Francis Frank Unrein, age 89, of Gorham, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, at the Girard Medical Center in Girard, Kansas.

He was&nbsp;born October 8, 1933, in Schoenchen, Kansas, to Peter and Agatha (Leikam) Unrein. &nbsp;He married Ellen (Nowak) on February 1, 1958, at Gorham. &nbsp;She preceded him&nbsp;in death on September 12, 1982.&nbsp;Then&nbsp;he married Charlene (Braun) on May 9, 1998, at Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

He was lineman-in-charge at Midwest Energy for 38 years and retired in 1996. &nbsp;He grew up and attended school in Schoenchen then moved to Gorham in 1957. &nbsp;He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gorham 3rd&nbsp;degree Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer on the Gorham Fire Department for 15 years. He enjoyed restoring cars, riding motorcycles, playing cards, C-B radios, &nbsp;and doing wiring jobs on the side. &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Unrein, of the home; his children, Ernie Unrein, Parsons, KS; Glen Unrein and wife, Michele, Victoria, KS; Martin Unrein and wife, Kristy, Southaven, MS; his &nbsp;grandchildren, Audrey Lewis and husband, Jesse; Cory Unrein and wife, Tiffany; Amber Younger and husband, Joel; Courtney Unrein; Jordan&nbsp;Unrein; his nine&nbsp;great grandchildren;&nbsp;his step-children, David VonFeldt, Victoria; KS; Sandy Scheck, Hays, KS; Peggy Klaus and husband, Terry, Victoria, KS; his step-grandchildren, Cody Scheck and wife, Mikayla, Blake Klaus and wife, Macy; Trenton Klaus and wife, Jacy; Lori VonFeldt; his three step-great grandchildren; his brother, Clem Unrein and wife, Viola, Hays, KS; his sisters-in-law, Wilma Unrein,&nbsp;and Alice Unrein, Wichita, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gorham,&nbsp;with Father Michael Elan officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gorham.

A Gorham Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30 P.M. Friday, followed by a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Friday, all&nbsp;at&nbsp;St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gorham.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gorham.

Francis Frank Unrein

Jerry J. Kinser, age 77, of Clyde, KS, left this earthly life on 
Friday, April 7, 2023, at the North Central Kansas Medical Center, 
Concordia, KS.&nbsp;

Jerry was born May 21, 1945, in Norton, KS to 
Joseph and Josephine (Von Schuetz) Kinser. The eldest of six children, 
he grew up on his family farm, was active in 4-H, band, and loved all 
sports.

He graduated from Jennings High School in 1963 and then 
Fort Hays State University, where he met his wife, Josephine (Sandi) 
Marshall. They married March 5, 1966, and had two daughters, Jolene and 
Janell.

He received his master’s degree in education technology 
from Kansas State University. Jerry enjoyed teaching elementary students
 in WaKeeney, Weskan, Jamestown, and Concordia. After retiring, Jerry 
was an instructor at the Alternative High School in Concordia, taught 
driver's education to students in several districts, and was a 
substitute teacher at Clifton-Clyde. 

In addition to teaching, 
Jerry loved umpiring baseball, refereeing basketball and football, and 
especially enjoyed refereeing volleyball with his daughter, Janell. Once
 retired from that, he took to harassing the umpires and referees at his
 grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was a member of First 
Christian Church in Concordia for more than 38 years and served as an 
elder there for many years and served on the board of directors for 
Alpha Christian Children’s Home.

Jerry was preceded in death by 
his parents, wife (Sandi), brother (Tim Kinser), sister (Kay Ann Reedy),
 brother-in-law (John Stanley). 

He is survived by his daughters 
Jolene Girard (Patrick) of Clyde, and Janell McMillan (Scott) of Topeka;
 grandchildren Paige Shafferman (Jeff) and son Jack; Stephen McMillan 
(Emmelina) and children Elizabeth, Danny, and Nova; Dorian Fahey (Brett)
 and daughters Evyn, Isla, and Greer; Joseph McMillan (Susan) and 
children Abigail, Thomas, and Clarissa; Elias Girard (Fiancée, Katherine
 Holcomb); Adria Girard; Scott McMillan; siblings Linda Stanley, Janet 
Morrin (Damon), John Kinser (Kay), sister-in-law Mary Kinser-Cressler 
(Russell), brother-in-law Tom &nbsp;Reedy (JoAnn), and several nieces and 
nephews.

Jerry’s wish was to be cremated, and a memorial service 
is planned for Friday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Chaput Mortuary in 
Clyde, KS officiated by Mr. Bernard Newell with a luncheon following at 
the Clyde Senior Center. A private family burial of the cremains is 
planned for the following day.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are 
suggested to Alpha Christian Children’s Home or Park Villa Nursing Home 
in care of the funeral home.

