Threzia Lyin (Terri) Ziegler, age 56, died at her home in Collyer, Kansas on September 9, 2023. &nbsp;She was born on January 19, 1967, in WaKeeney, Kansas, the daughter of Louis P. and Margaret N. (Kelsey) Ziegler. &nbsp;

Terri, as she was known to her friends and family, was a 1986 graduate of Trego Community High School in WaKeeney. &nbsp;After graduation she continued living at home. &nbsp;She collected unicorns and she loved watching movies and reading books. &nbsp;Every year Terri would attend the Kansas Emergency Medical Technicians Association (KEMTA) conference with her mother.&nbsp;

Terri is survived by her father, Louis Ziegler, of Collyer, and her two brothers, Don Ziegler of Collyer and Ron Ziegler of WaKeeney. &nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Ziegler and her sister-in-law, Janet (Weber) Ziegler.

Gerri Lynn Roach, 44, passed away September 10, 2023, at her home in Great Bend. She was born September 25, 1978, to Mike &amp; Linda (McLean) Copeland, in Hutchinson. 

She married David Roach September 13, 1997, at Great Bend.&nbsp;

A longtime Great Bend resident, Gerri was a cattle rancher and secretary for WGC Trucking. She also had worked for Orscheln’s and Holy Family School in the past. She was a member of the Methodist faith. Gerri enjoyed cooking, gardening and camping, as well as tending to the cattle. 

Her greatest love was spending time with her family. Gerri was known for “adding color to the dark,” always making the best out of the day.

Survivors include her husband, David Roach, two sons, Wyatt Roach and Garrett Roach, and a daughter, Caitlyn Roach all of the home; her parents, Mike and Linda Copeland of Sylvia; a sister, Melissa Copeland Roach and husband Shannon of Great Bend; and Dixie.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rosary held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Mable Wilton passed away Sept. 9, 2023, at the age of 100, at Credo Senior Living Center, Hoisington, Kan., peacefully and surrounded by her children. &nbsp;She was born July 15, 1923, in Weskan, Kan., to Ed and Zona (Kroetching) Watt. &nbsp;

She married Hugh Elmer Wilton Oct. 25, 1945, in Goodland, Kan. &nbsp;Hugh passed away March 16, 1988. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Mable’s work ethic kept her busy for a lifetime across the country. &nbsp;Mable loved to travel and the family vacationed annually throughout the entire western and southern United States. &nbsp;Mable was praised for her cooking, sewing and crafts, enjoyed her monthly visits to the local Heritage Club and in later years became a staple in the community seen sitting on her front porch enjoying a root beer float.

Mable is survived by her son, Larry Wilton (wife, Vickie), of Hoisington; one daughter, Toni Wilton (fiancé, Chuck Oglesby) of Stilwell, Kan.; four grandchildren, Laura Hall (Brandon), Tina Marchiana, Lance Wilton and Angel Vath; six great-grandchildren, Jaycee Vath, Chantz Vath, Cambree Hall, Brodie Hall, Lane Wilton and Bailey Stevens; and one great-great-grandchild, Benjamin Stevens. &nbsp;

She was preceded in passing by her loving husband, Hugh; a son, Gary, one sister, Pearl Lenhart; and a brother, John Watt.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Pastor Daniel Vandenburg presiding. GARFIELD – Shirley Sue Wilder, 87, passed away September 9, 2023 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born May 31, 1936 in Sycamore, Missouri, the daughter of Archie Cloe and Bessie Mamie Baker Berry.

A longtime area resident, she was of the Christian faith. She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, taking care of kids, gardening, and was a mother and grandmother to everyone she met.

On July 4, 1954 she married Walter E. Wilder at Okmulgee, Oklahoma; he preceded her in death on June 10, 2006.

