Richard Lee Henry,
age 90, of Hill City, Kansas, died February 17, 2026, surrounded by his family
in the home he loved. He was born in Rural Graham County near Bow Creek to
Vernon and Hazel (Fredde) Henry. He was the last child born in a sod house in
Graham County. His childhood was spent surrounded by four sisters and one
brother.&nbsp; 

Following his
educational years began in a country school, he attended and graduated from
Hill City High School.&nbsp; Richard enjoyed playing football and basketball
and was quite good at both. Richard always worked hard. He took a job of
&nbsp;roofing houses before and after high school. He married Bonita Robinson
from Trego County. The couple had three children and&nbsp; later divorced.

Richard moved
to Colorado and then Montana where he got into car sales. However, even as a
kid, Richard was a rockhound always into rock hunting and collecting. In
Montana and Wyoming, digging for rocks became a passion. From then on, he spent
his life doing what he loved as a successful rock man. His business was the
Jayhawk Rock Shop. The rocks he gathered were polished and made into many
lovely pieces of jewelry. Later he married Peggy Sue Denney. The two of them
traveled to many rock shows all over the United States. Each year they spent
winters among the rock and gem fanatics in Quartzsite, Arizona. He was well
known as “Dick", “Jayhawk" or “Rock Man". 

While coming down&nbsp; mountain switchbacks in Montana, Richard experienced a
lifesaving Divine Intervention from God.&nbsp; He became a follower of Christ
and his Faith in Christ defined his life. Faith was everything to him and he
had a steadfast peace in his heart that came from the hope of the Gospel. 

Richard was immensely loved by his children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.Was always fun to be around
and had a unique sense of humor until the very end. He even began enjoying his
cats! 

Preceding him in
death were his parents; siblings: Roger Henry and Betty Mauck; and his
daughter, Sandra Koerperich. Left to carry on his legacy of love for Christ and
Family are his children: Brenda Estes of Hill City and Ryan Henry of Palm
Springs, California; sisters: Marilyn Grigsby of Texas, Doris (Vic) Wagoner of
Edmond, Lois Zelenka of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren
and two great-great &nbsp;grandchildren.&nbsp;

Born
on October 7, 1943, in Damar, Kansas, Doug Berland passed away peacefully on
February 11, 2026, in Florence, Arizona, at the age of 82.



Doug was the son of Blanche and Alverize Berland. He grew up in Damar and
graduated from Damar High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in
Education from Fort Hays State University.



Doug's life was marked by a deep appreciation for nature and a zest for outdoor
adventure. He found joy in camping, boating, golfing, and playing pickleball.
Summers were spent amid the scenic beauty of Chateau Chaparral in Buena Vista,
Colorado, while winters brought him to the warmth of Florence, Arizona. These
seasonal retreats reflected his love for the outdoors and his desire to share
those experiences with friends and loved ones.



Doug was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus in both Florence and
Damar. His faith and community involvement were important parts of his life.



He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine, whom he married in May 1992; his
daughter Beth Brown (Brian); son Bradley (Nikki); five stepchildren: Gwyn Marie
Schmidtberger, Aaron Schmidtberger (Victoria), Kandra Schmidtberger, Russ
Schmidtberger, and Ryan Schmidtberger (Angela); fifteen grandchildren; and ten
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Paul, Vince, and
Bryan; and sisters Roberta, Carolyn, and Debbie.



Doug was preceded in death by his parents Blanche and Alverize Berland; his
daughter Belinda; and his brother Harlan.



Over the years, Doug owned and operated a custom harvesting business that
stretched from Canada to Texas, later devoted himself to education as both a
teacher and bus driver, and built a rental property business. Whether in the
fields, the classroom, or at home, Doug's life was defined not only by what he
did, but by how he showed up for the people he loved. He carried a strong work
ethic and a steady commitment to providing for and supporting his family - a
devotion that remained steadfast even through the profound loss of his daughter
Belinda. The final 34 years of Doug's life were spent in marriage to Lorraine,
building a shared life marked by companionship, faith, travel, and seasonal
traditions in Colorado and Arizona.



A rosary will precede the Memorial Service at 9:00 a.m., followed by the
Memorial Mass on March 7, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Assumption of
the Blessed Virgin Mary, 221 E. 8th Street, Florence, Arizona 85132. 

Doug's
ashes will be laid to rest in a Mass and burial service on May 2, 2026 at 10:00
am at St. Joseph's Church, 107 Oak Street, Damar, Kansas 67632.



Doug's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ama
Vida Care Home in San Tan Valley, Arizona, for the compassion, dignity, and
attentive care they provided in his final days. With gentle presence and
kindness, the caregivers ensured that he was comfortable and surrounded by
tenderness as he made his peaceful transition.

Dick was born July 12, 1943 to Mark and Caroline (Ludeke) Ramsey in
Holdrege, Nebraska.

He attended Agra High School, Kearney St. College and Brown-Mackie
College, SMU Graduate for Banking School.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Liz” Zoller, his children;
Jeffrey Ramsey (Jill) and Stacey Cleary (Jim), grandchildren, Hannah, Emily,
Grant and two great grandchildren, and brother, Mark Ramsey.

Cremation was chosen and private services will be at a later date.
Inurnment will take place at the Ashrock Cemetery, Woodston, Kansas.

Scott Christopher Palecki, 55

Ila
M. (Richards) Simon, Pierson, age 90, passed away on February 20th , 2026. She was
born on January 16, 1936, in rural Sheridan County, Kansas, to Harry and Hazel (Mace)
Richards. 

