Mary Staab, 101, Hays, died Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her home.

She was born May 3, 1920 in Walker, Kansas, the daughter of Peter P. and Catherine (Dreiling) Braun.  On September 27, 1948 she was united in marriage to Isidore “Issy” Staab at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Walker.  He preceded her in death on September 26, 1984.  Mary was a homemaker and a sales clerk at Wiesner’s Department Store from 1944 until 1950.  She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella Circle #254, earning her 50-year pin this year.  For many years she was a perpetual adorer and was a former member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.  Mary enjoyed cooking, housekeeping, and gardening.

Survivors include her son: Leon Staab of Hays and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Issy, four brothers: Aquilin, Anselm “Lefty”, Peter L., and Kilian Braun, three infant brothers: Otto, Joseph, and Gilbert Braun, and four sisters: Salome Braun, Margaret Braun, Fina Staab, and Regina Manik.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Wednesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:00 pm, all on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church basement fund or to Divine Mercy Radio.  Condolences and memories of Mary may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
