While there have been many changes and some big losses from our team of physicians and other health-care providers, there has been, and will be, consistent General Surgical Care at Hays Medical Center from the surgeons and staff who remain at Southwind Surgical.

We enjoyed working with Dr. Grove and appreciated his efforts during his time with Southwind Surgical in helping us to care for our patients in Hays and the surrounding communities. Dr. Charles Schultz worked at both Hadley Regional Medical Center and St. Anthony’s Hospital prior to the merger of the two hospitals. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — At least five Democratic members of Congress from Connecticut were targeted by bomb threats on their homes Thursday, the lawmakers or their offices said.

Sen. Chris Murphy and Reps. Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, John Larson and Jahana Hayes all reported being the subject of such threats. Police who responded said they found no evidence of explosives on the lawmakers' properties.

There was no immediate word whether Rep. Rosa DeLauro, the fifth Democratic House member from the state, and Connecticut’s other Democratic senator received threats.

The bomb threats against Democrats happened a day after a number of President-elect&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a>&nbsp;’s most prominent Cabinet picks and appointees reported that they had&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-transition-bomb-threats-swatting-0a7f2166087f7c455cbba5b717dae439">received such threats</a>, as well as “swatting attacks," in which perpetrators initiate an emergency law enforcement response against a victim under false pretenses.

Murphy's office said his Hartford home was the target of a bomb threat, “which appears to be part of a coordinated effort involving multiple members of Congress and public figures.” Hartford Police and U.S. Capitol Police determined there was no threat.

Hayes said the Wolcott Police Department informed her Thursday morning that it had received “a threatening email stating a pipe bomb had been placed in the mailbox at my home.” State police, U.S. Capitol Police, and the House sergeant at arms were notified, Wolcott and state police responded “and no bomb or explosive materials were discovered.”

Courtney's Vernon home received a bomb threat while his wife and children were there, his office said.

Himes said he was told of the threat against his home during a Thanksgiving celebration with his family. The U.S. Capitol Police, and Greenwich and Stamford police departments responded.

Hines extended his family's “utmost gratitude to our local law enforcement officers for their immediate action to ensure our safety.” Echoing other lawmakers who were threatened, he added: “There is no place for political violence in this country, and I hope that we may all continue through the holiday season with peace and civility.”

Larson also said Thursday that East Hartford Police responded to a bomb threat against his home.

The FBI declined to give details on the latest episodes except to say it is investigating them in partnership with other agencies.

The threats follow an election season marked by violence. In July, a gunman opened fire at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, grazing him in the ear and killing one of his supporters. Bomb threats: Trump cabinet picks and now Dem lawmakers

Hays has one of the highest participation rates among Kansas's 40 or so municipal recycling programs.

About 80% of Hays residential customers are putting out their blue bags to be picked up at their homes by the recycling crew from the Solid Waste division of the Public Works Department.&nbsp;

There's no collection fee charged for the recycling program.

Blue bags are available for purchase at several locations in Hays, including Walmart, Dillons, and Westlake Ace Hardware.

Paper and cardboard go in one blue or clear plastic bag and a second co-mingled bag is filled with plastic containers No. 1-No. 7, glass jars, and aluminum and tin cans.

There's also the option of dropping recyclables off at the recycling center,&nbsp;1780 W. 55th St., in the metal collection bins just outside the building.

Any area resident is allowed to utilize the drop-off bins at the processing center north of Hays.&nbsp;

"We get a lot of people from Rooks County coming in. We also had a woman from Hill City call and say they were coming to Hays to shop and wanted to know if they could drop off their recyclables," said Steve Dreiling, foreman, "and they did. We allow that."&nbsp;

"The city of Hays has one of the finest recycling programs in the state of Kansas," said Marvin Honas,&nbsp;Solid Waste Division superintendent. 

The local program has been recognized several times by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

"That's all due to our citizens. They're the ones that make this program work," Honas said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It started 24 years ago with an intensive public education program focusing on school children.

"They'd get the information and then take it home to educate their parents," Honas said. "Our hat goes off to our customers for their devotion to our program."

It's easy to utilize, and the city knows its residents want to feel good about keeping trash out of the waste stream.

Jesse Rohr, public works director, said although the city is paid for some of its recyclables, the popular program is not a money-maker.

