Mary Margaret Werth, 73, died August 3, 2023, at Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Hospital, Bartlesville, OK. She was born September 5, 1949, in Okeene, OK, to Henry and Marie (Kirchner) Huhman.

Mary attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Okeene, OK, and was a 1968 graduate of Okeene High School. 

She was employed as the head cashier at St. Mary’s Hospital, Enid, OK, until 1985. Mary was a bookkeeper and worked for various businesses from 1985 to 2015. 

She was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, KS.

Mary enjoyed sewing, needle crafting, and making blankets for the church Altar Society. She was known for making the ‘best bierocks in the state of Kansas’. Mary had a love for her pets, but her greatest love and source of joy was her family and friends. She thoroughly loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.

On May 11, 1985, Mary married Ronald Werth, and they moved to Kansas. They shared over 38 years of marriage.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Werth of Hutchinson, KS; children, Annie (Brian Orth) Werth of Sedgwick, KS, and Phillip Werth of Hutchinson, KS; grandson, Trexton Murphy; siblings, Rose (Jim) Monahan of Murrysville, PA, and Anthony (Judy) Huhman of Enid, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023, with the family to receive friends immediately following the rosary until 8 p.m. on Friday, at Elliott Mortuary. Vera LaVerne Beneda, 87, of Goodland, KS passed away at the Logan County Hospital in Oakley, KS on July 30, 2023.&nbsp; She was born on August 24, 1935 to Ralph and Olive Bell (Kirkendall) Palmer in St. Francis, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Alfred M. Beneda on December 31, 1955 in Oberlin, KS.&nbsp; The couple lived in several locations before they settled in Goodland, KS.

Vera was a devoted mother/housewife, while her children were young.&nbsp; She also worked as a housekeeper for more than 25 years at the Goodland hospital.&nbsp; She was also a personal housekeeper for many others.

Vera was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., GOODsam LANDers Club, and the Smoky Garden Committee.&nbsp; She loved playing games, taking pictures, flower gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Merle Beneda (Nina Howard), Guffy, CO; Charles Beneda, Goodland, KS; Kenny Beneda (Marcie), Wilson, KS; Cindy Horton (Dan), Oakley, KS; Steve Beneda, Florida; her twin sister Valeria Coleman, Holcomb, KS; and her 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred, son, Allan, two brothers and two sisters.

Dennis (Denny) LaVerne Musil, 74, of Goodland, Kansas passed away July 31, 2023 at Topside Manor in Goodland.&nbsp; He was born on April 11, 1949 in Albia, Iowa to Elsie Mildred (Hale) and Leonard Lester Musil.&nbsp; The family lived in Centerville, Iowa for about a month after his birth before relocating back to Edson in May 1949.

Denny enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on July 25, 1969 where he served for one and a half years before an honorable discharge due to physical disability.&nbsp; He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service and Campaign Medals, along with a Meritorious Unit Citation.

On January 14, 1972, he and Rebecca Kirkham, of Sharon Springs, were married at the Wesleyan Church in Sharon Springs.&nbsp;

His memberships included the Lowell Coleman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post where he took great pride in holding many positions including with the Honor Guard.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rebecca; brother and sister-in-law Marlin and Yvonne Musil; sister-in-law Dorothy Musil; sister-in-law Carol Kay (Kate) Musil; brother-in-law John P. Kirkham; and niece Lucy A. Kirkham-Cochener.

Surviving family includes his brothers Ronnie L. and Melvin B. Musil both of Goodland; son David B. Musil and wife Rachelle of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter Sharon Cross and her husband John of Flagler, Colorado; son Darin Musil and his wife Leann Koons of Cheyenne, Wyoming; seven grandchildren; Marcus (Ashley) Cross, Michael Cross, Taylor Musil, Chloe Musil, Merisha Cross, Elizabeth Musil, and Matthew Cross; brother-in-law Brian Kirkham of Amarillo, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Longtime Wallace, KS resident William Leslie Bogenhagen, 76, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at the St. Catharine Hospital in Garden City, KS.

William was born on March 14, 1947 in Julesburg, CO, to Leslie August and Thelma Louise (Nootz) Bogenhagen.&nbsp; He was one of three children.&nbsp; 

When he was a child, the family moved to Wallace County, where he attended school and graduated in 1965 from the Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs.