Jerry J. Kinser

Norman L. Nelson died peacefully at his home in Norton, Kansas, at 
the age of 85 on April 8th, 2023.  He was tended by his exceptional 
caregiver of seven years, Magda Dolotshahi of Great Bend.

Norman
 was born October 29, 1937, to Stanley Swan Nelson and Leila Mae 
(Scholl) Nelson, Long Island, Kansas. His was a home birth, delivered by
 well-known Dr. Herbert S. Bennie (“Dr. Bennie”) of Almena, Kansas, at 
the Nelson family house near land homesteaded in 1884 by Norman’s 
first-generation Swedish immigrant great-grandparents, Swan and Nellie 
Nelson. Norman’s official residence remained within 21 miles of his 
birthplace for his entire lifetime and yet his life reached far.

Norman
 attended Willowdale one-room country school, moving to Almena Grade 
School as a third grader and graduating from Almena Rural High School in
 1956. In high school, he was an officer in Future Farmers of America 
(FFA) and played football. Norman attended one semester at Kansas State 
University, Manhattan, Kansas, before returning home to Long Island to 
farm with his father as Nelson &amp; Son Farm.

On Easter 
Sunday, April 21, 1957, Norman married Gloria Ann Van Patten, Almena, 
Kansas, daughter of Loren and Mildred Van Patten of Almena. Norman and 
Gloria’s first home was a tiny one, a mile east of his parents’ home 
outside of Long Island, Kansas. They had four children: Sally, Terry, 
Troy and Lisa. They were married almost 66 years.

With a 
philosophy of dogged hard work, calculated risk-taking, business 
diversification and service, Norman, his father, his sons and their 
families built a business, over Norman’s adult lifetime, from 
approximately 500 acres and a few livestock to a multi-faceted 
agriculturally-based business that serves the family and counties 
throughout western Kansas and southwestern Nebraska with associations 
that reach much farther.

Nelson Farms Inc. was an early 
farm operation to realize the necessity of legal incorporation and 
gradually diversified into multiple entities including crop production, 
grain storage, fertilizer and chemicals, livestock production, feed 
processing, banking, and energy. Norman was innovative and quietly 
instrumental in changing the marketing system for beef to encourage a 
premium product which resulted in industry-wide progress.

In
 1990, First State Bank of Norton was purchased with a focus on 
agriculture customers. Locations in Hill City, Hoxie, Plainville, KS and
 Holdrege, NE, would follow. A farmer buying a bank was an innovation in
 itself, at the time, and was accomplished with much skill and 
determination.

Norman served on the boards of Rural 
Electric Association, Almena Irrigation District and served as a Norton 
County Commissioner.  He was a member of the Free Masons and Shriners.

In
 1995, Norman was involved in a chance business investment that 
converted condominiums in Titusville, FL, overlooking the Indian River 
and Cape Canaveral. On an investigative trip, he purchased two units for
 personal investment that inadvertently became the inspiration for 20+ 
years of winters in Florida where he and Gloria developed many lasting 
friendships and entertained leagues of their children, grandchildren, 
and other guests for fun in the sun. Soon, Norman bought a small citrus 
grove based on the premise that he liked fresh-squeezed orange juice and
 noticed that it was scarce in Florida, ironically.

In his 
later years, Norman purchased ranches in WaKeeney, KS, Paradise, KS, 
and, most recently, the Pyramid Ranch in Gove County, KS, which includes
 Monument Rock.

Also in their later years, Norman and 
Gloria began to focus more on making a lasting impact on the future of 
Norton, Kansas. They loved and believed in Norton and invested 
accordingly. They spearheaded the renovation of the historic Lyon House 
and Heaton Building and facilitated the construction of the 
award-winning Sleep Inn Hotel, all in Norton. They were fundamental to 
the establishment of the Norton Community Foundation. Norman could be a 
tough negotiator, but he was silently generous. There are innumerable 
times that he funded projects and emergency needs, large and small, in 
and around the community, the details of which few people will ever 
know.

Norman adored playing cards, from his teen years 
until the day the pandemic closed the doors of the Norton Senior Citizen
 Center (he played cards on iPad, alone, for a while afterward). He also
 loved fishing; western movies, music, and books; playing the stock 
market and commodities markets; growing vegetables and oranges; his 
nickname “Stormin’ Norman”; watching old westerns and sleeping in his 
easy chair; and, he was wild about his grandchildren, dancing the 
chicken dance with them among other endearing antics. He knew all his 
great children by personality even after he could no longer remember 
them by name.