Survivors include three sons, Earnest Wilder, Mark (Rebecca) Wilder, Raymond (Melody) Wilder; four daughters, Donna Murdock, Debra Griffen, Janice (Duane) Brown, Rosetta (Anthony) Bush; three brothers, James David (Jeanette), Ronald Joseph, Larry Allen (Gayla); 44 grandchildren, 72&nbsp; great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Michael Wilder, Kenneth Wilder; two daughters, Dortha Love, Marcella Wilder; two brothers, John Calvin, Elmer “Bud” Theodore; and three sisters, Martha Lee, Margerie Rose, and Mary Louise.

Kris Wayne Klitzke, age 62, died on September 9, 2023, at HaysMed Hospital in Hays, Kansas, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 25, 1960, in Ness City, Kansas, the son of Chester and Carol (Wood) Klitzke.

Kris worked in the oil field industry as a pumper until he retired in 2022, and even continued to work the industry after he was retired. 

Kris loved to camp at Cedar Bluff Reservoir, where he would spend his weekends fishing and boating. When he wasn’t at the lake, he enjoyed watching Westerns or “Gold Rush,” scratching lottery tickets, or playing slots at the casino. But more than anything, Kris enjoyed being with his family.

On October 8, 1983, Kris married Coral Martin. To this union, two daughters were born, Morgan Klitzke of Olathe, KS, and Courtney Klitzke of Kansas City, KS. They were later divorced. He then married Denise Robbins on September 23, 1995. Two boys were born through this marriage, Kale Klitzke of Granite Falls, WA, and Kolt Klitzke (Makenzie Eck) of Ness City, KS. Denise died on June 26, 2006. On December 1, 2007, he married Susan Bean-Rupp. Two stepdaughters were brought into this marriage, April Rupp of Ransom, KS, and Katie Ray (Doug) of Pratt, KS. 

Kris is survived by his wife Susan and his mother Carol, both of Ness City, KS, along with his two daughters, two sons, and two stepdaughters. He is also survived by his brothers, Kevin Klitzke (Cora) of Shreveport, LA, and Kent Klitzke (Terri) of Benton City, WA; sisters, Louella Slater (John) of Amarillo, TX, and Kim Davis (Ron) of Camano Island, WA; five grandchildren, Shelby Rupp (Lance), Dylan and Thomas Fehrenbach, Jayven and Kamden Teets; mother-in-law, Penny Foulke; father-in-law, Jerry Foulke; sisters-in-law, Michell Wall (Randy), Amy Stoecklein (Kevin), and Jill Keller; and brother-in-law Troy Bean (Katie); his fur babies, Chester, Gabbie, and Banjo, and many nieces and nephews.

Kris was preceded in death by his father, Chester; father-in-law, Robert Bean, and brother-in-law, Kevin Foulke.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Kris Klitzke Memorial Fund for Cedar Bluff Reservoir in care of Susan Klitzke.

Michael Lee Harrison

Eileen Mae (Stutterheim) Schemper was born October 29, 1938 in Prairie View, KS to Nick and Nina (Capstick) Stutterheim. She passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at her home on the family farm at the age of 84. Eileen was a lifelong resident of Phillips County.

Eileen attended and graduated high school from Prairie View in 1957.

She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, and love of her life Jan Robert Schemper on June 1, 1957 in Prairie View, Kansas. 

They lived their lives on their family farm near Prairie View, where they worked together tending to the land and caring for livestock. They were blessed with five children to their marriage. Eileen and Jan worked hard over the years on the farm, and together started their livestock trucking company where they left their mark on the agricultural community with a reputation to be proud of. Eileen herself, hauled many loads of cattle, where she worked hard, and enjoyed the relationships developed. She loved helping all of the area farmers and ranchers.&nbsp;

Eileen was strong in her faith and prayer. In her earlier years, she was an active member of the Prairie View Reformed Church, and then later became a beloved member at the First Christian Church of Logan, KS. Throughout her lifetime, Eileen faced adversity; including sickness, hard and challenging times over the years, and loss, but through everything, she remained strong and faithful, and never wavered in her love for The Lord. She was strong-willed and prayed faithfully.&nbsp;

Eileen loved her family and would do anything for them. She taught them all so much including the importance of faith and love. She was always up for a family get-together and a good time, not even needing a reason, just happy to have her family together, and you could count on her to be the life of the party. 

