Dean Holmes of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023. &nbsp;

Celebration of Life Service will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 207 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Ness City, KS on Saturday, August 5th, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Ness City Cemetery. &nbsp;The family will receive friends on Friday, August 4th, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dean Holmes was born on July 14, 1937 to Carl and Bernice Holmes. &nbsp;

Dean grew up in Ness County, Kansas. &nbsp;He attended Bazine High School.

What Dean was most proud of was his kids and grandkids, followed by his job as quality control engineer in the construction of the B-2 "Stealth" Bomber.&nbsp;

 &nbsp;He was formerly married to Shirla Bittner Holmes. &nbsp;Four children were born of this marriage, Regina, Lyle, Craig and Jeff. &nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Regina Lovell and husband, John; Lyle Holmes and wife LaDawn; and Craig Holmes and wife, Betty; one brother, Larry Holmes; eight grandchildren, Sarah Holmes, Mitch Holmes, Lindy Waltrip, Amanda Holmes, Tyke Holmes, Jace Holmes, Drake Holmes, and Cassie Haney; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and his special friend of 15 years, Michelle Sander.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Don Holmes, and his youngest son, Jeff Holmes.

Juanita Mae Dinges, 86, passed away on July 24, 2023 at the Cedar Village Care Center in Ness City, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born on November 22, 1936 in Leoti, Kansas the daughter of George and Frances (Berning) Kessler.

Juanita was a hairdresser and worked for Ralph’s Best Yet Supermarket for many years. 

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Altar Society. 

She married Tom Dinges on August 28, 1956, in Marienthal, Kansas. He died on April 29, 2002.

Survivors include her three daughters, Sherry (John) Walker of Ness City, Verlinda Kraft of Ellinwood, Brenda (Howard) Boese of Brownell; son, Darren (Brenda) Dinges of Ness City; brother, Hilary Kessler of Scott City; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom Dinges, and six sisters, Nettie, Josie, Zita, Sister Jenny, Johanna, and Julie.

Funeral service will be on Monday, July 31, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, with burial following in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. A parish vigil &nbsp;and rosary will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 30, 2023 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Ness City Library, the South Ness County EMS, or the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Lenora Mae Boyd, age 98, of Utica, Kansas, died on November 13, 2022, at Rhode Island Suites, Ransom. She was born on October 17, 1924, at the home located south of Pendennis, Kansas to Howard A. and Mildred M. (Mendenhall) Sigsworth.

She attended various county schools in Ness, Lane, and Sheridan counties and her freshman high school year at Sheridan County High School in Hoxie, Kansas. &nbsp;In December 1940, her family moved to Ontario, California where she graduated from Chaffey High School in 1943.

World War II had started in 1941. Convair (now General Dynamics) was building B-24 bombers in San Diego Plant #1. She went to work as a clerk in the welding dept. where she met her husband, C.E. (Gene) Boyd and married in 1945. He was drafted into the Air Corp and was sent to Nuremburg, Germany. She taught school in Gove County while he was away. 

On his return in 1946 they went back to San Diego, he to Convair, and she worked for several years as a department head at a title company.

They parted in 1953. During the next several years, she attended UCLA and Whitties College, became an airline stewardess, taught at a private airline school and at the same time served as the registrar for the school.

In 1957, she went to work processing new business for an agency of New England Life Insurance Co. She worked in this business for the next seven years. 

In 1964, she met and married her second husband, moved to Missouri, and lived on a ranch, co-owned a resort, and co-owned a trucking company. 

In October 1975, they dissolved their marriage, she moved back to Los Angeles, and worked in life insurance business for four years. She bought a home in Riverside County, CA, moved there and worked for a family of farmers who were selling and developing their land for homes, mall, etc. until she retired in October 1989.

She then moved back to Kansas where she resided for the next 33 years. She was active in her church, local library board, welfare of kids in the Youthville organization at the Dodge City Campus.

She never received a college degree even though she attended five different colleges; the courses she took were always pertaining to either her current job or a personal interest at the time. The last course was an IRS course on partnership and corporate taxation at the University of California at Riverside. 

She enjoyed painting flowers, knitting caps and sweaters for kids at Youthville, reading, gardening, and home decorating.&nbsp;

She was proceded in death by both parents, both sisters, all aunts and uncles and fifteen cousins.&nbsp; 

Survivors include two nieces, a stepson, Denzil Hellesen and wife, Shirley of Lebanon, MO and several cousins from the Mendenhall and second cousins from the Sigsworth families.