Norman Nelson was a “bigger than life” person and will be greatly missed by many.

Norman
 is preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law Jim Vander Lugt 
and dear friends that include Floyd Fairleigh of Fairleigh Feed Yards, 
Scott City; Wayne Schnuerle of Almena; Don Stutterheim, Bob Yeager and 
Bill Sharp of Norton; Ben Boell of Holdrege; Everett McKenna of Palco 
and Bernard Griffiths of Long Island. He is survived by his wife Gloria,
 who lives with their youngest daughter, Lisa, two sisters, Lolita Jean 
Coupe (Dick) - Dallas, Texas, and Nathalee Rae VanderLugt - Edgerton, 
Minnesota. Their children Sally Nelson - Fairway, KS; N. Terry Nelson 
(Marcia) - Almena, KS; Troy Nelson (Denise) – Lewis, KS; Lisa Brooksher 
(Bruce) – Paradise, KS/Titusville, FL; Grandchildren: Clarke Nelson 
(Julia); Stanton Nelson; Kayla Burr (Dustin); Kamille Whited; James (JT)
 Whited; Bo Nelson (Erica); Carson Brooksher and 11 great grandchildren,
 a niece, four nephews, and many great friends.

A 
Celebration of Life for Norman Nelson is to be held April 22 at 11 am, 
Terry and Marcia Nelson’s home, 25998 State Hwy 383, Almena, KS. Dinner 
and fun to follow; anyone who would like to attend is welcome.

until the day the pandemic closed the doors of the Norton Senior Citizen
 Center (he played cards on iPad, alone, for a while afterward). He also
 loved fishing; western movies, music, and books; playing the stock 
market and commodities markets; growing vegetables and oranges; his 
nickname “Stormin’ Norman”; watching old westerns and sleeping in his 
easy chair; and, he was wild about his grandchildren, dancing the 
chicken dance with them among other endearing antics. He knew all his 
great children by personality even after he could no longer remember 
them by name.Norman Nelson was a “bigger than life” person and will be greatly missed by many.Norman
 is preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law Jim Vander Lugt 
and dear friends that include Floyd Fairleigh of Fairleigh Feed Yards, 
Scott City; Wayne Schnuerle of Almena; Don Stutterheim, Bob Yeager and 
Bill Sharp of Norton; Ben Boell of Holdrege; Everett McKenna of Palco 
and Bernard Griffiths of Long Island. He is survived by his wife Gloria,
 who lives with their youngest daughter, Lisa, two sisters, Lolita Jean 
Coupe (Dick) - Dallas, Texas, and Nathalee Rae VanderLugt - Edgerton, 
Minnesota. Their children Sally Nelson - Fairway, KS; N. Terry Nelson 
(Marcia) - Almena, KS; Troy Nelson (Denise) – Lewis, KS; Lisa Brooksher 
(Bruce) – Paradise, KS/Titusville, FL; Grandchildren: Clarke Nelson 
(Julia); Stanton Nelson; Kayla Burr (Dustin); Kamille Whited; James (JT)
 Whited; Bo Nelson (Erica); Carson Brooksher and 11 great grandchildren,

Edwin Adolph Scheck, 97, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Edwin was born on September 3, 1925, on the family farm in rural 
Ellis County, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Magdalen (Windholz) Scheck.&nbsp;
 He grew up on the farm north of Walker, Kansas, and attended school in 
Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War 
II.&nbsp; He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Rita Rose 
Bellendir on August 08, 1949, at the St. Fidelis Catholic Church in 
Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union, Edwin and Rita were blessed with 3 
children, sons Gerald and Stephen and daughter Karen.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
working the family farm and also worked for the city of Russell for 37 
years in the water department.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of St. Mary 
Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell and was also a 3rd and 4th
 degree Knights of Columbus member.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Russell
 V.F.W. Post #6240 and American Legion Post #99.&nbsp; He enjoyed working 
with wood, gardening and fishing but most of all enjoyed spending time 
with his family and friends.

Surviving family include his sons Gerald Scheck of New Port Coast, 
California and Stephen Scheck of Salem, Oregon and daughter Karen Scheck
 of Topeka, Kansas; sister Lena Mader of Victoria, Kansas; 3 
grandchildren Thomas and Trevor Scheck and Amelia Scheck; and great 
granddaughter Lucy Scheck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita on December 06, 
2013, brothers Peter, Seraphine, Victor, Melvin, Gilbert and Linus 
Scheck; sisters Bertha Denning, Mary Weigel, Rubina Dinkel, Katie Scheck
 and Leona Scheck

A celebration of the funeral mass for Edwin will be held at 10:00

Carl Eugene Maddy, 88, passed away on December 31, 2022, following 
the passing of his wife, Dolores Maxine (Bauer) Maddy, 87, on July 9, 
2022, both at Chisolm Place Assisted Living in Wichita, Kan. They were 
joined in union on August 28, 1955, in Dighton, Kan., and were blessed 
with four children, Steven (Clarissa) Maddy of Wichita, Terri Kennard of
 Wichita, Michael Maddy of Larned, and Lynette Gallentine, whom 
proceeded them in death, and many other family members.

