Mary “Cookie” Youngers, of Kingman died May 25, 2023 at the age of 81.&nbsp;

She was born Nov. 20, 1941 in Colwich, Kansas the daughter of Bill and Alvine Linnebur.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mary attended school in Colwich and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Wichita in 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1976 she graduated from the Chicago School of Decorating and was an entrepreneur of a business in Kingman called Interiors By Mary.&nbsp;&nbsp;After thirty years, she retired in 2006.

She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the Altar Society, all of Kingman.

She married Norman Youngers in 1960 at Colwich; he survives.&nbsp;&nbsp;Other survivors include six children Kevin (Dawna) Youngers, Tina (Scott) Ludwig, Sheila Hooker, Lesa (Rob) Roser, Gary (Gina) Youngers and Mona (Shane) Dreiling; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way in September.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Don (Berdella), Wayne (Luella), Father Leroy Linnebur; and sisters Juanita (Mike) Mohr, Sister Mary Ruth and Helen (John) Youngers; nephew Fr.&nbsp;David Linnebur.

Visitation will be at St. Patrick’s Church in Kingman beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a parish rosary following at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2023 also at St. Patrick Catholic Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Marjorie E. Elder, age 94, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on December 16, 1928, in Meade, Kansas, the daughter of John Frederick &amp; Vergie Irene Morrison Baker.&nbsp; 

A resident of Wichita County, Kansas since 1941 moving from Stratton, Colorado, she was a homemaker and co-owner and operator with Gloria Long of The Sewing Box. &nbsp;

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Leoti, Kansas, Clerk for the Presbyterian Church, and a moderator of the United Presbyterian Women, and the Patchwork Quilters Guild in Leoti, Kansas.

On April 2, 1950, she married LeRoy “Buck” Elder in Leoti, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on December 7, 2005, in Leoti, Kansas.

Survivors include her Vaughn and Tina Elder of Leoti, Kansas, daughters Brenda Moody of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Karen Elder and Ron Rice of Antonino, Kansas, Richelle Elder of Santa Fe, New Mexico, granddaughters&nbsp; Tissha and Josh Brumm of Wellesley, Mass, Tirra and Jordan Carter of Scott City, Kansas; and eight great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Gordon Baker, and sister Arlene Green.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church in Leoti, Kansas with Pastor Steve Payne presiding.

John Robert Atkins, 54, of Norton, Kansas passed away on May 23, 2023. John was born in Newton, Kansas to Ardis and James “Ray” Atkins on October 12, 1968. 

He attended Inman High School and Kansas State University.

John worked for Prairie Land Electric Cooperative for 16 years and was currently serving as the Director of Member Services. 

John is survived by his wife Stephanie (Shrader) Atkins; his children Alec Atkins, Drew Atkins, and Matthew Atkins; his parents Ardis and James “Ray” Atkins of Inman, Kansas; his sister June (Terry) Modlin of McPherson, Kansas; two nieces; two nephews; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.

John Robert Atkins

Kenneth Gene Folsom, age 82, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away at Memorial Hospital on April 25, 2023 with his family by his side.

Ken was born on September 5th, 1940, in Great Bend, Kansas, to George and Helen Folsom. He was the youngest of three children. He grew up in Hoisington, Kansas, where he enjoyed hunting at Cheyenne Bottoms and fishing at Lake Barton with his dad. 

In high school he played football for the Hoisington Cardinals, played trumpet in the dance band, and sang tenor in the boys’ quartet. It was at Hoisington High School in 1956 that Ken met his future wife, Judy.

After graduation from Hoisington High in 1958, Kenneth pursued a degree in music education at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. While in college he directed the Blue Dozen Brass Ensemble and sang in the Bethany Oratorio Society. Upon graduation in 1962 he accepted a position in Hays, Kansas teaching music to junior high and elementary students in the public school system.

In 1963 Kenneth married his high school sweetheart, Judith Reimer and they made their home in Hays, Kansas. Together they welcomed two daughters, Sarah and Jennifer.

