Oliver Lee Fyfe, was born November 14, 1930, in Ottawa County, KS to William Guy Fyfe and Ethel May (Chayer) Fyfe. He left this world to pass his contagious smile on to others on July 17, 2023, in Oakley, KS at the age of 92. Oliver graduated high school in 1949 from Clay Center, KS and then joined the Kansas Army National Guard. In the early 1950s he moved to Winona, KS with his parents.

Shortly after moving, he met the love of his life through his National Guard family. He married Anna Cecelia Stegeman on February 11, 1956. To this union 4 children were born. Oliver served 34-plus years of military service in the Kansas Army National Guard with his final assignment in the Colby unit. He was highly involved in many community organizations, including the American Legion, Honor Guard, Farm Bureau, Boy Scouts, and FFA. He held key positions in some of these organizations.

Oliver was employed by the Wielands from the early 1950s to 2017. He had a deep love for his family, country, farming and the community. Oliver was well-liked and always had a smile for everyone. He was someone that was respected and approachable. He always said if you talked to someone long enough you would find a commonalty with them. His hobbies included: hunting, reading, staying current with the news and WEATHER, traveling, and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna, his parents, his sister Doris, and his grandsons, Lee and Maverick. He is survived by children, Deborah and Barry Christensen, David and Terri Fyfe, Dorothy and Darrell See, and Dennis and Dulci Fyfe; grandchildren, Steven Wilcox, Rachel and Casey Baker, Justin and Nicole Fyfe, Michaell and Jessica See, Brenda and Kenny Sova, and Erika Way; great-grandchildren, Mallory, Cohen, Carson, Cameron, Cecelia, Sierra, Katelynn, Kylee, Lillian, Bennett, Xavier, Dante, and Ronin; brother John and Nadine Fyfe; sister Emily Henderson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He always had a smile and will be missed by all that have shared his joy for life. Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, KS. The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with burial in the church cemetery and luncheon to follow at the church.

Oliver Fyfe

Randy Lee Basgall, 63, of Hays, Kansas died July the 11, 2023 at Hays Medical Center after a short battle with metastatic cancer. His passing was peaceful, surrounded by his children, who ushered him into the loving arms of God.

Randy was born to Barbara (Schmidt) and Jerome Basgall on August 18, 1959 in Great Bend, Kansas in the family car on the way to the hospital, an event that set the stage for a lifetime of mischievousness and an innate love of vehicles.

 An active member of his church from childhood, above all else, Randy’s enduring love for Christ permeated throughout his entire life.

Albeit ornery at times, Randy's truest nature was rooted in exuberance. He welcomed others with his kind smile, warm heart, and zest for life. A trip into town always took twice as long for Randy because he relished the opportunity to chat with the friends and family he would inevitably bump into.

Randy was a renaissance man, as well as serving for 20+ years as caregiver for his disabled brother, Duane, was delighted in his many careers and hobbies which included cross-country trucking under CB handle "Sonrunner," cement masonry, oil rig roughnecking, rental home management and anything to do with motors and mechanics. He was exceptionally handy at home and car repair, skills he dutifully passed on to his children.

He leaves behind his children, Marlowe (Alec) Fenton of Olathe, KS, Isaac Basgall (AJ Jacks) of Hays, KS and bonus son Charles (Erica) Miller of Lynn Valley, KS; grandchildren Leila, Seeley, Parker, Sophia and Jacob; four siblings, Patty Partridge of Choctaw, OK Mike Basgall of Byson, KS, Duane Basgall of Hays, KS and Marlene Hamit of Springfield, MO plus numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins as well as previous wife Helene (Kasselman) Basgall.

Those who have passed before him include his mother, Barbara (Schmidt) Basgall, father Jerome Basgall, brother, Earl Basgall, twin granddaughters Evelynn and Phoebe, previous wife Dodie (Lewis) Basgall and his best friend, Delilah, the boxer dog.

A celebration of life will be held in Randy's honor on his birthday, the 18th of August 2023 starting at noon at the Hays V.F.W.