A celebration of life for the couple will be held at 11:30 a.m. 
Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Golden Belt Memorial Park, with Pastor Matt
 Wimmer presiding. Honors for Carl will be conducted by both the 
National Guard and the Great Bend Fire Department. Memorials have been 
designated in Dolores’ name to the Central Baptist Church and in Carl’s

Rosemary Walt, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.&nbsp;

Rosemary was born near Quinter, KS on August 23, 1939, to Anton and Rosalia (Giebler) Dinkel. She was the youngest of eleven children. When she was young, her family moved to a farm north of Collyer. Growing up on the farm, she learned to garden, which she still loved. Her mother taught her to crochet. She spent many hours crocheting afghans. All her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have one to remember her by. The last few years, she crocheted several stuffed animals for her great-grandkids. She was an excellent cook. We enjoyed many delicious meals, especially during the holidays.&nbsp;

Rosemary attended school in Collyer, where she graduated salutatorian of her class in 1957. After high school, she worked at the Coop in Collyer as a bookkeeper. She married Ted Walt Jr. on October 7, 1961, at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Collyer. They had three children, Larry, Terry, and Patty. They were lifelong residents of Collyer.&nbsp;

Ted and Rosemary opened Walt's Repair in 1963 where she worked as the secretary and bookkeeper until she retired in 1996. After her retirement, she frequently helped Ted on the farm. They also enjoyed training bird dogs. They loved traveling to competitions and controlled hunts with their dogs. For many years, Rosemary and her sister Rosalie made custom cakes ranging from small, simple cakes to large, elaborate wedding cakes.&nbsp;

Rosemary was a member of Saint Michael's Alter Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Gove County Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary, where she volunteered at the gift shop for several years.&nbsp;

Rosemary's greatest joy was her family. She was thrilled to have her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren living near or in Collyer. She had a unique relationship with each of us and loved us unconditionally. She especially loved having her great-grandkids come to visit.&nbsp;

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, and siblings Paul, Bertha, Leo, Beata, Marcella, Don, Rosalie, Alvin and Clarence. She is survived by her brother Bob of Quinter; her children, Larry and wife Angie, their children Blaine and wife Ryan and their children Jordi and Bowen, Derek and wife Nicole and their daughter Kendall all of Collyer; Terry and wife Laura, their children Tyler and wife Cristina and their children Cody, Taylor and Cayden, Keith and wife Merry and their children Greyson, McCoy, Lachlan and Aislinn all of Collyer, and&nbsp;Brittney of Colby; Patty Knop and husband Jeff, their children Karly Snyder and husband Adam and their daughter Rylan all of Collyer, Nikki Jansonius and husband Logan and their son Lark of Colby; and many friends and relatives.

Long<a></a>time Sharon Springs, KS resident Maynard Lester&nbsp;Giersdorf, 88, passed away Saturday, April 8th, 2023, at Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, KS. He was born on October 15, 1934, in Spalding, NE to Lester and Lilly (Buhlman)&nbsp;Giersdorf.

He grew up&nbsp;in Grand Island, NE where he attended school. &nbsp;As a young adult, he enjoyed racing motorcycles on dirt roads, highways, and even on railroad tracks where he won many trophies.&nbsp;

On December 19, 1968, Maynard and Frances Darlene&nbsp;Bielser&nbsp;were married in Sharon Springs, KS. Together, they raised four children, Robert, Brenda, Theresa, and Clarissa. They were active members at The Elk’s in Goodland, KS and shared many excursions and travel adventures with their children.

Maynard was very passionate about agriculture and people. He was a well-known fertilizer salesman for over 50 years where he had many loyal customers. He also enjoyed raising cattle, hogs, and his own wheat crop. When he wasn’t working, a few of his favorite pastimes were hunting, camping, boating, and spending time with his grandkids.&nbsp;

Preceding him in death is his wife, Darlene on April 13, 2007, his parents, and his sister Laura.

