Mae “Rose” Augustine age 94, of Hays, Kansas passed away on Thursday, March 5,
2026, at Hays Medical Center Hays, Kansas.

She was born on&nbsp; December 8, 1931, at Hays, Kansas to Joseph and Anna
Bertha (Lang) Rupp.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rose married Ralph Joseph Augustine Sr. on
October 4, 1949, at Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on January 6,
2004.&nbsp;

She was the office manager and bookkeeper for Ralph’s Electric for over 30
years, a member of Saint Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, and Saint Nicholas
of Myra Ladies Guild.&nbsp; Rose was chairman and cook for the Funeral Committee
at Saint Nicholas of Myra for over 20 years.

Rose retired in 2010, she always had a love for animals, especially her dogs
through the years, and
fed every stray cat and bird in the neighborhood.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking,
garage sales, yard work, gardening, bowling, playing cards, and keeping her
boys in line.&nbsp; She grew up in Hays, and was a 1949 graduate of Hays High
School.&nbsp; &nbsp;

She is survived by her children, Ralph Augustine Jr. and wife, Lois, Hays, KS;
Greg Augustine, Hays, KS; Bruce Augustine, Hays, KS; and Linda Jensen and
husband, Tom, Grand Island, NE; her grandchildren, Renee Schuckman (Ron); Ryan
Augustine (Rachel); Rachel Pattillo; Nathan Augustine (Suzanna); Bethany
Pfannenstiel (Tyler); and Jeremy Wann; her great grandchildren, Caira
Augustine; Veda Augustine; Eli Pfannenstiel; Reid Pfannenstiel; Rhett
Pfannenstiel; Carter Augustine; and Madison Augustine; her brother-in-law,
Robert Augustine, Hays, KS; and her sister-in-law, Betty Augustine, Hays, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Rupp; her husband,
Ralph Augustine Sr.; her daughter-in-law, Donna Augustine; her brothers, Ralph
Rupp; Earl Rupp; and Albert Rupp; her sisters, Regina Moore; Evelyn Karlin; and
Mary Ann Neely. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at
Saint Nicholas of Myra Catholic, 2901 East 13th Street, Hays, Kansas
with Celebrant, Father Damian Richards.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary
of Hays, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, at Saint Nicholas of Myra
Catholic Church.

Rosella Mae 'Rose' Augustine, age 94

Benedict Joseph Dreiling, 93, of Hill City, Kansas, died at his home in Hill City, surrounded by his family. He was born May 29, 1932, in Rural St. Peter, Kansas to Charles and Beatrice (Riedel) Dreiling. He was the sixth out of nine children. Growing up on the family farm with his siblings was a time filled with treasured memories. To add to the immediate family were cousins who lived on nearby farms. One can only imagine the mischief they could invent with all those kids. Not to mention any pranks, but if you knew them, you always remembered the grease guns!

As the kids got older, camping and lake trips were weekend getaways. For these adventures they always brought friends along. Ben was always good to stop by his mom’s house to check on her. On these stops he was always treated to his favorite meal of meatballs and red beer.

Ben met Norma Clark in the middle of a street in Hill City. She was the love of his life for 53 years. They were married October 13, 1956 in St. Peter. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Mindy, Sheryl, Kelly, and Mark.

Ben was an oil field contract pumper, however, many remember him as a tavern owner. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart Mary Church as well as a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Ben was a fireman for Hill City when the family home was destroyed by fire. They lost everything, but all the family was safe. Ben stayed with the department and served 25 years as the Fire Chief.

Ben enjoyed life and his free time. He preferred driving the back roads in Graham County, woodworking, specially building birdhouses and toys. Yard work was a project he truly enjoyed and made all the better when he won “Yard of the Month”. Friends were very important to the Dreilings. There were many an evening spent with their good friends Johnny and Sara Billinger. Dancing to polka music, along with lots of laughter filled those evenings. As the years moved on, babysitting grandkids became a welcome chore. Pheasant season was his favorite time of the year. The first weekend being the best. Every year Ben and his brother Elmer laughed about shooting a neighbor’s house and cow with the infamous grease guns. Their dad made sure they never forgot!

Left to mourn his passing are his daughters Mindy and husband Jon Schumacher of McPherson, Sheryl and husband Mark Fabricius of Hill City; his sons: Kelly and Michelle Dreiling of Hill City, Mark Dreiling of Hill City; one brother, Charles (Chuck) Dreiling of Buffalo Grove, Illinois; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; extended family relatives, and many friends. Preceding Ben in death were: his parents; his brothers: Len Dreiling, Elmer Dreiling, Fritz Dreiling; his sisters Helen Weidner, Armella Nordstrom, Ellie Horcher, Kathryn Raupp.

Visitation will be Monday, March 10, 2026 at Stinemetz Funeral Home, 522 N. Pomeroy, Hill City, Kansas, from 5 to 7 P.M. The family will be present from 5 -6. Benedict Joseph Dreiling, 93

Chad
Allen Schuster, age 47, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 28,
2026, at Clara Barton Medical Center in Hoisington, Kansas. He was born June
30, 1978, in Russell, Kansas, to Laverne and Barbara (Wiesner) Schuster.