Glenda Joyce (Schmidt) Koehn passed away on July 4, 2023, at Greeley County Hospital. She was born in Copeland, Kansas, on April 18, 1933 to Albert N. and Margaret Schmidt. 

She was the youngest of five children, and her first years of school&nbsp;required her to walk across the road to a one-room schoolhouse.

Glenda met and fell in love with Loid Koehn of Montezuma. They were married on September 17, 1950, and later moved to Wallace County in 1960 as a family of five. 

In addition to helping Loid on the farm, Glenda enjoyed photography, quilting, grandkids, crafts, and traveling in their motorhome. 

Glenda was able to celebrate her 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends from across the country, one of her highlights in life.

Preceding her in death were her parents; siblings Donald, Darrel, Dwayne, and Marjorie; husband Loid Koehn; son Stanley Koehn; granddaughter Tori (Cox) Mathias.

Diane Loretta Roulier passed away at the home of her son and daughter in-law, Brad and Amanda (Aschenbrenner) Roulier near Brewster, Kansas on July 4th, 2023.

Diane was born at the family home in Goodland, Kansas on Wednesday, November 27, 1940. 

She met her husband Larry in the summer of 1958; they were engaged that fall. Larry wanted her to move to Brewster to finish her senior year, but she wanted to graduate from Goodland, KS. She graduated for Goodland High School in 1959. 

Larry and Diane were married on August 8th, 1959, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland, Kansas. To this union, they welcomed two sons, Marc and Brad.

Diane was a stay-at-home mom to their two boys and valued family above all else. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren Dara (Roulier) and Jerray Nichols, Brett Roulier, Kara Roulier, and Bryce Roulier, and her great-grandchildren, Ryklin and Jettsyn Nichols.

Diane enjoyed being the daycare provider for her four grandchildren who affectionately called her Meme. She often talked about how much that time with them meant to her. She was also able to go out to Denver for the birth of her second great-grandson Jettsyn Aiden Nichols. She often talked about how special that opportunity was to her. 

Diane was a rock enthusiast, enjoyed gardening in her later years, was an avid book reader and was known for her love of her “pretties.”

Preceding her in death were her husband of 60 years, Larry Leroy Roulier, her parents Paul M. Daniels and Margaret E. (Crocker) Daniels, her in-laws Amedie E Roulier and Wiletta (Rawson) Roulier, her sister Rita (Daniels) Light, her brothers, Paul “Joe” Daniels, Gary Daniels, and Damien (Kenny) Daniels, her brother in-law Dale Light as well other extended family.

Diane is survived by her sister LaDonna (Jim) Corder of Perry, IA, brother Jack (Nancy) Daniels of Muscatine, IA, her sons Marc (Tina) Roulier of Russell, KS, Brad and Amanda (Aschenbrenner) Roulier of Brewster, KS, her grandchildren Jerray and Dara (Roulier) Nichols of Winona, KS, Brett Roulier, Kara Roulier, and Bryce Roulier of Brewster, KS, great-grandsons Ryklin and Jettsyn Nichols of Winona, KS and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Diane was a rock enthusiast, enjoyed gardening in her later years, was an avid book reader and was known for her love of her “pretties.”Preceding her in death were her husband of 60 years, Larry Leroy Roulier, her parents Paul M. BURLINGTON, CO - Duane and Loretta Charles welcomed their firstborn on February 13th, 1956. Debbie was Roberta and Allen’s big sister.

They grew up on the family’s dairy farm north of Flagler with most mornings starting with a hug from Grandpa Cecil. Following in her dad’s footsteps, a bit of mischief was always a possibility. Her childhood was surrounded by her aunts, uncles and cousins which led to close bonds still celebrated at the cousin reunions and visits even on her last day.

In her early adulthood she was blessed with three children ~ Stephen Duane, Lisa Louise and Kimberly Ann. The bond between the four of them was unique and never wavered through time nor miles or even death.

Debbie married Rod Diekman in September of 1994. Together they went from her working for Cargil and him UPS to operating a farm which was started by Rod’s dad, Richard. They were able to add to it growing a variety of crops. There was great pride in sharing space in the harvest field together: Debbie in her combine and Rod bouncing from truck to mechanic to her buddy seat. Rod came into Debbie’s life bringing a strength that supported her through some of her hardest times.