On August 17, 1968, William marred Theodora Sponsel and one daughter Nicole was born.&nbsp; They later divorced.&nbsp; 

William was drafted into the United States Army on February 25, 1969, and served in the 1st&nbsp;Infantry Division of the 82nd&nbsp;Airborne during the Vietnam War.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged on February 24, 1971.

William ran a rural mail route for many years and had a love for farming. His daughter and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved going to all of his grandchildren’s activities while they were growing up.

Surviving family include his daughter Nicole (Marty) Bieker of Great Bend, KS, three grandchildren; Natasha Bieker (Tanner Vick) of Pittsburg, KS, Dalton Bieker (Tashauna Graves) and Caden Bieker, all of Great Bend, KS.&nbsp; He is also survived by his longtime companion and friend Cheri Klap, one brother Larry (Ester) Bogenhagen and one sister Lorraine Twedt.&nbsp;

A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. MT at the Dinas Community Cemetery, south of Wallace, KS.&nbsp;

Celeste I. Dinkel, 61, Hays, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family after a long-fought battle with cancer.

She was born November 3, 1961 in Wellington, the daughter of H. Raymond and Arleta (Rusk) Allen.&nbsp; 

Celeste was a graduate of Belle Plaine High School, and on February 5, 1988 she was united in marriage to Leon F. Dinkel in Belle Plaine.&nbsp; They made their home in rural Ellis County where they celebrated over 35 years of marriage.&nbsp; From this union came two children, Kayla and Garet.

Survivors include her husband Leon of the home, two children, Garet Dinkel of Wichita, Kayla Davey, husband Aaron, and baby boy Davey due in October of Topeka, two brothers, Reef Allen and wife Sherry of Oklahoma City, OK and Robert Allen and wife Janice of Peck, a sister, Lisa Willems and husband Jim of Farmington, NM, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will be receiving friends from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Professor’s, 521 East 11th Street in Hays.&nbsp; A private family service will take place at a later date.&nbsp;

Cynthia was born on December 1, 1965 in Grand Island, NE to parents Joseph Wayne and Helen Jane Nealon Mudloff.

Worked in the hospitality industry as a baker/cook. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles. She followed Nebraska Huskers football.

Preceded in death by her mother, Helen Mudloff; maternal grandparents, Maurice and Margaret Nealon; paternal grandparents, Peter Mudloff and Bernadine Mudloff.

Cynthia is survived by her father and stepmother, Joseph and Shirlee Mudloff, sisters, Valarie Jane Goetz (Keith) and Victoria Purvis (David), nieces Ashley Utsch (Joshua), Aimee Reimer (Caleb); nephews Adam Goetz (Jayme), Joshua Purvis (Tiffany), Jordan Purvis; ten great-nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Metro.

Marline Joyce Amerine, 85, passed away July 29, 2023, at her home in Hoisington. She was born December 8, 1937, at Nowata, Okla. to Charles and Ada (Adamson) Branham. 

She married Richard E. Amerine on February 6, 1955, at Beaver, Kan. &nbsp;

A longtime area resident, Marline worked for Goss Insurance Agency and most recently worked for State Farm Insurance. 

She was a member of New Life Baptist Church, Hoisington, and the Heritage Club. &nbsp;However, one of her greatest joys came from sharing her banana bread with her family and many friends. &nbsp;She also loved her title of "The Piano Grandma" to Richard's students.

Survivors include her husband, Richard E. Amerine of the home; two sons, Jeff Amerine and wife Leslie of Alabama, and Darren Amerine of Hoisington; a daughter, Chris Bitter and husband Mark of Great Bend; nine grandchildren, Cori Miller, Lacey Bonine (Dave), Klint Bitter, Lyndee McClung (Chase), Kayla Lawson (Garrett), Adam Amerine (Kyirsten), Joshua Amerine (Sara), Taylor Amerine and Jacob Amerine; 18 great-grandchildren, Madalyn Bonine, Alexander Bonine, Cora Bitter, Brynn Bitter, Ellie Bitter, Kamryn McClung, Elijah McClung, Jack Lawson, Beckett Tucker, Max Amerine, Eli Amerine, Zane Amerine, Zoey Amerine, Cadence Amerine, Grace Amerine, Landon Amerine, Noah Amerine, and Allison Amerine; a sister-in-law, Darlene Branham of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

MaryBeth Higgins, 78, died August 5, 2023, at her home in Hoisington. &nbsp;She was born December 31, 1944, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Warren E. and Margaret L. (Walters) Moore. &nbsp;

MaryBeth graduated from La Crosse High School in 1962.&nbsp;

On May 8, 1965, she married Robert C. Higgins in La Crosse, Kansas.

