The TMP-Marian Monarchs offense could never get going
and the big-play Kingman offense was more than enough to knock off the Monarchs
in the 2A state quarterfinals Friday 35-0 at Lewis Field in Hays.

Friday night marked the first time since week three of the
2019 season that TMP was held off the scoreboard, ending a streak of 25
straight games with at least a touchdown.

Kingman struck first, after a three-and-out on TMP’s first
drive. The Eagles scored a 37-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to go up 7-0.

The Monarchs had a promising drive going on their next
chance but a penalty stalled all their momentum inside Eagles territory.

In the first half time was able to get inside Eagles territory
only once and were forced to punt three times and turned it over twice.

An interception of Kade Harris and a return to the TMP
41-yard line set up the second scoring drive of the first half by Kingman. 

They took a 14-0 lead on 23-yard touchdown pass. 

They opened the second half with a third scoring drive and
capped off the drive with a 19-yard touchdown run to lead TMP 28-0. 

In the second half TMP punted twice and turned it over on
does twice while Kingman added a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter
on their way to the 35-0 win.

Unofficially TMP was held to just 130 total yards of
offense. 

TMP finished the year with just the fourth ever trip to the
state quarterfinals and they won their first two playoff games since 2002. The
eight wins in a season is the most since 1977.

Kingman (10-1) will play Beloit after the Trojans held off a
late rally for Hillsboro for a 32-27 win.

The Hays High Indians traveled to Maize High School for the 5A Quarterfinals on a cold, blustery Friday night. The offenses owned the first 14 minutes of the game. Maize scored on just four plays following the Indians turning it over on down at the 28 yard line. Roy Moroni punched in a 15 yard run to cap a three play 70 yard drive. Maize ran in from 29 yards before the Indians Jaren Kanak scored on a wild 69 yard run. The Indians converted for two points on their first two touchdowns for a 16-14 lead. Maize took the lead back with just under four minutes left in the first quarter on a 72 yard touchdown pass. Hays scored less than two minutes into the second quarter but failed to convert on a two point try for a 22-21 lead with 10:43 left in the first half. Jarrett Lyon blocked the extra point. Wyatt Crain picked off a pass while Hays led by one point, but the Indians punted just three plays later. Maize took the lead back on a 21 yard pass with 4:24 left in the first half. Hays took the ensuing kickoff back to the Maize 42 yard line but punted after three plays, going into the locker room down 27-22.

Things couldn't have gone worse for the Indians to open the second half. Maize caught a tipped pass at the two yard line and scored one play later for a 35-22 lead. Hays fumbled the ensuing kick return and Maize scored one play later on a 38 yard pass to take a 41-22 lead.&nbsp;

The Indians then turned the ball over on down the next drive, but Maize missed a field goal. That is when the Indians made a charge back into the ball game. Carson Kieffer converted a fourth and nine on a run as the punter. Hays turned the drive into points with a Roy Moroni 10 yard run.&nbsp;

Maize punted on their next drive with Hays taken over the at their own eight yard. The Indians traversed the entire distance, capping the drive with a Malik Bah five yard run.&nbsp;

The Indians knocked down a fourth down pass and took over at the 48 yard line with under four minutes remaining. Hays converted on fourth down but threw an interception two plays later. Maize ripped off a 91 yard run for the final margin 48-36.

Kanak ran for 203 yards, Moroni 107 and Bah 81.&nbsp;

The Hays season closes at 8-3. Maize is now 9-2 and will play Kapaun. The Crusaders scored 21 fourth quarter points to beat Wichita Northwest 38-35.