She attended grade school in the country and then graduated Hoxie High
School in the class of 1953. Ila and Dwayne Simon were married December 21st
of 1952. To this union five children were born: Curtis, Melanie, David and two who died
in&nbsp; infancy.
Life on the farm was busy with cattle, hogs, chickens, and crops. Ila was aloving
mother, and she made many sacrifices and cared greatly for her family. Like her mother
she was a superb cook and gardener. She loved having flowers in the yard, raised
strawberries and a large garden. She was particularly good at tending her houseplants.
Petunias, iris, and sunflowers were some of her favorite flowers outside. She
made jelly, canned different garden vegetables and fruits which her family
enjoyed.&nbsp;Pickles
of several varieties were a specialty. The kids and grandkids knew her to be
the&nbsp;cream
pie queen—requesting her chocolate and coconut cream pies often. Browniesand
cool whip were favorites as well. Her mashed potatoes were always the
creamiest. She
played piano and loved singing all her life. She married John Pierson in 1975. Going
with him in the semi-truck she saw parts of the country she had not seen previously.

Ila
was employed in different places over the years: working at Sheridan County Hospital,
cooking at several restaurants, caring for elderly in their homes, and just before
retiring managing the Quinter Senior Center where she was known for her dedication
and warm spirit. A member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church her unwavering faith
in Jesus Christ is the hallmark of her life as she battled life’s challenges.

She
is survived by her children: Curtis Simon and wife Deb of Quinter, Kansas;
Melanie Cooper
and husband Kevin of Hoxie, Kansas; and David Simon and wife Leah of Princeville,
Hawaii. Her grandchildren are Stephen Simon (Sarah), Becky Bruna (Lance),
Jaime May (Steve), Jesse Cooper (Sydney), Justin Cooper (Lindsay), and Qing Xia Simon. She
is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Taylor Koch (Hunter), Madison
Bruna, Oliver
Simon, Autumn Simon, Derrick McMillan, Colton McMillan, Hannah McMillan, Tatum
Cooper, Micah Cooper, Kayden Cooper, and Kolby Cooper.

She
was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hazel Richards; infant children Dwayna
and Danny Simon; brothers, Harold and Dean Richards; and sister Alta Gaede.

A
funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:30 am at
Mount Pleasant
Baptist Church, Studley, KS. Visitation
will be Friday, February 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m., with family receiving
friends from
5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home.

M. (Richards) Simon, Pierson, age 90, passed away on February 20th , 2026. She was
born on January 16, 1936, in rural Sheridan County, Kansas, to Harry and Hazel (Mace)
Richards. She attended grade school in the country and then graduated Hoxie High
School in the class of 1953. Ila and Dwayne Simon were married December 21st
of 1952. To this union five children were born: Curtis, Melanie, David and two who died
in&nbsp; infancy.
Life on the farm was busy with cattle, hogs, chickens, and crops. Ila was aloving
mother, and she made many sacrifices and cared greatly for her family. Like her mother
she was a superb cook and gardener. She loved having flowers in the yard, raised
strawberries and a large garden. She was particularly good at tending her houseplants.
Petunias, iris, and sunflowers were some of her favorite flowers outside. She
made jelly, canned different garden vegetables and fruits which her family
enjoyed.&nbsp;Pickles
of several varieties were a specialty. The kids and grandkids knew her to be
the&nbsp;cream
pie queen—requesting her chocolate and coconut cream pies often. Browniesand
cool whip were favorites as well. Her mashed potatoes were always the
creamiest. She
played piano and loved singing all her life. She married John Pierson in 1975. Going
with him in the semi-truck she saw parts of the country she had not seen previously.Ila
was employed in different places over the years: working at Sheridan County Hospital,
cooking at several restaurants, caring for elderly in their homes, and just before
retiring managing the Quinter Senior Center where she was known for her dedication
and warm spirit. A member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church her unwavering faith
in Jesus Christ is the hallmark of her life as she battled life’s challenges.She
is survived by her children: Curtis Simon and wife Deb of Quinter, Kansas;
Melanie Cooper
and husband Kevin of Hoxie, Kansas; and David Simon and wife Leah of Princeville,
Hawaii. Her grandchildren are Stephen Simon (Sarah), Becky Bruna (Lance),
Jaime May (Steve), Jesse Cooper (Sydney), Justin Cooper (Lindsay), and Qing Xia Simon. She
is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Taylor Koch (Hunter), Madison
Bruna, Oliver
Simon, Autumn Simon, Derrick McMillan, Colton McMillan, Hannah McMillan, Tatum
Cooper, Micah Cooper, Kayden Cooper, and Kolby Cooper.She
was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hazel Richards; infant children Dwayna
and Danny Simon; brothers, Harold and Dean Richards; and sister Alta Gaede.A
funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:30 am at
Mount Pleasant

Ila M. (Richards) Simon, Pierson, age 90

Patricia Ann “Pat” Murphy, 94, Hays, died Monday, February
23, 2026 at Via Christi Village in Hays.

She was born July 30, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri the
daughter of George W. and Almira E. (Haberstock) Murphy.&nbsp; Pat began her education at St. Mary’s Grade
School and in 1949 she graduated from Gorham Rural High School and then
attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas for two years.&nbsp; She later transferred to Fort Hays State
University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1956
and her Master’s Degree in 1969.&nbsp; 

Her teaching career started in 1951 in a one room school
house 12 miles south of Walker, Kansas where she taught all eight grades to
twenty-one students.&nbsp; In addition to this
Ellis County School, Pat’s teaching career expanded to teaching 1st
and 2nd grades in Bunker Hill, Kansas, Salina, Kansas, Fort Morgan,
Colorado, and overseas for the United States Air Force.&nbsp; It was with the Air Force that she taught in
Goose Bay, Labrador; Tokyo, Japan; and Chambly, France.&nbsp; She finished her 31 years of teaching in Boulder
City, Nevada, retiring in 1985.