MaryBeth worked for the ASCS/USDA, beginning in La Crosse in 1978 and transferring to Great Bend where she retired in May 2007. 

MaryBeth was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Hoisington and a member of the Altar Society. &nbsp;She was a former member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Altar Society of La Crosse. 

&nbsp;A breast cancer survivor, MaryBeth was active in the Breast Friends Cancer Support Group and the Alzheimer’s Support Group. &nbsp;

She was an avid reader often seen sitting on her porch with a book in her hand. Come basketball season though she would be cheering on her favorite Kansas Jayhawks.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert C. Higgins of the home; son, Timothy Higgins and wife Nicole of Hoisington; daughter, Rebecca DuVall and husband Harry of Olathe; brother, Richard Moore of Albert; sisters, Vickie Barr, and Shari Johnson, both of Topeka, and Terri J. Gray of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and her three beloved grandchildren, Lauren and Thomas Higgins of Hoisington, and Mallory DuVall and significant other Nick Pecina of Topeka; and four great-grandchildren, Harrison, Amelia, Baker and Charlee.

Friends may sign the book today through Friday; there will be no viewing as per her wish, cremation has taken place.

Daniel Joseph “Danny” Werth, 38, Schoenchen, died Sunday, August 6, 2023 at HaysMed surrounded by his loving family.

Danny was born February 13, 1985 at Hadley Hospital in Hays, the son of Ernest J. “Ernie” Werth, Jr. and Geralyn Werth.&nbsp;

 On August 30, 2008 he was united in marriage to Christy M. Younger at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen.&nbsp; 

He did construction and carpentry with his grandpa for many years, worked for Werth Tank Service, Andy’s Mud and Chemical, Blackhawk Tank Service, and for the last 13 years at Discovery Drilling Company.&nbsp;

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen and was a consummate family man and a proud momma’s boy who dearly loved his wife, children, parents, siblings, and extended family to the fullest.&nbsp; 

Danny loved to work, was so proud of his children, enjoyed the simple things in life, and was known for possessing an old and gentle soul, helping everyone in need, and preferring to tell it like it is instead of beating around the bush.&nbsp; 

His turkey and stuffing were legendary at annual family Thanksgiving dinners, and he enjoyed mowing, fishing, hot rods, home remodeling, and had the skills to do complete engine work and carpentry.&nbsp; Danny loved to dance and listen to music, and was an excellent truck driver who gave his brother this truck driving advice pertaining to backing and parking a trailer, “slow is fast.”

Survivors include his wife Christy of Schoenchen, two sons, Bryce Werth and Brett Werth of Schoenchen, a daughter Aubrey Werth of Schoenchen, parents Ernie and Geralyn Werth of Schoenchen, father and mother-in-law George and Myra Younger of Victoria, grandmother Marlys Werth of Schoenchen, a brother Frank Werth and wife Deirdre of Hays, a sister Jenalyn Leiker and husband Nathan of Hays, a brother-in-law Cole Younger and wife Heather of Plainville, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Martina Werth and Ernest Werth, two uncles, Ivan Werth and Ralph Werth, Jr., an aunt, Pamela Werth, and four cousins, Trina Shauers, Jeremy Dietz, Wendy Stull, and Triston Werth.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen, Kansas with Fr. Curtis Carlson OFM Cap and Fr. Joshua Werth officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the church cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday, all at the church in Schoenchen.&nbsp; A family rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 7:00 p.m., all on Wednesday at the church.&nbsp;

&nbsp; Patrick “Cracker” Keith Ryan, 89, of Gem, KS, died Monday, July 31, 2023. He was born May 10, 1934, in Rawlins County, KS, to Mark and Mary Adeline (Mentlick) Ryan. 

Patrick attended White Dove Country School, in southeast Rawlins County, from 1st- 8th grade and then went to St. Joseph’s Military Academy, in Hays, KS, and graduated with the class of 1955. After high school he returned to the family farm, where he worked until his death. Patrick married Betty Farmer on May 1, 1965, in Colby, KS and to this union three boys were born. The couple enjoyed summer vacations to Grand Lake, CO and going to all their children and grandchildren’s activities. Patrick also liked coyote hunting with greyhounds and playing cards, especially pinochle.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Colby, and the Knights of Columbus. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents; brother Mark; and sisters, Darlene Ryan, Phyllis Dean and Mary Ann McMillian. He is survived by his wife Betty, of the home; sons, Scott (Natalie) Ryan, of Edmond, OK, Steve Ryan of Colby and Richard Ryan, of Gem; seven grandsons, Blair Ryan, Matt Ryan, Josh Ryan, Brooks Ryan, Brady Ryan, Brandon Ryan and Declan Ryan; sister Shirley Hess; brother-in-law Jerry Dean and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and cousins. Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., with a vigil at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Mass is at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rawlins County, KS.