She loved her husband and working alongside him over the years, but they also knew how to have a good time. They enjoyed dancing, watching ballgames, going in the truck together, and watching car races wherever they could find a track. She was the caretaker of all things, and you knew you could always count on her. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, were all her pride and joy. She was their biggest fan, supporting them through all of their activities, attending as many as she possibly could over the years, and truly loving every minute of it. She was generous to all. 

Eileen also loved being outside and working in her flower gardens and her beautiful yard was proof of how good she was at it. Eileen didn’t know a stranger, and was loved by everyone who met her.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son Josh Schemper and wife Elizabeth of Prairie View; daughters Joy Prendergast of Salina, Nancy Molzahn and husband Doug of Agra, and Jodi Bretz and husband Mark of Prairie View; sister Doris Mulder of Logan; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents Nick and Nina Stutterheim, husband Jan, brother Lyle, sister Mary Hubbard, son Brad, son-in-law Richard Prendergast, and granddaughter Chassidy Breese.&nbsp;

Eileen was loved by her family and friends. All those who knew her were blessed.&nbsp;

We can take comfort knowing that she is in the arms of God, at peace in His presence.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in the Logan Christian Church, Logan, KS with Pastor Troy Buss officiating. &nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/people/Olliff-Boeve-Memorial-Chapel/100055272974764/">The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page</a>. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery, Prairie View.

She passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at her home on the family farm at the age of 84. Eileen was a lifelong resident of Phillips County.Eileen attended and graduated high school from Prairie View in 1957.She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, and love of her life Jan Robert Schemper on June 1, 1957 in Prairie View, Kansas. They lived their lives on their family farm near Prairie View, where they worked together tending to the land and caring for livestock. They were blessed with five children to their marriage. Eileen and Jan worked hard over the years on the farm, and together started their livestock trucking company where they left their mark on the agricultural community with a reputation to be proud of. Eileen herself, hauled many loads of cattle, where she worked hard, and enjoyed the relationships developed. She loved helping all of the area farmers and ranchers.&nbsp;Eileen was strong in her faith and prayer. In her earlier years, she was an active member of the Prairie View Reformed Church, and then later became a beloved member at the First Christian Church of Logan, KS. Throughout her lifetime, Eileen faced adversity; including sickness, hard and challenging times over the years, and loss, but through everything, she remained strong and faithful, and never wavered in her love for The Lord. She was strong-willed and prayed faithfully.&nbsp;Eileen loved her family and would do anything for them. She taught them all so much including the importance of faith and love. She was always up for a family get-together and a good time, not even needing a reason, just happy to have her family together, and you could count on her to be the life of the party. She loved her husband and working alongside him over the years, but they also knew how to have a good time. They enjoyed dancing, watching ballgames, going in the truck together, and watching car races wherever they could find a track. Illa Jean Parker, age 79, of Goodland passed away September 4, 2023 at Haysmed in Hays, Kansas.

She was born January 6, 1944 to Jake and Ada Lucille (Moon) VanDonge in Goodland. 

She grew up and went to school in Edson and graduated from Edson School in 1962. 

On September 2, 1962 she married Richard Lee Parker in Leoti. Illa and husband Lee began their married life living and working on the Parker Ranch, then to the T-Bar Ranch where they have worked for 34 years. Illa also worked as a bookkeeper for McClelland Motorcycle Shop and at the Moose Lodge as bookkeeper and bartender. 

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church of Goodland. 

Illa enjoyed gardening, reading, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. Illa was a great cook, the ranch workers and truck drivers looked forward to her treats and she enjoyed sharing her recipes with her nieces and nephews.

Illa was the glue that kept her family together; she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own; she accepted everyone.

