HAYS - Hays High and Hutchinson battled on Friday evening for a spot in the 5A State Basketball Tournament. The Indians trailed early then went on a big run and never looked back and won 56-17.

Hutchinson scored the first four points of the game. It took the Indians nearly three minutes to put anything on their side of the scoreboard. Katie Linenberger hit a pair of free throws and opened the flood gates.

Hays held the Salthawks scoreless for the remainder of the quarter for an 8-2 lead after the first eight minutes. The second quarter belonged to the Indians. Linenberger scored the first six points of the frame forcing a Hutchinson timeout.

The Salthawks scored out of the time out for their only points of the second quarter. Molly Buckles scored the final two points of the quarter right before the buzzer to polish off a 13-0 run and a 27-6 halftime lead.

Hutchinson scored the first three points out of the locker room. Hays responded with a 22-5 run for the remainder of the quarter. Molly Martin and Jenna Schmeidler scored 21 of the 22 points in the second for a 49-13 lead through three quarters.

Once again the fourth quarter was a running clock. Hays still outscored Hutchinson 7-4 for the 56-17 victory.

The 17 points scored by Hutchinson is the eleventh time the Indians have held an opponent to 29 or less points. It is the twelfth game an opponent had single digit made field goals in a game against Hays. Zoe Winter and Molly Buckles combined for 18 rebounds which was three more than Htuchinson had as a team.

Hays (22-0) sets a school record for wins in a season. The teams to beat Hutchinson (15-7) are a combined 132-6.&nbsp;

The Indians reach the state tournament for the first time since 1996.&nbsp;

James L. 'Jim' Fieler, 87, Hays, died Friday, March 7, 2025
at HaysMed.

He was born July 7, 1937 in Batesville, Indiana, the son of
Lawrence and Ruth (Sowder) Fieler.&nbsp; In
1955, he graduated from Batesville High School, and on September 29, 1956 he
was united in marriage to Edgena M. “Jean” Lamping in Oldenburg, Indiana. &nbsp;They celebrated over 66 years of marriage
before she preceded him in death on May 7, 2023.&nbsp; Jim worked as a claims branch manager for
American States Insurance.&nbsp; He was a
devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was an
usher at the 5:00 mass for many years.&nbsp;
He was also a member of the Schoenchen Third Degree Knights of Columbus
Council #4166 and the Eagles Lodge where he was past president.&nbsp; With a love for the outdoors, Jim enjoyed fishing
and hunting with family and friends, which included annual trips to
Wyoming.&nbsp; He enjoyed golfing, was proud
of his hole-in-one in Ellis, and rarely missed morning coffee with his
McDonald’s coffee club.&nbsp; For many years,
he would help with summer wheat harvests and in recent years looked forward to
Sunday drives in the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include his son, Kevin Fieler and wife Kay of
Shawnee, two daughters, Amy Luebbers and husband Jeff and Dawn Keil and husband
Steve, all of Hays, a daughter-in-law, Carol Fieler of Schoenchen, his sister,
Connie Schutte and husband Denis of Batesville, Indiana, nine grandchildren,
Jade Herl and husband Justin, Jonathan Fieler and wife Brandie, Mallory Bibens
and husband Ryan, Chelsea Mauler and husband Trent, Heidi Gerhard, Hannah
Dreiling and husband Dane, Cody Luebbers and wife Jenna, Alyssa Keil, and Jenna
Luebbers, and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, a
son Keith Fieler, and a daughter Lisa Ann Fieler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday,
March 11, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Fred Gatschet
officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St.
Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from
5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at
Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A
parish vigil service will be at 6:30 pm followed by a Third Degree Knights of

In a weird twist in the draw of the seedings, both the Fort Hays State University men’s and women’s teams ended up playing the University of Central Missouri in this year’s quarterfinals of the MIAA Basketball Championships.

Some Tiger fans glanced at each other and chuckled when it was announced that the UCM dancers would be performing during a break in the women’s game Thursday night.

“And here from Central Missouri are the Mule Kickers,” came the announcement over the PA system.

It was the Tigers who actually did the kicking on this day, assuring the teams and their large following they would be enjoying the sites of Kansas City until at least Saturday.

