Elmer 'Jake' H. Chaney

Elmer “Jake” H. Chaney, age 82, of Sharon Springs passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020 at his home in Sharon Springs.  Jake was born on October 23, 1937 to Virgil M. and Fern D.  (Swartz) Chaney in Sharon Springs.  

Jake grew up and went to school in Weskan, after graduating high school in 1955 he married the love of his life Glenna Collins on August 17, 1958 in Weskan.  After marriage, he worked for Raymond Miller.  In 1960, they moved to Oberlin, Kansas and he began working for Pepsi Cola Company and Frito Lay.  In 1969 they moved to Goodland and he worked for Dreiling Drilling Company and Model Laundry.  In December 1970 they returned to Sharon Springs and he began working for the Wallace County Co-op, he retired as branch manager in 2000. 

Jake was a member of the Sharon Springs Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed playing cards, games, horseshoes, washers, traveling abroad in 47 states, bingo, and spending time with his family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; brothers, Charles, and Leonard; sisters, Norma Arnberger and Wilma Arnberger; and grandson, Christopher Cloe. 

Jake is survived by his wife, Glenna of Sharon Springs; children, Teri Jeanne (Brad Thompson) Cloe of Elk City, OK; Wayne Leon  of Wakeeney, KS; Lisa Ann (Mervin) Cutright of Sheridan, WY;  Theron Ray (Chris) Utica, KS and Michael Shane (Susan) of Sharon Springs, KS; Kaylene Sue McDonald, Ness City, KS; Leanne Kay Mills of Surprise, AZ; sister, Wanda (Harry) Kiester of St. Francis, KS; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many other family friends.
