The Cancer Council of Ellis County and FHSU would like for YOU to join us in the fight against cancer by participating in the Twist Out Cancer Yoga-thon. 

The Yoga-thon is Thursday, Nov. 14 in Cunningham Hall 122 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. 

You do not have to know how to do Yoga to participate. 

Yoga leaders are there to instruct during each session. 

Teams are allowed up to 10 members for a $50 registration fee. 

Teams are encouraged to collect donations to help raise money for the Cancer Council of Ellis County. 

The individual that collects the most donations wins a Lenovo Tab M8 4th Generation courtesy Auto World Used Cars. 

The Team that collectively completes the most hours of yoga receives admission to and is recognized at the FHSU Men’s basketball game on February 22, 2025.

ACCESS General Public Transportation serving the City of Hays Kansas would like to make the public aware of a scheduling change in the operating hours of ACCESS Public Transportation.

Starting November 30, 2024, ACCESS will be changing the weekend operating hours schedule. The new hours will be from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday and Sundays, which means the first ride for the day will be at 6:15 AM and the last available ride will be at 3:30 PM. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

ACCESS looks forward to helping meet the transportation needs of the citizens of Hays, Kansas and of visitors.

Sunday, November 10th, at 3:00 PM central time&nbsp;(2:00 PM MT) in the Goodland High School auditorium, Western Plains Arts Association presents Thomas Glynn performing “American Tune: Simon, Croce &amp; Taylor”. &nbsp;

A pianist and guitarist since the age of 10, Glynn started writing songs in his late teens and fronted a popular club band in Boston called 5-0 throughout his twenties. His heart, however, was always with great singer-songwriters like James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin, and David Wilcox. "I began to focus on writing songs that were more introspective and personal to me as well as performing live as a solo acoustic artist."&nbsp;

Admission to this program is by WPAA season ticket or tickets can be purchased at the door. This program is made possible through the generosity of area businesses, individual donors and a grant from the Dane Hansen Foundation.

The event will be held on Nov. 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rose Garden Banquet Hall &amp; Catering. All veterans, active-duty military, reservists, and national guardsmen are invited to attend. Lunch will be free of charge and courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Hays. The meal will include fried chicken with choice of honey pecan sauce or gravy, potatoes, vegetable, side salad, roll, and dessert.

Music will be provided by students from TMP-Marian, and a special thank you video will be provided by students from Hays Middle School. Some of Wilson Elementary’s 5th graders will also be present to help serve and honor the heroes with thank you cards. 🎙Kiwanis Club of Hays plans veterans and military appreciation lunch

The public is invited to an open house at the newly opened LIFE Center, 601 W. North Street, in Logan on Sunday, November 3 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The LIFE Center is a unique, intergenerational facility that serves both children and Seniors in the hometown of Dane G. Hansen.

At his death in 1965, Mr. Hansen created a trust which later became the Dane G. Hansen Foundation. Distributions were designated for his hometown of Logan and surrounding Northwest Kansas communities. The concept of the LIFE project was nearly seven years in the making and is considered a physical testament to Mr. Hansen’s legacy of forward thinking and giving back to his community.

The Foundation is the primary funder for the LIFE Center, however local donors contributed $1 million toward furnishings and finishes for the facility.

The LIFE Center includes a 36-bed senior nursing facility that replaces the aging Logan Manor. It is built using the “small house” design, with three separate living pods housing twelve residents each, that include private rooms and an open kitchen in each living area, all of which revolve around the new “person-centered care” model that is being adopted in skilled nursing homes. The senior residents are expected to move from their current facility in Logan to the new LIFE Center in late November.&nbsp;

The Center also replaces the deteriorated elementary school facility. Children from pre-school through 4th&nbsp;grade started school this year in the new building, featuring larger classrooms and the unique “scholastic alley” – an expansive corridor between the classrooms that includes special learning activities. A new gymnasium and locker room are also included.

An indoor corridor connects the LIFE Center to the existing high school building for a completely interconnected complex allowing the senior residents to have access to all school activities, ballgames, etc.

A new weight room and wellness facility, a community room, and a multi-purpose room, which doubles as a community storm shelter will serve the broader community.

Kansas City based McCowenGordon Construction was the general contractor.

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State University’s next Science Café is set for Monday, Oct. 28.

“Bats in the night,” presentation is sponsored by FHSU’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute (SMEI) and will begin at 7 p.m. at The Venue in Thirsty’s Brew Pub &amp; Grill, 2704 Vine.

Dr. Lorelei Patrick, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences at FHSU, will discuss her research into bats. Come and discover the fascinating world of Kansas bats, from their unique adaptations to their vital role in our ecosystem.

Just in time for Halloween: FHSU’s next Science Café set for Oct. 28

Fort Hays State University will celebrate its military-connected students this year through activities led by Student Engagement and Military-Connected Student Services.

Military appreciation at FHSU will begin on Oct. 26. Military personnel with a valid military ID will receive free admission to the FHSU-Missouri Southern football game at 1 p.m. In addition to free entry, attendees will receive food and drink vouchers, providing an opportunity to enjoy the game and connect with community members.

A donation drive for Kansas Soldiers’ Home will run from Oct. 28 to Nov. 8. FHSU will collect essential items to send to the Kansas Soldiers’ Home in Dodge City. 

Deodorant, body wash (no bar soap), body spray, slip-proof socks, dandruff shampoo, sugar-free candy, individually packaged cookies, forever stamps, envelopes, twin-size throw blankets, and&nbsp;denture adhesive.

Drop-off locations for the above items include the FHSU Memorial Union (in front of Starbucks or the digital memorial display), the lobby of Sheridan Hall, and the VFW, 2106 Vine St., Hays.

“This event not only supports veterans but also fosters a sense of community and engagement among students,” said Kayla Hickel, director of FHSU Online. “These initiatives reflect FHSU’s commitment to honoring military personnel and fostering connections between students and the military community.”

As part of WPAA’s fall line up, “America’s Sweethearts” will be preforming a wide range of music from Broadway to Big-Band in Three-Part Harmony!

America loved the swinging sounds of female close-harmony groups even before The Andrews Sisters hit the airwaves. 

But audiences will hear great vintage songs with fresh ears when AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS take the stage Nov. 3, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Center on the Colby College campus in Colby. 

AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS charm audiences of all ages while navigating their way through a variety of trios, duets, and solo features... all with a slice of old-fashioned fun! 

This program is made possible through the generosity of area businesses, individual donors and grants from the Thomas County Community Foundation and the Dane Hansen Foundation.

The Ellis County Public Works Road &amp; Bridge Division is announcing that a rock overlay project will be taking place in the 2200 block of Saline River Road, starting on Tuesday, October 22nd at 7:30 a.m. 

This area will be down to one-lane traffic for the duration of the project. The expected completion date will be Tuesday, November 5th, pending weather conditions.
