Andrew Lee Engling, 55, of
Natoma, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 at the Kansas University
Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, surrounded by his children and family.

Andrew was born April 22, 1970,
in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; He was one of five
children to Edward M., Sr, and Clara R. “Pat” (Golembiewski) Engling.&nbsp; He grew up in Natoma and graduated from
Natoma High School in the Class of 1988.&nbsp;
After graduation Andrew attended Salina Vo-Tech and graduated with his
welding degree in 1989 in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;
Many people know him for his Welding; he was talented beyond his
abilities.&nbsp; He could envision and fabricate
almost anything.

Andrew met, fell in love with
April Zimmerman on August 21, 1999, and spent over 25 years together.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children;
Shayne, Jayson and Candyce.&nbsp; He also has
three children from a previous marriage, Joshua, Shelby and Kylie.&nbsp; They have made their home in Natoma.

Andrew was a welder for Tom’s
Machine &amp; Welding in Plainville for over 24 years.&nbsp; Before that, he worked with Great Plains,
Inc. in Salina and Lucas.&nbsp; He enjoyed the
outdoors, especially camping, fishing, and riding motorcycles.&nbsp; He was an avid sports watcher that cheered on
his Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas University Jayhawks.&nbsp; He enjoyed playing pool, listening to all
varieties of music, time spent with friends and family, watching Wheel of
Fortune and playing Candy Crush Saga, completing his last level of 8905.

Andrew’s surviving family include
his spouse, April Zimmerman of the home; six children: Shayne Engling of Hays,
Kansas, Jayson Engling (Kaitlyn) of Natoma, Kansas, Candyce Engling of Natoma,
Kansas, Joshua Engling of Plainville, Kansas, Shelby Engling (Kayley) of
Salina, Kansas and Kylie Engling of Natoma, Kansas; two brothers, Edward
Engling, Jr. of Natoma, Kansas and Anthony Engling (Lori) of Salina, Kansas;
sister, Christine Hoffman (Ken) of Hays, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Dee Engling of
Phillipsburg, Kansas and Monica Martinez of Natoma, Kansas; brother-in-law,
Manuel Martinez of Hays, Kansas; in-laws, James and Deborah Christopher of
Natoma, Kansas, &nbsp;and seven grandchildren,
Harper, Alexis, Aiden, Bindi, Haven, Aubriella and Drew; and many nieces and
nephews.

Andrew was preceded in death by
his parents and brother Michael Engling.

A Memorial Service celebrating
his Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Natoma
Auditorium.&nbsp; Burial of ashes will follow

Fredrick 'Freddy' Ralph Sheesley, 76, of Hays, Kansas, passed away peacefully on June 5,
2025, at Hays Medical Center surrounded by family.

He was
born on December 30, 1948, in Colby, Kansas, to Fredrick H. and Ferne M.
(Eaton) Sheesley. Freddy graduated from Grinnell High School in 1966, went on
to Colby Community College, then transferred to Fort Hays State University
where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology in 1971—an experience that
fueled his lifelong love for the outdoors and exploration, especially the
geology digs of Northwest Kansas. 

Throughout
his life, Fred embraced many roles: dedicated district executive with the Boy
Scouts of America, proud member of The Masonic Lodge, loyal FHSU alumnus, and
small business owner. He owned and operated an American Family Insurance agency
in Hays for six years and spent many early mornings delivering bread across
western Kansas for Old Home Bread. Prior to retirement, he sold commercial
vehicles for Chevrolet in the KC area.

Fred was
a man of deep passion and kindness—a true sports enthusiast who faithfully
cheered for the FHSU Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs, and KC Royals. He found peace
in nature, whether it was camping, fishing, scouting, or simply enjoying a
cigar on the deck. He had a servant’s heart, always ready with his trademark
phrase, “I’d be glad to help.” Fred was known for his unwavering kindness—never
speaking an unkind word about anyone.

His joy
was in life’s simple pleasures: trout fishing in the Rockies, nights around a
campfire under the stars telling stories, supporting family through small home
projects, recalling college summers spent in McCartney Hall at Sternberg Museum
in addition to Scout Camps Brown and Hansen where he served as a staff member
in college and later became the camp director. Moreover, he loved sharing life
stories and many laughs with his grandchildren.