Debbie was well known for her beautiful big, blue eyes, big heart, and quiet demeanor. She was a life-long learner sharing her kindness and compassion with all she met which led to many life-long friends. She chose to share her talents, time, and love with others through the years listening to elementary students read and give spelling words, listening to AWANA kids recite Bible verses to earn patches and helping with VBS, leading exercise classes at The Legacy, preparing taxes through Colorado East Community Action Agency’s free tax clinics, as a county election judge processing ballots and checking in voters, and so many other activities.

Debbie went home to be with her Lord on July 9, 2023. She didn’t intend to give up; she didn’t intend to give in. No, she fought hard. The colon cancer could not be overcome.

Debbie was preceded by her daughter Kimberly Benson, father Duane Charles, father-in-law Richard Diekman, paternal grandparents Esther and Cecil Charles, maternal grandparents Mary and Lester Loutzenhiser and many aunts, uncles and friends that were like family.

Left to cherish her memory and share her legacy are her husband Rod Diekman; son Stephen Benson; daughter Lisa (Shawn) Shryock granddaughters Taylor Ann and Tatiana; stepson Tanner James Diekman (Amanda) and grandchildren Kashlyn, Liv and Colt; mother Loretta Charles; brother Allen (Lora) Charles; sister Roberta (Carlin) Stratton; nieces and nephews Zach Stratton; Christina (Kyle) English; Weston (Jessica) Charles and kids Landon, Luke and Layna; Lyndee (Kyler) Lum and Jordy; Olivia (Blake) Ridgway, along with many cousins and friends that loved her.

David Raymond Kruse, 80, passed away July 16, 2023, at the Thomas County Health Complex in Colby.

He was born in McCook, Nebraska, on August 5, 1942, to Frank and Anna (Schmitt). David grew up in Leoville, Kansas, on the family farm. 

He attended Leoville Elementary and High School, graduating with the class of 1960. 

David served his country as a member of the National Guard. 

Following high school, he attended Fort Hays State College. He was a junior in college when his father passed away, so he returned home and took over the family farm. 

He met Sylvia Degenhardt and married her on May 3, 1967, in Pfeifer, Kansas. They celebrated 56 years of marriage, living on the family farm for 53 years until they retired from the farm and moved to Hoxie.

David was a farmer and rancher all of his life. David worked hard, but he truly enjoyed going camping and fishing with his family. He also loved watching and playing sports, even officiating local basketball and baseball games in the Selden and Leoville area for many years. He loved local car races and would never miss one if the farm work was done. In his later years, David and Sylvia traveled and took many bus tours. They ended up visiting every state in the lower 48 except Washington. 

David was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leoville and the American Legion. 

Most of all, David loved being with and doing things with his family.

David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia, of Hoxie; his sons, David F. of Selden and Brad and wife Lauren of Overland Park, Kansas; his brother Max and wife Jan of Weslaco, Texas; and two grandchildren, Cooper and Allison Kruse.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Kruse; sisters Elaine Chambers, Joan Glotzbach, and brother Dean.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 10:30 a.m., Leoville, Kansas. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Calvary Cemetery. A visitation and vigil service with rosary will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with family receiving family and friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The vigil and rosary service will start at 7:00 p.m. 

Memorials are suggested to the Sheridan County Amusement Company and may be sent in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, P.O. Box 987, Hoxie, Kansas 67740.

Lee William Gerber, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on July 16, 2023, in Wichita, KS. Lee was born to the late Alvin and Catherine (DeTar) Gerber on January 31, 1950, in Fowler, KS.&nbsp;

Lee was a proud graduate of the University of Kansas, where he earned a degree in pharmacy. 

