bike, to helping and showing them how to fix just about 
everything. A hobby he enjoyed was woodworking. He took the time to 
build small projects as gifts for several of his grandchildren. His love
 for fishing and hunting was passed down to the following generations. 
He especially loved seeing his grandchildren’s first cast of a fishing 
pole and walking in line with the boys on pheasant hunts. He looked 
forward to morning coffee with his friends, just so they could share the
 stories of the good old days. Galen always had a kind word toward 
others to help them see that no matter the struggles they faced, 
everything would work out for the best. His love for life and caring for
 others were his passions.

Galen was preceded in death by his 
parents; his wife, Mary, and his infant daughter Jennifer Ann. Survivors

 </figure>Galen Duane Smith, 81, Hill City, Kansas, passed away April 9, 2023, 
in Hill City, with his family present. Galen was the youngest of three 
children born February 18, 1942, in Hill City to Lee and Maggie (Post) 
Smith. He attended the local schools and graduated from Hill City High 
School.After graduation, Galen went to work doing small jobs with 
his dad and quickly worked his way into a position learning electrical 
work so he could become a lineman. He soon met his bride-to-be, Mary 
Scott, at a small-town dance in Lenora. He spoke many times of the trips
 he made from Hill City to Lenora to see her, laughing about his 
speeding there in either his smoking old Oldsmobile or on his 
motorcycle.Galen and Mary were married September 27, 1959, in 
Norton. Their first child, James, was born in 1960 and Joseph arrived in
 1963. Galen moved his family into parts of Colorado, Western Kansas, 
and Nebraska where he worked building and helping supply power lines 
across rural areas to several communities. In 1965, their daughter 
Jennifer was born in Hill City. A year later their daughter Julie was 
born. The family moved to Clifton, Colorado, to be closer to Mary’s 
family. Galen worked as a cabinet maker and on a local drilling rig. 
After returning to Hill City, Galen went to work for the city. Then he 
worked for a local electrical company putting his lineman experience to 
use. As the need for electrical work slowed down in the area, Galen took
 a job in the oilfield checking pumping units for local oil companies. 
With the birth of their son Jason in 1974, their family was complete. 
Galen remained in Hill City working as a contract pumper until his 
retirement.Galen had a zest for life. Keeping busy was the key to
 his happiness. He was always there to help his children and 
grandchildren with anything from pulling them in wagons, teaching them 
to ride a bike, to helping and showing them how to fix just about 
everything. A hobby he enjoyed was woodworking. He took the time to 
build small projects as gifts for several of his grandchildren. His love
 for fishing and hunting was passed down to the following generations. 
He especially loved seeing his grandchildren’s first cast of a fishing 
pole and walking in line with the boys on pheasant hunts. He looked 
forward to morning coffee with his friends, just so they could share the
 stories of the good old days. Galen always had a kind word toward 
others to help them see that no matter the struggles they faced, 
everything would work out for the best. His love for life and caring for
 others were his passions.Galen was preceded in death by his 
parents; his wife, Mary, and his infant daughter Jennifer Ann. Survivors

Galen Duane Smith

Lynn Richard Sargent, the son of Laurel and Darlene (Schreiber) 
Sargent, was born January 16, 1962 in Ransom, Kansas. He grew up on the 
family farm just a few miles southeast of Ransom. He attended both 
elementary and secondary schools at Ransom, proudly graduating as a 
Longhorn in 1980. Lynn received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from 
Fort Hays State University in 1984. He lived his adult life in the 
Ransom area, working in agriculture and hauling oil.&nbsp;

Lynn married Paula Roesch of Quinter in June of 1996. They later 
divorced.&nbsp; His two children, Katie Lynn and Dylan Robert were the center
 of his life.&nbsp; He raised them as a single parent on his own farm, even 
after an accident in 2011 left him paralyzed. He supported them in all 
their endeavors, felt deeply their joys and struggles, and was intensely
 proud of their accomplishments.&nbsp;

Lynn was an avid sports fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, the New York 
Yankees, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Kansas State Wildcats. He greatly 
enjoyed visiting about growing up on the farm, the trouble he got into 
here and there growing up, and what was going on in the world. He was a 
lifelong member of the First Mennonite Church of Ransom.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Laurel and Darlene 
Sargent, and also a sister, Susan Sargent. He is survived by his 
children, Katie (Eathan Bizzell) and Dylan Sargent, and also a grandson,
 Elijah Bizzell.&nbsp; He is also survived by a sister, Pat (Cletus) Flax and
 brother Gary (Paula) Sargent; five nieces and nephews Tyler (Shansy) 
Flax, Amy (Stuart) Schmidt, Andrew (Katie) Flax, Lauren (Samuel) 
Sargent, and Jordan Sargent; as well as eleven great nieces and 
nephews.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be at the First Mennonite Church of Ransom on 
Saturday, April 15, at 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Ransom 
Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be&nbsp; from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 
April 14, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 
Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lynn Richard Sargent