FHSU will play in the first contest on both Friday and Saturday. The Tigers return nine players from last year's conference championship squad, including the top six scorers and seven of the top eight. FHSU brings back 88.6 percent of its offensive production after losing four players that combined to score an average of 8.2 points per game. Wagner led the Tigers in both scoring and rebounding in Sunday's exhibition at UConn, totaling 11 points and seven rebounds. Hollenbeck also scored in double figures, racking up 10 points, two rebounds and two assists. Four different Tigers hit shots from behind the arc, including two each from Hobbs and Randall and one from West and Dilsaver. Hobbs broke a pair of program records last season after averaging 6.0 assists per game and drilling 44.9 percent from behind the arc. And despite playing just 26 games, she finished second all-time in assists in a single season with 155 and had the fifth-most made 3-pointers with 70. Fort Hays State ranked in the top 10 nationally in seven categories, including assist/turnover ratio (1.38, 6th), assists (421, 2nd), blocked shots (108, 4th), free throw attempts (476, 6th), free throws made (352, 3rd), rebounds (965, 7th), and turnovers per game (11.7, 8th). The Tigers reached the 20-win plateau for the 10th consecutive season last year. That is twice as long as the next-best active streak in the MIAA (UCM, five). Fort Hays State tied the MIAA record for conference wins in a season after going 20-2 in conference play. Fort Hays State sits atop the preseason MIAA Coaches Poll and is tied for first in the Media Poll. It is the second time the Tigers have been ranked first in the preseason conference rankings and its the 10th year in a row the Tigers have been listed in the top five. The Tigers also did not have to look very far down the national rankings to find their name, with FHSU coming in fourth in the initial WBCA DII Coaches Poll and seventh in the preseason D2SIDA Media Poll. It is the highest preseason ranking ever for the Tigers in the coaches poll. FHSU is 110-31 all-time when ranked in the coaches poll, including a 10-1 record when ranked fourth. Head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1043">Tony Hobson</a>&nbsp;enters his 30th year as a collegiate head coach with a record of 695-211, just five wins shy of 700 career victories. He is 282-105 in his 13 seasons as head coach at Fort Hays State. The Tigers have never played either the Savage Storm or the Cougars before this season. FHSU has played 130 different schools in the history of the women's basketball program, going 81-49 when facing off with a school for the first time. Hobson is 16-3 in games against schools FHSU had never previously played. FHSU is 8-6 in St. Joseph, Mo. under Hobson, including a 4-0 mark in neutral-site contests. This is the third time the Tigers have opened the year in St. Joseph over the last six seasons (2016-17, 2019-20). The Tigers are 7-1 against GAC teams under Hobson and 16-12 all-time against current GAC institutions. FHSU is 17-2 against current NSIC programs under Hobson and 44-16 all-time. Fort Hays State has won its last 17 season openers, with the last loss coming in 2003. The Tigers have dominated non-conference play of late, winning their last 43 regular season, non-conference contests and 76 of the last 77. FHSU is 84-5 in regular season, non-conference games under Hobson. Scouting the Opposition Southeastern Oklahoma State -The Savage Storm are receiving votes in the preseason WBCA coaches poll, sitting in 39th place in the country. -SEOSU posted a 13-8 record a year ago, advancing to the GAC postseason championship game before falling to Southern Nazarene. -The Savage Storm return 10 players in addition to five true freshmen. -They return 72.4 percent of their scoring, including their top two scorers from a year ago and six of the top seven. -Kamryn Cantwell and Briley Moon are back after earning first team All-GAC honors last season. Cantwell led the team with 16.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game, while Moon added 15.8 points, 6.2 boards and 2.4 assists each night. Both players hit more than 40 percent of their shots from behind the arc. -As a team, the Savage storm averaged 66.2 points per game, hitting 43.5 percent from the floor and 37.8 percent from deep. They were outrebounded by an average of 3.4 rebounds per game. -Head coach Darin Grover is in his 17th year at SEOSU, accumulating a 248-193 record to date. Sioux Falls -Sioux Falls went 8-6 in 2020-21 after bowing out in the quarterfinals of the NSIC tournament against Minnesota Duluth. -The Cougars return 10 players and added 11 newcomers, including two transfers and nine freshmen. -USF returns 70.5 percent of its offensive production, including six of its top seven scorers from a year ago. -Anna Brecht is back after earning first team All-NSIC honors a year ago. She led the team with an average of 18.0 points per game while adding 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest. -Transfers include a grad transfer from Concordia-St. Paul in Danielle Schaub and sophomore Madison Birnbaum from Newman. -Sioux Falls averaged 71.6 points per game a year ago while grabbing 41.1 rebounds per game, an average of 4.2 more than its opponents per contest. -Head coach Travis Traphagen is in his 14th season with the Cougars. He carries a career record of 251-124 at USF. Looking Ahead The Tigers will play the first of 15 regular season home games next weekend when FHSU hosts St. Cloud State on Friday (Nov. 19) at 6 p.m. and Cameron on Saturday (Nov. 20) at 4 p.m. Newman will also be playing neutral site contests two hours before the Tigers on each day against the same team in reverse order.