Both the Hays High and TMP-Marian boys golf teams finished in the top six after the first day of their respective state tournaments on Tuesday and both advanced to Wednesday's second round.
The Indians shot a 316 and are in fifth place at the Tallgrass Golf Club in Wichita. Hays is 16 shots back of first place Kapaun Mt. Carmel. Dalton Schmidtberger continued his hot play with a 2-over-par 73 which has him part of a four-way tie for third and just two shots behind Goddard's Cohen Museousky who was the leader after day one.
The Monarchs sit in fourth-place at Class 2A at the Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield. TMP shot a 338 which was 28 strokes behind first place Sacred Heart and 14 behind third place Syracuse. Chase Drennon shot a 6-over-par 78 and was part of a three-way tie for fifth and seven shots back of the lead which was held by Humboldt's Connor Newman who fired a 1-under-par 71.
Plainville’s Easton Detter shot an 85 and qualified for Wednesday's second round. The Cardinals Owen Brewster shot a 90 and did not advance. None of the Trego golfers advanced to Wednesday's second round.