Fred is
survived by his children, Scott B. (Marlene) Sheesley of St. Joseph, MO, and
Elodie J. Jones of Hays; sister, Roxann Sheesley Nelson of Grinnell, KS; five
grandchildren, Madison (Matt) Nolte, Shawn Sheesley, Avery (Chase) Jones, Katie
Sheesley, and Caleb Sheesley; and one great-grandchild, Miller Nolte; including
many cherished extended family and friends.

He was
preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jan Marie Sheesley; brother-in-law,
Robert Nelson; and niece, Chelsie M. Nelson.

A
Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 13, 2025, at 10:30 AM at
Celebration Community Church in Hays, KS. Family will receive guests and host a
coffee bar 9:30 AM until service time. Burial will follow in Grinnell City
Cemetery at 1 PM in Grinnell, KS.

Roy Clark Miller, 95 of Grand Island,
Nebraska, and former Russell, Kansas resident died on Thursday, May 29, 2025,
at Country House Residence in Grand Island.

Roy was born on June 11, 1929, in
Gove County, Kansas, the son of Fay Clark and Hazel Inus (Benson) Miller.&nbsp; He grew up in the Quinter and Gove, Kansas
areas and graduated from Gove Rural High School in 1943.&nbsp; After high school, he attended Ft. Hays State
University, but his time was cut short when he joined the United States
Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. After being
honorably discharged from the Air Force, he attended Ottawa University where he
received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1958.&nbsp; Later, he attended Emporia State University
and earned his master’s degree in mathematics.&nbsp;
He was united in marriage to Naomi Flo Hull on January 09, 1955 in
Ottawa, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union, Roy and
Naomi were blessed with four children Deb, Pam, Tim, and Randy.&nbsp; Roy taught at Gypsum High School in Gypsum,
Kansas from 1958-1964.&nbsp; In 1964, he moved
to Russell, Kansas to become a math teacher at Russell High School.&nbsp; He loved mathematics and enjoyed teaching his
students how to advance their mathematical skills.&nbsp; He worked for USD 407 for 30 years before
retiring in 1994.&nbsp; He was a longtime
member of the Otterbein Methodist Church in Russell.&nbsp; He enjoyed camping and was a member of SAM’s
Camping Club.&nbsp; He was also a member of the
Russell Square Dancing Club, Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, Russell Elks Lodge, and
Russell Senior Center.&nbsp; Both Roy and
Naomi loved square dancing and were Co-Presidents of the Kansas Square Dance
Association during 1989-1990.&nbsp; He also
enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, and dominoes.&nbsp; Most of all, he delighted in spending time
with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

Surviving family includes his daughters Deb
Miller (Alan Kirton) of Boulder, Colorado and Pam Emahizer (John) of Aurora,
Nebraska; sons Tim Miller of Topeka, Kansas and Randy Miller (Laurie) of
Ottawa, Kansas; brother Tom Miller (Elouise) of Topeka, Kansas; 9 grandchildren
Erin, Trevor, Megan, Jarod, Nicole, Josh,
Nathan, Jordan and Shelby; 18 great-grandchildren Brennan, Hunter, Ava,
Andrew, Isaac, Dylan, Madison, Landon, Kolten, Aiden, Johnathon, Delilah, Jack,
Maddie, Maddox, Harper, Avery, and Olivia.

He was preceded in death by his
parents, wife Naomi on November 08, 2016, three brothers Marvin, Larry, and Max
Miller, sisters Donna May Miller and Marilyn Streets, and granddaughter Lindsay
Miller.

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M.
on June 16, 2025, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell,

The Ellis County Commission will review the process for funding outside agencies for the 2026 fiscal year during its meeting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Care Council will review most of the requests and present funding recommendations at a future meeting.

Last year, the commission authorized the Care Council to review the remaining agencies. Funding for these agencies is limited at the dollar equivalent of 3/10th of a mill.

Environmental Services Director Justin Craig will request a resolution to implement a secured loads policy at the Ellis County Landfill to address increasing concerns about roadway debris.

The policy is designed to reduce litter, improve public safety and address citizen complaints by enforcing load security standards.