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hollenbeck also scored in double figures, racking up 10 points, two rebounds and two assists. Four different Tigers hit shots from behind the arc, including two each from Hobbs and Randall and one from West and Dilsaver. Hobbs broke a pair of program records last season after averaging 6.0 assists per game and drilling 44.9 percent from behind the arc. And despite playing just 26 games, she finished second all-time in assists in a single season with 155 and had the fifth-most made 3-pointers with 70. Fort Hays State ranked in the top 10 nationally in seven categories, including assist/turnover ratio (1.38, 6th), assists (421, 2nd), blocked shots (108, 4th), free throw attempts (476, 6th), free throws made (352, 3rd), rebounds (965, 7th), and turnovers per game (11.7, 8th). The Tigers reached the 20-win plateau for the 10th consecutive season last year. That is twice as long as the next-best active streak in the MIAA (UCM, five). Fort Hays State tied the MIAA record for conference wins in a season after going 20-2 in conference play. Fort Hays State sits atop the preseason MIAA Coaches Poll and is tied for first in the Media Poll. It is the second time the Tigers have been ranked first in the preseason conference rankings and its the 10th year in a row the Tigers have been listed in the top five. The Tigers also did not have to look very far down the national rankings to find their name, with FHSU coming in fourth in the initial WBCA DII Coaches Poll and seventh in the preseason D2SIDA Media Poll. It is the highest preseason ranking ever for the Tigers in the coaches poll. FHSU is 110-31 all-time when ranked in the coaches poll, including a 10-1 record when ranked fourth. Head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1043">Tony Hobson</a>&nbsp;enters his 30th year as a collegiate head coach with a record of 695-211, just five wins shy of 700 career victories. He is 282-105 in his 13 seasons as head coach at Fort Hays State. The Tigers have never played either the Savage Storm or the Cougars before this season. FHSU has played 130 different schools in the history of the women's basketball program, going 81-49 when facing off with a school for the first time. Hobson is 16-3 in games against schools FHSU had never previously played. FHSU is 8-6 in St. Joseph, Mo. under Hobson, including a 4-0 mark in neutral-site contests. This is the third time the Tigers have opened the year in St. Joseph over the last six seasons (2016-17, 2019-20). The Tigers are 7-1 against GAC teams under Hobson and 16-12 all-time against current GAC institutions. FHSU is 17-2 against current NSIC programs under Hobson and 44-16 all-time. Fort Hays State has won its last 17 season openers, with the last loss coming in 2003. The Tigers have dominated non-conference play of late, winning their last 43 regular season, non-conference contests and 76 of the last 77. FHSU is 84-5 in regular season, non-conference games under Hobson. Scouting the Opposition Southeastern Oklahoma State -The Savage Storm are receiving votes in the preseason WBCA coaches poll, sitting in 39th place in the country. -SEOSU posted a 13-8 record a year ago, advancing to the GAC postseason championship game before falling to Southern Nazarene. -The Savage Storm return 10 players in addition to five true freshmen. -They return 72.4 percent of their scoring, including their top two scorers from a year ago and six of the top seven. -Kamryn Cantwell and Briley Moon are back after earning first team All-GAC honors last season. Cantwell led the team with 16.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game, while Moon added 15.8 points, 6.2 boards and 2.4 assists each night. Both players hit more than 40 percent of their shots from behind the arc. -As a team, the Savage storm averaged 66.2 points per game, hitting 43.5 percent from the floor and 37.8 percent from deep. They were outrebounded by an average of 3.4 rebounds per game. -Head coach Darin Grover is in his 17th year at SEOSU, accumulating a 248-193 record to date. Sioux Falls -Sioux Falls went 8-6 in 2020-21 after bowing out in the quarterfinals of the NSIC tournament against Minnesota Duluth. -The Cougars return 10 players and added 11 newcomers, including two transfers and nine freshmen. -USF returns 70.5 percent of its offensive production, including six of its top seven scorers from a year ago. -Anna Brecht is back after earning first team All-NSIC honors a year ago. She led the team with an average of 18.0 points per game while adding 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest. -Transfers include a grad transfer from Concordia-St. Paul in Danielle Schaub and sophomore Madison Birnbaum from Newman. -Sioux Falls averaged 71.6 points per game a year ago while grabbing 41.1 rebounds per game, an average of 4.2 more than its opponents per contest. -Head coach Travis Traphagen is in his 14th season with the Cougars. He carries a career record of 251-124 at USF. It's a project that's not exciting or interesting to most people, but very important for all Hays residents.

