Norton resident, Gordon Dean Husted, passed away on Feb. 19, 2025, at the Graham County Hospital in Hill City at the age of 87. He was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Sheridan County, Kansas, the son of Franklin and Margaret (Montgomery) Husted.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his bonus brother Archie Hughes and his brother-in-law Steve Kosovich.

Survivors include his wife Anna of Norton; his children: Cynthia Wright of Almena, Robert (Sandy) of Norton, Randall (Brenda) of Almena and Charles (Kari) of Norton; his sister, Marian Kosovich of Junction City; his sister-in-law, Donna Hughes of Dallas, Texas, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Graham County Hospital, Dr. Luke Handy and staff and Dawson Place for the amazing care Dean received.

Cremation was chosen. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Patricia Kay (Atkisson) Johnson, 72, passed away on Feb. 14, 2025, in Kansas City. She was born Dec. 27, 1952, in Stockton, Kansas, to Robert Elmer and Darlene (Cahail) Atkisson and raised by Elmer and Gladys Atkisson. Pat attended grade school and high school in Stockton, graduating in 1970.

In January of 1971, Pat married Larry “Joe” Johnson and to this union were born two children, Jeffery Joe “JJ” and Marisa Marie. For their first few years of marriage, they lived in both Goodland and Great Bend. In the spring of 1981, the family moved to Hill City and purchased the Hill City Body Shop where Pat was the office bookkeeper until they sold the business. Always a community and church participant, after their retirement, Pat volunteered her time working tirelessly at the United Methodist Church thrift store known as Second Chances. Never one to have idle hands, Pat was still busy even when relaxing, you could find her crocheting, especially afghans or reading a book.

Being devoted to her Faith, she loved her church families in both Hill City and Hays. Of course, Pat rarely missed any of her grandchildren’s sporting events or activities and loved talking about their accomplishments. On most days, one could find her out walking. Bowling was an&nbsp;activity she so enjoyed.

Pat and Joe enjoyed fishing and camping trips with friends and family. Traveling to various National Parks were the highlights of vacations. You could also find them at street rod car shows, always admiring other cars while showing their classics cars, especially the Mustangs.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Darlene Atkisson and grandparents, Elmer and Gladys Atkisson; her husband Joe; sisters-in-law Bonnie McClelland and Anne Johnson, and brother-in-law Glenn Jones.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Joseph “JJ” (Traci) of Plainville and Marisa Johnson and (Armando) of Hays; two grandchildren: Brady (Chelsea) of Portland, Oregon, and Jolyn of Plainville; her brother Bob (Kathy) Atkisson of Stockton; her sisters Susan (Larry) Bedore&nbsp;of Phillipsburg and Barbara Morris of Johnson; brothers-in-law Loren Johnson, Buzz (Mary Lou) Johnson and sister-in-law Lee Jones; many nieces and nephews along with dear friends.

Funeral service for Pat will be held Feb. 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hays, Kansas.

Darcy
(Peak) Rodger, age 49, of Hays, Kansas passed away February 15, 2025 in Hays.
She was born July 6, 1975 in South Carolina daughter of Don and Gaylene (Duntz)
Loyd. Her family resided in Kirwin, Kansas where she lived during her childhood
years where she was raised in a loving home with her parents and siblings.&nbsp;

Darcy graduated from Agra High School in Agra, Kansas. Shortly after graduation
she moved to Hays to further her education in nursing. It was there she met
Alan Rodger and the two of them instantly fell in love and started their
31-year path through life. Through trials and tribulations, good times and bad
their love for one another never wavered. 



She received her CNA license and instantly pursued her passion of caring for
the elderly. She worked at several different nursing homes throughout her
career providing care and love to all she met. All were truly blessed to have
such a caring person to see after them. 



She then moved her attention to becoming a homemaker providing care, and a home
filled with love for her two children. While at home she also continued to
provide home health for the elderly. She loved gardening, her dogs, but mostly
giving of herself to others. 



Darcy was preceded in death by her mother, Gaylene Loyd.

She is survived by her husband, Alan Rodger of Hays; her father, Don Loyd of
Kirwin, Kansas; 
a son, Connor Rodger of Hays; a daughter, Grace Rodger of Hays; stepdaughter,
Alexis Rodger of Salina; stepson, Braydan Rodger of Wichita; three sisters,
Sheryl Cundiff of Stockton, Melissa Buxton of Norcatur, and Lacie Loyd of
Kirwin; two brothers, Justin Bohl of Mineral Wells, TX and Brian Winters of
Hays. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very
much.



The family would also like to give their eternal gratitude to Suzanne Bohl and
Janetta Richardson for their loving and compassionate care for Darcy at the
time she needed them the most.

 The family takes comfort in knowing she is now
with God. Darcy was loved by all and will be truly Missed.



There will be a private family celebration of life service at a later date.

Darcy (Peak) Rodger

Thomas (Tom) E. Casey, 75, of Hays, Kansas, passed away
peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on February 17, 2025 just five
days shy of his 76th birthday. He was born on February 22, 1949 and
was raised on a farm northwest of Natoma, Kansas, where he developed a strong
work ethic, his love of God, and his sharp wit. 

Tom graduated from Natoma High School as Valedictorian of his
class and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Hackerott, on December 27,
1969. He continued his education at Fort Hays State University with a degree in
Business Administration. His professional career spanned several companies,
including First National Bank of Natoma, National Supply, Red Tiger and
Frontier Oil, and thirty-four years as manager of Express Well Service and
Supply. He had a passion for sales and truly cared for his customers and
employees.&nbsp; He was an advocate for the
oil industry, speaking both locally and in Washington, D.C. to raise awareness
of safety standards and regulations. He was both an officer and a member of
Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association and Association of Energy Service
Companies. 