While the Tiger men and women have turned in several exciting doubleheaders this season, fans were treated to a doozy on Thursday in historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City, Mo.

In their first game, the FHSU men led by as many as 26 points in the first half but had to withstand a furious second-half comeback by the Mules to hold on for the win.

A long MIAA banner stretched down the length of the seats is the only thing separating fans from opposing teams sitting behind their teams’ benches.

As the Mules made basket after basket in their comeback and got to within three points late in the game, players from the UCM women’s team were part of the loud cheering section in the crowd.

The Jennies (the UCM women’s mascot) started jawing back and forth with a young man just a few seats away in the Tiger section.

In the end, it was the Tiger fan who got in the last jab as FHSU pulled out the 67-61 victory.

Tiger faithful wondered if the Jennies might have worn themselves out cheering for their men’s team. A few hours later, the UCM women fell to FHSU, 90-74.

Fort Hays State showed Central Missouri – and other MIAA teams – it’s here to stay as a conference stalwart after sophomore Telexa Weeter’s 35-point, 11-rebound performance in the women’s game.

It was uplifting to see how many Fort Hays State students get to take part in the MIAA Championships.

There was Garrett Wellbrock sitting courtside with Pittsburg State student Nick Butler, dressed in shirts, ties and suit jackets announcing the game alongside professional announcers.

Students from the video production programs at MIAA members FHSU, Central Missouri and Pittsburg State are streaming the tournament games for the MIAA Network this week.

Just a few seats down from Garrett was his dad, Gerard Wellbrock, longtime Voice of the Tigers for Eagle Radio in Hays.

Most fans who learned of the father-son connection surely were in unison while thinking, “How cool is that?”

Besides the players and their team managers, there was the pep band, the cheerleaders and the Tiger Debs dance team.

The university mascot, Victor E. Tiger, is always a crowd favorite.

And student workers from the Tigers’ athletic department were helping out FHSU Assistant Athletic Director Matt Cook, chair of the MIAA Basketball Tournament Committee.

“This is great for our students to have them around all our alumni and networking with other professionals as well,” said Curtis Hammeke, FHSU’s athletic director. “The tournament is a great platform that is beneficial for our students in a lot of ways.”

The 2025 tournament is a nostalgic one for Hammeke, who is retiring in June after 21 years as the Tiger athletic director. Hammeke, an FHSU graduate, also served as the Tigers’ baseball coach for several years.

Bill and Sandi Hubbard from Lawrence traveled east to Kansas City to watch their daughter, Sally, play in the Tiger pep band.

“That’s awesome that you’re from Lawrence (home of KU) and your daughter came out west to college Fort Hays,” a Tiger fan told the Hubbards as they stood in line for prime seats.

Yes, people stand in line in the hallway – some for as long as an hour – to nab their favorite seat behind the Tiger bench.

“We gave our kids the privilege to say they paid for their own college education,” Sandi said with a smile, mentioning the affordability and numerous scholarship opportunities at Fort Hays State.

“We’re here to cheer on the band and want the Tigers to keep winning,” Bill added. “The more they win, the more we get to watch our daughter in the band. ”

Rest assured, other FHSU supporters have the same wish.

Tiger, is always a crowd favorite.And student workers from the Tigers’ athletic department were helping out FHSU Assistant Athletic Director Matt Cook, chair of the MIAA Basketball Tournament Committee.“This is great for our students to have them around all our alumni and networking with other professionals as well,” said Curtis Hammeke, FHSU’s athletic director. “The tournament is a great platform that is beneficial for our students in a lot of ways.”The 2025 tournament is a nostalgic one for Hammeke, who is retiring in June after 21 years as the Tiger athletic director. Hammeke, an FHSU graduate, also served as the Tigers’ baseball coach for several years.Bill and Sandi Hubbard from Lawrence traveled east to Kansas City to watch their daughter, Sally, play in the Tiger pep band.“That’s awesome that you’re from Lawrence (home of KU) and your daughter came out west to college Fort Hays,” a Tiger fan told the Hubbards as they stood in line for prime seats.Yes, people stand in line in the hallway – some for as long as an hour – to nab their favorite seat behind the Tiger bench.“We gave our kids the privilege to say they paid for their own college education,” Sandi said with a smile, mentioning the affordability and numerous scholarship opportunities at Fort Hays State.“We’re here to cheer on the band and want the Tigers to keep winning,” Bill added. “The more they win, the more we get to watch our daughter in the band. ”Rest assured, other FHSU supporters have the same wish.

