🥎TMP offense leads to sweep of Plainville/Stockton

HAYS – The TMP-Marian softball teams offense combined to score 29 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Plainville/Stockton Cardinals Tuesday at the Monarchs Softball Complex in Hays.

GAME 1: TMP 13, Plainville/Stockton 3 – 5 innings
The Monarchs jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Jaci VonLintel drove in a pair of runs with a one-out double and Adison Watson and Nicole Schumacher added RBI singles to put TMP up 4-0.

TMP (13-5, 6-0 MCL) added three more runs in their half of the third inning, scoring two on Teagan Gottschalk’s first career homerun and a Brooke Koenigsman double putting TMP up 7-0.

Gottschalk plated two more, on an RBI single, in a two-run fourth inning giving TMP a 9-0 lead.

Madison Augustine retired the first seven batters she faced and only got into trouble in a three-run top of the fifth inning for Plainville.

But TMP answered right back with four in their half of the inning scoring on a Koenigsman triple, an error and a pair off sacrifice flies giving TMP the 13-3 win in five innings.

Augustine earned the win in the circle, she allowed three runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

Of the Monarchs 18 hits, nine were extra base hits.

Schumacher was 4-for-4, Koenigsman, Watson and VonLintel each drove in two runs and Gottschalk added a career-high four RBIs.

GAME 2: TMP 16, Plainville/Stockton 1 – 3 innings
The Monarchs offense carried over into game two, scoring 11 times in the third inning on their way to a 16-1 win in three innings.

Plainville (6-10, 3-5 MCL) opened the game, scoring a run in the top of the first inning, but that lead was short-lived.

Down 1-0, TMP scored a run on an error and then took the lead for good on a second error for a 2-1 lead.

In the second inning Halle Dreiling hit an inside the park homerun scoring three runs to put TMP up 5-1.

Leading 5-1, in the third inning, TMP sent 12 to the plate, scoring 11 runs on their way to a 16-1 run-rule victory.

The Monarchs first six batters of the inning reached on singles. The next two on back-to-back doubles and then a Jaci VonLintel homerun put TMP up 14-1. The final two runs of the inning scored on a pair of passed balls giving TMP the 16-1 victory.

Dreiling finished 3-for-3, with a home run and drove in four runs. VonLintel was 1-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI’s and Gottschalk was 1-for-2 with two RBI’s.

Madison Augustine improved to 11-3 as the allowed just one run on six hits with one strikeout in the victory.

TMP closes out the regular season next Tuesday at home again Great Bend.