Mary Ann Keith was born Aug. 20, 1951, in WaKeeney to Joseph and Mary (Stramel) Richmeier. She grew up on the family farm near St. Peter with seven brothers and one sister.

She attended grade school in St. Peter and graduated from Morland High School in 1969. After graduation, Mary Ann attended cosmetology school at Goodland Vo-tech in Goodland. After obtaining her cosmetology license, she returned to Penokee, Kan., and worked in a beauty shop. It was here that she also met the love of her life, Glenn Keith.

Glenn and Mary Ann were married Sept. 2, 1972, at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in St. Peter, Kan. This union brought five children: Jennifer, Jodi, Megan, Ryan and Adam.

Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mom and while doing so, she decided to take cake decorating classes in the evening. These classes led her to become known as “the cake lady." Over the years, she made countless numbers of wedding, birthday and graduation cakes. The grandkids always enjoyed picking out their birthday cake each year and no matter the cake, Grandma Mary Ann always exceeded their wishes!

In the summer, Mary Ann managed the Hill City swimming pool for years. She also began working part-time at the Hill City Grade School doing recess lunch duty, which then led to a full-time position. She worked as a para in the special education classroom and later moved to a library position at Longfellow Middle School. When Longfellow closed, she returned to the Hill City Grade School library as the librarian, a position that she still held. Mary Ann was a very hard worker and was constantly keeping busy, always doing whatever it took to help support the family. She started a cleaning business years ago, which included cleaning four plus businesses in Hill City each week.

Mary Ann was meticulous about keeping her home, her flowers and her yard in tip-top shape. She loved hosting family gatherings and seemed to make it all look so easy. When Glenn began having health problems, Mary Ann never complained and was a devoted caretaker. Her children and grandchildren are extremely thankful for her work ethic she impressed upon them. Mary Ann believed that if you have a job, you do what you have to do and don’t complain. She lived by this each and every day.

Mary Ann died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, at the Graham County Hospital, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glenn; her infant son, Ryan; and three brothers: Jim, Roy, and Maynard.

Left to carry on her legacy of love are her children: Jennifer Williams and husband Terry of Hill City; Jodi Rohr and husband Justin of Gypsum; Megan Hart and husband Nathan of Bogue; and Adam Keith and wife Jennifer of Larned; 13 grandchildren; Madison and Abby Wiliams; Brooke, Adyson, and Caleb Rohr; Ella, Eva, Ethan, and Ean Hart; and Calvin, Mylee, Maggie, and Kyzer Keith. Her brothers: Ed Richmeier of Amery, Wisconsin; Kenneth and wife Peggy Richmeier of Hays; Bob and wife Kathy Richmeier of Hill City; and Leon and wife Marilyn Richmeier of Hays; her sister Kathleen and husband Andy Rupp of Hays; her sisters-in-law Kathleen Richmeier of Hays and Sharon Richmeier of Cheyenne, Wyo.

Stuttgart resident, Verna Carolina Preuss Huiting, passed away peacefully in her home on August 7, 2023, at the age of 95.

Verna was born on February 1, 1945, in Phillips County, Kansas to her parents, Carl August Bohl and Martha Emilie (Klotz) Bohl.

She is preceded in death by her first husband Michael Preuss, parents Carl and Martha Bohl, brother Ervin Bohl and wife Gertrude, sister Dorothy Seipp and husband George, and stepson James Huiting.

Verna is survived by her husband Duane Huiting of Osborne, Kansas, sons Darrell Preuss and wife Sandra of Norton, Kansas, and Eldon Preuss and wife Sandi of Stuttgart, Kansas, daughter Velma Jansonius and husband David of Prairie View, Kansas, stepsons Stan Huiting and wife Christine of Downs, Kansas, and Brian Huiting and wife Mindy of Downs, Kansas, stepdaughters Tava Collins of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Nancy Wilfarht and husband Dave of Downs, Kansas, brother Raymond Bohl and wife Gerline of Phillipsburg, Kansas, sister Iona Sidman and husband Warren of Stuttgart, Kansas, as well as nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Roy of the home, two sons Derek and Amy Browning of Watertown, South Dakota, and Josh and Taney Browning of Scott City, Kansas, one daughter Sumer and Anthony Nichols of Plains, Kansas, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one grandson. There will be no formal services held at this time.

