On Tuesday, April 21, at 3:37 p.m., the Ellis County Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 118 Safari Dr.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke and flames were found coming from a single-family dwelling. Fire crews made an interior attack, but were unable to extinguish the fire, as it had moved into the roof support area.

Firefighters used two fire attack lines to extinguish the fire and confine it to the building of origin. The building and other materials inside suffered extensive fire and smoke damage.

The fire was reported out at 5:26 p.m. and under control at 5:31 p.m., at which time some fire crews began being released from the scene.

Midwest Energy was contacted to shut off utilities to the building.

Fire crews remained on scene until 6:57 p.m. as fire watch, to check for any rekindles.

Nineteen firefighters from the Ellis County Fire Department (Hays, Ellis, and Victoria) responded to assist.

The Hays Fire Department also responded with Engine 1, Shift Commander 302, and Air Supply 314, staffed by seven firefighters. The Ellis County Fire Department was also assisted by the Ellis County EMS and sheriff’s deputies.