She requested no visitation and cremation.&nbsp; Graveside committal Service will be held at the Gove County Cemetery on Saturday, July 29, 2023, 10:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to Youthville or the Utica United Methodist Church.

Jeffrey Lee Erb, 62, passed away on July 20, 2023 at the Lane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on May 19, 1961 in Ness City, Kansas the son of Elmer and Verna (Reinhardt) Erb.

Jeffrey was a mechanic. He was a member of a group called Free Tomorrow.

Survivors include three brothers, Stanley Erb of Bazine, Rodney Erb of Ransom, Bradley Erb of Bazine; and a sister, Peggy (Kent) Huxman. 

Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a late date.

Roy Douglas Armstrong, age 71, died at his home in WaKeeney, Kansas on July 21, 2023. &nbsp;He was born in El Paso, Texas on August 27, 1951, the son of JD and Dorothy (Carroll) Armstrong, Sr. &nbsp;

Doug moved to many places with his family until they settled in Liberal, Kansas where he graduated from high school. He then moved to Hays in 1970 and attended Fort Hays State University on a wrestling scholarship. 

Doug worked for the State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment as an Environmental Compliance Regulatory Specialist. He retired in 2014 after 43 years. 

Doug never knew a stranger. He was a hard worker and loved carpentry. He enjoyed sharing his woodworking with others, gardening, and spending time with family and friends telling stories.

Doug is survived by his girlfriend of seventeen years, Doris Epke of Schoenchen, Kansas; his brothers, JD Armstrong, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas and Bobby Armstrong of Bel Aire, Kansas; his daughter, Tamara Delka and her husband, Troy, of Lincoln, Nebraska; his son Ryan Armstrong of Kansas; and two grandchildren, Kieston and Davin Delka.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve Armstrong.

There will not be a public service and the family will have a private memorial at a later date. &nbsp;

Mary Kay (DeWitt) Prickett, age 79, passed away on July 6, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS. She was born on May 27, 1944, in Trego County, KS, the daughter of Dale and Rose (Buell) DeWitt. 

She had four daughters Deborah Hayden (Tom), Christine Wilson (Michael), Brenda Wockenfuss (Brian) and Samantha Pohlman (Corey).

She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Rose DeWitt, brother Richard (Mike) DeWitt, and granddaughter Heidi Hayden. 

In addition to her four daughters, she leaves behind a sister, Della Tomanek (Lynn), brother Ray DeWitt (Jackie), nine grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren and six nieces.

Mary Kay was known as a hard worker, often holding two or three jobs at a time. However, her career and calling was working as a 911 dispatcher at the Trego County Law Enforcement Center, where she served for 37 years alongside her law enforcement family. 

Her proudest achievement was being a mom to her four daughters. She was also a loving daughter, sister, grandmother, “dog mom” and friend. She was ever learning, reading and enjoying her flowers, her dogs (and eventually a cat), and shopping for vintage treasures that she creatively displayed in her home.

She was a proud member of the community, serving on the WaKeeney Public Library Board and the Kansas Library Trustee Association as a Northwest Kansas Library System representative. She volunteered at the Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital gift shop. She was a Democratic precinct committee woman and was politically engaged. She supported all things local and loved that WaKeeney was the Christmas City of the High Plains, so much so, that Santa was often spotted riding with her during the Christmas season.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00, August 18, 2023, at the Western Cooperative Electric Association, 635 S. 13th Street, WaKeeney, KS.

Services will be held at 11:00, August 19, 2023, at the Ogallah Christian Church, 305 Centre Street, Ogallah, KS, with lunch following. A private burial will be held later.

Memorial donations to the Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital can be dropped off at the service or mailed directly to the hospital at 320 N. 13th Street, WaKeeney, KS 67672.