Pat was busy as ever in retirement as she cared for her
aging parents, and often visited Brookdale Assisted Living to pray the rosary
with Catholic residents.&nbsp; She volunteered
at Old Fort Hays for 26 years and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church and served on the parish council, was eucharistic minister, and
taught CCD in Gorham, Boulder City, and overseas.&nbsp; Pat enjoyed traveling and painting pictures
for her family, friends, and neighbors.&nbsp; 

Survivors include three brothers, Bill Murphy and John
Murphy (Judy) of Gorham and Tom Murphy (Josephine) of Russell, Kansas and
numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was
preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Janice Murphy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday,
March 2, 2026 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Nick Parker
officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St.
Mary Cemetery in Gorham.&nbsp; Visitation will

Patricia Ann 'Pat' Murphy, 94

Richard "Rich” Herman Wahl, 76, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Kansas, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 12, 2026, after a brief illness. Richard was born in Clay Center, Kansas and grew up on a farm near Riley, Kansas. His love of farming was cemented early as he drove his first tractor around the age of 8. He attended Riley County High School, where he met his wife, Linda. Richard and Linda were married in 1968 and blessed with two children, Jillene (“Jill”) and &nbsp;Richard Alan. He obtained an Agricultural Economics degree from Kansas State University and went to work on the Wahl family farm.

In 1985, he and Linda moved to Colby, KS ,where Richard started work with Kansas Farm Management Association, an extension of Kansas State University. He enjoyed helping farmers prepare and plan with the changing agricultural environment. After several years in Colby, they moved to WaKeeney, KS, bought a homestead, and started Farm Business Services (FBS) to help farmers with their taxes and business strategy.

All the while, Richard kept a hand in farming. He truly enjoyed driving tractors, working in the field, and looking at the larger agriculture picture. His daughter used to say he had dirt in his veins. Richard also liked to experiment with projects that were sometimes out of the box, like elderberry farms and miniature cattle. Several years ago, Richard and Linda moved to Greenville, South Carolina, to be closer to their daughter and granddaughters.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Galen and Norma Wahl and brother Robert. 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Linda, son Richard Alan Wahl (both of Greenville, SC), and daughter Jillene Van Hoy (husband Tom), and granddaughters Jackie and Jayme Van Hoy, all of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by brothers Ralph Wahl (wife Debbie) and Ross Wahl (wife Melissa) all of Riley, KS.

Richard 'Rich' Herman Wahl, 76

Kristina Ann Billinger, 69, passed away peacefully in her
sleep on February 14, 2026, at her beloved Alaska cabin.

She left this world the way she lived in it — quietly,
independently, and on her own terms. The morning after she passed, the snow
fell gently with the wind perfectly still — just the kind of peaceful Alaskan
moment she loved most.

Kristina was caring, strong, and hardworking. Loyal to the
core. She showed her love through action — in the way she celebrated every
occasion, found happiness in the little things, and stood by the people she
loved. She was independent to the very end and stubborn in the most honest way,
determined to handle life herself.

Over the years, she made her home in Texas, Nebraska,
Kansas, and Alaska, building friendships in every state. She had friends all
over the country — a testament to her loyalty and her ability to win people
over wherever she went.

She loved decorating for the holidays — and not just a
little. Lights, decorations, the full display. She handmade decorations that
put store-bought ones to shame. Shopping endlessly for crafts and holiday décor
was her favorite way to spend time with friends. Every season and holiday, she
turned her cozy cabin into something magical. It was the most beautifully
decorated home in the state of Alaska.

She surrounded her little oasis with bleeding hearts,
dahlias, ferns, roses, tulips, pansies, lupine, and every other plant she could
get to grow. She was what made it feel like home.

Some of the best memories shared with her were simple
evenings around the campfire — talking, laughing, and just being together. Rain
or shine, she wanted to be enjoying the mountain views around the fire with her
family.

She is survived by her sons, Justin (Anna) Ward and Matt
Ward; her grandson, Mason Ward; and many friends across the country who will
remember her as the person who made life beautiful.

In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated.

A small family gathering will take place in Alaska. Details
will be shared with family and friends.

She will be remembered when the flowers are in full bloom,
gently swaying in the summer breeze. We will feel her presence as summer’s
colors fade into autumn’s warmth, and in the quiet moments when leaves let go
and fall. She will be remembered every time the snow falls softly and the world
feels still — just the way she loved it.

Joseph
“Joe” Gerald Hageman, 34, passed away on February 22, 2026, at his home in
Zurich, Kansas surrounded by his family and cat, Nermal. 

Joe
was born on September 8, 1991, in Hays, Kansas to Gerald “Jerry” and Nancy
(Benoit) Hageman. He grew up in Plainville, Kansas, and graduated from
Plainville High School in 2010. On September 20, 2014, he married Rebecca
Heroneme on their family farm in Zurich, beginning a life centered on faith,
family, and hard work.

Joe
was employed as a Lead Draftsman and 3D Print Specialist at Wellhead Systems in
Hill City, Kansas. He took great pride in his career, earning his CDL and
completing coursework in computer drafting. Joe loved what he did and was known
for his dedication, skill, and innovative spirit.