Currently, <a href="https://www.internationalpaper.com/recycling/locations/wichita-recycling">International Paper of Wichita</a> pays $85 a ton for Hays'&nbsp; cardboard/paper bales, which weigh almost 1,500 pounds each. A semi-trailer is filled with 31 bales every 10 days and then is picked up by International Paper and taken to Wichita. An empty trailer is left in its place.

The plastics are driven in a roll-off to <a href="https://www.stutzmanrefuse.com/">Stutzman Refuse Disposal in Hutchinson</a> by Hays employees every four days.

The city pays Stutzman to accept the co-mingled loads.&nbsp;

"Right now, we pay to get rid of it, about $25,000 a year currently," said Rohr.

The recyclables market fluctuates widely.

It has plummeted at times to as low as $5 a ton for paper. Recycled plastics have often been less desirable than paper, although the industry is on the upswing, according to numerous financial market analyses.

Several years ago, city commissioners discussed whether is was financially feasible to continue the recycling program. They decided to keep it going.

"We get some revenue that helps us sustain the program," Rohr said.&nbsp;"We just try to recoup our costs."&nbsp;

Every weekday, the recycling crew hits the streets at 7 a.m. to pick up the recycling.

Workers tear open the blue bags and dump the contents into the paper/cardboard or the co-mingles compartment. The blue bags are kept separate and will wind up as trash.

The weekday route is completed by about noon. In the afternoon, employees process the loads at the recycling center.

The city just purchased a new paper baler for $124,000, replacing the original machine, which ran 24 years.

"This program is a well-oiled machine," Rohr said.

Dreiling said there are some things the city cannot recycle and won't accept.

"We do not accept bubble wrap, Styrofoam, any kind of plastic wrapping or plastic shopping bags. Some things may say they're recyclable but they're not recyclable in our program."

If you're unsure whether something is accepted in Hays, Dreiling advises calling the Public Works office at 785-628-7350 or checking the city's <a href="https://www.haysusa.com/DocumentCenter/View/376/Recycling-Pamphlet-PDF">website</a>.

The eight-man crew is used to working in less-than-perfect weather conditions.

"If it's windy, you can put a rock on the blue bags to keep them from blowing away. If it's raining, we'll still pick it up," Dreiling said. "The cardboard will dry out."

Even though the city offers a recycling program, Honas said the best way to make a difference in the amount of trash produced is to "reduce your consumption, reuse or repurposes what you can, and then recycle."

🎥 Hays recycling program among most popular in Kansas

The Department of Applied Technology at Fort Hays State University is once again looking for “elves” to help make toys.

The annual Fred P. Ruda Teaming Up For Tots event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the wood shop of the Center for Applied Technology. 

Community volunteers are invited to come and go as their schedules permit. No reservations are required.

This year’s toy is a wooden helicopter. Approximately 200 will be made for children in the area, ages 2 through 6.

According to the department’s website, “The program is designed to spread holiday cheer to local children who may not otherwise receive Christmas presents. All ages are welcome to volunteer for toy production, but children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.”

Jobs include sanding, running parts from station to station, putting on wheels, attaching parts, finishing and, for those who have experience, running some machine operations.

 </figure>SubmittedThe Department of Applied Technology at Fort Hays State University is once again looking for “elves” to help make toys.The annual Fred P. Ruda Teaming Up For Tots event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the wood shop of the Center for Applied Technology. Community volunteers are invited to come and go as their schedules permit. No reservations are required.This year’s toy is a wooden helicopter. Approximately 200 will be made for children in the area, ages 2 through 6.According to the department’s website, “The program is designed to spread holiday cheer to local children who may not otherwise receive Christmas presents. All ages are welcome to volunteer for toy production, but children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.”Jobs include sanding, running parts from station to station, putting on wheels, attaching parts, finishing and, for those who have experience, running some machine operations.

The&nbsp;Bethesda Place men and WeKan Center students have made a variety of homemade Christmas decor items and other gifts that can be purchased.

NAPA Gib's Auto Supply is celebrating its 60-year legacy as a multi-generational family-run business in Hays, continuing to serve the next generation of loyal customers.

The automotive parts store, 621 E. 13th St., celebrated its 60th anniversary with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 8.