Arlene Marie Karlin, 88, passed away on April 12, 2023, at Ellinwood 
District Hospital, Ellinwood, Kan. She was born on December 14, 1934, in
 Pfeifer, Kan., to Joseph and Veronica (Befort) Dome. On November 13, 
1954, she was married to Leroy Karlin in Pfeifer, Kan. He passed on 
April 11, 2001.

A resident of Great Bend since 1959 coming from Ellis County, Arlene 
was a homemaker. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Altar 
Society, and Daughters of Isabella. Arlene volunteered with the Church 
bringing communion to those home bound, adoration chapel, prayer, and 
pro-life advocacy. She also volunteered with Birth Right, at CKMC and 
later St. Rose Pavillion at the gift shop, as well as a Girl Scout 
Leader. Arlene was dedicated to her family and faith throughout her 
life.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Judy) Karlin of Shawnee, Kan., and
 Joe (Amy) Karlin of Lenexa, Kan.; three daughters, Mary (Mel) Waite of 
Ellinwood, Kan., Susan (Rodney) Broeckelman of Mankato, Kan, and Jean 
(Joe) Scarfino of St. Louis, Mo.; twenty-two grandchildren; eighteen 
great-grandchildren with one on the way; and three sisters, Virginia 
Kisner, Shirley Gregory and Fran Hunter. She is preceded in death by her
 husband; her parents; a grandson, Thomas Joseph Karlin; two brothers, 
Joseph and Vernon Dome; and a sister, Ruby Karlin.

Visitation will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023, from Noon to 
8:00 p.m. with family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., 
Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m., and Vigil with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., 
all at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 
10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in

Susie Youngblood, 70, of Atwood, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 
HaysMed in Hays, KS. She was born in Cumberland, MD, on October 24, 
1952, to Gene and Geraldine (Swisher) Files. 

Susie enjoyed gardening, 
fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends. She was a 
caregiver for many elderly people. On April 25, 1986, Susie married Joe 
Youngblood in Atwood KS. 
She was preceded in death by her parents. 
Susie is survived by her husband Joe; children, Gary (Trisha) Taylor and
 Angela (Jay) Covert; siblings, Linda Files, Michelle Richie and Gene 
Files and Sandy Files; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild;

Thomas 'Tom' Frederking

Thomas Doyle, 83, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023, with his family by his side. 

Tom was born May 8th, 1939, in Grassflat, Pennsylvania, to Dr. James and Winifred Doyle. The family move to Leechburg, Pennsylvania, when Tom was three years old. He graduated from Leechburg High School in 1957. 

He earned a degree in Pharmacy from The University of Pittsburgh and later went to work for various pharmacies in Pittsburgh and Scottsdale Az. He retired when he was 72. 

Tom married his wife Ann in 1961 and they were married for 62 years. They were blessed with 3 children, Deborah Ann, Thomas Jr. and Carolyn Jo. 

Tom is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Deborah and Paul of Hays, Kansas, Carolyn and Rick of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Tom and Kristi of Cave Creek, Ariz., and his 5 grandchildren — Sean, Katie, Jacob, Alexis and Danielle. 

He will be remembered for his patient and loving manner in which he treated each person he encountered. More importantly for his love and devotion he expressed for his wife, children and grandchildren. Tom loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren and going to all their sporting events. He also loved to play racquetball with his good friends and kids. 

A memorial service will be held at Messinger Indian School Mortuary on Saturday, April 29th, at 1:00pm. Donations can be made to Noble Hospice &amp; Palliative Care or your favorite charity.

Norma Jean Yarger, age 97, of Goodland passed away Sunday, April 9, 
2023, at Topside Manor in Goodland. She was born March 17, 1926, to Marie 
(Ward) and Melvin Gregory in her grandmothers home in Alton, Kansas. She
 grew up on a farm 9 miles southwest of Alton on the farm homesteaded by
 her grandfather Jesse Gregory. 