Marcella 'Marcy' Garcia, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. “Marcy” as she was fondly known to family and friends was born November 23, 1944, in Garden City, Kansas, to Dionicio and Irene Garcia. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1962, and in 1966 she received an RN from the Dominican School of Nursing in Great Bend, Kansas. In 1987, Marcy completed the Midwifery Internship Program from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Over her career, she delivered 1,563 babies in the United States and as a missionary in Mexico.

Marcy was a community member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame from 1975 to 1990. She held numerous jobs in Women’s Health Clinics, Labor and Delivery, Prenatal and after care for her patients. She was a member of several professional affiliations and appeared in numerous research and Women’s Health publications. In 2001, Marcy made the list of top 100 nurses in Dallas, Texas. Marcy retired from nursing in 2009 and moved to Las Cruces.

She became a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, where she volunteered in pastoral services for ten years. One of her most cherished church activities was being a member of Los Pasqualitos group. 

Marcy loved life and her family deeply. Her laughter and smiles were infectious. She loved music and dancing. Her hobbies were reading, cross-stitch, crossword puzzles, Mahjongg, Spider, and Mexican Train dominoes. She was known as the life of the party! Marcy is survived by her sisters Virginia Jaramillo and Christina Padilla, both of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Geri Duran (Richard), Maria Elena Jojola (Antonio), and Zante Garcia (Debby), all of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Sylvia Garcia of Carrollton, Texas; her brothers Dennis Garcia (Celeste) of Chula Vista, California, Philip Garcia (Marlene) of Sacramento, California, and Charles Garcia (Vonnie) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 26 nieces and nephews; 24 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a plethora of extended family and friends.

Marcy is preceded in death by her parents Dionicio and Irene Garcia, and a great-nephew Wyatt James Wilder. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. There will be no calling hours.

Her hobbies were reading, cross-stitch, crossword puzzles, Mahjongg, Spider, and Mexican Train dominoes. She was known as the life of the party! Marcy is survived by her sisters Virginia Jaramillo and Christina Padilla, both of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Geri Duran (Richard), Maria Elena Jojola (Antonio), and Zante Garcia (Debby), all of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Sylvia Garcia of Carrollton, Texas; her brothers Dennis Garcia (Celeste) of Chula Vista, California, Philip Garcia (Marlene) of Sacramento, California, and Charles Garcia (Vonnie) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 26 nieces and nephews; 24 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a plethora of extended family and friends. Marcy is preceded in death by her parents Dionicio and Irene Garcia, and a great-nephew Wyatt James Wilder. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. There will be no calling hours. Marcella 'Marcy' Garcia

Milton Lewis Jamison, 72, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on August 3, 2023. Milton was born in Quinter, Kansas, on April 5th, 1951, the son of Reuben Jamison and Retta Mae (Starkey) Woodward.

Milton attended Quinter High School and went on to graduate from Beloit Vocational College with studies in agriculture and animal husbandry. 

After college, Milton joined the Brethren Volunteer Service and worked in New Windsor, Maryland, for two years, where he found his love of carpentry. Milton worked for 27 years with the Kansas Department of Transportation in WaKeeney, Kansas, and Formation Plastics in Quinter, Kansas. Milton moved out to his farm in WaKeeney, KS, in 1979 and farmed for more than 20 years. 

Milton is best remembered for his many exceptional talents. He loved to garden and made pickles out of just about anything he grew. He made home-cranked ice cream, adapting the recipe for the family favorite, graham cracker ice cream, and many other flavors. He was a gifted baker, creating many memorable birthday cakes for his family as well as elaborate anniversary and wedding cakes. He was always very gracious in sharing his talents and put his love into everything he created.

He was an exceptional carpenter with abilities that often didn’t seem like they should be possible. His skills were well known in the area, and he often took on both large and small jobs in the area where his craftsmanship can be seen such as kitchen and office remodels. Most recent and notable are the custom bar and tables he built for The Prairie Rose Inn, some of which were made by recycling the old doors and door jambs of the former Trego Manor. While at Formation Plastics, he created some useful inventions like plastic sleds, drip catchers, and games, and created thousands of intricate mold templates and jigs.