Illa is survived by her husband Lee of Goodland; brothers Jerry (Cindy) VanDonge of Texhoma, OK and Jhan (Deda) VanDonge of Burkburnett, TX; and many more family and friends.&nbsp; 

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Milo JoAnne VanDonge.&nbsp;

Irene Emma Satchell, 98, of Russell, Kansas, and former Bunker Hill, Kansas, resident died on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Irene was born on July 15, 1925, in Bunker Hill, Kansas, the daughter of David J. and Anna (Steinle) Waymaster.&nbsp; She grew up in Bunker Hill and attended Bunker Hill Schools and lived there and Russell, Kansas, most all her life.&nbsp; 

She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to E. Paul Satchell on April 28, 1950, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union Irene and Paul were blessed with five children-Lester, Becky, Roy, Eddie and Paul.&nbsp; 

She worked for many years at the Russell County Hospital as a cook.&nbsp; She also work hard as a homemaker taking care of her family.&nbsp; 

She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking, baking, and watching NFL Football and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.&nbsp; Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed spending time and taking care of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Speicher of Russell, Kansas; daughter in-law Judy Satchell of Bunker Hill, Kansas, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul on January 29, 1969, sons Lester G. Satchell, Roy Satchell, Eddie Satchell, and Paul Satchell; brothers Fritz and Leroy Waymaster; sisters Pauline Ehrlich, Esther Propp, Lydia Steinle, Alma Michaelis and Elsie Cain. 

A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the mortuary.&nbsp;

Leonard Brown was born June 23, 1943 to Donald and Evelyn Brown on the family farm southwest of Lucas.

Leonard attended District 44 Elementary School – a one-room school southwest of Lucas, he graduated from Lucas High School, then attended Fort Hays State University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in ag-business.

He married Doris Branda on November 9th, 1962 and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. 

They farmed southwest of Lucas until his retirement. 

During his younger years Leonard served as a Wolf Creek Valley 4-H Club leader, was on the Russell County Fair Board, and the board of the Farmers Co-op in Lucas. Leonard was a bank director at Peoples State Bank in Luray and on the advisory board at UMB Bank in Russell. 

In his retirement, Leonard enjoyed traveling, boating, antique tractor drives, spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren, and spending the winters in Port Isabel, Texas. He and Doris traveled to over 50 countries, including the Seven Wonders of the World.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris of the home; two sisters, Judy Kleeman of Lakin, Kansas, and Virginia Boepple (Dennis) of Oviedo, Florida, two sons, Greg Brown (Gina) of Bayview, Texas and Kirk Brown (Cathy) of Russell, one daughter, Michelle Gatlin (Terry) of Pratt; grandchildren Matthew Brown (Christine), Nicholas Brown (Sarah), Derreck Brown (Afton), Britni Pope (Cody), Elijah, Samuel, Gabby, and Luke Gatlin; and nine great-grandchildren: Colt and Mack Brown, Damien, Ellie and Esther Brown, Hadlee, Rush and Kennedy Brown, Piper and Holden Pope.

Leonard passed away on September 6, 2023 at home in Russell surrounded by his loving family. Leonard fought a brave battle after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2016. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Evelyn Brown, and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Brown.

A memorial service for Leonard will be held Saturday, September 16th&nbsp;at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. A private burial with family will be held at Lucas Cemetery.

D. Leonard Brown

Thomas William Wasinger, 84, a lifelong resident of Hays and a current resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Ellis, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center.&nbsp;Born on October 29, 1938, in Hays, Tom was a son of Alfred F. and Catherine (Nussbaum) Wasinger.&nbsp;

After completing his education at Hays High School, Tom answered the call of duty and enlisted with the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in October 1962.

 Shortly thereafter, on December 29, 1962, he embarked on a lifelong journey of love and partnership, marrying Rita M. Lauber in Victoria, Kansas.

Tom was a dedicated and hardworking individual, dedicating 38 years of his life to Midwest Energy in Hays, where he worked in the gas department until his well-deserved retirement in 1998. 

When he wasn't busy with work, Tom cherished his spare time. He was a passionate league bowler and an avid fisherman, finding solace and enjoyment in these pursuits.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Rita, who resides at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellis. He is also survived by his son, Thomas W. Wasinger Jr., and two daughters, Charlotte and Julie, all of Hays.