Throughout his life, Tom continued to support and work on the
family farm, alongside his father and his son. He always said “God gave us the
land, we have to take care of it”.&nbsp; He
loved his Catholic faith and was a third degree member of the Knights of
Columbus and Marked Men for Christ, eucharistic minister, catechism teacher,
and lector.&nbsp; He never gave up his pursuit
in strengthening his relationship with our Lord. 

Tom was a loyal Kansas State University fan.&nbsp; For many years, he spent Saturdays in the
fall treating family and friends to Wildcat football games as a season ticket
holder. Most recently, he loved watching his grandson wear Wildcat purple as
#97 on his big screen TV. Tom loved being a “Papa” to all ten of his
grandchildren and drove many, many miles to attend their events. 

Tom is survived by his mother, Doris Casey, his loving wife,
Mary (Hackerott) Casey; his children, Amy (Paul) Matlack, Spencer (Michelle)
Casey, Kim (Frank) Musalek, and Robyn (Brandon) Crichton; as well as his ten
beloved grandchildren: Laura Casey, Nate Matlack, Hailey (Garret) Rounsley,
Nick Matlack, Abbey Musalek, Ryan Casey, Ella Musalek, Lexi Casey, Luke
Musalek, and Colin Crichton. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald M. Casey.

Tom’s legacy will live on through his grandchildren by all he
taught them through his living and dying. He will be deeply missed by all who
had the privilege of knowing him. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday,
February, 22, 2025, Tom’s 76th birthday, at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church with Fr. Fred Gatschet officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Michael the
Archangel Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be
from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Friday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Saturday, all
at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A

Thomas (Tom) E. Casey

Sharon Sue McLaughlin, 69, of Zurich, Kansas, passed away
on February 15, 2025, at HaysMed in Hays, Kansas. She was born on July 13,
1955, to Delwin and Velma (Meitler) Mendenhall at Plainville Rural Hospital in
Plainville, Kansas. She married Rick McLaughlin on October 21, 1978, at the
United Methodist Church in Plainville.

Sharon grew up in Zurich and graduated from Palco High
School in 1973. She dedicated 26 years of her life as a bookkeeper at Mr. K's
and spent another 14 years as a secretary at World Pest Control, where she was
a valued colleague and friend to many.

Sharon had a deep passion for life and always put others
first. She loved to cook, and her world-famous macaroni and cheese will be
remembered by all who had the privilege of enjoying it. Sharon also had a love
for music, particularly classic rock, and as a talented pianist, she generously
shared her musical gifts with family and friends. 

Playing cards with her loved ones was one of Sharon’s
favorite pastimes, and there was nothing she cherished more than spending quality
time with her family. She took great pride in her sons and grandchildren and could
always be found cheering them on at their sporting events, exuding her
trademark enthusiasm. 

Sharon’s playful spirit was one of her most defining
qualities - she was a prankster with a great sense of humor who brought
laughter to all who knew her. In addition to her mischievous side, Sharon was
also the ultimate organizer, ensuring that everything ran smoothly, and
everyone was taken care of.

Sharon’s presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of
laughter, love, and joy will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

sons, Chad (Aimee) McLaughlin of Zurich, J.T. (June) McLaughlin of Abilene, KS;

Alan Kaiser was born on July 4, 1994. He departed this earth on January 31,

Ty Alan Kaiser

Edgar M. Deines passed peacefully on February 11, 2025, at
age 95 from complications due to dementia. Edgar was born March 31, 1929, in
WaKeeney, Kansas, to Benjamin and Pauline (Stieben) Deines. He was the last
living sibling of eleven brothers and sisters: Raymond, Elmer, LaVerne, John,
Carroll, Lillian, LaVera, Wilma, Betty, and Charlotte.

Edgar was a lifelong resident of WaKeeney. He left home as a
high school junior and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in December 1948, much to
the disbelief of his mother. He proudly served four years during the Korean War
and was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During
his service years, he was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas;
Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois; Clark AFB in the Philippines; and served with
the 6th Troop Carrier Squadron in Tachikawa, Japan. While in Japan, he
completed his high school education.

After his military service, he returned to WaKeeney, began
his career in the retail clothing business, and married the love of his life,
Rosetta Jane Rohn, on August 3, 1953—a marriage that lasted 71 years. They were
blessed with two children, Lance and Jana. In 1970, Edgar and Rosetta purchased
the former Hillman’s clothing store and began Deines Clothing, a men’s and
boys’ clothing store that they operated for 23 years before retiring and
selling the store in 1993. It was during Edgar’s many years in retail clothing
that he coined the phrase and said often until the end of his life: “When you
look your best, you do your best!”

Edgar is survived by his wife, Rosetta; his son, Lance
(Janine) Deines of Olathe, KS; his daughter, Jana (Bryce) Abbott of Wichita,
KS; four grandchildren: Mallory (Sam) Arends and Spencer Deines of Olathe, KS;
Logan (Sydnea) Abbott of Wichita, KS; Reid Abbott of Atlanta, GA; and three
great-grandchildren, Elliott, Calvin, and Martin Arends, all of Olathe, KS. He
is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary (LaVerne) Deines of WaKeeney;
brothers-in-law, Marvin Rohn of Oakley, Robert Rohn of Wichita, and James
(Kathy) Rohn of Avon Lake, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the medical care and kindness
shown to Edgar by Dr. Gordon Lang, Dr. Paulo De Andrade, and the staff of Trego
County Lemke Memorial Hospital and Long-Term Care. The family also thanks
Pastor Jon Anderson for his prayers and visits and the staff of Hospice
Services, Inc. of Northwest Kansas.