In 1969 Ken completed his master’s degree at Fort Hays Kansas State College and was promoted to Director of Bands at Hays High School. One of his fondest memories from Hays High was taking the marching band to Kansas City to perform at half-time for the Chiefs.

In 1977, he transitioned from teaching, into the business realm, and became a commodities broker. He worked as a broker in Hays for 25 years becoming owner/president of Daco, Inc.

Ken was elected twice to the Hays Board of Education serving a term as president; he was also president of the Hays Chamber of Commerce in ‘88. Throughout his time in Hays, Kenneth was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was on their finance and endowment committees. 

He played trumpet in The Fort Hays State Symphony Orchestra for 30 years and many years in the Hays Brass Quintet.

Ken was known for his love of big band music—music that was sure to put dancers “In the Mood.” He assembled an 18-piece band of talented musicians in 1983 and started rehearsing. The Hays Big Band became a hit, playing at venues across Kansas for benefits and festivals, but ultimately for “the love of music.”

Ken and Judy moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2005 and Ken retired from his commodities business a few years later. In Colorado he enjoyed singing in the First United Methodist Church Choir while also serving on the church Finance and Sacred Concert Series Boards. For several years, Ken served on the finance committee for the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony and enjoyed attending their concerts, ensembles, and fundraisers.

Ken leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 years, Judy Folsom; his sister Joan Tenbarge of Newton, KS; daughters Sarah Schumacher (Brad) of Hays, KS, and Jennifer Miller (Hanford) of Monument, CO; and loving grandchildren Hope, Hanford, Owen, Noah, and Isaac, and nieces and&nbsp;nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Wayne.

Family will be receiving friends and family beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the Hays First United Methodist Church. The memorial service is at 10:00 a.m. with lunch to follow at 11:00 a.m.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony or The Fort Hays State University Music Department.

James “Jim” E. Kelley passed away on May 25th, 2023, at his home in Grainfield, KS at the age of 64. Jim was born on September 11th, 1958, in Colby, Kansas to the late Emmett and Elsie (Howe) Kelley.

He grew up in the Colby and Hoxie area and attended school in both the Hoxie and Logan school districts, graduating from Logan High School in 1976. He attended Goodland Vo-Tech after graduation. 

Jim was married twice and was blessed with three children.

He held many jobs throughout his life: working at Goetz Feedlot, then under Dale Goetz. He worked construction for several years with Jake Wilderman and Darrell Zerr. Later in life he found employment with Paul and Tyler Breeden as a farm worker.

Jim enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake with friends. For entertainment, Jim enjoyed watching professional wrestling and had a large collection of movies. He liked to BBQ and spend time with his family and his girlfriend Evy Wilson.

Jim is survived by his daughters Amanda Greene of Topeka, Kansas, and Amber Hatch (Kyle) of Grainfield, Kansas; brothers Ron Kelley (Mary) of Ness City, Kansas, Don Kelley, and Arley Kelley of Natoma, Kansas; and grandchildren Kaylie and Kellie Greene, and Natasha, Grant, and Connor Barnett.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emmett and Elsie Kelley; son Kenny Greene; and sisters Arlene Oldham and Peggy Larson.

A visitation and funeral service is planned for Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, rural Sheridan County. The visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. and the service will start at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in the Mount Pleasant Community Cemetery.

He worked construction for several years with Jake Wilderman and Darrell Zerr. Later in life he found employment with Paul and Tyler Breeden as a farm worker.Jim enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake with friends. For entertainment, Jim enjoyed watching professional wrestling and had a large collection of movies. James William Treadway, 82, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at his home in Russell, Kansas.