Not only did pharmacy provide him a long career of over 40 years, it also led him to find the love of his life, Margo Beyrle. They married on June 11, 1976 and went on to have three children. His love for his children and grandchildren was apparent in every aspect of his life, from his dedicated work ethic to his active involvement in all of their lives, which included attending many sporting events over the years.&nbsp;

When he was not cheering for his children and grandchildren, Lee could be found hunting and fishing with family and friends. He looked forward to his annual fly fishing trips which took him to places like Mexico, Alaska, Utah, Wyoming, the Bahamas and Belize. Lee also had a unique sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He carried this trait through to his final hours.

He is survived by his wife, Margo Gerber; his children, Dacy Suellentrop (David), Brett Gerber, and Ryan Gerber (Kristy); eight grandchildren (Lauren and Nolan Suellentrop, Brynlee and Lola Gerber, and Lillian, Landon, Greyson and Aiden Gerber); his three brothers, Chuck Gerber (Connie), Dave Gerber (Dina) and Larry Gerber; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of his loved ones.

Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 19th. Catholic Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 20th. All services will be at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Schulte, KS.

Agnes Ann Ryan, 70, passed away on July 17, 2023, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. She was born on September 25, 1952, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Isadore and Elizabeth (Scheck) Leiker. 

On July 8, 1981, she married John Ryan in Miami, Oklahoma.&nbsp;

A lifetime area resident, Agnes worked as a computer programmer for the Fuller Brush Company for 34 years prior to her retirement in 2012. S

he was a dedicated Catholic, being a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima, active with St. Joseph Catholic Church and School, serving as a “grandfriend” for students, and was even prayed through the gates of Heaven by Father Terrance Klein. 

Agnes enjoyed crocheting and sewing, using her green thumb in gardening, and was an avid funeral goer, offering comfort to all that she knew. Her heart was bigger than her body and she loved with all of it, taking care of everyone and was always ready and willing to help anyone. She didn’t know a stranger.

Agnes is survived by her husband of 42 years, John; two sons, Daniel (Victoria) Ryan of Lindsborg, and Stoney (Angie) Ryan of Ellinwood; three daughters, Amanda “Amy” Crawford of Ellinwood, Tamara “Tammy” (Darren) Dauber of Ellinwood, and Shira Ryan of Lyons; 19 grandchildren, Kyle (Sarah) Ryan, Kaylie (fiancé Matthew Adams) Ryan, Kristian Ryan, Kamryn Ryan, Cassandra Crane, Troy Crane, Kenya (Kaden) Kretzer, Xathan Ryan, Casey Ann Ryan, Paige VanSteenburgh, Ison Dauber, RhiAnn Dauber, Keith Burke, Dalton White, Shayla (Michael) Mills, Zeppelin Zimmerman, Axl Ryan, Jamey Wood, and Ella Mae Lynn Wood; 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way. 

After growing up and living most of her life as an only child, Agnes was blessed after discovering she was the oldest of several biological siblings, including a brother, Seth Hoff; and four sisters, Sandra Peters, Norma Mason, Rita Shannon, and Barbara Calahan.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Taylor Langen and Taylor Wood; a great grandchild, Emmitt Mills; and two sisters, Hilda Shannon and Laura Groneberg.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, Kansas. Further visitation with family receiving guests will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, Kansas, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with vigil starting at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood, Kansas.

Teresa Jean Craven, 74, of Larned, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at Diversicare of Hutchinson, Kansas. Teresa was born July 17, 1948 in Russell, Kansas. She was the eldest of three children born to Arthur “Red” and Frances (Brown) Craven. 

Teresa graduated from Russell High School in 1966.

After completing her associate degree in nursing in 1974 from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas, Teresa began her career as a registered nurse at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays, Kansas. Teresa became the Patient Education Coordinator for St. Anthony Hospital in 1980. Teresa completed training as an enterostomal therapist in 1984 at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1988, Teresa left St. Anthony Hospital to work as a Registered Nurse Senior at Larned State Hospital. 

She retired from 37 years as a registered nurse to care for her aging mother in 2011. After retiring, Teresa worked part-time at the Jordaan Memorial Library in Larned. After her father’s death in 1993, Teresa took over his inventory of Rada cutlery and ran a small business selling knives. She and her mother enjoyed working weekend craft shows together selling knives and Barbie doll clothes.