Chad was the kind of person who put his whole heart into everything he
did—steady, hardworking, and always happiest when he was around people,
animals, and the everyday routines that made life feel full. He attended grade
school and high school in Russell until his junior year, then graduated from
Hays High School in 1997.



From a young age, Chad showed commitment and determination. He was a member of
Coronado Area Council Boy Scout Troop 118 and reached the rank of Life Scout.
He attended meetings regularly and enjoyed camps in Osborne and Kirwin, Kansas.
Chad earned 16 merit badges and was proud to receive his ADALTARE DEI Catholic
Boy Scout medal.



Chad also participated in the Kansas Special Olympics, where he earned 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place medals in basketball, track &amp; field, and bowling. One of
his favorite parts of the year was the Special Olympics banquet and
dance—especially the music. Chad was often right next to the DJ, picking out
the tunes and soaking up every minute of it. He was also a 3rd degree member of
the Knights of Columbus Council 3034.



More than anything, Chad loved animals—especially cows. Thursdays at the
Russell livestock sale barn were a highlight of his week, and he rarely missed
them. The owner at the time, Jay Sweeney, thought the world of Chad and invited
him to come out on Wednesdays to help count and sort cattle. On sale day, Chad
sat with Jay and the auctioneer, raising his hand to bid on the cows. On
Fridays, he helped clean the pens. Chad didn’t just enjoy the sale barn—he
belonged there. It was nothing for him to spend $40 on sale day at the
restaurant, visiting with friends and enjoying the day. He also attended the
yearly bull sale at Bar S Ranch in Paradise, Kansas. Chad knew just about
everyone, and everyone knew Chad—so much so that people would call if he wasn’t
at the sale on Thursday. When Jay Sweeney passed away and the Russell sale barn
closed, Chad deeply missed his three-day-a-week “fun job” (no pay), and the
days felt longer without it.



Chad worked part-time at Dollar General, helping unload trucks and stock
shelves under the supervision of DSNWK of Russell. For a brief time, he moved
to Great Bend and lived at Rosewood Services. Later, his younger brother, Brad
Schuster, moved to Galatia, Kansas, and Brad and Laura Schuster became his
full-time caregivers. Chad continued attending Rosewood Services during the
day, where he worked on the lawn crew and detailing car crew.



Chad had a big love for music, and Brad and Laura made sure he got to enjoy it.
They took him to see Sunset Sinners, Warrant, Pantera, and Lamb of God. He had
a great time at the concerts, and he also loved shopping—especially buying CDs
and jeans. Chad was a fan of Michael Jordan, and when he could get a pair of
his favorite shoes and watch him play basketball, he carried a proud smile that
said it all. And while Chad enjoyed his fun, he also knew the value of work. On
weekends, he helped Brad with his lawn mowing and wood cutting business and
took pride in his chores around the house.



Chad will be remembered for his sweet smile, infectious laugh, and the many
hugs he freely gave. He had a gift for making people feel noticed and welcomed,
and his presence brought warmth wherever he went.



Chad is survived by his mother, Barbara of Russell; his brother, Bradley
Schuster and wife Laura of Galatia, Kansas; his sister, Amanda Jackson of
Russell; nephews, Wyatt and Waylon Harmon and Stephaun Jackson; as well as
numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.



He was preceded in death by his father, Laverne, who passed away November 5,
2024.



Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, March 9, 2026 at the St. Mary Queen
of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St.
Mary's Cemetery in Ellis, Kansas at 2:00 PM.



A rosary service will be at 6:30 PM Sunday led by the Russell 3rd Degree
Knights of Columbus Council #3034 followed by a parish vigil service.



Visitation will be Sunday 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Monday 9:00 AM until service
time all at the church.


Memorial contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of the High Plains
or St. Mary's Cemetery Fund.

Chad Allen Schuster, age 47

Merle Jean Oelkers, 93, of rural McCracken, Kansas, passed away
peacefully on March 5, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Jean was born on September 6,
1932, to Francis and Merle Hardwick of Rush County. She lived in rural
McCracken most of her life, leaving only to attend York College in Nebraska. On
August 1, 1952, she married the love of her life, Erman Oelkers. Together they
worked on the family farm and raised two children, Galen and Shelley. Once her
children started school, Jean began working at Renberger’s Jewelry Store in La
Crosse, eventually going on to purchase the business.

Jean was a devoted Christian
woman and a faithful member of First Christian Church in La Crosse. She lived
out her faith through service, with her strength and compassion evident in her
volunteer efforts at many county events and activities. She could often be
found volunteering at A Second Chance, the Historical Society, or the Rush
County Fair. She also found great happiness in staying active and connected
through social committees such as Prairie Pals, ProArt, and the Walnut Valley
Senior Center, where she formed many meaningful friendships.

