NWS: Dangerous cold, more snow on the way to NW Kansas

Posted Jan 31, 2022 2:32 PM

The National Weather Service is warning of dangerously cold temperatures and the potential of snow this week.

After projected highs of 61 projected Monday and 44 on Tuesday, an Arctic front is expected to blow in from the north, sending the mercury plummeting. A high of just 18 degrees is projected Wednesday and Thursday, with overnight lows dropping as low as 2 below.

The wind chill Thursday morning is expected to be 15 below zero in Hays and Ellis County, and down to 20 below zero farther west.

Snow is expected to begin Tuesday night and continue into Thursday morning.

While Ellis County isn't expected to receive much snow, areas to the northwest could receive 2 to 4 inches of snow, the National Weather Service in Goodland reported.

Skies are expected to clear Thursday afternoon and remain clear through the weekend.