Owner Tony Schippers said the industry has evolved since he and his brothers began their careers in La Crosse, following in their father’s footsteps.

"It's a faster-paced business than 60 years ago," he said. "We'd go down to La Crosse and help him during seasonal times, did odd and ends there."

Tony and his family have deep roots in the local automotive market, mainly through their long-time connection with NAPA Auto Parts.

After his military service, Tony's father, Gilbert Francis "Gib" Schippers, worked as a parts manager at a car dealership in Russell. In 1964, Gilbert partnered with NAPA to establish Gib's Auto Supply in Hays.

Tony and his brothers took on various tasks from an early age, gradually gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Gerald Schippers, Tony's brother, is among several family members who have worked at the auto store between Hays and LaCrosse.

"As soon as [Gerald] was old enough to come down and dust shelves, clean toilets, deliver whatever it might be, he was doing it," Tony said. "My middle brother followed, and then I followed him."

The family also ran a second NAPA store in LaCrosse from 1972 to 2019, which served as a training ground for the brothers before they moved on to the Hays location.

Gib's Auto Supply continues to have a solid connection to LaCrosse as Gerald manages outside sales and other areas in the store.

"We have a 30-mile radius. We go to Victoria, Ellis, Plainville, LaCrosse. That's our markets that we reach out to," Tony said.

Tony's son, Colby Schippers, is the third generation at Gib's Auto Supply. Now serving as the operations manager, Colby began his journey by taking on entry-level tasks, just as his father did.

Gib's Auto Supply provides automotive parts for cars and trucks, including batteries, brakes, filters, headlights, wipers, and various tools and equipment.

Tony said what sets the store apart from others in the area is the close relationships the family-owned business has built with its customers.

"It's our personal service and longevity," he said. "We're servicing customers that are second-generation customers too."

"We've had great employees through the years, excellent health that allows us to do things most businesses would have to pull in somebody else," Gerald said.

Over the past 60 years, the family navigated challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and oil-related issues but has continued to serve Hays.

"It's nice to see that you've started something and have been able to grow and expand it. Not only have customers but what we would call them friends now," Tony said.

"You sometimes wonder if you went down the right path, but after reflection, it's been rewarding," Gerald said.

NAPA Gib's Auto Supply is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

NWester: NAPA Gib's Auto Supply in Hays reflects, celebrates 60th anniversary

Fort Hays Tech | North Central is excited to announce a $750,000 grant from the Patterson Family Foundation to support the college’s new Construction Programs Building, an initiative aimed at expanding access to skilled trades education. This significant contribution will help equip the facility with essential machinery, advanced tools, equipment, classroom resources, and the latest technology to support programs in Construction Technology, Electrical Technology, Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning (PHAC), and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training.

The nearly 30,000-square-foot building will increase capacity for students entering the construction and technical trades, fields that are in high demand both locally and nationally. By supporting the addition of state-of-the-art tools and technologies, the grant will ensure that students graduate with job-ready skills necessary to excel in these critical industries.

Patterson Family Foundation awards $750,000 grant to support Fort Hays Tech | NC

Ruby Ellen McAdoo Smith Coleman, age 77, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away on November 19, 2024. She was born August 8, 1947, to Stewart Leslie McAdoo and Josie Edna McAdoo (Vanhoutan) in Stockton, KS. She is the 7th child of 11 children.

Ruby went to school in Russell her whole life. She went to Fossil Creek school and graduated from Russell High School in 1966. She met Keith Smith in 1965 and married in 1966. In this union they had 4 daughters. They later divorced. She met and married Donald Coleman and had one daughter in the marriage. They later divorced.

Ruby lived in a numerous places. Albert, KS for 7 years, Arapahoe, NE for 10 years, Otis-Bison area for 3 years, Russell from 1984-2011. From Russell she moved to the Great Bend area for 9 years before making her home in Norman, Oklahoma. She enjoyed quilting, bowling, writing poetry, sewing, doing word searches, drawing and painting, playing her games on her IPAD, coloring, and watching Hallmark Movies.

She attended beauty school right after high school. She worked in healthcare for many years. She cleaned and drove the city bus for Russell for many years. She worked in convenience stores and a grocery store, as well as a department store. Her last job was driving people to and from their appointments. She loved being able to help people.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. She was an active member of several congregations, the longest being First Southern Baptist Church of Russell, KS. She was also a girl scout leader. A member of Women’s auxiliary, Quilts of Valor, and the American Legion.