Fort Hays State University Music &amp; Theatre Programs is proud to announce that Ashley Vilaysing is the recipient of The Presser Foundation’s 2024-25 Undergraduate Scholar Award. The award is designed to encourage and support the education of a music student who has achieved a high level of musical and academic excellence, demonstrated leadership and service, and contributed to an inclusive community.

Vilaysing, a Hays native, is a senior at FHSU pursuing a major in music education with a minor in psychology. She is active in many ensembles, including the FHSU Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Tiger Marching Band, the Hays Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Clarinet Choir. She holds several leadership positions within these ensembles, including principal clarinetist, section leader, drum major, and uniform manager. 

Vilaysing is also engaged in the collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) at FHSU, currently as vice president.

"Ashley is an exceptional student leader whose dedication, professionalism, and passion for music education set her apart,” said Dr. Emily Chapman, assistant professor of music education at FHSU. “As a talented musician and mentor, she has demonstrated both excellence in her craft and a deep commitment to guiding and inspiring others. With her unwavering drive to make a difference, she is eager to step into the classroom and impact the lives of her future students from day one. I am incredibly proud of the teacher she is becoming.”

Vilaysing said she is grateful and honored to be selected as this year’s Presser Scholar.

“My passion for music education stems from the support of all the amazing educators I’ve been fortunate to have and my closest friends and family,” she said. “Through their belief in me, I am inspired to provide the best opportunities for every student, and I aim to lead with compassion, understanding, and excitement.”

Vilaysing hopes to inspire her students with the courage to pursue their passions in much the same way her teachers inspired her.

“I push myself to be the best I can be so that my future students can receive the education they deserve,” she said “Through enriching and broadening perspectives, I hope to provide my students the chance to experience and enjoy diverse educators from a variety of backgrounds.”

Vilaysing plans to teach in western Kansas after graduation, where she can encourage future students and foster a life-long love for music. Vilaysing will use the funds to help support her student teaching journey next semester. She hopes to share her passion for music and, in turn, help her students discover their own passions.

The Presser Foundation was established in 1939 under the will of the late Theodore Presser. It is one of the few private foundations in the United States dedicated solely to music education and music philanthropy. 

Mr. Presser taught at many undergraduate and graduate music institutions. To honor his commitment to music education, undergraduate music programs at selected colleges, universities, and independent institutions of higher education are provided the opportunity to present the Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award, which recognizes the accomplishments and contributions of a music major in their final year of undergraduate study.

2025 Presser Scholar at Fort Hays State University announced

The Hays Police Department is requesting the public's assistance in locating two suspects involved in a robbery.

At about 12:26 a.m. on March 1, Hays Police responded to a report of possible aggravated battery in the 500 block of West 7th St. in the back alley of Chucks, Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler said.

A Hays man was allegedly accosted at gunpoint by two male suspects and taken to an area between houses, where he was physically assaulted and pistol-whipped.

Scheibler said the man was allegedly stripped of his clothing, except for his underwear, and robbed of his wallet and phone.

Twenty-year-old Roqua James Fleenor of Hays is wanted for alleged aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.

Twenty-six-year-old Isaiah Tai Simpson of Hays is wanted for allegedly aiding and abetting in aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, and interference with law enforcement.

Both suspects should be considered armed and dangerous. Scheibler cautions the public from approaching the suspects.

If the public has any information about the robbery or the suspects' locations, please call the Hays Police Department at (785) 625-1030 and request to speak to Detective Scott Heimann.

Imagine someone you love in crisis – scared, overwhelmed, unsure where to turn. For too many in our community, that’s often the reality. But it doesn’t have to be.

High Plains Mental Health Center is proud to announce construction has started on a new Crisis Intervention Center in downtown Hays.

