GOODLAND – The TMP-Marian baseball team ran their winning streak to eight games with a sweep in Goodland. The Monarchs pulled away late and win the opener 11-4 then take game two 11-1 in five innings. TMP is now 10-2 on the season and are not scheduled to play again until April 19 when they host Abilene.
Game 1: TMP-Marian 11, Goodland 6 The Monarchs broke open a one-run game by scoring three in the fifth, a run in the sixth then four in the seventh.
Braxton Basgall opened the game with a double and scored on a Carson Liles groundout. Kendall Walker scored on a passed ball to push the Monarchs up 2-1 in the second. Walker scored on a Connor Breit groundout with two outs in the top of the fourth to give the Monarchs the lead for good.
Leading 3-2, Basgall and Caden Dinkel both walked to open the fifth. Liles then singled to right driving in a run. After back-to-back strikeouts, Adler Brown singled which scored two and pushed the lead to 6-2.
The Monarchs added another run in the sixth on an error. Joseph Mindrup drove in a run in the seventh on a groundout, Dinkel singled to left which scored two, another run scored on an error.
TMP was held to five hits but took advantage of six Cowboy errors to score seven unearned runs.
Logan Baalmann allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and six walks over 5 1/3 innings and picked up the win. Isaac Purington allowed one unearned run on three hits over the final 1 1/3 innings.
Dinkel and Liles both drove in two runs.
Game 2: TMP-Marian 11, Goodland 1 (5 innings) TMP took charge early with a six run first inning, all coming with two outs. Kendall Walker drove in the first run with a single, the second scored on an error on the same play. Adler Brown singled which scored Walker, Ty Schmeidler followed with a doubled which plated the fourth run of the inning. Joseph Mindrup closed out the scoring with a two-run triple.
Carson Liles had three of the Monarchs 15 hits, Walker, Brown, Ty Schmeidler and Mindrup all had two hits. Schmeidler had two doubles, Mindrup had a double and triple, Logan Baalmann also doubled.
Liles allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks and picked up the win. Schmeidler pitched two hitless innings of relief with four strikeouts and no walks.
