Edwin Peter 'Eddie' Bieker

Edwin Peter “Eddie” Bieker, 87, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Eddie was born January 12, 1935, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Wendelin J. and Mary M. (Munsch) Bieker.  He was a resident of La Crosse, Kansas, since 2005 moving there from Hays, Kansas.  A  1954 graduate of Hays High School, Hays, Kansas, he was a janitor at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.

Eddie loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and would do anything they asked.  He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, planting flowers that are “bee friendly”, and simply enjoying each day.

He was a United States Army veteran serving from 1955 to 1957.

On March 16, 1960, he married Althea Marie Orth at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, Antonino, Kansas.  She preceded him in death July 12, 1983.

Survivors include:  one daughter, Kathleen Bieker, La Crosse, Kansas; one step son, Bradley Billingsley, La Crosse, Kansas; one granddaughter, Lindsay Engling, Plainville, Kansas; three great grandchildren, Kastyn Antrim, Hays, Kansas, Ash Dinkel, Plainville, Kansas, and Sloan Dinkel, Plainville, Kansas; and one brother, Robert Bieker, Pueblo, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one step son, Jimmy Harrell; six brothers, Walter Bieker, George Bieker, Johnny Bieker, Wilford Bieker, Ben Bieker, and Alec Bieker; and three sisters, Irene Seitz, Maryann Jacobs, and Louise Stecklein.

The family has chosen cremation.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Hays Arc Park, Hays, Kansas, to be used for the accessible turf baseball field.
