Myrtle Lee (Stevens) Shaw, 86, of Colby, died Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in Oakley, KS.
Myrtle Lee was born on Jan. 19, 1934, to Leonard and Della Marie (Chapman) Stevens, in a sod house, on a creek, southwest of Hoxie, KS.
She lived there for five months before moving to Hoxie. The family then moved to Denver when Myrtle Lee was 4 years old. When she was 10, they returned to the family farm by Grainfield. Myrtle Lee graduated from Hoxie High School in 1953.
Myrtle Lee married Dale Rowlison and they later divorced. On Nov. 30, 1966, she married Gerald Rex Shaw, in Hoxie.
They moved to the family farm in Selden, with Myrtle Lee’s six children. Rex and Myrtle Lee enjoyed farming, going to antique tractor shows together and snowmobiling and spending time at their cabin in the mountains.
Myrtle Lee grew a big garden and canned her vegetables. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities and spending time with them.
Myrtle Lee was often found sitting in her recliner crocheting another afghan or doily, cross-stitching a picture and making embroidery designs on pillowcases.
Myrtle Lee moved to Colby in 2005, after Rex passed away. She enjoyed attending shows by the Western Plains Arts Association with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex; daughter Dianna Rowlison; brother Le Roy Stevens and brothers-in-law, Frank Karnes, Bob Randolph, Gail Oliver and Jarold Tex Shaw.
Survivors include three daughters, Pat (Dennis) Sharp, of Dighton, Vicky (Kelvin) Sulzman, of Oakley, and Wanda Schritter, of Goodland; two sons, Richard (Nikki) Rowlison, of Jennings and Ricky (Luanne) Rowlison, of Hays; two sisters, Darlene Karnes, of Colby and Maybelle Randolph, of Hoxie; two sisters-in-law, Doris Jean Oliver, of Rexford and Charlene Shaw, of Selden; 10 grandchildren, Susan (Toby) Wilson, of Dighton, Tanya (Chris) Davis, of Norton, Stacy (Brian) Wolf, of Oakley, Kristi (Joe) Hopkins, of Garden City, Teresa (Mike) Connell, of Dorrance, Joe Rowlison, Amanda (Logan) West, of Hutchison, Kayla (Bruce) Weigel, of Norton, Gary (Jessica) Sharp, of Blair, Neb., and Melissa Schritter, of Goodland; 18 great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2020 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020 also at the mortuary. Burial will take place in Selden Cemetery.