This facility will help save lives and bring hope to those who need it most.

Expected to open in November, the Crisis Intervention Center will serve adult clients experiencing mental health or substance use crises. 

The facility will accept both voluntary and non-voluntary referrals for treatment and will also offer medical detox services for those under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Currently, there are no outpatient de-tox facilities or adult crisis beds in Northwest Kansas, so this facility will fill a significant gap in services, said Chief Executive Officer Craig Poe.

“This facility will be a vital resource for individuals facing mental health and substance use crises. Too often, those in crisis find themselves in emergency rooms unequipped to provide the specialized care they need or, even worse, in jail due to a lack of appropriate alternatives,” Poe said. 

“The [Crisis Intervention Center] will change that by offering immediate stabilization, treatment, and support in a safe, therapeutic environment that upholds the dignity of every individual.”

The&nbsp;Crisis Intervention Center will offer 22 patient rooms and two de-escalation rooms, with overflow capacity available to accommodate peak demand times.

The facility is expected to serve at least 500 clients annually, and it will be the closest option for residents in 28 western Kansas counties.

It will be in the Hadley Office Complex, 205 E. Seventh Street in Hays. Led by High Plains Mental Health Center, this transformative project is already partially funded, but an additional $4 million is needed to make it a reality.

These funds will cover critical renovations, architectural design, safety enhancements, and furnishings to ensure a state-of-the-art facility. 

With a target completion date of October 2025, this project is on a tight timeline — but the urgency of our community’s mental health needs makes every step forward essential.

“We can’t do this without your help. Every donation helps make this center a reality for those who need our support,” Poe said. “Join us in creating a space where everyone can get the care they need in the most effective setting. Every single gift counts. Please help us build for the future.”

Over the past decade, mental illness and substance use issues have escalated into a growing crisis that demands immediate attention. 

Northwest Kansas has one of the highest suicide rates in the state, yet there are no adult psychiatric hospitals in the region.

As a result, individuals in urgent need of care are often sent to emergency rooms or jails — facilities designed for medical emergencies and public safety, not for mental health treatment.

Without the right expertise or environment, these settings often fail to provide the care needed, leaving individuals vulnerable and their conditions worsening.

The current system is overloaded, as regional emergency rooms often must hold psychiatric patients for days waiting on a state hospital bed to become available.

Often, law enforcement officers must also remain at the hospital in cases of non-voluntary admissions. As a result, rural police and sheriff’s departments struggle with staffing capacity while knowing the patients are not receiving prompt and adequate treatment.

“This facility will be huge for this region and our ability to provide services to those mental health consumers who need help, especially in times of crisis,” said Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler. “Law enforcement across the region have to respond to these calls. This facility will allow those patients to get treatment in a more timely manner.”

The&nbsp;Crisis Intervention Center will also drive economic growth and community prosperity by creating 86 new jobs — 50 direct jobs within the&nbsp;Crisis Intervention Center and 36 additional jobs through the subsequent economic ripple effect.

This proposal is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the mental well-being of Kansans, while simultaneously driving economic growth and job creation in Hays and surrounding communities.

“The Crisis Intervention Center&nbsp; represents more than just a project — it is a lifeline for those facing the darkest moments of their lives,” Poe said. 

“This facility will save lives, transform care and strengthen entire communities by improving outcomes, reducing stigma and alleviating pressure on emergency rooms, jails and already-stretched county resources. With this center, we can expand regional emergency response capacity, ensuring faster, more effective care for those in crisis.”

High Plains Mental Health Center is a licensed Community Mental Health Center and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic dedicated to the aggressive pursuit of providing a comprehensive mental health program to the residents of Northwest Kansas.