Ruby is proceeded in death by her parents, her sisters Alice Zordel and Martha Batman (Charles still living), brothers Leslie McAdoo (Judy still living) and Stewart McAdoo (Janet deceased). She is survived by her children: Sherry Fleming and Pamela Smith of Norman, Oklahoma, Regina Jacobs of Hays, KS, Sarah Smith-Orr of Topeka, KS and Stacey (Duncan) Holley of Hays, KS; 12 grandchildren: Marcus (Jen), Tricia, Tony Jr, Chyna, Timothy, Afrika, DaShawn, Khalil, Marla, Tamia, Donatello, Stefan. 12 Great Grandchildren: Eric, Darious, Javontae, Brayleigh, Genesis, Brysen, Maliyah, Tiana, Miles, Monroe, Jude, Sloane; siblings Josie Doty (Larry deceased), Evelyn Monroe (Leroy deceased), Mary Pollock, Edna Coyle (Robert), William McAdoo (Carol), Larry McAdoo (Darlene). And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.

The family is having a celebration of life service on December 7, 2024, in Russell, KS at the Elks Lodge from 10-2. There will be a short service with lunch afterwards. It is a potluck event. Victoria can be heard on 101.9 Saturday morning. Game Day Live begins at 10:15. The pregame show goes at 10:45 and kickoff is 11:00.

Mary
Louise (Fellers) Pennington, 97, a longtime resident of Graham County, died Nov.
24, 2024 in Broomfield, CO. 

Mary
Lou was born on Aug. 9, 1927 in Hays, KS to Harvey Webster Fellers and Mary A.
(Dague) Fellers, the fifth of six children. 

Mary
Lou graduated from Hays High School in May 1945, four months before the end of
World War II. She enrolled that fall at Fort Hays State College where she developed
her lifelong passion for English literature and grammar. 

At
Fort Hays, Mary Lou was president of Women’s Leadership, the feature writer for
the college newspaper and a member of the Delta Sigma Epsilon sorority. She was
also a Tigerette, a member of the student council and played violin in the
college orchestra. She also played the female lead in several college theater
productions, receiving critical acclaim.

While
in college, Mary Lou met the love of her life, Russell Pennington, who was
attending college after having served in the U.S. Navy. They were married on
Aug. 25, 1949, shortly after her college graduation, in the Hays United
Methodist Church. It was a marriage that would last&nbsp; 73 years until Russell’s death in February 2023.

After
Russell’s graduation the following year, they moved to Rozel, Kansas where Mary
Lou taught high school English and Russell was principal of the grade school.

After
three years in Rozel, they moved to the Pennington family farm north of Bogue
so Russell could share farming responsibilities with his brother, Walter. Here,
Russell and Mary Lou began a family: Russell Mark was born in 1954 and William
Dane was born in 1956. The young family moved to Bogue in the spring of 1958. They
built their “forever” home in Bogue in 1961 and lived in it for 58 years.&nbsp; 

Also
in 1961, Mary Lou began teaching English literature at Palco High School, which
she enjoyed immensely. She loved her students and they loved her back. She not
only instilled in her students a love of great literature, but, because she was
among the youngest teachers on staff, she was frequently sought out for advice on
how to handle a student’s latest relationship crisis.

In
1964, she began teaching 7th and 8th grade English
literature and grammar in the Bogue Grade School. Thus began generations of
Bogue students who, for the first five minutes of every class, listened to Mary
Lou read “Old Yeller” and “Savage Sam” in seventh grade. In eighth grade, at
her request to the school board, her students made the leap to reading Shakespeare’s
“Julius Caesar.” For the rest of her life, on each March 15, Mary Lou would hear
former students shout, “Mrs. Pennington! It’s the Ides of March!” She loved it.

After
retiring from teaching full-time in 1990, Mary Lou was a substitute teacher at
the Bogue Grade School and Hill City High School where she exposed another
generation of students to good grammar and great literature.

Because
of their advancing age, in June 2019 Mary Lou and Russell moved to the Sunrise
Assisted Living facility in Broomfield, CO, just four blocks from their son and
daughter-in-law, Dane and Sandy.