Tom leaves behind a brother, Alfred F. Wasinger, and two sisters, Louise Walters and Sharon Lang. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred F. and Catherine, as well as two brothers, Roger and Gene.

Funeral services to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Prior to the service, friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until service time. Following the service, Tom will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays.

Thomas Wasinger

Joyce Lorraine Dean, 89, of Norton, passed away September 6, 2023 surrounded by her daughters at the Norton County Hospital. She was born September 23, 1933 in Kanorado, KS to Harvey John and Blanche Marie Harper.

Joyce grew up in Goodland and was a 1951 graduate of Goodland High School. 

After high school, she worked at the Goodland telephone office. 

Joyce married W. Edward Dean on May 4, 1952 in Colby, KS. 

She worked side by side with Ed managing and owning grocery stores. Later she worked in Oberlin as the high school clerk and Deputy Register of Deeds and then sold real estate. 

In her spare time, she loved going fishing; like clockwork, you could find her at Sappa Park drinking her coffee and catching catfish. When the girls were growing up she often made their clothing and she crocheted beautiful doilies. In her younger years, she loved reading and writing poetry and later her favorite hobby was playing on the computer. She spent a lot of time playing games with her sister Lucy and also enjoyed scrolling through Facebook.

She was born September 23, 1933 in Kanorado, KS to Harvey John and Blanche Marie Harper.Joyce grew up in Goodland and was a 1951 graduate of Goodland High School. After high school, she worked at the Goodland telephone office. Joyce married W. Edward Dean on May 4, 1952 in Colby, KS. She worked side by side with Ed managing and owning grocery stores. Later she worked in Oberlin as the high school clerk and Deputy Register of Deeds and then sold real estate. In her spare time, she loved going fishing; like clockwork, you could find her at Sappa Park drinking her coffee and catching catfish. When the girls were growing up she often made their clothing and she crocheted beautiful doilies. In her younger years, she loved reading and writing poetry and later her favorite hobby was playing on the computer. She spent a lot of time playing games with her sister Lucy and also enjoyed scrolling through Facebook. John Heman Owen Jr., loving husband, son and eldest of eight children, passed away Aug. 2, 2023, after a battle with cancer.

John “Butch” Owen was born Sept. 9, 1952, to John and Bessie Owen in Charleston, S.C. Spending much of his youth in South Carolina, he participated in the Sea Cadets. At age 13, the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., and then on to Aurora, Colo., where he attended Hinkley High School.

Ever the adventurer and a bit of a rebel, Butch moved around a lot during his young adulthood. Butch and a friend spent time traveling to New York, in none other than an ice cream truck, to attend Woodstock 1969. However, the truck broke down and they never made it there. He also ventured on a hitchhiking trip to Seattle, Wash.

Butch was talented and resourceful and was involved in various professions during his adult life. He spent time working in construction and for the last 10 years working as a contract pumper in the local oil patch.

Butch’s true passion was making music! Introduced to the guitar by his younger brother Fred, Butch seemed to have a natural ability to learn and play the instrument by ear. He was a multi-talented musician: playing guitar, bass guitar and harmonica.

He spent much of his life involved with several musical groups including Night Machine, Country Highway, Hammerhead, Crimzon Rose, Faith Wide Open, Ronnie and the Rockets, the Rockits and always The Owen Family Band. In addition, just like his dad and brothers, Butch was very good at throwing horseshoes.

Butch was preceded in death by his father, John H. Owen Sr. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Lisa (VanDruff) Owen of Zurich; his mother Bessie Owen of Hill City; seven siblings: Fred of Hill City, Judy Bossard and husband Alan of Fredrick, Colo., Belinda Griffin of Hill City, Jessica Schlingloff and husband Steve of Hill City, James and wife Shari of Pensacola, Fla., Jeff and fiancée Mary of Garden Grove, Calif., and Jeramy of Hill City; former wives: Marilyn and Vicky; and Vicky’s children: Joey Friars, Rick Friars and Wendy (Friars) Burkholder; and many, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dean Henry Boxberger, 92, of Russell, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, August 16 2023 at Main Street Manor in Russell.&nbsp; Dean passed peacefully with family by his side, 24 days after the passing of his wife of 69 years, Betty.