Her life was enriched by
numerous hobbies. In their younger years, Erman and Jean found joy in square
dancing and bowling together. Saturday nights were often spent enjoying card
parties with some of their closest friends. Jean had a deep love for music and
shared her gift of song by singing in the Cantata and the Sunday church choir,
always using her talents in worship of the Lord. She was an excellent
seamstress and an even better cook, especially known for making the very best
pancakes for her grandchildren and her wonderful pies.

She was preceded in death by
her parents, Francis and Merle Hardwick; her brother, Billy Hardwick; her
sister, Jo Ann Neidenthal; and her son-in-law, Dr. Robert “Bob” Keener.

Jean is survived by her
brother, Richard Hardwick; her children, Galen Oelkers and Dr. Shelley Oelkers;
her grandchildren, Dyan Axman (Tony), Caroline Oelkers, Virginia Oelkers, and
Lillian Oelkers; and her great-grandchildren, Raelyn and Rylie Axman.

Visitation will be held from
5:00–7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, at Janousek Funeral Home. The funeral
service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 9, at Janousek Funeral
Home. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to A Second
Chance, the Walnut Valley Senior Center, or a charity of your choice.

peacefully on March 5, 2026, surrounded by her family.Jean was born on September 6,
1932, to Francis and Merle Hardwick of Rush County. She lived in rural
McCracken most of her life, leaving only to attend York College in Nebraska. On
August 1, 1952, she married the love of her life, Erman Oelkers. Together they
worked on the family farm and raised two children, Galen and Shelley. Once her
children started school, Jean began working at Renberger’s Jewelry Store in La
Crosse, eventually going on to purchase the business.Jean was a devoted Christian
woman and a faithful member of First Christian Church in La Crosse. She lived
out her faith through service, with her strength and compassion evident in her
volunteer efforts at many county events and activities. She could often be
found volunteering at A Second Chance, the Historical Society, or the Rush
County Fair. She also found great happiness in staying active and connected
through social committees such as Prairie Pals, ProArt, and the Walnut Valley
Senior Center, where she formed many meaningful friendships.Her life was enriched by
numerous hobbies. In their younger years, Erman and Jean found joy in square
dancing and bowling together. Saturday nights were often spent enjoying card
parties with some of their closest friends. Jean had a deep love for music and
shared her gift of song by singing in the Cantata and the Sunday church choir,
always using her talents in worship of the Lord. She was an excellent
seamstress and an even better cook, especially known for making the very best
pancakes for her grandchildren and her wonderful pies.She was preceded in death by
her parents, Francis and Merle Hardwick; her brother, Billy Hardwick; her
sister, Jo Ann Neidenthal; and her son-in-law, Dr. Robert “Bob” Keener.Jean is survived by her
brother, Richard Hardwick; her children, Galen Oelkers and Dr. Shelley Oelkers;
her grandchildren, Dyan Axman (Tony), Caroline Oelkers, Virginia Oelkers, and
Lillian Oelkers; and her great-grandchildren, Raelyn and Rylie Axman.Visitation will be held from
5:00–7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, at Janousek Funeral Home. The funeral
service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 9, at Janousek Funeral
Home. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to A Second
Chance, the Walnut Valley Senior Center, or a charity of your choice.

Austin “Bill” Murphy, 84, of Waldo, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 4,
2026, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Bill
was born May 6, 1941 in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He
was one of five children born to L. Earl and E. Bernadine (Fiensy) Murphy.&nbsp; He grew up in the Covert, Kansas area and
graduated from Waldo High School in the Class of 59.

Bill
met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to C. Marlene Day on October 4,
1959 in Waldo.&nbsp; This union was blessed
with three children; Debbie, Rhonda and Brad.&nbsp;
They made their home in Salina, Kansas for a short time before moving to
Covert.&nbsp; Then a few years later, they
moved out into the country near Waldo.&nbsp;
Then in 2022 they moved into Waldo.

Bill
was a Farmer/Rancher his entire life and sold seed products for over ten
years.&nbsp; He also was very active as a
school bus driver for the local schools for many years, before retiring in
2019.&nbsp; When they lived in Salina, he
worked at a local service station.&nbsp; He
was a member and trustee of the Waldo United Methodist Church.&nbsp; He served on the High Plains Farm Credit
Board for 12 years, and did data collection for the National Weather Services
in Hastings, Nebraska for over 50 years. Bill was a life member of the
Waldo/Paradise Lions Club, he served on the Victor Township Board, was a Boy
Scout Leader when his son was in Boy Scouts.&nbsp;


Bill had a deep love for sports and rarely missed the chance to
cheer on his favorite teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City
Royals, and KU basketball. He especially enjoyed supporting the Natoma Tigers,
taking great pride in watching his children and grandchildren play. Farming and
ranching were more than just work to Bill—they were a way of life, and some of
his most cherished moments were spent working alongside his kids and grandkids.

Bill was known for the way he supported his friends and family
and for the joy he brought to those around him. He had a wonderful sense of
humor and a gift for storytelling. Many will remember the laughter shared while
listening to his stories about hunting coyotes, deer, and elk, and the way he
could always bring a smile to a room. His love for family, the land, and the
people in his life will be remembered by all who knew him.

