๐Ÿ€ Hot start not enough for Hays versus Kapaun

WICHITA - Hays High was in Wichita for Sub-State Championship basketball on Saturday to play the top seed in 5A West Kapaun Mt. Carmel.

Hays grabbed an early six point lead but a 17-2 Kapaun run put the Crusaders up for good winning 75-46 over Hays.

The Indians made five of their first six field goals and grabbed a 12-6 lead on their second three pointer in the first four minutes. The offense though went dry for Hays as they missed their next five field goal attempts and made just two of six free throws over the next 6:15. 

During that stretch Kapaun scored 17 points and built a 23-14 advantage. The Indians trailed by nine but gave up 9-0 run to end the first half and trailed 40-22 at halftime.

Highlights

Kapaun's offense never faltered in the second half added 35 more points over the next two quarters. Hays was never closer than 17 points in the final two quarters.

Kapaun moved on to the 5A State Tournament with a 75-46 win over the Indians.

Jack Weimer scored 10 points to lead the Indians who end their season at 13-9. Four Crusaders scored in double figures led by the 18 of Will Anciaux. Kapaun heads to the state tournament at 21-1.