She attended Mt. Ayr Country school 
graduating in 1947. After graduation she attended Asbury Nursing School 
in Salina. She worked as a nurse in Salina, until she moved to Goodland 
to work with some of her college friends at the Boothroy Memorial 
Hospital. On June 8, 1949, she married James Yarger in Butte, Montana. In
 1950, they returned to the Goodland area to help with the family farm. 
Norma Jean worked at USD352 as the School Nurse, Good Samaritan Center 
as Director of Nursing. She also worked at Golden West Skills Center and
 Connie's Home Health.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Norma Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church of Goodland. 
Over the years she was a member of 4-H, some of her projects as a child 
were sewing, pigs and the steer. She enjoyed nursing and most of all 
spending time with her family and friends.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; husband, James; son, Louie; and grandson, Thomas.&nbsp;

Norma Jean was survived by her sons, Michael (Cindie) of Goodland and
 Larry (Mary) of Excelsior, MN; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 
great-great-grandchildren; and many more family and friends.&nbsp;

Norma Jean Yarger

Lisa Ann Wondra, 54, died April 11, 2023, at Clara Barton Hospital, 
Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born June 22, 1968, in Hoisington, the 
daughter of Eugene and Mary Jo (Ohnmacht) Maneth.&nbsp; Lisa graduated from 
Otis-Bison High School in 1986. She then received her associate's degree 
from Barton County Community College and her bachelor’s degree from St. 
Mary of the Plains in Dodge City. She was working towards her master’s 
degree with Fort Hays State University but had to quit due to her health.

On June 1, 1991, she married Gary L. Wondra at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas.

A lifetime resident of Olmitz, Lisa worked as an elementary teacher 
and librarian, starting in Timken and Albert and finally working for USD
 403 Otis-Bison. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church of 
Olmitz, Kansas, where she was a member of the Altar Society and had sung
 in the church choir.&nbsp; Lisa was also a longtime member of the Daughters 
of Isabella Circle 744. Lisa fought her illness with such grace, she was
 always optimistic. Her vitality and love was evident in her care of 
others, never one to linger on her own problems, she was always 
concerned for others and their wellbeing. She always asked about your 
care and concerns and made sure you were well fed with her good cooking 
when visiting. She will be loved and missed by many.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Gary L. Wondra of the 
home; and two children, Kristin Colson and husband Jesse of Dighton, and
 Kenton Wondra of Olmitz; her parents, Eugene “Gene” and Mary Jo Maneth 
of Olmitz; three brothers, LeRoy Maneth and wife Shirley of Andover, her
 twin brother, Dale Maneth and wife Christy of Olmitz, and Michael 
Maneth and wife Brandy of Albert; a mother-in-law, Rose Ann Wondra of 
Hoisington, three sisters-in-law, Lois Hanchett and husband Trey of 
Salina, Cheryl Klepper and husband Tony of Ellinwood, and Bernetta 
Burkhart and husband Tom of Hutchinson; and many beloved aunts, uncles, 
nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family to greet 
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil and Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., all at 
the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 
2023, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Olmitz, Kansas. Celebrated by Father
 Anselm Eke, MSP.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz.

 </figure>Lisa Ann Wondra, 54, died April 11, 2023, at Clara Barton Hospital, 
Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born June 22, 1968, in Hoisington, the 
daughter of Eugene and Mary Jo (Ohnmacht) Maneth.&nbsp; Lisa graduated from 
Otis-Bison High School in 1986. She then received her associate's degree 
from Barton County Community College and her bachelor’s degree from St. 
Mary of the Plains in Dodge City. She was working towards her master’s 
degree with Fort Hays State University but had to quit due to her health.On June 1, 1991, she married Gary L. Wondra at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas.A lifetime resident of Olmitz, Lisa worked as an elementary teacher 
and librarian, starting in Timken and Albert and finally working for USD
 403 Otis-Bison. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church of 
Olmitz, Kansas, where she was a member of the Altar Society and had sung
 in the church choir.&nbsp; Lisa was also a longtime member of the Daughters 
of Isabella Circle 744. Lisa fought her illness with such grace, she was
 always optimistic. Her vitality and love was evident in her care of 
others, never one to linger on her own problems, she was always 
concerned for others and their wellbeing. She always asked about your 
care and concerns and made sure you were well fed with her good cooking 
when visiting. She will be loved and missed by many.She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Gary L. Wondra of the 
home; and two children, Kristin Colson and husband Jesse of Dighton, and
 Kenton Wondra of Olmitz; her parents, Eugene “Gene” and Mary Jo Maneth 
of Olmitz; three brothers, LeRoy Maneth and wife Shirley of Andover, her
 twin brother, Dale Maneth and wife Christy of Olmitz, and Michael 
Maneth and wife Brandy of Albert; a mother-in-law, Rose Ann Wondra of