If approved, the policy would be fully enforced starting April 1, 2026. Violators could be subject to a 50% surcharge on landfill fees and possible law enforcement involvement.

Darin Myers, Ellis County Administrator, will request the commission to approve the distribution of alcohol funds.

One-third of the collected alcohol tax revenue is allocated for alcohol and drug programs. The CARE Council recommends dividing the $7,730 evenly between Dream Inc. and the Smoky Hill Foundation for Chemical Dependency.

Highway 40 and Main Street intersection in Victoria

John Schulte, Victoria Mayor, and Brendan Mackay, Public Works Director, will request financial assistance for reconstructing the East Main Street approach to Old Highway 40 in Victoria.

The approach is deteriorating, resulting in large potholes. The City of Victoria is asking the county to fund one-third of the total $124,685 cost.

Mackay will also seek approval to purchase 27,456 gallons of CRS-1HP asphalt emulsion oil for the Catharine Road reconstruction project, which will cost about $74,400.

Craig will request the commission to reappoint David McDaniel and Mason Ruder to new three-year terms on the Joint Planning Commission beginning July 1. Their current terms end on June 30.

An Ellis County resident will ask the commission for guidance on initiating improvements and establishing regular maintenance for a privately accessed oil lead road in northeast Ellis County.

Myers will request a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment for all Ellis County employees, elected officials and contract positions. The adjustment follows the Social Security Administration's 2025 cost-of-living rate.

The A’s took advantage of early command issues by Larks

Hays was able to get a run back in the top of the second
inning, when Trent Baker singled home a run, cutting the lead to 3-1, Dodge
City. 

But the A’s, thanks to two more walks, got the run back in
the bottom of the second and led 4-1 through two innings.

Dodge City added a single run in the fourth and three more
runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, building an 8-1 lead.

The <a href="https://www.victoriakscommunity.com/">Victoria Community Coalition</a> is now renting apartments in the newly renovated St. John's Place.

The first phase of the St. John's renovation includes four two-bedroom, six one-bedroom, one studio and one handicap apartments for a total of 12 units.

The former St. John's nursing home sat empty for 12 years before the Victoria Community Coalition began raising the $3 million necessary to renovate the building.

The coalition broke ground on the apartments in April 2024.

The apartments are designed for independent living for moderate-income seniors, based on grants the coalition received to construct the apartments.

You must be 55 years old or older to apply for an apartment.

The apartments rent for between $725 and $1,275, depending on size. Income requirements start at $40,080 to $100,200 a year in annual income for an individual, Marilyn Braun, coalition treasurer, said. Those incomes can be higher for a couple.

The apartments have a separate, secure and handicap accessible entrance to the building.&nbsp;

<a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/c41e4048-59de-423e-988b-806e20364567">Some of the amenities in the apartments include pantries, walk-in closets, water softeners, quartz countertops and barn-door entries in some rooms to optimize space.</a>

The showers have low thresholds and built-in seats to make them more accessible for seniors.

The apartments also have a community room and a laundry room for residents' use.

"We are very proud of it, and we hope to fill it up," Braun said. "We are going to continue on with the rest of the building. We are working with an architect, and we will be looking at raising money and trying to get our community center done and possibly two Airbnbs."

The coalition has planned for two apartment-style short-term rentals in the building. Those spaces are framed, but yet to be finished.

The Airbnb units will have a separate, secure entrance from the apartments.

The coalition is also looking to develop a child care space in the center and would like to add a small coffee bar.

Braun said the coalition already has designs for the Airbnb space, but they are working to develop plans for the community center and child care.

Once those plans have been done and an estimated cost determined, the coalition can begin applying for grants and fundraising for the next phase of development.

<a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/b6454123-e1a4-446d-95f8-2a4870f81803">The Ellis County Historical Society is developing space on the south side of the former nursing home as a satellite campus. </a>

Amanda Rupp, society director, said the timeline for the development of the museum space depends on fundraising.

However, she said she hopes that restrooms, HVAC and floor coverings should be in by the end of next summer.

She said the museum will eventually have volunteer opportunities at the St. John's location, and she hopes some of the St. John's apartment residents will consider participating.

Braun said she is excited about the museum's project.

"That's going to bring a lot of people to our community," she said. "We've got the church. There's a lot of people coming there. They'll have the ability to go see the historical society and see all the heritage and people who came from Russia. ...