Surviving family members include Robert (Susan)&nbsp;Bielser&nbsp;of Cape Coral, FL, Brenda&nbsp;Stricker&nbsp;of Grand Island, NE,&nbsp;Theresa (Ronnie) Hill of Sharon Springs, KS, and Clarissa (Justin)&nbsp;Kriegh&nbsp;of Sharon Springs, KS.&nbsp;He is also survived by&nbsp;9 grandkids and 13 great-grandkids.

Maynard Lester Giersdorf

Teresa Karlin, age&nbsp;79,&nbsp;&nbsp;of Hays, Kansas, passed away at her home Sunday,&nbsp;April 9, 2023. &nbsp;She was born&nbsp;September 30, 1943, in Hays, to Harold W. and Wauneta (Turner) Vine. &nbsp;She&nbsp;married Norbert Karlin on May 30,&nbsp;1961,&nbsp;in Hays.

She was an elementary teacher at Saint Joseph Grade School in Hays for four years and was a foster parent for over 50 years. &nbsp;Teresa was a 1961 graduate of Ellis High School and a graduate of Fort Hays State College. &nbsp;She&nbsp;taught English&nbsp;as a&nbsp;Second&nbsp;Language&nbsp;to&nbsp;adults&nbsp;and was a teacher of&nbsp;foster parenting classes. &nbsp;She was a member of Celebration Community Church, Hays,&nbsp;Master Gardeners&nbsp;Club,&nbsp;and was&nbsp;very involved with&nbsp;4-H Club while raising the kids. She enjoyed cooking, playing pinochle,&nbsp;and&nbsp;raising her chickens. &nbsp;

She&nbsp;was a wonderful&nbsp;wife,&nbsp;mother,&nbsp;and grandmother.&nbsp;But most importantly, she had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ that led her in everything&nbsp;she did.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Phillipsburg resident Charles I. “Cy” Moyer passed away in Highland, KS on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the age of 87.

He was born June 22, 1935, in Highland, KS the son of C. I. and Ruth (Corcoran) Moyer.

Cy was united in marriage to Charlotte Lee Lybarger on August 17, 
1958, in Coffeyville, KS.&nbsp; Charlotte preceded him in death in 2001.&nbsp; Then
 on May 26, 2002, in Phillipsburg, KS he was united in marriage to Gladys
 V. (Hazlett) Sutton.

Survivors include his wife Gladys of Phillipsburg; sons Charles 
Bryant Moyer and wife Alana of Topeka, KS; Clinton Moyer and wife Lisa 
of Overland Park, KS; and Jaret Moyer and wife Shawna of Emporia, KS; 
step-daughter Jeannette Prochazka and husband Bill of Phillipsburg, KS; a
 sister Ruth Anna Gerald of Shawnee Mission, KS; along with 5 
grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, in
 the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor David Manyara 
officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve

Fransisca Morales, age 77, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Western 
Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born 
November 8, 1945, in Anson, Texas, the daughter of Nasario and Josefina 
(Ramirez) Guzman. 
Fransisca grew up in Del Rio, Texas. She married Pedro Morales on 
January 30, 1974. Fransisca loved to cook and take food for potluck 
dinners at Templo Nueva Vida in Ulysses. She enjoyed watching Family 
Feud on TV. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed going to Las 
Vegas. Fransisca treasured the time she spent with her family, kids and
 grandkids. 
Fransisca is survived by her husband, Pedro of their home; ten children,
 Josefina (Josie) Molina and husband Erbey of Johnson, Edwardo (Junior) 
Flores, Jr. and wife M. Elvira of Ulysses, Blanca Rodriguez and husband 
Tony of Ulysses, Dimas Guerrero and wife Yesenia of Gridley, California,
 Domingo Guerrero of Midland, Texas, Micaela (Mickey) Cortez and husband
 Juan of Midland, Texas, Isidro Morales of Scott City, Cesareo Morales

Dennis Lynn Fixsen, age 78, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in 
Nixa, MO.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born October 22, 1944, in Goodland, KS to Fred and 
Bertha (Darnhauer) Fixsen.&nbsp;&nbsp;He attended Goodland Public School before 
graduating from Goodland High School in the class of 1962.&nbsp;&nbsp;Following 
high school graduation, he attended and graduated from Fort Hays State 
University with a BA in Business Management.

Dennis was drafted into the Army and sent to Fort Ord, CA for Basic 
Training in April of 1969.&nbsp;&nbsp;Following basic training he was sent to Fort
 Rucker, AL for&nbsp;Aircraft Maintenance&nbsp;training.&nbsp;&nbsp;In June of 1970 he was 
then sent to Vietnam and stationed in An Khe and Saigon with the 4th&nbsp;Infantry Division and was later transferred to the 101st&nbsp;Airborne
 Division before being sent home in January of 1971.&nbsp;&nbsp;During his time of
 service, he earned an Army Commendation Medal and was a Lifetime Member
 of the VFW.<a></a>

Dennis worked in banking and finance his entire life for companies in
 Kansas, Colorado, California and Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;He enjoyed history and 
automobiles, and was exceptionally fond of the several Corvettes that he
 owned and took meticulous care of.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Fred and Bertha Fixsen, two 
brothers Gayle Fixsen, William Fixsen, and a sister Jeri Schmid.

