🤼 HHS' Meyers wins state championship; Zimmerman runner-up

Hays High Gavin Meyers finished out his senior season with a perfect record and collected his first career state championship at 220 pounds Saturday at the 5A state wrestling tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City.

Sophomore Harley Zimmerman joined Meyers in bringing home a medal Saturday finishing second at 132 pounds.

Meyers, who is now a three-time state placer, pinned his way to the finals on Friday and then capped off the championship with a 5-2 win over Torin Forsyth from Blue Valley Southwest to claim the state title.

Meyers finishes his senior season 40-0.

Zimmerman also had a strong run to get to the championship match. 

On Friday he won by a first-round fall, injury default and a 10-3 decision to get to the finals.

But in the finals Saturday he lost an 8-5 matchup with Hayden Mills from Blue Valley Southwest.

Zimmerman finished 44-4 and after finished fourth as a freshman he is a two-time state placer.

The Indians finished 23rd as a team with 65 points.