Bill’s
surviving family include his wife of 66 years, Marlene of the home; daughters,
Debbie Murphy of Natoma, Kansas and Rhonda Murphy of Waldo, Kansas; son, Brad
Murphy (Jenjer) of Waldo, Kansas; sisters, Janice Lund of Waldo, Kansas and
Sandy Boldridge (Leon) of New River, Arizona;&nbsp;
five grandchildren, Jodi Wayland (Scott), Phillip Murphy (Taylor),
Austin Murphy, Jacob Murphy and MaKayla Murphy; and four great grandchildren,
Waylon Murphy, Wryatt Murphy, Wiley Murphy and Jemma Wayland.

Bill

Remigia “Midge”
Koerner, 97, Hays, passed away Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 at Hays Medical
Center.

She was born
April 28, 1928, in Hays, the daughter of Peter and Annastasia (Schaffer)
Schuvie. She graduated from Girls Catholic High in 1946. Immediately after
graduation, Midge started her career at Southwestern Bell (AT&amp;T) as a
switchboard operator and later worked in the Business Office before retirement.
After retirement, she kept busy helping her sisters, brothers, nieces and
nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews with whatever they needed
done.

Midge married
Vern Koerner on May 28th, 1957 in Hays. They shared 68 wonderful years of
marriage and welcomed their son, Kevin, in 1960. She lived in that same home
for over 66 years and always said she loved her home. She and Vern always loved
when family and friends would come over to visit. Many great Christmases were
held at their home.

She was a member
of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Hays VFW Post #9076 Auxiliary.
As a founding participant of the Adoration of Christ at its original 13th
Street location, she carried that spirit of worship with her throughout her
entire life.&nbsp; While her family was her
heart, her unwavering Catholic faith was her compass. She was a tireless
”prayer warrior”, perpetually adding names to her prayer list and finding
solace in her rosary and prayer books. To her family, she was a constant source
of spiritual strength who never hesitated to offer a prayer for those she
loved. Her greatest happiness remained her family, especially the time she
shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Midge is
survived by her son Kevin Koerner and wife Lynn of Hays. She will be dearly
missed by her grandchildren Shea Koerner and wife Anne Drees of Centennial,
Colorado and Annastasia Rose Koerner of Denver, Colorado: and her
great-granddaughter Cecilia Rose Bird of Denver, Colorado, along with many
nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded
in death by her husband Vernon, her parents Peter and Annastasia Schuvie, and

Gladys A. Standley, 85, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, February 27,
2026, at the Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas.

Gladys was born on February 24, 1941, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter
of Elmer E. and Minnie (Boxberger) Boxberger.&nbsp;
She grew up in Russell and graduated from Rusell High School.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Darrell Gene
Standley on June 26, 1960, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp;
From this union Gladys and Darrell were blessed with two sons Brian and
Brad.&nbsp; She was a loyal homemaker taking
care of her husband and sons, but also worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s
business, Central Machine Shop in Russell.&nbsp;
She was a lifelong active member of St. John Lutheran Church in
Russell.&nbsp; She enjoyed crocheting and will
be remember by her family as a woman who loved to shop until she dropped and
loved being stubborn.&nbsp; Most of all she
loved being with her family and being active in her grandchildren’s activities.

Surviving family include her sons Brian Standley (Rachelle) of Goodland,
Kansas and Brad Standley (Rosie) of Russell, Kansas; brothers Ronnie Boxberger
(Diana) and Donnie Boxberger (Carol) all of Russell, Kansas; 6 grandchildren
and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrell on November
14, 2007, and her sister Loretta Mentlich.

Gladys A. Standley, 85

Fenton Jerome “Jerry” Horton, age 90, of Hays, Kansas, passed away
Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Hays. He was born
March 18, 1935, in Salina, Kansas, to Forrest and Thelma (Traylor) Horton.

Jerry lived a life marked by kindness, service, and a curiosity
about the world around him. A devoted family man, he found his greatest joy in
the relationships he nurtured and the example he set for those he loved.

He graduated from Salina High School in 1953 and later graduated
from Washburn University in 1959 with a bachelor of arts degree in economics
where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta Law
Fraternity and Young Democrats. On September 9, 1956, Jerry married Dixie
(Patterson) in Salina. Together they built a loving home and shared more than
62 years of marriage before her passing on January 19, 2019.

Jerry devoted more than 40 years to State Farm, working as an
insurance adjuster before joining the agency’s disaster team prior to retiring.
His work ethic, compassion, and willingness to help others during times of
crisis defined his professional life. These qualities reflected his deep sense
of responsibility to both his family and community, and he modeled these values
for his children and future generations.

An active and adventurous spirit, Jerry embraced a wide range of
hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed woodworking, photography,
archaeological digs, volunteering at the Sternberg Museum, riding motorcycles,
birdwatching, camping, and traveling. He was an avid golfer and a competitive
target shooter with the Hays City Sportsman Club, always appreciating both the
challenge and camaraderie these activities provided.