Teresa is survived by her brother Robert (Charma) Craven of Luray, Kansas and sister Barbara (Patrick) Olsen of Moscow, Idaho; niece Jennifer (Craig) Miller of Wichita, Kansas and nephews Warren (Joanna) Craven of Luray, Kansas and Griffin and Christopher Olsen of Moscow, Idaho; grandnephews Warren Jr., Tyler and Matthew Craven of Luray, Kansas, Reed Thomas, Mack, Curtis and Braeden Miller of Wichita, Kansas; favorite cousins Karen (Jim) Ansell of Paducah, Kentucky, Janet (John) Thurow of Russell, Kansas and dear friend Maggie Russell of Nickerson, Kansas.

Teresa loved nothing more than staying home and drinking a Pepsi while reading a good book, watching a British television show or enjoying an old movie. She enjoyed gardening and shared many tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini with family, friends and neighbors. Teresa loved animals, her favorite being Siamese cats. She shared her home with a succession of cats through the years. Teresa was very thankful that cousin Anliet Milke will provide a loving home for her beloved cat Ricky. Teresa’s neighborhood squirrels will miss the steady supply of corncobs she provided.

There will be no funeral. Plans are being made for a private family inurnment at the Russell City Cemetery.

Robert C. Craig, Jr., 72, of Munden, passed away July 11th.

Robert Craig Jr., was born in Clay Center, Kansas, on February 10, 1951, to loving parents JoAnn (Cousins) Craig and Robert Craig, Sr., and died on July 11, 2023 at the age of 72 in Republic County, Kansas. 

Before he was four, he, along with his parents and twin sisters moved to the farm south of Talmo, Kansas. At this early age, he acquired his first horse, a pony named Spot. This union created a horseman out of Bobby that he cherished for the rest of his life. 

He attended country school in Talmo by riding a horse to school daily. He attended Jr. High in Agenda, and then moved onto Hillcrest High School, graduating in 1968.

At an early age Bobby learned to throw a rope and&nbsp;continued to use this ability for the rest of his life. He loved calf roping, a good calf horse, and competition. He participated in Kansas High School rodeos, along with open rodeos, throughout his teen years.&nbsp; At the Kansas State High School Rodeo in 1967, Bobby was the Champion Calf Roper.

Bobby had an outstanding sports career while in high school, participating in track and football, winning many races and scoring many touchdowns. His running took him to state track meets, and he set school records that stood for several years after high school. His ability and love for the game of football landed him on many league and state rosters.

After high school Bobby continued his rodeo career in calf roping and team roping, giving him lifelong friends. He was blessed by God to have an affinity for training horses that was acknowledged and respected.&nbsp; He was proud of the fact that he was the one who broke and trained the AQHA Hall of Fame stallion, Two-Eyed Jack, a horse that has had a lasting impact on the quarter horse breed.&nbsp; Bobby was also influenced and taught by great horsemen like Mitch Fectinier, and he, in turn taught and influenced many others in the rodeo and horse industry.

On May 27, 1971, Bobby entered into the Army, stationed at Fort Ord, California. This took him many miles from Kansas, with time at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was later honorably discharged back to the Kansas Army National Guard to complete his six-year obligation. While in the service he was awarded two sharpshooter badges with his M-16 rifle.

Bobby built and maintained his small feedyard on the family farm, along with farming with his dad until the disaster agriculture year of 1982. 

Bobby married Rebecca Jean Strnad on September 29, 1984, in Munden, Kansas. The following February, Bobby and Becky moved to Ingalls, Kansas, where Bobby managed Loewen Feeders.

From Loewen Feeders he moved onto Winter Feed yard, then eventually to DM&amp;M Feed yard in Cimarron, Kansas, where he found a home for his wife and two children, Robert Craig III born in 1989 and Charlsie JoAnn born in 1992.

Bobby loved getting up early and reading bunks, facing the challenges Dan Miller presented daily. In May of 2003, Bobby moved his family back to Scandia, Kansas, where he managed Premium Feeds until his retirement in 2019. Premium Feeders presented its own challenges for Bobby&nbsp;that included,&nbsp;surviving a large tornado, building an ethanol plant,&nbsp;and the&nbsp;flooding of the Republican River&nbsp;in 2015.