James was born on January 02, 1941, in Fayetteville, West Virginia, the son of James and Edith (Thomas) Treadway.&nbsp; He grew up and attended schools in Fayetteville, West Virginia.&nbsp; 

In 1958, at age 17 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for 20 years.&nbsp; He fought in the Vietnam war for 12 months and was awarded many military honors including the Purple Heart.&nbsp;

 He found true love &nbsp;later in life, for the past 15 years he was with Denise; and they were married April,7 2023, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; 

After serving his country he learned the art of being a locksmith and worked for a locksmith company in Spearfish, South Dakota for many years.&nbsp; He also worked for a casino in Deadwood, South Dakota for 15 years as a casino supervisor.&nbsp; 

He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, reading mysteries and playing board and card games.&nbsp; He really enjoyed drawing and painting and was an amazing artist.&nbsp; He was a devoted grandpa and was so proud of all his grandchildren.&nbsp; Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and enjoyed being with and taking care of his wife Denise with whom he adored.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Surviving family include his wife Denise of the home, daughters Lisa Treadway of Sydney, Montana, Diana Treadway of Spearfish, South Dakota and Shaunna Spurlock and husband Aaron of Sweet Home, Oregon; stepchildren Taylor Daniel of Russell, Kansas and stepdaughter Vonnie Norris and companion Wes Baker of Redding, California; half-brother Michael Jones of Dayton, Ohio and ex-wife Eileen Treadway of Ekalaka, Montana; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bobby Cavandash.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date at the WaKeeney Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Vivian Ruth (Garrett) Betts, 90, of Russell, Kansas, and formerly of Dorrance, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, May 26, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Vivian was born May 22, 1933 on the family farm north of Dorrance.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Adam and Chloe (Essig) Garrett.&nbsp; 

She grew up on the family farm and attended country schools until the third grade when her family moved into Dorrance.&nbsp; She graduated from Dorrance High School in 1950.

Vivian met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to LeRoy W. “Tiny” Betts on April 10, 1951 in Dorrance.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three angelic sons, Alan, Roger and Brian.&nbsp; They made their home on military bases around the world until LeRoy retired from the military.&nbsp; Then they moved from San Diego, California to Salina, Kansas and then moved to Dorrance in 1971.&nbsp; Then they moved to Russell in 1976.&nbsp; LeRoy preceded her in death on February 14, 2010.

Vivian was a devoted wife and homemaker for her boys.&nbsp; She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Dorrance, V.F.W. Post 6240 Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary of Dorrance.&nbsp; She enjoyed gambling and spending time with her family and friends.

Vivian is survived by her son Alan Betts and wife Jan of Hays, Kansas; companion Kenny Shepman of Russell, Kansas; daughters-in-law Sheila Betts of Shattuck, Oklahoma and Trudy Betts of Ankeny, Iowa; four grandchildren, Shawn, Amber, Joshua and Ashley.

He is survived by his amazing wife, Janet Bouchey, their five kids, a whopping ten grandkids, and even a great-grandchild. His departure has left a void in the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Let's talk about Jim's wild side first. In his younger days, Jim had a need for speed. A dirt racetrack was his playground, and he raced like a pro at various speedways in the midwest in his blazing red #2 car. Jim also had a passion for raccoon hunting. He had a talent for tracking down those masked critters with his canine partner in crime, Boomer. Together, they were a prolific team, hauling in more fur trades than you could imagine.&nbsp;

When it came to cars, Jim was a self-taught car expert. He could fix anything and had the skill to transform a beater into a shiny, purring beauty.&nbsp;

Jim also knew the value of relaxation. Fishing was his ultimate downtime activity, where he could cast his line, reel in a catch, and wear a big ol' grin on his face. Those moments spent by the water were like medicine for his soul, fostering lifelong friendships along those banks.

For a good part of his life, Jim took to the open road as a semi-truck driver. His rig proudly displayed the words "Yesterday's dream, today's nightmare," capturing his sarcastic take on life.&nbsp;

Jim had the extraordinary ability to befriend anyone he encountered. He had a knack for assigning nicknames to those around him (whether you wanted one or not). His quick wit, contagious laughter, and infectious smile were his trademarks.

Although Jim may no longer be with us, his memory will forever remain vivid. Rest easy, big Jim. May your spirit find eternal peace, your radiant smile illuminate the heavens, and your sharp banter impress even the Big Guy above.

