HAYS – The Hays Larks had 12 hits and drew 13 walks but stranded 21 baserunners Sunday night and lost 9-7 to the Colorado Sox at Larks Park to end their six-game win streak.

The Colorado Sox (8-9) scored four runs in the first inning and five in the fourth to go up 9-2.

The Larks (12-5) scored single runs in the fifth and sixth then three in the eighth but left the bases loaded.

Hays got their leadoff batter on base to open the bottom of the ninth but a couple of strikeouts and a groundout ended the game.

Six Larks pitchers combined to strikeout 14 Colorado Sox batters. Drew Buhr gives up seven runs, only three earned, on five hits over 3 1/3 innings and suffered the loss.

All of the Larks 12 hits were singles including four of them from Matt Cavanagh.

The Larks sit in second place in the RMBL, one-game back of the Denver Cougars.

Hays is off Monday. They host the No Co Roughnecks in a two game series on Tuesday and Wednesday. You can hear both games on KAYS (94.3-FM, 1400-AM).