Bobby enjoyed evenings at the family arena, teaching his kids about horsemanship. Dustin&nbsp;(Nothern)&nbsp;entered&nbsp;Bobby’s family when&nbsp;Dustin was 14,&nbsp;and this addition was a blessing to the family.&nbsp;

Bobby Craig lived a life full of hard work, fat cattle, fine horses, fast competition, great horseman, good friends, and close family.

Bobby&nbsp;was&nbsp;preceded in death by his father, Robert Craig, Sr., stepfather, friend, and role model Tom Walker, brother-in-law Robert Pugh, and nephew Cass Reynolds.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Strnad) Craig of their home in Munden, son Robert Craig III of Atkinson, Nebraska; daughter Charlsie (Craig) McKay and her husband Turner of Culleoka, Tenn., Dustin Nothern and his wife Jessica of Ingalls, Kansas; granddaughter Levy JoAnn McKay, grandsons Keegan and Langston Nothern. He is also survived by his mother, JoAnn (Cousins) Craig Walker of Talmo, sister Kathy (Craig) Pugh of Belleville, sister Pam (Craig) Reynolds and her husband Nick of Cuba; sister Marsha (Craig) Nelson and her husband Mike of Smolan, KS; numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at the Zion Evangelical Church, 402 S. Main Street, Munden, Kansas. Burial with military honors will follow at Zion Cemetery, rural Talmo, Kansas. Following the cemetery services, the family invites everyone to the Munden Community Center, 110 S. Main Street, for a luncheon and fellowship.

The family will greet friends on Monday, July 24, starting at 5:30 p.m., at the Zion Evangelical Church in Munden.

On July 20, 1991, he married Arlene Garber in Waverly, Kansas. &nbsp;Together, they raised their two children. &nbsp;Philip was baptized on January 27, 1991. &nbsp;He owned and operated 4J Set-up Service and enjoyed fishing whenever he could.

Philip is survived by his son, Justin (Jessa) Johnson, Collyer, Kansas; daughter, Marisa (Ryan) Dyson, Wabash, Indiana; two brothers, Aaron Baldwin and Jimbo (Shanna) Cann; two sisters, J.J. Moore and Shayrela Cann; three grandchildren, Nelle, Eden, and Samuel; two brothers-in-law, Mark (Cheryl) Graber and Raymond Graybill; three sisters-in-law, Esther (Lynn) Cardin, Sarah (Jonathan) Kessler, and Rachel (Josh) Wray and 24 nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

Rodney Newton “Rod” Thomas peacefully passed away in his sleep on May 20, 2023 in his home in Dighton, Kansas. Rod was born on April 20, 1953, in Cheyenne Wells, CO to Marion and Eloise (Showalter) Thomas.

Rod is survived by his daughter Stacie Thomas Heckathorn, son-in-law Ryan Heckathorn, grandson Landon Thomas, Hayley Metcalfe, great-grandson Beau Thomas; siblings Becky Stormont (Marc), Randy Thomas (Millie), Rick Thomas and many nieces and nephews. 

Rod was preceded in death by his sister Rachelle, his brother Russell, and his parents.

Rod graduated from Dighton High School in 1971. He fully participated in football, basketball, track and cross country. Later on he graduated from DeVry University with an associate degree in information technology.

Rod worked in a wide variety of occupations including early construction on the Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant in Burlington, KS. Later on he traveled around the world trouble shooting information technology issues and repairing office equipment for major banks. Additionally, he was trusted to train his company’s new hires.

In 1993, Rod returned to Dighton to engage in his first love... farming. For 30 years, he was the consummate farmer meticulously taking care of every acre on the Thomas Family Farm. 

In the same way, he loved his family and made them his first priority. Stacie, Ryan, Landon, Hayley and Beau were deeply loved and consistently supported by Rod. He always made himself available for them.