He is survived by his former wife, Michelle Gabel of Nixa, MO and 
their two sons, Jason (Christie) Fixsen and granddaughter Jaycee of 
Nixa, MO and Josh (Elizabeth) Fixsen and grandson Ethan of Beloit, KS; 
one sister, Marilyn (James) Lohay of Prescott, AZ; and two brothers, 
Richard Fixsen of Highland, CA, and Dr. Dean (Karen) Fixsen of Chapel 
Hill, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, the family will host a
 celebration of life service to be held Thirsty’s Bar &amp; Grill 
in&nbsp;Hays, KS on May 5th&nbsp;from 5pm-8pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html" target="_blank">https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html</a>

Goodland, KS resident Dolores V. Cody, 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at her home in Goodland.

Dolores was born on March 25, 1936, in Ruleton, KS to Antonio and 
Guadalupe (Mendez) Manzo.&nbsp; She was one of ten children.&nbsp; She lived in 
Ruleton until the age of 12 and then moved to Goodland where she 
attended school through the 12th grade, graduating with the class of 
1954.&nbsp; She then went on and attended four years of college at Loretto 
Heights College in Denver, CO.

On February 19, 1987, she married Charles Conn Cody in Burlington, 
CO.&nbsp; Dolores worked for many years as a nurse for USD 352 as well as 
numerous other school districts.&nbsp; She also worked as an Attendance 
Director and worked with Bilingual and Monolingual programs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Surviving friends include her caregivers Jody Sharon of Goodland, 
Maria Garza of Goodland, as well as numerous other friends in the 
Goodland Community she considered family.

Dolores’ wishes were to be cremated with no services to be held at this time.

Dolores V. (Manzo) Cody

Leatrice Napue, 94, Hill City, Kansas, formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska,
 entered his eternal rest March 3, 2023.  He was born in Nicodemus, 
Kansas, April 29, 1928, to Halbert Herman and Verna Ophelia (Williams) 
Napue. On August 18, 1950, Leatrice entered into holy matrimony with 
Delores Nevins.  To this union three children were born:  Roger, Rodney,
 and Pamela. Leatrice was a United States Army veteran. He spent his 
career working for the Lincoln Public Schools District in Lincoln, 
Nebraska.&nbsp;

Leatrice was preceded in death by his 
parents; one brother, William Napue; four sisters, Vernita Cruder, 
Bernadine Terry, Yvonne Sayers, and Halberta Jones.  Left to cherish his
 memory are his former wife Delores Napue of Hill City; two sons, Roger 
Napue (Marilyn) of Kansas City, Missouri and Rodney Napue of Lincoln, 
Nebraska; one daughter, Pamela (Napue) Johnson of Raytown, Missouri; 
three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and
 nephews.

 2023, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Edna was born on December 5, 1934, in Norton County, Kansas, to Edward and Adeline (Hardi) Koester.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Adeline, brothers
 Harry and Ralph Koester, sisters Arlene Schick and Dorothy Schneider, 
and great grandson Bennett Lee Wolf.

Survivors include her sons Dale Riemann and wife Joni of McPherson, 
Kansas, and Roger Riemann of Eudora, Kansas, daughter Sharon Vogel of

A rosary service will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023, 6:00 p.m., at the SS Philip and James Catholic Church.

Billie Ray “Bill” Williams, 84, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away 
Saturday, January 21, 2023, at McPherson Hospital. He was born January 1,
 1939, in Alton, Kansas, the son of Herald and Adeline (Stephenson) 
Williams. Bill graduated from Alton High School with the class of 1956. He
 enlisted in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1978, serving during
 the Vietnam War. Bill attained the rank of Storekeeper First Class. He 
served his country for 22 years. After his military retirement in
 1978, Bill started working as a civilian contractor until leaving 
Sasebo, Japan, in 1989. He later worked for the Osborne and Concordia 
School districts where he drove the bus for school and activity runs 
until 1999. Bill began working as a janitor for the Alton Jr. High 
School, as well as activity bus runs, officially retiring in 2002. He
 was a member of the United Christian Church of Osborne. Bill was a 
lifetime member of the VFW in Osborne and a member of the American 
Legion in Alton. Bill was married in 1977 to Yoko whom he met in 
Sasebo. They were married until her death from breast cancer in 1985. He
 was later united in marriage to his forever partner, Carolyn J. Freeman
 on January 7, 1991, at the Osborne Christian Church. She survives of the
 home. Other survivors include his children Kelly Dean Dyche of 
Moundridge, and Christian Heidi (Rob) Bolton of Alden; six 
grandchildren, Laura Vitanova, Courtney Johnson, Jessica Dyche, 
Elizabeth Dyche, Eric Hostetler and Emma Bolton; and six 
great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers and one sister; and his previous wife. Cremation
 is planned. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 
15, 2023, at Alton United Methodist Church, 408 Mill St., Alton.