Visitation with family will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home,

Dennis Lee Albrecht, age 82, of Russell, Kansas, passed away
Friday, February 14, 2025, at his home.&nbsp; Dennis was born May 7, 1942, at
his home in Paradise, Kansas to Edward and Meta (Paulsen) Albrecht.&nbsp;
Dennis grew up in the Paradise area and graduated from Paradise High School in
1960.&nbsp; He was married to his high school sweetheart, and the love of his
life Donna (Schmidtberger) on July 7, 1963, in Paradise, Kansas.&nbsp; They
made their home in Russell after marriage.&nbsp; The union was blessed with two
daughters, Debra and Tamera.

Dennis attended trade school for a short time after
graduating high school to become a mechanic but decided to join the work force
instead.&nbsp; He worked for Mack-Welling Lumber Company and Harry Hibschman
(Chief Industries), both of Russell.&nbsp; He also volunteered for the Russell
Volunteer Fire Department.&nbsp; Dennis eventually became a self-employed
carpenter for many years until he went to work for the Street Department at the
City of Russell in 1987.&nbsp; He retired from there in 2005.&nbsp; 

Family was important to Dennis who enjoyed attending his
kids and grandkids’ sporting events.&nbsp; Dennis and Donna were also avid
motorcycle riders and took many trips on their Goldwing during their younger
years. Dennis was very interested in the mountain man culture and history and
was a founding member of the Russell Muzzle Loaders Club.&nbsp; He attended
every black powder rendezvous he could get to.&nbsp; He often just went to
socialize and most of the time, didn’t even shoot his gun.&nbsp; He also taught
his grandsons to shoot black powder and was very proud of them.&nbsp; Dennis
and Donna also traveled on many Vosh trips to Panama delivering eyeglasses to
the needy.

He is survived by two daughters Debra Morris (Case), and
Tamera Krause (Richard) both of Russell, four grandchildren, Coady Morris (KC)
and Kale Morris (Elizabeth) both of Russell and Nathan Krause (Melissa) of
Wichita, and Ryan Krause of Manhattan, and three great grandchildren, Noah
&nbsp;&amp; Benjamin Morris, and Wyatt Krause.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by
his wife Donna, his parents, and three brothers, Donald, John, and Gary
Albrecht.

Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held at 11:00 AM,
Friday, February 21, 2025 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.&nbsp; A
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, at the Mt Hermon Cemetery in

Ervin “Sunny” Herman, age 90, of Ellis, Kansas passed away on
Friday, February 14th 2025 at Marion, Kansas. Sunny was born July 6, 1934, on
the family farmstead in Trego County, Kansas to Nick and Anna (Lang) Herman.
Sunny did not move far from home and lived in Ellis County for most of his
life. He married Rae Mona Groff but later divorced.

Sunny never met a stranger. He loved to polka dance and play
games, especially pinochle. In his younger days he was an expert roller skater.
He loved to travel, especially when it involved visiting family. He loved
fixing things, from toasters to tractors, and designing things that increased
efficiency and saved time. Many a competitive baseball game was held at “The
Farm” with extended family. He also enjoyed giving rides in his tractor or
combine to anyone who never experienced life on a farm.

Sunny was a member of the Ellis Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. In
his working career, he was always a lifelong farmer first and an oilfield man
second. He began his oilfield life in his early 20’s and retired in his late
70’s from farming. He always had a project going in his machine shed, which
most were completed but some will never be. One of his joys was spending time
with family and friends and particularly when family would come out to the farm
to visit and shoot firearms.

Surviving him are his brother Leroy Herman and wife Kay of Denver
and children Rose Davidson and husband Greg, Mark Herman and wife Cheryl, and
Michelle Herman and husband Michael. Additionally, he leaves behind
grandchildren Valerie Reich and great grandchild Alexis; Melanie Parmenter and
husband Mike and great grandchildren Lacey, Marcus, Roxy; Sarah Davidson;
Rachel Meehan and husband Stephen and great grandchildren Teddy, Molly,
Maxwell; Amy Vaughan and husband Jordan and great grandchildren Skylar, Jason,
Ronan; Jenny Williamson and husband Zach; Benjamin Herman; and Olivia Herman.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his sons David and Timothy; parents
Nick and Anna Herman; brothers Theodore, Clarence, Louis, and Lawrence; sisters
Sr. Annice, Lauraine, Lydia, Stella, Bernice, and Rita Mae; and great
grandchild Caspian Vaughan.

