DALLAS - Fort Hays State's Derek Woolwine has been named NCBWA NCAA Division II National Hitter of the Week, announced Thursday (Feb. 5) by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The Tiger first baseman put together a huge first week after going 10-for-12 at the plate in a three-game series against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Woolwine posted a slash line of .833/.857/1.917, racking up four doubles, three home runs, seven runs, 10 RBI and 23 total bases.
The senior homered in all three games against the Mountain Lions and turned in a trio of multi-hit games, including a pair of four-hit performances. He currently leads the Division II in doubles and total bases while ranking second in slugging percentage, third in batting average and on-base percentage and fourth in RBI and home runs.
Woolwine was also named the NCBWA Regional Hitter of the Week after earning MIAA Hitter of the Week recognition on Monday (Feb. 2).
The Tigers will be on the road again this weekend (Feb. 6-8) when they head to Arkadelphia, Ark. for the Henderson State Invitational.