Mary
Lou was an avid reader and enjoyed memorizing poetry. Well into her 90s she
could recite by heart the 1,000-word epic poem, The Highwayman, by Alfred
Noyes. On her deathbed, she mouthed the words as her sons and grandsons read
the poem to her.

Mary
Lou was a member of the Bogue United Methodist Church. She often said her
favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm, especially the line “My cup
runneth over.” She served on the church’s administrative council as well as on
the board of trustees. She taught the adult Builders’ Sunday School Class for 58
years. She served on the Bogue City Council, the Graham County Arts Council and
the Graham County Library Board. She served as a state officer of the Kansas
Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary. Mary Lou was a member of the Bogue TPM Club,
the United Methodist Women and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Survivors
include Mark and his wife, Josie, of Pittsburgh, PA; Dane and his wife, Sandy, of
Superior, CO, and their three sons: Grant; Tyler and his wife, Brittany; Connor
and his wife, Rachael, and their toddler son Grady. All three grandsons live in
the Denver area. 

Preceding
Mary Lou in death were her husband, Russell; her parents, Harvey and Mary
Fellers; her sisters, Ila Fern Crumrine, Marjorie Mowry, Dorothy Hill and
Winnie Rector, and her brother, Warren.

Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024 at the Bogue United Methodist
Church with Pastor Julie Truhlar and Mary Lou’s nephew, Steve Hill, officiating.
The public is invited for a final viewing at 9:15 a.m. at the church, prior to
the service.

Burial
will be in the Wildhorse Township Cemetery in Bogue. Memorials may be given to
the Bogue United Methodist Church, Bogue, Kansas, 67625.

Hays High will be playing in the 5A KSHSAA State Championship game on Saturday. The game is hosted by Emporia State University at Welch Stadium at 7:00. It is the Indians first ever football championship game.

Eagle Media will be streaming the game with Dustin Armbruster and Matt Dumler on the call. The game can be purchased on Saturday. Those who have purchased a year long pass will be able to watch through that prior purchase.&nbsp;

I received&nbsp;a&nbsp;stem cell transplant four years ago&nbsp;at KU. For ongoing treatment, I chose Dreiling/Schmidt Cancer Institute of&nbsp;HaysMed, not KU.&nbsp;Easy decision; it was local.

Dr. Rodriguez had been keeping close tabs on me for a couple of years before the transplant became necessary.&nbsp;Great bedside manner. Great sense of humor. Experienced, empathetic and extremely knowledgeable.&nbsp;But overworked. I know that&nbsp;for sure, as he is&nbsp;now&nbsp;one of two oncologists left&nbsp;here at&nbsp;HaysMed&nbsp;though the&nbsp;department&nbsp;had been hoping for a fourth oncologist just&nbsp;last year.

Dr. Grove did my colonoscopies. Great bedside manner. Great sense of humor. Experienced, empathetic&nbsp;and extremely knowledgeable.&nbsp;&nbsp;

I’ve heard it said everyone is replaceable. I suppose that is an accurate statement. It doesn’t&nbsp;say, however, that the replacement will be better&nbsp;or that the replacement will come soon.&nbsp;What cannot be replaced—ever—is&nbsp;the doctor/patient relationship established over time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Why have 21&nbsp;health care providers&nbsp;abandoned&nbsp;HaysMed&nbsp;since Jan. 1, 2024?&nbsp;What has made it such a difficult place to help people that physicians have uprooted families and moved away?&nbsp;Who is not listening to those who&nbsp;actually work with patients?&nbsp;&nbsp;

If&nbsp;HaysMed&nbsp;is to be part of Hays’ future, the bleeding has to stop.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The first three phases of Tallgrass 2nd Addition housing in east Hays have been so successful the developer&nbsp;Heart of America is moving on to Phase 4.

Heart of America&nbsp;is a nonprofit local group that helps further economic development in Ellis County.

Phases 1-3 are almost built out using an existing&nbsp;Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID) at East 22nd Street and Wheatland Avenue. A new RHID is requested by the developer immediately north of the current RHID to Interstate 70.

City commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday regarding a shortage of quality housing based on the 2022 needs study by Fort Hays State University Docking Institute of Public Affairs. The findings must be approved by the Kansas Department of Commerce.