"We look forward to being good neighbors."

Championing parents and giving them a voice in their children's education has been very important to Donna Hudson-Hamilton throughout her career.

She said she was inspired to pursue a career in education after witnessing her mother's interactions with the system. Her brother had special needs, and Hudson-Hamilton said she often saw her mother very upset after meetings with teachers concerning her brother's needs.

"I always thought there has to be a better way to do this," she said.

Hudson-Hamilton, director of Early Childhood Connections in Hays, is retiring after 34 years in education.

After earning her degree in school psychology from Fort Hays State University, she served as a child psychologist working in early childhood for 12 years before becoming the director of Early Childhood for USD 489, a position she held for 22 years.

She strove to make parents a part of the education team.&nbsp;

"I have always had the philosophy that parents are their first and foremost teacher," Hudson-Hamilton said, "so if we really want to make lasting change, we need to include parents. They have to be a part of it."

Hudson-Hamilton has been a member of the Child Care Task Force of Ellis County since its inception. Dana Stanton, fellow task force member, nominated Hudson-Hamilton for the May Child Care Champion Award.

"For the past 30 years, Donna has been a champion for early childhood services and child care in our community and state," Stanton said. "As the leader of USD 489 Early Childhood Connections, she was instrumental in the development of the USD 489 Early Head Start Child Care Center. ...

"Her expertise in early childhood and the willingness to work on various child care taskforce committees have been greatly appreciated. It is hard to imagine someone in our community who has made a bigger impact on quality early childhood services than Donna Hudson-Hamilton."

Hudson-Hamilton said she quickly knew she was working with the right age group when she was assigned to work with young children.

"I just fell in love with it," she said. "I feel like this is the age to really make a difference and really make an impact."

Research indicates 80% of a child's brain is developed by age 3 and 90% by age 5.

She said the center works closely with teachers to identify the skills that children entering kindergarten might struggle with. In recent years, the center has focused on developing fine motor skills, as children are increasingly playing with electronics and less often engaging in activities such as coloring and playing with materials like Play-Doh.

Early child care, whether in a center or a home, is also very important in developing social skills that are essential for learning in a classroom setting in elementary school, Hudson-Hamilton said.

"If you talk to a kindergarten teacher, they would much rather have a child ready who could play well with others, follow directions, and sit and attend. Those [skills] are probably more important for them than if they know their ABCs," she said.&nbsp;

Hudson-Hamilton said she was proud of the work to establish the Early Childhood Complex.

<a href="https://archive.hayspost.com/2019/08/24/early-childhood-connections-relocates-to-renovated-oak-park-complex/">In 2019, USD 489 renovated the building on 13th Street and relocated from its former home in the Washington school.</a>

"We're all at one location where we can be more supportive," she said.

Hudson-Hamilton has had plenty of accolades in her career.&nbsp;

She was named the&nbsp;Kansas Head Start Association&nbsp;Kansas State Children's Champion for 2025 this spring.&nbsp;In 2013, she was named the National Head Start Director of the Year.&nbsp;From 2007 to 2009, she served as president of the Kansas Head Start Association.

She has also served with many other local, state and national organizations. Some of these include: • Heartland Community Foundation Board • Kansas Association of Infant Mental Health • United Methodist Health Ministry Fund • Mental Health Advisory Committee • United Way of Ellis County • KHSA (Kansas Head Start Association) • PACT (Parents and Children Together) • HICC (Hays Interagency Coordinating Council) • Head Start Collaboration Council

However, she said there are small moments every day that make a difference.

"It's the everyday things like seeing the kids and watching them grow and develop, and when parents reach new goals, or when I have active parents on policy council, and they have great ideas, and we're doing good things. Those things fill my heart," she said.

Hudson-Hamilton said COVID changed the way many people saw early child care providers.

"My hope is people continue to see early child care providers, no matter what they're doing, whether they are in a Head Start setting or in their own home day care, that they see them as the professionals they are.

"They are laying that early foundation, providing that safety and that relationship that children desperately need to develop their brains. I hope people see all early childhood providers as professionals."

She said she thought the child care task force has done much to promote the child care profession and educate the community about its importance.