City commissioners unanimously approved design engineering services this week for several water distribution system improvements.

The low bid of $32,650 came from Driggs Design, Hays.&nbsp;

The city's 2022 capital improvement plan includes plans for upgrading water lines and install new fire hydrants in several locations through 2026. The additional hydrants are for better fire protection and water quality.

"Annually, we prioritize [these] projects by reviewing historical water line failure data and have selected seven projects over the next couple of years," said Jeff Crispin, water sources director.

With input from the city commission, Crispin solicited&nbsp;bid proposals for two years’ worth of
projects so planned improvements can be designed and shovel-ready if construction bids are favorable. That would allow for more projects to be completed
in 2022 and 2023.

It's a change from last year when&nbsp;the city&nbsp; designed projects for only one construction season.


In 2020, the engineer’s construction estimate was $701,000 for two water
line replacement projects and the low
bid was&nbsp; roughly $260,000 lower than the engineer’s estimate.

"Commissioner Shaun Musil asked me then since it was so low if we could just add to the [project list] at the time and get those others taken care of," Crispin said. "I said no, but we've come back this year, bringing some additional work so we could make that happen.

"If we have it on the shelf, we're ready. My goal is to do between $800,000 and a million dollars worth of projects every year."

Crispin also told commissioners pricing in the unstable construction and supply markets resulting from the COVID pandemic "has kind of leveled out and we should see that rebound a little bit."

A new 9,000 sq. ft. building to house all the snow removal equipment at Hays Regional Airport will be built and commissioners approved a design agreement with Burns &amp; McDonnell engineers, Kansas City.&nbsp; &nbsp;

The design project is eligible for 90/10 funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The city's cost will be $97,394 of the total $363,637.&nbsp;

The airport's fleet of of snow removal equipment has grown from two to six machines, currently stored in three buildings.&nbsp;

Commissioners also adopted an ordinance reducing Hays' extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) boundary and downsizing the number of members on the Hays Area Planning Commission from nine to seven. 

Both moves were done in collaboration with the Ellis County Commission. Mason Ruder, who is employed by the county, abstained from the vote.&nbsp;

TOPEKA — Gov. Laura Kelly today announced that more than $22 million will be awarded to nearly 80 organizations through the Federal Victims of Crime Act Victim Assistance and the Federal State Access and Visitation Program grant awards.

“I know these organizations will continue to provide essential care for the Kansans who rely on these services,” Kelly said.&nbsp;“My administration will continue leveraging every resource and seeking opportunities to prioritize and support crime victims.”&nbsp;

Eligible organizations for VOCA funding include, but are not limited to, sexual assault and rape crisis centers, domestic violence programs and shelters, child abuse programs, centers for missing children, mental health services, community and faith-based organizations, Tribes, and other community-based victim coalitions and support organizations that provide services directly to crime victims.

