
Kathryn Ann Meysman passed away on December 26, 2020, at her home in
Atwood. She was born on January 3, 1949, in Atwood, KS, to LaVoe and
Elaine (Leinwetter) Fikan.
Kathy attended Lone Prairie School District #226 for grades one and two,
then went to Atwood Grade School. She graduated from Atwood Community
High School in 1967 where she played in the band, was in mixed chorus,
advanced chorus and girls glee club. She was an honor student and loved
to read. Kathy was a Red Cross swim instructor at the Atwood Swimming
Pool, where she also coached the boys swim team.
Kathy was a member of the Atwood Methodist Church, where she sang in the
high school choir. She was also a member of Girl Scouts. After
graduation she attended the University of Kansas. Kathy then moved to
the Denver area where she worked for a construction business as office
manager and later for other businesses.
In 2009 Kathy moved back to Atwood to care for her mother. She continued
to work, doing income tax preparation for individuals and working
part-time at Schnee’s Hometown Center and the Atwood Country Club until
2020. Kathy was an avid Broncos fan and made chili for all of the fans
watching the game at the Country Club.
Kathy was a soft-touch for homeless cats and dogs. She cared for many animals throughout her life.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, in 1994, and her sister Connis, in 2009.
She leaves to mourn her passing her mother, many Fikan and Leinwetter
cousins, step-son Troy Gray and family, niece Jennifer Gulley and
family, special friend Brandon and many other friends.
A Memorial Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 2,
2021, at the Atwood United Methodist Church, with inurnment in Fairview
Cemetery, Atwood. Memorials are suggested to the church, Rawlins County
Health Center or the Atwood City Pool and may be sent in care of
