LUCAS — Midway Coop officially completed the asset purchase of the former United Ag Services facility in Lucas, on May 1, 2026, marking another important step in the cooperative’s longstanding commitment to serving producers and strengthening rural communities across north central Kansas.

Operations in Lucas under Midway Coop management began May 4, 2026, with no interruption in service during the transition.

The Lucas location will provide grain, agronomy, feed, seed, and supply services to area producers and customers. The facility includes approximately 670,000 bushels of concrete grain storage along with a high-capacity grain handling system designed to move grain quickly and efficiently - an important advantage for farmers during peak harvest periods.

“The purchase of this location represents an exciting step forward for Midway Coop,” said Craig Mans, general manager. “As a cooperative, every decision we make is guided by what’s best for our members and the communities we serve. Purchasing this location allows us to expand our footprint, strengthen our operations, and continue providing long-term value to the people who own and rely on Midway Coop.”

Located just nine miles from Midway Coop’s Luray elevator and service station, the Lucas facility is a natural geographic fit that strengthens the cooperative’s existing service network while expanding support for producers in and around the Lucas community. Midway Coop will retain current employees John Keller and Austin Beaty to continue supporting local customers and helping maintain continuity throughout the transition. Sam Princ, who has been with Midway Coop for nearly three years and is a Lucas native, will serve as branch manager for the location.

Founded in 1907 when local farmers gathered in country schoolhouses to pool their resources and strengthen their buying and selling power, Midway Coop has grown from a small operation handling coal, cream, produce, and petroleum products into a diversified cooperative serving communities across north central Kansas. While much has changed over the past 110 years, the cooperative’s purpose has not: to support local producers, strengthen rural communities, and serve as the glue that binds the region together.

Today, Midway Coop provides a full range of agricultural services including grain marketing, crop nutrients, seed and crop protection products, custom applications, premium feeds, producer financing, crop insurance, seed cleaning, and seed treatment. The cooperative also operates Mr. Tire service stations in several communities throughout the region.

Producers with questions about services at the Lucas location or other Midway Coop operations are encouraged to contact Midway Coop at 785-346-5451 or visit https://www.midwaycoop.com/ for additional information as the cooperative continues investing in the future of agriculture and rural communities across north central Kansas.