Direct services available to crime victims and survivors include crisis counseling, phone and onsite information and referrals, criminal justice support and advocacy, shelter, transportation, transitional housing, and mental health services.

The award recipients provide these services in response to the emotional, psychological, or physical needs of crime victims and survivors. VOCA funds help crime victims and survivors stabilize their lives after a victimization; understand and participate in the criminal justice system; and restore a measure of security and safety to their daily lives.

A total $22,030,829 was awarded to 66 agencies, including a $508,00 grant to Hays-based Options: Domestic &amp; Sexual Violence Services and $801,000 to the Scott County-based Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center.

KEARNY COUNTY—A Kansas man was injured in an accident just before 1:30a.m. Friday in Kearny County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Kenworth semi driven by Roger S. Locke, 51, Kinsley, was southbound on Kansas 25 seven miles south of U.S. 50. The semi crossed the center line, veered off the roadway to the left, entered the east ditch and overturned onto the drivers side.

EMS transported&nbsp;Locke to the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. He was properly restrained, according to the KHP.

Kansas man seriously injured after semi overturns

Veterans Day, November 11, is an opportunity to commemorate the efforts of those who have been in the armed services, with a special emphasis on living veterans.

"Veterans Day was specifically created to honor those whose sacrifices allow the rest of us to live in freedom," said Merle McLaren, Fort Hays VFW Post 9076 member said during the opening prayer at Thursday's annual program.

There are eight remaining Ellis County residents who served in World War II, according to Stan Dreiling, chaplain.

Four of the men, their ages ranging from 94 to 100, attended the ceremony and were specifically recognized by the crowd.

Chris Stegman, post commander, talked about numerous veterans organizations in the community, including&nbsp; American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Riders and Patriot Guard, Marine Corps League, Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, 40 and 8, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Fort Hays State University Student Veterans Association.

A new consortium was recently organized with two representatives each from the local veterans groups and meets quarterly.

"We decided this group needs to happen," Stegman said.&nbsp;

The consortium is designed for the groups and members to get to know each other and support their projects and missions.

 "Each individual organization basically has the same common goals, same common problems, same common values when we want to address things for our community.

"United, we make a bigger front," Stegman declared.

The VFW Post 9076, 2106 Vine Street, will celebrate its 75th anniversary on January 19, 2021 with state military officials invited.&nbsp;

Guest speaker was Fr. Richard Daise, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, Catholic priest, and a veterinarian. Daise is&nbsp;pastor at St. Joseph Church in Hays.

Early in his priesthood, Daise lived in WaKeeney in order to work with a more experienced.

One of his 10-year-old WaKeeney religion students, "the first time he saw me called me 'Father Lieutenant Colonel Doctor Rich,' that fast and in the proper order. It took me three years to be able to say that fast," Daise joked.&nbsp;

Daise related the qualities of a military veteran's character that were published in the most recent issue of Kansas Living magazine.

"Veterans are bound by virtues of honor, courage, commitment, loyalty and integrity.

"Trust. A critical component for mission success, trust is at the foundation of a veteran's character.&nbsp;

"Accountability. No excuses. Individual accountability is something service members expect of themselves and they take pride in.&nbsp;

"Intense leadership. Expectations begin on day one in the military as is learning how to be a good follower.

"Teamwork. Veterans place the greater good of the team's success over their individual goals.

"Veterans know the meaning of 'I've got your back' and believe in it much more than us - the secular society that we live in."