Northwest Kansas has one of the highest suicide rates in the state, yet there are no adult psychiatric hospitals in the region.As a result, individuals in urgent need of care are often sent to emergency rooms or jails — facilities designed for medical emergencies and public safety, not for mental health treatment.Without the right expertise or environment, these settings often fail to provide the care needed, leaving individuals vulnerable and their conditions worsening.The current system is overloaded, as regional emergency rooms often must hold psychiatric patients for days waiting on a state hospital bed to become available.Often, law enforcement officers must also remain at the hospital in cases of non-voluntary admissions. As a result, rural police and sheriff’s departments struggle with staffing capacity while knowing the patients are not receiving prompt and adequate treatment.“This facility will be huge for this region and our ability to provide services to those mental health consumers who need help, especially in times of crisis,” said Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler. “Law enforcement across the region have to respond to these calls. This facility will allow those patients to get treatment in a more timely manner.”The&nbsp;Crisis Intervention Center will also drive economic growth and community prosperity by creating 86 new jobs — 50 direct jobs within the&nbsp;Crisis Intervention Center and 36 additional jobs through the subsequent economic ripple effect.This proposal is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the mental well-being of Kansans, while simultaneously driving economic growth and job creation in Hays and surrounding communities.“The Crisis Intervention Center&nbsp; represents more than just a project — it is a lifeline for those facing the darkest moments of their lives,” Poe said. “This facility will save lives, transform care and strengthen entire communities by improving outcomes, reducing stigma and alleviating pressure on emergency rooms, jails and already-stretched county resources. Hays Municipal Court introduces its newest court clerk, a rising professional in law and order.

Megan Kisner, a Junction City native, moved to attend Fort Hays State University before finding herself managing police records and greeting everyone who arrived at the Hays Police Department.

"I really wanted to learn a lot more about law enforcement and the legal system. This was a really good fit for me to learn about something I was interested in," Kisner said.

Kisner spent over a year as a police records clerk before transitioning to the municipal court on Feb. 16, bringing experience from her previous role.

Kisner said the police department and municipal court offices are cross-trained. Both are located under the Hays Police Department building.

Eager to take on new challenges, Kisner embraces new responsibilities, including court attendance, legal paperwork, and regular communication with attorneys and defendants.

"It'll be a learning curve for myself," she said.

Kisner grew fond of Hays and the region, which influenced her to stay. Three months ago, she married a local farmer, further solidifying her ties to the community.

Kisner earned an associate's degree in general business, which she credits with providing valuable skills that can be applied across various professions.

"Business classes are essential for anybody in any career. You learn about effective communication, management and marketing," she said.

Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler highlighted several staffing changes, including a new city prosecutor, which has delayed some cases and added to the municipal court’s backlog.

"That's a bit of a challenge, but I'm excited for Megan. She's a really good fit for the position," Scheibler said.&nbsp;

Kisner appreciates remaining in the same office with her colleagues and does not see herself going anywhere as she focuses on the court's growth.

"I'm very happy just staying in this position that I have been promoted to. I think there's a lot of growth that can be done within the municipal court, and there's a lot of exciting opportunities," she said.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The ninth-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team passed its first postseason test with flying colors on Thursday, defeating Central Missouri 90-74 in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 MIAA Championship at Municipal Auditorium. Talexa Weeter&nbsp;propelled the squad with a career night, totaling 35 points and 11 rebounds, scoring the fourth-most points in a single game in tournament history.

It was the highest scoring game for the Tigers in tournament history and was the first time a team scored at least 90 points in the tournament since 2016. Weeter's point total is tied for ninth-most in a single game in school history and is just the second time a player has scored 35 or more this millennium (36 points, Crystal Harden vs UNK, 2004-05).

With the win the Tigers (26-3) will play in the semifinals for an eighth-consecutive season, the longest active streak in the conference. No one has been to the MIAA semifinals more than the Tigers since Fort Hays State joined the MIAA 19 years ago (FHSU and ESU, 12 each).

The No. 2 seeded Tigers will face off with either No. 3 Missouri Western or No. 6 Arkansas-Fort Smith beginning at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Fort Hays State never trailed in the game after taking the lead 39 seconds into the contest when Brooke Loewe&nbsp;found Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;for a layup. The assist was the first of 12 for the Tiger point guard, her sixth double-digit assist performance this season.

The Tigers went on to hit two-thirds of their shot attempts in the frame, pouring in 10-of-15 from the floor to outscore the Jennies (17-15) by seven, 24-17. The only thing keeping the lead to single digits was five Tiger turnovers in the opening quarter.