Service to others was central to Jerry’s life. He was a Boy Scout
leader, a member of the Optimist Club, and a faithful member of the First
Presbyterian Church, where he served in several capacities as a church elder
and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. His kindness extended to all living
creatures. Throughout his life, he provided a loving home for numerous pets,
demonstrating the gentle and caring nature that touched everyone who knew him.
He also served on the boards of the Humane Society of the High Plains and the
Community Assistance Center and volunteered with the American Red Cross.
Jerry’s patriotism was evident early in life when he enlisted in the National
Guard at the age of 14—an act that required a letter from his father because of
his young age and one that spoke to his early commitment to service.

Jerry is survived by his loving children: daughter Laura Kolb
(Kelvin) of Hays, son Frank Horton (Karla) of Nashville, Tennessee, daughter
Lisa Hendershott (Ronnie) of Hays, son David Horton (Chris) of Phoenix,
Arizona, and daughter Linda Street (Steve Froelich) of Gardner, Kansas; his
sister, Diantha Kerbs of Auburn, Washington; his grandchildren, Amy Horton of
Phoenix, Arizona, Caitlyn Hendershott (Timothy Reeves) of Lawrence, Kansas,

2026, with memorial visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time, all

Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Hays. He was born
March 18, 1935, in Salina, Kansas, to Forrest and Thelma (Traylor) Horton.Jerry lived a life marked by kindness, service, and a curiosity
about the world around him. A devoted family man, he found his greatest joy in
the relationships he nurtured and the example he set for those he loved.He graduated from Salina High School in 1953 and later graduated
from Washburn University in 1959 with a bachelor of arts degree in economics
where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta Law
Fraternity and Young Democrats. On September 9, 1956, Jerry married Dixie
(Patterson) in Salina. Together they built a loving home and shared more than
62 years of marriage before her passing on January 19, 2019.Jerry devoted more than 40 years to State Farm, working as an
insurance adjuster before joining the agency’s disaster team prior to retiring.
His work ethic, compassion, and willingness to help others during times of
crisis defined his professional life. These qualities reflected his deep sense
of responsibility to both his family and community, and he modeled these values
for his children and future generations.An active and adventurous spirit, Jerry embraced a wide range of
hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed woodworking, photography,
archaeological digs, volunteering at the Sternberg Museum, riding motorcycles,
birdwatching, camping, and traveling. He was an avid golfer and a competitive
target shooter with the Hays City Sportsman Club, always appreciating both the
challenge and camaraderie these activities provided.Service to others was central to Jerry’s life. He was a Boy Scout
leader, a member of the Optimist Club, and a faithful member of the First
Presbyterian Church, where he served in several capacities as a church elder
and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. His kindness extended to all living
creatures. Throughout his life, he provided a loving home for numerous pets,
demonstrating the gentle and caring nature that touched everyone who knew him.
He also served on the boards of the Humane Society of the High Plains and the
Community Assistance Center and volunteered with the American Red Cross.
Jerry’s patriotism was evident early in life when he enlisted in the National
Guard at the age of 14—an act that required a letter from his father because of
his young age and one that spoke to his early commitment to service.Jerry is survived by his loving children: daughter Laura Kolb
(Kelvin) of Hays, son Frank Horton (Karla) of Nashville, Tennessee, daughter
Lisa Hendershott (Ronnie) of Hays, son David Horton (Chris) of Phoenix,

Fenton Jerome 'Jerry' Horton, age 90

Edmund “Edd” James McDonald, 47, of Park, Kansas, passed
away on February 21, 2026. He was born on January 12, 1979, in Dublin, Ireland,
the son of James and Geraldine (Murphy) McDonald.

Edd was raised in Ireland with strong faith, a love of
machinery, and a gift for storytelling that he carried proudly with him to
Kansas. He graduated from Salesian Agriculture School in Pallaskenry in 2000
with a degree in Agricultural Mechanics. Edd could fix just about anything with
an engine — and if he couldn’t, he’d figure it out.

On September 4, 2010, Edd was united in marriage to the love
of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Kay McDonald, at the Claremont Inn in Stratton,
Colorado. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, laughter, and
horsepower.

Early in his career, Edd worked in harvesting, as a diesel
mechanic at Bucklin Tractor (BTI), and as a truck driver. He later became a
foreman with Sporer Land Development, where he worked for 14 years. In 2013,
his career was cut short by a tragic accident that resulted in a traumatic
brain injury. What followed was a long and determined recovery in Colorado.
Through prayer, perseverance, and the unwavering support of family, friends,
and neighbors, Edd made his way back home — where he belonged.

Though short-term memory challenges prevented him from
returning to full-time work, Edd never stopped working in the ways that
mattered. With his beloved Kubota tractor, he mowed lawns, cleared snow, graded
driveways, and especially took pride in helping at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church. If there were millings to spread or a parking lot to smooth, Edd was
there — often before anyone else. Being useful brought him joy.

Edd was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Park, the Knights of Columbus, the Rodeo Club, the NRA, and Ducks Unlimited. As
a boy in Ireland, he was a proud Sea Scout — a title he never quite outgrew. He
enjoyed playing cards and games, watching CSI and crime dramas, history and
educational programs, and traveling whenever possible. Horses — especially
Clydesdales — held a special place in his heart.