If approved, the RHID will capture the incremental real property taxes, less the state's 1.5 mills and Hays USD 489's 20 mills, for up to 25 years.

Heart of America&nbsp;is proposing the city finance and construct the project using bonds while utilizing the RHID revenues to offset the city's costs. 

The developer will provide a deposit equal to 30% of the projected infrastructure costs.

All 54 houses in Phases 1-3 have been purchased, although 12 are still under construction.

Phase 4 is platted for about 101 lots. The development is almost twice the size of the other three combined.&nbsp;

"That's a lot of lots," said Doug Williams, Grow Hays executive director. "Based on the arrangement we have for repayment of bonds, we're going to be very anxious to get things built."

"If that pace slows for any reason, there may be an opportunity to look at different price points for homes. There are also some areas that might lend themselves well to multi-family dwellings," Williams said.

The new houses in Phase 4 could look slightly different from the existing development.

"We have a couple of areas we'd like to look at for higher density single-family homes, which would require a planned development.

"But primarily, we hope to continue the same kind of concept that's been so successful so far," Williams said.

According to a study, to sustain population growth of 1%, or 220 new residents, for the city of Hays, the community needs to add 88 living units per year.&nbsp;

Heart of America expects construction to begin in 2025 following all city approvals.&nbsp;

(MANHATTAN) – Thirty-four scholarship winners for the 2024-25 school year were recognized during the annual Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) Convention November 20 in Manhattan. A total of $38,500 was presented by the Kansas Livestock Foundation (KLF) and its partners.

Two students attending the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University each have been awarded a $1,500 Cartridges for Cash (CFC) scholarship from Merck Animal Health and KLF.&nbsp;Maggie Brown&nbsp;of Wallace is the daughter of Nathan and Sara Brown.&nbsp;Chance Kopsa, the son of Kyle and Cassie Kopsa, is from Beloit. This award recognizes K-State veterinary school students with a career goal of being a large animal veterinarian.

Four students majoring in animal sciences and industry (ASI) at K-State each received $1,000 CFC scholarships through KLF.&nbsp;Ethan Kneisler,&nbsp;a junior from Lyndon, is the son of James and Kristin Kneisler.&nbsp;Sadie Marchiano&nbsp;of Fort Scott, daughter of Gary and Kylene Palmer, is a senior.&nbsp;Karsyn Sikes, daughter of Rusten and Rebecca Sikes of Clyde, is a junior.&nbsp;Hailey Wurtz&nbsp;from Seneca, daughter of Jerin and Stephanie Wurtz, also is a junior.&nbsp;One&nbsp;Fort Hays State University (FHSU) student also received the $1,000 award.&nbsp;Caleb McAfee&nbsp;from Valley Falls is a senior at FHSU majoring in animal science. He is the son of David and Janet McAfee. This scholarship is presented to students entering or returning to a Kansas community or senior college and pursuing degrees in agriculture or a related field. CFC scholarships are funded by Merck’s donation of 25¢ for each used Ralgro wheel and Revalor cartridge turned in to KLA. In 2023, members from Haskell County turned in the most cartridges. As a result, one student from that county was awarded a $1,000 CFC scholarship.&nbsp;Katelynn Delaplane&nbsp;of Satanta, the daughter of Doug and Kelly Delaplane, is a freshman at FHSU studying animal sciences and farm and ranch management.

Two students were awarded $1,500 Douglas A. Laue Memorial Scholarships.&nbsp;Keegan Craig&nbsp;is the son of Rex and Lori Craig from Talmage. He is a junior majoring in agronomy business at FHSU.&nbsp;Kash Liddeke, son of Duane and Keri Liddeke from Norwich, is a senior majoring in agricultural economics at K-State. This scholarship is awarded to students entering their junior or senior year at K-State or Fort Hays State University and pursuing degrees in agriculture.&nbsp;

Kiran Elam&nbsp;of Beloit has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from GoBob America’s Ranch Equipment and KLF. Elam is the daughter of Dave and Chris Elam. She is a senior at K-State majoring in agricultural economics. This scholarship is awarded to a student entering or returning to a Kansas community or senior college and pursuing a degree in agriculture or a related field.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Two $1,000 Hampel Oil Scholarships have been presented to FHSU students.&nbsp;Amy Foos, daughter of Bryan and Jennifer Foos of Ness City, is a senior majoring in agricultural business.&nbsp;Aubrey Warden&nbsp;is the daughter of Ron and April Warden from Sublette. She also is a senior majoring in agricultural business. This scholarship is awarded to students entering their junior or senior year at K-State or Fort Hays State University and pursuing degrees in agronomy, agribusiness or agricultural economics. Preference is given to applicants with a career goal of being actively engaged in a farming or feedyard enterprise.

