Floyd Thomas McKie Jr.

Floyd Thomas McKie Jr., 81, passed away on October 9, 2020, at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas.

Floyd was born on January 19, 1939, to Floyd McKie, Sr. and Beula Mae (Shinn) McKie at their family farmhouse outside Edmond, Kansas. Floyd graduated from Edmond High School in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Broomfield, on February 15, 1958, at the Edmond Christian Church. They moved to Norton where Floyd worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 43 years. He worked on the Road Crew, Bridge Crew, and retired in 2000, as the KDOT District Superintendent.

Over the years Floyd enjoyed playing pool, snooker, golf and cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed travel, taking his family boating, camping, snow & water skiing, and attending his kids' sporting events, including helping coach both of his sons' little league baseball teams. Woodworking was one of Floyd's hobbies. He would tinker in his garage making special creations such as quilt racks, shelves, and even a baby cradle that has been used by his grandkids and great grandkids! Floyd was a member of Norton First Christian Church and also an active member of the Fraternal order of Eagles Aerie #3288. He served as the Treasurer as well as helping organize and work Sunday night Bingo for many years.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Maxine Nelson, Ila Jean Schooler, and Thelma Armstrong. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; their children, Sheree Milnes, Randall McKie (Lisa,) Jeffrey McKie (Nanet,) Angela Bott (Joe;) six grandchildren, Adam McKie (Nicole,) Tanner Bott (Molly,) Austin McKie, Morgan Witte (Michael,) Hailee McKie and James McKie; four great-grandchildren, Owen Witte, Eden Witte, Noah McKie, and Olivia Witte, one sister, Nelda Laskey (Chuck) and many nieces and nephews. Floyd was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle whose fun-loving spirit will live on in each of us!

FUNERAL SERVICE – Thursday, October 15, 2020 – 1:30 p.m.

PLACE – Enfield Funeral Home – 215 W. Main – Norton, KS

INTERMENT – Edmond Cemetery – Edmond, KS

VISITATION – Wednesday, October 4, 2020 – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
