William “Bill” Anthony Phillips, 47, passed away on November 5, 2020, at
St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas from complications of
COVID-19. He was born January 15, 1973, at the Sheridan County Hospital
in Hoxie, Kansas to Charles Robert Phillips, Sr. and Rose Marie (Becker)
Phillips.
Bill was raised in Menlo, Kansas. He attended twelve years at
Golden Plains School in Rexford and Selden, where he graduated in 1991.
He then went on to auto body school at the Vo-Tech in Goodland, Kansas.
After school, he came to work in Menlo for his father.
Bill had an avid streak for circle track racing which he loved.
After his father died in 1998, Bill worked at several different places.
He then decided to go to NASCAR Technical school in North Carolina.
Following his graduation, he moved to Garden City to work for Western
Motors, and to be with the love of his life Mandy Fine. They were
married on June 27, 2009. After their marriage, Bill adopted Mandy’s
daughter Aspen. Bill and Mandy have fostered many children over the
years and in 2019 adopted James Robert Anthony Phillips.
While working at Western Motors, Bill achieved all of his
certifications through Chevy. His hobbies include building race cars
and derby cars, and he was always working on ways to make things easier
for their daughter Aspen. Bill also loved riding motorcycles, going on
poker runs, and creating things with his vinyl printer for friends and
family.
He is survived by his wife Mandy; a daughter Aspen Phillips; son
James Phillips all of the home; his mother Rose Phillips of Colby,
Kansas; a brother Charles Phillips, Jr. and wife Sherry of Oakley,
Kansas; his mother-in-law Sandy Fine of Garden City; a nephew Noah
Phillips of Hays, Kansas; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Bill is
preceded in death by his father Charles Robert Phillips, Sr., and his
grandparents Leo & Aline Becker and Barbara Rose Phillips.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November
14, 2020 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City with
Pastor Jeff Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View
Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family
suggests memorials given to the Shriner’s Burn Center in Galveston,
Texas, or to Mandy Phillips to help with their children’s education.