The $1,000 Scott Johnson and Family Scholarship was awarded to&nbsp;Creed Caldwell&nbsp;of Parker. He is the son of Matt and Marcie Caldwell and is a freshman majoring in ASI at K-State. This scholarship is awarded to any student attending K-State and pursuing a degree in ASI, agricultural communications and journalism, agribusiness or agricultural economics.

Tyree Figge&nbsp;was awarded the $500 Fred H. Woodbury Memorial Scholarship through KLF. Figge is the son of Darrin and Gayla Figge from Onaga. He is a sophomore at K-State majoring in agribusiness. This scholarship is presented to a student attending a Kansas junior or senior college and pursuing a degree in agriculture. Preference is given to students residing within Chase, Franklin, Lyon, Osage or Wabaunsee counties.

Six students from across the state have received $1,000 “Youth in Agriculture” scholarships from KLF.&nbsp;Jaydee Abitz&nbsp;is the daughter of Justin Abitz from Wheaton. She is a freshman majoring in agriculture services and productions at Cloud County Community College.&nbsp;Abigail Lillard&nbsp;of Abilene is the daughter of Kregg and Katie Kohman. She is a senior at K-State majoring in agricultural communications.&nbsp;Lincoln Martin, Bucklin, is the son of Eric and Holly Martin. He is a freshman majoring in agribusiness at Butler Community College (BCC).&nbsp;Ashley Peters&nbsp;is the daughter of Ryan and Jamie Peters from Lehigh. She is a freshman majoring in animal science at BCC.&nbsp;Mason Springer, son of Michael and Christy Springer of Neodesha, is a freshman at K-State majoring in agricultural economics.&nbsp;Bryson Stejskal&nbsp;of Ulysses is the son of Jan Goehring. He is a senior majoring in feed science and pet food science at K-State. Funded by the KLF Club Calf Sale held during the Kansas Junior Livestock Show, these scholarships recognize students entering or returning to a Kansas junior or senior college and pursuing degrees in agriculture or a related field.

She is a freshman majoring in ASI.&nbsp;Sydney Heller, daughter of Kylo and Sarah Heller of Hunter, is a freshman majoring in agribusiness.&nbsp;Erin Livingston&nbsp;from Ottawa is the daughter of Brandon and Amy Livingston. She is a freshman majoring in ASI.&nbsp;Hannah Macke, daughter of Steven and Jessie Macke from Baileyville, is a senior majoring in agribusiness.&nbsp;Avery Ziegler&nbsp;from WaKeeney is the daughter of Lance and Libby Ziegler. She is a freshman majoring in ASI.&nbsp;Kiley Whipple&nbsp;of Kalvesta, daughter of Toby and Michelle Whipple, is a senior at FHSU majoring in agricultural education. This scholarship, funded by the KCW silent auction, is awarded to students entering or returning to a Kansas community or senior college and pursuing degrees in dietetics, food safety, agriculture or a related field.Two new scholarships were awarded through KLF this year. Equity Bank $2,500 scholarships were awarded to two K-State juniors majoring in ASI.&nbsp;Nicole Haase&nbsp;of Ellsworth is the daughter of Arrin and Kristin Haase.&nbsp;Cecillia Newby&nbsp;is the daughter of David and DeRhonda Newby from Oswego. Equity Bank provides services for KLA and its affiliated entities and is proud to support KLF scholarships. Three K-State freshmen each received a Rally House EAT BEEF $1,000 scholarship.&nbsp;Doak Guttery, the son of Brice and Shana Guttery of Alton, is majoring in ASI.&nbsp;Lyle Perrier&nbsp;of Eureka, son of Matt and Amy Perrier, is majoring in ASI.&nbsp;Kaden Weltmer,&nbsp;Smith Center, is majoring in ASI and agronomy and is the son of Philip and Jessica Weltmer.