The trio "Trilogy" provided the musical entertainment just before a free-will spaghetti lunch was served.&nbsp;

 </figure>There are eight remaining Ellis County residents who served in World War II, according to Stan Dreiling, chaplain.Four of the men, their ages ranging from 94 to 100, attended the ceremony and were specifically recognized by the crowd.Chris Stegman, post commander, talked about numerous veterans organizations in the community, including&nbsp; American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Riders and Patriot Guard, Marine Corps League, Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, 40 and 8, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Fort Hays State University Student Veterans Association.A new consortium was recently organized with two representatives each from the local veterans groups and meets quarterly."We decided this group needs to happen," Stegman said.&nbsp;The consortium is designed for the groups and members to get to know each other and support their projects and missions. 🎥 Hays VFW commander: 'United, we make a stronger front.'

Thanks to a $41,000 donation from Robert E. and Patricia A. Schmidt Foundation, Options Domestic &amp; Sexual Violence Services will be launching Project Pathway, a new way of training trauma advocates. 

Options employs 22 staff in northwest Kansas providing 24-hour crisis-intervention services to 18 counties around domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, dating violence, and sex trafficking through two offices and one safe house.

The significant impact of domestic and sexual violence in Kansas calls for a workforce that is both highly skilled and capable of meeting the demands of these complex and challenging jobs. Yet despite the increasing visibility of domestic violence, the workers—and work itself—have largely remained invisible. Helping trauma-impacted adults and children is a difficult job that often has secondary traumatic effects on staff – which leads to high turnover, burnout and compassion fatigue.

Through Project Pathway, Options staff will have an 18-month training and certification process through the nationally recognized, evidence-based Creating PRESENCE program (Dr. Sandra Bloom) resulting in new case management strategies, treatment and care plans for clients, and self-care and resilience for themselves as the caregivers.

Workforce development is key to ensuring that victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence receive competent services to help them heal and move on to lead healthy, productive lives. Project Pathway provides both clients and staff at Options with basic knowledge about trauma, adversity and stress, and advances the emergence of trauma-informed values, knowledge, practice and skills. This benefits staff through workforce development, and clients through better care and treatment plans.

Project Pathway focuses on client and staff safety and recognizes that trauma has an impact on not only those who have experienced it, but also on the staff who work with them. Staff will also receive training to implement the S.E.L.F. curriculum with clients. S.E.L.F. is a trauma informed framework that focuses on safety, emotional management, loss, and future for victims of trauma. Finally, staff will also receive training from the Family Peace Initiative, which teaches the staff the value and risks of leading by example in group facilitation.

“We have raised about 88 percent of the funding we need so far, thanks in large part to the Schmidt Foundation. With their partnership and support, not only will lives be changed…lives will be saved,” said Jennifer Hecker, executive director.

“With their donation, we are able to launch our project and get started while we continue to seek the last 12 percent of funding we need. We are so grateful for their commitment to a healthier, safer community.”

🏐TMP’s Emilee Lane signs with UNK

It is a commitment that stuck since the summer before Dylan Dreiling's freshman year at Hays High. The now-senior gave an oral commitment to Tennessee to play baseball for the Volunteers in the summer of 2018. Thursday at Hays High School, he made it official with ink to paper. Originally recruited as a pitcher, Dreiling will be at the plate and in the outfield when he reaches the diamond in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Volunteers were nationally ranked this past season and reached the College Baseball World Series. The left-handed pitcher and hitter for the Indians has started since his first game as a freshman. Playing for his grandfather Frank Leo during that 2019 season, Dreiling batted .323 in 65 at-bats, walking 15 times and striking out on just three occasions. He also clubbed four home runs, including a grand slam in the opening round of regional postseason play.

Like everybody, Dreiling lost his 2020 season to COVID-19 shutdown.

Under coach Dustin Dreher, Dreiling spent the 2021 season batting .430, recording 37 hits on 86 at-bats. He hit three more home runs, walked eight times and struck out just twice. On the mound Dreiling went 9-0 with a 0.50 ERA (the lowest in school history) while opponents hit just .180 against him. The nine wins tied a school record for pitching wins in a single season. He struck out 94 batters while walking 23. He was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year. 

Along with teammate Dalton Dale, Dreiling was named to the All-State 1st Team as well. Dominic Bainter was named to the Second Team.