She had four daughters Deborah Hayden (Tom), Christine Wilson (Michael), Brenda Wockenfuss (Brian) and Samantha Pohlman (Corey).She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Rose DeWitt, brother Richard (Mike) DeWitt, and granddaughter Heidi Hayden. In addition to her four daughters, she leaves behind a sister, Della Tomanek (Lynn), brother Ray DeWitt (Jackie), nine grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren and six nieces.Mary Kay was known as a hard worker, often holding two or three jobs at a time. However, her career and calling was working as a 911 dispatcher at the Trego County Law Enforcement Center, where she served for 37 years alongside her law enforcement family. Her proudest achievement was being a mom to her four daughters. She was also a loving daughter, sister, grandmother, “dog mom” and friend. She was ever learning, reading and enjoying her flowers, her dogs (and eventually a cat), and shopping for vintage treasures that she creatively displayed in her home.She was a proud member of the community, serving on the WaKeeney Public Library Board and the Kansas Library Trustee Association as a Northwest Kansas Library System representative. She volunteered at the Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital gift shop. She was a Democratic precinct committee woman and was politically engaged. Bill L. Zimmerman, 73, of Hays, Kansas, died Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Hays Medical Center. He was born December 10, 1949, in Quinter, Kansas to Joseph and Martina (Ziegler) Zimmerman. 

He married Vivian Werth in Hays on May 4, 1974. Bill graduated from Quinter High School, Quinter, Kansas in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War for two years as a combat engineer building helicopter landing pads and roads. He also hauled heavy equipment while in Vietnam. He worked at Allied, Inc. (now APAC) as assistant manager of the Ready Mix and supervised drivers and the maintenance for the fleet of mixer trucks and equipment for almost 40 years before he retired due to health reasons.

He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing, hunting, gardening, and traveling all over the United States on his motorcycle. He was an excellent gardener and was proud to share fruit and produce with friends. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1325, Hays American Legion, Hays VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, Harley Owners Group, the Patriot Guard, and the American Legion Riders. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Hays; four brothers, Fr. Floyd Charles Tuzicka, 85, of Russell, Kansas, and formerly of Hoisington and Olmitz, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, July 24, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Floyd was born April 25, 1938 in rural Olmitz.&nbsp; He was the son of Charles George and Barbara Janice (Dome) Tuzicka.&nbsp; He grew up in Hoisington and attended Hoisington schools.

Floyd served his country in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; He was stationed in Beirut and Lebanon.&nbsp; After his tour was done, he returned to the Olmitz area.

Floyd was united in marriage to Clara Constance “Connie” Hewitt on November 17, 1963 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home in Olmitz.&nbsp; They moved to the Russell area the last couple of years.

Floyd worked for Red Tiger in the oilfields.&nbsp; 

He was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz and later St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp; He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus.&nbsp; He was past commander of the VFW Post in Hoisington and later joined the VFW Post 6240 in Russell.&nbsp; 

He enjoyed hunting, especially bird hunting, fishing and gardening.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Connie of the home.&nbsp; 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Orville Tuzicka.

Celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2023 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell.&nbsp; Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Olmitz, where the Russell V.F.W. Henry “Hank” F. Pierce went home to meet his Lord and Savior on June 2, 2023. He was born on October 27, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Henry Fletcher Pierce, III and Edith Lorraine (Campbell).

Hank graduated from Hays High School in 1954 and received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University in 1961. He was a proud Beta Theta Phi and cherished lifelong relationships with his fraternity brothers. He enjoyed planning and attending their reunions including trips to Branson, Wichita, Colorado Springs, and the Hill Country of Texas. 

He served as a private first class in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1958, and was stationed in Okinawa.

Hank’s successful career started as project manager for Hunter Construction Company from 1961-1966. In 1967, he started Pierce - Schippers Construction Company with his partner, John Schippers. Together they built many of Hays’ iconic buildings including St. Anthony’s Hospital, Hadley Hospital, Gross Memorial Coliseum, Midwest Energy, Rarick Hall, McMindes Hall, Wiest Hall, Hays High School, Midwest Energy, Epworth Towers, Epworth Village, Centennial Towers and St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.

Hank enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, tournament bridge, and poker. He also enjoyed playing recreational basketball, which he did into his later years.

On June 2, 1962, he married Patricia Isbell and they had three daughters: Jane, Carrie and Lisa. Their fondest memories of their dad are golfing and swimming at Smoky Hill Country Club, the houseboat and fishing at Wilson Lake, track meets, bowling, playing Putt Putt, watching sports, eating at Taco Grande, and enjoying his barbecued hamburgers.