Hudson-Hamilton said she has truly been blessed with an amazing team to work with at Early Childhood Connections.

"We really promote a good school family, and I feel I have had a good school family throughout my career," she said.

Hudson-Hamilton has been in education long enough that children who attended the Early Childhood Center are now in high school and beyond.

"We recently had a student who was in our Ellis classroom who did well at state track, and we'll say, 'Do you remember when they were in our classroom?' or we will have a student win a spelling bee," she said.

The Kansas Head Start Association also awards scholarships to graduating seniors who were previously enrolled in Head Start. Hays students have won that scholarship for the last two years.

"I do think we get to see our students go on to do great and amazing things," Hudson-Hamilton said.

However, Hudson-Hamilton said her greatest achievement has been her family and her own children. She said she has encouraged the center's staff members to make sure they also make time for their families.

Hudson-Hamilton has two daughters, ages 22 and 24, both of whom are also pursuing education as a career. One daughter teaches in an early childhood class in Russell and the other is a school psychologist in the Oakley co-op.

Hudson-Hamilton, 59, said she is still developing her retirement plans. She will likely continue to write grants for local agencies. She is also considering doing remote school psychology or technology work.

Child Care Champion: Early Childhood director retiring after 34 years in education

HAYS – On a night members of the NBC World Series presented
the Larks with their championship trophy from last season, the Hays Larks provided
the fireworks by hitting five home runs in a 13-3 rout of the Dodge City A’s in
their home and Rocky Mountain Baseball League opener at Larks Park.

Lane Sparks, Jackson Babcock and Taber Stokes all homered in
the Larks (3-0, 1-0 RMBL) four run first inning. After the A’s used a solo homer
in the second to close the gap tp 4-2, Ray Jesse answered with a solo homer in
the bottom of the inning.

The Larks pushed the lead to 6-2 on a Dylan LaRue two-run
single. Trent Baker added an RBI single in the sixth. Babcock hit a two-run
homer to close out the scoring in the eighth.

Three Larks pitchers combined to strike out 14 with only two
walks. Dalton Campbell allowed two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and
two walks over four innings and was awarded the win. Braxton Bjur allowed on
earned run on two hits over three innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Julio
Ramos pitched the eighth and struck out two.

The Larks five home runs are the most in a single game since they hit five&nbsp;at the Colorado Roughriders on July 3, 2022.

The Larks travel to Dodge City Sunday to face the A's in another RMBL contest at 7:00 p.m. at Cavalier Field.

The first look at the proposed 2026 budget for Hays city commissioners started Thursday with funding requests from five outside agencies.

• Fort Hays State University Hays Scholarship Program-$100,000 (same as 2025) • Grow Hays-$180,000 (same as 2025) • The Bricks-$54,000 (same as 2025) • CARE Council Social Service Funds-$180,000 (same as 2025) (Includes ACCESS Public Transportation, First Call for Help, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Hays Senior Center, Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center, Options, CASA of the High Plains, Cancer Council of Ellis County, Western Kansas Association for the Concerns of the Disabled) • ACCESS Public Transportation-$107,673 (new request)&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mayor Sandy Jacobs, who has been involved with The Bricks (formerly the Downtown Hays Development Corporation) since its inception 25 years ago, issued a challenge to the board of directors.

"There's another way of funding this organization and it is within this community. The whole community needs to step up with support and sponsorships for this organization," Jacobs said.&nbsp; 

All the other commissioners agreed with Jacobs.

"Your mission should change," said Commissioner Reese Barrick. "There's filling up businesses, there's stabilizing, and then it's on to the next big thing, new events coming up. ... Challenge yourselves."

A search for a new executive director is underway following the recent departure of Julie Ryder.&nbsp;

"Downtown Hays, The Bricks, is a destination in this city. It's a quality of life thing and the board support is unbelievable," Jacobs said.&nbsp;

She also suggested The Bricks work to incorporate more of the history of downtown Hays into its mission by working with the Ellis County Historical Society.

A new funding request came from ACCESS Public Transportation for $107,673, in addition to the $82,500 included in the CARE Council's recommended distributions.

Jerry Michaud of Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas which operates the system as an ancillary service, told commissioners that ACCESS is facing a budget shortfall of $173,000 due to funding cuts from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

"We've already raised fares," Michaud said. ACCESS is also asking Ellis County for additional funding.