Above
all, Joe cherished his family, especially his role as a father. He found his
greatest joy in being “Dad” to Holton Joseph and Joselyn LeeAnn. He loved his
car and took great pride in it, along with tinkering on projects and working
around the farm. A strong supporter of his community, Joe contributed to
organizations that assist children with autism as well as local fire
departments and law enforcement. He proudly served as a volunteer firefighter
with the Palco Fire Department, embodying his commitment to helping others. Joe
will be remembered for his generous heart, steady work ethic, quick smile, and
the deep love he had for his family and community.

Joe is
survived by his parents, Jerry and Nancy Hageman of Plainville; his loving
wife, Rebecca Hageman and his children, Holton Joseph and Joselyn LeeAnn
Hageman, all of the home in Zurich. He is also survived by his sisters, Amber
Hageman and her son Charlie of Plainville, and Heather Hageman and her son
Braydon of Hays, Kansas.

He was
preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Helen (Giebler)
Hageman; his maternal grandmother, Annette (Brin) Benoit; his maternal uncle,
Joseph “Joe” Benoit; and his aunt, Peggy Diane Benoit.

A
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 28,
2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. The

Joseph 'Joe' Gerald Hageman, 34

Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Freitag, age
81, of Vincent, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February
17, 2026. He was born on October 16, 1944, in Hays, Kansas, to Lawrence “Pete”
and Alice (Schmidt) Freitag, the first of three children. 

He graduated from Hays High School in 1962 and married the love of his life,
Carol (Schumacher), on July 27, 1964, in Munjor, Kansas.

Jerry was a working man through and through. He had a lifelong passion
for horses and cars, raising some
truly talented horses and taking pride in the craftsmanship and care he poured
into everything he touched. Jerry was gifted in ways that can’t be taught and
spent countless hours as a mechanic and machinist making sure his family always
had what they needed. He could fix anything made of metal, anything with a
motor, and was also skilled in the kitchen. There was very little he couldn’t
repair, including his pride and joy: a fully restored 1956 Pink Cadillac.

Jerry worked on a custom cutting crew throughout junior high and high school,
gaining the early hands-on experience that would shape the rest of his life. He
spent time with the local John Deere dealership before moving into the oilfield,
and eventually joined his uncle as co-owner of Howard &amp; Jerry’s Service
Center (Mobil, Vickers, and Sinclair) just off I70 and 8th and Vine in Hays. In
the early 1990s, he worked for another uncle and eventually managed Farley’s
Machine Shop in Russell, KS, until his semi retirement.

In their younger years, Jerry and Carol could often be found at a polka dance
or leading a wedding march, always ready to join in the fun. In his later
years, Jerry found great enjoyment in helping several local car dealerships by
picking up and transporting vehicles. It gave him the chance to get behind the
wheel of the newest models, a small but meaningful pleasure for someone who had
spent a lifetime working with vehicles. He was able to stay connected to the
world he loved, lending a hand wherever he could until the house fire in 2021,
brought that chapter to a close. 

As time went on and his body began to slow, he found comfort in simpler
pleasures like watching The Cowboy Channel, keeping up with the world he loved,
and, of course, pestering his wife in the way only he could. He was a member of
Saint Boniface Catholic Church and Munjor Knights of Columbus.

With his wife of 61 years, Jerry raised four very independent children: Kevin

81, of Vincent, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February
17, 2026. He was born on October 16, 1944, in Hays, Kansas, to Lawrence “Pete”
and Alice (Schmidt) Freitag, the first of three children. He graduated from Hays High School in 1962 and married the love of his life,
Carol (Schumacher), on July 27, 1964, in Munjor, Kansas.Jerry was a working man through and through. He had a lifelong passion
for horses and cars, raising some
truly talented horses and taking pride in the craftsmanship and care he poured
into everything he touched. Jerry was gifted in ways that can’t be taught and
spent countless hours as a mechanic and machinist making sure his family always
had what they needed. He could fix anything made of metal, anything with a
motor, and was also skilled in the kitchen. There was very little he couldn’t
repair, including his pride and joy: a fully restored 1956 Pink Cadillac.Jerry worked on a custom cutting crew throughout junior high and high school,
gaining the early hands-on experience that would shape the rest of his life. He
spent time with the local John Deere dealership before moving into the oilfield,
and eventually joined his uncle as co-owner of Howard &amp; Jerry’s Service
Center (Mobil, Vickers, and Sinclair) just off I70 and 8th and Vine in Hays. In
the early 1990s, he worked for another uncle and eventually managed Farley’s
Machine Shop in Russell, KS, until his semi retirement.In their younger years, Jerry and Carol could often be found at a polka dance
or leading a wedding march, always ready to join in the fun. In his later
years, Jerry found great enjoyment in helping several local car dealerships by
picking up and transporting vehicles. It gave him the chance to get behind the
wheel of the newest models, a small but meaningful pleasure for someone who had
spent a lifetime working with vehicles. He was able to stay connected to the
world he loved, lending a hand wherever he could until the house fire in 2021,
brought that chapter to a close. As time went on and his body began to slow, he found comfort in simpler
pleasures like watching The Cowboy Channel, keeping up with the world he loved,
and, of course, pestering his wife in the way only he could. He was a member of
Saint Boniface Catholic Church and Munjor Knights of Columbus.With his wife of 61 years, Jerry raised four very independent children: Kevin
Freitag (Shelly) of Glendale, AZ; Kelly Forell (Guy) of Victoria, KS; Kim
Dreiling (Ted Wilkens) of Shawnee, KS; and Krista Freitag (Keith Young) of Glendora,

Jacob
“Jake” Joseph Befort, age 66, of Bison, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February
17, 2026, at Rush County Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 9, 1959,
in Hays, Kansas to Earl J. and Mary Ann (Gabel) Befort.



