Jonathan Francis Flax

Jonathan Francis Flax, age 30, died July 17, 2020 at the Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom, Kansas. He was born on April 9, 1990 in Ransom, Kansas, the son of Denice (Ary) and Kenneth Flax.

On August 28, 2010, he married Jayme K. Salmans in Ransom. To this union two children were born, Kalihan and Kamden.

Jonathan was a 2008 graduate of Western Plains High School. He was very active in the Ransom community, serving on the school board, coaching and refereeing basketball and baseball for the Rec. Commission, as well as refereeing for various sports for the school. He volunteered to judge at many forensic meets and scholars bowl meets. Jonathan was a member of St. Aloysius Church, and he was a 3rd and 4th degree Knight of Columbus. Jonathan attended firefighting school and was a volunteer firefighter for Ransom, where he was awarded Firefighter of the Year in 2012 and 2016. Jonathan enjoyed playing the drums, and he painted beautiful landscape pictures.

Surviving Jonathan are his parents, Kenneth and Denice; his grandparents, Darrell and Judy Ary, all of Ransom; his daughter, Kalihan and his son, Kamden, both of Utica, KS; his three brothers, Kelly Flax and his partner, Kristen Shull of McCracken, Jayme Flax and Darren Flax, both of Ransom; his niece, Alyce Davis, and his nephews, Maxstyn Avritt, Ezra Davis, Silas Flax, and Rowen Flax, all of McCracken, and nephew Keegan Hall of Ness City; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Francis and Marjorie Flax.

Funeral service will be held on July 22, 2020 10:00 a.m., at St. Aloysius Church, Ransom.  Those wishing to “social distance” may watch the service at the Western Plains High School Auditorium. Rosary and Parish Vigil will be on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Viewing will be at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the services.

Memorial Contributions may be given to the Education Fund for Kali and Kamden.