On July 15, 1979, he married Mary Lynn Crow and they had two children: Hank and Michelle.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lynn Pierce of Cleveland, OH; his sister Mary Beth (Larry) Sayre of Colleyville, TX; his five children: Jane (Sonny) Lewis of Hays, KS, Carrie Stremel of Hays, KS, Lisa Pierce of Hays, KS, Henry Pierce of Colorado Springs, CO, and Michelle (Sam) Cario of Cleveland, OH; his nine grandchildren: Cody Baker of Hays, Audrea (Salv) Marciano of San Antonio, TX, Amy Stewart of Wichita, KS, Brittany Baker of Hays, Ashley (Aaron) Durbin of Upland, CA, Heather (Jeremy) Dixon of Hays, Jordan (Crysta) Stremel of Denver, CO, Holly Donaldson of Hays, Hannah Donaldson of San Antonio, TX, Alec Cario and Sebastian Cario of Cleveland, OH. Hank also has nine great-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and his sister Patricia Anne Pierce.

In his memory, his daughter, Jane and granddaughter, Audrea, will travel to Scotland in the Spring to visit St. Andrews Links and the highlands of the Campbell clan. It was always their dream to visit their ancestral home and play golf together.

Victor “Vic” Deaver, 82, of Garden City, passed away on July 22, 2023, after battling cancer. Vic was born on January 30, 1941, to Eugene and Ruth Ann Deaver in Quinter, KS. As a young child, Vic moved to Garden City, KS where he lived for the rest of his life. Vic graduated Garden City in 1959 and joined the Army National Guard and served as a field wireman. Vic went on to attended Garden City Community College where he received an associate's degree in business in 1962. Vic married his wife, Janice in 1961. Vic and Janice had their daughter, Trisha in 1966. Vic is proceeded in death by his son, Chad. Vic worked at Golden Plains Credit Union until he retired in 1999 after 33 years of service. Vic retired as executive vice-president of the Credit Union. After retiring, Vic and Janice spent time traveling the country and traveled to all 50 states. Vic was involved with several churches throughout his life serving in a variety of roles. Vic enjoyed racquetball, golf, reading, singing and technology. Survivors include his wife Janice of the home; his daughter Trisha, grandson Brandt Helsel and wife Leatte, granddaughter, Falon Goodman and husband Zach, and great-grandchildren, Brason, Jax, Ella and Logan. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Jeff Starkey officiating. Robert Nick “Bob” Dreiling, 91, Hays, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023 surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

He was born on November 2, 1931, in Ellis, Kansas, the son of Celestine and Bernadette “Nette” (Riedel) Dreiling. &nbsp;

Robert was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. &nbsp;

On August 11, 1952, he married the love of his life, Mary E. Younger at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. &nbsp;They were married for 71 years.

Growing up in Ellis, Robert cherished his childhood days and often reminisced about them. He spent many happy hours riding his bike all over town with his buddies during his school years. &nbsp;Summer was filled with baseball, swimming, and visits to his Aunt Mollie's house for a snack. &nbsp;In winter, he enjoyed sledding and ice skating with friends. &nbsp;Fond memories also included spending time on his Gramp's farm in Ogallah, where he learned about chores, cattle, and farming. His Grandpa took him to the fair every year, creating lasting memories.&nbsp; Robert perfected his skills in mechanics, enabling him to repair machinery and refurbish cars. One of his fondest memories was taking Mary on dates in a 1937 Chevy he bought from a salvage yard and completely restored. &nbsp;He had a passion for tinkering and working with his hands.

When Robert married Mary in 1952, he worked as a mechanic in WaKeeney before moving to Russell for a higher-paying job. Later, he seized an opportunity south of Palco as an engineer for Kansas-Nebraska Gas. &nbsp;He loved his work and eventually moved to Plainville as an employee of K.N. Energy Inc., where he worked for many years. &nbsp;Additionally, he did part-time work for Mosher Funeral Home, digging graves.&nbsp; 

In 1965, Robert and Mary purchased land east of Codell, and they pursued their true passion: farming and ranching. &nbsp;For seventeen years, they thrived in this endeavor until they eventually moved to Hays. 

Robert then worked for I-70 Repair until he retired.&nbsp; 

In his retirement he built a shop, Bob's Repair, and worked with his son. &nbsp;He enjoyed woodworking, building new things from items he salvaged, and fixing anything he found broken.