During 2024, ACCESS provided more than 35,000 rides to Hays and Ellis County residents. Most of them were low income, elderly or disabled people.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Commissions offered suggestions of subsidizing trips in cooperation with rideshares and seeking grants.

Nearly 2,400 people responded to the city's online opinion survey during May as to whether Hays should make changes to its fireworks use policy.

James Bell, public relations manager, reported that the majority of respondents wanted no changes.

Currently, the city's fireworks policy allows the sale and use of common fireworks from July 2 through July 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.&nbsp;

The rural areas of Ellis County adhere to the same regulations as Hays.&nbsp;The city of Ellis allows discharge from July 3 to 4, and the city of Victoria only allows it on July 4. 

Jeff Boyle, parks director, presented a proposal to raise fees for the first time in 20 years at the city's two cemeteries, Fort Hays Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Mount Allen Cemetery.

After checking with other communities across the state, Boyle determined&nbsp;all current fees, except for the&nbsp;columbarium niche fees, are well below average.

"This seems like a big jump for one year," Commissioner Shaun Musil said, and suggested the increases be spread over two years.

The other commissioners disagreed with Musil and supported Boyle's recommendations. "It's been 20 years since we've raised them," said Jacobs, "and this keeps us in the middle of other cities' fees."

"The cemetery budget has been operating at a deficit for years," said Boyle, "and probably will continue to do so." He said most cities operate their cemeteries at a loss.

 "It's a&nbsp;quality of life thing," said Toby Dougherty, city manager. "We're not trying to make a profit."

Collin Bielser, assistant city manager, presented the design/build agreement and guaranteed maximum price for Phase 2 services of the new police department and municipal court to be built in Astra Bank, 1100 Fort.&nbsp;

Astra Bank is constructing a new facility at 27th and Main, which is expected to be open by Sept. 1.

PWC, Hays, has presented a guaranteed maximum price&nbsp;of $5.9 million to renovate the existing Astra Bank, giving the police station more than twice the operational space it currently has.&nbsp;

"We're very pleased with it," said Don Scheibler, police chief.

Property/Liability Insurance Coverage Renewal

The city will pay a 30% increase in the premium for its 2025-2026 property/liability insurance policy renewal.&nbsp;

"It was the perfect storm of losses and rate adjustments," said Kim Rupp, finance director. Most of the losses came from wind and hail damage claims.&nbsp;

The city's insurance broker, Taylor Pfannenstiel of Insurance Planning Inc., Hays, concluded the current provider,&nbsp;MPR, offered the lowest cost option.

Rupp said said it is&nbsp;staff’s intention to actively pursue the remarketing&nbsp;process for the renewal in 2026-2027,&nbsp; including a look at hybrid coverage and self-funding.&nbsp;

A proposed low bid for a new LED marquee sign for the Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau, 2700 Vine, was presented by Melissa Dixon, executive director. Commercial Sign, Hays, is the low bidder at $44,773.

The deteriorated sign, installed in 2007, has been dark for two years. Dixon said the message software is no longer supported.&nbsp;

Fort Hays State University’s Esports Club and Department of Informatics are excited to announce a&nbsp;free, four-day STEM-based Gaming Development Camp&nbsp;in July for students entering grades 8 through 12. The day camp will be held in two identical sessions:&nbsp;July 8–11&nbsp;and&nbsp;July 14–17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at FHSU’s Tomanek Hall, Room 123.&nbsp;

Led by&nbsp;Kevin Shaffer, associate professor and interim chair of FHSU’s Department of Informatics, along with members and alumni of the FHSU Esports Club, the camp offers a hands-on introduction to game development using&nbsp;Minecraft for PC. Campers will explore creative and survival modes, learn command line interaction, design gameplay arenas, and develop custom modules. They’ll also dive into 3D modeling to create character skins and participate in a gameplay contest.

“This camp gives students the chance to get under the hood of the game and change gameplay variables—sometimes in very entertaining ways,” Shaffer said.

Lunch, a camp T-shirt, and all materials are free of charge.&nbsp;Each session is limited to 12 participants to ensure a focused, interactive experience.
