EDWARDS COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 3p.m. Thursday in Edward County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2020 Jeep Cherokee driven by Sara Garza, 34, Hale, Texas, was eastbound on U.S. 50 just east of the Kansas 19/U.S. 50 Junction.
The driver attempted to pass an eastbound 2000 Freightliner semi driven by David Borntrager, 67, Haven. The Jeep collided head-on with a westbound 2007 Chevy Silverado driven by Joseph Manuel Marquez, 17, Lewis. After impact the Jeep rotated counter clockwise and also struck the semi
EMS transported Garza to Hays Med where she was pronounced deceased. EMS transported Marquez to the Edwards County Hospital. Borntrager was not injured. Marquez was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