The 2021 team finished 3rd at the 5A State Tournament.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment on Wednesday reported four COVID-19 clusters — locations tied to at least five cases of coronavirus within the last 14 days — in northwest Kansas.

Six cases were reported at Colby Community College, and seven were reported at Whispering Pines long-term care facility in Norton County.

Two clusters were reported in Barton County, including five cases at Barton County Road &amp; Bridge Department and six cases at Great Bend High School.

Small COVID clusters reported in NW Kan. counties

Hays High School presents "Urinetown," the musical, as its fall theatrical presentation.

The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Twelfth Street Auditorium (323 W. 12th St. in Hays). There will be two performances on Saturday at 2 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. and one final performance on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at <a href="http://www.ticketsource.us/hays-high-school">www.ticketsource.us/hays-high-school</a> or at the door.

"Urinetown" opened on Broadway in 2001 and ran for about two years, garnering public and critical acclaim in the form of Tony Awards, the lengthy run and fantastic reviews.

The show is a satire of social structures and of musical theatre itself. The characters are even aware that the show’s title is awful and worry that no one will come see the show because of it.

“The show is very funny and able to portray complicated issues without providing solutions, being preachy or suggesting any particular socio-political structure is superior to another,”&nbsp; said Alex Underwood, Hays High School vocal music teacher. 

This is one reason his artistic team chose this work.

“Most importantly, 'Urinetown' provides fantastic roles for some of Hays High’s incredibly talented students and allows them to shine,” he said.

The cast has been working on the show for two months spending time rehearsing the music, choreography, scene work and incorporating the technical elements.

Seniors Shirley Lee and Carson Brooksher along with Juniors Devlyn Jochum and Seth Tripp lead the cast. Sophomore Calliope Green and ninth-grader Addy Brull also have principal roles.

The cast of 28, along with a crew of eight demonstrate, remarkable teamwork in bringing this hysterical show to life. "Urinetown" is directed by Adrian Rifat, a New York-based actor, who choreographed the last two Hays High musicals, in addition to Underwood’s role as music director.

Lisa Brooksher designed the set and costumes with long-time technical director and HHS alumnus, Jeremy Wann at the helm of lighting and sound. They lead about 15 other adults in creating all of the elements necessary to make a Broadway-scale production happen in Hays.

 </figure>SubmittedHays High School presents "Urinetown," the musical, as its fall theatrical presentation.The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Twelfth Street Auditorium (323 W. 12th St. in Hays). There will be two performances on Saturday at 2 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. and one final performance on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at <a href="http://www.ticketsource.us/hays-high-school">www.ticketsource.us/hays-high-school</a> or at the door."Urinetown" opened on Broadway in 2001 and ran for about two years, garnering public and critical acclaim in the form of Tony Awards, the lengthy run and fantastic reviews.The show is a satire of social structures and of musical theatre itself. The characters are even aware that the show’s title is awful and worry that no one will come see the show because of it.<figure>

 </figure>“The show is very funny and able to portray complicated issues without providing solutions, being preachy or suggesting any particular socio-political structure is superior to another,”&nbsp; said Alex Underwood, Hays High School vocal music teacher. This is one reason his artistic team chose this work.“Most importantly, 'Urinetown' provides fantastic roles for some of Hays High’s incredibly talented students and allows them to shine,” he said. The cast has been working on the show for two months spending time rehearsing the music, choreography, scene work and incorporating the technical elements.Seniors Shirley Lee and Carson Brooksher along with Juniors Devlyn Jochum and Seth Tripp lead the cast. Sophomore Calliope Green and ninth-grader Addy Brull also have principal roles.<figure>

 </figure>The cast of 28, along with a crew of eight demonstrate, remarkable teamwork in bringing this hysterical show to life. "Urinetown" is directed by Adrian Rifat, a New York-based actor, who choreographed the last two Hays High musicals, in addition to Underwood’s role as music director.Lisa Brooksher designed the set and costumes with long-time technical director and HHS alumnus, Jeremy Wann at the helm of lighting and sound.