Mass of Christian Burial will
be Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 703

Ervin 'Sunny' Herman

Phillipsburg
Resident, Rodger Wells passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the Phillips
County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 77.&nbsp; 

Rodger
Wells was born March 13, 1947 in Phillipsburg, KS the son of Carl Wells and
Ella (Weinman) Wells.&nbsp; Rodger grew up on
a farm north of Stuttgart, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp; He went
to Stuttgart Elementary School as a child.&nbsp;
Rodger then attended and graduated from Prairie View High School in
Prairie View, KS where he met and fell in love with his future wife Lorraine DeBoer.
&nbsp;&nbsp;Rodger attended Hutchinson Junior
College where he received his associate degree. Rodger and Lorraine were united
in marriage at the Prairie View Reformed Church on July 15, 1967.&nbsp; &nbsp;He
served in the Kansas National Guard and was honorably discharged.&nbsp; 

Rodger and
Lorraine have 3 sons; Dan, Scott, and Jim.&nbsp;
Rodger had no greater joy in his life than watching his boys grow
up.&nbsp; They often went hunting, fishing,
and camping together.&nbsp; Rodger and
Lorraine greatly enjoyed watching their sons and eventually their grandchildren
play sports often traveling many miles for games and tournaments.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

After
marriage to Lorraine, they bought and moved to their farm north of
Phillipsburg.&nbsp; Rodger had a strong
passion for growing crops and livestock.&nbsp;
Rodger loved harvesting and hauling the grain to the local
elevators.&nbsp; He spent many long hours and
sleepless nights during calving season to ensure the baby calves would survive
the cold winter weather.&nbsp; Rodger had a
lot of pride in his eyes when he watched the baby calves run around on a warm
day.&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Rodger
then discovered the excitement of searching and drilling for oil.&nbsp; He often invested in oil wells and then
eventually started Pioneer Resources, an oil company that drilled for oil and
operated many leases.&nbsp; Everyone knew you
could ask Rodger what the price of oil or cattle was each day as he was seen often
checking the prices on his cell phone.&nbsp;
He met many great people and made many great friends in the oil patch
and at his local coffee spot. 

Rodger is
survived by his wife, Lorraine of the home; son Dan Wells and wife Jill of
Hays, KS; Scott Wells and wife Michaela of Phillipsburg; and Jim Wells also of
Phillipsburg.&nbsp; Rodger has 7
grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends that he
also considered family.&nbsp; 

He was
preceded in death by his parents. 

Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church in Stuttgart, KS with Pastor Kathy Whitney officiating. &nbsp;The services will be live streamed on the
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.&nbsp;
Burial will be at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery near
Stuttgart.&nbsp; 

Rodger will lie in state Monday, February 17 from noon until
9 p.m. and Tuesday, February 18 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve
Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, KS.

Resident, Rodger Wells passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the Phillips
County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 77.&nbsp; Rodger
Wells was born March 13, 1947 in Phillipsburg, KS the son of Carl Wells and
Ella (Weinman) Wells.&nbsp; Rodger grew up on
a farm north of Stuttgart, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp; He went
to Stuttgart Elementary School as a child.&nbsp;
Rodger then attended and graduated from Prairie View High School in
Prairie View, KS where he met and fell in love with his future wife Lorraine DeBoer.
&nbsp;&nbsp;Rodger attended Hutchinson Junior
College where he received his associate degree. Rodger and Lorraine were united
in marriage at the Prairie View Reformed Church on July 15, 1967.&nbsp; &nbsp;He
served in the Kansas National Guard and was honorably discharged.&nbsp; Rodger and
Lorraine have 3 sons; Dan, Scott, and Jim.&nbsp;
Rodger had no greater joy in his life than watching his boys grow
up.&nbsp; They often went hunting, fishing,
and camping together.&nbsp; Rodger and
Lorraine greatly enjoyed watching their sons and eventually their grandchildren
play sports often traveling many miles for games and tournaments.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;After
marriage to Lorraine, they bought and moved to their farm north of
Phillipsburg.&nbsp; Rodger had a strong
passion for growing crops and livestock.&nbsp;
Rodger loved harvesting and hauling the grain to the local
elevators.&nbsp; He spent many long hours and
sleepless nights during calving season to ensure the baby calves would survive
the cold winter weather.&nbsp; Rodger had a
lot of pride in his eyes when he watched the baby calves run around on a warm
day.&nbsp;&nbsp; Rodger
then discovered the excitement of searching and drilling for oil.&nbsp; He often invested in oil wells and then
eventually started Pioneer Resources, an oil company that drilled for oil and
operated many leases.&nbsp; Everyone knew you
could ask Rodger what the price of oil or cattle was each day as he was seen often
checking the prices on his cell phone.&nbsp;
He met many great people and made many great friends in the oil patch
and at his local coffee spot. Rodger is
survived by his wife, Lorraine of the home; son Dan Wells and wife Jill of
Hays, KS; Scott Wells and wife Michaela of Phillipsburg; and Jim Wells also of
Phillipsburg.&nbsp; Rodger has 7
grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends that he
also considered family.&nbsp; He was
preceded in death by his parents. Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church in Stuttgart, KS with Pastor Kathy Whitney officiating. &nbsp;The services will be live streamed on the
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.&nbsp;
Burial will be at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery near
Stuttgart.&nbsp; Rodger will lie in state Monday, February 17 from noon until
9 p.m. and Tuesday, February 18 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve
Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, KS.

Lavila Elizabeth Meyer,&nbsp;age 79,
former Flasher, North Dakota resident passed away peacefully Friday, February
14, 2025, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born October 27, 1945, in Mandan, ND to Anton &amp; Isabel (Brilz)
Unser.&nbsp; She married Herman E. Meyer at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mandan
on April 24, 1964.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on March 30, 2022.

&nbsp;Lavila and her husband were ranchers outside of Flasher, North Dakota, on the
Diamond Lazy M Ranch raising sheep and cattle until their move to Via Christi
Village in 2020.

She attended schools in Mandan, ND and graduated from Mandan Senior High School
in 1963.