June Joyce Speer, 89, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on March 19, 2023, after contracting COVID 19.

June was born on June 5, 1933, in Webb City, Oklahoma. She was one of four daughters of Elmer L. and Hannah M.A. Hendricks. Born during the Great Depression, and in the exact center of the Dust Bowl, June's formative years were marked with many relocations while her father frequently moved his family in pursuit of work. 

June loved storytelling and often spoke of the years she lived in the Seattle area, where she still has family. June was bright and witty, excelling at math and English, she graduated from Dighton Kansas High School in 1951 with the highest GPA in her graduating class while also capturing the heart of one of the county's most eligible bachelors. While in high school in Scott City, June met and fell in love with Paul Everett Speer. They were married on New Year’s Eve during her senior year of high school. Paul and June agreed that it would be great to have one boy and one girl to round out their family. They were very pleased with their progress when their first-born was a boy. However, it took five more attempts to get that precious little girl. Yes, five boys in a row and then one girl. While raising their own six children, June and Paul frequently extended their home to anyone in need. June was a compassionate and caring individual, always willing to help people and open her home to others in order to lend a helping hand. Her household, backyard, garage, and bunkhouse were always abuzz with kids of all ages. June (with the support of her husband Paul) cultivated an environment that truly felt inviting, nurturing, accepting, and safe. June loved to read. Suffice it to say that family teased her about having a library in every room of the house. On Halloween (or any other opportunity) she would give books instead of candy to kids. She was also known to carry kid’s books in her trunk, in the event she had the opportunity to delight a youngster with a book. She loved that the neighborhood kids called her "The Book Lady" and knew they only had to ring her doorbell to get their next book. June was predeceased by her husband, Paul, her mother, and father, and her three sisters.

She is survived by her five sons, her daughter, and their spouses: Steven and Deanna Speer, Jeffery and Sandy Speer, Daniel and Kandi Speer, Clay and BeBe Speer, Anthony Speer, and Tonja and Gina Bonfiglio-Speer. June is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. A graveside gathering will be held at the Dighton Memorial Cemetery, at noon, June 3rd, 2023.

Arlene M. (Brungardt) Jones – age 82 passed away and was baptized into the Hope of Christ’s Resurrection Sunday, May 14, 2023, at her home in Fenton, Missouri.

She was born April 30, 1941, on the family farm at Victoria, Kansas to Joseph J. and Angela (Befort) Brungardt.

Arlene is survived by her beloved husband, Michael T. Jones for over 44 years; dearest mama of Christine “Chrissy” Jones and Darren (Kim) Jones; loving grandma of Kaylee Jones; dear sister of Kenneth (Bertha) Brungardt; Robert (Shirley) Brungardt; Edward Brungardt; Richard (Olga) Brungardt; Terri Christian; dear sister-in-law of Robert Jones and Sherri Koehne; our dear aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Angela Brungardt; her sisters, Regina Richards; Maryann Cushing; and her brother, Joseph Brungardt.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday May 30, 2023, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis Victoria, Kansas.

Andrew Wade Boettcher, 16, of Russell, passed away on May 21, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center with his family by his side from injuries sustained in an accident.&nbsp;

Andrew was born January 19, 2007 in Hays, Kansas, the son of Wade M. Boettcher and Amber M. Oliver. He was living in Russell and attended Russell High School. He has been very active with wrestling and football since third grade. He enjoyed playing online video games, spending time in the weight room and hanging out with his family and friends.

Andrew was the kid that always tried to do the right thing even when no one was looking. He never wanted praise or glory. It was no surprise to his family that he chose to be an organ donor. He will continue to help others with his donations.

Andrew’s surviving family include his mother Amber Oliver of Russell, Kansas; father Wade Boettcher of Russell, Kansas; brothers Austin Boettcher of Hays, Kansas and Dax Hoop of Russell, Kansas; sister JoHanna Boettcher of Russell, Kansas; aunt Shauna Pfaff (Matt) of Leonardville, Kansas; maternal grandparents Mike and Lisa Winkleman of Haysville, Kansas; paternal grandparents Paul and Delores Boettcher of Russell, Kansas; cousin Cody Pfaff of Leonardville, Kansas; and nephews Noah and Lincoln.

The funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. A private burial of ashes will take place at a later date. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Eldon passed away peacefully on May 25, 2023, after losing his battle to cancer. He was born November 2, 1953, in Lyons, Kansas, the son of James and Virginia (Werther) Foster. 

Eldon was a graduate of Bushton High School, class of 1971, and of Barton County Community College and National College.&nbsp;

He married Beth Kaiser in Bushton on June 14, 1975. 

Eldon always remembered their anniversary when he saw the flags flying at Veterans Park on his way to work as a technician for the Rural Electric Company, working there for 36 years and then as a customer service sales support at Straub International and Protective Equipment Testing. He retired in 2019 and moved to Manhattan in 2021.&nbsp;

The proudest accomplishment of his lifetime were his children and their families. He enjoyed family vacations, travel adventures with friends, golfing, skiing, hunting, camping at Wilson Lake and Table Rock Lake, riding Rzrs at the sand dunes and mountains, spending time at the farm, and playing dominoes and cards with family and friends. He also loved watching the grandkids compete at sporting events and trap shooting.&nbsp;

Eldon loved to stay busy, whether it was tinkering in the garage or helping others; he couldn’t sit still. In the fall, he never missed a Kansas State football home game. He often looked forward to a good Crown and Coke with his friends and was always up for any adventure with his best friends, Curtis and Kathy Hitschmann.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Beth of the home; daughter Keri (Suppes), and her husband Chad, of Hays; son Brian and his wife Christie, of Manhattan; five amazing grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kale Suppes of Hays, Raegan, Jackson and Justin Foster of Manhattan; five sisters, Joyce (Bruce) Martin of Wichita, Barbara Applanalp of Wichita, Marilyn Elder of Grand Island, Nebraska, Karen (Gerald) Oetken of Larned, Myra (Norman) Habiger of Bushton, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home. Cremation will take place following services.

Vicki Lynn was born on February 3rd, 1945, the daughter of Walter W “Bud” and Velda “Wheeler” Shearmire of Modoc, Kansas.

She grew up in Modoc and graduated from SCHS in 1962.

In May after graduation, she began working at the IGA grocery store in Scott City where she worked until 1971. Moving after marriage, she worked for Presto stores in Satanta and Dighton, then moved to Leoti, KS in 1974.

In December of 1974, Don and Vicki began managing the Leoti Lanes Bowling Alley for 11 years. Don was a meat cutter and Vicki worked at Dairy King while managing the bowling alley. Later Vicki worked at the Leoti Standard newspaper for 18 years.

Vicki enjoyed sports and watched her kids and grandkids’ activities.

She is survived by her three children – Marti (Dorothy) Bremer, Ron Bremer, and Mindi Bremer; 12 grandchildren – Justin (Shelby) Bremer, Kyle (Jaylyn Dirks) Bremer, Trae (Jewell) Bremer, Tailar (Seth) McGregor and four other grandchildren; great-granddaughter Mayzee, one on the way, and one other great-granddaughter; brother Randy Shearmire; and several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Wennie Shearmire, Terry Shearmire, sister-in-law Kathi Shearmire, daughter-in-law Brenda Bremer, nephew Cary Shearmire; great-nephew Jamie Dyer; and&nbsp; great-grandson Josiah Seth McGregor.

Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, June 1st, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. - noon and a come and go with family and friends from noon-2:00 p.m. at the Leoti Golf Course Club House.&nbsp;

Darlene Mae Imm of Phillipsburg, Kansas passed away May 19, 2023, at the age of 93 at the Phillips County Hospital. &nbsp; She was born May 31, 1929, in rural Phillips County, Kansas. &nbsp;The daughter of Charlie and Bertha (Johnson) Babcock, Darlene was the third of eight siblings. &nbsp;

Growing up, Darlene rode the family horse, Midge to the Deer Creek Grade School about a mile away. &nbsp;She played the clarinet in the high school band and rode to school with her friend, Betty Shellito, in a little red coupe with curtains on the windows. &nbsp; She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1947. &nbsp;

&nbsp;On January 21, 1948, Darlene married Lewis Dean Imm in the First Christian Church Parsonage. &nbsp; Lewis Dean and Darlene lived the first 14 years of their married life 12 miles northwest of Phillipsburg. &nbsp;Darlene was a hard working farm wife, working side by side with her husband and father-in-law while raising her children. &nbsp;When the boys became old enough to help, she had more time to devote to her passion of gardening. They moved to their farm south of Phillipsburg in 1961, and resided there until they moved into Prairie Wind Villa. &nbsp;They marked their 75th wedding anniversary in January of 2023 with a family celebration. &nbsp;

To this union three children were born: &nbsp;a daughter Marcia, and two sons Tony, and Corey. &nbsp;

On November 26, 1967, Lewis Dean Imm and wife, Darlene Imm along with their son, Tony confessed their faith in the Lord and on December 3, 1967, they were baptized into the First Christian Church of Phillipsburg, Kansas by Reverend Don Macy. &nbsp; Darlene’s brother, Terry Babcock, was also baptized that day.

Darlene was a charter member of Deer Creek 4-H Club where her mother was the community leader. &nbsp;She later became the community leader of Deer Creek and continued in that role for over 35 years for her children and grandchildren. &nbsp;Monthly 4-H club meetings were held in the family basement for several years. &nbsp; Lewis Dean and Darlene continued to be lifetime benefactors to the Phillips County 4-H Fair. &nbsp;

For many years, Darlene served on the Deer Creek Township election board, providing the basement of their home as the polling place.

Darlene was a long-time member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship organization which was very active in the area. &nbsp;She served as treasurer for many years of the local CWF, and was president of the District CWF, coordinating events between churches. &nbsp; The local CWF was instrumental in starting the Community Good Friday Service. &nbsp;She was actively involved in sewing quilts for the Colorado Christian Home, was a Sunday school teacher for many years, Vacation Bible School organizer and teacher, and was chairperson of the funeral dinner committee, serving for many years. &nbsp; The First Christian Church women served back-to-school lunch to the teachers in August. &nbsp;&nbsp;

One of her most enjoyable activities was doing aerobics at the United Methodist Church with her good friend, Frieda Redinger. &nbsp; She loved painting ceramics with her friends and passing that craft on to her grandchildren. &nbsp; In later years, she enjoyed having coffee at the corner with her friends and family. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, son Corey, sister Katherine Hoover and husband Bill of Phillipsburg, brother Clayton Babcock and wife Betty of Lebanon, sister-in-law Gloria Babcock of Phillipsburg, and brother-in-law Ray Imm and wife Joann of Phillipsburg. &nbsp;

Survivors include her husband Lewis Dean, her children, Marcia Jarmer (Tom) of Wichita, Tony Imm (Linda), and daughter-in-law Mandy Imm of Phillipsburg, her brothers Don Babcock and Terry Babcock (Carolyn), of Phillipsburg, sisters Delores Panter (Fred), of Smith Center, Beverly Jarvis (Wendell), Phillipsburg, and Mary Miller (Butch) of Lebanon, Tennessee.&nbsp; Her seven grandchildren include Lance Jarmer (Andra) of Wichita, Dr. Shana Jarmer-Camblin (Jason), Wellington, Anthony Imm (Bailey), Laike Imm, Sophie Imm, Josie Imm, all of Phillipsburg, and &nbsp;Hannah Mongeau (Shane), of Glade. &nbsp;She also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held Wed. May 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Monday and 12:00 to 9:00 Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church or the Phillips Co. Hospital.