On July 30, 1994, he was united in marriage to Mitzi Jean (Roesti). Together
they built a life centered on family, education, and community.



Jake graduated from Thomas More Prep-Marian in 1977 and continued his education
at Marymount College, earning his bachelor’s degree. He later received his
master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.



Being an educator and coach was not just Jake’s profession—it was his calling.
He began his teaching career in Rexford, Kansas, and went on to serve in
several rural Kansas schools before ultimately achieving his dream of returning
to his beloved alma mater, Thomas More Prep-Marian.



Mr. Befort taught high school math at TMP-Marian from 2013 until 2024. He also
coached girls’ golf from 2015 to 2019 and led Math Relays from 2014 to 2024.
Jake was known for his dedication to his students—always available before and
after school to tutor and encourage them. He understood that math could be
challenging, but he never allowed students to settle for less than their best.
He firmly believed that with hard work, every student was capable of success,
and he was willing to put in just as much effort as they did. Over the course
of his 43-year career, Jake impacted countless students through his humor,
empathy, high standards, and unwavering support.



He took great pride in teaching at his alma mater and remained a loyal
supporter of TMP-Marian activities and athletics. Outside the classroom, Jake
enjoyed running, playing golf, attending sporting events, and most especially
cheering on his grandchildren at their activities.



Jake’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Mitzi of
Bison; his son, Ryan Befort and wife Sarah of Holton, Kansas, and their son,
Liam; his daughter, Amy Davidson and husband Michael of Russell, Kansas, and
their daughter, Gemma; and his brother, Lyle Befort and wife Linda of Sublette,
Kansas.



He was preceded in death by his parents.



Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at
Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, Kansas. Inurnment will
follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Munjor, Kansas.

Janice D. (Newell) Napell, age 77, of Hays, Kansas, passed away
Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, surrounded
by family and a wonderful medical team. She was born January 9, 1949, in
Stockton, Kansas, to Oliver and Velma (Manny) Newell, being 1 of 7 children.

On October 26, 1974, she was united in marriage to Donald (Nipple)
Napell in Damar, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 19, 2020.

Janice graduated from Palco High School in 1968. She held many
jobs over the years, most of the time holding more than 1 job at a time. She
retired from FHSU at the age of 71 in January of 2020. Janice was everyone’s
favorite, from the grandkids, siblings, nieces, nephews and extended family
that goes far beyond blood. As important as her faith was to her she lived for
her 4 grandchildren and never missed an event. In the days leading up to her
husband and Heavenly Father calling her home, she was surrounded by family,
celebrating her sisters 80th birthday just days before, in which her oldest
grandson drove her to Salina and back, taking the 3 younger grandchildren
bowling and to the park showering them all with love and the remembrance of who
she was. Her family was the center of her joy and happiness. Janice was very
out going, out spoken and never knew a stranger, as she would talk to or strike
up a conversation with anyone, and if you were her friend, you quickly became
part of her family. Even after her passing, Janice, being the loving and giving
person she has always been, continued her gifting by offering life after death
by her wishes carried out of being an organ donor. Her love, warmth, kindness,
generous and genuine spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Adam (Nicole) Napell of Hays, and
beloved grandchildren, Callum, Camden, Liam and Jamison; her brothers, Wayne
Newell of Hays, Allen Newell of Stilwell, Kansas, and Roger (Kim) Newell of
Salina; her sisters, Joan Peterson of Salina and Cinta Foster of Louisiana; and
her goddaughters, Vivian and Gabriella Aubel, daughters of Jim and Mara Aubel,
along with numerous nieces, nephews and greats.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, Oliver
and Velma Newell; her brother, Loren Newell and dear family friend Jean Gruse.

Janice D. (Newell) Napell, age 77

Peter
Frederick "Pete" Felten Jr., age 92, of Hays, Kansas passed away
Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at HaysMed. He was born April 14, 1933, in Hays,
Kansas to Peter F. Sr and Mabel (Robinson) Felten. 

Among the many cultural icons of Western Kansas, few, if any, have received
more regional attention and notoriety than Pete Felten.
After graduating from Hays High and serving four years in the U.S. Navy, Felten
attended Fort Hays State University but left in 1957 to pursue sculpting
full-time for a career that spanned nearly 70 years. Though primarily
self-taught, he briefly attended an art league school in New York and
researched widely in his field.


Regional and national interest in his work &amp; its place in Kansas history
spawned articles in newspapers, cultural &amp; tourism publications, online
blogs, and video documentaries. Most importantly, his limestone sculptures
themselves are what stand as testaments to history, culture, &amp; identity in
city squares, historic sites, parks, hospital gardens, and at the entrances of
churches, schools &amp; libraries across the state.
His first large, commissioned piece, created in 1961, was a bust of Buffalo
Bill Cody, that continues to stand in front of the Hays Public Library.
However, his most prominent sculptures are the four eight-foot tall,
approximately 2,000-pound limestone portraits of Amelia Earhart, William Allen
White, Arthur Capper, and Dwight Eisenhower that encircle the Kansas Capitol
rotunda. Selected through a competitive process, the nearly three-year project
began with the delivery of massive blocks of Silverdale limestone from
southeastern Kansas in 1979 and culminated with installation of the sculptures
in July 1981.