Lavila was active with the North Dakota Cattlewomen's Association, North Dakota
Cow Belles,&nbsp;Rodeo Secretary, and the American Legion Auxiliary.&nbsp; Plus
many numerous groups and activities.&nbsp; She was an avid bowler, and was
always there for her children's games and activities. She was also known to
always have food for anyone who stopped by.&nbsp; Lavila was a wonderful
cook.

Lavila is survived by her Children, Shelly Lippert and husband Tom, Hays,
KS; Christie Scholl and husband, Ken. Peyton, CO; six grandchildren, Briony
(Justin) Janisse; Tyler (Brittney) Patzner; Karna (Brandon) Prime; Trina (Matt)
Nipe; Travis (Kayla) Patzner; Taylor Patzner; &nbsp;nine great grandchildren,
Landon Janisse; Brynn Janisse; Kennedy Patzner; Lillian Prime; Corbin Prime;
Kendric Nipe; Hazel Nipe; Abigail Nipe; Oliver Patzner; her four bonus
grandchildren, Michelle Lippert; Chelsea (John) Moore; Cameron (Kelly) Lippert;
her eight bonus great grandchildren, her sister, Darlene Fleck; her
sister-in-law, Maryn Unser; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law on the

Lavila Elizabeth Meyer

Jacqui Richmeier, 63, passed away January 24, 202,&nbsp; in the comfort
of her home in Bogue, Kansas surrounded by her family. Jacqui was born July 16,
1961 in Phillipsburg, Kansas to Helen Wilson. She attended school in Logan and
received her G.E.D. before completing coursework in human growth and
development, accounting and computer science from Colby Community College
Outreach and subsequently attaining her licensure for childcare.

February 23, 1980, Jacqui married Monty Richmeier in Hill City. July 24,
2007 the couple joyfully welcomed their beautiful daughter, Michelle.

In addition to proudly working with Graham County families as a daycare
provider, Jacqui held several retail positions in the community, she was a
Graham County Fair Board member, and served as a paraprofessional at DSNWK and
postal clerk at the USPS in Hill City.

Jacqui was passionate about photography, fishing, baking, crafts,
cooking, sewing, gardening, plants, the ocean, the mountains and all animals
large and small. She loved camping, being in nature and occasionally enjoying a
frosty bottle or two of Coors Light. Most of all, she loved people. And, of
course, her absolute favorites were her beloveds: Monty and Michelle. Anyone
who knew Jacqui well understood that her greatest wish in life was to become a
mother–-and she never stopped being grateful for the daughter God brought into
their lives. She was a spiritual, free-spirited soul who showed her love of
living through making people laugh, nurturing any child as her own, planning
celebrations for others and helping people in need. She will be deeply missed by
all those she held close.

She was preceded in death by her mother Helen Wilson; grandparents, Roy
and Edna Wilson; uncle and aunt Howard and Thelma Morgan, aunt Wilma Harmon;
brother John Ginther; cousin R.D. Harmon; and many members of her animal
family.

She is survived
by her husband, Monty Richmeier; daughter, Michelle Richmeier; sister Sherida
Warner and brother-in-law &nbsp;of Grand
Junction, Colorado, “son” Michael Richmeier of Las Vegas, Nevada; “daughter”
Bridget Deenihan of Nashville, Tennessee (both of whom Jacqui and Monty helped
raise), and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the community for
their generous support during Jacqui’s journey. They also would like to thank
the medical community of Hill City, Hays, and Kearney, Nebraska, including the
doctors, nurses, ambulatory and emergency staff, and the angels who dedicate
their lives to Hospice Care.

Her celebration
of life will be held Sunday,&nbsp; February 23, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bogue
United Methodist Church. A visitation from 2 to 3 will begin at the church before
the service.&nbsp; Jacqui would have liked for
people to attend with light hearts and wearing their favorite pair of blue
jeans–or whatever feels most comfortable. Memorials to the family for medical
and funeral expenses. Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City is in charge of the
arrangements.

Sister Mary Rose Meis, CSA, baptized Shirley Ann, died
peacefully February 11, 2025, at Nazareth Center, Fond du Lac, WI.

&nbsp;Shirley was born November 15, 1937, in Hays, KS, the
oldest of the eight children of Servillian (Bill) and Irene Weigel Meis. The
Sisters of St. Agnes were her teachers during her first two years in elementary
school and again while attending Girls Catholic High School in Hays, KS. After
her high school graduation in 1955, she chose to enter St. Agnes Convent,
joined by her younger sister, Mary Agnes, now known as Sister Marise Meis, CSA.
Shirley made her first profession of vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St.
Agnes as Sister Mary Rose on August 15, 1958, in Fond du Lac, WI. 

&nbsp;Sister Mary Rose was a generous and devoted woman of
service, ever present and responsive to those in need. She spent her life as an
educator and serving in leadership roles for her CSA community.&nbsp; She earned her BS in Education in 1962 from
Marian College, Fond du Lac, WI, and her MA in Elementary Administration in
1974 from Loras College, Dubuque, IA. She enhanced these degrees with ongoing
educational and theological courses throughout her years in ministry. 

&nbsp;Sister was an elementary school teacher and principal
in parish schools in WI and IN from 1959 to 1986.&nbsp; She took a pause from her educational
ministry in 1986 to serve as a Regional Coordinator for her CSA community,
supporting the personal, professional, communal, and spiritual needs of her
sisters. Upon the completion of her term in 1990, Sister Mary Rose accepted the
position as principal of St. Mary’s School in Jackson, MS, serving the needs of
the African American children and their families for eight years. 