Milton and Jeri started their Cottonwood Creations business in 2016, where they made home decor items out of the cottonwood trees found on the family farm. His craftsmanship and imagination can be seen in the hundreds of candle holders, signs, lamps, coasters, tables, and adorable wooden animal figures that he made alongside Jeri. Their work can be found on display in the homes of hundreds of happy customers.

His home and family were his first love, though. He was happy and fun-loving, bringing much joy and love to his family and everyone he touched, making their lives brighter for having been around him. Despite his many projects, he was never too busy to stop and help whenever he saw a need.

Milton was united in marriage to Carlene (Butcher) Jamison on June 3, 1972, and they were married for 21 years until her passing. God blessed them with seven children, six sons, and a daughter. On June 5th, 2004, Milton was married to Jeri (Loflin) Jamison, and together they blended their families into one.

Milton is survived by his wife Jeri, his mother Retta Mae Woodward, Quinter, nine children, Jason Jamison, Abilene; Troy (Tracey) Jamison, Overland Park; Aaron (Amy Jo) Jamison, Louisburg; Scott (Michelle) Jamison; Bryan (Margie) Jamison, Olathe; Kassy (Zabu) Nyirenda, Overland Park; Daniel (Amber) Irwin, Hays; Jami "Krista" (Michael) Ryce, Kansas City; Chad Jamison, Dublin and fifteen grandchildren, Caleb Jamison, Rylee Jamison, Ryan Jamison, Trenton Jamison, Austin Jamison, Andrew Jamison, Aspenn Jamison, Ryley Gautney, Christian Sigle, Kylan Huntley, Liam Jamison, Brecklyn Nyirenda, Bryce Irwin, Briley Irwin, Kaylee Ryce, sisters Verla (Asa) McFadden, Marsha Jamison, and brother Wesley (Eby) Jamison.

Milton was preceded in death by his wife Carlene Jamison, his father, Reuben Jamison, and his stepfather, Earl Woodward.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the Church of the Brethren, Quinter, Kansas. Pastor Keith will be officiating. A burial will follow at Ogallah, KS.

The visitation will be Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, KS.

Lois was born on June 22, 1937, in Hays, to Lou J. and Edna Caroline (Zachman) Armbruster. She was a cherished member of her community and leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. Lois's life was marked by her commitment to care and service. She married Albert Nash and shared a fulfilling life with him until his passing in 2009. Her professional journey as a registered nurse took her to various places, including a medical clinic in Seattle and Wesley Hospital in Wichita. She dedicated her skills to helping those in need and making a positive impact on their lives. Beyond her professional achievements, Lois was an active and enthusiastic participant in her community. She found joy in contributing her time and efforts to the Hays Medical Center Volunteer Services, where her compassionate nature shone brightly. Her involvement in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays was a testament to her strong faith and her desire to connect with others through shared beliefs. Lois had a zest for life that was evident in her hobbies and interests. An avid walker, she embraced the outdoors and found solace in the simple act of walking. James Lee “Jim” Soderlund, 66, passed away on Aug. 4, 2023 in Oberlin, KS. He was born on Oct. 8, 1956 to Alfred LeRoy and Elaine Marie (Rippe) Soderlund in Oberlin, KS.

Jim graduated from Beaver City High School in 1975. 

After high school he moved back to Oberlin and started working. He did construction, lineman work for the city of Oberlin, sanitation engineer, and maintenance. 

Jim married Penny Fisher on Sept. 4, 1982 in Oberlin, KS.&nbsp; After retiring in 2018, he enjoyed feeding the neighborhood cats.

Jim loved to hunt, fish, and was assistant chief of the Oberlin Fire Department for many years. He also enjoyed watching western TV shows such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza. But most of all he loved to spend time with his kids and grandkids.

Jim is survived by daughters Jessica Soderlund of Beloit, KS, Jamie (Jordan) Macfee of Beloit, KS, and Jean Soderlund of Emporia, KS; brothers Kenny Soderlund of Beaver City, NE, Gene Soderlund of Horton, KS, Rick Soderlund of Abilene, KS, and Tracy Soderlund of Danbury, NE; sister Lori Dreiling of Hays, KS; grandchildren Taedan Macfee, Brynlee Macfee, Bailey Macfee. 

He was preceded by his parents, wife Penny Soderlund, and infant brother Trevor Soderlund.

Funeral services will be held on Tues. Aug. 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin, KS. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 on Tues. Burial will be in Oberlin Cemetery.