Other notable Felten sculptures include his monumental “Monarch of the Plains”
buffalo sculpture on the grounds of the Fort Hays Historic Site. Standing 8
feet high and 10 feet long on an 8-foot base, it began with a 24-ton stone and
was completed for the Hays Centennial celebration in 1967. Ellis County alone
features nearly 30 public Felten sculptures. Hundreds of other works are in
public and private collections throughout Kansas and beyond.


In April 2023, the Kansas House of Representatives honored Felten with a
resolution in honor of his 90th birthday and acknowledging his many public
sculptures throughout the state and in the capitol itself. In 2024, bronze
plaques were finally added next to his capitol sculptures to credit him for his
"Four Famous Kansans" rotunda portraits. In recognition of “a
lifetime of long-standing, significant impact on the arts in Kansas,” Felten
received the Governor’s “Arts Legacy Award” presented by the Kansas Arts
Commission on February 2 at a ceremony in Topeka.


Pete is survived by his extended family, Niece, Karen Munsch and husband Bob of
Schoenchen and their children, Robert (Kenya), Alex (Cheyenne) Munsch,
Schoenchen, Patricia (Matt) Adornetto, Solon, Ohio; a Grandniece Tina (Jeff)
Crispin, Hays, Grandnephew Chris (Jamie) Stegman of Wamego, Kansas, numerous
Greatgrand nephews/nieces and special friends, Bruce Burkholder, Mick Jilig of
Hays as well as many other friends and fellow artists.


He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Patricia (Felten) Ward; his
brother In-law Joe Ward; niece Terry Stegman and nephew Joe Ward Jr.

Frederick "Pete" Felten Jr., age 92, of Hays, Kansas passed away
Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at HaysMed. He was born April 14, 1933, in Hays,
Kansas to Peter F. Sr and Mabel (Robinson) Felten. Among the many cultural icons of Western Kansas, few, if any, have received
more regional attention and notoriety than Pete Felten.
After graduating from Hays High and serving four years in the U.S. Navy, Felten
attended Fort Hays State University but left in 1957 to pursue sculpting
full-time for a career that spanned nearly 70 years. Though primarily
self-taught, he briefly attended an art league school in New York and
researched widely in his field.
Regional and national interest in his work &amp; its place in Kansas history
spawned articles in newspapers, cultural &amp; tourism publications, online
blogs, and video documentaries. Most importantly, his limestone sculptures
themselves are what stand as testaments to history, culture, &amp; identity in
city squares, historic sites, parks, hospital gardens, and at the entrances of
churches, schools &amp; libraries across the state.
His first large, commissioned piece, created in 1961, was a bust of Buffalo
Bill Cody, that continues to stand in front of the Hays Public Library.
However, his most prominent sculptures are the four eight-foot tall,
approximately 2,000-pound limestone portraits of Amelia Earhart, William Allen
White, Arthur Capper, and Dwight Eisenhower that encircle the Kansas Capitol
rotunda. Selected through a competitive process, the nearly three-year project
began with the delivery of massive blocks of Silverdale limestone from
southeastern Kansas in 1979 and culminated with installation of the sculptures
in July 1981.
Other notable Felten sculptures include his monumental “Monarch of the Plains”
buffalo sculpture on the grounds of the Fort Hays Historic Site. Standing 8
feet high and 10 feet long on an 8-foot base, it began with a 24-ton stone and
was completed for the Hays Centennial celebration in 1967. Ellis County alone
features nearly 30 public Felten sculptures. Hundreds of other works are in
public and private collections throughout Kansas and beyond.
In April 2023, the Kansas House of Representatives honored Felten with a
resolution in honor of his 90th birthday and acknowledging his many public
sculptures throughout the state and in the capitol itself. In 2024, bronze
plaques were finally added next to his capitol sculptures to credit him for his
"Four Famous Kansans" rotunda portraits. In recognition of “a
lifetime of long-standing, significant impact on the arts in Kansas,” Felten
received the Governor’s “Arts Legacy Award” presented by the Kansas Arts
Commission on February 2 at a ceremony in Topeka.
Pete is survived by his extended family, Niece, Karen Munsch and husband Bob of
Schoenchen and their children, Robert (Kenya), Alex (Cheyenne) Munsch,
Schoenchen, Patricia (Matt) Adornetto, Solon, Ohio; a Grandniece Tina (Jeff)
Crispin, Hays, Grandnephew Chris (Jamie) Stegman of Wamego, Kansas, numerous
Greatgrand nephews/nieces and special friends, Bruce Burkholder, Mick Jilig of
Hays as well as many other friends and fellow artists.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Patricia (Felten) Ward; his

Leona “Lee” Kuhn, 92, passed away
February 20, 2026, at Via Christi Village, Hays, Kan.&nbsp; She was born April 10, 1933, in Victoria,
Kan., to Joseph C. and Catherine (Paul) Weigel.&nbsp;
Lee married Clinton Herman Kuhn May 3, 1954, in Victoria.&nbsp; Clinton passed away Oct. 13, 2017.