Robert and Mary enjoyed being part of various social clubs, including a pinochle club and the Sunflower Polka Club, where they danced joyously for over 35 years. &nbsp;Despite his busy schedule, Robert always made time for his family, friends, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his sister, Elfreda Eberle, devoted wife Mary, and his children, Doris Cline of Gorham, Dennis Dreiling and wife Kathie of Medicine Lodge, and Denise Pywell and husband Terry of Wichita. &nbsp;He also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren, Adam Cline and wife Tammy of Great Bend, Joshua Cline and wife Rachal of Norfolk, Virginia, Larame Cline and wife Britney of Wichita, Preston Pywell of Wichita, Crystal Pywell of Wichita, Samantha Dreiling of Garden City, and Cassandra Dreiling of Wichita, and five great-grandchildren, Danica and Brody Cline of Great Bend, Mary-Elizabeth Cline of Norfolk, Virginia, Jackson and Wyatt Cline of Wichita. Additionally, he is remembered by his two stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Alice Weber, brothers, Clarence “Butch” and Jerry Dreiling, infant son Darrell, infant daughter Mary, and two brothers-in-law, Ralph Weber and Virgil “Abe” Eberle.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday, all at the church in Ellis.&nbsp; A Hays Daughters of Isabella Circle #254 rosary will be will at 6:30 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 7:00, all on Thursday at the church.&nbsp;

Ian Michael DeWitt, age 22, passed away July 16, 2023. &nbsp;He was born July 18, 2000 to Jared and Megan (Kingsbury) DeWitt. &nbsp;

He grew up and attended school at Smith Center, Belleville, and Washington, then moved to Phillipsburg, graduating from PHS in 2019. &nbsp; After graduation he attended lineman school at Manhattan during the pandemic.

Ian was a hard worker and had a great work ethic. &nbsp;He started right off while still in diapers riding with his Dad in the silage truck. &nbsp;He worked construction with his stepdad Jeff, started his own mowing business, worked with Uncle Jed on the “poo crew,” and learned more about farming helping Uncle Darrin for a summer. &nbsp;After moving to Phillipsburg he found his ideal job working at the Rick Jarvis family farm where he was treated like family and was present for the infamous “camel attack.”&nbsp; Last year he spread his wings and began building transmission lines near the Colorado/Utah border, later switching to pipeline construction and mechanical work. &nbsp;After tiring of motel rooms he bought a camper that he called home.

Ian had a powerful competitive streak, especially when it came to corn hole competitions, family trap shoots, racing with his brothers, or competing on the state championship Panther football team while a senior! &nbsp;He was quite the wheeler-dealer with his buying and selling skills—he was usually smiling when the deal was done!

Ian was a magnet for kids—maybe because he was still a kid at heart! &nbsp;He enjoyed being Uncle E to his nieces and nephew. &nbsp;A ready smile with a healthy dose of orneriness—a true redhead! &nbsp;Ask about his fashion sense—who else could pull off pink Crocs, red tractor shirt, permed hair, and striped socks!!?

Some of the things Ian enjoyed through the years: &nbsp;riding horse; Great-Grandma Ila’s Rice Krispie ice cream dessert; riding motorcycles; Jiffy Burger; riding snowmobiles; Aunt Karen’s cake; driving anything that had high gear; chocolate malts; hunting; Mel’s tater tot casserole; spending time with friends. &nbsp;He must have enjoyed cutting firewood, because he cut tons of it and had many customers eager to receive it. &nbsp;He was a helpful guy with a big heart.

Preceding Ian in death were his grandparents Dave and Terri Kingsbury, and Jerry DeWitt. &nbsp;

Survivors include his mom Megan Beikmann of Concordia; his dad Jared and Melody DeWitt of Prairie View; his siblings Kirsten Kingsbury of Jacksonville, NC; Dylan and Stanley DeWitt of Prairie View; and Olivia Beikmann of Russell; stepsiblings Faith Dulany of Norton, Dylan Dulany and Heather Dulany of St. Francis; Riley Allen of Russell; grandma Gloria DeWitt of PrairieView; nephew AJ; nieces Layla, Nayeli, and Z’mara; aunts and uncles Darrin and Trudi DeWitt, Kassy DeWitt and Zach Ayers, Jared (Jed) and Ericka Kingsbury, Kim and AJ Kuhlmann, Katie and Jason Grabast, Ericka Wieck, Courtney and Elizabeth Wieck; lots of extended family and a host of friends. &nbsp;

Barbara Janelle Gregory, 86, passed away July 20, 2023, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kan. She was born on June 23, 1937, at Ellinwood, to Gottfried and Marie (Winter) Miller. 