Above all, Edd was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. He
was overjoyed at the thought of soon adopting his grandchildren and sharing
with them the McDonald name. His pride, love, and willingness to help others
defined him more than any job title ever could.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kay McDonald of Park;
his parents, Jim and Geraldine McDonald of Arklow, Ireland; his children, Bobbi-Ann
(Malachi) Lewis, Elissa Roberts, Evan Roberts, and Rose Roberts; his cherished
granddaughters, Ravin and Sabrina; his brothers, John (Cecelia) McDonald of
Arklow, Ireland, and Colum (Kristina) McDonald of Perth, Australia; his sister,

Edmund 'Edd' James McDonald, 47

Leroy F. Staab, age 89, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Thursday,
February 26, 2026, at HaysMed in Hays.

He was born September 5, 1936, in Hays to Edwin J. and Emma
(Kneiling) Staab. Leroy graduated in 1954 from St. Joseph Military Academy in
Hays. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving
his country honorably.

Leroy was united in marriage to Marilyn Pfannenstiel, and to this
union one son, Curt, was born. Though their marriage later ended in divorce,
Leroy remained devoted to his family throughout his life.

A lifelong learner with a deep passion for education, Leroy
attended Fort Hays State University before earning his Master of Business
Administration from the University of Kansas. His professional career led him
to Travenol Laboratories, where he played an integral role in the company’s
international expansion. As part of the operations team, he helped establish
and grow facilities in Ireland, Puerto Rico, Israel, and Japan.

Family was always at the heart of Leroy’s life. His grandchildren
brought him immense pride and joy, and he cherished the time spent with them.
Never one to sit idle, Leroy was also a dedicated steward of the land,
maintaining the family farm and ranch north of Hays — a place that kept him
active and fulfilled for many years.

A man of strong faith, Leroy was a member of Immaculate Heart of
Mary Catholic Church in Hays. After a long and successful career, he returned
to Hays in 2005 to be closer to his family.

He is survived by his son, Curt (Amy) Staab of Hays; and his
grandchildren, Hannah, Addison, and Caden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Emma Staab.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026, at
10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine Street, Hays,
Kansas 67601. Memorial Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 5:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a combined parish vigil and rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at

Leroy F. Staab, age 89

Louise
(Walburn) Younger, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026 in Hays, Kansas
surrounded by her family.

Louise was
born on November 21, 1938 to Pearl Lena Picking and William Dee Walburn. She
was the second daughter and had four younger brothers. Her family owned
Walburn’s Grocery on West 7th Street and she would often be seen standing on a
milk crate to work the cash register. Growing up, Louise was thin as a rail and
was endearingly called “Fatty Arbuckle” by friends. 

At age 14, as
a freshman at Hays High School, she met her future husband, Jug Younger. Jug
and Louise were married in Great Bend, Kansas on May 19th, 1957. They were
married for almost seven decades and lived in Hays for the entirety of their
marriage. 

Louise and
Jug welcomed five children together in the early years and also became foster
parents. While raising her children she began babysitting neighbors’ children,
which eventually turned into a licensed daycare. Though she was busy with
children, both her own and those she cared for, she always made time for
volunteer work. Some of that work included volunteering for the Hays First United
Methodist Church, Hays Medical Center, various elementary schools in Hays, and
as a mentor to college students attending Fort Hays State University. 

This daycare
she started while her children were young slowly morphed into a preschool. Wee
Friends Preschool was Louise’s other love, born from dreams, love, hard work,
sweat, some labor from Jug, and a desire to educate children at their most
vulnerable age. Not only was the preschool a place of learning for children
beginning their educational journey, but it was also where countless Fort Hays
State Education students began their own educational journey- just on the other
side. 

No matter
where Louise was, she was a teacher. This applied to her 11 grandchildren and
16 great grandchildren. Grandma was one of her favorite titles. As a
grandmother, Louise made dreams come true. Going to her house was magical for
kids- I mean not every grandmother has a race track and playground in their
backyard and a reading loft inside their house. She shared her love of baking
(and eating the sweet treats), family, education, and volunteer work with many
of her grandchildren. 

Louise will
be remembered by those she left behind in many different ways. Those who know
her best described her as a teacher, a nurturer, precise, clean, supporter,
casseroles, jumbo hotdogs, lollipops, a sister, a volunteer, a foster parent, a
crafter, Tupperware, a Christian, crochet, prayer shawls, an advocate, Beanie
Babies, Boyd’s Bears, Christmas cookies, holidays, and an advocate. But above
all else, Louise was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great grandmother.
She will be dearly missed by those who loved her.