Lee, a
resident of Great Bend since 1954 coming from Victoria, had been a faithful
sales employee for J.C. Penney for over 20 years, retiring in April, 1998.&nbsp; Prior to her employment at J.C. Penney's, she
served lunch at Great Bend High School.&nbsp;
Lee was a member of Prince of Peace at St. Rose, Altar Society, American
Legion Post 180 Auxiliary and V.F.W. Post 3111 Auxiliary.&nbsp; She was an avid reader, enjoyed word puzzles,
and was a devoted sports fan, especially the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City
Chiefs.&nbsp; Above all, she cherished time
spent with family.&nbsp; 

Survivors
include four sons, Jed Kuhn and his wife Paula of Great Bend, Brad Kuhn and his
wife Janet of Great Bend, Craig Kuhn of Kansas City, Mo., and Doug Kuhn of
Great Bend; seven grandchildren, Gabriel Hardman and his wife Lana, Jacob
Hardman and his wife Randi, Phillip Kuhn, Andrew Kuhn, Chris Kuhn and his wife
DeAnn, Brendan Kuhn and his wife Kayla and Manion Kuhn; eight
great-grandchildren; Lainey Hardman, Landon Hardman, Aiden Hardman, Casen
Hardman, Taylor Hardman, Hailee Kuhn, Cayden Kuhn, Kennedy Kuhn, and Lincoln
Kuhn; one brother, Anthony Weigel and his wife Jan of Overland Park, Kan., two
sisters, Velma Giebler of Hays and Doris Weigel of Victoria; and many nieces
and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;

She was
preceded in passing, by her husband Clint; four brothers, Michael Weigel,
Donald Weigel, Robert Weigel and Joseph Weigel; three sisters, Mary Jane
Miller, Louise Weigel and Shirley Weigel; two brother-in -laws, Francis Giebler
and Gilbert Miller; two sister-in-laws, Beverly Weigel and Flora Weigel; &nbsp;and her son, Doug’s, companion and best friend,
Konny Trinka.

She is also survived by Konny Trinka’s children; Brandon
Ritchie and his wife Jill, Brooke Harting, Blake Ritchie and his companion Shay
Nesby and Bailey Godwin-Ritchie and her husband Tobias; and her grandchildren;
Ayla Ritchie, Adley Ritchie, Aftyn Ritchie, Rylan Harting and Tucker Gill.

Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at St. Rose of

Leona 'Lee' Kuhn, 92

Randy
Dee Cline, 70, of Luray, Kansas, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 7,
2026 at his home.

Randy
was born May 18, 1955 in Ransom, Kansas.&nbsp;
He was one of four children born to John, Jr. and Emma Arlene (Coker)
Cline.&nbsp; He grew up in Beeler, Kansas,
Ness City, Kansas, and then when he was in the eighth grade his family moved to
WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a Class of 1973
graduate of Trego Community High School.&nbsp;


Randy
served his country in the US Army from 1973 to 1979.&nbsp; He spent fourteen months in Korea as a mechanic.&nbsp; After his tour of duty, Randy and his family
returned to WaKeeney.

Randy
was united in marriage to Sandra Wagoner on August 8, 1974 at Ft. Hood,
Texas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three
children: Andrew, Brandon and Candance.&nbsp;
After leaving the military, they made their home in Ness City before
returning to WaKeeney.

Randy
was a welder most of his life.&nbsp; He worked
in the oil fields off and on for many years.&nbsp;
He also worked at Land Pride and Lake Wilson Marina.&nbsp; He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing,
tying lures, camping and boating.&nbsp; He
enjoyed painting windowsills.&nbsp; The main
spark in his eyeS was his grandchildren.

Randy’s
surviving family include his wife of 51 years, Sandra of the home; son, Andrew
Cline (Caralee) of Plainville, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Tammy Cline of Luray,
Kansas; daughter, Candance Jewert (Jason) of Hudson, Colorado; brother, Daniel
Cline (Cynthia) of WaKeeney, Kansas; and six grandchildren.

Randy
was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brandon Cline; brother, John Allen
Cline; and sister, Linda Cline.

Celebration
of Randy’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 26, 2026 at

Randy Dee Cline, 70

Kellie Dillon Leiker, age 64 of Hays, KS passed away at KU Medical center October 26th, 2025 with her family by her side.

Kellie
was born July 11, 1961 to Sharron Dillon and the late Loren E Dillon in Hays,
Ks. During her younger years her&nbsp;fathers work with&nbsp;Halliburton took
the family overseas where she had great experiences living in Kuwait,&nbsp;Saudi
Arabia, Singapore and traveled to Europe, the Far East and Hawaii. &nbsp;

In
middle school the family relocated back to the United States residing in
Gillette and Casper, Wyoming then returning to their hometown of Hays after
Kellie graduated from Kelly Walsh&nbsp;High School in 1979. &nbsp;

Kellie
worked as an oil field secretary for Great Guns and ELI where she still
remained friends with many of her coworkers. &nbsp;She also earned her Nail
Technician&nbsp;license holding her Cosmetology Senior Status&nbsp;License when
she passed away.&nbsp;

In
April of 1983 Kellie married Larry Dean Leiker, of Hays. They built their life
on Leiker family land&nbsp;enjoying having property so they could raise their
own beef and chickens. Kellie loved the many trips she and Larry took on the
Harley going to Sturgis. Kellie also loved beach trips with her mother, sister
&amp; aunt.

Kellie
is survived by her loving husband Larry of 42 years; son Bradley (Ashley)
Leiker;&nbsp;daughter
BreAnne (Freddy) Kruger; 2 granddaughters Kimber and Everly Leiker; 2 grandsons
Conner and Brayden Kruger. &nbsp;Mother, Sharron Dillon and sister Kimberly
(Glenn) Loibl. Niece, Brandi Wise; nephews Brandt (Stephanie) Wise and Jeff (the late Katherine) Leiker. Brothers in Law; Ron Leiker (Lori) and Mark (Carla) Leiker. 3 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews.

