DODGE CITY - The Hays High softball team ran their win streak to four straight wins, three of them over Liberal, with a sweep of the Lady Red Thursday in Dodge City.
The Indians won the first game 10-0 and 13-2 in the second game.
GAME 1: 10 HHS, Dodge 0
The Indians scored in four of five innings in the first game
of the doubleheader, and starter Jaylee Summers allowed just two hits in five
innings in a 10-0 Indians victory.
Hays’ Riley Dreher tripled to lead off the first, and Alyse Zimmerman drove her home with a triple of her own.
Brynlee Brous singled home Zimmerman, and then Lanie Becker doubled for a 3-0 Hays lead through the first half inning.
Hays added three more runs in the top of the second inning, scoring on a Zimmerman single, a Brous double, and an Adalie Kippes sacrifice fly that put Hays up 6-0.
Still leading 6-0 Hays scored a fourth inning run on a fielder’s choice making it 7-0 Indians.
They closed out the fifth scoring three times.
Avery Solida drove in the eighth run for Hays with ground out.
Brous followed with a two-run homer.
GAME 2: HHS 13, Liberal 2
The Indians scored five runs in the first and third innings,
and Riley Dreher allowed just two hits in seven shutout innings.
Hays wasted little time breaking onto the scoreboard with runs in the second inning.
HHS scored the game’s first run on a passed ball. With two down in the inning, Brooklynn Dinkel doubled home a pair of runs, and then Brynlee Brous capped off the inning with a two-run homer, putting Hays up 5-0.
Liberal scored a run in the third, cutting Hays’ lead to 5-1, but the Indians added two runs in the fifth on a Lanie Becker RBI single and a fielder’s choice.
Brous drove in a run in the sixth on a ground out, and then Hays’ offense exploded for five more runs in the seventh.
In the five-run seventh, Hays scored on a Jaycee Gibbs RBI ground out, three straight run scoring doubles by Brynlee Rupp, Alyse Zimmerman and Avery Solida putting Hays up 13-1.
Liberal added a run in the seven but Hays was too much for the Lady Red in the Indians' third straight win over Liberal.
Hays is 13-8 and is scheduled to take on Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel HS on Saturday.