&nbsp;After a year of sabbatical in 1999, Sister Mary Rose
accepted roles of service for her community: Local Coordinator at Nazareth
Court and Center, the CSA retirement center (2000-2009); CSA Motherhouse
Administrator (2010-2019).

&nbsp;Sister retired from these congregational
responsibilities in 2019. She remained a familiar face in the local Fond du Lac
community attending many justice and peace events. She was a key person in the
Clean Your Closet for Cantera sales that raised funds for the ministry of the
sisters in Nicaragua. Sister Mary Rose spent countless hours volunteering with
Stone Soup, Ebony Vision, United for Diversity, the Senior Center, the Fond du
Lac Center for Spirituality and Healing, Agnesian HealthCare Grief Relief, ASTOP,
the Simple Blessings Gift Store operated by St. Francis Home and CSA sponsored
activities. She was a faithful supporter of Marian University assisting with
many of their special events.&nbsp; She also
truly enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society. Her struggle with dementia
and subsequent declining health led her to become a resident at Nazareth Court
and Center in February 2024. There she received loving care until the time of
her death. 

&nbsp;Preceding Sister Mary Rose in death were her parents
and her sisters, Yvonne Rodriguez, and Geraldine Henning.

&nbsp;Sister is survived by her sisters, Sister Marise Meis,
CSA, Katherine (Jeff) Plank, Christine Hadley; her brothers, Father Peter Meis,
OFM Cap., Michael Meis; her brother-in-law, Richard Henning; her nieces and
nephews and their families, and the Sisters of St. Agnes with whom she lived,
prayed, and ministered.

&nbsp;All services for Sister Mary Rose will be held on
Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

&nbsp;Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. —11:00 a.m. and
12:00 —1:30 p.m. at Nazareth Court and Center, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac,
WI.

&nbsp;A Prayer Service in honor of Sister Mary Rose will be
held at 11:00 a.m. in Nazareth Center Chapel, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac,
WI.

&nbsp;The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered at
2:00 p.m. in St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, WI, with
Father Carl Diederichs presiding.

beloved sister, Carol Sue Stallings, of Hoxie, Kansas. Carol Sue passed away at

Carol Sue
was born the first daughter of Harold and Goldie Selbe on August 27, 1940. Goldie
and Harold raised Carol Sue, along with her sister Kathleen, in Hoxie, and Carol
Sue spent her childhood with her parents, sister, and grandmother, Lauretta
Edith Cooper, who lovingly cared for the girls while their parents farmed the
land. The farm was a constant love in Carol Sue’s life as a young girl, and it remained
her center later in her adult life.

After
graduating from Sheridan Community High School, Carol Sue attended Asbury
School of Nursing in Salina, Kansas. Carol Sue knew as early as second grade
that she wanted to be a nurse, and told stories of going across the street to
Dr. John’s office with her father, as over the years he battled chronic
illnesses. She pursued that dream and graduated with her nursing degree in 1961.


While
attending Asbury, Carol Sue met Charles Stallings, a young man from North
Carolina who was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base. They married after her
graduation from nursing school and moved to Charles’ home in North Carolina
where their daughter Polly Ann was born. After five years, Carol Sue and
Charles decided to return home to the farm,
where they spent the following years working the land alongside Harold and
Goldie, and where Carol Sue continued her love of nursing. She served and cared
for others at the hospitals in Hoxie and Colby until her retirement. Her care
of others, however, did not end after retirement, and she continued to care for
her parents, her husband, and her daughter in the following years.

Carol and
Charles suffered hardships in their lives, especially as their health declined,
but their greatest heartache was the loss of their beloved daughter, Polly, who
died in 2014 at the age of 50 from cancer. Charles passed away in 2015, within
months of Polly’s death. After their passing, Carol Sue eventually moved into
town, where she lived the last few years of her life.

Carol Sue
lived her life with grit and determination. She would not quit. Her endurance,
her strength, and her spirit were an example to her family of courage and
perseverance. She met life head on, no matter the pain and struggle. That
struggle is over now. She is finally at home with her beloved daughter and
husband. We say goodbye with sorrow, knowing how deeply we will miss her, but
we also say it with profound gratitude for a life well-lived.

We are
grateful also for all of those friends who shared their lives with her, stood
by her, cared for her, and who loved her.&nbsp;
As you loved her, she loved you in return.

Carol Sue Stallings

Robert Ronald Powell, 87, of Vian, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at
his home on January 31, 2025.

Born on February 27, 1937, in Dimmitt, Texas, Robert was the son of
William Dewey and Leah Levina (Alldridge) Powell. He married Phyllis Lee Thanisch,
and together they had four children: Robert L., William Dallas, Leigh Ann, and
Leila Gaye. While they were alive, they remained connected through their
children.

On August 19, 1989, Robert married the love of his life, Barbara
Ferguson. They shared 28 wonderful years together until her passing on July 24,
2017.

Robert was drafted in 1960. He proudly served in the US Army Signal Corp
for 2 years in France and Korea.

Robert dedicated much of his career to the cable industry, serving as
the manager of the cable system in Norton, Kansas, for several years before
becoming the Vice President of Operations at Karlin Communications Inc. in
Great Bend. He took pride in his work and was well-respected in the industry
before retiring.

A true jack of all trades, Robert had an incredible ability to fix
almost anything—whether home repairs, mechanics, electrical work, or even
baking in the kitchen. He was a selfless and compassionate man, always ready to
lend a hand to anyone in need. His strong sense of justice and kindness made
him steadfastly advocate for others.