Rita Katherine Schwarz (Juenemann)

Dalton Lynn Frost, 30, passed away on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023, at his home in Gorham, KS.&nbsp;

Dalton and his identical twin brother, Dakota, were born on September 16th, 1992,&nbsp;in Hays, KS to Gerald and Vickie Frost. His childhood and school years were spent spread between Salina, Russell and Natoma, KS.&nbsp;His adult life was spent mainly in Colorado and Russell working in the fencing business and in several different areas&nbsp;in the oilfield. He was one of the hardest workers anyone ever knew.

Dalton and his twin were daredevils from the start and lived life at full speed. He loved being in the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, going to the lake, or just driving on country roads for hours.&nbsp;There wasn’t a mechanical issue that he couldn’t solve or a tool he couldn’t reinvent to get the job done. He loved cracking open a cold one and shooting the breeze with his friends and family. His daughter, Kenlee, was his world and he did anything and everything he could for her. Dalton never knew a stranger because anyone he met automatically became his friend. His big smile, loving hugs and great sense of humor would make&nbsp;anyone’s day better. He would do anything for anyone&nbsp;and was selfless to a fault. His family, daughter and close friends meant everything to him&nbsp;and&nbsp;are the reason he stayed on Earth as long as he did.&nbsp;

He was&nbsp;preceded&nbsp;in death by his twin brother, Dakota; his paternal and maternal grandparents; three uncles; two aunts; and a niece.

He is survived by his mother, Vickie Frost (Leonard Boese) of Susank, KS; his father, Gerald Frost of Russell, KS; his daughter, Kenlee Peterson, and his son, Jaxon Casper, both of Russell, KS; his sister, Amanda Fabian Valadez (Enoe) of Russell, KS; his sister, Amber Frost of Lawrence, KS; his brothers Shane Michaelis and Ethan Frost (Justus), both of Russell, KS; his many beloved nieces and nephews: Braden, Gianna, Arya, Isabella, Briley, Haven, Zane, Nevaeh, Alieah, Matteo,&nbsp;Little Ethan, Ryker, Valencia, and Xavier; and by many special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

There will be a gathering at Pohlman&nbsp;Varner Peeler Mortuary on&nbsp;Friday, April 14, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to sign the guest book, visit with the family, pay respects and&nbsp;view memory&nbsp;boards. At a later, warmer date, a larger celebration of life event will take place outdoors. When the date, time, and location of this event are decided, they will be announced by both the mortuary and family.&nbsp;Cremation has been chosen and there will be no internment at this time.&nbsp;

Rick Jones, 60, died on Friday, April 7, 2023, at St Catherine Hospital 
in Garden City. He was born on November 28, 1962, in Garden City the son
 of Jim &amp; Janet (Rice) Jones. He married Jeanna Snodgrass on 
October 10, 1985, in Garden City. 
Rick graduated from Garden City High School. He attended Arts School in 
Colorado Springs. After his schooling he returned to Garden City to 
work at Lee Richardson Zoo. He moved to Scott City and worked as a 
Mechanic and later at Weichman Feedyard. In 2002, he had a conversion in
 life and started being mentored by Pastor Bruce Ferguson at the Healy 
United Methodist Church and began lay speaking at churches. He 
graduated Seminary with his degree in Theology and was ordained a United
 Methodist minister. He served churches in Grainfield, Gove, Bucklin, 
Hebron, Nebraska, and Chester, Nebraska, before moving back to Garden City 
in 2019. He loved his Harley motorcycle and was a life member of ABATE 
of Kansas and a Patriot Rider. He also was the Chaplain and member of 
the Eagles Lodge in Garden City. 
He is survived by his 2 Daughters- Kirsten Mieth-Overton and husband 
Brandon of Wichita and Candice Jones of Newton, North Carolina, Father- 
Jim Jones of Garden City, Brother- Jeff Jones of Scott City, Fiancé 
-Sharyn Baybayan of Chester, Nebraska and 3 Grandchildren- Adrienne 
Mieth-Overton, Henry Mieth-Overton and Annie Mieth-Overton all of 
Wichita. He was preceded in death by his Mother. 
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in

Lila Jean Leitner, 89, died on April 8, 2023, at Linden Court Retirement
 Home in North Platte, NE. She was born on August 4, 1933, to Herman and
 Luella Solko. She attended the Walsh Country School before moving to 
Trenton, Nebraska. Lila was united in marriage to Robert J. Leitner on 
March 29, 1951. 

