Correction: Ruder, Dale, Meyers named HHS outstanding athletes

*A correction was made to an error in listing the winners of the Bob Kuhn Courage Award*

Hays High School held their annual Academic and Athletic Awards Night on Monday.

Outstanding Athlete Awards are given to the most outstanding male and female athlete. The female award in named after former principal Jack Roberts who was a strong advocate of athletics for young women and did much to advance and promote this cause.

The male award is named after three Hays High students who were killed in a car accident during their sophomore year.

Jack Roberts Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year: Aleyia Ruder

Swim, Carpenter, Smith Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year: Jordan Dale, Gavin Meyers

Bob Kuhn Courage Award is awarded to a senior boy and girl who shows exceptional perseverance in overcoming adversity, involvement in community service, discipline and a caring example to others: Marissa Hoffman, Gavin Nutting

Honor Letters are awarded to those student-athletes who have lettered in three sports during this high school year: Elsie Chartier, Dalton Dale, Jordan Dale, Landri Dotts, Henry Fitzhum, Keierra Gonzales, Claire Humphrey, Hailey Klein, Carly Lang, Elijah McCullough, Addistion Otte, Aleyia Ruder, Grace Wente, Harley Zimmerman and Julie Zimmerman.

Debbie Brungardt Fan of the year Award is named in honor of a former HHS student who lived her life with a physical disability but attended nearly every event that involved the Indians. Selected by the HHS coaches, the Debbie Brungardt Fan of the Year Award is presented to an adult community fan, a student gand and a USD 489 Facilty/Staff fan of the year.