Robert was also a dedicated Boy Scout leader for many years, sharing his
love of nature with his children and the young men in his troop.

In retirement, he found joy in caring for his loved ones, making quilts,
gardening, creating art, studying genealogy, and deepening his faith through
Bible study.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, William Dewey
Jr., Merton, and Clifford; a sister Norma Joyce Hutchinson; his beloved wife,
Barbara Powell; his beloved daughter, Leila Gaye; his former wife, Phyllis
Leigh Powell; and several nieces, nephews, and a great-grandchild.

He is survived by his grandson, Tony Skidmore, of the home; his
children, Robert L. (Rita) Powell of Farmington, NM; William Dallas (Jen)
Powell of Lincoln, NE; and Leigh Ann (Jonathan) McCottry of Hays, KS; as well
as stepchildren Judith Lynn, Robert James Lafoon, and Joyce Marie Priesman.

Robert’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Rudy (Lavonne)
Gallegos of Farmington, NM; Ray (Melissa) Powell, Carlsbad, NM; Brooke (Arthur)

Robert Ronald Powell

Adolph J. Schmidt, 92, Hays, passed away on Monday, February
10, 2025. 

He was born in Catharine, KS on April 8, 1932, to Adolph and
Anna (Staab) Schmidt. He was a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph’s Military Academy
and part of the last graduating class of SJMA Junior College in 1952. On May
21, 1960, he married DeAnn Leiker at St. Francis Church in Munjor, KS. He is
survived by his wife of 64 years. 

He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War as a
Field First Sergeant at Ft. Riley, KS. He was Deputy Ellis County Treasurer,
then Ellis County Treasurer. Adolph worked for Central Kansas Power
Company/Midwest Energy as a Purchasing Manager for 35 years. He was a Sacristan
at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, assisted with funerals, served at 6:45 mass
for 28 years, and was a Eucharistic Minister for 28 years. He was a member of
the American Legion Post 173 for 70 years(!), was a volunteer for 22 years at
Hays Medical Center, and was a Knights of Columbus member, St. Mary’s
Council.&nbsp; Adolph loved playing golf,
going to coffee with friends, and watching KU, the Royals, and the Chiefs play.
He cherished his time with his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife DeAnn of Hays, his son, Andy and
wife Marie Schmidt of Olathe, KS, daughter, Joylene and husband John Kindel of
Shawnee, KS, five grandchildren, Daniel and Kelsey Kindel of Maryville, TN,
Meghan and Luke Smrt of Greenville, SC, Sam Schmidt of Kansas City, MO, Zoe and
Cole Hutchins of Overland Park, KS, and Sophie Schmidt of Lawrence, KS, two
great grandsons, Henry Fitz and William Finn Kindel of Maryville, TN, one

Christopher Mark 'Chris' Stielow, 55, of Paradise, Kansas,
died on Thursday, February 06, 2025, at his home in Paradise.

Chris was born on
July 30, 1969, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Kenneth L. and Patricia
(Comingdeer) Stielow.&nbsp; He grew up in Concordia, Kansas until he was 5
years old.&nbsp; In 1975, he and the family moved to the family farm south of
Paradise, Kansas, he was very blessed to be able to live and grow up close to
his grandparents.&nbsp; He attended Bickerdyke Elementary, Ruppenthal Middle
School and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1990.&nbsp; He
was a longtime member of the Otterbein Methodist Church in Russell,
Kansas.&nbsp; At church he enjoyed participating in Sunday School, youth group,
Christmas programs, helping with Kids Klub and playing his guitar in worship
services and he loved Jesus!&nbsp; He was very active with the Russell Rough
Riders participating in basketball skills, bowling, track, shotput and Special
Olympic events.&nbsp; He also played on the Solomon Valley Larks basketball
team from Plainville for several years until his heart surgery.&nbsp; He was so
proud of all the medals he won!&nbsp; 

He enjoyed playing
his guitar after taking guitar lessons from Charlotte Shaffer for many
years.&nbsp; He liked dancing to music, listening to 50’s and 60’s music, the
Beach Boys and his gospel music CD’s.&nbsp; He also loved Elvis’ music and was
thrilled when he visited Graceland!&nbsp; He liked playing games on his Switch,
Putt-Putt Golf, dressing up not just on Halloween but anytime.&nbsp; He wrote
poetry, drawings, coloring, watching Bob Ross, Touched by an Angel on TV, Star
Wars movies and sharing his love for life with family and friends.&nbsp; He had
fun being the older brother and loved reminding Stephanie of that.&nbsp; He
loved Christmas so every Wednesday he played Christmas music all day long, so
we had Christmas every week.&nbsp; Loving the Kansas City Royals, he went to
several games and one of the highlights of his life was getting to meet George
Brett.&nbsp; He liked going to Kansas State football and basketball games and
watching his nephews play sports.&nbsp; He truly enjoyed packing shoeboxes for
Operation Christmas Child, going several times to the Denver distribution
center.&nbsp; Chris was very creative, and he entered several of his drawings
and things he made from boxes in the ARC Division at the Russell County Fair,
winning several purple, blue and Reserved Champion ribbons.&nbsp; He also
collected Snoopy and Peanut characters, light houses, weird pens and anything
Elvis.&nbsp; Most of all he enjoyed life and spending time with his family,
working on the family farm, driving his Gator, playing frisbee with Josey and
taking care of his horses.

