
Charles A. Turner, age 70, of Elkhart, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 21,
2020, at his home. He was born March 10, 1950, in Elkhart, Kansas, the
son of Orville “Hugh” and Thelma (Roll) Turner.
Charlie was born and raised in Elkhart where he attended and played
football for Elkhart High School. After graduating High School, Charlie
attended Garden City Community College to play football. During his
time there, he received his Associates of Sports Medicine. After
leaving Garden City, Charlie moved to Lubbock, Texas to pursue his
passion at The Sunset School of Preaching. Charlie would talk about The
Bible to just about anyone who was willing to sit and listen. In 1979,
Charlie met Laurie Leigh Smith and they were married in 1980. Together
they moved to Colorado Springs to raise a family and later they
divorced. In 2008, Charlie married Amy Lamb Wooten, during this time he
and Amy were promoted to Pops and Nana, the proud grandparents of 11.
After his divorce from Amy, Charlie relocated to Elkhart, Kansas, where
he worked for the Senior Center.
Charlie is survived by sons; Charlie Turner and wife Amy of Lubbock,
Texas, Caleb Turner and wife Bethany of Littleton, Colorado, Isaac
Turner of England, Ethan Roberts of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and David
Roberts of Colorado Springs, Colorado, daughters; Jenny Rose Meadows of
Colorado Springs, Colorado, Olivia Ostrander and husband Justin of
Glenwood, Iowa, and Savannah Morgan of Colorado Springs, Colorado, one
sister; Yvonne Fields and husband Dan of Atwood, Kansas, 11
grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, brothers,
Lane Turner and Kenneth Turner; and sister, Eunice Deherrera.
Memorial service will be held Monday, July 27, 2020, at 11:00 AM at
Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart, Kansas. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be given to The Hugh (Thelma) Turner Park
Project or Charles Turner Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home,