Kellie
was known for her beautiful smile and her warm, kind heart and&nbsp;will always
be loved and cherished by all of her family and friends.

Kellie Dillon Leiker

Marcia Ann Stanton, age 82, of Lenora, Kansas,
passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026,&nbsp; at
Hays Medical Center.

She was born May 6, 1943, in Norton, Kansas, to Leland Lester and Thelma Pearl
(Stamey)&nbsp;Dwinell.&nbsp;
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stanton.

She grew up in Norton and was a graduate of Hill City High School.&nbsp; While
living in Grand Island, Nebraska, Marcia and Harold managed a large apartment
and townhouse complex for 15 years. She worked at the Lou John’s Clothing Store
in Norton, was a CNA at the Andbe Home and was the Director of the Norton
Senior Center for several years. Marcia and her significant other, Bruce
“Buddy” Bivens have lived in Lenora for the last 19 years.

Marcia is survived by, Bruce “Buddy” Bivens, Lenora, KS; her son, Jon Stanton
and Tina, Norton, KS; her step daughters, Rubby Witt and Robby Vidor, TX;
Shelley Granger, Orange, TX; Amber morgan and Kevin, Orange, TX; her sister, Carla
Collins, Norton, KS; her grandchildren, Akazzia Holman; Brandon Stanton; Kara
Stanton; her 9 step-grandchildren, including Lynette Morris and Chase; Matthiew
Frakes and Stevinne; and her 9 great grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Thelma Dwinell; and her
husband, Harold Stanton.

Cremation has been chosen by her family, and a Celebration of Life Service will
be held at a later date.

 </figure>Marcia Ann Stanton, age 82, of Lenora, Kansas,
passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026,&nbsp; at
Hays Medical Center.She was born May 6, 1943, in Norton, Kansas, to Leland Lester and Thelma Pearl
(Stamey)&nbsp;Dwinell.&nbsp;
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stanton.She grew up in Norton and was a graduate of Hill City High School.&nbsp; While
living in Grand Island, Nebraska, Marcia and Harold managed a large apartment
and townhouse complex for 15 years. She worked at the Lou John’s Clothing Store
in Norton, was a CNA at the Andbe Home and was the Director of the Norton
Senior Center for several years. Marcia and her significant other, Bruce
“Buddy” Bivens have lived in Lenora for the last 19 years.Marcia is survived by, Bruce “Buddy” Bivens, Lenora, KS; her son, Jon Stanton
and Tina, Norton, KS; her step daughters, Rubby Witt and Robby Vidor, TX;
Shelley Granger, Orange, TX; Amber morgan and Kevin, Orange, TX; her sister, Carla
Collins, Norton, KS; her grandchildren, Akazzia Holman; Brandon Stanton; Kara
Stanton; her 9 step-grandchildren, including Lynette Morris and Chase; Matthiew
Frakes and Stevinne; and her 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Thelma Dwinell; and her
husband, Harold Stanton.Cremation has been chosen by her family, and a Celebration of Life Service will
be held at a later date.Services are entrusted to

Sherrill (Sherry) Elizabeth
Letsch, 76, died on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at the Harry Hynes Memorial
Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Sherry was born on July 20, 1949,
with her beloved twin Judy, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Don L. and
Isabel [Duvall] Letsch. She grew up in Bunker Hill, Kansas where she attended
school through her sophomore year then transferred and graduated from Russell
High School. After high school she studied at Fort Hays State University
graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. Later she moved to
Wichita, Kansas and worked for many years as a Quality Assurance Director for
both Boeing and Spirit Aero Systems production lines. Her work related mostly
to passenger jets but a highlight included working on the delivery of the new
generation Air Force One jet during her tenure. 

Devoted in her Christian faith,
Sherry was a longtime member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Wichita as well as
a member of the Monday Night Bible Study Ladies group. Both the Sunnyside
congregation at large and MNBSL in particular showed immense love and enduring
support during her long battle. During this nearly decade-long journey she also
became like family amongst both the Kansas Cancer Center and Victory in the
Valley cancer treatment center and support groups, where she was often called
upon to visit and council new cancer patients by answering questions, offering
support and giving encouragement—sharing with them her own cancer journey and
deeply held faith. Her unwavering and positive outlook and refusal to be
defined by cancer were an inspiration and source of hope for many.

and contributor to the arts. She particularly loved painting and artists and
had a deep knowledge of the history of the art form. When she traveled, she
loved finding local art museums, galleries and exhibits, always wanting to
enjoy and learn more about the arts. Surviving family include her
sister, Donna Letsch of Lawrence, Kansas; nephew Wade Echer and wife Camille
and their children Lena and Jack all of Trumbull, Connecticut; niece Renae
Satchell of Wichita, Kansas; niece Jessica Rockhold and husband John and their
children Amelia and Spencer of Lawrence, Kansas;&nbsp; niece Kendall Heiman and husband Jeff and
their children Greyson and Asher of Lawrence, Kansas and nephew Adam Irwin and
wife Jennifer and their son Calvin of Denver, Colorado.Sherry was preceded in death by
her parents, twin sister Judith Echer and sister Linda Letsch. Cremation has been selected by the
family.&nbsp;A memorial service to celebrate
Sherry’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday February 27, 2026, at
Sunnyside Baptist Church at 2618 W. Morris St. in Wichita, Kansas, with Pastor
Andy Titus officiating.Graveside services will be held at
10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in
Bunker Hill, Kansas with Pastor Ron Wedel officiating. A memorial has been
established with Victory In The Valley Cancer Support. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler
Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service