Surviving family
includes his parents Ken and Pat Stielow of Paradise, Kansas; and sister
Stephanie Dickerson and husband David of Paradise, Kansas; nephews, Grady
Dickerson, Ethan Dickerson and Jayce Dickerson, aunts, uncles, cousins and lots
of friends.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his grandparents, 3 beloved
aunts, an uncle and a cousin.

A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at 10:30 AM,
Friday, February 14, 2024, at the Otterbein Global Methodist Church in Russell,
Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation
will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, at the mortuary with family greeting
guests from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday evening.&nbsp; 

Memorial has been
established with the Russell Rough Riders or Otterbein Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Putt-Putt Golf, dressing up not just on Halloween but anytime.&nbsp; He wrote
poetry, drawings, coloring, watching Bob Ross, Touched by an Angel on TV, Star
Wars movies and sharing his love for life with family and friends.&nbsp; He had
fun being the older brother and loved reminding Stephanie of that.&nbsp; He
loved Christmas so every Wednesday he played Christmas music all day long, so
we had Christmas every week.&nbsp; Loving the Kansas City Royals, he went to
several games and one of the highlights of his life was getting to meet George
Brett.&nbsp; He liked going to Kansas State football and basketball games and
watching his nephews play sports.&nbsp; He truly enjoyed packing shoeboxes for
Operation Christmas Child, going several times to the Denver distribution
center.&nbsp; Chris was very creative, and he entered several of his drawings
and things he made from boxes in the ARC Division at the Russell County Fair,
winning several purple, blue and Reserved Champion ribbons.&nbsp; He also
collected Snoopy and Peanut characters, light houses, weird pens and anything
Elvis.&nbsp; Most of all he enjoyed life and spending time with his family,
working on the family farm, driving his Gator, playing frisbee with Josey and
taking care of his horses.Surviving family
includes his parents Ken and Pat Stielow of Paradise, Kansas; and sister
Stephanie Dickerson and husband David of Paradise, Kansas; nephews, Grady
Dickerson, Ethan Dickerson and Jayce Dickerson, aunts, uncles, cousins and lots
of friends.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his grandparents, 3 beloved
aunts, an uncle and a cousin.A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at 10:30 AM,
Friday, February 14, 2024, at the Otterbein Global Methodist Church in Russell,
Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation
will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, at the mortuary with family greeting
guests from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday evening.&nbsp; Memorial has been
established with the Russell Rough Riders or Otterbein Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Christopher Mark 'Chris' Stielow

M. Mardelle Kenyon, 96, Bison, Kansas, passed away Sunday,
February 9, 2025, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Mardelle was born November
9, 1928, in Marshall, Colorado, the daughter of Fredrick Ernest and Lela Ida
(Epler) Callihan.&nbsp; She was a resident of Rush
County, Kansas, since 1966, moving there from Holcomb, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and X-ray technician
before her retirement.

She was a member of the
United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and JOY Club, all of Bison,
Kansas.

On October 29, 1950,
she married Bruce Harlan Kenyon at Broadway Methodist Church, Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; He preceded her in death May 8, 1997.

Survivors
include:&nbsp; four sons, Alan Kenyon
(Ronnell), Larned, Kansas, Roger Kenyon (Linda), Otis, Kansas, Warren Kenyon
(Shirley), Lucas, Kansas, and Mark Kenyon (Jodi), Augusta, Kansas; 12
grandchildren, Alan Kenyon (Kanoco), Eric Kenyon (Bree), Sean Kenyon (Kara),
Ann Kenyon, (Robert Hendrix), Will Kenyon (Aimee), Kara Heller, Holly Kenyon, Tim
Stude (Farah), Randy Stude (Mary), Christi Staab, Amanda Adams (Justin), and
Brett Kenyon (Kristin); 25 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Jon Callihan; and two sisters, Sherrie
Alverson, and Beverly Carlson.

Honoring Mardelle’s
wishes, the family has chosen cremation.

A memorial service
will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or
plants, the family requests memorials to the United Methodist Church, Bison,
Kansas.

Lawrence 'Larry' Rome, 68, Hays, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at HaysMed
following a very recent diagnosis of kidney cancer.&nbsp; 

He was born
on May 15, 1956, in Hays to Albertina (Rupp) and Clarence Rome. He grew up in
Hays and graduated from Thomas More Prep in 1974.&nbsp; On July 21, 1984, Larry married Kathy Greif,
and together they celebrated 40 years of marriage last summer.&nbsp; Their lives were enriched by two children,
Josh and Nicole.&nbsp; 

Larry
dedicated 36 years of his career to Wal-Mart, where he was known for his strong
work ethic and friendly sense of humor. He rarely missed a day of work and took
great pride in his job, forming lasting friendships with his coworkers. He
retired in January 2021.

his daughter, Nicole (Zach Harper) of Columbus, Ohio; and his three sisters,
Mary Ann Frank and Diane Rome of Wichita, and Marie Davis of Baltimore,
Maryland. He was
preceded in death by his father, Clarence Rome; his mother, Albertina Rome; and
a brother, Clarence Jr., who died as an infant. Mass of
Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, February 14, 2025 at St.
Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards, Deacon Steve Urban,
and Deacon Adam Urban officiating.&nbsp;
Burial will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on
Thursday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel
Funeral Home.&nbsp; A vigil service and rosary
will be at 6:30 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.&nbsp; In honor of
Larry’s love for houseplants and the abundance he nurtured, the family requests
that, in lieu of flowers or plants, memorial contributions be made to the
Humane Society of the High Plains or to the Ellis County Historical Society, in
