HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State women's basketball head coach Tony Hobson has announced that Goodland, Kan. native Talexa Weeter has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Tiger squad in the fall of 2023.
Weeter has been a dominant force on the court for the Cowgirls, averaging more than 17 points per game as a sophomore and junior. She earned KBCA All-State honors each of the last two seasons, earning a spot on the first team in 2022 as a junior after picking up second team status as a sophomore in 2021. Weeter helped the Cowgirls win their first state title in more than 40 years last season, scoring a team-high 16 points in the KSHSAA Class 3A state title game.
The 6-foot guard surpassed the 1,000-point plateau during her junior season. In addition to her first team 3A All-State selection, Weeter was a third team All-State, all-classes honoree from KSHSAACovered.com. She was a Sports in Kansas Class 3A Player of the Year finalist last year and was a first team all-conference selection.
Weeter and the Cowgirls are off to another strong start to the 2022-23 season, opening the year 4-0. Weeter is averaging 26.0 points per game so far as a senior, including a school-record 40 points in the championship game of the 34th annual Topside Tip-Off. She scored a tournament-record 92 points across the three games.
Weeter was also an all-conference performer in volleyball, surpassing 1,000 career kills while guiding the Cowgirls to the final state championship site three times. She earned first team all-league honors as a junior and senior.