Survivors
include her children Cindy Younger of Wichita, Dave Younger (Kelly) of Oakley,
Chris Hobbs (Greg) of Hays, Darryl Younger of Hays, and Doug Younger (Kelly) of
Auburn, four siblings Ruth Rider-ImMasche (Don) of Emporia, Keith Walburn
(Becky) of Maryville, MO, Ken Walburn of Emporia, and John Walburn (Sharon) of
Lawrence, her grandchildren Keaton Younger (Katie), Kamri Younger, Karson
Younger, KT Younger, Deacon Younger (Kelsey), Kirby Younger, Macy Younger
(Robert), Dustin Hobbs (Megan), Brooke Keltner (Stu), Summer Demel (Dylan), and
Austin Sloyer (Lauren), her great grandchildren Taylor Garner (Derrik), Tyson,
Brooklyn, Cam, Landry, Owen, and Beau Younger, Halle, Shae and Miles Keltner,
Lindsay and Landyn Demel, Hudson Sloyer, Benjamin, Oliver, and Louis Delgado,
and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was
preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jug, and a brother LeRoy Walburn.

Duane Daniel Falley age 62, of Victoria, Kansas, died
Saturday, February14, 2026,
on his farm at Melvern, Kansas in Osage
County, where he and his wife, Linda planned to retire.

&nbsp;He was born
February 22, 1963, in Quinter, Kansas, to Warren D. and Patricia Rose (Younger)
Falley. He married Lynda (Howard) on July 31, 1999, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria, Kansas. The couple
would share over 26 years of loving marriage.

He received
a Lucky High School diploma and graduated from Manhattan Area Technical
College. Duane and Linda moved to Victoria, KS in 1998.

Duane worked as a welder for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years before
retiring. He loved being outside and was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. He
also had a passion for gardening. He will be remembered for being a hard worker
and very loyal.

Duane also was a huge sports fan, often watching the Kansas City Chiefs and
Kansas State University football games. He also frequented NASCAR events, and
he was overjoyed when he met Dale Earnhardt Sr. Duane was also a fan of Dale
Earnhardt Jr.&nbsp; Most of all, Duane had a heart of gold and was protective
of his loved ones, especially his grandkids.&nbsp;&nbsp; 

During his life he belonged to both Hays and Lyndon Lions Clubs, a member of
the Knights of Columbus, and a member of The Basilica of Saint Fidelis,
Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Lynda Falley; one step daughter, Shelley Kimball of
Holden, MO; one sister, Diane Overton; one niece, Nicole Ferrell; six
grandsons, Hunter McCullough and Lance McCullough of Manhattan, KS; Dylan Kimball,
Lane Kimball, Ethan Kimball, and Tristan Kimball of Richmond, KS; and a great
grandchild, Macey Jude McCullough.

He was preceded in death by twin sons, Daniel and Samuel Falley; his parents,
Warren and Patricia (Younger) Falley; and his grandparents, Michael and Mary
Ann (Augustine) Younger;
and Daniel and Dorothy (Wilcox) Falley; and in-laws, Patrick and Janet
(Edwards) Howard.

Duane Daniel Falley, 62

Dan Collins, 84, fixed his
final fence on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, as he left us to go home to be with
his Lord and Savior.

Born in 1942 to Frank and Lois
Collins, Dan grew up in rural Plainville, Kansas, where farm life taught him
the value of hard work — and, as an only child, play often meant driving at the
age of five. He worked many jobs growing up and often told the story of helping
lay the floor in the local post office.

In 1964, Dan met the love of
his life, Linda. After a four-month courtship, they were married on Mother’s
Day, beginning a devoted partnership that would shape the rest of his life.

Dan was busy throughout his
life — teaching high school in Bird City and later in Plainville, driving a
school bus, serving as a youth group leader, and as an active member of First
Southern Baptist Church. He was also a mechanic, farmer, rancher, and state
representative. But no matter how busy life became, his family and his cows
always came first.

Family was important to Dan,
and how fortunate his children and grandchildren were to grow, play, and work
alongside him. He will be deeply missed. After all, he was the G.O.A.T.

Dan is survived by his family:
Jim Collins; Terri Collins; Justin and Mary Collins; Joel and Lisa Collins; and
Casey and Brian Arnold. Grandchildren: Jessica Collins, Jade Moore, Kassie
Binning, Sabrina Collins, Connor Collins, Jake Arnold, John Arnold, Heidi
Rankin, Emily Barger, Michael Rankin, Zoey Rankin, and Sean Guffey; 15
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by
his parents; his wife, Linda; and his son, John Collins.

A funeral service will be held
Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in
Plainville, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Plainville Cemetery. Visitation

Dan Collins, 84

Richard Lee Henry,
age 90, of Hill City, Kansas, died February 17, 2026, surrounded by his family
in the home he loved. He was born in Rural Graham County near Bow Creek to
Vernon and Hazel (Fredde) Henry. He was the last child born in a sod house in
Graham County. His childhood was spent surrounded by four sisters and one
brother.&nbsp; 

Following his
educational years began in a country school, he attended and graduated from
Hill City High School.&nbsp; Richard enjoyed playing football and basketball
and was quite good at both. Richard always worked hard. He took a job of
&nbsp;roofing houses before and after high school. He married Bonita Robinson
from Trego County. The couple had three children and&nbsp; later divorced.