Dean was born on October 22, 1930, in Russell, the son of Solomon and Elfreda (Reinhardt, Boxberger) Stenzel.

He grew up and attended schools in Russell, graduating from Russell High School in 1948.&nbsp; Dean was baptized in the Lutheran church in Milberger and confirmed in St John Lutheran Church, Russell.&nbsp; 

He met and fell in love with Betty Ann Balloun.&nbsp; After a seven-week courtship, they were united in marriage on May 16, 1954, in St John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; From this union, they were blessed with five sons: Matthew, Mark, Thomas, Timothy, and Scott. Dean and Betty shared 69 years of married life together.

Dean loved the land and was a farmer and rancher all his life.&nbsp; He farmed for many years with his brother Raymond in Russell and Gove counties and then on his own on the family farm south of Russell. &nbsp; He also worked in the oilfield and drove the activity bus for USD 407 for 35 years.&nbsp; 

Dean served his country in the Kansas National Guard, Russell County as a commissioner for 10 years and Grant Township as treasurer.&nbsp; He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the council as treasurer and ushering and greeting at worship services.&nbsp; He was a member of the Russell Masonic Lodge, Isis Shrine, and Russell Elks Lodge.&nbsp;

Dean was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.&nbsp; He enjoyed sports, hunting, bowling, playing cards, and chatting over coffee with his friends.&nbsp; 

Preceding him in death were his wife Betty Ann (Balloun), his parents, brother Raymond E. Boxberger, sister DorLeen (Boxberger) Hunter and sister-in-law Celia Boxberger.&nbsp; 

Survivors include sons Matthew Boxberger (Genevieve) of San Jose, California, Mark Boxberger (Amy) of Noblesville, Indiana, Thomas Boxberger (Sheri) of Lawrence, Kansas, Timothy Boxberger (Dylan Palma) of Russell, Kansas and Scott Boxberger (Desiree) of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren George, Joe, Betsy (Karim Khalil), Jakob, Elyse, Gretchen, Cassie, Joshua, and Jenna;&nbsp; great-grandson Rami; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Dean’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; A private family burial will be held at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.&nbsp;

He was born December 21, 1962 in Hays, the son of Albert E. and Doris A. (Ochs) Karst. 

He graduated from Hays High School in 1982 and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Doug worked as a contract pumper, bus driver, and was a route driver for Hays Daily News.

 He enjoyed fishing, hunting, crafts, playing poker, especially Texas Hold’em, and was a proud Kansas City Chiefs fan. 

Survivors include two brothers, Tom Karst and wife Mary of Hays and Mark Karst and wife Shannon of Victoria, two sisters, Dianne Schmidt and husband Gene of Great Bend and Maryln Schumacher and husband Larry of Lyons, two brothers-in-law, Pat Herrman of Sturgis, SD and Lance Smith and wife Courtney of Hays, and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Steven Karst, three sisters, Lois Herrman, Patty Karst, and Lanita Smith, and a nephew, Dustin Karst.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Messiah Lutheran Church. Inurnment will follow in Mount Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.

Douglas Dean 'Doug' Karst

Vernon Delano Radke, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Vernon was born July 9, 1933 on the family farm near Milberger, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the son of Tobias and Amelia (Bitter) Radke.&nbsp; 

He grew up in the Milberger area and attended schools in Milberger and Russell.&nbsp; He graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1951.

Vernon was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Lynch on February 22, 1959 in Russell.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Mark and Robyn.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.&nbsp; Pat preceded him in death on June 24, 2020.