After scoring four points over the first nine minutes of action, Weeter turned things around over the next nine by scoring 14-straight points for the Tigers. The sophomore hit five field goals during the run, including three shots from behind the arc.

The Tigers went into the locker room up by 17 after Megan Earney&nbsp;drilled an NBA-range 3-pointer just before the buzzer sounded, putting FHSU on top 44-27.Fort Hays State continued to shoot at a torrid pace in the third quarter, knocking down 10-of-14 in the stanza to push its lead to 66-47.

The Tigers led by as many as 23 early in the fourth quarter before the Jennies tried to crawl back, but FHSU was able to keep the lead at or above 13 points the rest of the way.

Weeter poured in 14-of-19 from the floor en route to her career high, including a perfect 3-for-3 day from behind the arc. She also added two steals, one block and one assist to her stat line.

Katie DeGarmo&nbsp;contributed 18 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks, while Hollenbeck racked up 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Central Missouri had two players score more than 20 points, including Reese Schaaf with 28 and Lauren Frost with 21.Fort Hays State dominated on the boards, collecting 42 rebounds compared to 26 from the Jennies. The Tigers were able to turn 13 offensive rebounds into 16 second-chance points while scoring 22 points in transition. FHSU matched its season high with 41 points off the bench.

The Tigers finished the game shooting 57.8 percent from the floor (37-of-64), their best shooting day against a DII opponent this season and the 10th time they've hit at least 50 percent from the floor in a game on the year.

Fort Hays State has now ended Central Missouri's season each of the last two years. It was FHSU's fourth-straight win over the Jennies going back to last spring's 65-63 quarterfinal win, one shy of the longest Tiger winning streak in series history.

The Tigers improve to 18-12 all-time in the MIAA tournament, 12-4 in the quarterfinals, 4-5 against the Jennies, 4-0 as the No. 2 seed, 2-0 against the No. 7 seed and 12-3 when ranked and playing in the tournament.

The win is Fort Hays State's 26th victory&nbsp;this season, tied for fifth-most in team history.

DeGarmo&nbsp;increased her career totals in the tournament to 186 points and 98 rebounds in 12 games, ranking third in a career in each category&nbsp;in tournament history.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Indians opened the game with the first seven points before the Panthers knocked down one of two free throws. Hays scored the next 15 points to take firm control of the game at 22-1 with 3:38 left in the first quarter.

The Indians led 25-6 after one quarter and boosted their advantage to 36-9 midway through the second quarter. Great Bend made six of eight second quarter free throws for have of their points in that frame. Hays scored right before halftime for a 46-18 lead heading into the lockerroom.

The Indians never lifted their foot off the gas scoring the first eight points of the third quarter during a 12-2 run over a four minute span. Hays led 65-27 through three quarters. The Indians outscored Great Bend 13-4 during a running clock fourth quarter for the 78-31 win.

The 78 points is the second most scored by the Indians in a game this season. Hays (21-0) ties a school record for wins in a season. Great Bend ends the season at 6-15.

Hays will host Hutchinson in the sub-state championship game on Friday evening.

The Hays High wrestlers that placed at state were recognized at halftime.

🏀 Hays girls advance with blowout win over Great Bend

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA quarterfinal between No. 2 seeded Fort Hays State and No. 7 seeded Central Missouri was a tale of two halves on Thursday at Municipal Auditorium. The Tigers used stifling defense in the first half to build a 22-point lead by the break, but struggled offensively in the second half and had to hold off a drawn-out surge by the Mules in the second half for a 67-61 win. The Tigers never trailed and reached 20 wins for the 13th&nbsp;time in Mark Johnson's&nbsp;tenure, now 20-9 overall. It was Johnson's 700th&nbsp;game coached at FHSU.

Fort Hays State opened the game on an 11-0 run over the first three and a half minutes before UCM scored about four minutes into the game. The Hays High girls open postseason play by hosting Great Bend on Thursday evening at 6:00. The game was supposed to be played on Tuesday but was postponed due to winter weather.

Hays(20-0) and Great Bend(6-14) finished the regular season against one another last Friday. Winner of tonight's game will play Hutchinson on Friday in the sub-state championship.