She married Frank W. Gregory on October 31, 1954, at Ellinwood. He died December 4, 1990.&nbsp;

A recent resident of Lawrence, Barbara was formerly of Great Bend, Hoisington, Ellinwood, Hoxie and Garden City. 

She worked in housekeeping at CKMC for many years and a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood. Barbara enjoyed crocheting, and word search puzzles.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne Gregory and wife Joyce of Hillsdale, Kan., and David Gregory and wife Brenda of Burlington, Colo.; a daughter, Brenda Sekavec and husband Dale of Lawrence; a brother, Richard “Dick” Miller and wife Dorothy of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; an infant son, Danny J. Gregory; two brothers, Gottfied Miller and Robert Miller; and three sisters, Alvera Miller, Lydia Ailshie and Emma Beardslee.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., at Bryant Funeral Home, with Reverend Tom Thierfelder presiding. Janet L. &nbsp;Dixon, 74, passed away June 27, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned, Larned, Kansas.

She was born August 2, 1948, at Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh and Marie Martin Adams.

A lifetime area resident, she was a Registered Nurse at Larned State Hospital. She was of the Christian faith, a member of the Larned Country Club, bridge club, enjoyed golfing, scrapbooking, crocheting, traveling, gambling, and taking trips to Las Vegas.

On March 2, 1968 she married Owen Harold Dixon in Lewis, Kansas; he passed away on December 13, 2020.

Survivors include son, Michael Dixon, Dallas, Texas; daughter, Stacee Odom, St. Clair, Missouri; and brother, Kent Adams, Lexington, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Ella Marie Halloway and Mary Lee Ableson; and brother Cecil Adams.

Carolann Morrison, age 89, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away Monday afternoon, July 17, 2023 at The University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend campus. &nbsp;Carolann (a.k.a. Carol Ann) was born in Great Bend, Kansas on August 19,1933 to Ethel Marie (Milberger) and Judson T. Bradford. 

At an early age her father died in an oil field accident. &nbsp;A few years later, her widowed mother and John S. “Jack” Morrison were united in marriage. It was then she was adopted by Jack Morrison.

Carolann went to elementary through high school in Great Bend, Kansas graduating in 1951. During part of her high school years, she wrote a column for the Great Bend Tribune called Teen Talk. After graduating, she attended Kansas University and St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, Kansas. 

She became a flight attendant for Braniff Airways. She was based out of Kansas City, before moving to Dallas, TX where she pursued her career until 1966. After leaving Braniff, she worked in the travel industry until retirement on April 16, 1999. &nbsp;She returned to Great Bend to live with and care for her mother.

Carolann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend, the Presbyterian Women, and the Red Hat Society. &nbsp;She served on the Great Bend Library Board for eight years. Her pets were her greatest joy.

She is survived by her cousin, Mary Everett of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mary’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild; and Kevin Pflughoeft of Great Bend, Kansas who Carolann called the adopted grandson. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents.

According to Carolann’s wishes, there will be no viewing or services. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery at Great Bend, Kansas. 

Carolann requested that memorials be designated to the Golden Belt Humane Society at Great Bend, Kansas with Charter Funerals in charge.

Gary Stephen Sack, 82, Hays, died Thursday, July 20, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born January 16, 1941 in Hays, the son of Peter Paul and Anna (Brungardt) Sack. He attended Yocemento Grade School and graduated from Hays High School. 

From 1959 until 1965, he served in the Kansas Army National Guard, and on May 5, 1962 he was united in marriage to Joyce M. Hallum in Muskogee, Oklahoma, a union that lasted that spanned 61 years of marriage. 

Gary worked in the oil fields, for Service Master and Travenol, and was a lifelong farmer and rancher. 

His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays American Legion Post #173, Ellis County Home Administration Board, Ellis County Pork Producers, Big Creek Township Board, 4-H Club, the Ellis County Farm Bureau Board, serving as president for eight years, and FFA in high school. 

Gary enjoyed collecting glass and metal horses since childhood and gathering with friends every Sunday morning.

Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Recitation of the rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., all on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of HaysMed or for masses.