Lila was a member of the Christian Mother’s Altar 
Society in Herndon, Kansas. She worked various jobs throughout her life,
 including Pooch’s Egg Produce, Allacher Drapery, Herndon Bank and 
Herndon Insurance Agency, plus working alongside her husband on the farm
 and Leitner Oil Company. 

Lila enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and 
playing Pinochle. What she truly enjoyed was her grandchildren, whom she
 loved very much. 
Lila was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; her parents; 
brother Robert Solko; and brothers-in-law, Robert Horinek and Andy 
Anderson. 
Survivors include her six children, Linda (Albin) Ruzicka, Stratton, NE,
 Roger (Bonnie), St. Augustine, FL, Sam, Arvada, CO, Connie (Robert) 
Herzog, Peoria, AZ, Mary (Ray) Carlson, North Platte, NE, and David 
(Kathy), Atwood, KS; her twelve much loved grandchildren and eleven 
great-grandchildren; and sisters, Betty Horinek and Shirley Anderson. 
Visitation is 6-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12,

Lila Jean Leitner

Linda (Terrell) Romey, age 63 of Norton, Kansas, losing her battle to Cancer, passed away April 6, 2023, at Norton County Hospital with her husband Terry and family by her side. She was born on May 19,1959 in Norton, Kansas, to Kenneth and Betty (Kendall) Terrell. Linda graduated from Norton High School in 1977. Continuing her education at Fort Hays State graduating with a BA in Accounting and Art. After college, she started her career as a counselor at the Kansas Department of Corrections in Norton until her retirement.&nbsp;

Terry was Linda’s Farrier and from there they started a long-term relationship. Linda and Terry were married on September 29, 2017.

Linda was an animal lover, leaving behind her faithful horses Sherry and Dakota. She loved working in her garden and flower beds. In 1996, Linda and friends started Second Chance Pets where she presided as President until her illness. Through this organization, they were able to save countless dogs’ lives by getting them adopted. Linda was the proudest of her grandchildren. When interacting with the babies, you could see the twinkle in her eyes. Linda was also a huge KU, KC Royal, and KC Chiefs fan.

She was proceeded in death by her father Kenneth.

She is survived by; Husband Terry, Mother Betty Terrell, Norton, Sister Debra Terrell, Norton, Brother Mike Terrell, Norton, three stepchildren, Jake (Bethany) Romey, Ellis, Audra (Scott) McAdoo, Russell, Analise (Chaeney Blaize) Romey, Wichita; Four grandchildren; Robert Joseph (RJ) and Paisley Grace Romey, Adley May and Amelia McAdoo; and four nieces and one nephew.

A visitation and vigil for Linda will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, 10:00, at Plumer-Goober Funeral Home, 215 West Main St. Norton, Ks 67654. Linda and Terry were married on September 29, 2017.Linda was an animal lover, leaving behind her faithful horses Sherry and Dakota. She loved working in her garden and flower beds. In 1996, Linda and friends started Second Chance Pets where she presided as President until her illness. Through this organization, they were able to save countless dogs’ lives by getting them adopted. Linda was the proudest of her grandchildren. When interacting with the babies, you could see the twinkle in her eyes. Linda was also a huge KU, KC Royal, and KC Chiefs fan.She was proceeded in death by her father Kenneth.She is survived by; Husband Terry, Mother Betty Terrell, Norton, Sister Debra Terrell, Norton, Brother Mike Terrell, Norton, three stepchildren, Jake (Bethany) Romey, Ellis, Audra (Scott) McAdoo, Russell, Analise (Chaeney Blaize) Romey, Wichita; Four grandchildren; Robert Joseph (RJ) and Paisley Grace Romey, Adley May and Amelia McAdoo; and four nieces and one nephew.A visitation and vigil for Linda will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, 10:00, at Plumer-Goober Funeral Home, 215 West Main St. Norton, Ks 67654. Burial will be at the Norton Cemetery.&nbsp; Mourners are asked to bring their horses and mules (not necessary) to the funeral home to give Linda her last ride to the cemetery.&nbsp; Call Terry for details 785-656-0957.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made to Second Chance Pets, in care of the mortuary.