 </figure><a href="https://www.olliffboeve.com/obituary/darlene-imm?fh_id=12336">https://www.olliffboeve.com/obituary/darlene-imm?fh_id=12336</a>May 31, 1929 - May 19, 2023Darlene Mae Imm of Phillipsburg, Kansas passed away May 19, 2023, at the age of 93 at the Phillips County Hospital. &nbsp; She was born May 31, 1929, in rural Phillips County, Kansas. &nbsp;The daughter of Charlie and Bertha (Johnson) Babcock, Darlene was the third of eight siblings. &nbsp;Growing up, Darlene rode the family horse, Midge to the Deer Creek Grade School about a mile away. &nbsp;She played the clarinet in the high school band and rode to school with her friend, Betty Shellito, in a little red coupe with curtains on the windows. &nbsp; She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1947. &nbsp;&nbsp;On January 21, 1948, Darlene married Lewis Dean Imm in the First Christian Church Parsonage. &nbsp; Lewis Dean and Darlene lived the first 14 years of their married life 12 miles northwest of Phillipsburg. &nbsp;Darlene was a hard working farm wife, working side by side with her husband and father-in-law while raising her children. &nbsp;When the boys became old enough to help, she had more time to devote to her passion of gardening. Gary R. Hackerott was born 5/19/1937 to Oscar and Ruth (Mason) Hackerott in Osborne, Kansas where he was raised with his four brothers and two sisters.

In 1955, Gary met his future bride Shirley Krug of Russell, Kansas on a blind date, but the calling of California caused him to head west where the promise of a bright future, adventure, and opportunity lay ahead. Gary found work right away as his personality and strong work ethic made him a much sought-after employee.

Soon after, the newlyweds said goodbye to family and friends to return to California. Gary began working various full-time jobs while picking up side-jobs to make a living for his growing family. On November 10th, 1957, a daughter, Brenda was born and on April 12, 1960, a son, Brian also joined the family. While in California, Gary worked for Goodyear Tire and then Fisher Body, a division of General Motors where he worked until 1967 when they moved back to Kansas to be closer to family.Shortly after returning to Kansas, Gary began to work for Randy’s Steaks, a local frozen foods wholesale company supplying food items to restaurants, drive-ins, grocery stores, and schools. Gary bought the business from the retiring owner, and G.H. Food Service was born. Gary successfully owned and operated the business for approximately 20 years providing a great life and living for his family. Gary had friends all across the state of Kansas due to his business and the fact that “he never met a stranger.” During those days, Gary took a risk investing his hard-earned dollars in a new start-up local company, Osborne Industries. As one of the original investors, Gary watched with pride as Osborne Industries grew into the thriving company it is today.After retiring and selling G.H. Food Service, Gary went to work for the city of Osborne to keep himself busy where he took care of Osborne’s parks and cemetery for all to enjoy. Lastly, Gary took great pride watching over and working at the local car wash, whose signage features a depiction of his beloved red 1953 Studebaker Champion.Since childhood, Gary had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing as often as possible. Gary was known to be an “amazing shot,” bagging pheasants, quail, dove, turkey, and deer, just to name a few. Gary enjoyed woodworking as a hobby, in addition to hunting and fishing, with some of his Intarsia work being displayed in homes and businesses in the community. Gary was an early member of the Osborne Gun Club where he helped to develop and build the gun range located next to the Solomon River. Gary was also an early and active member of the local Pheasants Forever Chapter helping them to raise funds for the organization focused on creating wildlife habitat. The annual Youth Fair hosted by the Pheasants Forever Chapter was something Gary was a proud promoter of, teaching young boys and girls (and their parents) the importance of gun safety and the joys of hunting and fishing. The Youth Fair continues to be an event that brings many families from all over the state and surrounding states to Osborne, Kansas each year. Gary was also known to be a great storyteller and local historian as he shared his wisdom, knowledge, and humor along with hunting and fishing tales with anyone fortunate enough to share a “short one” (Crown Royal and Sprite) with him.Gary’s strong spirit, determination, and never give up attitude helped him fight a 12-year long battle with Parkinson’s disease ending 5/23/2023.Dad, you will be greatly missed by your family and many, many friends.