Richard moved
to Colorado and then Montana where he got into car sales. However, even as a
kid, Richard was a rockhound always into rock hunting and collecting. In
Montana and Wyoming, digging for rocks became a passion. From then on, he spent
his life doing what he loved as a successful rock man. His business was the
Jayhawk Rock Shop. The rocks he gathered were polished and made into many
lovely pieces of jewelry. Later he married Peggy Sue Denney. The two of them
traveled to many rock shows all over the United States. Each year they spent
winters among the rock and gem fanatics in Quartzsite, Arizona. He was well
known as “Dick", “Jayhawk" or “Rock Man". 

While coming down&nbsp; mountain switchbacks in Montana, Richard experienced a
lifesaving Divine Intervention from God.&nbsp; He became a follower of Christ
and his Faith in Christ defined his life. Faith was everything to him and he
had a steadfast peace in his heart that came from the hope of the Gospel. 

Richard was immensely loved by his children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.Was always fun to be around
and had a unique sense of humor until the very end. He even began enjoying his
cats! 

Preceding him in
death were his parents; siblings: Roger Henry and Betty Mauck; and his
daughter, Sandra Koerperich. Left to carry on his legacy of love for Christ and
Family are his children: Brenda Estes of Hill City and Ryan Henry of Palm
Springs, California; sisters: Marilyn Grigsby of Texas, Doris (Vic) Wagoner of
Edmond, Lois Zelenka of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren

Born
on October 7, 1943, in Damar, Kansas, Doug Berland passed away peacefully on
February 11, 2026, in Florence, Arizona, at the age of 82.



Doug was the son of Blanche and Alverize Berland. He grew up in Damar and
graduated from Damar High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in
Education from Fort Hays State University.



Doug's life was marked by a deep appreciation for nature and a zest for outdoor
adventure. He found joy in camping, boating, golfing, and playing pickleball.
Summers were spent amid the scenic beauty of Chateau Chaparral in Buena Vista,
Colorado, while winters brought him to the warmth of Florence, Arizona. These
seasonal retreats reflected his love for the outdoors and his desire to share
those experiences with friends and loved ones.



Doug was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus in both Florence and
Damar. His faith and community involvement were important parts of his life.



He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine, whom he married in May 1992; his
daughter Beth Brown (Brian); son Bradley (Nikki); five stepchildren: Gwyn Marie
Schmidtberger, Aaron Schmidtberger (Victoria), Kandra Schmidtberger, Russ
Schmidtberger, and Ryan Schmidtberger (Angela); fifteen grandchildren; and ten
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Paul, Vince, and
Bryan; and sisters Roberta, Carolyn, and Debbie.



Doug was preceded in death by his parents Blanche and Alverize Berland; his
daughter Belinda; and his brother Harlan.



Over the years, Doug owned and operated a custom harvesting business that
stretched from Canada to Texas, later devoted himself to education as both a
teacher and bus driver, and built a rental property business. Whether in the
fields, the classroom, or at home, Doug's life was defined not only by what he
did, but by how he showed up for the people he loved. He carried a strong work
ethic and a steady commitment to providing for and supporting his family - a
devotion that remained steadfast even through the profound loss of his daughter
Belinda. The final 34 years of Doug's life were spent in marriage to Lorraine,
building a shared life marked by companionship, faith, travel, and seasonal
traditions in Colorado and Arizona.



A rosary will precede the Memorial Service at 9:00 a.m., followed by the
Memorial Mass on March 7, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Assumption of
the Blessed Virgin Mary, 221 E. 8th Street, Florence, Arizona 85132. 

Doug's
ashes will be laid to rest in a Mass and burial service on May 2, 2026 at 10:00
am at St. Joseph's Church, 107 Oak Street, Damar, Kansas 67632.

Richard Lee “Dick” Ramsey, 82, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026.

Dick was born July 12, 1943 to Mark and Caroline (Ludeke) Ramsey in
Holdrege, Nebraska.

He attended Agra High School, Kearney St. College and Brown-Mackie
College, SMU Graduate for Banking School.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Liz” Zoller, his children;
Jeffrey Ramsey (Jill) and Stacey Cleary (Jim), grandchildren, Hannah, Emily,
Grant and two great grandchildren, and brother, Mark Ramsey.

Cremation was chosen and private services will be at a later date.
Inurnment will take place at the Ashrock Cemetery, Woodston, Kansas.

 </figure>Richard Lee “Dick” Ramsey, 82, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026.Dick was born July 12, 1943 to Mark and Caroline (Ludeke) Ramsey in
Holdrege, Nebraska.He attended Agra High School, Kearney St. College and Brown-Mackie
College, SMU Graduate for Banking School.Dick was preceded in death by his parents.He is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Liz” Zoller, his children;
Jeffrey Ramsey (Jill) and Stacey Cleary (Jim), grandchildren, Hannah, Emily,
Grant and two great grandchildren, and brother, Mark Ramsey.Cremation was chosen and private services will be at a later date.
Inurnment will take place at the Ashrock Cemetery, Woodston, Kansas.Memorials may be made to Good Sheperd Home Care and Hospice or