As a member of the Dighton community, Rod was a willing helper taking care of many people by driving them to their medical appointments in Dighton, Scott City, Garden City, Hays, and Wichita. Much of his community work was known only to those individuals he stepped forward to help. He was an avid supporter of Dighton Hornet athletics. Additionally, Rod was a board member on the Garden City CO-OP in Dighton and he served on several farm boards. 

An avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the land and took special care to conserve the resources which the land provided.

A hard-core Kansas State University Cat-backer, he loved hearing the “Wabash Cannonball” being played after a Cat win over the Jayhawks. 

Lastly, Rod was a lifetime friend to countless people. Each was deeply blessed by his presence in their life.

Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at United Methodist Church in Dighton with Rev A.G. Turner officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Rod was born on April 20, 1953, in Cheyenne Wells, CO to Marion and Eloise (Showalter) Thomas. Rod is survived by his daughter Stacie Thomas Heckathorn, son-in-law Ryan Heckathorn, grandson Landon Thomas, Hayley Metcalfe, great-grandson Beau Thomas; siblings Becky Stormont (Marc), Randy Thomas (Millie), Rick Thomas and many nieces and nephews. Rod was preceded in death by his sister Rachelle, his brother Russell, and his parents. Rod graduated from Dighton High School in 1971. He fully participated in football, basketball, track and cross country. Later on he graduated from DeVry University with an associate degree in information technology. Rodney Newton 'Rod' Thomas

Richard Dean Pospichal was born in David City, Nebraska on April 2, 1944. He was the second child of August and Martha (Kobza) Pospichal. His early years were spent on the farm near Dwight, Nebraska. He lived by the cowboy ethics of honesty, dependability, and respect. He was proud of all his children and grandchildren, and he especially enjoyed following their activities, and participating in equine events with his son and grandchildren. He also eagerly anticipated his mountain rides with his friend Doc Smith. Richard and Pat enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to the Faroe Islands. He is survived by his wife Pat of Ingalls, Kansas; son Rick (Gale) Pospichal of Scott City, Kansas; daughters Lisa (Vince) Koons of Meade, Kansas, Sara Pospichal of North Platte, Nebraska, Carrie (Doug) Althouse of Cimarron, Kansas, and Janel (Jeff) Foust of North Platte, Nebraska; seven grandsons, five granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother Mike (Mary) Pospichal of Atkinson, Nebraska, and several nieces and nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Milo. A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Ingalls, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, also at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Fr. Tim Hickey as Celebrant. Paul J. Herrman, 101 years of age, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Paul was born Sepember 8, 1921, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Jacob and Mary (Heronema) Herrman. He was a longtime resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1940 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he was a farmer and oil field mechanic for Phillips 66 before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, Knights Of Columbus Council #2340, and the Virgil C. Dechant 4th Degree Assembly #3550, La Crosse, Kansas. He was a member of VFW Post 3147, and American Legion Post 33, both of La Crosse, Kansas. Paul was a former National Vice President of OCAW (Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers).

He was a World War II United States Army veteran.

On July 23, 1946, he married Angeline “Angie” Dreher in Schoenchen, Kansas. She preceded him in death June 10, 2010.

Survivors include five sons, Joe Herrman (Deb), La Crosse, Kansas, Leo Herrman (Vicki), La Crosse, Kansas, Jim Herrman (Marie), Rose Hill, Kansas, Carl Herrman (Lorna), La Crosse, Kansas, and Thomas Herrman, La Crosse, Kansas; two daughters, Marie Holopirek (Rollie), La Crosse, Kansas, and Ruth Schroter (Jon), La Crosse, Kansas; one son-in-law, Wesley Shannon (Sherleen), Ellis, Kansas; 33 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Herrman, Ames, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Carolyn (Herrman) Shannon; four grandchildren; three brothers, Father Gilbert P. Herrman, Leonard Herrman, and Edward Herrman; and seven sisters, Isabel Basgall, Ruth Risser, Esther Boxler, Irene Raniszewski, Pauline Sutton, Abbie Rupp, and Edna Mehl.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 p.m.

Church visitation will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.

Hays State University.Dean served his country in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; He was stationed at Ft.