Vernon worked in the office of the federal government agriculture – A.S.C.S.&nbsp; He also drove the school bus for USD 407 for many years.&nbsp; He was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed ironing sheets for the church ladies making quilts.&nbsp; He enjoyed making miniature postrock fence posts, working and tinkering in his shop and when he was younger, enjoyed fishing.

Vernon’s surviving family include his daughter Robyn Williams of Russell, Kansas; son Mark Radke (Reba) of Sterling, Kansas; sisters Rosalinda Addington (Dale) of Topeka, Kansas and Norma Koehler of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kelsey Shattuck (Jason), Cherish Richards and Christopher Radke; and four great-grandchildren.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; wife Patricia; sister Doris Steinert; and brother Carl Radke.

A graveside memorial service celebrating Vernon’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 14, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.&nbsp; No visitation being held.&nbsp;

 </figure>Vernon Delano Radke, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.Vernon was born July 9, 1933 on the family farm near Milberger, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the son of Tobias and Amelia (Bitter) Radke.&nbsp; He grew up in the Milberger area and attended schools in Milberger and Russell.&nbsp; He graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1951.Vernon was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Lynch on February 22, 1959 in Russell.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Mark and Robyn.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.&nbsp; Pat preceded him in death on June 24, 2020.Vernon worked in the office of the federal government agriculture – A.S.C.S.&nbsp; He also drove the school bus for USD 407 for many years.&nbsp; He was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed ironing sheets for the church ladies making quilts.&nbsp; He enjoyed making miniature postrock fence posts, working and tinkering in his shop and when he was younger, enjoyed fishing.Vernon’s surviving family include his daughter Robyn Williams of Russell, Kansas; son Mark Radke (Reba) of Sterling, Kansas; sisters Rosalinda Addington (Dale) of Topeka, Kansas and Norma Koehler of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kelsey Shattuck (Jason), Cherish Richards and Christopher Radke; and four great-grandchildren.Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; wife Patricia; sister Doris Steinert; and brother Carl Radke.A graveside memorial service celebrating Vernon’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 14, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.&nbsp; No visitation being held.&nbsp; A memorial has been established with Wheatland Nursing Home.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Garland “Garb” LeRoy Ensley, 100, passed away September 6, 2023, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born November 11, 1922, in Jefferson, Kan., to Heber T. and Lettie L. (Skinner) Ensley. 

As a young boy, Garb learned to weld having worked alongside his father in their “Ensley and Son” welding shop in Woodston, Kan.&nbsp;

Garb met the love of his life, Evalee M. Cooper, at a skating rink in his early twenties. They were married on June 25, 1947, in Stockton. In 1965, he and Evalee moved the family from Plainville to Great Bend. 

Then in 1974 Garb founded his own welding company “Garb’s Welding, Inc.” &nbsp;To this day, his sons continue to run the business and he would watch the cars go by on the highway from his front porch swing, often seeing one of the company trucks going by the house.&nbsp;

Garb was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, a man of God and was involved in his faith. Though this was tested after the untimely passing of Evalee in September of 1995, he remained strong for his children and embraced the moments that he considered unforgettable. Spending time with his family was very important and they had many family fun outtings over the years including fishing, hunting, ball games, picnics, county fairs and roller skating.&nbsp;

When visiting with Garb, you were sure to have a learning experience. His recollection to capture special memories would make you smile when you least expected it. In the passing of Garb, may you remember one of his many sayings, “Accept the way life is now and be happy!”, “Enjoy your day!”, “Thank you much!” or “Take care!”&nbsp;

Survivors include four sons, Ronald Ensley, Kevin Ensley and wife Tammy, Dr. Dennis Ensley and Gregory Ensley and wife Jan, all of Great Bend; two daughters, Connie Ensley of Great Bend, and Bonnie Achatz and husband John of Wichita; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Evalee; a daughter-in-law, Diane Ensley; one brother, Edwin; six sisters, Lucille, Neva, Virginia, Donna Lou, and twin sisters Retta and Gretta. &nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Griffin presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. 

Memorials have been designated to Shriner’s Travel Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.&nbsp;
